It is the JR Sport Brief Show on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you to everybody tuned in all over North America. Happy Monday to you. Hope you had a tremendous day.

I'll be hanging out with you for one more hour. This show gets started every single weekday at 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. I'm in Atlanta. Thank you to our producer in New York City holding it down, Chris Persianin. And speaking of New York City, right now, this minute to second at halftime, the Celtics lead the New York Knicks 62 to 51. Jason Tatum lighting it up 20 points at the half, four of seven from downtown. The Celtics are trying to tie this series up at two games apiece. Minnesota, they're trying to go up 3-1 against the Steph Curry-less Golden State Warriors. That game gets underway in about an hour. And what a day in the NBA.

How about this? A couple hours ago, the Dallas Mavericks, if you're just hearing this for the first time, damn, the Dallas Mavericks end up with the number one overall pick in next month's NBA draft. Oh no, no, I'm not joking.

I'm serious. The Mavs are going to have the first crack. They're going to have the number one selection, the number one pick, and an opportunity to select Cooper Flagg.

You can't make this stuff up. We spoke to Joe Vardon from the athletic he came through and joined us. Giannis Atetokounmpo is apparently open to moving on from the Milwaukee Bucks.

We talked about a lot, man. Trey Hendrickson not happy with the Bengals. He says that they don't want to discuss his contract. Derek Carr retired over the weekend. It's just, it's been a wild day. And then the NFL released its schedule today as well. Well, the full release is Wednesday. We got tipped off as to some of the games that will take place. Eagles will open up the season against the Cowboys, the Steelers. We don't know their opponent yet rumored to be the Vikings. The Steelers are going to be playing in Ireland. The Chiefs are going to host the Broncos on Christmas night.

So there's a lot going on. That'll be an Amazon Thursday night football game, Black Friday game. We'll have the Chicago Bears and the Eagles. Let's wait a couple of days, two more days. We find out the NFL's full schedule. Go ahead and get your trips ready.

Okay. Speaking of trips ready, Cooper flag can start getting ready, start looking for some houses, start checking out some apartments, some condos in Dallas because Cooper flag is expected to be the next big thing in Dallas, Texas. Now that the Dallas Mavericks, well, they traded away Luka Doncic. And of course there are plenty of people all online. I just put a poll up on Instagram and 85 percent of people are just like, this is rigged. What's rigged?

I want you to take a listen. These are the final four slots from ESPN earlier this evening as they conducted their NBA draft lottery in somehow, some way, the Dallas Mavericks with a one point eight percent chance to end up with the number one spot. They did it. This is courtesy of ESPN. Listen to the final four. The fourth pick in the NBA draft goes to the Charlotte Hornets. Picking third will be the Philadelphia 76ers. The second pick will be made by the San Antonio Spurs.

And that means that the number one pick in the 2025 NBA draft goes to the Dallas Mavericks. Yeah, you can't make this stuff up, right? This is even LeBron James put out a message. He just put out laughing emojis on social media. There were no words.

There was no context. LeBron James just put out crying, laughing emojis like he's thinking what everybody else is thinking. Like, this is crazy. Even though there's a lot of people think this is rigged.

I don't believe so. I think there's too much gambling money that's involved. I don't think you would want to ruin the confidence of people's money. This is multi-billion dollars, OK? Well, they have backroom deals that get done.

Yes. But in a legitimate sports league, I don't think the NBA is running around forcing guys to run around trade, you know, trading a superstar to Los Angeles. The NBA draft lottery took place in Chicago, Illinois. You want to know who is on hand as they start the combine and what have you. Cooper Flag was there and ESPN spoke to him live on the air. And presumably, Cooper Flag is going to go number one to the Dallas Mavericks, unless Nico Harrison is really, really stupid.

We know he's dumb enough to trade Luca. Cooper Flag was asked about playing for the Dallas Mavericks, doing things on the offense, doing things on the defense. Listen to this. I think, like I said, this isn't this entire experience for me has been amazing. So going forward, I'm just going to look for that. Like you said, being a two way player, that's something that I've done since I was a little kid. So I'm just going to try and keep doing that to the best of my ability.

