Matt Slick discusses the charismatic gifts, including miracles, healing, and prophecy, and how they demonstrate apostolic authority. He also explores the concept of Calvinism and predestination, arguing that God chooses people for salvation and that free will is not the sole determining factor. The discussion also touches on the importance of spiritual gifts, including prophecy, and how they can be used for edification and exhortation.

etcetera. And he's been having having a series of of health issues and he's in the I guess the emergency right now. I don't know.

Something wrong with his eye. Just lift him up, Charlie. Just lift him up. And since we're talking about that as also, we have a missionary in Nigeria. And we have our Friday morning meetings, which was this morning, and so he was informing us of what's going on in the outskirts of Nigeria.

That they're um There's a lot of killings going on uh by the Muslims who are coming in and is is just murdering people and uh forcing them uh out of their homes, burning churches, burning homes. Um doing bad stuff I can't even say with a radio And uh Forcing people to bow to Islam and to the false God of Islam, the false prophet of Islam. This is the uh the religion of peace.

Okay. I want to ask a Muslim, what is it about the Quran? Your holy book that apparently justifies so much uh killing. from Muslims all over the world. And so you can pray about that as well.

And if you want to give me a call, all you got to do is dial 8772072277. Six. You can also send me an email to info at carm.org. Info at CARM.org. And um And I'm thinking about something, and for this I'll be lying radio comment radio question.

All right, what I'm thinking about is uh Hi, that's how I can explain this.

So I field test a lot of my stuff. That what that means is I go to uh venues and I have live discussions on a host of topics. And what it does is it allows me to polish approaches polish ideas, And then I can work on improving them, finding weaknesses, etc. and by the hands and the help of the unbelievers who say That's not true. We don't think this.

We teach that. Whatever it is. And I shore up arguments. And one of the things I've been working on. It's interesting, and I'm still producing the results, but I'm working on an argument.

On against Eastern Orthodoxy, Roman Catholicism, demonstrating that they don't have apostolic authority, because the apostolic authority of Matthew 10, 1 through 8 consists of five things that God assumed that Jesus gave to the apostles, and that is casting out demons. Healing every kind of disease, every kind of sickness, raising the dead, and cleansing lepers. And I said, You guys aren't doing those things, and you don't have absolute authority. That's a short version. And one guy said, Well, yes, our church is doing those things.

And I said, Would you have any documentation for that? And he said, Yes, I do. He said, really?

Well, he sent me some documentation, and I'm going through it. And uh Oh my goodness. They are so desperate. I just gotta say they're so stinking desperate. Um So he sent me in the first century three people where something miraculous happened.

And uh the first century list, not it wasn't isn't even apostolic work. It's just so one guy said gold letters were appearing on his heart after he died. Yeah. Just stuff like this. Uh Which is not an apostolic gift.

Or one, he says, supernatural fear came upon people.

Well, that's not an episode.

So that's causing me. to go through the scriptures and list out all of the apostolic gifts. of demonstrating their authority.

Now, as I'm doing this, I'm having to realize that there's different categories, even with the apostles' authority. They could govern churches, they could write scripture. Things like that. But we're talking about the the giftings That demonstrate their apostolic authority. And out of Second Corinthians 12, Yeah.

Paul says that the signs of the apostolate are miracles and wonders, signs and wonders. That's the thing.

So I'm actually working on, and I haven't finished it yet. Is a side article dealing with that. And then I have to come back to this article uh on apostolic Apparently, miracles from these churches. Oh my goodness. And uh So the guy provided me documentation, allegedly.

I may or may check a few just to see.

So, as I go through and I look at the apostolic authority, I see. things like uh healing sickness and uh teaching doctrine. and governance over a church. Sending the Holy Spirit, things like that.

So, what I meant to do, how many do I have of this? A lot of research. Let's see, how many is that? The number I have is 49 that I've found in Scripture. And now I'm going to have to go through and categorize each one and see what kind it is and just learn.

This is what I do, I learn like this. And it takes me one to two hours just to categorize stuff like this. I have to put everything into a table and then I produce table research. Then I summarize it, then I come back with that, and I'll come back to the other article and say, which category, if any, do any of these so-called miracles of the so-called church's authority exist? And then.

I'm going to say, how many is that per year? I'm going to do all this stuff. And for me, the nerd that I am, I enjoy doing that kind of thing.

So for me, that's fun. And uh that's what I'm rocking it. That's what I'm working on. For some of you, you're probably saying, I'm glad it's you and not me. Amen to that, because I enjoy it.

