They take down a blue blood in Kentucky 80 to 76. Greg Campi is their head coach. He has been the head coach at Oakland since 1984, and he's kind enough to join us right now on the Zach Gelb show on CBS Sports Radio. Coach, I would say, how are you doing?

But I think I know the answer to that one. So let me just say congratulations on a marvelous victory. Yeah, I can't get much better than this, right? It's been an unbelievable evening. Just a great game. Our kids played an outstanding basketball game.

They did what they had to do to win. And the only thing I don't understand is I see your Kansas City and San Francisco hats. Shouldn't there be an Oakland hat there today?

Hundred percent. You know, we're at the Super Bowl, so we bring back the big hats. I will gladly display an Oakland hat, and everyone now gets to be familiar with your story and your team story.

You get all this publicity right now. Just wondering, with it being less than 24 hours since the victory, just how do you kind of process it through all this euphoria that your guys are experiencing right now? Well, they've got to understand that, you know, put it aside and get ready. They're 40 minutes away from a Sweet 16, which nobody had that on their dance card, you know, a week ago, let alone six months ago when we started. And they're the only ones that thought they could do it.

And now they got 40 minutes to do it. So we've got to put this aside and understand that unless we get to a Final Four, this is probably the greatest win in school history. So, you know, we'll hold on to that, come back to it. But right now we've got to prepare for NC State. And I think our kids have done that very well, very well. And our staff is working really hard, too. I'll tell you, last night when you guys were doing the interview after the game on the court, right away when Jack Oakey heard you guys be referred to as a Cinderella, I just saw that fire in his eyes and he looked disgusted that people were calling you a Cinderella. I've talked to a lot of coaches, a lot of players when they're a part of these historical upsets.

Just where does that belief in the team really derive from and that passion and that fire? Because there was a certain look that you guys had not only before the game, but then after the game as well. Well, I think it goes to the non-league schedule we played. You know, we really, really challenged ourselves with the top 10-15 schedule in the country. Ohio State, Illinois, Michigan State, Dayton, Xavier all on the road. And we should have wanted Ohio State.

We could have wanted Illinois. And we did win at Xavier. And that, you know, that iron sharpens iron idea. You know, they just believe they're good. They believe they can play with anybody and they believe they can beat anybody. And there was never any doubt last night in their minds we were going to win the game. You know, and every time out, you know, it was there. The confidence and belief that they could win.

And that's why they probably did win because they kept that mindset and they made big play after big play. Now, they showed a shot of your locker room after the game. And usually you see the coach get just drenched in water and there's a water fight.

You guys are all sitting down and I thought you were getting ready to prepare for a game in like 15 minutes. But what was that actual scene like in the locker room? Was it as real as the way that it was portrayed on social media?

Yeah, it really was. And that's why I was so happy, because when I went in there, I, you know, you see in the NCAA tournament, the coaches dancing. And the only time it got a little bit over the top was when they punched their ticket. You know, they put their name in the bracket. I actually left. I didn't get to see it happen.

But I heard it got kind of loud in there when they did that. But other than that, they went about their business. They believed they could win and they didn't act like they won the national championship. They acted like they get to play again on Saturday. And that made me feel fairly confident that I can get them ready in two days because you get to win like that.

There's usually repercussions in the next game. And we understand that this great team, if we lose the next game, will never get to play again. So hopefully they'll be ready and we'll have our best effort. Win or lose, we just want to have our best effort.

Coach Greg Campy here with us. I respect, you know, understanding, right, there's a next game and you got to be wired to get ready for the next game. But has it hit you yet with how long you've been at this school and what you guys accomplished last night? Like, does last night feel real yet or does it still feel as if you're living in a dream?

No, it's crazy how good it feels and just the excitement. But it also, I don't want to say, hey, this is it. You know, I want to keep coaching this team and I'd love to get them to a Sweet 16. I'd love to be part of that. And, you know, we just got to win one more game to do it. So we're grinding, man. We're grinding. We're trying to get ready for NC State and all the challenges that they bring. The story last night of Jack Golke, it gets told a little bit in the broadcast and he had a historical evening.

Your program had an historical evening. How'd you even find this kid with him playing a D2 and then he gets to your program? We also saw the stats before the game and he was just unconscious last night. So tell me about how you got him to your program and a little bit of the background story there. We've seen it before from him.

