Welcome to One Nation. I'm Brian Kilmead. Hope you're having a fantastic weekend. It's going to get better. We've got a great show for you.
I'll give you an example: Drew Rosenhaus. He actually has a client, has a player who's in an NFL camp, wants to go back and play college football. Can he do that? We're going to discuss a big change, another change in college sports. Mark Wayne Moan, the Secretary of Homeland Security, wants to push back against the anti-ICE movement and so much more.
And Michelle Tafoya, the best hope Republicans have had of holding a Senate seat in Minnesota in probably 20 years. But first, the fastest, most impactful monologue in America. We begin with the social media big tobacco moment. What do you think? A landmark legal battle coming to a close this week, changing social media forever.
Meta agreeing to pay up to $18 billion to states nationwide amid allegations it's intentionally designed addictive platforms harming young people's health. But despite the massive payout and sweeping changes, Meta emits no wrongdoing. That's a bit of a letdown. But we've seen this movie before. These systems, fundamentally, I think the question you have to ask is: are they designed by child psychologists asking what's best for children?
Or were they designed by a bunch of, in the case of Snapchat, 20 to 30-year-old white Stanford engineer guys who I know because I went to the same school, who were just designing something that would go viral and people would use a lot and make it addictive? And so it's the kind of new big tobacco, except it's big tobacco for our brains. Perhaps, flashback to 1994, you got seven tobacco executives under oath before Congress telling America this. And I just can't understand. how each of you is engaged in an enterprise.
that is sure to kill. And the data has not convinced me That does. Uh smoking causes death. Cigarette smoking is habit forming. In the same way that other pleasurable activities such as watching T V, eating your favorite foods, Can you believe that?
Can you believe that? But behind the scenes, whistleblowers, internal documents, we're telling a very different story. Big tobacco knew that nicotine. Was addictive and schemed to create and sustain an addiction while denying the danger. We recognize that youth smoking is a very real and serious problem and that something needs to be done.
I'm not a scientist, but I do believe that today that cigarette smoking plays a role in Causing lung cancer. You think? It became the real-life story behind the movie in 1999 called The Insider. Remember? And that's what cigarettes are for.
Delivery device for nicotine. A delivery device for nicotine. Put it in your mouth, light it up, and you're going to get your fix. You're going to get your fix. That's what happened.
That was Russell Crowe, of course. But that wasn't the final reckoning. 2006, we had to wait for a landmark federal racketeering ruling that found that big tobacco had carried out a decades-long scheme to deceive Americans and the world, denying the dangers and the addictiveness of smoking while manipulating nicotine to sustain the addiction. The court then ordered the companies to publicly correct the record by displaying signs like this, right? We now knew for sure smoking kills on average 1,200 Americans every day.
Then you can make your own choice. Smoking is highly addictive. Nicotine is the addictive drug in tobacco. If you're smoking now, that's your choice. But you know the reality of it and you know the cost.
Well, the cost was more than 20 million Americans lost their lives in the 50 years after the Surgeon General's landmark warning. But once the truth was out, smoking fell 24%. In 1998, by 14%. By 2019, it fell, and then it got cut in half as of today. Are we now seeing the reckoning for social media?
You know, it exploded in the 2000s. We didn't know what we were doing. But by 2012, we knew what we were doing. There were concerns about its impact on kids, and it was mounting. They're trying to sell a product, and that's fine.
But when that product is so blatantly harming kids, and we now have the documentation from those court cases showing they knew that, and they continue to push in that direction anyway, a little accountability is probably not a bad thing. It's a good thing. Meta is still not admitting, though, it intentionally designed those platforms to addict your kids. But, like Big Tobacco, its practices now are being forced to include some changes. For example, they got a two-hour limit for minors.
There are overnight restrictions, so you can't have to stop using it by midnight. I think it should be earlier. No after-school notifications while you're in school, I should say. Stronger age verification, hidden light counts. You can't do that.
Parental controls are now in and needed, and an option to turn off the personalized algorithmic feed. Will any of this work? Who better to ask than the guy who hosts Ask Dr. Drew? You see him all over the channel.
You always need his expertise. He's an addictive expert. He is Dr. Drew Prinsky.