Mm-hmm. You know, if someone said to me, hey, I've got tickets to... I don't even know in baseball. I don't even know what a good position is. In the stands.

I don't even know. I don't know.

They said, hey, we've got these great positions.

Okay, that's good. Where's that? I don't even know. Honestly, I don't. They said, You want to go to a game, or would you rather research and categorize historical charismatic gifts from these alleged apostles from documents given to you by a heretic?

I go, Oh man, there's no competition. I know what I want to do, and it's not going to watch a bunch of guys swing it at balls thrown at them. You know, it's not my idea of a good time.

So. Yeah, so I got issues. You have to say to my wife before she passed away, I'd say things like, Hun? Um Do you think I'm normal? Setting myself up, you know.

Just it's like, here, here, here, here's carte blanche. Just insult the crud out of me, please. Hey, hon, do you think I'm normal? And so, you know, and you know, and so her head would turn towards me, her eyebrows would go up, and her eyes would bulge out. And I go, Okay, here it comes.

I just gave her a wide open door to walk through. And she goes, Well, then she just hits me with this stuff.

Well, I wouldn't exactly say normal. And she's being polite, you know, she'd be polite. You've got some unusual. Interests, and I'm cracking up. I said, So you haven't answered the question yet.

You just think I'm normal. She goes, Well, there's different definitions of normal.

So, so I'm cracking up because it's just like, hey, hey, hon, you want to want a free session to insult me? Here you go. And so, uh, I'm making myself laugh over this stuff. Anyway, uh, Yeah, I think it's a member. I still remember her face looking at me like, are you seriously asking me that?

Do you know what you're asking? You know, it's just. Yeah, make it to free for all.

So, anyway. She politely lambasted me on that one. And after tucking my tails between my legs, I go, Okay, thanks, huh? I'll be back later with some more questions. And she goes, I can hardly wait.

So, anyway, all right, I'm having fun. I'm having fun. But yeah, definitely not normal. Yeah, that's okay. Because God uses abnormal people to accomplish all kinds of things.

Let's get to Kyle from North Carolina. Kyle, welcome, you're on here. Hey, Matt, thank you very much. I agree that God uses abnormal people. I think that's great.

Yes, he does.

Okay. So, what do you got, buddy? I had a. I I watched you on uh Apologetics Live talking about the charismatic gifts and you brought up how How the the ten gifts given to Rebecca because she was the church. I'm going to butcher this, but she was the church and Isaac was the type of Christ.

And then you went to the New Testament with the ten with the nine gifts, and then you said one of them was salvation. And I was just hoping you could go into that a little bit more and maybe how you figured that out Yes, I learned this typological relationship from Chuck Missler about the issue of Abraham and Isaac going up to the hill. It took three days to get there. Jesus is in the grave three days. Isaac says, Where's the sacrifice?

Abraham says, God will provide for himself the sacrifice. You know, the ram caught in the thicket of thorns, things like this, all this stuff. And the typology is there. I'm trying to find it. Typology, let's see if I can find Abraham and Isaac.

Because uh I wrote about it and it says we moved to the new site. Let's see. Let's see if I got it listed here. Yes, I do. And it's under the article, Why Did God Tell Abraham to Kill His Son Isaac?

So just since I'm talking about it, God said to Abraham, take your only begotten son. Offer him on a hill, a lot of scholars think it's the same hill. took a donkey to the place of sacrifice. Two men went with them up the hill. To the hill.

Three-day journey, Jesus in the grave, three days.

Son carried wood on his back up the hill. God will provide for himself the lamb. that both the sons were offered on the wood. Ram caught in a thicket of thorns, Jesus bore that crown of thwarts. It says the seed will be multiplied.

That's exactly what it is in Christianity. Abraham went down in Genesis 22:19. It doesn't say Isaac went down. It just says Abraham went down.

Now, Isaac did, because he wasn't killed, but it's just a linguistic omission. Servant gets a bride for the son. And the bride's a beautiful virgin, the servant offered ten gifts. And these ten gifts are found in Romans 12 and I think we're almost fourteen also. And so, okay.

So what I did was, knowing all of this, I went through and I said, okay, what are these gifts? And I wanted to see if the typology holds. And so, what I did was, I went to, it's been a while, so this is from memory, 1 Corinthians 12. And we have uh things like uh a fetting of miracles. And I noticed something.