It wasn't the first time that he's gone off like that. But his Division 2 coach happened to be a really good friend of mine and called me on the phone and said, I got this kid that's got a sixth year because of COVID and he wants to be a Division 1 player. He was a great player for me, an unbelievable shooter, and I know that you value that. And I also know that you don't coach defense, so he can't guard anybody so you can figure out a way to use him. So, you know, I go, yeah, you're probably right. And so I said, OK, if you think he's that good, I'll take him. And boy, that was the smartest move I've made in a long time. That scene last night where you guys are getting interviewed afterwards and then you're walking off the court, just what does that moment mean to see a player like that, like you, the individuality for you?

I know that you're not really going to lay into that, but to see your players go through that, just how do you kind of process what that means? I kind of whispered to him, isn't this what you came here for? You know, and he kind of hugged me and said, hell yeah, you know, this is what it's all about. And I just told him I was happy for him, but let's go get one more. And, you know, he made that statement, we're not Cinderella.

And that's why, I mean, he wants the world to know that Cinderella turns into a pumpkin at midnight. We're not going to do that. We're going to play. And if we lose, we lose. But it's not because we were Cinderella. I don't know if previous history at all matters, but with how many great runs that we've seen, whether it was in the early 2000s with George Mason, we've seen VCU last year, right?

Florida Atlantic. And as you said, people go look at your schedule. Your schedule was so tough earlier on in the season and right out of the gate.

So maybe this shouldn't shock people because games like that get you ready for this time of the year. But with how many upsets we've seen, even though you guys don't view yourself as Cinderella, does that give you guys a little bit more confidence or do we make too much of that, you know, in the media? No, I mean, we say, why not us? You know, George Mason did it. Loyola did it. VCU did it.

Why not us? You know, but we got to take it one at a time, too. You got to grind through it just like you grind grind it through the season.

I think a lot of schools, a lot of teams lose in the postseason because they go about it differently. And, you know, you just spent five months grinding. So let's keep grinding. By the way, they said on the broadcast last night, last week, when you do your local radio show, they gave you some some free French fries. I think they should comp the entire meal this time around, coach, after what you guys just did. Well, they damn well better, I'll tell you that.

And, you know, at least put a sub with it or something. I got to drink some fries last night, so we'll see. Now, for everyone starting to understand what your program is, and you've been at this at this university since 1984, what do you want people to know about Oakland and what do you want people to know about this squad from this year's team in 2023, 2024? Well, I think they showed everybody what they are, a group of great kids that were humble. They won the right way. They didn't act like idiots. You know, when they won, they they acted like they'd been there before.

Right. And yeah, they did. They just play hard and they played smart. And we have a saying here, the smart take from the strong.

And maybe that happened last night. You know, I just think we played really smart. And then the other thing is our school is a fantastic school and we just want the name out there.

And a lot of great things, you know, about our school that we'd want the world to know. So maybe a couple more wins will keep us in the spotlight for a while. Are you definitely coming back next year, Coach?

I know that you never know when you're going to walk away. And, you know, you're 68 years old, turned 69 in December. You've been there since 84. Is this still, you know, really exciting and energetic for you?

Or do you kind of start to say, hmm, maybe this would be a good way to wrap things up? No, if you can give me a team like these guys every year, I'll go another another 10 years or so. I mean, this has been maybe one of the most fun years I've ever had. I love this group of kids. They love each other. And I know that's a funny word to use, but it's true.

I mean, they just there's such a respect among each one of them. And it's made it so easy for me to coach it. This has added years to my coaching career. I'm sure I've got three years left on my contract. Maybe I can talk them into two more now that we've won a little bit. I think it's an easy extension to negotiate.

I'm not your agent, but I think this would be easy to get a little bit more money and get some more years on that deal. Greg Campi, wrap it up with the Oakland coach. Last night, they take down Kentucky. What type of team did you think that you had before the start of the season? Like, I'm not going to say if I came to you for the start of the season. And, you know, I said to you that you guys would be in the round of 32. But what type of squad did you think you guys have?

Well, we went to Italy this summer and it was a really good trip. But we showed some works, you know, we showed some signs of there's some things we got to get better at. And I just think defensively we grew as a team in that zone. We, you know, when you bring in new players every year like it is nowadays, you know, I brought seven new guys in this year.

