Earlier on the show, WWE superstar Cody Rhodes, ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler, coming up, actor John Turturro, and now it's Rich Eisen. Hour number three, the Rich Eisen show is on the air. We're very excited because John Turturro is in our green room. This is great news. John Turturro is about to join this program.

Yeah, eight four four two zero four. Rich is the number to dial. Jeremy Fowler. Hour two. Cody Rhodes was here in hour one.

O'Shea Jackson Jr. crashed the set. You look so confused when he well again because here's the thing I'm in the middle of my open take about everything else. I look to the side and I see him, and honestly, my first thing, my first thing I thought is he's dressed as Captain Crunch.

Okay, because I'm I'm peripherally seeing. Remember when he told us? I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I misspoke. Captain Crunch. Captain.

Okay, there is no Captain. Captain.

Okay. Remember when Shay told us Captain Crunch's real name? Like he knew his real name. Yeah, Captain Crunch. Honestly, so that's all I see peripherally while I'm you know doing that, and then I'm thinking to myself, oh, so does he want to sit with Cody?

Because I'd love to make that happen, but we don't have a second chair. We have to get a microphone. These are the things I'm thinking because. I I think as a host and a producer, I don't just show up and talk. Is essentially my message.

I weave tapestries, and I and I'm a I'm a slash like like Cody is Cody's a slash WWE superstar. There's Cordell Stewart, there's you, and then there's Cody.

So that's what happened in hour one. If you missed that, and hour two, there's our podcast version. There's our Disney Plus page. There's our ESPN page. There's also our socials, Instagram, TikTok, socials.

So check that all out to to see. How O'Shea Jackson Jr. was dressed. He does not get soggy in milk, nor do the Lakers apparently. As his point, you said I thought I was looking at Captain Crunch.

Peripherally, it's what I thought. That was a lie. He's Captain, not not an apostrophe kangaroo.

Okay, Captain. At any rate, it's a higher register Thursday, everybody. And you know what that means? We got to go higher register to believe what we're about to say. I don't know how we started this.

I think it was completely organic. I remember years ago. I can remember you do because I went higher register one time, and you went. You know, you just went higher register, and then the wheels start turning. You were like, "This should be a say." Yes, because you notice it when if you haven't noticed it.

And you're in a conversation with any other human being.

Soon, you'll go, "Uh-oh, this person doesn't really believe what they're saying." Certainly, when you're you know you're going out and your spouse says to you, "No, that looks nice." You got to change. You know what I mean? How many times? No, no, how many times have you heard that? It's a good time.

Yeah. How many times, guys? By the way, your register said that to you. No, she never goes higher register. She's just like that.

Doesn't work. She goes regular register. As a bystander, that's not good. You guys just did it better there than you do normal. Oh no!

You know that. Oh no! Bystander. No, your higher register, like example, actually benefits. Thanks, thanks for everybody.

I appreciate your higher register. And Mike, you know what? I appreciate that because you know what you are talking about. See what I mean? No, no, you are not a fraud.

Works. You are not a fraud. Go Dodgers. They lost, sir. I know.

They lost. Partners here. All right, so it's time for our weekly NFL higher register take of the week, brought to you by Sonos. Hit it. There's a change.

The Rich Eisen shows. It could be higher register take of the week.

Okay, that's also the greatest. Calliendo is Schefter. Is he just doing the the carousel of voices, and he was doing Schefter, and that's how that yeah, that that was from him here, here. In a we didn't ask him. Hey, can you do this for our drop?

No, no, no. No, we took that from an appearance. That's correct. All right, Chris. As always, you're the first up with your higher register take of the week.

Okay, I'm going to talk about tonight's game and more specifically, a player from that chair over there got a lot of slander on Monday. Oh, okay. I think people forget that AJ Brown is a 1500 yard receiver. Correct. He's a Super Bowl champion.

That's right. And when he was a young boy. Wanted to play for the New England Patriots. Oh man, yep. And here's the thing: we're going to watch tonight, and I think he's going to remind everybody how good he is.

Okay, I hope you're right.

Well done. How so? I don't know. Seven catches, 110 yards, a touchdown.

Okay. Way to call your shot. Way to call your shot. Thank you.

Okay. I know. When did you you you have any idea? Like that's the is that the floor or what do you think? I mean, yeah, yeah, sure, four.

Okay, yeah, four. Yeah, all right, let's go. T.J. Jefferson, sir. This one is always difficult.

