Good afternoon, everybody. My name is Bart Winkler.
Welcome into the Winklerverse. Recording on the 21st of November, the week before Thanksgiving, we'll have a Packer game. This time next week, a night game at home against the Dolphins.
Hopefully it goes better than when they played the Bears at home. And Bart Starr and Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers and the pitcher that took three years to be published. Didn't Rodgers go visit Favre for like some documentary at some point? Whatever happened to that? Where is that? I don't know. Just wanted to get on here this Thursday and puke out some thoughts about everything that's going on in Wisconsin sports.
If that's where you are, you can find it on the Odyssey app. So I talk about all these different things. Bears were a topic last couple of weeks, which coincided with the Packers win. But I got all these things that like I want to talk about Pat Murphy a little bit.
I want to talk about Giannis a little bit more. And that's why Into the Winklerverse rolls on in whatever form it is rolling on. So thank you for finding this. If you did, remember to like and subscribe. Get the five star ratings.
I don't know. It does help. So I thank you. We're brought to you by Happy Place Hemp. Promo code is Bart. Every single order that you order at Happy Place Hemp is 25% off with the promo code Bart. Okay, so they got seltzers, they got gummies, they got tinctures, they got lip balms, they got everything that you need. And a bunch of different seltzers. I'll show you on the Dan Cheney YouTube stream, the website if you haven't seen it.
But you should go there. Again, here's what you're looking at. You're looking at gummies, you're looking at the seltzers, you're looking at the nighttime gummies, which I have been taking quite a bit.
You got dog treats, you want to give some CBD for your dog, their sampler packs, if you want to just get started. And again, you can get started. And if you like it, then you can get it again and you still get to use the promo code. It's not a one time deal. You get the promo code all the time. 25% off promo code is Bart.
I'll get to the bucks in a minute. I want to start with Pat Murphy winning the National League Manager of the Year. I think it's an incredible honor for him. I think it shows just how good the Brewers were because of him. Craig Council left as you know. And it was a little startling that he left but also where he left.
And then Pat Murphy left to kind of pick up the pieces as his buddy, his protege moves on to to Chicago to the enemy. And I think Pat did an incredible job. Obviously, he got them to win the NL Central. He got them into the playoffs. One thing that I think with these awards is it would help if they were announced prior to the postseason.
I think I would get up for that more. A lot of times I talk about Aaron Rodgers winning MVPs and how it doesn't matter to me. Oh, I don't care. He cares. I don't care. That's because after a horrific playoff loss that we're still dealing with, you watch the NFL honors show and his little head pops up because he ain't coming.
And he's like, Oh, it's so great. I'm so happy I won an award. They didn't win the Super Bowl. And so Pat Murphy wins the National League Manager of the Year.
And I'm just reminded that they didn't win the first round of the playoffs. It's a bummer. So if those things get announced, because they get voted on. So announcing like baseball this week. They're not doing an award show. They're just slow dripping these awards every day so it's like a blurb in the update. We're not going to talk about school and sale, winning the Cy Young we're not going to stop our days for that.
If you announce it before. Maybe it like energizes the team maybe it energizes like. All right, we got the we got the we got the manager of the year. Let's go out there and win. We got the MVP Aaron Rodgers is the MVP.
Let's, let's take this through the playoffs and show everybody. That he is the MVP. I think it would help more if it was announced prior to the postseason because the only time like an MVP really feels good. Is if you also won the championship, because it's like yeah. I mean, it's a great award. I don't want to be the guy who downplays MVP, but I am, because they don't matter as much because a lot of that's what the timing.
If it can propel the team. Then I think that's another thing so Pat Murphy congratulations. I mean, I don't know anybody that's got a bad Pat Murphy story.
I still think about when he became the interim manager of the Padres and we knew there was a Craig council connection so all the Milwaukee media went from councils dugout to Murphy's and Murphy would introduce himself to everybody and I don't know that he remembers the names but it was just a nice gesture like, I don't know of a manager that's the thing with these managers, their jobs are insane, they got to talk to the media so much, too much. But when they make you feel human. I think that's a big like that's a, that's a little bar to clear maybe but I think that's a big part of it and it's hard again you got microphones in your face all the time after during before. But, you know, every time I've been a reporter I just don't feel human I feel like I feel like a lizard I feel like a leopard leper. I feel like I need something from you. I feel like a predator. Give me what I need.