But fortunately, I had four or five that have been here forever that could help teach that zone. As the season went on, we grew defensively to become, I think, maybe the best defensive team I've ever had. And I think it proved it last night the way we guarded Kentucky. We out-rebounded Kentucky when they were giants, you know, three seven-footers.

We have three five-footers maybe, you know. It was a hell of a defensive clinic for us last night. So, I just think that as we got better defensively and we played those good teams, beat Xavier, we believed that, you know, this team could really do something special and now they are.

Last thing I'll ask you, a little early preview. We know tomorrow evening you guys will take stage once again against NC State. They've been hot, you know, five wins in five days in the ACC tournament last night. They dominated wire-to-wire up against Texas Tech. What's the early scouting report when you take a look at your opponent coming up tomorrow evening? Well, we're going to have to play a different game than we played against Kentucky.

You know, Kentucky was a perimeter-oriented, shoot the three best in the country, three-point percentage. Keep the pace slow. Don't let them get it into a pickup game.

Don't let them beat you up and down the floor. With NC State, it's probably the other way. They've got tremendous post players. They score the ball in there. They're huge, huge. But we got to speed the pace up tomorrow. It's just going to be different tomorrow because this is their seventh game in 11 days or 10 days. And somewhere along the line, they got to be human and that's got to kick in.

And maybe they can't make jump shots or something. Was there a message that you got after the game, a text or a phone call that meant a little bit more to you, blown away that this person was reaching out or talking about your program, just wondering? There were so many. I've been around so long.

I know so many people. A lot of the old guys reached out. Roy Williams called me. Steve Fisher called me.

There's a lot of the older guys that were just happy that Greg Campi got a moment in the tournament like that, I think. They had some great, great messages. I'm blessed to have been around this long and know all these people and that they would take a moment to talk to me. Coach, we appreciate you taking a moment with us today to talk about your program and the incredible victory last night. Good luck coming up tomorrow evening. Thanks so much. Thank you for having Oakland on.

I really appreciate it. You got it. We'll make sure we'll get that hat in the studio as well. It's a bad job out of us. There he is.

Greg Campi joining us on the show. Just what an unbelievable story. There's always a story each and every year in March Madness when no one, and I mean no one, is talking about a school.

And then the next thing you know, boom, viral sensation. And, you know, sometimes, and usually happens with a younger coach, right, at a smaller program, you know, just grinds it away, put in the work. He's been here since 1984. Think about that.

1984. He's been at Oakland. And to get that moment more than well-reserved, you see the just how good they were. Like, this wasn't, oh, they went on just a great run and they stole the game from Kentucky. They played better the entire game than Kentucky. Like, you look at NC State when they beat Texas, they were better from start to finish. And last night, they were better. The game was still right there for the taking at the end, and he said it. Defensively with that zone, they were remarkable. But then, to see the way that, because at first when you get hot from outside, you just think that's going to go through the entire game. But then how they bullied Kentucky in the post, like Lapis. Steve Lapis doing the game, he pointed that out. He goes, it's one thing when you're on from three or you're on from the perimeter, but then how you start to dominate the paint, it's a heck of a job. Just a heck of a job. And they're the team. Like, we've seen this, right? Shock is smart.

Dusty May. There's always a team that people gravitate towards. Jim Lara, like every year, no one was talking about VCU. No one was talking about George Mason. No one was talking about FAU.

Andy Enfield. Florida Gulf Coast. That was the one. Florida Gulf Coast, it only got to the Sweet 16, but still, that was remarkable. That was one of the most exciting runs that we've seen, just because, yeah, they were just so fun.

They were awesome. And that propelled them to USC. Yeah, and you see it happen.

Loyola Chicago, Port of Mosier. And then he was able to replicate it. After you go final four a few years later, you get to a Sweet 16. Remember, they beat Illinois with Kofi Coburn in the round to 32 to get to the Sweet 16. It just happens.

And now we'll see how far they can take it. But here's the thing. Like in recent years, I've had a chance to talk to the head coach at UMBC when a 16 beat a one. You know, I had a chance to talk to Shaheen Holloway at St. Peter's when a 15 beat a two in Kentucky. I've had an opportunity last year to talk to Tobin Anderson after a 16 beat a one. There's a difference in saying my guys believe.

