And we want to say, just right off of the bat, for all of the family, the friends, the military brothers and sisters who have lost those who have given everything, we want to say thank you.
And this weekend, we remember, we will never forget. Folks, I come to you today, and earlier in the week, I was very excited to be here, and I still am. It's always an honor to be in this chair, but I. I I come today 24 hours Later, with even more questions than I had before, over what happened at Rob Elementary School in Uvalde. Texas.
And the shooting, which has left 19 children dead, two teachers dead, and several others injured, including. Heroic Officers Including the Border Patrol tactical unit members who went in and got the job done very quickly. I have so many more questions, and these questions have actually now been generated by By law enforcement themselves. Down in South Texas. And I want to preface this as we go forward: that as the morning goes on, there will be a press conference in Uvalde, Texas, and we will be carrying some of the sounds from that later this morning.
We are going to stay on top of that. This is the place to be. To hear more on what has been going on in Uvalde, Texas. And It's been 24 hours, and we've already seen some of the narrative. be reeled back in Because if you'll remember, we were told.
That there was armed security in some form, whether it be from the independent school district or from Uvalde police. That were there on campus. And had challenged the 18-year-old shooter. I will not say his name. He does not get that gift from me.
I will not encourage others to say that name either. But we were told that there was a police officer or an armed security guard, or that there was independent school district police on site.
Well then we were told then to listen in to the police and law enforcement then gave us this big curve ball, Josh, with cut two. It was reported. that a school district police officer confronted The suspect gave us make an entry. Not accurate. He walked in unrestructed initially.
So, from the grandmother's house to the barbage to the school, into the school. He was not confronted by anybody. to clear the record on that. Four minutes later. Law enforcement are coming in.
to solve this problem. Just want to clear that up. That's very important. It is very important and How did we not know this before? Do you know why we didn't know this before?
Because we had. An avalanche of video evidence come in from Witnesses that showed the eighteen-year-old assailant stroll into the school. without getting any resistance whatsoever. It was the people. That showed That was not the case, that he walked straight in.
And I've scribbled down a timeline on my notepad. And I've been staring at this, I've been scratching my head. As I look at this, And the questions just continue to pop up one after another.
Now, if you'll recall. The shooter shot his grandmother in the face. And what we've been told is he took her truck. and then drove it To the school Essentially ditched it. Saw people, saw two people at a funeral home across the street from the school.
At approximately 11.28 on that fateful day, Fired shots at them. At this point, you have eyewitnesses. If you're being shot at, you know. You're being shot at. Perhaps you see the gunman.
You likely hear the gunfire. Heck, you may even hear the bullets whiz by or strike something nearby.
So at 1128 He's firing gunshots. At the funeral home. He does not enter the building. For another 12 Minutes. He's outside, he's fired shots at the school.
So there is a 12-minute lag time before he finally strolls in. And the video shows that he did. He just went in and unlocked the door. My first question is If there's gunshots. And you've got to know that there's gunshots.
You're going to hear gunshots from across the street. Why isn't every single door on that school Locked. I know it's near the end of the school year. It's a lovely day outside. But as we see in the video, we don't see kids outside, they are actually inside.
Why isn't every door triple checked to make sure That it is A closed And B that it is locked. You have a 12-minute window. That is an eternity. You ask any active shooter expert, and they will tell you if it is not a negotiation situation, if there is an active shooter that is going in to spray bullets. It's typically over with in a couple of minutes.
It's done. This guy, you had a 12-minute head start to batten down the hatches on Robb Elementary School. He then goes in. And then he is able. To find an unlocked classroom door and he goes into the classroom.
And we're now seeing the horror stories. Where the shooter is now? It's been said by witnesses that he told the teacher goodbye and then shot and killed one of the teachers. Also, one of the students in the classroom smeared blood on her body so that she could pretend that she was dead and her life Because of that quick thinking. was actually spared.
But between 1128 and 1140 This guy has free run of the place outside of the school building and then walks inside. Four minutes later We find out that police A mixture. of police law enforcement go inside the building. It's then at that point you have not only police on the inside. But you've got police on the outside as well.
And let me tell you, we've got something to talk about about the police on the outside of the school building as well, folks. And this story, it's already a horrific American nightmare. And it only gets worse the more details that come out. But we start with a 12-minute lag time before the shooter even goes inside. And coming up, I've got more questions.
And this is going to lead to maybe the biggest question of all. of who is responsible How high up the totem pole in law enforcement does this go? For all of this happening. At the school. And I'll tell you why I think there is some responsibility that has to be bared by law enforcement somewhere in Texas.