You never know. It's not your register. It's not your default register. Yeah, you never know what's going to happen. But see, you just went higher register.

See, that's your own. You do it without without knowing. Because if I don't think about it, so then try just. Just like Bonics, let it rip, let it rip. I'm like Gotti, like Gotti.

Just stop thinking about it. See now you you turn out my mode. That's it. You can't do that. You do that all the time.

But speaking of Gotti, you know, Sunday after all the games are played, Monday the varsity plays. You know how that goes down. Then it's Monday night football, Dallas Cowboys against the Philadelphia Eagles. Yep. All right, and be honest with you guys: the winner of Monday night's Cowboys-Eagles game.

Probably won't win the division. Oh, that's a bummer. How many higher registers are are are bummers? That's sad. But you you had to go higher register because even you won't believe it.

If your Cowboys go to three and four, you're not going to come in here with your with your white board with the Cowboys all over it and your flag and my robe, your robe. Like if they win on on Monday, you won't show up on Tuesday fully dressed. I'm going to be a problem, on.

Okay. See, there you go. You don't believe what you say. That's why I had to go higher register. You know.

That's what you. But what do you play when there's the when there's the loss? Do you have that ready? That's all we hear. That's the way we roll here on the program.

All right. Here we go. Josh Allen had three hundred and thirty-four yards and two touchdowns against this defense. Joe Burrow had two hundred and seven yards and two touchdowns against this defense. Daniel Jones, sixty-six percent of completion percentage, two hundred thirty-five yards and a touchdown against this defense.

Oh my goodness! Dak Prescott. Gotti was showing up. Yeah, three hundred thirty-five yards passing and a touchdown. As a matter of fact, it's the last time Gotti looked like Gotti against this defense that just gave up three hundred six yards and four.

I said four touchdowns to Trevor Lawrence. I'm talking about the vaunted and feared Houston Texans defense. Oh, so this weekend. In his first start for the New York Football Giants, I I think that J.J. McCarthy can light up the Texans.

I mean, just the numbers that the numbers I just gave for J.J. McCarthy to try and top and join this group, the 207 yards that Joe Burrow threw against this defense in its entirety. The 235 yards Daniel Jones threw against this defense in all four quarters of action, less than the number of yards JJ McCarthy just threw in one quarter of action last week.

So I kind of think JJ McCarthy is going to show up and he's going to run it here and he's going to throw it there. And there's Malik Neighbors over there and there's Isaiah Likely over there. And let's get Cam Scadaboo out of the doghouse. I think JJ McCarthy is going to have a game. And that's my higher register.

Love the sound. Feel the system. Build your system at Sonos. dot com. All right, let's go to David in Ohio.

He wants to chime in. David, you got your higher register here. David, you got it. Yes, sir. Yes, sir.

Rich, hey, TJ and Chris, my friends I met in Pittsburgh. Yes, sir. Sir. My hey, my higher register today is the Chicago Bears are looking to put Drake dismay. And the New England Patriots into hibernation, but I think we're going to get a little ahead of ourselves.

This is still a Bears franchise that has spent more, a little more time hibernating in January than the Bears do all winter. Drake Dismay has a chance to turn Thursday night into a New England celebration, while Chicago fans are left wondering if their team is ever going to wake up and become relevant again. With that being said, I think the Patriots are going to win tonight. Thank you, David. David, did you write that out, David?

It's okay if you did. Did you write it out? Yeah, absolutely. Did it's okay? Yeah, yeah.

I and then I did. I rehearsed a little bit. Yes. One more quick thing, Rich, about the higher register. My wife at home does that a lot.

She goes higher register and. Yep, she goes. Will you stop listening to that? Oh no no no no! You can't have that.

We can't have it. Which means she doesn't mean it. If she's going higher register, thank you, David. See, David. We go.

All right, brother. Wow, even higher register. I don't like that nickname. Higher register. Taren family support can bring Steelers fans and Patriots fans together.

See what I'm saying? I don't like Drake dismay. Like, come on.

Well, I mean, he's using. He's turning phrases. He's writing copy. I get it. I get it.

I don't want to get it. He's inspired to write copy. Yeah, right. Higher Register inspired David in Ohio to say, "I want to play along, but I want to make sure he rehearsed it. Right.

He brought his A game." That's all we ask. Process, you know, and I don't kind. I don't mind it if people write stuff out. That is totally fine. Maybe I should try that.

Maybe you did. You do. You're reading off your screen. I just write the third thing down.