A miracle is something worked by the Holy Spirit. But administration. You know, you got you can keep the books. That's not a Holy Spirit-enabled gift. Like miracles and prophecy, distinguishing of spirits, kinds of tongues, interpretation of tongues.

This is out of 1 Corinthians 12, 10, 11. It talks about the Spirit of God distributing them as He wills. And uh So Now, the Holy Spirit will give these things, and various things are appointed, but only a few of them, I found out, nine. were charismatic. Uh In 1 Corinthians 12 and 1 Corinthians 14, where gifts are lifted out: interpretation of tongues, prophecy, word of wisdom, word of knowledge, discerning of spirits.

I found nine of them. And since when Abraham and Isaac came down from the hill and they went to the well. That very well I've actually drank water out of, by the way, it's just a fun trivia thing. Ten camels of gifts were given to the bride.

So ten camels of gifts. Gifts to the church. I found nine. We'll get back to break. We'll continue with this.

Hey, if you're interested, folks, please stay tuned. Be right back after these messages. Please stay tuned. It's Matt Slick Live, taking your call at 877-207-2276. Here's Matt Slick.

Robin, welcome back to the show. If you want to give me a call, all you got to do is dial 877-207-2276. Kyle. You still there, brother? I am here.

Thank you.

Alright.

So, so anyway, as I was saying, I found nine. And it puzzled me. Because well, there's nine listed in Corinthians and Romans.

Well, it's supposed to be ten. because that's the typology.

So I then went and looked at the word charisma in different contexts. and discovered. That in Romans 6:23, the wages of sin is death, but the free gift, charisma. the free gift of God is eternal life. and the light went on.

Well, of course that's a charismatic gift. Because its spirit empowered. And so then found that tenth. And it just makes perfect sense. And since I, you know, I'm a Calvinist, slimy Calvinist, I believe in the continuation of all the gifts.

And for obvious reasons you heard, and this is one of them. This is one of them because the gifts are given to the church, not temporarily. It's like saying to the bride: here's the 10 gifts.

Okay, we're married.

Okay, good.

Now we'll take the gifts back. It just, you know, it doesn't work. It's permanent. And that's why the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 1:7 to the church of Corinth that you not lack any. characterismatic gift.

while you're waiting for the return of Christ.

So, okay. Do you have a Yeah, it is. Thank you.

Uh There's another um This is kind of related. In Acts 2:17, he says, or God says. In the last days, I'll pour forth my spirit on all mankind. Your sons and your daughters shall prophecy, and your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams.

Okay. Do you uh do the visions or the dreams fit into those charismatic gifts? Or how do you think those fit in? They aren't listed in the pastoral epistles type area as that. This is a fulfillment of Joel.

And it's the pouring forth of the Spirit.

Now, I would say, well, of course, that would seem like charismatically operated gifts. but it doesn't say there's gifts, as the other ones do. And so this says, I'll just pour forth the Spirit on all mankind. Not just the Jews. And the pouring of the Spirit results in the charismatic gifts that we have.

And this is, and also, when you go to Acts 2:38, for the people who need to listen to this. Peter said to them, Repent. Each of you baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Now some say that the gift of the Holy Spirit is salvation, but the context is the gifting is visions, dreams, speaking in tongues. And so I think that's what that is really dealing with there. But even as a side note, but it's a good comment you made there. Good comment.

Okay. Mm-hmm. I never uh I never noticed that before. Which? The uh That the context would mean that it was uh dreams and visions there for uh Acts two hundred thirty eight.

That's really cool. Yes, um I I suspect that that's what it is. It says the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Now, the reason I kind of hold to that, if you go to Acts 10:44, it says this. While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message. all the circumcised believers who came with Peter were amazed because the gift of the Holy Spirit. had been poured out on the Gentiles also. Four.

This is how they know. for they were hearing him speaking with tongues and exalting God.

So that's why I go, wait a minute, it looks like the gift of the Holy Spirit is the charismatic movement, because that seems to be what's going on in the book of Acts.

Now here's another question related to this. If what I'm saying is accurate, Then why isn't the Christian Church doing this today? Uh-huh. And I have a theory about that as well. I think it has to do with pre-tribulation rapture, premillennialism, and dispensationalism.

And that's from the non-Reformed camp. In the Reformed camp, because the cannons closed, we don't need anything like that anymore. And I think both views are inaccurate. That's me. You said just yeah, okay.

