The fifth commandment emphasizes the importance of honoring, fearing, and obeying parents as a reflection of a person's relationship with God. This commandment is rooted in God's original design for the family, where parents are designated authorities responsible for loving and leading their children in the ways of God. Honoring parents means treating them with weighty worth, valuing their input, and showing respect, even when they make mistakes. The commandment is not limited to children, but also applies to grown children who should ask for wisdom, provide care, and forgive their parents. [... more]
