Chet Holmgram is. Pretty busy here for OKC, leading the way with 12 points. Shea Gilgis Alexander, oh my goodness, a quiet night so far with two points. Lou Dort with nine, Tyrese Halliburton with five, Pascal Siakam with six. We'll keep you up to date on game three of the NBA Finals as the show continues on.

As I said, I'm here with you for one more hour. We have talked about a lot. over the past three. Of course, we talked about the embarrassment that is the New York Knicks. They they keep getting denied by everybody underneath the sun.

Can't talk to Quinn Snyder, can't talk to Jason Kidd, can't talk to Chris Finch. All these teams are basically saying no. And so the New York next. We'll get into that momentarily. Talked about Angel Reese and...

And Bill Belichick having to answer questions about his girlfriend again, and Deion Sanders providing an update. On his health, Thank you to our guests, Tomir Azarle, for joining us from Clutch Points to talk about some basketball. And then, of course, last hour I gave you a new top six list every single weekday. Forget that every Wednesday I bring you a new top six list. I've been doing this starting on YouTube, dating back to 2009.

Been able to bring it over to radio. It's fun. Today We looked at a bunch of cheap skate owners. Looked at a bunch of teams that that the ownership groups refuse to spend.

Okay. If you missed all the fancy audio and sounds and explanations and clips, The Odyssey app. Go back and listen. To the last hour. Here's a quick recap: if you weren't here.

Last hour. And number six, I gave you Stuart Sternberg. This man bought the Tampa Bay Rays in 2004. A couple of seasons ago, a couple of years ago, this man was sued. By his minority partners in the team for basically They said that they would he was trying to push him out.

He was hiding financial data. And so apparently they have issues with filling up the stadium, but then also in being transparent. Poor team can't even play in their home stadium right now. Tropic in the field, Hurricane Milton blew it away. And number five, I gave you the Rooney family.

Yeah, this one was a tough one. Rooney family will pay for everything in the community. They are very charitable. But when it comes to their team, they ain't paying nobody.

Okay, they will draft you. And then pay you. They are not signing no big-time free agents. They will. And steel is a old school.

God bless them. And number four on my list. I gave you Bob Nutting. This man will blame the fans for not investing into the team. And then, when the fans show up and pay for tickets, he will still not invest into the team.

And number three, I gave you Bruce Sherman. The owner of the Florida Marlins. Even Derek Jetas said, This place ain't for me. I'm leaving here. This guy's a bum.

And number two, I gave you John Fisher, the man who decided to rip the A's out of Oakland, California, now has them Hanging out in Sacramento before Vegas. And at number one on the list, we went to Cincinnati. I gave you Mike Brown. I mean, all you hear from people, people who have played. For the Bengals is really how much of a disaster that this guy is.

From having to buy food at the facility to how the train the team treats its players is. Is sharing jock straps and paying for lunch and water and and even the current contractual situations we see playing out. In Cincinnati right now, Shamar Stewart is a rookie complaining. Trey Hendrickson can't get a deal. Joe Burrow is just like, man, just pay to guys.

Yet Mike Brown Tops. the list. As a matter of fact, I want you to listen. Again, this is TJ. Who's Manzada?

He made a reference to when he first got to Cincinnati. And he's like, we gotta. Drink what? Where am I getting my Gatorade from? The Bengals didn't have water or Gatorade when you broke into the league.

What did they have? I don't even remember. We didn't have bottled water or Gatorade, and it was crazy because when we first got it, guys would be taking. Backpacks full of Gatorade home. And every day, you were like in the water boy, like the literal movie, The Water Boy Locker Room with the Bad Water.

The year before I got there, Willie Anderson was telling me. They didn't even have jock straps. They would buy, get a bunch of used jock straps, throw them in the middle of the locker room and say, here you go. Yeah, listen, man. There's certain things that you just you just can't make up.

This was a couple of years ago. TJ Huj Mazada ain't played in like more than a decade. Man, we got recent stories about how they still make them buy food at the practice facility. You ain't getting three meals a day. If you play for the Bengals, you better better bring a bag of lunch, okay?

