Good afternoon, everybody. Welcome into the WinklerVerse. I am Bart Winkler. It is the 25th of March.
It is a Tuesday. We've got coming up this week with Paul Imig and Grant Bills. Excited to discuss many things with them on the Wednesday show, including, I believe, a little severance recap, perhaps. Spoiler, it'd be spoiler. So we'll tag that at the end of the episode, should we get into that. I got it. Maybe I start, maybe I start a separate channel and start cranking out media stuff because Severance was awesome. Daredevil's got two episodes tonight.
And I realize now those are the only two shows that I watch. So maybe not. A couple of things that I do want to get out of my mouth to this audio and video platform before I talk to those boys, specifically regarding the Badgers and their run in the tournament and the Milwaukee Bucks and their recent West Coast trip in which they won some games, they lost some games, and also they maybe lost Damian Lillard. So we'll get into all that here in the next little bit or so. If you're on the Dan Cheney YouTube stream, you will notice that I am wearing a Rock the Dome shirt for the St. Louis Battle Hawks. They're back with the U.F.L. coming back this weekend. Another thing I say I should do that I totally won't is become a U.F.L.
podcaster. I think that would be very fun and entertaining. So I'm going to wear this shirt. I think I have enough D.C. Defender shirts to get me through the week and very excited for the U.F.L. coming up. And it's great that they're starting right around the Sweet 16 in which nobody will be watching. They couldn't have waited a week.
They're starting this week. So let's chuck that up to another thing I say I should do. I've got a lot of great ideas. Now, do I have the time and the energy to execute them? No, I do not.
Although I am motivated to start working a little harder. We had a little family weekend in Chicago, and I think the thing that stuck out with me the most was we visited the coal mines. Not the actual coal mines, but the Museum of Science and Science and Science and whatever it is.
And they have a coal mine exhibit. And yeah, they treated those people pretty badly. So not only do they work 14 hour days, but then they only get paid on what they used to produce. And then what the companies would do is if you made more money, they would charge you more for the things that you needed because they owned it all. And then you couldn't leave from town to town.
This is all stuff that's available in history, but I was just bewildered by a lot of it. So I'm making an effort to work a little harder in my life. A guy that knows all too well about what hard work is, Tim Shea is joining us.
Timmy, nice camera angle. Hi, thanks. How you doing? I'm doing all right. How you feeling? Feeling better, feeling better. Tim's been sick.
For a long time. Do we know with what? Some flu, norovirus maybe, who knows? Not going to have my doctor test for that. You can test for it, but... The numbers would go down if you didn't test. I mean, that's clear as day. It's not as easy as sticking a straw up your nose to test for that. What do you have to do?
You have to give them a sample of some stuff. Up the butt? Yes. Oh. So that's why they don't really test for it a lot.
There might be other ways. I don't know, but I had some sort of flu. Two weeks. Just started turning the corner. Did it knock you out of work? Knocked me out of work. Knocked me out of everything.
New job and you get knocked out of work? Yeah. Nice. I know. I was insane. In the coal mines, they used to work 14-hour days. I think if you took a few days off, they'd either fire you or kill you.
Probably. Then you'd be screwed. I lost 23 pounds though, so we're down to that. There was about three days where I couldn't eat anything. Couldn't drink water.
Throw it up. With all these diets and these exercise tips, I've found the quickest way to lose weight is to be sick. Every time I'm sick, I'm somewhat okay with it, but then the weight in my history, the weight does come back on pretty quick. You don't want to lose the weight.
If you want to keep it off, that would be my recommendation is to go for a walk right after this, if you're healthy enough. I was going to start with the Bucks and Damian Lillard, but with you here, I guess I'll talk Badgers. I don't think that that's... We're getting to both anyway.
We'll talk Badgers now because I don't watch the Bucks anymore because I don't get their channel. Really? I couldn't tell you what happened. Damian Lillard's hurt. Yeah, what happened?