I'm sorry. Up ahead. You think that end times? when Jesus is going to come back is related to the charismatic gifts, then you would say? Yes, I I do.

I believe the charismatic gifts are still alive and still accessible to the church, not on the same level as the apostles. They had a certain kind of an apostolic authority and ability that was granted to them specifically. I can't tell you how many times I've heard stories over the years of people in varying missionary contexts where miraculous things have occurred. And I've experienced, I hate saying it this way: hey, look at me, I don't want to say that, but I have experienced charismatic movement before. and uh on two separate occasions.

And not that that makes it true, but okay, there we go. And so it's first hand, not secondhand. And there are people I've talked to over the years who said, Oh, yeah, miraculous things have happened, and they do. I can't help but think that because the gift movement is messy, if you go to 1 Corinthians 14, You know, allow two to three to speak at once and then keep quiet. You should know how to take care of this.

There's problems occurring in the Corinthian church. Right there. But it's okay to have those kind of problems. I look at his children that are growing up in the house, that come running from the back door to the front door, storming through, got bags in their heads, or bumping into stuff, knocking stuff over, and they're going out.

Well, having children is messy. And things get broken, things aren't perfect. But that's because there's life going on. And I think that what we want to do is have God in a doctrinal box, a lot of us, and have doctrine just beat it out like a poker game. Here, I'll raise you this, I'll raise you that.

This is what we're going to do, who's going to win this argument. And we don't want to have those movements of the gift around us as much because it is messy and it'll mess up certain doctrinal things. And plus. And rightfully so, there's wacko morons on the charismatic side swinging from chandeliers saying, God told me this one thing about blah blah blah, you know, and all the stupidity. And I think the solution for both is to submit everything to the Word of God and say, if we're going to do this, do this.

As it says, and it says in 1 Corinthians 14, sorry I'm going, but it says 1 Corinthians 14:1, it says, pursue the spiritual gifts. It tells us, it commands us to do it. And I raised this, if you heard a discussion, I raised it two or three times. What do you guys do with the commands of Scripture to seek these things? And no one ever addressed it.

So Yep. Can I ask one more question? You just did. Oh, I did ask a couple. Right.

Okay. Go for it. We have nobody waiting, so go ahead. Shh.

Okay. Um about uh prophecy, what He says in fourteen three that it's for edification and exhortation. But I was just wondering your definition on prophecy And uh if it at all means Predicting the future, or if it just means to edify people from with scripture, or That's a debated issue. I can't give you a definitive answer. And some say that prophecy is simply speaking forth the word of God.

And so It says in 1 Corinthians 14. Uh it says, What will profit you unless I speak to you either by way of revelation or of knowledge or of prophecy or teaching?

Well, what do we say prophecy is there? Is it prophetic predicting the future? Or is it just proclaiming the Word of God? But that would seem. To be a bit redundant because prophecy or teaching.

If prophecy is proclaiming the word of God, that's what teaching is.

Now, hold on, okay, we got more when we get back to the break, all right, buddy. Hey folks, we'll be right back after these messages. We have three open lines. If you go ahead and give me a call, 877207. 2276 be right back.

It's Matt Slick Live, taking your calls at 877-207-2276. Here's Matt Slick. All right, and welcome back to the show. We have three open lines at the bottom of the hour on this nice Friday. If you want to give me a call, the number is 8772-7722.

zero seven two two seven six. All right, Kyle, are you still there? I am here, thanks. All right, now I left it with this issue of prophecy or of teaching, and I left it with the idea that prophecy and teaching are similar if. Prophecy is simply a forth telling.

However, In 1 Corinthians 14, 3, which is three verses earlier, but one who Prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation.

So this would then. suggest that the prophecy is a form of teaching, but more of an of an exhortation where the body of Christ is really edified by that spirit anointed work that the God would give, or we might call it unction. where sometimes When I preached many, many times, of course, I used to be a pastor and pulpit supply in Southern California. And there'd be times when you get down to the pulpit and you go, well, you know, I think it was a good message. You know, it was accurate, it was truthful.

And there's other times when it's like, man, I felt the presence of God during that message. And people would confirm it. And I think that is the kind of thing that this is more talking about.

So I think the prophetic aspect is valid as well because it occurs by Agabas in Acts 11. He prophesies about Paul and stuff like that.

Okay. Why do stop there? Right.

Right.