What a shame. Eight eight eight seven ten four ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. When I say cheap owner, Who comes to your mind? I got Mike Brown.

He's the number one on the list. Go ahead, ask Trey Hendrickson. How he feels about the Bengals organization. Eight eight eight It's seven ten. For ISN, I will pick up the phone lines.

Of course, at the end of the show, we'll talk about a few things that took place this day. In sports history, we got a lot more to do before we roll out. Hey, Michael was waiting patiently over the break. Let's see if Michael is still here. Michael, you're on the Chair Our Sport Reshow.

What's up? I'm still here. I'm still here. Well, thank you. Go ahead.

I got you loud and clear. Thank you. No, I'm just, you know, back to Pittsburgh, like I understand Mike Brown is cheap, but The last great Pittsburgh. player outside of Paul's scheme. was Andrew McCutcheon.

I believe Andrew Metouchen signed the seven-year fifty six million dollar deal. I mean, if we're talking cheap, I don't know since he has what now three players. or at one hundred plus million dollar deals You're talking about since you're talking about the Reds? No, the Bengals. The Reds, I don't think the only internet.

The only.

Well, Michael. When when when you talking about cheap, It's one thing to talk about Salaries, okay? It's one thing to say this guy hasn't been paid and this guy hasn't gotten a check and that guy hasn't got. It's another thing. And we got these stupid rumors, and it's probably not stupid because we know the pirates are cheap.

When there's already thoughts and conversations as to whether or not they're going to trade Paul Skeens, even though they have him under control for another five years, that's just. That's just that's ridiculous. I think things are taken to another level. When you're a professional athlete and you show up to work, And they don't have Gatorade?

Well, they don't have water? Or you have to sh you have you you you have to share Uh just practice equipment. Or that they don't even offer you food throughout the course of the day, or they don't have a warm place for your family to stay. Like that, that is beyond cheap. That's just That's being an ad.

That that is, but I recall Kansas City, I think the year before last, their ownership group was Pretty sad in that respect, too.

Some of those things they have problems with in Kansas City.

Well, Michael, there's a difference. Yes, okay, the owner said I'm going to remodel the locker room.

Okay? The players felt that the the locker room wasn't remodeled. Please find me the correlation between the locker room and being able to feed your players throughout the the training process.

Well, did you you said something about contracts, right? And that's your main reason for Pittsburgh being on there, right? Is that they don't pay outside people. Right?

So you can use that for them, but then when I try and use it, you say that that doesn't work.

Well, I'm not saying it doesn't work. Let's try this again, Michael, okay? The Pittsburgh Pirates are on the list at number four. I don't believe That anybody top, it's called a ranking. It goes from six to one.

And in the process. I don't think anybody is worse than a team that has reportedly made players reuse jock straps and does not provide them with food. I'm not looking at one factor. I'm not looking at. I don't know what Michael's doing.

Michael, I'm not looking at one factor. Over the other. I'm not telling you that. Contracts trump this. What I'm telling you is.

Not feeding your professional athletes, making them pay for food. is one of the cheapest Possible things that you could ever do. We have plenty of organizations across the world of professional sports. You can go ahead and look at all, I don't know, 120 plus professional sports franchises across the NFL, NHL, Major League Baseball, and the NBA.

Okay, everybody, we can all talk about Who pays big contracts?

Okay, we can look at the Dodgers. We can go ahead and take a look at the New York Yankees, and then we can look at teams. that refuse to spend. Plenty of them, like the Pittsburgh Pirates. They're pathetic.

They're pitiful. Bob Nutting needs to go back to printing out newspapers. He'd probably be right out of business, okay? For all one hundred and twenty plus professional teams in the Big Four, I have never heard a story uttered about one team. But one.

that won't feed the players.

Okay, this is a combination here. Forget paying them. I can look at Jamar Chase. making 40 mil. I can look at Joe Burrow making 55 mil.

Okay, I can also look at the history of the team. And this is not a coincidence when you look at a stretch over the past 15 years. of reusing equipment? Not feeding them. Like, if you find me the other team that has those issues, of course, every team's going to have some.