Good for him. And congratulations, regardless of whether you think it's a conspiracy, you think the NBA has rigged it. If you're a Dallas Mavericks fan, just just accept it.

Like, why are you going to worry about this? I've already had two Dallas Mavericks fans call me up and say, JR, I knew this was going to happen. Of course you did.

Of course you did. Just like you knew, I don't know, Dak was going to break his ankle or the Dallas Cowboys were going to suck. I mean, that's a little easier to predict. Sure, you knew the league was just going to bless the Dallas Mavericks with the number one overall pick. As you just heard as well, the San Antonio Spurs are selecting a number two overall like they needed help. Think about some of the top prospects in the draft. I know Rutgers stunk as a basketball team last year, but they do have some top picks. Former freshman Dylan Harper, Ace Bailey.

We watched Vijay Edgecombe over at Baylor. Like we got some solid players that are going to end up in the league and the Spurs with the Rookie of the Year, Steph Cassel and then some Victor Wimbunyama guy. I think we can all assume this is or should be OK following his issue with his blood clotting. Somehow, some way, the San Antonio Spurs are going to be better sooner than later unless they deal with some type of catastrophic injury. And all the best to Greg Popovich, too. He gets to sit upstairs and put all this together, all the best to him as he recovers. The rest of the draft order, the Mavs are selecting a number one overall, the Spurs at two, the Sixers at three.

Yeah, they get to maybe get somebody to help them because Jolynn Bead can't. The Hornets at four, Jazz five, Wizards at six, Pelicans at seven, Nets at eight, Raptors nine, Rockets 10, Trail Blazers 11, Bulls 12, Atlanta Hawks 13. I don't know what the hell the Hawks will do here. And at 14, the Spurs. The Spurs have two first round selections. And I mean, you think about some of the rumors that we've heard.

I don't know. Are the Spurs going to keep both draft selections? Are they going to package up number two and number 14? Or are the Spurs going to swing for the fences and say, let's get Giannis Atteracumpo. We learned earlier in the day, according to Shams, Giannis Atteracumpo is open to leaving the Milwaukee Bucks. Shams Sharania was on get up earlier today on ESPN, and he said Giannis for the first time ever is legitimately open to leaving.

I want you to take a listen to this. It's what Shams had to say. Green, Giannis Atteracumpo, the two time NBA MVP, has not made any firm decisions about his future. But sources tell me for the first time in his 12 year NBA career, he's open minded about whether his best fit is in Milwaukee or playing elsewhere and exploring what those options outside of Milwaukee look like. Is it sensible for him to potentially leave? Yeah, it is sensible for him to leave.

How the hell are they going to fix things? Damian Lillard is not getting younger and faster or stronger. Bobby Portis can opt out.

Brooke Lopez is old. This time in Milwaukee is probably done. You already got rid of Chris Middleton. OK, this guy can't stay healthy every time I turn. Is his ankles, do they work?

We don't know. And Giannis is 30. You want to tell me that there's not a better chance and an opportunity for Giannis to go to a younger, more established up and coming team like, I don't know, the Houston Rockets? Like the San Antonio Spurs? Is there some other team?

And every team has a different mix. Most certainly the Brooklyn Nets. They don't have the established players like some of these other teams I just mentioned do, but they got picks. But then if you're the Milwaukee Bucks, do you want picks or you want players? Because ultimately, we know that it's going to be tough just to get anybody to just sign in Milwaukee.

You're going to have to bring in a talent and then ultimately draft somebody in the future. No different than what you did with Giannis Atetokounpa. If I'm Giannis, man.

I'm leaving. Giannis has made it very clear in the past. He's like, hey, I want to stay in Milwaukee. But as long as we can compete for championships, well, it looks like that door is closed. Damian Lillard didn't even necessarily want to go to Milwaukee. This guy's getting older.