We thought we could win. But then you go, okay, that's one thing to say when you win. But where there's subtle hints of it. And when you have the interview going down after the game last night. And I'm pretty sure it was Evan Washburn who just mentioned the word Cinderella. And I noticed this. It was in the first question of the interview.

And the first question I think was to Greg Campi. The moment that Jack Golke heard the word Cinderella. Or underdog or upset. He was furious, furious. His face told the whole damn story. And then they followed it up at the end and he grabbed the microphone.

He said, we're not a Cinderella. I've seen that in the tournament. With Florida Gulf Coast, Team Samford just mentioned. Dunk City coming to Arlington.

Boom. Right in the press conference table. Tobin Anderson calling his shot last year in the locker room. Shaheen Holloway having Kobe Bryant type of vibe like job not done yet. We've seen it with these guys. And last night, whether it was from Golke or whether it was in like, I don't know if you guys caught this.

In the locker room after the game, they show the video. And he even talked about it. I'm expecting euphoria. I'm expecting mayhem, chaos. Like, this guy's been the head coach, dammit, since 1984.

1984. And he gets his moment. I'm expecting this to be a party in the locker room. I said this the other day.

I forgot what we were talking about. I win a game like that. I'm doing the worm. I'm doing the Macarena.

I'm having a party. I'm going nuts. Nuts. Bonkers. Euphoria.

All over the place. That team set it up like they're holding up to go out and play a game in five minutes. Just a certain swagger.

Just a certain confidence. And you have a bunch of underdogs on that team. And what did Jeff Stoutland say this? Hungry dogs run faster. Jason Kelce always gives that line, too.

That's a hungry dog. And man, did they run fast last night. Not only did they run fast. They embarrassed Kentucky because Kentucky with that team and what their potential was, even how good Oakland played. Kentucky mentally got fried by Oakland.

When you see uncharacteristic mistakes, what can you correlate that to? Great defense. And that's why I thought it was funny when he's telling the story about how he got the player Jack there, Golke, how he's like, so the coach called. He's like, Oh, your team's on play defense. I'll fit right in. I don't get a little tongue in cheek. But the story of that game was three point shooting and then the defense.

But really, the defense is the true reason why they won the game. Coming on back, Zach Gilb show CBS Sports Radio. Hey, Mel, Brian here. Got to work from home today because the whole family caught a nasty.

That's BetterHelp H-E-L-P dot com slash grow. All right. Zach Gelb shows CBS Sports Radio. Let me give you some scores of these games right now that are going on in March Madness. The finals from today. Man, New Mexico was one of those trendy picks.

I think a lot of people are picking New Mexico. McNeese. That was a lot of those popular upsets. McNeese just got destroyed last night and you did see New Mexico pretty much get manhandled today by Clemson 77 to 56.

I saw Danny Hurley. His team was up 52 to 19 at halftime. So I love, absolutely love this level of being a psycho as a coach. Like I've seen it from Saban. Remember when Saban's up like 30 points in a national championship game? Four minutes left and he's throwing his headsets, breaking clipboards. So Jeff Borzella, who covers college basketball for ESPN, he said this was the Hurley quote at halftime. We've got to grow up a little bit.

The last couple of minutes I didn't like. Coach, it teams up 52 to 19 at halftime, but that's the heart of a champion. That's something that I love. And Danny Hurley is about to become, he's on the precipice of becoming the face of college basketball. And he wins back to back national championships.

He's going to be the most popular name in the sport if he's not already. And I believe they're going on a run like 2018 Nova where it's just blow everybody out and just dominate everybody. Marquette, ugly first half. Cola comes back 18.6 rebounds, 11 assists, 87 to 69. They beat Western Kentucky. Baylor dominates Colgate 92 to 67.

San Diego State survives against UAB 69-65 Northwestern. They were up, then they choked it. Florida Atlantic goes to line up two at the end of regulation.

So one and one. They missed the first. Northwestern drives to the hole, gets the deuce. And then John L Davis, who was like one of their stars last year in that great NCAA tournament run. Man, he got the ball, like was just waiting, waiting, waiting, then jacked up a three pointer.