Oh, Kansas City Chiefs didn't rebuild the locker room. Oh, they're real cheap. Let me know. Let me know when Patrick Mahomes shows up to the press conference and just goes, you know what, guys? They told me I'm making $500 million over the life of my contract.

They told me if I want a peanut butter and jelly sandwich after practice, they told me I gotta pay for it. That's a different level of cheat, man. That's the Bengals. They're in a category all by themselves. And it's not just about, well, this team spends a lot of teams spend money, the Bengals spend money.

But they're in a different space. Their owner is ninety years old.

Okay. His dad founded the team. And I'm pretty sure. He's very old. and very old school in his thought process.

I'm paying Jamar Chase $40 million. He needs to be happy I'm giving him that money. Payin' Joe Burrow. Joe Burrow's out here. He makin' $55 million.

He needs to be made. I'm paying that guy over there. He's making $400,000 a year. Why do I have to feed him? That's cheap.

NFL and whole is generating more than twenty billion dollars a year. Man, you treat these guys like commodities, right? I got a three-year career, I got a four-year career. Grand opening, grand closing, in and out. It's conveyor about.

I'm paying these guys enough money. If I'm investing into you, if I'm paying you, if part of the job is to go out there, and physically perpo excuse me, physically perform on the field, At minimum, Don't, and I want you in the facility. I want to make sure that you're working out, I want to protect my investment. I mean, look, you can either treat. A racehorse good and say, Hey, I got the racehorses in here.

I'm gonna treat them good, I'm gonna feed them good, I'm gonna make sure they have the best nutrition, or you can take the approach of, Man, when that horse goes down, I'm taking his ass to the glue factory. And I'm getting another one. You don't think that there's some NFL owners? You don't think that there's some owners that don't look at their teams like that? Come on now.

Hey, last hour we had a reference to Donald Sterling. This is a racist piece of trash who was referring to his plan. Oh, look at those beautiful black bodies. Look at the money that I paid. Like.

Like, like, man, like, they were back on a farm somewhere doing work for him. No, they're basketball players.

So, come on now. There are certain people Who can actually look at what they have, and it's not just sports or looking at players as commodities or assets or what they are for a league. We got people who know how to treat folks. As much as and I can't say personally because I never met the man, As much as I don't appreciate A lot of the things that Jim Dolan has done for the New York Knicks. like the stupidness right now with firing the head coach Tom Thibodeau.

And then just trying to figure out who the next coach is, not having a plan, just having rabbit ears. As much as I can give a list of twenty things, twenty-five things I don't appreciate about this dude. One thing that I can't say Is that when it comes to the players? and people who have actually played for him. They will tell you, Nick players will tell you.

that James Dolan, The Knicks are are top class, first class. The food. The travel The amenities Some of the contracts they've been giving out over the past 25 years since free agency has really exploded. I mean, Alan Houston got a contract because Dolan liked him. He got paid more money than anybody.

whatever give him. Man, I've had this conversation privately. I've had it on air. Shout outs to Quentin Richardson on ESPN right now. Quentin Richardson will tell you, yeah, when I play for the Knicks Man, we had the best food, they had the best everything.

But when it comes to the actual operations of the organization, Whoa. A little bit different. Not every owner is built the same way. And even guys who are spending could still be completely nuts out here. Completely nuts.

Like I can call James Dolan I call him crazy, I call him a bad owner. Like one thing that I'd never be able to call him. It's cheap. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you, coast to coast, on the Infinity Sports Network. eight eight eight seven ten four I S N That's 888-710-4ISN.

Game three of the NBA Finals, it continues on, and the Pacers, well. The Pacers have they have fought back. thirty four to thirty two. About three minutes have gone by here in the second quarter, 36 to 32. He'll keep you up to date on this game as it continues on.

Speaking of the New York Knicks. I told you, their owner's uh pretty nutty out here. and now you s you might be a little embarrassed. About the New York Knicks and some of their rejections. We'll talk about a lot of things that took place today in the sports world.