So, Dr. Drew, great to see you. Me too. Have we reached that tobacco moment with social media? No doubt in my mind.
I've always thought tobacco was a good model for what the screens do to us. It's the exact same phenomenon. And I would even argue when it comes to things like porn and gambling, it's a crackpipe. It gets worse. We have to be careful with the model of addiction per se.
There's a difference between addiction and dependency, but there is no doubt that, much like cigarettes, these things are designed to make us dependent, make us like it, make us want it, and make us keep using it. And we have enormous amounts of data showing how much it's harmed kids. It's about time. There's got to be another layer on this, too. We've got to keep it out of schools, period.
No school should allow phones on their grounds during where kids are at school. I mean, we have countless countries now banning it up to the age of 15. If they've tried it already, it's going to be easy to get around. Nine-year-olds will be stopped. And people are saying, oh, it's a restriction on the commerce of the United States.
This is looking. This is a reckoning. It needed to come. And to some extent, Meta is not having as much of a reckoning or a punishment. They're not apologizing.
They didn't say we did it.
Well, then they'll really get punishment if there'd be legal liability if they did. But I don't care. I want the kids safe. And this is clearly a giant step in the right direction. And one other piece of this that they put into this settlement, which is that TikTok and YouTube and Snap have got to come along for the riot.
Because if they don't, this whole thing is going to be useless. Especially TikTok, too, because more kids use that. And I think only 41% use Facebook, a little bit more, use Instagram. I want to talk about the other countries. They did the banning.
What's taking us so long? We should be banning it too for kids up to 60. I think it is probably our business culture. I mean, we shouldn't be condemning a business for living up to their fiduciary responsibility to their stockholders. It's on us as parents to do the job about how those kids use those screens.
Guess what? We need help. We've got some help. But don't you think it adds to the loneliness these kids are doing? It's a depression.
Look, and then you add the COVID lockdown, what screens did during lockdown. We told everyone how catastrophic what happened then. The amount of porn exposure and sex, all horrible things were going on. Kids were exposed to traumatic things because of the access to screens. And there was no socializing.
There was nothing to mitigate it. As I said, during the lockdowns, we were destroying 8 to 15 year olds. And I just talked to a group of parents yesterday. She was actually one parent. She was talking about having a 13 and 15 year old.
I said, and some older kids. I said, who got it worse during COVID? The younger kids. Anybody that was 8 to 15, that window, they needed their peers. They needed their cognitive development.
And that is a window that potentially could have closed now. And we watch our grades drop, but the homework increase. And part of it is all the electronics we're finding out now. Hopefully, and then the unhappiness and the eating disorders and the body dysmorphia and the female depression. I mean, it is out of control.
The filter's got to be a long time incoming. I commend them for doing it. I don't want people punished. I want the kids safe. Gotcha.
We've got to do it. And those European countries, and you could roll them through right now that have already put that in place and starting to ban it. And Australia was first. I want to bring this another area of your expertise, and that's we've been noticing that so many young men are leaving the workforce. Oh, yeah.
They say in ways technology is to blame for this. More women are in college than men. What's going on? Why can't we get millions of men to get a job? Men are in trouble.
We should come back and do a separate topic on that. They have been told for the last 15 years that they are toxic, unwanted, colonializing, evil. They've been called everything. And men feel it. Men want to be purposeful.
Men want to contribute. And when you tell young men they have nothing to offer, they have nothing to offer. And they just give up and they are fleeing romantic relationships. It's a flight. And the Lindsey Clancy case has added, accelerated that, unfortunately.
We should come back and do a separate topic on that. It's a mess. Right, but the relationship. Thing, do you think that's also related to social media? I could get my friendships there.
You know, it's funny. For a while, there I did think that they were saying things to me, you know, when the doors were shut, like, well, I got porn, I'm fine. You know, I don't really need a moment, but really, it's gotten way worse than that. There's a whole, I don't know if you know how deep you want to get into this, but there's a separate topic. For the next time, Dr.
Joe, you know how to tease. You can catch him on just about every platform. It's always great to see you, Dr. Joe. Giving impunity to folks that are shooting Americans dead in the street.