Okay. Okay. Are you ready for John Tutorial? Excited. Excited.

Celebrity True or False. Nick stuff. How. Absolutely opposite from Nick Totoro, will he be? That's coming up here on the Rich Eisen Show.

But before we go here, in my house, the best moments don't always happen when I'm sitting still. Maybe the games in overtime, my favorite podcast is getting a good part, or a playlist just found its groove. That's why I use Sonos. It's a whole sound system designed to let what I'm listening to get that sound following me from room to room, so I can stay with the moment as I move through the house.

Sonos, love the sound, feel the system, build yours at Sonos. dot com. The only pickpocket in New York is this man's new movie, John Turturro. When we come back, the Rich Eisen Show podcast. It's one of those films that when we were young kids, we'd see like these great ninety-minute films, and that's what this is, you know.

And it's it was a wonderful script, and it was a. Fabulous part, and you know, I had to learn some skills about what I had to do. I worked with this guy who's a magician pickpocket. He's about to say you went to pickpocketing school.

Well, I read all these books about pickpockets, which there's a whole history of them. You know, a lot of them were from broken homes and orphanages and stuff. But they had these little families, and there's great books. There's a book called Wiz Mob, which is he interviews all these pickpockets, thirties, forties, in the fifties, and they're really Like magicians, you know it's a violation, but a non-violent crime. And I work with this guy, Apollo Robbins, who's a magician, pickpocket, and he comes from a A family that there were criminals, and and he taught me a lot of things.

I mean, he his hands are sort of like a concert pianist. He can do anything with his hands. I mean he he could take my he takes my watch off every time I see him, and I I don't I don't feel it at all.

So as I'm about to say, you know, I know you're an excellent actor, and we just came out of the green room together. Should I feel for my wallet? Not right now. Not at the moment. We have to be a minute standing up there.

I had my Keys on me. Yeah. Hold on a second. It's yeah. But anyway, it's sort of a.

They're like like a dancer in a way. You, they, the whole idea is that you don't feel what they do. And sometimes you would get your wallet back. They put it in the mailbox, you know. Yeah, and the really audacious aristocratic pickpockets sometimes would work with a partner, take the money out, and sometimes put the wallet back, which that's really hard to do.

Fantastic! It's the only living pickpocket in New York already. Audiences. Return as the voice of John Turturro. This film opens in theaters in New York and Los Angeles on Friday, and is available in theaters nationwide on Friday, October thirtieth.

It's a great cast. You, Giancarlo Esposito, is in it. Steve Buscemi, just to name three, right here on the Rich Eisen Show. You play the greatest pickpocket in New York since Jalen Brunson.

So, how psyched are you, John? How great was that? I mean, I'm. I still have a lot of the afterglow, you know. It's amazing, right?

I mean, the season just tipped off right now, and it still feels as great as it was back in June. Yeah, it just seems like it happened like two weeks ago, three weeks ago. And you know, if you're a sufferer, if you're a real fan, it's it's hard. You're euphoric, but it's also unbelievable. It's hard to digest, and also the way they won with the kind of team they have.

They have a real chemistry, and three guys from. Lenova. It was, it was, really miraculous after years of. You know, heartbreak and right and loving a team that was great in nineteen sixty nine, seventy, and up to seventy three. It was it was sort of a beautiful thing that happened, and it looked like in the beginning of the again, just to go back a few months when they started playing against the Hawks, it looked like it was going to go down the tubes again.

It looked like that, you know. It looked like this, you know. They had a very up and down season, right? And then it was going to be another playoff swoon, right? And it's just still not going to happen.

And then they turned. Into a juggernaut, they turned. It's unbelievable. They made it. This goes to show you.

Sometimes you you you you have to make an adjustment, right? In in anything you do, you know, and especially in sports because it's it's so fast and under such pressure. And they made that adjustment when they made Towns the sort of the quarterback, you know, and he was yeah. They they put him at the high point, the high point, the high point, and then their defense all of a sudden just. It was like someone turned up the flame, and and they just one.

It was that one game. It was like the fourth game, and from then on, they were just. Yeah, you know, grooving in this that come back against the Cavs in Game One of that series, where it was like, okay, here we go again, here we go again, and then they started just destroying everybody, right? Pretty much up until you know the the finals against Wembenyama, and again when he pointed to his head that he was in Mitchell Robinson's head, I'm like, okay, here we go again, right?