They're not telling us. I guess. Hurt, hurt, or just hurt? I don't know. Might miss some time. Could jeopardize a playoff run. What part of the body?
Leg? Gaff. Oh, God.
Which again is what they're telling us. All right. The Badgers, they beat Wyoming. That was... Montana. They beat Montana. I watched the game. That was exciting.
Then they play BYU, and they're down big. I watched that game in the hotel room as I was putting my kid to bed, so he was into it. We were having a good time teaching him math in the process.
Sports are great to teach your kids math. They'd go down 11, then 9, then it'd be 11 again, then they got to 4, and then they got to 13, it was down to... But he fell asleep late, and then he missed the comeback. I think he would have really enjoyed that, but then he would have been devastated to see Tanjay miss the shot, which I don't mind the whole practice of that. He's your best player. He had, what, 37 points?
Badger record in the tournament? I don't mind giving him an opportunity just to go create. Oh, God.
No, not at all. It's like if Gard would have drew up a play, and then it would have been bad, we would have said, why don't you just let Tanjay cook, and then vice versa. So now we're like, it's just that kind of situation in sports. But he was dominant. He was a machine. I think if he could have got...
If the Badgers could have got that win, and playing another game this weekend, suddenly he's getting a lot more national attention, and maybe becomes one of the stars of the tournament, in a tournament where there's not a lot of upsets. But I think there was a stretch where I think they were down four. It was the third quarter, and BYU hit a three. Second half.
No, I have a tool that changes the halves of the quarters to help my kid. Gotcha. It was in the early part of the second half. I'm just so used to women's basketball.
I've been watching so much women's basketball. Watkins is out. I know. I saw that. I saw that live last night.
Ooh. You're that sick? You're watching live? Yes, it was not. I'm kidding, folks. I'm kidding.
But I thought... I said if BYU makes a shot, it's over. They made it. Obviously, it wasn't over, but it just felt like they went on maybe a 10-minute run, 10 to 12-minute run, where everything they wanted, they could hit. They were challenging themselves how deep can we take these threes, and they were knocking some down, but also defensively they were getting the rebounds. They were getting the loose balls.
I don't go to the chart of sadness and rank this one somewhere, but this was a team that had they beat BYU, it would be interesting to see what the game against Alabama would look like. But again, I'm getting to the point where it's not that I even want titles. I just want to get... I want the bare minimum in the playoffs. I want the Brewers to beat the Mets. I want the Packers to beat the Eagles. That's it.
I want the Sweet 16. I don't need more than that. Yeah. No, I get it.
I get it. I would have been fine with... Now again, I was sicker than a dog, so I was in and out and watching it and showing no emotion during the game, but I would have been just fine with if they would have lost by 10 and we go on. That is the Wisconsin thing is...
They came back. Not just Badgers, but all sports is that we're going to lose, and once you accept the loss, you're going to find a way to make it worse. You've accepted the loss as a Wisconsin sports fan. Yes. You've accepted it.
Congratulations. It sucks, but you've accepted it. Right when you accept it, right when we all accept it, uniformly, they're going to find a way to make it worse, and that's what happened at the end of BYU. Yep.
Pretty much. So guard's going to get fired next Tuesday. He won't. And he shouldn't. He won't. I know. I was just kidding. I mean, just go on.
We'll go to the portal. We'll get some guys. We'll be picked ninth or tenth next year, and we'll finish probably third or fourth. I think the longer that we get away from it and the more that they get to the tournament, which is maybe first round, second round, whatever, they really had a chance. Yeah, they did. Against Duke in 2015.
They did. And that team would have been immortalized as legends. Can you imagine if that team would have won the national championship? And I'm telling you, Tim, it was coming off the 2014 NSA championship loss. We all needed an outlet. Coming off a loss in the final four, too.