We need to abolish ICE. ICE needs to be abolished because the organization is completely corrupt. It's staffed by thugs. ICE cannot be reformed. ICE cannot be retrained.
ICE has to be abolished. Yeah. Despite the constant calls from the left to abolish ICE, the Department of Homeland Security is sweeping the streets with nearly 50,000 immigration arrests in July alone, the highest monthly total since the president began his second term. That's roughly 1,600 arrests every single day, including people convicted of serious crimes. You got child sex offenders, you got drug crimes, and arson.
More than half of those arrested come from just four states: you got Texas, Florida, California, and Georgia. But the crackdown isn't just happening in those states. DHS highlighting the arrests of more than 1,300 people in Maryland. And Virginia over the first two weeks of August. Joining us right now, the man that's leading the charge, DHS Secretary Mark Wayne Mullen.
First Secretary, great to see you. I want to get your reaction to those people that keep saying abolish a division of your agencies, right. Yeah, and so if you start looking at our department, we have 22 components that work under the Department of Homeland Security, and we actually, throughout all departments, we average just over 2,600 arrests.
So a lot of people just focus on ICE, but we have the Coast Guard that makes arrests. We have CBP that makes arrests, and we have SPS, which is our Federal Protection Service, that makes arrests. We have a Secret Service that actually makes encounters. And that isn't very common, but they do make arrests.
So on daily, we make over 2,600 arrests a day on these illegals. And overwhelmingly, the majority of them, Brian, are criminals. They're thugs. You talked about the 1,300 that we've arrested in Maryland and Virginia. Those are specific targets that have felony warrants on these individuals.
And Virginia, specifically, because Virginia won't honor our detainers.
So when they arrest somebody and they're in their jail and they're in their prisons and they're rapists, they're murderers, they're drug bangers, they're the worst criminals you can think of. Think of with child molesters and every type of crime you can think of, they release them back on the streets. These 1,300 represent those individuals that should have never been released back on the streets, and we go and pick them up. And we do this throughout all these sanctuary states and these sanctuary cities, and unfortunately, it's bleeding over to other areas that aren't having the same criminal history because they don't have the bad government that these sanctuary states do. And so it's frustrating when you have these candidates, Brian, that go out there and say abolish ICE, when all we're doing is we're enforcing our nation's laws and we're keeping our streets and our cities safe because these sanctuary politicians are thugs on themselves and they won't protect their own constituents.
And it's absolutely sad. It is. And I saw in Nassau County this week, we got counties. That don't want to be part of a sanctuary state. We have a governor in New York, Kathy Hoko, who said: any county that does it, that cooperates with ICE, we will go after the police chiefs and sheriffs, which made New York County Executive Bruce Blakeman have to come forward and announce he can no longer cooperate.
Watch. This law is written. In the blood of the victims Past, present, and future. I believe in the rule of law. Even when it's a bad law, and this is a very, very bad and dangerous law.
This law. Has been enacted for political purposes. This is one of the saddest days. Of my life as county executive. He can't cooperate with you now.
And he wants to be the next governor of New York, where he would change things. But do you know that you know that feeling? What changes now in Nassau County? Cops can help other cops, which are ice.
Well, what's going to end up happening is these thugs that I was just talking about that were arresting in Virginia and Maryland are now going to be released also on the streets throughout all of New York because police chiefs, sheriffs, and their deputies and officers, they want to cooperate. They dedicate their life to restoring law and order, protecting the innocent, and going after the criminals and the thugs. And when they can't cooperate with ICE, who is simply there enforcing our nation's laws that Congress that wants to complain about the laws that we're enforcing, they're the ones that passed them. They're the ones that put the statute in place for us to do. But you've got to think about this.
Most of these thugs, these politicians that are true thugs at this point, that are saying abolish ICE, abolish the police, they're also the leader of this new socialist Democrat Party. And in order for a socialist society to take over a democratic nation, they have to sow chaos. They have to create chaos in the streets, chaos in their states, and chaos throughout the nation. And then they make the argument: hey, the way to fix chaos is that you need big government. You need socialism to come in and take care of all of our problems.
