I was getting ready to tell you about everything that we discussed and everything that we are going to get into. You know, in about 10 minutes or so, we're going to have a conversation with Lindsay Rhodes.

She covers all things NFL. for Sumer Sports. If you were here with us last hour, We talked about quite a few things. Mostly, unfortunately, people and things losing in Philadelphia. The Eagles losing 34-17 to the New York Giants.

We had the Phillies eliminated from the postseason. The Dodgers sent them home packing. Oh well, they kinda sent themselves home packing. The game ended. On a throwing error Uh either way.

We got into a winner, okay? We talked about Shador. He's gonna do some winning. He's a back up quarterback. Never in my life did I think anybody, uh, being quarterback number two Would be an accomplishment, but for Shador, that means he is climbing the ranks.

We talked about Jackson Dart. And then Cam Scatterbu, these are two guys that New York Giant fans can hopefully root for for, I don't know, five to ten years. We'll see how that works. And now that we have another week of NFL action staring us right in the face. I do want to bring your attention to a few other games.

These are some games that are going to take place on Sunday that I am really, really looking forward to. How about this one? We have the Seattle Seahawks, who have a record right now of three and two. getting ready to take on the four and one, Jacksonville Jaguars. We saw what the Jaguars did on Monday.

You know, coming back to beat the Chiefs. We saw Trevor Lawrence, he was out there stumbling and bumbling. We saw their defense. The Jaguars defense leads the NFL in turnovers. Man, they got.

They got Patrick Mahomes out there throwing a pick six. And so what are they going to do? against the Seahawks.

Okay, Jackson, Smith, and Jigba. He's second in the NFL in receiving yards. I can't believe Sam Donald he's completing seventy three percent of his passes. I'm still expecting Sam Darnold uh to throw the damn ball to the wrong team. But this should be a good one.

Seattle also has a good run defense. What are they going to do against Travis Etienne Jr.? Are we really going to have a Jacksonville Jaguars team? that moves to five and one. There's something about the Jaguars.

That I still don't trust. Maybe it's in a hole. Trevor Lawrence. I will believe it when I see it. This man taking his game to another level.

in the postseason. I still see when the going has gotten tough. Trevor Lawrence is kinda just Walted. He hasn't lived up to expectations. Let's see if he takes his game.

to another level. Hey, you beat the Kansas City Chiefs? They've been at the top of the mountain for a long time. The Chiefs beat them eight consecutive times until they stopped it this past Monday. Let's see what they have in store.

This is going to be a good one. Jacksonville Jaguars. Seattle Seahawks. Mm. I wonder how this goes.

Their head coach Liam Cohen, appreciative of what they got going on, he says, you know what? We haven't even maxed out yet. Listen to this. I don't want to say we're the most pissed off four on one team, but like there's definitely some feelings in the building over the last few days of knowing that We have not still put out 60 minutes of our best football.

Okay.

Well, yeah, I would say so. Trevor Lawrence. Told you this guy has, what, six touchdowns and five interceptions so far in the season? He can't do better than that. People are saying, Oh, he's good, he's great.

Well, stop turning the football over, okay? Jacksonville Jaguars defense, they're known right now for forcing turnovers. And Mike McDonald, he says, yeah, that's something obviously we have to look out for. We got Sam Darnold. If you play with energy, balls tend to come to life, but you also have to have to you also have to have an awareness of when those ops come.

The fumbles have come both in ball and transition, extended plays, the quarterback.

So they're doing a good job of finding those ops and taking advantage of them. Bacha, am I a jerk when it comes to Sam Darnold? I feel like all of the hatred, not hatred, but like all of the criticism for Sam Darnold. is deserved. For what he'd started with the Jets.

What it was like in the Panthers. and what you saw late with the Vikings. Those might be great. You can't Just ignore four or five years of a guy's career. Yeah, I mean last year when the going got tough at the end of the season he just fell apart.

Okay, that big game against the Lions would have decided the division. Sam Donnell went out there. and stunk. Didn't do anything. When they finally went to the postseason, took on the Los Angeles Rams, he stunk.