I mean, if you just want to step... Yeah, people really needed that. And instead, what has that team become? Kaminsky floated around the NBA, and he made a bucket to tie the game in game six for the Suns, and we're like, Frank Kaminsky? Sam Decker is just a professional... I think Twitter's paying him more money than any team he's been playing on, because now he's reverting to shitting on severance. Okay, Sam.
And Bukowski, too. I'm going to get into that with those boys tomorrow. These guys are shitting on the best show in 15 years. So what do you do as a Badger fan? Do you think about next year? Do you have a fun time?
Is it just... Think about next year. Yeah, right now, you go on to the off season, and then football comes right around, and then we get to waste three months on it. Football's going to be rough.
It's going to be very rough. I was actually just looking at their schedule. After game three, after game two, they might not get another win till week 10.
They might win three or four games next year. You and that recliner with those glasses, you look like a dad from the 1930s. Alabama? Yeah, well, you right now.
I know. Do you want to go to Alabama? The game? Yeah, the Badgers play down in Alabama next year.
If they don't lose by more than 50, I'll take that as a win. Are you inviting me? Do you want to go? Road trip? Drive? Does Amtrak go down there? I'm a big train guy now. Well, okay.
I'll take a look. You know, if I go to this Packer game... Which one? We want to go to the one in Denver.
When do you think that will be? I don't know, but a train ride from Chicago to Denver is only 23 hours and two minutes. There you go. And I could sit coach for $150.
Or I could get a sleeping room for like $750. Could you imagine being on a train for a day? Hey, are you going to opening day? I don't know. My plan is somehow.
Well, let's talk. Let's maybe go to the day game if you don't go to opening day. There's a day game. When? The noon start. When? Wednesday? Thursday?
I forget. This is a three game series. So Wednesday, I think. Oh, when's opening day? The 31st? The home opener. Sorry. Oh, Wednesday.
Yeah, I could probably do that. You know how we did that last year and the Brewers swept the Mets? Or no, that was two years ago. What was that? I'm also very likely to be going to Cubs opening day. Why? Damn you. Because I want to meet up with Carlos Ortiz.
Oh, well, have fun. He's flying in from New York. Who are they playing? The Cubs? Yeah, they're not even playing a New York team. I just looked at their- He's a Cubs fan.
Oh, God. I don't know who they're playing. I don't like those. I don't like them.
You need a new producer now. No, I mean, it's a better Cubs fan than a... At least for the Cubs fan, we can talk about council. They play the Padres. But I'm going to try to drive down and then drive back up and do my show.
And go to opening day. You are a Cub. I knew it. I knew it.
You're a closet, council, Cubs backer. You got to keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Enemies closer. You got to keep your friends closer.
Well, let's talk offline and maybe go to a game. All right, fun. We are brought to you by Happy Place Hemp. The promo code is BART.
I don't think they have any hemp that can cure norovirus. Do you mind if I leave? Yeah, you can leave.
Sorry. I appreciate seeing you. I do.
I do appreciate seeing you and I appreciate you everything. It's been a while. Are you going to be healthy by the home opener? I hope so.
I should be. It just sucks. It's my favorite week of the year and I was out at the tournament. I maybe watched 15 minutes of basketball.
So you are better at it, but that's why people get vasectomies, but you can even stay awake. I couldn't stay awake. I couldn't keep anything down. How were your BM's?
Were they thick? Not even close. Do you mind if I leave? You can leave anytime you want. Yes, maybe I'll come back. To finish with the Badgers.
It's the circular thing. I'd be more pissed off if I'm a Marquette fan, honestly. Yeah, because if you're a Marquette fan right now, your best cope is to shit on the Badgers, as always.
And they can't do that. I've had it with Marquette. I don't care.
I've just flat out had it with them. I can't believe, I actually had to go back and look at this, but Shaka hates the portal. He's never had a transfer. That's crazy.
That's crazy. He's like the Dabo Sweeney of college football. When does he start? I mean, I know people love him.