Well, you know. They're gonna be. They're gonna have a great team, but they're also were playing against a team who everyone. You could even say they were sort of overachievers. The Knicks.

Everyone's been sort of underestimated, almost maybe except for Towns on that team. Correct, and they. You know, little by little, they would just get in to get it closer, get it closer, and of course, Brunson was struggling at the beginning of that series, but they still, you know, had him as a closer. They picked him up ninety-four feet the entire time, and so I understand why it's some, and then. Of course, because he's the fact that the Knicks have one of the best closers in the sports history, up there with Michael Jordan, is something because again, his numbers are just like that.

His numbers are. He's been a winner in high school. He was a winner in college. He's a winner, and you know, you can only put stats can only go so far. And also, the the everyone wants to to be the guard to be six six, you know, and be really athletic.

But his footwork, you know, his acumen he's he's really a special player. Screw it, let's go here now that the season's here. Yeah, repeating. How would that be? How stupid!

Like nobody. It's again. It's it's the same cycle as last year.

Well, no one's picking them. Nobody. Nobody's picking. It's just a one hit wonder. No, like they're a one hit wonder, and that's the end of that.

Right. You know, you know, my my guy across the way there is a Six a Celtic fan. Right. Chris is a Celtic fan. To your right, TJ is a Sixers fan.

Okay. Excited that LeBron is here. Right. Well, they have they have a stacked team, but that doesn't. Mean it's going to all coalesce, you know.

I mean, I think if we stay healthy, we'll be we'll be in the mix. I mean, a lot of times teams have that hangover because they went so deep into June, but we didn't have that many seven game series. You know, we really didn't. We had, you know, I guess the hangover would be appearing on Saturday Night Live, and yeah, they they were the Knicks have been everywhere. Which is kind of funny, like you are saying, like hey, it just feels like it was just yesterday.

And most of the rest of the countries, like, are you kidding me? Because we can't wait to turn the page on this. Yeah. Well, listen. Josh Hart was at every U.S.

Open match. It felt like. Oh, right.

Well, listen. I mean, why not? The Celtics. How many banners do you have? Eighteen.

Eighteen. Okay. Eighteen. You know, and that's a lot of banners. I mean, a lot.

Eleven was with Bill Russell. Sure. Three was with Bird. Yeah. So that's only a couple recently.

Yeah, but. You know, it's it was finally time that you know that we were able to. I listen, lots of people were rooting for the Knicks. The Knicks were the underdogs. They were not the.

They were super likable too. They were a fun team. They they're a fun team. Yeah, you know, and I mean, now the seventy sixers are stacked. You know, I mean, Boston will be interesting to see.

What happens with them? You know, I mean, you have Mitch too, so we will miss Mitch. I'm glad for that. I'm and also the thrill of Mitch hitting a free throw. I will miss that because I'm the only person I've ever stood up for and applauded when he was at the free throw line.

So let's go, Mitch. You can do it. You know. By the way, you sound just like your brother there.

Okay, and the fact of this here.

So if you're if okay, so honestly, like you got to hit the ball. We got to do. Oh my God! Your your fandom. Oh my God!

So if Nick's fandom of the Yankees and the way he acts is like. One thousand. Yeah. Where do you? Where?

What's your? Mine is how intense. Mine is high. I'm. I'm.

I don't. You know. I cheer for my team. You know what I mean. And Nicholas goes goes up and down and up and down.

I I I try to keep a steady. You know, solid support of of my team. Older brother. Nicholas is a he's a real. I have to give it to him.

He's. I mean, he did rip the sod. Up in 1977 from the field and brought it to our backyard and we planted the Yankee sod that he had torn out as a I said I don't know how old was he maybe 15 or 15 and we put a flag in it but it never really took the sod you know but he's he you know he yeah yeah he's you know it takes over his life you know. I mean, the Knicks—it's taken the Knicks playoff last year. Kind of took over like everybody's lives.

But but he's a true fan, and he was a basketball fan. He was a good basketball player. He was a good little basketball player. And but we used to go to games when Dave the Busher used to carry cover Rick Barry. He loved Rick Barry, and I used to torture him because because Rick because Dave the Busher sometimes would he would just shut players down.

They wouldn't be able to get the ball. Rick Barry was an amazing player, but the Busher was one of my guys. I love this. I love this sibling rivalry. The Busher.

I would. I would pound them, and I would sit up in the blue seats, and I would say, "Yeah, he can't even get the ball." By the way, that old school Madison Square Garden blue seats that's up in the top. That's where the Ranger fans used to give it to Dennis Popman. But this is a family show. He can't say what they were chanting.