Let me tell you, smaller guards, they do not age well. When Giannis and the Bucks were eliminated by the Indiana Pacers, Giannis was asked about his future with the Milwaukee Bucks. And he's like, man, I don't even want to think about it. I don't want to answer this because anything I say can and will be used against me. Listen to this from Giannis.

Do you think that you can still win that second championship here in Milwaukee after a third straight first round exit? Look, I'm not I'm not I'm not going to do this. I'm not I'm not going to do this. I know how this is going to be.

Whatever I say, I know how it's going to translate. I'm not I don't know, man. I wish I was still playing. I wish I was still competing and going back to Milwaukee.

I don't know. Yeah, to be expected. I think Giannis is done. And so today is a major day in the NBA. We know that Cooper Flagg is going to be on his way to the Dallas Mavericks. I know Nico's the GM, but he's going to go. OK. Giannis, if this this type of thing coming out right now is not by by happenstance, it's not a coincidence that a good majority of NBA executives and GMs and coaches, everybody's having their powwows this week ahead of the NBA draft lottery in the NBA combine.

And so this is an opportune time for everybody to just look each other in the face and go. What are you going to give me for Giannis? How much I got to pay for Giannis? You want picks? I got players. I got players. I got. What do you want for Giannis?

It's at a coupon and there's other situations. I don't know. Is Giannis. He got a big old contract. Ain't no way to send him the Golden State. Right.

I'm just I think that's unlikely. Wilder things have happened. Luca Doncic to the Dallas Mavericks. Excuse me to the Lakers from the Mavs and then also the Mavs ending up with the number one overall pick tonight.

That made no damn sense. Meanwhile, speaking of basketball, this minute, this second in New York City. What else is new? The Celtics are leading the New York Knicks. Seventy two to sixty three is about seven minutes or so left here in the third quarter. Jason Tatum having the best game of the series so far, his best game of the series so far. He has twenty three points, five of nine from downtown. So the Boston Celtics, they shot twenty five of one hundred in the first two games and the last game.

They were 20 or 40 from three point land as 50 percent as an easy one. And tonight they're shooting another 50 percent from deep. The Boston Celtics, 14 of 28 from downtown. Derek White lighting it up as well.

Five of seven. The New York Knicks do not have enough firepower to keep up with this Boston Celtics team. And if they do, it's going to have to be another come from behind win. I don't think the Boston Celtics are going to squander this. Jalen Brunson with 18 points. Karl Anthony Towns with 15, the New York Knicks, another bad shooting night from downtown, eight of twenty three.

Jalen Brown, he spoke to the media prior to the game and he made it very clear. Yeah, the New York Knicks up against us two games to one, but they didn't win the series yet. Listen to Jalen Brown. You've got to beat us four times. I mean, that's what it comes down to.

I'm not twice, not once, not three. You've got to win four games. So it's a lot of basketball to be played. It's a lot of basketball to be played. Minnesota in the same position as the New York Knicks, except for, you know, Golden State doesn't have that Steph Curry guy out there.

They get underway in about forty five minutes. Minnesota is trying to get Golden State the hell up on out of here. They do not want to see Steph Curry again. We know he's dealing with that hamstring strain. And they said at best, which I don't think sounds good at best, we'll see Steph Curry back at game six.

I am not all that positive that that will be the case. It's the J.R. Sportbree show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Eight eight eight seven ten for ISN is the number that's eight eight eight seven ten for ISN. Hey, we've talked about Cooper flag. We talked about the Dallas Mavericks. We just talked about Giannis a tete kumpo. Is it time for Giannis to move on? I think the answer is yes. Do I think the NBA is rigged?

I say hell no. What are your thoughts on the Dallas Mavericks ending up with the number one overall pick? And if you're in Wisconsin, we just had a caller. He was worried about Jair Alexander and Giannis. If you're Giannis a tete kumpo. Is it time to leave Milwaukee? If you're Giannis, is it time to search elsewhere for another championship? And if you're the Bucks, is this not the opportune time to say, man, it's going to be a few years. We might as well get something back now. What do you think? Is it time for Giannis to go? Eight eight eight seven ten for ISN.