I uh it I was in fourteen twenty four it says, uh if uh if uh all prophecy and an unbeliever enters, he is convicted by all, he's called to account by all, the secrets of his heart are disclosed. Maybe that's part of it. Yeah. And then, yeah, and I agree. And then two verses earlier: so then tongues are for a sign not to those who believe, but unbelievers.

But prophecy is a sign not to unbelievers, but to those who believe.

So, this is, I think, more evidence for the idea that prophecy there is not just a prophetic future foretelling, but a an unction spirit Amplified, gifted movement where the word of God is presented forth out of the context of what 1 Corinthians 14 seems to say.

Okay. Okay. Well, thank you very much. I get a lot out of your show. I enjoy listening to you.

Well, good. Good. Um And you know thanks. I'm sorry, but One more thing because you got me going on this, okay? It says in 1 Corinthians 14:1, pursue love, yet earnestly desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may.

Prophesy.

Now, what do we do with that? Because that's the edification, exhortation, and consolation.

So then. Can Non-pastors do it. it would seem to be the case. You see? How how do you uh how could it be non-pastors?

How do you say that? Yeah. Because it says did the Corinthians desire these spiritual gifts? And the gifts are listed down there that is called pneumatikos in the Greek, or pneumatikoi in the Greek. They're spirituals.

It's kind of how it is. And there's different things listed, but none of them are said to be only of clergy or of elders. There's a whole group of things speaking in tongues, word of knowledge, word of wisdom. And this, I think, would naturally include women who could then, I would have no problem personally in light of this, in a church, say I was preaching. And I wouldn't let him do it and interrupt a sermon unless it was really something that I thought was important.

But after the sermon, if a man or a woman had a word, we might call it a word of knowledge, but they call it prophecy. And this is why we don't it's hard to say which is what. But if someone, even a woman, said this, I'd say, Okay, what have you got? And be open to that, to see that the elders and us judge, as the Bible talks about. I'm open to these kinds of things simply because of what the scriptures say.

I don't follow a denominational creed. I'm not obligated to a denominational sign here contract.

So, because of that, I'm open to women doing that. They can't be pastors and elders. That's a. That's non-negotiable. But, um Right.

So there you go.

Okay, there's a lot of stuff here. It's it's a lot of stuff. It's a lot of stuff. Yeah, it is.

Okay. And I'm not sure how to do all of it. I'm not sure what it is. You know, what's a word of knowledge? I think once I had a word of knowledge on somebody.

And it was at a swap meet ministry with my friend Dave Kimball, who I still know. And this guy comes up. And this is the only time I remember this happening like this. And this guy comes up to me, I still remember it. and uh he starts talking to me and boom I just knew I just knew what this guy's problem was with the Lord.

and I told it to him. But I was Sure, that's what it was. It wasn't like I think it was. No, this is what it is. And you could see that this guy was visibly shaken.

He really was. He was shaken up by it. He literally stumbled. backward. His eyes bugged out.

And he stumbled as he walked away. He was obviously very affected. And this presence I felt during that just disappeared after that. I'm like, I turned to my friend, Dave, what is that? And he said, I said, Did you feel that?

And he goes, Yes. I felt that too. He says, What was it? I don't know what that was. And he told me later that while it was occurring, there was a shimmer.

around me. And I'm not trying to, I'm not saying, hey, look at me. No, no, no. I'm just saying this. That's what he said.

It's the only time it's ever happened and it was a he said it was like uh the mirage, you know, on the wave when you look down a road and the heat and it kind of shimmers at the at the base, you know, the road. And he says it was like that uh around me. I said, Are you serious? He goes, Yes Bob.

Okay. But what do you do with that? I I don't know what to do with it. And another time, I'm just telling you this, another time, this lady named, a young woman named Tony, was going to go on a mission. And I didn't know that, but she needed a book.

I was taking her home from a Bible study and went back to my place and I gave her this book I had, and she told me that she's going to go on a mission to Australia. In two weeks, and I said, just out of nowhere. I just knew, and I said, you're not going to go. You're not going to do your mission, you're going to stay. And you are going to meet a guy in five months.

In 18 months, you and he are going to have a special bond and you're going to do mission work together. Two weeks later, she got on a plane and went to Australia. But the next day she was back, She got off the plane and and said she wasn't supposed to be there. She just knew it. Five months later she met this guy.

He became her spiritual mentor. At eighteen months they got married and they went to England together to do mission work. And she said to me before she left, she goes, Matt, everything you prophesied came true.