Yeah, I mean, yeah, it's a whole different. Can't do that. But are you also like Nicholas? As you were. To him, where you think the where you're sitting on the couch affects the final score.

He's beyond. If you sit next to him in the game, he like puts his finger in his ear and he's like, "Don't talk to me right now." You know. And all of us have these bizarre rituals. Is he always like crazy like this? No, I think he's he always was a true fan.

You know, and I was a big Yankee fan when the Yankees, you know, we had Billy Martin and you know Chris Chambliss, and I loved Thurman Munson. You know, oh me too. That was my I loved catchers. I something about catchers, great catchers, because they they're like the quarterback of the team. Is that why you are doing a Joe Torre talk?

Because one of the reasons, okay. One of the reasons, and Joe's just a. A beautiful guy, and also Joe has spanned like the change in baseball, the change in sports with free agency, players union, players rep. You know, first strike. They didn't make a lot of money.

I mean, Joe was telling me stories that. If you went into the Pittsburgh Pirates clubhouse and you took a candy bar or a beer or gum, you'd have to write it on the blackboard and you'd have to pay for it. And they only would give you when Joe was a player. The Pirates would only give you one towel, only one. That was it.

So these guys didn't make that kind of money, no. And he played with. I mean, we have all this old footage in the documentary, and we have the All Star Game when Reggie hit the light tower, the light tower, right, the Transom, yeah, in Detroit. And the starting lineup is oh, it's Willie Mays, Hank Aaron. Joe Torre, Roberto Clemente, Johnny Bench, Willie McCovey—these are all my favorite players.

And I was like, I couldn't believe we were watching this, and he played with all these guys, and these people—they played, and he played with Bob Gibson against Bob Gibson and with Bob Gibson, and you know, they're human-sized players, most of them. You know, they are human-sized, and these guys. You know they played the whole season. They didn't get, and they were all around. I mean, Willie Mays.

He wasn't that big of a guy, you know. And he was telling me a story that Bob Gibson. They went to dinner. I don't know who brought Bob Gibson to Willie Mays' house, and Willie Mays opened the door, and Bob Gibson had glasses on. And he said, "Who's this guy?" I forget who brought Bob Gibson.

He said, "That's Bob Gibson." He goes, "You wear glasses?" He says, "He said, yeah." But he said, "But you could kill someone because when he pitched, he didn't have the glasses on." And he, I mean, he was the most intimidating. Oh yeah, pitcher. He would pitch three games in the World Series. He did, you know. And so these stories.

And Joe also told me that in those days they would talk a lot, the catcher to the hitter, like you know, where you going out for dinner, this and that, and some players. Would step out and say, "Listen, I know what you're doing. Stop it, whatever." And Willie Mays didn't. Willie Mays said, "Well, I went out to this great Italian restaurant last night, whatever." And then he said, "One time he was talking to him, and he was a huge Willie Mays fan when he was like 10 years old. Here he is playing against him, and Willie Mays hit a home run as he was talking to him, and he said, 'I'll tell you the rest of the story when I come around.'" There you go.

I mean, come on. I mean, when is this doc? When do we see this doc? We still have we still have a few more you know interviews to do, and we have so much territory to cover because Joe, you know, where these where the players are now, they wouldn't be if it wasn't for all those players, of course, who actually you know fought for free agency, right? Marvin Miller, and it was a different you know game, but some of those pitchers, I.

Just love. I mean, I was a huge Tom Seaver fan. You know, just he would just he would pitch like nine innings and and then hit a home run, and hit a home run. You know, I mean, those guys were like sort of. Artists, some of them, and and Joe is just a great person, and he's he's awesome.

I mean, and then of course the manager of a of a the last team to threepeat, which the Brewers just made sure is going to still stand. That's right. Let's go Brewers! You know, oh, you're you're rooting for the Brewers. I'm rooting for the Brewers.

Okay, I like the way they play. I like the uniforms, and I like the way they play. Yeah, the best.

So let's, if you don't mind, take a break. We'll come back and we'll we'll. Play celebrity true or false.

Okay, fine. John Turturro is here. The only living pickpocket in New York opens in theaters in New York and Los Angeles this Friday. Available in theaters nationwide on Friday, October thirtieth. Celebrity true or false with John Turturro when we come back.