That's eight eight eight seven ten for ISN. We'll get to your calls. We'll talk about Trey Hendrickson. There's a bunch of other people that have gone on, whether they were forced out or whether it was time to go.

Like Derek Carr, like Bud Black. There's a lot of things we got to do. And of course, at the end of the show, we'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history.

The phone lines are open if you want to give me a holler. Eight eight eight seven ten for ISN. It is the J.R. sport re-show on the Infinity Sports Network. Eight eight eight seven ten for ISN. That's eight eight eight seven ten for ISN.

Here we go again. The Boston Celtics lead the Knicks 81 to 76. It's about four minutes to go here in the third quarter. The Celtics are basically 50 percent from downtown, 15 of 29. They live by the three early on in the series.

They died by the three. Derek White. Hot from downtown, six of eight. Jason Tatum, five of nine. Jalen Brown with 16 points. Tatum, 27. Derek White with all of these threes.

Yes, 23 points. He's only taken every shot he's taken has been a three except for one. All of his shots made have been threes. Derek White, also five of seven from the free throw line. Yeah, the New York Knicks don't have this much depth, OK?

Not at all. Jalen Brunson, 25 points. Karl-Anthony Towns with 19. Chris, the Knicks on this comeback path again.

I guess they're not tired of this. They still taking an L tonight, huh? Listen, man, it looks within reach right now down five. I mean, you just got to hope they don't make 12 threes again this quarter if you're New York. Yeah, this is the New York Knicks way. We got about 15 minutes to go here in the game. The Knicks are going on a run 83 to 78.

We'll keep you up to date as the New York Knicks just give their fans heart attacks. I did see there's a and we know there's a lot of celebrities who pop up at Knicks games. I can't pick everybody.

I don't know a lot of these folks. I did see Stefan Diggs and and Cardi B. And so New England Patriot fans feel feel good. Cardi B, I guess, is helping Stefan Diggs in his recovery. Whatever the hell that means. I expect a good performance from him this year.

I guess I have no idea. Speaking of performance, Trey Hendrickson. We have no idea where the hell he's going to play. Stefan Diggs, a poor dude, tore up his knee last year in Houston, now is up in New England. Trey Hendrickson is still with the Cincinnati Bengals. He has one year left on his deal. He's making about 17, 18 million dollars.

He had 17 and a half sacks the past couple of seasons. And he says the Cincinnati Bengals have stopped all communications with him and his agent since the conclusion. Of the NFL draft. Now, why would they do that? Are they the Bengals being jerks here?

Well, the answer is yes. We also know the Cincinnati Bengals are cheap. We also know this past last month in the draft, they decided to select Shamar Stewart out of Texas A&M. That's the guy who can get to the quarterback but can never sack them.

OK, they're not stupid. Maybe in the future they're hoping that he can go out there and replace Trey Hendrickson. And Trey Hendrickson sent a whole statement out to ESPN today and he said, man, the Bengals, they're not talking to me. This is not what they said last offseason.

They said that they were going to work with me if I had another great year. And apparently they ain't talking to him right now. And this isn't the first time he said this. Just last month, Trey Hendrickson was on ESPN. He was having a chat with Pat McAfee and he made it very clear that the communication was poor a month ago. And it's bad that right now it has completely stopped.

This is what he said last month. And through this process, you know, communication, when I say it's been poor, it's been like here and there. You know, and respect to Jamarti, I don't want to take anything away from all the great things they've accomplished in their careers. They deserve everything that they've gotten.

And no doubt in my mind, they're going to excel in the National Football League. I have a tremendous respect for both of them. But when it comes to my situation, it would have been nice to know, you know, in some ways, like, hey, we're going to put you in the queue. No problem with me.