It was no good. I don't understand the waiting there. And then in the extra session, free basketball 19 to 17 Northwestern out duels Florida Atlantic to win 77 to 65. And currently right now, you've got a good first half between Auburn and Yale. There's under a minute left in the first. Auburn up 38 to 34. You've got a good first half between seventh seed Florida, tenth seed Colorado.

Buffalo's did win the first four. And now they have Florida here. Florida is up 42 to 41. And then coming up at about an hour from now, you've got A&M, Nebraska. And later this evening, Vermont Duke, Grambling Purdue, Charleston, Alabama.

Longwood, Houston, James Madison and Wisconsin, TCU, Utah State and then Grand Canyon. Going up against St. Mary's. I'm actually really excited for that Grand Canyon St. Mary's game. Really excited. And that line six and a half.

I have one gambling play this evening. I made plus the six and a half points with Grand Canyon. I am optimistic about Grand Canyon with Bryce Drew.

And remember, he had that game winning shot with Valpo all those years ago. But St. Mary's is a heck of a team. And I give credit yesterday to Gonzaga.

A lot of people are picking Gonzaga to go down and Gonzaga is getting very disrespected. And, you know, I have to give credit to as well. Got to give credit to David Sheppard. Shep, the good Sheppard. Shep yesterday had a Gonzaga player on. Brian Greg, Ben Greg and Ben Greg pretty much voice how, yeah, they knew how everyone was picking McNeese.

And even though they were a five seed, it felt like Gonzaga was getting disrespected and that they were the underdog. So it was good conversation that Shep did have with Ben Greg of the Gonzaga basketball team has been there for the last few years. And you know what? I think there's a little breaking news to Shep yesterday. You don't have to press the sounder, Stu. Stu was like, oh, we got actual breaking news. Shep yesterday, and I guess we've had a little kerfuffle the last month, month and a half or so, like some radio fun.

Trust me, I'll win that fight. Don't you worry. But Shep, who's been working his tail off here, I'll give him credit. He was filming for part this week and he's doing all these interviews.

Reminded me a lot like me, even though Shep's older than me. Where I was doing the weekend overnight. So I come in March Madness and just stay here for about like 14 hours and then go do the show.

From 2 to 6 a.m. Eastern Time. Shep was working like a dog this week. And he was here for a while, just taping, taping, taping, taping interviews when he was hosting 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Eastern Time. So I'll give a little compliment to Shep, and he was waiting outside the studio for me. Thought he was going to throw some things at me. But he's waiting outside the studio for me the other day and he's showing me a Culpa.

And we talked for about 30 minutes. So here's what I'll say. I'm fine with David Shephard. I've always liked Shep.

He got ugly for the last month. I may have to, since I'm a team player. You know, I don't want to sound like Jamie Urdahl the other day when she was going into, I don't want to say labor because I don't want to speak out of term. But she's leaving GMF to go have the birth of her child. And then they're flying to, they're moving the studios from New York to California, to L.A. And she was saying how she just always wanted to be a good point guard. Well on this show, I am a point guard.

But I'm also a scoring point guard. So I have to run this by Samta and Stu. And we could talk off air. You know, just maybe, maybe, maybe. And he would have to come in studio.

This would not be like over the phone or via Zoom. Samta's already shaking his head no. But maybe from the NBA playoffs, we do one guest spot with Shep. That's what I'm offering.

That's what I'm proposing. Samta, you're saying no? You're shaking your head no? Like I said, until he goes back on his Mike Tyson take that he can beat Mike Tyson in a fight if he trained for a year. Until he goes back on that take, he doesn't belong behind the microphone because it's so stupid that it doesn't deserve any kind of consideration.

I love Shep. I think he's good on the air. He knows the NBA. I legitimately think he would be a decent NBA guest to talk about the playoffs. But that take is so stupid that I can't, in good conscience, agree to have him grace these airways. Well, the conversation about it.

Yeah, I mean, we could talk about it. If he's willing to come on and say, you know what, I realized it. There's no chance I could ever even last longer than a minute in the ring with Mike Tyson no matter how long I train for. Yeah, he won't back down on it. I even gave him the out. I said, listen, man, you know what?

If you train for a year and gain 30 pounds of muscle in that year, then maybe you can last a minute. He goes, no, no, no, definitely more than that. He's like, I can definitely take him the distance. And I was trying to give him the out. He doesn't want to take it. Ike, do you have to ruin this moment?