How high up? That may be up for debate, but there's no debating that this could have been. Better handled. We'll talk about this. We're just getting started.

Welcome back, Tim Van Horton for Todd Starnes on this Friday. Our phone number 844747-8868, ToddStarnes.com. We have a bit of breaking news. The press conference has been going on in Uvalde, Texas, and we do have a bit of breaking news. An update: Colonel Stephen McCraw briefly noted there was a report out earlier today that the shooter who turned 18 and killed 19 inside the elementary school, 19 kids and two kids.
He said in the press conference, he noted that there was a report out earlier that two middle school kids had been arrested four years prior for planning a shooting in 2022. He says that the killer in This instance from this week was not one of those two that were arrested back in 2018. We're going to go live now to the press conference. This is Colonel Stephen McCraw, Director of Texas Public Department of Safety. To go ahead and breach the door and take on the subject at that point.
That was the decision, that was the thought process at that particular point in time. What's going to tell parents?
So we're here to wait a second. Asking fun. There was 19, like I said, there were 19 officers in there. In fact, there was plenty of officers to do whatever needed to be done, with one exception, is that the incident commander inside believed they needed more equipment and more officers to do a tactical breach at that point. That's why Borgtak was requested on the scene as soon as they were there.
They executed a search, at least a dynamic entry, and went in. And, of course, that was not until 1257. Yeah. Hey, from the for the benefit of hindsight, where I'm sitting now, Of course, it was not the right decision, it was a wrong decision, period. There's no excuse for that.
But again, I wasn't there, but I'm just telling you, from what we know. We believe there should have been an entry at that as soon as you can. Hey, when there's an active shooter, the world's change. It's no longer, okay, it's no longer a barricaded set. You don't have time.
You don't worry about batter primers. And by the way, Texas embraces active shooter training, active shooter certification. And that doctrine requires officers. We don't care what agency you're from. You don't have to have a leader on the scene.
Every officer lines up, stacks up, goes and finds where those rounds are being fired at, and keeps shooting until the subject is dead. Period. Where did you sell them the borders and move? It's very difficult to understand how the most powerful nation in the world needs citizens have access to. I use weapons.
He's having a toll though. I'm over. And over again, now we're getting children. I don't mean to one day and try to quarterback with you guys to have such a extra company because I need to get questions please. How can you keep this from happening again?
How did an 18-year-old kid when these people winning a minimum wage buy a $5,000 weapon?
Well, that's for the last, he used a debit card first, but to your point, it's very expensive. And a debit card is not a credit card, it means he had money in the bank.
So, why and how is being looked at right now? And I'll tell you this: hundreds of more, thousands of more leads are being looked at right now because we haven't answered all the questions. We haven't gotten into the why.
Okay, we know the individual is also into cyber gaming in that regard and group gaming in that regard.
So, we've got a lot of questions are out there. We're seeking answers, but we've got an obligation. We'll continue to update you when we find something out. But she's still in the purpose of the only two stuff. I have two questions.
The first one basically said that Border Patrol has a specialty occupied and then we're not allowed to go into the building. Agents, the Vortec agents, they were in the building, they'd lined up, they're part of the 19 that I talked about, and the entry team, ultimately, the entry team that went in. But I can tell you that they were told, just as like as any other officer was told, and others, even command staff that came on board, is that the incident commander at the time was, it's believed, and the, you know, that in fact it was a barricaded subject, that we had time, there was no kids at risk. I wish he was. I wish he was because there's no question.
And I'll say this right now. Every time we have one of these, there's copycats, okay? And we need the public, just like we did back in 2018, there was a public, okay, that came forward. We got two people that are about to shoot up a school or plan to shoot a school. It's imperative on the public.
When you get something, just because it sounds like he's a nut, he may be a nut. But just because it sounds like, well, impossible to do, he may be intended to do, as I read the timeline based upon the chats that he had.
So we need everyone when we have a threat to life like that to take it seriously and report it. Because ultimately, this is tragic. What do you tell the parents of 19 kids or the families of two teachers? Hey, like I said it before, is that, well, first of all, when it comes to an active shooter, you don't have to wait on tactical gear. Do you believe it?
Plain and simple, you've got to get an obligation. What I know now, okay, absolutely, it was an active shooter because you can transition. Keep in mind, in the doctrine, okay, of active shooters, you can transition from an alert, from an active shooter situation to a barricaded subject or a barricaded with hostage subject, but if shooting continues and you have any reason to believe that there's individuals alive in there, you've got an obligation to move back to an active shooter posture, and that means everybody at the door. I'm 12. When you hear kids saying there were children alive in class of 1-12, eight to nine children, is that team or are these children still alive and bought to school resource officers off campus?