My wife and I try to be as humble as possible as Christ loving people. So we don't we don't have any desires of being highest paid or first in line. I think he's done, man. There's no way in hell. And even if he's back for one more year, he's still gone. He might as well get something for him right now.

He has one year left on his deal. Like how much of a cheapskate organization do the Cincinnati Bengals want to be? I've heard it all before. We've seen this.

We've seen this story. You guys decided to pay. All your skilled players, except for Joe Mixon on the offensive side of the ball, he's now gone. But Japan Higgins playing borough. Jamarti Chase is making 40 plus at the wide receiver position. He got no money for the defense.

Apparently not. Trey Hendrickson. I know it's May. The draft has already taken place. He's either taken a massive discount. The Cincinnati Bengals are ready to move on. If I was him, I'd be like, get me out of here, please.

Please. Ironically, he started his career for the Saints. One guy who is done in the NFL completely is Derek Carr. We learned over the weekend that his shoulder condition is such that he can no longer play. First, it was the rumors that he may not play this season. The Saints are trying to suck this year. I think they want to bring in Arch Manning. I don't blame them. Because why the hell would you drive Tyler Shuck who can basically stay healthy?

He can't stay healthy himself. And let me tell you, the fans down in New Orleans, fans in Louisiana, they're thrilled. They're thrilled that Derek Carr is going. I want you to listen to this. This is a news clip from WDSU.

And the fans are just like, yeah, the alerts were going off that Derek Carr was retiring. I thought it was a gift from God. Listen, I couldn't. Yes, Lord.

I had to I had to get off the line because everybody's phone went off at the same time. I thought it was like a weather advisory or something. But no, it was a message from God.

And the message was loud and clear. After two seasons with the Saints, quarterback Derek Carr is retiring. Happy, happy for him, taking care of himself, his family. Oh, man, I'm happy for him.

OK, be happy for yourself. The Saints are going to be so bad that they'll have a great chance and opportunity to draft Arch Manning. I've been waiting. I've been waiting on Quinn.

You was to leave for so damn long. And now he's gone in the NFL. He's going to carry a clipboard in Miami. Now we get to see what Arch Manning can do down in Texas.

I'm looking forward to it. And now I think about it is a bad weekend for people. I mean, some people, not the Dallas Mavericks people. But black got fired. How the hell we got a baseball team that's worse than what we got out of the White Sox last year. God bless them. The Colorado Rockies are trying to score right now. They're trying to win.

Let me say that. They actually have a score. They have they've scored a run. The Rockies lead the Rangers one to nothing.

But on Saturday, this is just this is pathetic. They lost 21 to nothing. And then at that point in time where they had already committed to keeping Bud Black in the Padres spanked them 21 to nothing. And then they immediately fired the guy.

You can't make this stuff up. Fortunately for the Rockies, I guess the Saints fans probably have more hope. Even the folks in Denver is like, what's going on with the Rockies? You can fire Bud Black.

But that's not going to change the players and their inability to score. Listen to this courtesy of Denver seven. Meanwhile, at Coors Field, the Rockies fired Bud Black today after the team beat the Padres nine to three. This coming just one day after saying they backed their manager and the team lost 21 to nothing last night. This organization is such a mess from the top on down.

But takes the fall, of course, and it's really no big surprise it was coming. Current third base coach Warren Schaefer has been named the interim manager to the end of the season. Current hitting coach Clint Hurdle has been named the interim bench coach. Rockies owner Dick Montfort released a statement saying our play so far this season, especially coming off the last two seasons, has been unacceptable. Our fans deserve better and we are capable of better.

End quote. The most unacceptable thing in all of this is Dick Montfort owning the team and allowing this to happen. And Bill Schmidt, the general manager, those two are not fired. Who's going to fire them?

Nobody. But they're most responsible for this. Man, I feel a sports fans just all over the country are dealing with the same thing, whether you're the Saints or whether you're up in Pittsburgh with the Pirates, not the Steelers people relax in Pittsburgh. You know, you like to beat up on Mike Tomlin, beat up on Bob Nutting.