And that is exactly the playbook that these socialist Democrats are playing now. It's crazy, and people will die because of that, and criminals are going to get out because of this. I want to bring you to some exchange that Jesse had a very interesting interview this week with Abdul El-Syed. When ICE came up, I want you to hear how he describes what you guys do. Want to abolish ice?
Who's going to deport the criminal aliens from the country?
Well, you and I both know that we've, long before we ever had ICE, we had INS. We were able to enforce our immigration policies without shooting people in the face in the back of the head. We have ICE now, and we have far, far more undocumented people.
So, ICE is clearly not working. It's just shooting American citizens in the face and the back of the head.
So, if you're not afraid of the people who are legals are shooting people in the face, too.
So I wanted you to be able to answer that, Mr. Secretary.
Well, this guy's a thug, and I don't know how else to say that. I can't imagine someone lying so bluntly like that. He's such an ignorant individual to say such ridiculous stuff that is nothing more than talking points. You know, it's President Trump that warned the American people about this actually in 2020 when Biden was running. The thing about it is, President Biden issued in this criminal activity, and I mean criminal activity by opening our border and flooding our cities and our states with these criminals and allowing the murder rate to go through the roof, allowing criminal activity to run wild in Central and South America to dump their prisons into our states.
President Trump ran on restoring law and order. The American people responded, and he got the largest election than we've ever had in American history with more voters that ever voted. And thank God they restored our law and order in the streets. And you're seeing that because of President Trump's policies, we're having record. Level criminal activity drop.
We've had the lowest murder rates, the lowest carjackings, and the lowest burglaries that we've seen in 100 years. And now you have guys like him that's running out there wanting to abolish the people that are enforcing this law. It doesn't make any sense. It won't work. The American people are not going to fall for this.
He will lose his election. Mike Rogers is going to be the next senator from Michigan. He understands what law and order is about. I served with him in Congress. We're excited that he's going to be able to make it in.
But unfortunately, the Democrat Party continued to elect individuals like that. I don't know if you've seen the person that's running for Senate, the Democrat that's running for Senate in Oklahoma, but holy smokes, she makes everybody else look sane. Yes, because she's not. Mr. Secretary, thanks so much.

Some of you have heard me tell this story before, but I think that the autism scam that we've seen in the Somalian parts of Minnesota really illustrates well what's been going on across whole layers of our government. You're not kidding. Fraud scandals are fueling voter frustration in Minnesota. And now, for the first time in over two decades, a Republican has a real shot at winning a Senate seat in the North Star State. Michelle Tafoya, the former sportscaster who won the Republican primary, is hoping to flip that seat to red, and she joins us right now.
Congratulations on the primary win. How's it feel, Michelle? Thank you.
Well, you know what? We feel good about it because our message clearly is resonating. We are talking a lot about that subject, the F-word, fraud. Every time I ask a Minnesotan, whether it's at the state fair or just at the grocery store, what's at the top of your list? Of concerns, they say fraud because we're talking billions and billions of dollars that didn't get where it was supposed to go to all these very important programs that are supposed to help the neediest among us.
It went right past those and into the pockets of criminals. And so far, not Tim Walls, not Peggy Flanagan, his lieutenant governor, who's my opponent. No one's been held accountable. People have gone to jail, but no one in government has stepped down. I mean, take a look at some of these numbers.
We forgot about it because it was kind of overshadowed by other fraud we found in other states. But it started here: $9 billion looted from Medicaid. You had about $18 billion in federal funds for 14 Minnesota-run programs. And then you had 78 defendants charged in feeding our future. That's a $250 million fraud in its own right.
And we've seen a lot in what Nick Shirley has produced. But Peggy Flanagan, the lieutenant governor, says it's not her fault. Blame my boss, Governor Waltz. Is that plausible? No, it's not plausible.
She was at his right hand. For eight years. She's been in government for 20 years taking a government-funded paycheck, that means a taxpayer paycheck. And for her to just say the buck stops with the governor, and just because I'm lieutenant governor, I've had nothing to do with it, that is shameful and embarrassing. It either means she's inept or she turned the other cheek, willingly ignored it.
Look, she was there, and while Tim Walls was out campaigning with Kamala Harris, Apparently, the lieutenant governor was then in charge, and that was Peggy Flanagan.