Give me the info give me the, give me that 15 seconds soundbite that I can rush back to the station for our Z Bart pregame show. And when they make me feel human I feel good about that. So, Pat Murphy made me feel human one time. So thank you, Pat. Appreciate that. Hot take Jake, couple of comments here, just popping in to say Giannis is the best he's ever been wish it wasn't during a wasted season.
Holy shit Jake, my god. And props to Giannis for passively aggressively shitting on ESPN in the postgame interview. Oh also. Guys, we can rest easy. The Houston Rockets are not interested in the honest the data kumpo. They're not.
We can rest easy. They like their young core they'd rather develop that then trade for the honest the data kumpo. I know that I've been freaking out for weeks about the Houston Rockets known interest in the honest the data kumpo. And it's all been talking about. I see people at the gas station they go you worried about Houston I go yeah. Quite frankly, I'm terrified. They got a young core.
And they could trade some of those pieces for honest the data kumpo. I still see his family at swimming. I almost want to say to the kids. Kid you're gonna be moving to Houston.
Worried about it more I'm worried about your dad's. And the interest. That the Rockets have that's so pronounced. If only a report would come out where Houston would tell us they're not interested. Oh what a. What a lift off my shoulders. When that happened.
The Rockets are not interested. Oh my God I mean I can't tell you. I drove around town last night on my way to work. Parties in the street.
Deer District setting record numbers. Once again. That the Houston Rockets announced. That they weren't interested in the honest the data kumpo. You might be saying. The Rockets were interested in the honest. I guess so. They made a point to come out and say that they're not. In a lot of people making the same joke. Well I'm not interested in leaving my family for this actress.
Are you though. So yeah a lot of that can end. And the Bucks you know that game against the Bulls. They went out to a nice lead. And then the Bulls came back. Brooke Lopez has been playing well is that. Is that going to continue. I've enjoyed that. But the Bucks beat Chicago the other night one twenty two to one oh six.
They also. Had just beaten the Rockets which was a nice win. Needed win. After what happened in Charlotte. Doc Rivers getting fined that I mean Giannis never touched that guy.
I don't know how they saw it on review. Is anybody worried that the Bucks might not win the Central Division because the Cleveland Cavaliers are sixteen and one. I care about division championships. I know you guys don't. But I care about it. Bucks have won what the last like seven.
Well I guess I don't get it. I don't I don't get I don't get why no one cares. I don't get why we don't care. The Bucks have won the last six.
And the Cavs won four before that. Pacers Bulls. Why don't why don't we care. Why don't we care about that. We we care in baseball. We care in. The NFL. Because they play each other more you play each other more in your division.
In the NBA. Why don't we care. I don't get it. But we don't we just don't. Even I don't really. I wish we did.
But I don't. So yeah the Cavs are playing pretty well kudos to them but then the Celtics got them the other night. To reaffirm their dominance in a classic game in Boston where they go up twenty to three and. Luke Cornette or whatever version of him they have is popping three balls. All of a sudden Peyton Pritchard is like a top twenty fantasy player.
He doesn't even start. So the Bucks got the win over the Rockets. They got the win over the Bulls.
They've won four of the last five. Giannis was incredible last night. It was a nationally televised game.
So I hope more people got to see it. He had forty one points. Nine boards. Eight assists.
Added a steal. Damian Lillard has made three. Of his last. Twenty eight three point shots. So that is bad. What is that percentage three of twenty eight. Eleven percent.
How is it that how is that that that high. So he needs to get going. But this is Giannis team. And so I hope that they all understand that.
And I think that they do. I think it last year it was a lot of Giannis being excited that day was coming maybe acquiescing. Maybe saying you know you're great I want you to be great and I'll be great here. They need to be great together but they also need Giannis to be great. He's the centerpiece of this team. He's the best player in the league.
He needs to be the centerpiece of this team. Everything else works around Giannis. They were talking on the broadcast about AJ Green. And I was watching the ESPN broadcast. But Mark Davis is on and I don't like listening to him. So I listened to Lisa and Steve.
Big Lisa fan. I think she does a great job especially with Marcus. I was listening to them and they were talking about how AJ Green has done such a good job of playing off of Giannis. AJ Green does a good job of not just being there when he needs to be there but facilitating the Giannis. And more importantly if he gets the ball he's going to shoot. I think they were talking about this on the radio broadcast.
This might have been Justin and Dave. Where when AJ Green gets the ball he shoots. He doesn't pass up a good shot looking for a better shot. He shoots.
