The Carolina Hurricanes have to be willing to make a big swing. Because right now, their team is good. Their team is really, really good right now. There's a reason why they're sitting as one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. But you know the team that beat you in the Eastern Conference Finals? The Florida Panthers.

You know what they've done? They made moves this year. The New York Rangers, we've seen them add before the trade deadline.

Heck, they're trying to add more. In the second round of the playoffs, that's likely who you would face. It would be the New York Rangers. And you have to win that series going on the road. Because right now, the New Rangers are the top team in the metropolitan division.

We have seen these teams add. I said it after last season, that the Carolina Hurricanes need to be willing to go out there and make the big move. I even brought up the name Elias Pettersson last year.

Hey, go get that guy. The Florida Panthers two seasons ago, the 2021-2022 season, won the President's Trophy as the top team in the NHL for most points in the regular season. Top team in the NHL over 82 games. And they got eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. You know what they did?

They said, you know what? We got a really good team. We had the best regular season of any team in the NHL this past season. Okay, kind of stinks that we got eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. We can make a couple roster tweaks here and there. But you know what?

Let's run it back with this crew. Instead, they took one of their top players who played with the franchise for years. Jonathan Huberdoe. They traded him. A guy who was a 100 point scorer. Put up a 100 points. Carolina Hurricanes haven't had a 100 point guy since Eric Stahl in 2006. The Florida Panthers said, all right, Jonathan Huberdoe, I know you've been part of this franchise for a long time. You've wore a letter on your sweater.

Jack Drury drafted by this team. They made the moves through the draft, through bringing in prospects. That's where they were able to trade for a young guy like Tevo Terravainen. Okay, they did make some off-season splash moves trading for Brent Burns. They've made some trade deadline deals in the past. For example, they traded for Brady Shea just four years ago. They traded for Brady Shea. They have multiple first round picks going into the 2020 NHL draft. They use one of those to trade for Brady Shea who happened to have four years left on his contract. They traded for Vincent Trojcek from the Florida Panthers the year before that who have multiple years left on his contract. Those are the kind of moves that the Carolina Hurricanes make. They like to make quote unquote hockey moves, not the quote unquote rentals. Make the damn rental this year. There's a guy floating out there, Jake Genzel, for the Pittsburgh Penguins who's had playoff success, who has won Stanley.

His name is on the Stanley Cup. Who's had playoff success, 29 years old, that can play in your system and make your team better right now, that can push you to the top to win a Stanley Cup. Be willing to make the damn move. Yeah, you might have to give up your first round pick this year. You might have to give up one or if not two of your top young players, like your top young prospects. Maybe it's Ryan Suzuki. Maybe you trade him. Maybe it does require more teenagers. I don't know.

But there's a big time asking price for that guy. You know why? Because he can make your team better right now. What's the point of every NHL season? What's the goal? To win a Stanley Cup?

To have a parade in Raleigh? That's the goal. If you do not make a move, whether it's for Genzel, whether it's for Paweł Butzniewicz, someone that you can actually bring on your roster that can contribute and score goals for you right now without compromising your team in terms of your culture. And obviously, I know Rob Bryn Mawr, they have a tough defensive style in which they play. Jake Genzel can play that.

Because he's done it. That dude can skate. Like I can play physical.

And yeah, he can score. Make the move. Be willing to go all in. You've got a stack of chips in terms of draft capital, prospects and young players. The Canes have, depending on who you ask, have one of the top farm systems in the entire NHL. Time to go all in.

But you have the ability to make a move right now, whether it's for Jake Genzel, whether it's for Paweł Butzniewicz, one of these top end guys. You can make a move right now that's going to push your team over the top where you can go win a Stanley Cup. Because guess what happened to you last year? Yeah, you won through the first two rounds of the playoffs, but you didn't have Andrei Svechnikov. And what couldn't you do in the Eastern Conference Finals last year? You couldn't score.

You couldn't score. All those losses were one goal games. Two of them overtime. Games one and two at home, lost in overtime. Man, if they only had one more goal score.