The Rich Eisen Show, the podcast. All right, our radio audience has returned. John Turturro is here during the commercial break. You notice that Doctor J is right behind TJ. He was at that that that All Star game that's that's memorialized by that photograph behind TJ.

All right, we we play a game here called Celebrity True or False, where we have somebody like yourself, John, with a vast filmography and some TV shows as well. We want to know what's true and what's not, and we've got some great production value. Hit it, please. Celebrity: True or false? You can't handle the truth.

That's it. That's our production. Hopefully, you're Wolverine. All right, here we go. True or false?

John Turturro, you actually got punched a couple of times during the "Do the Right Thing" fight scene. True. Yeah, true. I got it was the the actors who were they were not so experienced. It wasn't Giancarlo and me, but no, it was yes.

I got I got I got. Mon Lawrence was hauling off on me. Are you serious? Oh yeah, I had to tell him afterwards. I said, "You guys, you can't punch me for real, man.

You're like beating me up, man." Because I was I was I was obviously we were outnumbered in the fight.

So yeah, so but. It was it was okay. It was okay. But Martin Lawrence, he he he was falling once, and I I saw him falling, so I tried to grab him, and I stuck my finger in his eye, and then he had this like eye patch, and he he was so funny afterwards. He was like, I want to, I'm like a fighter, I'm like Mike Tyson, you know, you know, he did this whole routine.

But it was yeah, it was there was a lot of people involved, and some of us were more experienced, and that's what happened. Happens and and it's happened to me in other movies too. You get you know sometimes someone gets they think they're a real fighter or stuff like that. And I did another movie where I got hit a bunch of times. I told the guys, "I listen, I." I said, you know, you're hitting me now, like you know.

I'm rolling with it, but you know, and I think the director wanted him to.

So then, I I did respond eventually. Oh, like with fisticuffs of your. No, no, I waited for the moment because we had two fights in the movie. Which film was this? Was Live and Die in L.A.

Oh, great. Who are you? Yeah, I mean, we were just. I think it was the director who was. He wanted like real stuff, and sometimes you can get really hit in a movie, and it doesn't.

Look good because it depends what the you know the angle is or whatever, and all of us got. Pushed around by the director. Is there anybody from that film that was that got some a De Toro knuckle sandwich? They got they they they got something that they yeah yeah yeah yeah. I mean I I'm like I don't do that stuff you know because if you did it in real life, you go like, hey, this is real.

This is different than that. And also, you have to repeat it, and it's your job to take care of the other person too. Yeah. Sometimes you have a director who wants to break all the. Rules, and he thinks he's inventing something new, but this is not, you know, boxing.

It's not the army. You know what I mean? That's that's different.

So, I mean, I grew up on a construction with my dad. He was a builder, so I saw I saw a lot of fights for real. You know, I mean, I I know what a real fight is. You know, there's these other guys. They they imagine they're really like tough guys.

Fantastic. What was it like on the set of Do the Right Thing? Great, but we we had a wonderful. It was obviously we had to rehearse it for a while, and everyone had to get used to each other. But it was a great group of people.

Did you know? Still really good friends with many of the people.

Well, Giancarlo Esposito is in this film with you, right? He's a wonderful guy. And so, did you know it was iconic? That's when you. I knew that it was about something that was real, and that unfortunately is still real now, right?

Different ways. And I also thought it had a lot of humor. And Spike grew up in a in an Italian neighborhood, and I grew up in the first before Nicholas was born in primarily a black neighborhood in Hollis, Queens, and that's where Stephen A. is from. Yeah, yeah, and I've told him that.

So, so we really, you know, we had a lot in common. We're three weeks apart. We have all similar references, and it was a. The people that worked on it, Ernest Dickerson, who was the DP, he had a big influence too on on that set. But it was was a real group of people, and it was.

It was was a little upsetting when we had to do the last part of the movie because we were all kind of close at that time, and but that cemented my relationship, my friendship with Spike, you know, and to this day, equally is ecstatic over the mix. Is I am. Oh yeah, he's he's the real he's the real deal. No doubt.

Next up, true or false, John Turturro, you took part in an extensive poker boot camp for Rounders. True. I i had a I had a a coach, a guy who was a real grinder, and he. You remember who it was? Took me through.

I don't remember. Real poker person was a real poker. He was a real real poker player. That's how he made his living. As a grinder, and you know, whenever you learn something like playing pool, playing poker, they see these guys who coach you.

That's their whole life. They look upon it as an angle. Like if you are a pool player, everything is angle.