There's so many teams that are so miserable. Let's fire the coach. Let's fire the manager. What's that going to do? Nothing.

You've got to get some players in there. Which is why what happened tonight with the Dallas Mavericks, you know, ending up with the number one overall pick. Hilarious.

Now to get their hands on Cooper Flagg, this stuff just makes no sense. Hey, Marco, were you, I don't know, rolling the Magic 8 ball? Were you doing a Ouija board? How the hell are Mavericks end up number one? I don't know. What was the Patrick Ewing?

What was it? The frozen slip? Yeah. Are we still doing that? Are we using the ping pong balls?

Are they weighted a little bit different? Is there some ball bearings in the ones of the Mavericks hat? LeBron James. He tweeted the laughing emojis like, hey, he said his stuff on a podcast not too long ago. He's like, oh, this is fake.

It's like LeBron. Why are you saying this, man? Shut up. You know, I even said as soon as it came through, I was like, you know what? Look, this is the stuff that makes you go, is it rigged? Because it's not good.

What Dallas did and the backlash and the fan band. It makes you wonder if Adam Silver looked at it and goes, can we do a do over here? Can we can we fix this? No, you know, I'd like to think not. But this kind of stuff leads to it.

Oh, certainly. I said I did a poll on Instagram. It's like 85 percent of people were just like, yeah, this is rigged.

But 85 percent of people don't follow the legal on that. We got video of Nico Harrison, his reaction. Oh, my God. Yeah, not his reaction. He jumped up because he knew his ass got saved from his dumb ass decision in February.

Wow. Is he going to trade the pick? I said to make another mistake. We're going to find out how dumb he is. Does he want Timothy Moskov instead?

Oh, my God. Now, what is he? Is he still playing ball somewhere in Europe? I know he ain't in the league no more.

I don't know. Is he still under contract with the Lakers? Did they pay him like half a billion dollars? Is he still somewhere there on the book? And you get Cooper flag on the Lakers to make sure that that team is completely solidified for next year.

Moskov's career was done. Didn't he meet Blake Griffin's nether regions? No.

Right. Was it Blake or DeAndre did that to him? I feel like it was DeAndre, but I could be wrong. I think it was both.

I think at one point in time he got got man. That was terrible. It could be Frederick. Frederick Woosley. Or whatever. Yeah. Frederick Vice.

There you go. Vince Carter. Vince Carter. He's like, man, NBA what?

No, thank you. I feel like Moskov could have got done that by a lot of people. So he got Moskov.

It's a it's a verb. And speaking of the he was on the Knicks. Speaking of the Knicks.

What the hell is the problem? I know that I know they got a it's not a problem. At least they got Jalen Brunson. This team was losing again. And they got Mr.

Clutch over here, Jalen Brunson, helping to turn things around. Marco, if you work things out for the Mavs, work things out for the Knicks, too, I guess. That's how you know I'm not in control of anything, because the Knicks have never won in my lifetime.

And it's been over 50 years. I have control of nothing. Yeah. Saying the same here. I got no expectation.

Well, anyway, let's put it this way. I still don't have faith that the New York Knicks are going to win tonight to get an update on the Knicks and everything else going on in the world. The sports sound for a newsflash. You just heard his voice.

It's Marco Belletti. It is the JR Sportbreeze show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. It looks like the New York Knicks are going to take this down to the wire in New York City. Right now, this minute, this second, the New York Knicks lead the Celtics 92 to 89. The Boston Celtics, like the first two games of the series, they've had some they've had some healthy leads here against the New York Knicks.

And today is no different. They led by 14 points at one point in time, keeping the New York Knicks at bay, knocking down threes. And that's that's slow down. Tatum has 31 points. He's now five of 13 from deep in Derek White.

But one point in time was six of eight is now six of 10. Boston Celtics is about 10 minutes left in this game. There's plenty of time for them to avoid a disaster if the New York Knicks win.

