David, the shepherd boy, found himself in dark places, pursued by Saul, but he trusted God and wrote eight Psalms, including Psalms 142, 57, and 34, from the cave of Adulam. He praised his way through the pain, cried out to God, and waited on God's timing, resisting the temptation to take revenge. God was working out His purposes in David, teaching him to worship in the darkness, to wait, and to trust in His goodness.