I might get flack for this, but when do people start putting him on the hot seat? He's got great regular seasons, gets the teams in the tournament, but he can't, other than last year, he can't get past the first second round. I think Marquette fans have a hard time realizing it's not 2003 still.
The big East is not still the big East. Yeah, I know that Dan Hurley's dumb ass. I'm so glad he lost.
He's such a piece of shit that Tino too. Oh, sorry. I just got another text from Brett Favre. Oh, what did Brett want? Hey Bart, you're voting on Tuesday.
Yeah, I get these texts. Hey, it's Brett Favre here. And, uh, they spell Favre wrong. Oh, of course they did.
But then I was going to share that because I had posted it originally to Blue Sky and it's like, Hey, it's Brett Favre here. I'll get out and vote. And they spelled it wrong. But then I'm wondering, are they so galaxy brain to spell it wrong on purpose so that I do share it so that the message gets out there and all of a sudden I'm sharing the message or are they that dumb? Somehow I think it's both. Yeah. All right. We'll feel better.
All right. Take it easy. I just want to say hello, talk a little bit badgers and, uh, get ready for opening day. Are you going to be on to a Thursday after the brew game before?
Probably maybe. I don't think I'll be able to do it after, unless it's like one of those two hour games rock on ESPN with Joe Buck, with Joe Buck. I'm Jack for that dude. I am too.
That's going to be sweet. All right. Take it easy.

It's checking out my face. All right. Um, one last thing I want to talk about the badgers mullet man who also says go reds.
Good luck. Badgers let me down. I had them in the final four, my kids brackets in fourth place. He took all chalk pretty much.
And then the badgers to win it all. He was then asking me to change it. And I said, I would love to, perhaps I interest him in the, um, value of a second chance bracket, which somehow I always do worsen. I'm very upset about my bracket. I did take Clemson to the final four in one of them.
And then the other one, and this is what it's pissing me off a lot because I go on the radio. I say it's going to be a chalky year. Take chalk Duke or Florida is going to win. Uh, right now I've, I've, I have done a bracket where I took a lot of chalk and then I have, I think in that one Duke to win, but I have like no path to win. Uh, and then, and I think it's cause in that one I did take St. John's a little further, but I knew St. John's is going to be bad. So I knew it'd be chalk. I knew St. John's would be bad.
I liked Arkansas to be Kansas. And then I, but somehow I didn't combine those into one. I'm very upset and I'm getting upset about like $200 that I could have won in a $5 bracket. But then when my stock plummets or my 401k, I should say plummets, I'm just like, eh, I get more upset. I get more upset when, when I, uh, I went to, let's just say a casino the other day and I put a dollar in the machine and then it didn't accept it. It didn't take it as credit.
It just like evaporated. And I'm more upset about that than like, you know, if I get over whatever, I'm just pissed. I'm just pissed all the time. I don't work in a coal mine. I don't work in a coal mine.
I don't work in a coal mine. So that's good. Uh, who do I like at this point? I mean, you got to still go kind of ride with Duke or Florida. Um, those are the two teams I like coming in.
That's kind of where I'm at. I also think that this is the exact kind of formula and exact point that I've been making about the tournament. We love the upsets.
The first two rounds were not great because there were not a lot of upsets, but the year that St. Peter's made a run, that was like the lowest rated elite eight in years. The ratings are going to be better. More people are going to be watching more interest is going to be there because it's the powerful matchups.
It's all power for conference teams. So the first couple of rounds suffered so that the rest of the tournament can deliver. A lot of times we're used to the crazy upsets and then, you know, there's at least a Cinderella we can get behind, but they always lose. So I think a little short term pain for a little longterm game.
Um, yes, same old story. All of our franchises and team lettuce town time and time again. And that may be the situation with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Paul and I talked about this last week. I don't feel great about their chances. I might be shifting at this point to just win a series. Will they have everyone available for that series? They're going to get Bobby Portis returning towards the end of the season.