They go up 31. And as much as I believe the Celtics will win this series. If they don't win this tonight, if Jason Tatum or Brown and yeah, there's Derek White out there.

Yeah, they got help. The Celtics don't win this game. I'm going to go ahead and give it to the New York Knicks.

And then at that point, we can go ahead and take a look at the Boston Celtics as a team that will definitely. There'll be some changes. Let's put it that way. I don't know if you're getting ready to take them. I don't know if you're getting ready. Brown.

But the cost of the scene. Like under the salary cap and you got a new owner coming in. No, everybody's not sticking around. The New York Knicks now lead 94 to 89. Brunson leading the way with 31 points. What a shot.

What a shot. Chris, this is this is this game is going to be. Well, it's going to it'll end probably once we get off the air.

But whatever happens, we're going to have we're going to have quite a bit to discuss tomorrow. Oh, J.R., the drama is afoot. I mean, it is upon us, Jalen Brown to the bench with five fouls, 10 minutes left in a close game. This is what the NBA playoffs are for, man. Yeah, well, this is and this is the thing about Tatum this year time like Jalen Brunson is doing it at home. He's doing what he's expected to do. He's putting up the points. He's he's shocking.

Well, not shocking everybody. It's just it's so crazy. We talk about some of the ridiculous decisions by the Dallas Mavericks. Still, the fact and I get it, he wouldn't be this type of player alongside Luka Doncic.

The fact that he just kind of walked away for nothing is mind boggling. We can't go ahead and blame that one on Nico Harrison. But Jason Tatum at 33 points tonight.

He has to close this out. I mean, if you got Brown now in foul trouble, he has five fouls. It's on Tatum in a holiday and white and they have enough guys. Kristaps Porzingis has been dealing with this sickness. I don't know if I'm a Celtics fan.

I am sweating. Based on what takes place, what we've seen throughout this entire series. And so we'll keep you up to date the best way that we can.

But with about. Eight minutes to go, eight plus minutes to go here in this game. The Knicks and Celtics are just nail biter. Ninety four.

Ninety three. The Knicks lead the Celtics. Hey, it is the end of the show. Which means it's time to talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history. And one thing I know is going to happen in the future.

It will talk about this is that the Dallas Mavericks ended up with the number one overall pick where they had less than a two percent chance to do so. But that's today. Let's go back in time. Back in the days when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore.

But some days I sit and wish I was a kid again. It's time for this day in sports history. You see, back in those days, we had radio and you couldn't see anything.

And it was primitive and lousy and we liked it. On the JR Sport Brief Show. I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Today is May 12th. The year is 2025.

It is only a few more hours left in a day, depending on where you live. But anyway, let's go back to May 12th, the year 1970. And what happened? Ernie Banks hit his 500th home run. He did it in the second inning off of Pat Jarvis. This was the Atlanta Braves taking on the Chicago Cubs. And Ernie Banks became the ninth player to reach the 500 home run milestone. Hey, let's take a listen to this courtesy of Major League Baseball. Jarvis fires away.

That's a fly ball. Beat the left. Back. Back. That's it. That's it.

He did it. Ernie Banks got number 500. A line drive shot into the seats and left. The ball tossed to the bullpen. Everybody on your feet.

This is it. Ernie Banks off Pat Jarvis, May 12th, 1970. Second inning against the Atlanta Braves.

There's the ball. Yeah, let's Mr. Let's play to the legend Cubs legend, baseball legend. Ernie Banks, he played one more season after 1970, retiring in 1971. That was his 500th home run this day, May 12th and 1970. He finished his career with five hundred and twelve long balls.

May 12th, 1974. Oh, this is Celtics related. OK, the Celtics. They won another one. The Celtics beat the Bucks in seven games.

102 to 87 was the final score. They weren't even supposed to be here at seven games. They were taking on the Bucks and Kareem. Yeah, Bucks was out west at that point in time. Kareem hit a skyhook.