Yes! Can't you be a good teammate and just say yes? We'll bring him in the studio. No, that take is that bad. Shep and I, it's a terrible take. We all know that. It's laughable. But Shep and I had a good moment, right?

Little camaraderie building here in 345 Hudson Street. And then Sampter, grouchy old Sampter, just has to basically throw gasoline on the fire and try to reignite the place down. I've heard some bad, bad takes from Ryan Hickey. Do me a favor. Do me a favor. I'm done having your opinions on this.

Just for one second. Okay. I said we are checks and balances here.

Okay. So you vetoed bringing Shep in as an in-studio guest. I think Shep should be an in-studio guest one time, in-studio only, not via Zoom, not via phone, in-studio. Where we have a buzzer on him in case if he goes just speaking too long and we just have a little buzz. That actual buzzer attached him like a touve style.

But I'm just saying like a little buzz that we play on the air to basically get him to shut up and reel him back in. So Sampter has said no. I've said yes. Stu, break the tie. You down?

I'm down. I don't think the Mike Tyson take has anything to do with the NBA, so why not? Gotcha. So that's two against one. I'm just being fair here. Hey, if you want somebody on the air who thinks that he can take Mike Tyson in a boxing match, you go for it, man. I'll step out during that segment.

I don't believe that's true, obviously, but I'm just saying. This is, we had a nice little conversation. And like I said, I like Shep. I like him.

Doesn't sound like it. No, I like him. You know, I'm moving to a new town that apparently he grew up in. So he's giving me all this information about this town that I'm moving to.

I'm very excited. Did you sign, by the way, already for this new house? Oh, yeah. Did you know that Shep used to live there? You know, actually, you know how I found out when he went on the rant after I went on the rant about his Tyson stuff? He talked about, I grew up with the mean streets of North Stanford.

It's like, dude, come on now. No, but I respect the work ethic of David Shep for the last 48 hours, but very impressive. Does Kentucky need to buy out John Calipari nearly $34 million and fire him after losing to Oakland? I usually would not advocate to fire John Calipari. I'm a huge John Calipari fan.

I think it's time to move on. I think you need a new voice in there, and I think you need to get Kentucky back to being a national championship contender. Cal has been really good there, won a national championship. We know everywhere Cal goes, UMass, talk about college. UMass Memphis, they always go far, they always win, gets this big blue blood job at Kentucky, has been there for a while, has been successful. But with how it's gone down the last four years, missing the tourney, losing to St. Peter's, advancing one time to the round of 32, and last night, you end up losing to Oakland, I think it's time to start the new era and get a new voice and bring in and write a new chapter of Kentucky basketball. So I would get rid of him, returns in that poll right now, 62.4%, say fire John Calipari, 37.6% to say bring him back.

So what are your thoughts on that, 855-212-4CBS, 855-212-4227. Alrighty, real quickly, do we have the Jay Wright audio? Let's do this actually, we'll tease it.

I want to play the Jay Wright audio on the other side. Jay Wright made a very good point about John Calipari. And also we'll rehash the conversation about Joe Klatt saying the Dolphins maybe need to move on from two and draft Michael Penix Jr. Who are some teams that need to maybe start thinking about moving on from their quarterback? We'll take time first, here he is, the Ackman, Rich Ackerman. It's time to answer Ask the Pro's question of the day brought to you by O'Reilly Auto Parts. Ethan in Connecticut says Zach, out of all the Cinderella's that won yesterday, who do you have the most confidence in advancing to the Sweet 16? You can submit a question by tweeting at CBS Sports Radio, at Zach Elbe's and the hashtag Ask the Pro's.

You can think O'Reilly Auto Parts for all your car care needs, get guaranteed low prices and excellent customer service from the professional parts people at O'Reilly Auto Parts. Good question there from Ethan. So this is just out of yesterday. So when we look at yesterday's NCAA tournament games and technically who does qualify as an upset. Obviously you have Oakland taking care of Kentucky 80 to 76. And after that you had Duquesne beating BYU 71 to 67. Oregon taking care of business against South Carolina 87 to 73. NC State beating Texas Tech 80 to 67. And in terms of other upsets technically Michigan State taking care of Mississippi State 69 to 51. So if I had to then tell you which upset team was going to win the next game. Northwestern is not going to beat UConn. You know if I'm sitting here on Monday and they're using that as a clip at all takes exposed.