At the end of the show, of course, we'll talk about a bunch of things that took place this day in sports history. We have so much to do. You're locked in to the JR Sport Re Show, coast to coast, on the Infinity Sports Network. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you, coast to coast, on the Infinity Sports Network.

Eight eight eight. 710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. Hey, you want to talk about. Beautiful.

I think there's a lot of people in Indiana who might consider this to be beautiful right now. Pacers. Man, they have taken a lead here. Against the Oklahoma City Thunder, 39. It's a thirty-six.

Second quarter. Lil less than eight minutes to go here in the game. Yeah, let's see. Indiana, we know that they're capable of going on runs. I think at the home game here, let's just see if they turn things around.

Shake Yogis Alexander not having his typical here's some 30 points plus a game, only with six. Chet Holmgram with 15. and meanwhile for the Pacers. Obi Toppin, man, this guy is uh you would think he's back in college. He has six points.

Pascal Siakam has nine. Halliburton. has five. We'll keep you up to date on the game as it continues on. Obviously, everybody in Indiana Should be very proud about the Pacers and what they've been able to do right now.

Let's see. If they can walk away with a victory in a 2-1 series lead, I'm still going with the Oklahoma City Thunder. I'm going with them, and Five games, six games max, okay. It's something to be proud of. By the way, if you're a Knick fan and I mentioned this prior to the break.

If you like the New York Knicks, you probably don't have a lot to be proud of right now. No. Mm-mm. The next stink. Like, only the New York Knicks could screw up a good thing.

Well, they're not the only ones, but the New York Knicks can certainly screw up a good thing. They have the most success that they've had in 25 years. And then they just fire the head coach, the guy who helped lead them to that success. Of course, the players matter more. But you got to have somebody who's there to lead them.

I don't think anybody else could have coached this damn Knicks team. To a championship. And so ultimately, they gave Tom Thibodeau the boot. They fired him. And today and just over the past several days, the Knicks have ended up being a joke.

They have spoken to just about every team under the sun, it feels like. Hey, Botcher, who's the latest team they support? The Bulls? Yep, the Bulls declined Billy Donovan being interviewed by them. They just uh going through the less the gamut.

Billy Donovan and We heard Jason Kidd. They denied him. I don't know. If Jason Kidd wants to leave, of course they'll trade him. But then the Knicks don't have draft capital.

This is earlier today that Shams was on ESPN. And he basically said The New York Knicks are getting laughed out of the building. Teams are like, no, you can't talk to our coach. What the hell's wrong with you? As I reported last night and this morning, the Knicks made.

Permission requests over the last 24-48 hours on Chris Finch of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Emeyudoka of the Houston Rockets, and this morning, Jason Kidd of the Dallas Mavericks. All three were given swift denials. I'm told, like, these were the reactions. Teams are saying no, hanging up.

Teams are saying F no. Teams are saying, like, having the owner call and say What is good? Yeah, welcome welcome to the New York next, okay. Here, let's fire our successful coach. And not have a clear plan as to who the next guy is going to be.

Let's ask teams for their coach. I just don't know. Maybe this will work out for the New York Knicks, but based on their history, I mean, thirty years of history under Dolan. I um Yeah, I think Not. I think not.

There's been more talk about the New York Knicks and how bad they are than the NBA Finals. That's bad. Eight eight eight seven ten four I S N That's 888-710-4ISN. Let's go to Buffalo, New York. and talk to David.

David, you're on the JR Sport Reef Show. What's going on? Hey, hello. Thank you for taking my call. I just want to know your thoughts on this Angel Reef situation.

You know, it seems like the WNBA is. Going off that friction between her and Caitlin Clark and all the other. all the other things that come along with that. And I just wanted to know your thoughts on that because And I'm not necessarily a, you know, an an L S U fan, But I think that for being as good of a player as she is, they they spend more time pitting her against K. Caitlin Clark to keep the league's popularity going.

Just wanted to know your thoughts on that.