And you saw that happen a couple of times late last night. Green off the bench. 5 of 7 from 3. 18 points for him. Gary Trent heads a big 3.
So a lot of this is just trying to figure out who's coming in when. Jackson Jr. started again. Only played 14 minutes. Bobby Portis played also.
No Coniton in this one. So they're just trying to figure out the best rotation. I think they're going to continue to do that. And also one of those younger point guards Ryan Rollins has had a nice impact too when he's been able to be healthy. He's got a dislocated shoulder. So I think like with where the Bucks are at 6 and 9.
And I went off on this on the show last night. Because the Sixers are 2 and 12. My God the Sixers are 2 and 12. And finally they had George and Maxie and Embiid play together. 6 minutes until Paul George hyperextended his left knee again.
Same knee. But remember that first week of the season when the Bucks were 1 and 3 and then what 1 and 6? And everybody rushed to publish their Doc Rivers sucks articles?
Because it's just a thing in the NBA. You shit on Doc Rivers. Everyone shits on Doc Rivers.
You just do. Everyone agrees they don't like Doc Rivers. He's bad. He's terrible. He chokes. You don't like him.
And everyone agrees on that. It's easy. You just pile him up like in the NFL. You pile on Daniel Jones. Well he sucks. It's easy. You're not going to get any push back if you say God I don't like Doc Rivers.
You're going to say welcome to the family. By all of NBA. Well Doc's our guy now. And we've shit on Doc before. But I think we need to embrace Doc. I think we need to roll with Doc. I think we need to stand up for Doc. I think we need to defend Doc before we're in defense mode.
We need to attack with our good feelings of Doc. Because everybody wrote their Doc Rivers articles and everybody wrote their Bucks articles and everybody wrote their Giannis Wants Out articles which he does not. Everybody wrote all that first week of the season. When does that get written about Embiid? When does that get written about the Sixers? They're 2 and 12. Their win total was 49 and a half to start the season.
It's 41 now. That's a 500 record. Probably still gets in at least the playing game and who knows but... This has been a decade of... Well let's put Ben Simmons next to Embiid. Now let's put Jimmy Butler next to Embiid. Now let's put James Harden next to Embiid.
Alright Tyrese Maxey, let's get Paul George at 34 and give him a new contract even though he's broken down. Let's get all these guys next to Embiid. Maybe the problem is Embiid. I talked about last year before the start of the season that the Sixers...
There's a gap there between the Celtics and the Bucks. They should maybe look to move Embiid and start over. They're not going to win ever with Embiid. So start over. But then Embiid was playing well, MVP type season. Then he got hurt.
Even when he's at his best, he's not reliable. So what are you going to keep doing? Keep not getting to the conference finals? Not even a conference final. Not even a conference final.
Ten years of them beating us every other Christmas. Ten years of us being force fed Joe Al Embiid should be MVP because he was upset that he wasn't one time. Ten years of Joe Al Embiid can't win a ring so he gold medal chases. And then plays FIBA ball and hunts for NBA style fouls.
You're in the Olympics my guy. Don't be foul hunting. Gets back into these games, he's flopping on free throws.
Does he want to play? Then he says the city doesn't do enough for him. You've done nothing for the city. Oh God. I mean imagine if this was the Bucks. Imagine if this was the team you rooted for. Imagine if we drafted Giannis and did not make a conference finals in the ten years. Not even a conference finals. We already probably don't have enough with him. We're already going to be saying, well we only won one Super Bowl with Rodgers, only one Super Bowl with Favre, only one title with Giannis. We probably already don't have enough.
But we at least have one. And they don't have that there. And I don't get how the energy that, and I know Doc was with the Sixers for a while, that's when they got it the most, but why is this not towards Embiid? Why is the criticism towards Embiid not there? I'm not trying to be rude.
I'm just like, where is it? Bucks have the Pacers on Friday. Ooh, NBA Cup game.
Which I'm not into, but I do want to win those. Then they have Charlotte on Saturday again. Those are home games. I think you can get some good deals for tickets. And then Tuesday they're in Miami.
And then Thanksgiving. So Bucks are 6-9. I think they're fine. Doc said a while ago, it's not like we're not going to make the playoffs. They're not not going to make the playoffs.
But they do need to start winning more games. And right now they're the 10 seed, but guess what? They're a half game out of the 6 seed. There's four teams in the East with a winning record. Pistons are the 6 seed right now. They were my surprise team to make the playoffs.