He didn't do anything. And so, yeah, great. I'm happy right now, as it stands, Sam Donald has a great touchdown-in reception ratio: 9 to 3. You know, typically you think about Sam Donald, I'd be like, He got seven touchdowns and seven interceptions. But he's he's playing well right now, and I will give him credit.

I still would not trust him. with my life. I think Going into Jacksonville. The jags are running hot right now. I think the Jags are going to end up.

At at five and one. Don't drink the Kool-Aid.

Okay, I don't think this is a team that's going to go to the AFC championship game. But they're good. They're getting better. I mean, all the years, all the coaches, Trevor Lawrence, all the coordinators, it's due. It's due time for the Jacksonville Jaguars to have some type of stability.

So I'm looking forward to that game. On Sunday, another game. that I'm really looking forward to. and it's just to see how much more. the the Tampa Bay Buccaneers can go out there Indue.

Okay, the bucks are four and one. They're taking on the 49ers who are 4-1. We got Brock Purdy, who is out again. Ricky Pearsall is out again. We got to see Mac Jones.

He's questionable. We know he's going to play. They may have to put him out there on a wooden leg. Mac Jones is going to go out there and perform. And then the Buccaneers.

They were walking wounded as well.

Okay, we still got Mike Evans out with the leg. A godwin is is still coming back, coming off of that broken leg. It's not all good for the Buccaneers. I mean we got people. who are runnin' around saying Baker Mayfield with the year that he's having We got to put this guy as MVP.

And if the Buccaneers keep playing like this, That very well might be the case. Think about Baker Mayfield on the season. Ten touchdowns. One interceptions. One interception, see, not plural, one, and a whole lot of injuries.

I mean, even Bucky Irving. is not going to play with a busted up shoulder. Bucky Ivan does everything. He runs the ball, he receives the ball, and Baker Mayfield is still winning. even if it takes him all the way to the end of the game.

to kind of bounce back. Baker Mayfield. He says, you know what? Don't don't thank me. thank our offensive coordinator, Josh Quizzard.

I've said this, all play callers, the really good ones, great ones, whatever you want to say, adjust to their personnel. And we've had to do that with the rotation on the O-line, injuries at receiver, skill groups. And so he's done that, hasn't flinched. And that's a lot. That's a lot on his plate, but he's handled it really well.

Yeah, everybody's hurt. Everybody's hurt. His team is hurt. I told you about the 49ers. They're all hurt.

It's kind of nuts. It's kinda crazy. I told you about Mac Jones. He's questionable. Well, he's gonna play.

They may have to shoot this guy's leg up. He's gonna go out there and play. This is what Mac Jones had to say about, you know, making this happen through injury. I believe if you can protect yourself that you should be out there and playing and um a lot of guys are working through stuff. Um That's that's the NFL and I've learned that you just gotta be able to go out there and protect yourself.

Bacha, that dude was out there. He was playing his ass off. I got to give him credit. He was over there vomiting and throwing up. He was laying on the floor.

He had that gigantic leg brace on. This is your backup quarterback. They got to feed him to the wolves. They got no choice. I respect.

Mac Jones for doing this because In the NFL, you don't get many chances to prove what you're worth. I think putting your body on the line like he did That might earn him another contract somewhere. Even if he went bad the rest of the year. Most definitely. I mean, there were full conversations.

About whether or not Brock Purdy needed to be gone, even though they just gave him $50 plus million dollars. And oh, well, Mac Jones is a better performer than Brock Purdy.

Well, I mean. I I'm not prepared to do that. I think it's ridiculous. You give a guy 50 mil and people are having conversations about getting him out the door. But I'll say this: I agree with you, man.

Mac Jones is a. He's he's garnered himself away. a new set of believers out there. This is, I don't want to say a battle of the quarterbacks. I think Tampa Bay will ultimately win.

I mean, the injuries have to eventually. Catch up to San Francisco. Maybe we give Tampa the benefit of the doubt playing at home. This is what Todd Bowles had to say about these uh Early M V P candidate in Baker Mayfield? The mastery of the offense in his second year, I think, has really done a lot.