So there is no way she can just dispense with this as not being her problem. We have tried it their way for eight years now in this governorship, and it has gone south in a fast, fast way. It's just gone downhill. Not only the fraud, but our kids' test scores. 50% of our kids can't read at grade level or do math at grade level.
Crime. We've had these sprees of people's cars, just windshields being bashed in here in the last couple of weeks. It's ridiculous. It's been allowed. It's been enabled.
And she can't run away from that. I'm looking at these polls. They got to be encouraging. You've got three months left here. The first time you're running for office, and now in what is considered a blue state, Flanagan's got 46.5, and you're at 41% already.
Your thoughts, because you're a points person, you're a competitor, this is a lot like sports. Michelle, your thoughts about closing the gap here? I think we're going to be able to do it because our polling shows us, our internal polling shows us, when you introduce fraud into the question about who will you support, we go up by five points. And that's why we're going to continue to throttle this message, because I don't know how anyone can possibly think. That after all of this, that this woman deserves a promotion.
So we need Minnesotans across the political spectrum, and we are leading among independents by double digits. I'm really proud of that fact because we are. We're just, we're, I'm an independent thinker. I'm ready to just represent all Minnesotans. We're leading in that category, and we believe we're going to bring some disgruntled Democrats along the way.
You've seen it. You know this: that people don't like this leftward lurch the country is going in. And Peggy Flanagan has been supported by Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Ilhan Omar. She's out campaigning with Jane Fonda in Los Angeles. This represents that very socialist, extreme left wing of the party.
I don't think Minnesotans are going to stand for it.
So, the other area of your expertise, and we're going to find out, obviously, with your new shouting distance, just getting started, you've got to feel encouraged. But just to tap into other background, the other story that's raging throughout the country almost every day is the WNBA. You were there in the very beginning when Rebecca Lobo was playing and Carol Walters doing play-by-play, those empty arenas.
Now that's packed, but the amount of interest is growing. But this whole dispute on race and gender is overwhelming it to a degree.
Now you have cable viewership going up and attendance growing up. What are your thoughts about where this is heading? As Enos Cantor says, I feel like a woman until you disseminate and put in your bylaws, I'm trying out for the team. You know what? It's called the WNBA for a reason.
We had the NBA, and they decided we're going to invest in a women's league. That should be biological women. Imagine Annis Cantor Freedom going and trying out for a WNBA.
So, you're saying, Michelle, put the biological in there? It's up to the WNBA to put it in there? I think so. I mean, look, we're talking about fairness here. We're talking about Title IX and everything this was hoping to promote.
And that is fairness. That is giving women a chance to earn scholarships, a chance to go professional, a chance to win trophies, a chance to get on rosters. And if we start to take away that element, that biological reality of the differences between men and women, then we don't have a WNBA. We just have a, I don't know what we have, but it's not a women's league anymore.
Now you're seeing the IOC and you're seeing other major sports entities start to take this on. It's an easy way. It's not invasive at all. It's no worse than what we all did during COVID when we had to get COVID tests twice a week just to cover the NFL. If you want to play and make money and have opportunities as a person in the WNBA, as a woman, it should not bother you to take a cheek swap test to just prove that you've Got the chromosomes to play in that league.

The flood destroyed trails and bridges, stranding hikers. A water pipeline was also knocked out. Over 60 other people were able to evacuate safely. More thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected tomorrow, complicating rescue efforts. And a massive heat dome is scorching a large chunk of the country from the Rockies to the East Coast.
Several states have already seen days of triple-digit temperatures, and the extreme heat and humidity are only expected to continue. Over 100 nighttime heat records could be broken over the next week. The heat dome is also expected to fuel rounds of severe storms and flooding across the Northeast and Great Lakes region this week. It's going to be close. Those things tend to tighten as you get closer to the election day.
People may mistakenly vote for the wrong Daniel Sullivan. And I got to think that, yeah, there are some shenanigans because I very rarely get my middle initial wrong. I mean, birthdays, anniversaries, I have no idea when Greg Gutfeld, my boss, was born. Don't care. You know your middle initial.