What else is new? On the baseline to basically win them the game, forcing a game seven. The Boston Celtics said, you know what, in order to beat the Bucks and Kareem, we got to make John Havlicek. Yeah, him. We got to make him a decoy. And he's just like, what?

Well, guess what? It worked. Dave Cowans went off for twenty eight points and the Celtics won game seven. Listen to John Havlicek tell you about it. This is courtesy of NBC Sports Boston. I still was able to score 16 or 17 points, but it was a good strategy.

But it was a shock to me when, you know, he told me he wanted me to be a decoy. That's it. It's history. The Boston Celtics have won the World Championship in 1974. The final score here at Milwaukee, Boston 102, Milwaukee 87. John Havlicek was the most valuable player in this series. Yeah, that's that's kind of crazy to think about.

Oh, man. John Havlicek playing, playing decoy. You know, those are a few things that took place this day in sports history.

There we have it. Speaking of actual things going on right now, speaking of the Celtics. Then it's still going blow for blow. They're about halfway through the fourth right now. The New York Knicks lead 102 to ninety nine. Tatum is putting the team on his back the best way that he can. Tatum with 90.

Excuse me. I'd say ninety nine points. Hell, no, he didn't. Thirty nine points.

Jalen Brunson with 31. Yeah, we're going to run out of time on this one. We'll have to discuss this tomorrow. And then something big happened today.

We talked about it earlier on in the show. Amongst all of the sports news that came down the pipe, the Dallas Mavericks ending up with the number one overall pick. They're going to select Cooper flag.

You would assume they would. You'll never know it. Nico Harrison. The news that Giannis, it's at a Kumpo is considering he's open to a move away from the Milwaukee Bucks. Trey Hendrickson letting everybody know the Bengals are still stupid.

I guess they're the. NFL's version of the Dallas Mavericks. We got news today that I loved that Michael Jordan is going to be contributing to coverage as the NBA returns.

On NBC. Yeah, I don't think he's going to be no Charles Barkley, but I certainly hope that Michael Jordan is. Just straight like, why wouldn't we want to hear Michael Jordan's?

I would love to hear his opinion. Michael Jordan has always been so straight and never tried to, you know, wrinkle any feathers. But I guess at this point in stage of his life now older than 60, he sold the Hornets like there's nothing for him to do. But to be honest and talk trash, right. NBC Sports says Michael Jordan will be a special contributor on NBC when they start coverage later on this year. OK, let's hope that Michael Jordan isn't sanitized and he's actually out there talking some crap.

Chris, he's he's going to be honest, right? I know it's not TNT and it doesn't seem like a place for Michael Jordan. That's Charles Barkley space.

And we know they ain't buddies anymore. You think we'll get Michael Jordan talking crap? I don't think you'll see Michael Jordan talking super detrimentally about players in a competitive way because they're not taking food off his plate. But I do think we'll get him being honest about situations. I feel like he kind of knows why he's being brought in. He knows he's got to play a little bit of a character.

Just a bit, right? I don't think Michael Jordan. He doesn't have to play a character.

Not at all. And that's not that's not Michael Jordan. As long as what you said, Michael Jordan is honest, everything will certainly go out there and fall into place.

I guess maybe my perspective is different here because I'm so much younger. But like, I don't know much about what he thinks about the last dance is the most I've ever learned about it. He is. Yes, he is. He is throughout his career, not critical because he was about making money. But I think he's at the stage of his life and his career with his businesses and whatnot that he can go out there and be honest. And I think one thing he will be is not disrespectful, but brutally honest.

That's that's that's my hope. Right now, the Knicks and Celtics are still going at it. 102 to 101, Knicks over to Celtics. Six minutes to go in the game.

It's the J.R. Sportbreeze show on the Infinity Sports Network. It's over. Thank you so much to Joe Vardin for joining us. We'll keep you up to date with all the basketball coming our way. The Warriors are trying to hold on against the Wolves. Don't move here on the Infinity Sports Network. Because Bart Winkle is coming up next. Thank you so much to Chris and thank you to you for listening.