And did Uvalde SWAT respond to the same thing?
Well, Uvaldi has a part-time SWAT team, number one. The ISD's got, you know, they have limited officers. I think what is it? What do you got? Six?
Six. Yeah. You know, the independent, consolidated independent school district has six officers, and they didn't have one posted at that location. And someone said, hey, what do you tell the parents? I mean, you know, bottom line is that, or someone talked about and said when there's kids in the room, Why wasn't there an entry?
Because it was believed, like I said at the time, that the subject was stationary, barricaded. There was no risk to other children. Again, on retrospect, from where I'm sitting right now, clearly there were kids in the room. Clearly, okay, they're at risk. And by the way, even when you go back to shooting, there may be kids that are injured.
Okay, they may have been shot, but injured. And it's important for life-saving purposes to immediately get there and render aid. All right, folks. And if this continues on after the break, we will come back and dip in as needed. But you heard it.
Texas Department of Public Safety Colonel Stephen McCraw says the incident commander made the wrong decision by not penetrating into that classroom and taking out the shooter sooner than that. And. It all stems from what McCraw has said: from wrong information that he was inside, barricaded by himself with no threat to kids. Oh, how they have failed our kids. Bottom of the yellow, we're coming at you, Tim Van Horn, in for Todd.

Welcome back, Tim Ben Hornin for Todd Starrens on this Friday afternoon, 844-747-8868. Coming up later in the show, Mary Walter, one of our all-time favorites. Sean Spicer from Newsmax in the mix, and also Louie Gomert from Texas, great congressman. And Jonathan Gillum, former Navy SEAL FBI agent. We'll talk with them and your calls too at 844-747-8868.
And in the. Last segment of the program. You know, I'd originally opened up and said, hey, listen, 24 hours since yesterday, I had a ton of questions. Especially when we saw the narrative shift that there was no officer at the scene. When the shooter originally went into the school building.
So we go to the press conference where we hear from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Colonel McCraw, and he says the incident commander. made the wrong decision. on not to breach the classroom and to take out the shooter. And he says the reason that that occurred was because it was their understanding That the shooter was barricaded and no one else was in there with a safety risk. Oh, how wrong they were on that.
But that still doesn't answer the question why The shooter 12 minutes before even entering the school building, was shooting across the street at a funeral home, then shooting at the school, and then walked into an unlocked school building, then went into an unlocked room. And then killed 19 children and two teachers. It also doesn't answer the question. And you heard The Colonel Stephen McCraw. Tell us that 19 Law enforcement officials were inside the building, including Bortac members, the Border Patrol Tactical Unit.
At some point, you had nineteen in the building. But it doesn't explain. Why, from the get go? And you could hear the Colonel get a little irritated in the press conference last segment. Why in the world, if you have any iota, any inkling that there are kids nearby, whether or not you think they're in that classroom or not?
Why are you not throwing everything but the kitchen sink At that shooter to distract and take him down rather than have a buildup. Listen to this clip. From yesterday. And this is from the Texas Department of Safety. This is Lieutenant.
Christopher Olivares. And he's telling Wolf Blitzer about a gradual build-up of force. Listen to this in cut three.
So, what we do know, Wolf, is that there were multiple officers that arrived on scene. There were three officers that arrived that made entry at one of the entrances where the gunmen actually made entrance to. We had another four officers that made entry at the other entrance of the school.
So, there were officers inside that school. As they were taking gunfire, they were also calling in for reinforcement, backup, tactical teams, snipers, any additional personnel that could arrive to assist not only with the situation, but also to assist in evacuating students and teachers. At that time, that's when a U.S. Border Patrol tactical officer arrived, also with a Zavala County Sheriff's Deputy, as well as two additional Uvalde Police Department officers, who were able to go into that classroom with a ballistic shield as cover. And of course, we know that one of those officers, an agent, actually was shot with.
Grazed on the top of the head, but they were able to shoot and kill the suspect and preserve any other life. We know that there was other injured children inside that classroom that they were able to save as well and get them to cover. And at that point, it became a recovery process, a rescue operation, trying to rescue the injured and also any other potential children or teachers that were inside those classrooms. You heard him explain a gradual buildup. If there's any inkling that there is a kid in jeopardy, a teacher or a staff member, anybody, why are you not coming in with everything that you've got ready to go?
Why at that point when you're in the building and you're ducking bullets, why are you then calling for backup? Why are you then calling for an escalation?