I know that one. On the free press, they said something interesting. They know it's going to be a problem. If you could just pop it up, I didn't memorize it yet. But they said this.
So it looks like Dan Jay initially tried to fake even having the same middle initial of the incumbent, seemingly with the intent to confuse voters. That's an obvious bit of trickery, is rarely mentioned in the mainstream coverage, not on CNN or the AP, or like to pretend to just a curious coincidence. I'm telling you, this could be a really big deal. We'll see what happens. But, Joe, the way you broke that down, I think Emmer is going to be having a hard time holding on to this position.
I could see him being a part of the election coverage. Watch out, Emmer. Watch out. I'm gunning for you. And I know he is watching.
Now, let's talk about something you do know a lot about. Comedy. Fellow comedian, I used the term loosely, Kathy Griffin is back at it again. It's still the same old controversy from back in 2017. You mean when she held up Donald Trump's head as a decapitated person and thought that was funny?
Yeah, and she thinks she's the victim. But usually, when cancel culture has that overswing, they tend to apologize and still get punished. She's not apologizing, she took it back. Prove it to me. Let's see.
Well, I actually was a victim of that myself in 2017 when I released a controversial photo that I thought everyone else would agree with me. And I was very, very wrong. But in my career, I'm 65 now, I'd never seen anything like that. And now it's become kind of normalized. It's normal.
And I didn't get any support at the time. And that is still a painful thing for me because I believe that. A lot of people now kind of are down with the sentiment of that photo. I don't think so. Do you think people want to decapitate the president?
Look, in terms of being normalized, assassination attempts are normalized, and that's not a good thing. Even the dog in that podcast clip was saying, shut up, Captain, shut up. That is true.
Now, the other thing you're very good at, you could have won pro, but you wanted comedy, it's basketball. I'd be in the NBA right now if I didn't tell jokes. But Charles Barkley has some health advice for the president. He thinks he should lose weight. Why isn't he doing it?
Yeah. You're kidding me. Watch. There was a story in the Washington Post this weekend talking about all these doctors weighing in because he's overweight. Why wouldn't he take advantage of this?
I tell people, I'm not a fan of the President, but I don't talk bad of him because he's the President of the United States. I respect the office.
So do I. But. Uh it He should be at the leader of the forefront, trying to get healthy. First of all, he's 80 or close to it. And Anybody out there struggling with their weight.
Should get on these drugs. These drugs are a godsend. But yeah, for him to be overweight. As he gets older, it's a bad look. Do you think the President will take Roe?
I guess? I don't think so. These drugs have some psychological side effects. They make you a little apathetic sometimes. They make you calmer.
I don't think that's Trump's wheelhouse. He's going to keep doing what he's doing. I think it's working for him so far. But it was always great to see you, Joe. Thanks for having me.

Meanwhile, some NFL players are going to go play back in college. Yeah, they're going to play back in college. After they've already been in NFL training camp. Is that allowed?
Some are pushing back.
Well, that guy, that player, is represented by Drew Rosenhaus, the super agent, will be joining us next. I see trouble come my way. I've been making them a day. I know I be a gay. I know I'll be a little bit more hell.

Food deserves Pepsi. Grab a Pepsi Zero Sugar today. So the NFL to the NCAA. Is it fair to let guys who are in an NFL training camp go back into college if they get cut? Courts have opened up the door for some pro athletes, former pro athletes, to return to college, it seems.
But now the FCC and the Big Ten are looking to slam that door closed and say, no, you can't do that. And one of the players at the center of all this is Daquan Wright. He played for Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss before getting his shot of the NFL. Kiffen has since moved to LSU.
Now, Kiffin says: if the rules allow it, former pros to come back to college, he wants this guy. Watch. I think, in my opinion, knowing the information, I think it's really wrong to be critical of these kids. You know, they were granted. They were granted a fifth year by a judge.
saying that they were wronged by the NCAA. And that they should have had the fifth year all along, like all the kids moving forward will have a fifth year. Ourselves, like, Many places around the country are recruiting them.
So, is it fair? Should a player who's already had a shot in the NFL get another shot in college? Here to weigh in: is Superagent Drew Rosenhaus, who represents Daquan Wright and is in the middle of all this. You could argue the Superagent may be the most successful in the NFL right now. Drew, again, in the eye of the storm, cutting edge.