Now, I have no way, as I say these kinds of things, I don't like talking about them because I don't want anybody to think, look at me, I'm gifted. That is not it. If anything and the only thing is God condescended to use a jerk, moron, to speak something forth at the time it was needed. That's the best I got. But in light of that, What do we do with these things?

Because this is not hearsay. This is. First person. And I've talked to people who've had first-person experiences like this as well.

Something's going on, and I believe that the Spirit of God is alive and well, but too many of us don't want Him to visit us that way, to have visions and dreams and words of knowledge and words of wisdom. Because it's messy. Scary. What do we do? It's more comfortable to simply do your job for forty hours a week.

go to Sunday uh service, sit in the back, sit in the front. pay a tithe by a check. and go to a restaurant. And get served and go home. And that's our Christianity.

I'm oversimplifying, but this is comfortable. and we crave comfort and regularity. And if we go to a church where things aren't regular and comfortable, people tend to shy away. But I think If the miraculous was occurring like this, which I think is going to more and more. as the church comes under persecution.

With the rise of the false religion of Islam, the false religions of Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy, the rise of Mormonism, atheism, secularism, paganism of different forms. And the ungodliness of people using God's name in vain, saying that adultery is called an affair, people living together, people denying Christ, all of these demonic things that are alive and well in the world. We Christians are comfortable. And we don't need the spirit of movement upon us because we have what we need in our air conditioning, our locks, and our remote controls. But when this topples, we're going to then need to rely on the Spirit of God, and that's when things will get messy, and that's when people's hearts will break open, and that's will depend on him more and more, just like they did in the book of Acts.

Okay. That's what I think. Do you think we'll probably have more of these these gifts as we as the church undergoes more persecution then? Yep. You know, the it seems to be that the charismatic movement occurs during missionary stuff when the ground is being broken.

You get words, you get knowledge.

Now, I've had a few other instances that have occurred in my life. where Hmm. What was that? And not lately, and there's some stuff I've never told anybody. And I've never said it over the radio either.

But um Uh there's stuff. And I just wonder. I just wonder, I don't know if you want to stay on, but we got a break.

So well, thanks very much. God bless. All right, man. God bless. Hey folks, we'll be right back after these messages if you want.

Stay tuned. 877-207. Two two seven six. right back. It's Matt Slick Live, taking your calls at 877-207-2276.

Here's Matt Slick. Hey, everybody, welcome back to the show. It is the last segment of the hour. If you want to give me a call, all you got to do is dial 8772072276. James Dee from North Carolina.

Welcome. You're on the air.

Okay. Thank you.

I really enjoy your show. I wish you would come on at 3 in the morning sometime. But maybe I can get you on the phone or something. I mean, on the website. I love your show.

I really do. Thank you.

Yes, that's between six and seven here in good old Durham, North Carolina. I'm calling you from the Truth Network. I think you already met up and all that. But let me get to my question. Yeah.

Wasn't it Robert? Whatever his name is, I know he. Stu, thank you. Yeah, but my thing is, and I want clarity. When you say that it's with the Calvinism, I don't even know what that is.

I think you had explained it like last week, but I was working on something and I couldn't get a pen to write it down. And then you said that we've already been chosen. Those that people have already been chosen who's going to come into the kingdom. Yes. And you it was, you said something else.

You gave some good scriptures, and I was wanting to get those scriptures. 'Cause I've always believed if I'm gonna say it real quick, and I'm I'm I wanna give my condolence about your wife. I I haven't called you since since 2000. Yeah. So it's been a while.

but I I know, it's been a while, I've been dealing with some stuff, but um I've lost love mem love loved ones too, so I just wanted to tell you, I I feel it, I know, and I know they're in glory, but getting back to 'cause I know looking at the time, 'cause I mean and you're really good about putting people in their place and not letting them take over the show. I love that about you. That's why I like uh I do have a question, but you do have like I could go on karm dot org and hear you over and over, right? I think I'm not even sure how it works. We have people who work it up.

Maybe Laura can put some text information in the text and I can but I think if you go to carm.org forward slash radio, I think Slash radio, that's what you said. Yeah. 'Cause if you come on, I'll be trying I try to have everything ready, but then I had a pin that didn't work. Real fast. But I love the the Calvinist.

I love that when you're saying, because I'm just going to share this real quick. I always knew, even in my teen, that man would as crazy as man is, you think God would put it up to h them to decide when they come to knowing it come to know Jesus. I just could not make no sense of it. They can't even y uh get some simple stuff straight.