Um, they do need him at this point. And also Damian Lillard is hurt. So what's going on with Damian Lillard and his injury? Well, he did play against the Warriors. So on the West Coast road trip, this is what's been happening in the last week in Bucks basketball. They lose one Oh four to 93 and a game where Steph didn't play.
Bucks, I don't know, had a lead and then Warriors, whatever. But Damian was six for 18. He had 16 points.
He played 38 minutes. Then they're scheduled to play the Lakers and he's ruled out with a calf injury. The quote from Doc Rivers, I just know it popped up and you know, didn't do shoot around today.
So we just kept moving on. So no Doc Rivers. The or no Damian Lillard. The Lakers don't have Luca or LeBron in this game. So the Bucks easily win even without Dame 118 to 89.
All right, then they take on the kings should beat them have a hard time beating them eventually do beat them 114 to 108. And then prior to the sun's game on Monday, Eric name posted his q&a with Doc Rivers. And the q&a with Doc Rivers is very interesting in the fact that they didn't say anything like they never do. The Bucks and injuries this going all the way back to Bud, who the Bucks media did want to talk to before the sun's game, but apparently the sun's p PR team did not make them available.
So that's cool. Here is the q&a prior to the game with Eric name the media and Doc Rivers is Damian Lillard with the team. Yes, he's here is the injury still day to day. It's still day to day.
We have to wait and see where it goes. Reporters say typically on a day to day guys might start as questionable in the injury report, but he's listed as out immediately the day before the last two games Doc says and I don't follow that. Understood, but he's been immediately listed as out with no chance of playing. So is he making progress? No, obviously because he's not playing so we're going to keep monitoring it hopeful that we'll get more information about it today. I know he saw some people were checking everything out reporters. Did he have to get imaging done?
Yeah, he's done that a couple of times. Is there a concern about a tear? I don't know we'll know more. So at this point, I don't see an update on Damian Lillard as of this recording 2 30 in the afternoon on Tuesday.
It's possible we find out more today or even before their next game. Lost by the way to the Suns on a pretty near buzzer beater from Devin Booker Bucks have the Nuggets Wednesday night, and then they're back home against the Knicks on Friday, but if Dame's got an injury. And he's going to be out.
How long is he going to be out? You've got about three weeks left of the regular season. And then you get into the playoffs. The Bucks in every year since they have not gotten back to the finals since they won the finals and every year the postseason has had an injury. Giannis hurt, Dame hurt, Middleton hurt.
There's been an injury. There could be a different timeline where they're still riding with Bud and riding with Drew and riding with Middleton and just continuing to ride this team out because every time they get to the playoffs, there's an injury and you don't overreact to that because you were injured. But now it's going to happen again and let's say that we don't get Damian Lillard.
Let's say he comes back, retweaks and something else. Let's say there's no Damian Lillard in the playoffs and now Giannis has to take this team and try to win with them. They're not going to win. They could win a series. Who might they play?
The Knicks, the Pistons, the Pacers? They can win a series. They can. Will they? I don't know, but they can.
But then after that, they're done. And then so what do you do? Do you move on from Dame? Because I think a lot of us are at the point where if it doesn't work with Dame and Giannis healthy, do you want to run it back another time?
But what can you get from Dame at this point? I had a friend who made a comparison to me. He said, is this version of Damian Lillard basically the Angels version of Albert Pools?
And I go, fuck, would that make Giannis Mike Trout? Sure. You got these two guys.
One's great. Now, thank God the Bucks won in 21. If they didn't win in 21, I'd be convinced they're never going to win again. I'd have my same Brewers thought that I have with the Bucks.
I don't think they're cursed because they won. You see that behind me on the Dan Cheney YouTube stream, which if you like videos of me as a TV reporter, I just got all of them digitized and they're all coming out over the next 12 months. I've got one scheduled for the first day of Oktoberfest already. I'll have a video where I'm a firefighter for a day. Oh, if you love the going ons of the Cooley region in 2007, you're going to be pumped up.