You tell me the chances of Daquan Wright. Why is he leaving the NFL and why does he want to go back to LSU?
Well, I think it's going to happen. And I think it's going to happen tomorrow or early this week, Brian. My sense is that. The courts have already ruled. that the NCAA cannot prohibit Daquan and his class of players.
Who were granted a fifth year of eligibility, who didn't know they had this fifth year of eligibility. when they declared for the NFL. And I expect him to be able to play at LSU this year.
Now, Daquan was recruited by many schools. LSU was just one of them. In fact, we had other schools offer more money than LSU. But Daquan took less because he wanted to play for Lane Kiffin, who was his coach last year at All Miss. Why is he doing this?
It's a very simple answer. Uh he is not going to make an NFL team this year. At best, he would be on a practice squad. He feels playing another year in college would be great for his development. And it will allow him to get bigger, stronger, more experienced, and take another shot at the NFL.
Oh, and by the way, he would make more money. In college, then he would have the NFL practice squads about twice as much. Wow, which by the way, you never, if I told you that 10 years ago, you'd say, no, Brian, it's impossible. There's no way. But now everything's changed so much.
You say other players are in this spot that are going to, that tried out, won the draft, didn't get drafted. And now they're about to get cut out of NFL camps as they cut down to 53. Are you telling me other clients of yours are also going to do what Daquan's trying to do? Yeah, o only in the same situation as Daquan. And let me be clear, these are players in the 2022 entering class to college.
that did not know they were going to get a fifth year that entered the draft. And subsequent to entering the draft and signing with an NFL team, they found out they had an extra year of college and they're released by a team. This second client is Wesley Besinthe. who's currently with the Kansas City Chiefs. But we expect that he will also have his contract terminated by the Chiefs.
and he would like to go and play in college as well. We haven't finalized which college yet, but it's the same scenario. as Daquan Wright. These young men did not know they had a fifth year. This was subsequent.
information, a legal decision that came out. and they'd like to exercise their legal right and finish up in college. It's crazy.
So from now on, when you go to college, it used to be: okay, you're no longer an amateur, GoPro, go cash in. How many clients of yours would you say off the top of your head? uh normally would go in the NFL draft, but because they're being paid in college decided to stick around. Oh wow, many. I'd say this NIL has changed.
the giraffe forever. Because there's no question after the third round of the NFL draft, you're going to make more money. by going back to college and doing an NIL deal.
So if we have a client who has another year of eligibility, And he's not convinced that he's going. In the first three rounds, the first two days of the draft, more than likely he's gonna go back and make more money and stay in college and then do the draft.
So NIL has absolutely encouraged so many more players. to stay in college and not go into the NFL. Drew Rosenhaus, you've done a lot of things in your career, but you just told me too. You're also recruiting high school kids, right? Because there are some high school kids in some major markets that are going to be making a lot of money.
You want to talk to that 8th grader, that 11th grader, that 12th grader, right? I do, you know, in states like Florida, where I'm based. You can sign high school players to NIL deals. You can negotiate marketing deals and endorsement deals for them. You can help them select and negotiate their deal with a college relative to the NIL deal that they're going to get.
So yes, now as an agent, we're representing guys in the NFL, in college, and in high school. And now we're actually representing players who are in the NFL, who are going back to college. It is very confusing. The good news for football fans is that this isn't an overriding rule. There aren't going to be NFL players going back to college.
This is just a very small group from the 2022 class that found out they have a fifth year. That's all it is. Andrew, real quick, they're talking about doing college sports reform in the Senate. They can go to the House and see what they can pass. The president really wants to get it done.
Would you like to see more rules and reform? No, as an NFL agent, I kind of like it the way it is. You know, it's. It is the Wild, Wild West. There's a lot of money being thrown around for these young men.
Look, I'm an American. I believe in free enterprise. I like it wide open. I think players should be able to get their value. I like the system as it is.
I don't want any restraints or any more rules. We've got enough of those in the NFL and in college. This is pretty neat the way that it is, and I'd like to keep it this way. More players for the money. I think more money for the players is my motto.