That's fine by me. I'll be shocked though. So I'm not going Northwestern over UConn. Duquesne against Illinois possibility. But I'm going to trust Brad Underwood. I'm going to trust Brad Underwood to get the job done. I just love the way that they competed yesterday especially down the stretch when that game was getting close.

And it looked like maybe it wasn't going to go their way the final 10 minutes they did a sensational job. As much as I like Tom Izzo. I like Armando Baycott and R.J. Davis I think they have enough to take care of business up against or for UNC to take care of business up against Michigan State. So then that leaves me with Oregon Crayton. I'm not taking Oregon.

Dan Altman has done a great job right at Oregon. Never lost an opening round of the NCAA tournament. But Crayton I like them going to the Final Four which means I'll probably get upset because if I like a team going to the Final Four they usually lose. So that leaves with NC State and Oakland. I'm going to take NC State here. Now they're not the underdog against Oakland but they weren't. The question was which Cinderella team has the best chance to win. I know that we just we had both coaches on tonight from NC State and Oakland and Oakland is wired in they're confident.

They didn't really celebrate all that much last night. But what NC State has done in the five games in five days to just get there and then they just blew the brakes off Texas Tech. I'm going to go with NC State especially with their big fella down low to get the job done up against Oakland. I think that's a sloppy sloppy kind of game. We're both these teams of the runs that they've been on but but I'll end up taking NC State. So that's what I'll end up going with. I guess isn't that the cop out answer.

If you take NC State or Oakland because just because it's an 11-14 matchup. Well we just talked to Campi they're not a Cinderella so they can't be the one. Yeah that's a good point. Yeah they're not a Cinderella. Does that annoy you? Yeah so therefore if NC State wins that's a huge upset. Wait wait I sense that you're annoyed.

No I love that. No no no no I love when these guys come in and there's there's fake toughness and then there's like you said there's real confidence. There was genuine. And this team has legit confidence that they're a good enough team to compete with with these teams.

No I don't think that this is you know lip service. I think this is a team that legitimately thinks that and knows that they're good enough to compete with some of the big boys. So I'll play the Jay Wright audio in just a second about Kentucky and Oakland from last night and the future of Coach Cal. I have a I felt like I've been saying this a lot this week. I have a pet peeve. I don't know maybe it's because Stu was out and it's like a change environment. And all three of the guys that filled it or the two guys that filled it over three days Chris Hess and Ryan Botcher did a sensational job.

But maybe I was like a little bit more alert this week without having our safety blanket of Stuart Kovacs. So I've revealed a lot of pet peeves I feel like this week. This one's got it. If it's on the top of the list it's got to be close to the top of the list. I hate when journalists tease a story like it's not your story but you're saying you're hearing a big bombshell story coming.

It drives me bonkers. Like I understand the journalists may have heard this story and therefore you don't want to reveal someone else's work. But don't then just dangle the carrot on a Friday when the LSU women's basketball team currently has five minutes and 55 seconds left.

Up against Rice where LSU is up 57 to 46 as defending champs. And don't just dangle a carrot out there saying oh big bombshell story coming. And it may be a big bombshell story and maybe it's something we got to react to maybe it's something serious or maybe it's nothing. I don't know.

I don't know what the story is about. But Pat 40 just tweeted this out. Hearing some buzz about a big Washington Post story in the works on LSU's women's head coach Kim Mulkey potentially next week wagons being circled etc.

That drives me crazy. Because now you basically have have lowered the bait and you're just waiting for the Washington Post to then be the shark that takes the bait and actually give us the substance of this. And Pat 40, he doesn't work at the Washington Post, senior writer at Sports Illustrated. So that sold his bio. Didn't Sports Illustrated just fold though? But I guess they're still putting out content so I don't know if he still actively writes for them or not. But he's not writing at the Washington Post unless there's something else. Santa, this drives me bonkers.

It really does. Like it may be a serious story. I'm not ignoring the fact. But let the Washington Post be the people that put this out there and don't just kind of be a gossiping person at the popular kids table in the high school cafeteria like oh I'm hearing something about this lady or I'm hearing something about this guy. Oh big story coming. Don't just kind of tease us here. That annoys me. It's not about teasing.