You're going to be pumped up. So I don't know. I think if the Bucks are injured again, let's say there's any injury that keeps the full healthy team from a playoff run, it makes it very hard to make decisions. Because I do think if they get bounced by Indiana, you got to change everything. You got to change so much. But what if they're hurt?
Then what do you do? Another reason why the Bucks are in the news is Doc Rivers is getting clowned. What's new? There was an interview he did with Chris Haynes. Doc was asked, do you ever think about coaching in the NBA bubble when the Clippers blew a 3-0 semifinals of the NBA playoffs to the Denver Nuggets? And he said, no, in the bubble I had a group of guys that didn't want to be there. Lou Williams said we were trying to leave. As a coach, I felt that. I didn't get it, but we lost. And then he was asked, how do you feel with all the criticism you've received from the media on social media for losing 3-1 series?
And Doc gave an answer, which he's getting killed for. But I like it. I like it because it goes exactly with my LeBron versus MJ argument. MJ was 6-0 in the finals, LeBron's like, I always forget, 4-7 or something, 4-6, 4-5.
But he's gotten there and lost. MJ never did that. If Michael Jordan, one of those years would have took a Bulls team to the finals and lost and gone to the finals seven times but lost one, getting there seven times and going 6-1 is not as good as getting there six times and going 6-0, even though you would have gotten there another time.
LeBron took some really bad teams there, especially that first Cavs team, but he gets an L for it instead of credit. And Doc Rivers said, I got a team that was an eight seed up 3-1 once. That's coaching.
That's not bad coaching. The one with the Clippers is the only one that got away. People don't realize that Chris Paul was running on one leg in 2015 and we were the underdog. When you think about it, Houston had home court, not us. No one tells a real story.
It's unfair in some ways. I don't get enough credit for the three wins. I get credit for losing. I always say, what if we had lost to Houston in six?
No one cares. We've never been swept. I'm proud of that. All the coaches have been swept in the playoffs. My team's achieved, sometimes overachieve.
I'm proud of that. So if you look at Doc's career outside of the 2008 run, they had a 3-1 lead against the Pistons when he was with the Magic in 03. Lost it. Celtics, a 3-2 lead against the Magic in 09, lost it. A 3-2 lead against the Lakers in 2010, lost it. A 3-2 lead against the Heat in 2012, lost it. For the Clippers, a 3-1 lead against the Rockets, lost it. For the Clippers again, a 3-1 lead against the Nuggets, lost it. Bubble. And then in 2023, a 3-2 lead for the Sixers against the Celtics, lost it.
But in all of those times that he blew a 3-1 lead, he had the three wins. So it begs the question. Begs it.
It begs the question. If I start to climb Mount Everest and I get nine-tenths of the way there and then cannot finish, do I get credit for climbing the nine-tenths? Now if I cannot finish, maybe I mean die.
Maybe I need to get out of here and helicopter down. I don't know. Do people quit or they just die? What happens? How do you get down once you get up by the way? You climb back down? I don't know.
I don't know the answer to that. Do you get credit? Can you tell people, I ran 24 miles of a marathon?
No, a marathon is 26.2. Do you get credit for the 24 miles? Is Cold Harbor completed if it's only 96% of the way done? I guess it's not. So I guess I answer my own question. You don't get the credit. You don't get the credit unless you finish. Wow. Shit.
You don't get the credit for the three. Yeah, I don't know. Maybe I just talked my way out of it. I really like his answer. I really like his answer. Shit. I got to think about that before I talk with the boys tomorrow.
All right. Thanks for stopping into the Winklerverse. Remember happyplacehemp.com promo code is BART. Excited for the Brewers this week. I've not watched an inning of spring training, so I don't have much to add there.
Draft is a month away. I should be there. Have some behind the scenes for you. Maybe. We should be there too. And then I'll possibly have some content for you coming up from Wrigley Field. Wow. What a trader. Thank you for stopping once again into the Winklerverse. We will talk soon.