Well, thank you for calling, David. We actually talked about that earlier in the show, not specifically. I don't believe, and you talk, you correct me if you think I'm wrong, David. I I do not believe. that the NBA is is pitting Andrew Reese against Caitlin Clark.

I think what they're doing is making money, and they are certainly utilizing these two players and their rivalry, their professional rivalry that obviously dates back. It's a college. They're using it as a money maker, as they should. I mean, you think the league is exploiting that past outside of people are interested. Why not?

put it on broadcast television. I know uh Caitlin Clark was hurt. But the the couple of weeks before that, they put it on broadcast T V as they should. You think there's something wrong with that? No, I just think that it's been going on since they were in college, and it's like.

You know, it just seems intentional for whatever the reasons are. You know, I did think that Angel Reeves sometimes gets the negative. End of it. And I just think, you know, I just sometimes, and I'm not necessarily an LSU or Angel League fan. I'm just saying sometimes she's portrayed so negatively in the whole thing.

And it's like, You know, that's all I've ever seen of her. I probably heard her commercial endorsements and everything. She does okay, but Um that's the part of it that I don't you know, I'm not sure. Yeah, no, there there there's a few reasons why she's portrayed negatively. I don't think she's had or done the best job in in controlling.

The message, her message, what she wants it to be. Caitlin Clark. I I give Caitlin Clark. Plenty of credit. She doesn't she doesn't feed the monster and feed the beast.

Okay? Who's she sitting around talking to? Like nobody. Oh, she's I agree. Yeah, and can I just to be clear, I love teams, I don't hold any of this against.

Her personally, I think she's doing a great job. No, but when it comes to it, I didn't want to make animosity toward her. I do not want to be able to do it. No, but let me tell you this, David. Take it from a guy who was in the newspaper at one time for saying one thing wrong about Angel Rees' teammates, which I apologize for.

Okay. There's a and take I I've worked in media my entire life, okay? I've never had a real job ever. I've I've worked in publications and magazines and in the internet and television. I There's a way I've worked with celebrities and trying to get messaging out and what you do or don't do.

And sometimes I still even do that today to a certain degree. You have to do what you can do. You ha is this like anybody else? If somebody is going to work, Do they not have control over, to a certain degree, how they're perceived, how they're portrayed, what people think about them? Right?

That's true. You control that by what you say, what you don't say, how you carry yourself. Uh everybody is always going to have an opinion. We know that. But you have to be able to control what you can.

I couldn't tell you. anything that I've ever heard about in A a Caitlin Clark suite. Caitlin Clark doesn't have a podcast. Caitlin Clark, there's so much, and I'm not knocking Andrew Reese. Go ahead and get your money.

But when you make yourself so much of a public figure in a social media space, Like, you're gonna get punched down about it. And you mentioned her basketball. Like, okay, she can get us double-doubles, but her performance on a court isn't leading them to victories. And she has a point. She has a poor shooting percentage.

I mean, come on, she's shooting like 35, 36, 37 percent. from the field. Like that people make fun of her about that. And so my point is. You can't have it both ways.

You can't. You can't be on the red carpet and you can't be hanging out with musicians and you can't have a podcast. And then, you know, when you suck at basketball or have a bad game. You know, or the media wants to ask: hey, are you distracted? You can't have your teammates now coming to your defense.

Bottom line is, you gotta pick and choose one. And if you're gonna do both, then be prepared for the backlash. That's just the way the world works right now. I appreciate it. I appreciate you taking my call.

Appreciate your feedback. It helps me look at it from a different angle. That's kind of what I was looking at. Thank you, David. Thank you for calling from Buffalo.

Yeah, you got to. You got to control what you can control. And everything surrounding Caitlin Clark is very controlled. How she responds, what she says, what she doesn't say, what she doesn't open up. She fouls Angel Reese on a basketball foul a couple of weeks ago.

Hard foul, fouls her. She just walks away. He's like, man, get out of here. Ain't got nothing to do with me. You know, and she'll bark back.

She's a basketball player. And I give her credit. To me, it looks like she stopped some of the complaining that she did at the college level. But she just She just walked away. Angel Reese went after her.