Listen, I like Pat 40. But if it's that serious, let's say if it's that serious, then we shouldn't be like teasing and just throwing this thing out there. But we don't know if it's serious. It could be a story about some great work that she did or a contract situation.

It could be something very serious and it could be a terrible thing that happened. We don't know. So the way he phrased it, I'm hearing some buzz. First of all, that third party, you know, if that's a third party like potential.

He knows. Sure, but like I'm hearing some buzz about a story in the works and the wagons are being circled. There's a lot of ifs, ands or buts in that in that sentence. Let's not be naive here. And what I'm saying is Kim Mulkey is not popular. She's not.

And a lot of people in the media do not like Kim Mulkey. Right or wrong, politics or not, whatever. When Pat Fordy puts out there hearing some buzz about a big Washington Post story in the works on LSU women's coach Kim Mulkey. I hope it's nothing with health or anything like that, obviously. But it's it's got to be something scandalous.

I would think has to be something scandalous. Right. Knowing Pat, I'm assuming that, you know, I don't know, Pat. I know Pat from, you know, doing shows. I don't know him personally, but I've I've had him in studios. I've had him on many shows. I've texted with him. I've spoken to him a variety of times. I don't know him personally, but I know a lot about him.

I know his daughter swam D1 in the Olympics, won a gold medal. Oh, really? Oh, yeah.

So, Pat, Pat is a historic journalist. Get him on the phone. Let me know. What's up?

Get him on the phone. Now we got two and a half minutes left. Yeah. But so he's not an irresponsible journalist.

I know that for sure. But this tweet feels irresponsible because there's so many ifs and question marks. Is it a negative story? Is it a positive story? Is it about her health? Is it about something that she did illegal? We have no idea. And to put it out there the way she he did put so many questions out there that it's almost unfair.

Now, listen, if it was a really, really bad story about Kimball Key, then maybe she deserves to have a lot of negativity for the next few days. But we don't know. Sure.

No idea. But wait until the story comes out or at least tease something. No, you got to tell us something. Don't just say something's going to happen. Tell me what's going to happen or give a teaser of like, you know, a really negative bombshell report about Kimball Key.

That's going to maybe cost her her job, something that we know something is coming down the line that's going to be negative. I'm good with Pat 40. Let me play Jay Wright before we get on out of here. This is Jay Wright on CBS last night saying Cal needs to change Kentucky. The era of taking these young freshmen and trying to play against older players is over.

He did it. I think he did a phenomenal job with these guys all year, getting them to be as successful as they were. You can see they're playing against grown men. The guys on Kentucky will be far better pros than any of these guys on Oakland or any of these guys in the tournament. But they're not as good college basketball players. It's at this point in their career, they're not as disciplined yet as the guys from Oakland. And it's not Cal's fault. It's their 18 years old and they're in this era where everyone's telling them how great they are. Just show up in college and you're going to win. It doesn't happen that way.

And the more the guys stay in college because of NIL, it's going to be tougher for young teams like this to be successful. That's the nicest way that you'll hear a coach of Jay Wright stature kind of say to Cal, hey, you got to change things. It is his fault because this is his system by design.

This is how he operates things. Seth Greenberg, who was also on first take today, said about Cal and he's friendly with Cal. He's been behind the curve. Swaggy Cal needs to go. Old school Cal needs to come back with old school Cal.

You defended, you rebounded, you were physical, you were tough. That's John Calipari in his early Kentucky years. So a lot of confidants of John Calipari having some criticism of him today. We'll see if anything changes.

I don't think it will. And therefore, that's why I think you need to dismiss John Calipari, who still could be a very good coach. But just to bring in a new era to Kentucky basketball. Early in the show, Joe Klatt said the Dolphins should potentially draft Michael Penix Jr. to set up a replacement for Tua. There are some other teams, just real quickly, that I think we'll get into this more next week, where maybe they draft a quarterback this year that have a quarterback in place. Seahawks could be one. Jets maybe for the future replacement of Aaron Rodgers. Saints, no one's buying Derek Carr.

And then I think this one is potentially fun, too. How about the Cowboys? Talk about the Tua situation. Similar with Dak, final year of a contract.

Maybe that's the way that it goes down, too. Big thanks to Shaq Barrett, Kevin Keats, and Greg Campi. Each and every one of you as well.