I still feel good about that. The usual suspects are at the bottom, but then the Sixers at 2 and 12. And do you see who's leading the West? My Golden State Warriors at 11 and 13.
Beautiful stuff. Alex has a comment playing on old jokes. Rogers is open to joining the Tennessee Titans. I did see that getting speculated again because he's got land in Nashville. What a disaster that Jets situation is. Woody Johnson apparently, the owner, wanted to bench Rogers after week four. After week four. And that was one week after his best game up until that point.
He's had maybe two games where it's like, okay, that's Rogers. The Texans game was good and the Patriots game was good. For whatever reason, those were both the Thursday night games. So, Rogers and the Jets are really only good on Thursday, I suppose. Don't know if there's anything to that, but the Jets now are out of prime time for the most part. Buried in the noon window during your red zone viewing.
So, you won't have to be subjected to it too much. They're one and four with Devontae Adams. They fired Joe Douglas, who is a brilliant guy once quoted by Pat McAfee. And now he's out of a job.
Robert Sala's out of a job. And Aaron Rodgers will probably be out of a job. So, if the Jets get rid of Rodgers, what does Rodgers do? Does he retire?
Does he go out like this? I think if Rodgers wanted to be retired, he would be retired. I think if Rodgers wanted to be retired, he would be retired. But I don't think he knows what else to do. I think he kind of was hanging on to getting that Jeopardy job because then at least he would have somewhere to go. I think he was kind of surprised he didn't get it. And I know that Sean O'Connell thinks he was a great host.
And I disagree on that with him. But I don't know what else Aaron Rodgers would do. He's not doing broadcasting. He's going to disappear. He's going to open a Rainforest Cafe. Where the hell is he going to be? Nobody knows.
So, interesting to watch there. I just look at these other teams like, where are the Tennessee Titans going to say, all right, we'll try it for a year now after those two years. I don't see that anyone, what team takes him on as a starter? What team wants him to start? Does he want to come back up Jordan Love? What team takes him on as a starter? I got no idea.
I can't think of one. Why would you want to do it after what you saw just happened in New York? Minnesota? Does he follow Farb and go to Minnesota? No, they're not going to do that.
I don't see him being a starter anywhere. We'll be back next week, likely with an mm-mm-mm-mm. I think we're going to try to squeeze one in. None this week.
There's some vacation happening. I'm going to try to get a couple more Packer posts here. Maybe even a surprise on a Thanksgiving night, depending how I watch the game. We'll be off from the show that night, so we'll see about that. Tim Shea says he's got something to say, but he told me that Monday, and then he's been like really bad about answering his text. So I don't know what the hell's going on with him there.
But I hope to get a couple more things here over the holiday week. Regarding the Packers, they've got the 49ers this week. I think you feel okay about the game. It is the 49ers. They do beat us all the time. Not even with Aaron Rodgers, but also with Jordan Love. So I'm not confident in how this game will go.
Packers are a two-point favorite, which is, I mean, at home, so it's pretty much a pick them. I think Brock Purdy has looked good. I think he's looked better than he did a year ago, when he was being like heralded as the next Joe Montana.
I think he looks better than a year ago. I don't think he's Joe Montana, but he's the least of their problems right now in San Francisco. They have a lot of injuries. I think Nick Bosa's going to miss this game. Seahawks scored all their 20 points against the Niners when Bosa was out. So that's nice. Purdy, yeah, Lee mentions Purdy as arm soreness.
That could help us. He landed on the injury report. I think they get George Kittle back. He's usually good to slice us up for a couple of third and 16s, where he gains 25 yards. And we saw how great we were on third down last week. I'll reiterate, the Packers were, the Packers, the Bears converted nine of 16 third downs last week. And then seven of those, they didn't convert, they went for it on fourth and converted three of the three of those.
So of the seven, they went for it on fourth three times and converted all three of those. Niners, I believe, is Anders Carlsson still kicking for them? Or no, Moody came back. Moody came back and sucked.
Didn't he last week? So we'll have their guys that we need to stop. We'll need to stop. Joanne Jennings, we'll need to stop McCaffrey, we'll need to stop Debo. Kyle Juszczek will probably rip off a 20-yard run out of nowhere. I don't know that I feel anything about this game yet. I'm going to try to do some picks with Horvat this week, too, get that fired back up. I kind of feel like the Browns win tonight. I think the Bears, I saw a Bears guy talk himself into beating the Vikings.