So, and if you are a poker player, you are reading the room. You are reading the other. Players, you know, movements and stuff.

So it's a form of pickpocketing in some ways, and you know, it's in these rooms with no windows, lots of smoke, alcohol, and it's a it's a certain kind of milieu that you really have to like. I mean, that's. I I'd rather be outside playing. You know what I mean. I'd rather play catch than play poker.

You know what I mean, or something. Did you ever take part in a tournament or something? No. I know Ed Norton told us on this show that he played in the World Series of Poker in Vegas, and he. What he he he had a pocket nine and and he lost on like a a bigger full house than the one that he had.

You never did it. No, I didn't. I didn't. I didn't do that because I was doing something else.

So I had to do all this research while I was doing something else. But sometimes you do. You know, sometimes you you actually participate. When I was learning to pickpocket, I was stealing from people, but like in the production office on the set, but on the subways. I I was thinking, well, if I take something from someone, then I have to give it to them back.

And then if I get arrested, I got to get bailed out. I had my hands and plenty of. It's very easy because people, no one's looking. Everyone's on their phone. That's true.

Now everyone's on their phone, so you can easily. You don't know what exactly you're going to get or whatever. But I wanted to get the whole idea of pickpocketing is you you. Coming closer to a person from a social position to a personal to a very intimate, so it's like a sport because you want to approach from the side, you don't want to approach eye to eye. Yeah, sure.

You know what I mean, and so that I I definitely. You know, it depends how much time you have.

Okay, I got three more for you here before I let you go on your day.

Okay, you heard Jack's voice in our opening to "Celebrity: True or False." True or false? John Turturro, Adam Sandler used you as bait to get Jack Nicholson. He did. Ian Anger managed. He did.

He told Jack Nicholson, "I was in," and then he called me up. He said, "Listen, you know, I already told him you're in," and I had done Mister Deeds. I had a great time with Adam. I met him on Saturday. Saturday Night Live, and so I was like, I said, I didn't even like.

I don't know if I even read the script yet. I said, okay, well, let me look at it.

Now I'm like, between a rock and a hard place. Anyway, I he was a huge fan, Jack Nicholson of the first film I directed, Mac. He loved that film, and he watched it a bunch of times because my friend Michael Badalucco knew him, and he was telling me, you know, so when I Did decide to do it to help Adam out. I met Nicholson, and he was like, "Man, you know, I'm so glad you're here. You know, I knew you were going to be in the film, man." And he was like, "I said, yeah." I said, "I was, of course, it was great to meet him and stuff like that." And that's the first.

And he was a basketball player. He played basketball.

Okay. He told me he was a guard. We talked a lot about basketball. And but I, but I did that. Yes, I did.

Okay. So Adam is, you know. He's he's a good basketball player. Oh, he plays pickup anywhere. He plays anywhere.

Yeah, he's the when I I I stopped playing because they took my court away. I like to play on a wood floor. But we've played some one on one battles.

Okay, yeah, all right. That was in the past.

Now maybe he could beat me, but he couldn't then. He was a little shocked when I beat him when one on one. I was like, well, you know, I said I'm not going to let you win. I said I don't work for you, man. I've played pickup with Sandler before.

He is. Shockingly, but he's a good passer. He's a good passer, and he's a good athlete. He's a by the way, you are also, I think, the first guest in our twelve years that talked about Adam Sandler without doing an imitation of him. No, I don't imitate Adam.

Okay, all right, very good. Two more to go. He plays like the Shaq a little bit. He like backs in with his butt. I was like, "You're like the Shaq." I tell him.

I said, "But I'm like Bill Russell." I said, "I want to throw you right away." This is awesome. I got two more for you. I can't wait for the answer to this one. True or false? In the Big Lebowski, you ad libbed everything you did to the bowling ball, from cleaning it to licking it.

Most of that is true. Yes, because I was. They kept telling me I had done a character like that in a play, and they said we're going to write this other part for you. And then it seemed so small, and they said, "Well, listen, we we we we scheduled extra time because we know you'll probably come up with some crazy things." And I was doing things to kind of almost entertain my friends, like you would do. You know, in your basement or something like that, and so I, you know, once they gave me the suit, and I said, "Well, give me the nail and give me the hairnet," and and then I just went to town, and I did not think that they were going to use all of that stuff.