So you mean to tell me your eternal salvation, he's gonna let Man, Adam and Eve, everybody, Adam and Eve, he had everything. And he didn't even step up to the plate. You know? That's right. And he was good.

He didn't take it. He was even a sinner and he blew it. That's right. Yeah. So, I mean, come on.

We have this discussion at my job all the time, you know. And I like to go in there with both barrels blasting. I think you said it a while, a long time ago, or somebody said it. I don't know.

It was on the Truth Network, which I loved. But that's what I was calling to hear about Calvin. And get those scriptures. You gave like, I think you gave about 10 of them.

Okay, yeah, I've done it now.

Sorry, I've been doing it for a long time. And by the way, if you want to see the shows and some other stuff, thanks, Laura. Just go to the Carm website and just type in Matt Slick Live, and then it'll come up with links. And uh and stuff like that.

Okay, so what Calvinism is, is it's unfortunate it's after a guy named John Calvin in the 1500s. But he was a brilliant young man. By the age of 27, he'd written a book called The Institutes of the Christian Religion. And it's phenomenally brilliant. Seriously.

This guy was. IQ of 8,000, you know, that kind of thing. And the Institutes of the Christian Religion is one of the most influential books in the last 1,000 years, and that is not an exaggeration. Because it became a foundational movement in what's called Presbyterianism or foreign theology, which shaped a lot of Western civilization and the Presbyterians who came over from Europe to America. They were, and America is influenced largely out of this heritage, but anyway.

So, what we talk about is the idea that God predestines, He elects people, chooses them for salvation, and predestines them. And we know this is true because 2 Thessalonians 2:13 says, God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation. It says it. And so Acts 13:48, as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed. And so we can go to all kinds of verses, like John.

I do this with people, I show it to them. John 1:12.

Now, a lot of Christians don't like this stuff. Even though I'm reading scripture to them, they want to resist it. Because they have a faulty understanding of the sovereignty of God. Oh, man, we're waiting on the Jetsons to come and get us out of here anyway.

So, you know, you shared that a long time ago, about two or three weeks. I guess I listen to you. I try to listen to you every day.

So, I'm, you know, nothing surprised me. They're just sitting there not doing, just waiting on God to come get me out of here, lift me out of here, you know, beam me up, King Jesus.

So, I mean, you know, it is what it is. Yeah, it's unfortunate. Continue. But so it says very unfortunate. In John 1:12 and 13, it says, But as many as received him, we do receive Christ, okay?

To them he gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in his name. And we do the believing. Yeah. Who were born, the context is being born again, receiving Christ, okay? Who were born not of the blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man.

But of God I have read that a hundred times. I never saw that about not of the will of me. I read that ever since I was a little girl, a teenager. Yeah. That's what it says.

I show people stuff, and they don't like what I show them in scripture because they're serving the blonde-haired, blue-eyed Caucasian surfer Jesus, dressed in a woman's nightgown, standing at the door of your heart, asking permission for you to let them in.

Okay? Yeah, the chosen dude, right? That shuffle. Yeah, the chosen dude, yeah.

Now check this verse out, John 6:65. This is scripture from Jesus. John 6:65. He says, For this reason I have said to you that no one can come to me unless it has been granted him from the Father.

Okay, you can't come to Christ unless God grants it to you. That's it People say it's all up to your free will. It's about this gets me.

Okay, I'm going to just offend people, but hey, this is what scripture says. People want to say it's me, me, me. I'm the one in my sin. I was able, smart enough, I was wise enough with God's help. I figured it out, and I need Jesus.

That's not how it works. You're born again not of your own will. And then God says, or Peter says in 1 Peter 1:3, God causes you to be born again. It says He causes it. And You know, John 1, 12, and 13, it's not of the will of man.

And then Jesus says in John 6:65, you can't come to me unless it's granted from the Father. And in John 6, 45. John 6, 44. It says, everyone who has heard, no, it's going to be 44. No one can come to me unless the Father who sent him draws him.

But the word draw. It's often used as drag. Dragging something in. For real. For real, it really is.

It's Helkuo. To drag, although it may be just implied, a person, to drag, force before magistrates, drag out of the temple, to draw or induce. This is strong language. Jesus says, This is the work of God that you believe on Him who has sent. Yeah, and that's John 629.

When I show people this stuff, And they don't like it. And when I saw it, People started telling me early on in my early Christian life. I didn't like it either. Because I have been taught it it's just up to me. It's all that's what's fair, is what's up to me.

