Jesus chose ordinary men to be his apostles, including fishermen, a tax collector, and a zealot, to demonstrate the power of God's truth and the importance of humility and dependence on Him. Similarly, in the church, deacons are called to serve as servants, following the example of Jesus, who came not to be served but to serve. The biblical qualifications for deacons emphasize the importance of character, faith, and commitment, and those who serve well in this office obtain a good standing and great boldness in the faith.