I didn't think that. I was like, "Well, maybe they'll use something." They used everything, you know, and I I didn't know that song was going to be done, but I did want to do like the Muhammad Ali kind of dance, you know, when Muhammad would knock. Guy down, he would dance back, you know, and do his thing.

So I threw in a lot of different things, and I was very thin from another movie that I made, The Truce, and it all, you know, worked out well. But those guys are, you know, I mean, they actually. When I went door to door, I don't know if you know. There's a flashback. They say, "Well, he has to go door to door because he's a sex offender." So I had like tight jeans on.

You don't really see it, but they made me a giant like codpiece, and I was like, "Do I have to wear this?" And I had really tight pants, really tight, and it was like down to almost my knee. And there, I was walking to the set, and a like a car stopped. Like some guys saw it, like it was like this is the biggest you know Johnson I ever seen in my life. You know what I mean? And I was like, oh my god, I can't believe these guys.

But for those guys. For those guys, I would do basically, you know, like anything because I am uninhibited when it comes to my work if it serves the story, you know. But I was also—we just have so much fun that you guys are laughing. That's how that's how it is on the set. The Coen Brothers, yeah, at the Big Lebowski or just in general, but just every every movie we've done, we've so so the the the cleaning of the the well.

I saw it and I said. This is like cleaning my, you know, my balls.

So and so, I I did that for them, right? They were like, you know, they were like, oh, John, they said that's like the most horrifying shot we've ever done. You know what I mean? And I was like, you know, I love doing stuff like that because I was like, well, you know what? People to this day, they they they they got to shine their balls, and that's it.

So you know, and it's. And I'm like, you know, yeah. I mean, that's like that character. I mean, that moved the whole movie became this almost like a religious experience. I've talked to soldiers, a lot of people in armed forces, and they say, you know, we take DVDs with us, and we take the Big Lebowski with us.

That's like the highest compliment you can get. That is, was there talk about a prequel based on your? I did, I did something, sort of a sequel to it. But at the time it came out, everyone thought it's actually worth seeing. It's called The Jesus Rolls, and it's like, and it's really worth seeing.

The Jesus Rolls, and it's the Jesus. Bobby Cannavale is in it. Oh, tattoo. Susan Sarandon. It's it's good.

Check it out. And Joel and Ethan were very supportive of me doing that because I had done this character. He's legendary. Yeah, and it's based. By the way, the genesis of it is based on a real guy.

On a real guy. Is that who was it? It was a guy that the writer Ronaldo Prado. It was based on his father. At least his voice was based on his father, and the whole high voice, you know, that's that's from Mister Prado.

You know, he was a he was a really interesting guy, and and that's how you do it. You stitch all these things together. But yeah, the shining of the balls. Last one for you, through balls. You specifically.

Requested Christopher Walken for the role of Bert on. Absolutely, I love Chris. I've worked with Chris. I think he's a great actor. He can do all different kinds of things, and I've seen him do classical theater, you know, contemporary theater.

I saw him play Elvis Presley in a play that he wrote. I love Chris, and so I wanted to be with someone that I didn't have to. Make that up, like when you're with someone that you really you have real warm feelings for, and we have such fun together because he has the experience of an older person, but he's got the childlike wonder, you know, of a child when a child is playing sports or playing a game, playing make believe, and it's. It's a real treat to work with someone that great. We we so you told Ben Stiller, hey, I said, what about?

He said, would you think you could? He because they wanted a younger guy. I was like, no, I like I go for older guys. You know what I mean? Right?

Older guys. Sure. No, no. I I always think like there are certain people. You know, it's you never.

You are not dead when you get older. You are still alive. You are still the person that you were. There is still this young person in you, and I thought there was something really potent about that, and we don't see that a lot. No, correct, or or television shows like obviously Severance is so brilliant, and you know it's funny.

Who was it? Was it Sean William Scott, the actor, who said on a set he was on a movie with Christopher Walken? Oh, yeah, the Rundown that he, yeah, that he said that Walken. Was walking around moping, and everyone's like, "What's wrong?" And he goes, "It's my birthday, and nobody's really wishing me a birthday." And so the whole crew got together to sing him happy birthday. And it wasn't his birthday, and he just winked at Sean William Scott and walked away.

Well, Chris has a very you know specific humor, but we just laugh like about. We can have fun doing anything, and I just love. I really you know love working with Chris.

Well, we've just scratched the surface on everything. When you know, whenever you want to promote anything, you're. This is great. This is great. I actually can work on the crew here for sure.

This is what this is what it's all about. Whenever you want, please come back.
