The evacuation of Saigon in 1975 was a chaotic and desperate attempt to save American citizens and Vietnamese allies from the advancing North Vietnamese Army. Led by General Van Thien Dung, the North Vietnamese Army encircled the city, and the US Ambassador, Graham Martin, was reluctant to leave, believing a deal could be cut with the North Vietnamese.