Okay, and it was a basketball play. Be angry, but Caitlin Clark did. If Caitlin Clark was fighting back with her, now we'd have a super beef. I just think Andrew Reese, just. You gonna be great at basketball and deal with the criticism?

Or do you want to be a a social media influencer and just be famous and a basketball player on the side? And we've I I gave you an example. Liz Cambage, she left. And she was criticized for a lot of stuff.

Some people called her racist. She said, Man, I could go be a model, I could be an Instagram influencer, I could be a DJ, and she's not in no WNBA. I think she's fine. Perfectly fine. And Marco, what what do you think about what the hell I just said?

I agree with you. I think it's just the overall encompassing, everybody's a little too sensitive. They want to be able to say what they want to say. They want to do what they want to do. But anytime there's any kind of criticism, it's you're attacking me.

That's not how it works, man. And there are cases. There's always going to be extreme cases. And in Andrew Reese's case, there are people that I think have gone. too far and do and do go too far.

But it's like anything. If you have a public job, if you want to make money publicly, if you want to be an Instagram influencer and have, you know, put photos up of yourself, if you want to be on the radio, you want to be on T V, you want to be on YouTube. the minute that you are in front of a camera. you are opening yourself up for criticism. In a lot of cases, fame comes at you fast.

I don't think Angel Reese woke up and thought, oh my God, you know, I'm going to be this famous. But God bless her. She's been able to make money and take advantage of it. It's just that.

Some people, and you know, this isn't new, Marco when it comes to fame and celebrity. We can think about Predating.

Social media. When you become famous, some people, a lot of people, Aren't ready for it. And you think about right now, the fame is just in the palm of your hand. Everybody has an opinion. Being famous can eat you up, man.

100%. And it comes with a price and whether it's right or wrong, but it does. And there are, you know, to be, again, there's still consequences to your actions.

So you can't have all the good. without the bed. It just doesn't work. That doesn't make it right. But that's how you you got to be able to face that and you got to be able to come to grips with that.

So it it can't always be where everything is exactly the way you want it. That's life. That's unfortunate, but that's life. Yeah. This is exacerbated by uh I think uh cellphones.

Bacha, what are your thoughts before we hit the break, man? I just think that people who put themselves out there with the podcast and often put themselves out there in the media complaining and/or just. Acting A lot more than they have to. They can be quiet, play the games, be mad when they need to in the game, but they bring it out of it and they bring it to their online personality.

So I have no. real sympathy here to certain people when you put yourself out there. You sign these big deals, you have your own podcast and you talk on it and talk bad about other people. I'm not going to defend you when someone criticizes you back. Yeah.

Well, I well, I don't who would she talk bad about? It was just everything, but like betting pay. She was the face of the league. It was just, she wasn't, basically, was bringing down Caitlin Clark. the entire time.

Yeah, she's vague.

Well, I don't even think she's brought her down. I give you, I think there's a better example. I'm not going to sit here and tell you I've listened to a podcast. She didn't do herself any favors. And this is the league did it.

When it's her specifically, Angel Reese sat there and said, Hey, last year, you know, there's more people that people want to show up and see, but me. And I'm like, okay, this is why. It's you that that you can control. It's not necessary for you to say. Like, you're making enough money.

Why are you worried about her? Obviously, why are you even concerned about her attention? You're making good money. yourself over here and Caitlin Clark being in the league has That means she's adjusted the circumstances for every A body. And so I think people have learned that.

I think, in the case of Angel Reese, maybe they've learned that.

Sometimes you this is a learning process for them, too. You can't have your cake. And eat it too. You know, last year you want to talk about how people want to show up and see you, too. Not filling up arenas like her.

And now this year you don't want to talk about it. At least be be transparent in being clear. But it's all a part of the process. Ain't none of this easy. I hope that she's learning sooner than later.

It's the JR Sport Re Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Man, we got this NBA Finals game going on. We got a lot of baseball, so that means we got a news flash with Marco Belletti. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you, coast to coast, on the Infinity Sports Network.
