In 1943, the United States Air Force had one problem: weather was hampering operations. The British offered to trade their radar technology for American guns, boats, and ammunition, and the US built the first operational radar sets to be put in specially equipped B-17s. The 482nd Bomb Group, led by the 8th Air Force Pathfinders, was tasked with using radar to navigate and bomb through overcast skies, and on March 4th, 1943, they successfully reached Berlin, with 39 bombers continuing to the target despite a radio recall and bad weather.