I might kind of follow that. I think, hmm, what other games do I ever read on? Or at least a weird feeling about.
Not a lot. This Packers-Niners game. I guess I'm just prepared for a loss.
I mean, I don't want it to be the case. But I am prepared for a loss just because that's what we do against the Niners. It's the same way with the Bears. Bears fans talk themselves into beating the Packers. They know it's not going to happen.
They can put money on it, they can make bets, but ultimately they know that it's not going to happen. Until we beat the Niners again. When's the last time that the Packers beat the 49ers? Is there one tucked in there that I... Oh, okay. We beat them in 2021 and 2020.
Hmm. All right, so we can beat them in the regular season and not the playoffs. Maybe this is a classic Bill's Chiefs thing.
What the hell happened in 2021? The Rogers beat Garoppolo. What's the record I'm thinking of, 0-5 in the playoffs versus them? That might be it. So maybe we win. Maybe we win this week.
I don't know. It'd be nice to win. Last week's win was a lot more important than we think. Because we can't get bogged down into that NFC West, everybody 5-5.
They needed to fight within themselves. We've got to hang on to a wildcard spot. There's no chance of getting the number one seed.
There's no chance. Even if the Packers would have beaten the Lions, then they'd have the same record. And we'd have the tiebreaker.
There'd still be no chance. The Lions are right now head and shoulders above. Can the Packers beat them? Sure, any given Sunday.
Who got them this year? The Rams? Sure, there's a version of the Packers that can beat the Lions. But I just think the Lions are the supreme team in the NFL right now. I still think the Chiefs are up there. They lost to the Bills, but you get a matchup of that in the playoffs and the Chiefs are going to win based on what we've seen. Preseason prediction was Lions losing to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
I'm still there. I still think 3-peat. The Lions probably closer to the Chiefs than I am at the beginning of the season in terms of what a Super Bowl would look like, but I don't think they get there.
The Packers, and we may not be, there's somebody on Twitter, I'm sorry, or Blue Sky, I'm there. There's somebody who keeps saying, I forget who it is, but the window really starts in 2025. That in 2025, that's when the Packers need to be competing for Super Bowls. Last year was a figure it out.
There is improve on last. I do not think this is a Super Bowl or bust year. That being said, if Jordan Love plays better, if Toyota-thon comes through here, he could still win. I mean, we can win a Super Bowl this year. There's been worse teams than us, Giants, that have won Super Bowls. So I still think we can get it done.
It's just a matter of what the path is going to look like. So there'll probably be a wild card, and if you're the top wild card, you're going to go, what, to Philly? Otherwise, if you're the next wild card, you're going to go to the NFC South winner or the NFC West winner, which could be the Niners. South is up for grabs. Falcons don't seem to want it. Buccaneers have an easy schedule. I kind of like them to make a run, but other than that, and then the Badgers. Oh, that was so close against Oregon. Basketball team won, though, and then almost lost to some other school. I've got my eye on them. Everyone's happy about Marquette. Cool. Good for them, but Badgers have a game this weekend against, fuck, I don't know, Nebraska.
I think it is. As long as you get the axe. Just get the axe and get the hell out of here. Fired Phil Longo.
Just get the axe. Get the hell out of this season. I'm going to look at Badgers next season.
Are they ever going to get a quarterback? What do we got next year? Badgers, 2025 schedule. Oh, we're at Alabama.
Wow. At Indiana. At Oregon. Host Ohio State.
Host Washington. I hope Indiana doesn't get boned somehow. These two loss SEC teams think they're God's gift. I hope Indiana wins this weekend, I think. And Army and Notre Dame's going to be very interesting, too.
So I think college has been pretty good, even though, of course, we suck. All right, that'll do it for today's Into the Winklerverse. Thanks for stopping by, however long you did.
It's always appreciated. You can check out the national show and the Bart Winkler show on the Infinity Sports Network. I'll be on there tonight.
NBA All-Star Game change their format. I'm mad about that, of course. I've got the Bart-O-Meter tonight. Talk about NFL broadcast crews and breakdown Steelers and Browns. You can catch that wherever you get your podcast. That's mainly what I'm up to.
But also getting the chance to talk Wisconsin sports is always a joy. Thank you as always. Check out HappyPlaceHump.com, promo code Bart, 25% off.