Oh, I have to call back, I guess, Monday because we're not I'm gonna stay on this one. I had um you just hit a hit a uh a nerve, a Holy Ghost nerve in me. I grew up on the word of faith, but I'm gonna I'm gonna be obedient 'cause I listened to the radio show and I'm gonna stay on course. You said, Call back next week. I love when you tell people, Call back next week and all that.

But Okay, but the thing was, did you have any more scriptures or w w is that? Oh, I can go on and on. I can go on f I could teach like this from memory for an hour.

Okay, I can go on. Two, three, four, five. There's a lot. I know I do quite a bit of stuff. But I'll start with that and because I got a a good concordance and I think the blue letter Bible, I got it on my phone.

I have this one. I want this what they call it. We call it booyah in my in my neighborhood. What about the one that said whosoever? You know, you always throw that in there.

Whosoever, let him come. That's right. Whosoever. And then whoever comes, come.

Well, then, how do they come? Jesus says, You can't come to me unless you're dragged from the Father. You can't come to me unless it's granted from the Father.

Well, okay, whoever comes is one granted and drawn by God. It's simple.

Okay. Okay, so you're dealing with you're talking someone from the word of faith.

So when we say when he said whosoever because the Father is dragging you into the kingdom, and that whosoever is relating to the ones that he's already dragging. Whosoever. That's right. That's what it is. I always.

Okay. Makes very s good sense to me, you know. I'm going to stand on the word. 'Cause I'm like, I like I read Genesis sometimes to people and I'm like, look, he ain't have enough sense to he had to he'll hide himself.

So I know I'm like, come on, let's go to the the I'm a gardener, I always go to the root of the situation. I always go to the root of stuff. Stay with Genesis 3. You won't go wrong.

Well, I do appreciate that. And we just love your show. And once again, I condolence about your girlfriend. Your girl's in heaven. And I know your beautiful wife.

And thank you. Like everyone says, just keep doing what you're doing. Keep the chorus. Because, I mean, you are good. You are awesome.

People be trying to get you off the straight and narrow. Get you all in the deep end of the pool. We call it Duke University Pool over here. Not Matt. I told this one, not Matt Slick.

Oh, no.

Some guy named Slick. It just doesn't sound good. Oh, okay. That's the way it is. All right.

Well, there you go.

Okay, thank you. I'll call again. Thank you.

All right.

Thank you.

God bless. All right.

Good stuff, good stuff.

Now the next longest waiting is Lovins from Florida. Lovins, welcome. You're on the air.

Hi, Mike. your website, Can Daddock, has really helped me. It's almost like I have a two year degree of theology. The amount of research I go into And the amount of stuff I return So, you know, I would not say take him. But I have a.

Mm, see. It's okay. Yeah, I have a um I have a personal issue that Is going to relate to a question that I have for you.

Okay, we got about a minute. And it has really so we gotta go, but go ahead. Yeah. Okay. I I I've been married for ten, you know, eleven years now.

So last year I discovered my wife was having an affair with a gentleman that she met Okay. Committing adultery twenty something years ago. Um. And now I'm just Huh? I just don't know what exactly what to I'm Okay, hold on.

We have just less than a minute.

So, did she commit adultery while she was married to you? Yes. Okay. And you just found out? I found out like in February, late February, two or a dream that I had.

And in the dream, I had a voice. Did she confess it? Did she confess it? Yeah. She confessed it.

Okay, so she did.

Okay, hold on. We're going fast because we're almost out of time.

Okay. And so, is she a Christian? She is.

Okay. You need to go to your church. You need to talk to the elders. We're out of time. I could get into a lot more, but I've only got 15 to 20 seconds.

Go to your church, go to your elders, lay this out, what your desires are, what you want. You have the right. uh to divorce but not the obligation. You could forgive. If she's repentant, you want to save marriage, you can do that.

That's godly, it's biblical. But if she's unrepentant, you have the freedom to be able to divorce. And the elders need to be involved with all this kind of stuff. And we're out of time. I wish I could get into that.

That's just the overview, okay? But there's more to it. All right.

Okay, I wish I would call you back for an answer. All right.

Thank you.

All right.

All right, man. God bless. All right, Brent from North Carolina.

Sorry about that, Brent. Call back Monday. May the Lord bless you all by His grace. We'll back on the air on Monday, Lord Wellen, and we'll talk to you then. Have a great, great weekend.