And them understanding and communicating what he likes, what he doesn't like and him just throwing to the open guys and making everybody better has really helped, and very proud of that. Yeah.

Well. Good luck to the Niners for uh Good luck to Christian McCaffrey. That guy's going to get ran into the ground again. Poor guy's probably going to have to end up right the hell back in Germany trying to get his body fixed. He is the 49ers offense right now.

I'm going to take Tampa Bay. To win at home. That's one game that I'm really looking forward to as well. And how about the night game? This should be fun.

The Detroit Lions who are four and one. taking on the Kansas City Chiefs who are two and three. We saw what the Kansas City Chiefs did on Monday night. Weren't able to get by Jacksonville. As a result, they do not or they are not tied.

A four-lead in the AFC West. And they're just th they're trying to show everybody You know, we can still roll. We're still championship contenders. They got to wait for Rashi Rice to come back. They got to wait for Xavier Worthy to be healthy.

But they're two and three. Can you ever count out the Chiefs from a game?

Okay, we know the lines, they're they're four and one. It just beat up on them bumass bangles. Detroit on a four-game winning streak. They're first in the NFL in scoring. They drop it about 35 a game.

Are the chiefs keeping up with them? I I don't I don't think so. I don't. Like it sounds crazy to look at the Kansas City Chiefs. to look at them at home.

and not pick them to win? I I just They're not the same squad. They're not. It sounds crazy. You look at a game with Jared Goff and Patrick Mahomes.

It's a pick Jared Goff just feels Dirty. to me. I'll tell you this. Patrick Mahomes? He's like, you know.

We gotta get better. Period. It doesn't matter if it's the beginning of the game, the end of the game. We just gotta get better. Just little things here and there.

We're just not making winning football plays in in certain moments. And if it goes down to the interception in the red zone that I throw, I mean, that's a fourteen-point swing. Talking about that pick six. against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ultimately I don't I don't know if the Chiefs right now have the firepower.

The Chiefs are going to have to get lucky with some defensive scores just on their own end. It this is not a This is going to be a Sunday night game. Maybe it's a fun one. Maybe it's a shootout. Maybe Detroit gets suckered into a shootout, but.

I I find it hard right now to look at the Kansas City Chiefs and go Hey, this squad is just gonna go out here and And light up the Lions, even if they happen to be at home. Looking forward to that one. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you, coast to coast, on the Infiniti Sports Network. You know, we just talked about three games, and I'm really looking forward to Seattle versus Jacksonville, San Francisco at Tampa Bay, and then Sunday night, Detroit at Kansas City. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. Joining us right now is someone to talk about all the games and maybe even what we saw last night. She joins us via Sumer Sports. It's Lindsay Rhodes. Lindsay, welcome back.

How are you? Hi, JR. I'm doing great. How are you? I'm excellent.

Thank you for taking the time. I guess just before we go a little bit around the world, we had Thursday night football. We'll get to that in a second. What are your thoughts on this matchup on Sunday night between Detroit and Kansas City? Detroit's still lining it up almost 35 a game.

Yeah, um Uh the one thing that I am maybe hyper-focused on in a way that's unhealthy. Um, is Kayler Decker's status going into this game? I think that it's going to be pretty important for the Lions. Because I think we're we all know, despite the fact that the Chiefs are two and three, that this is gonna be a a pretty good game and evenly matched in a lot of ways. And one of the things that we did a deep dive on at Sumer Sports this week, our entire podcast was dedicated to this was.

the drop off that happens when you lose a starting offensive tackle to injury. I think we all know, narratively speaking, that there aren't that many really good offensive tackles in the NFL. They're just hard to find for a ton of different reasons, one of which is You don't make humans that are that size and also that athletic at the same time. There aren't that many of those walking around the earth. But What we have found consistently when you take somebody like that out And we saw this at the Chargers last week too, that there are specific statistical patterns that develop.

One is that the quarterback's time to throw goes down quite a bit, and the time to pressure. uh goes down also, meaning it comes faster. And then the effect is that the average depth of target also comes crashing down because I think you can kind of figure all of this out, right? If the pressure's coming faster and the quarterback has to get the ball out, and there is less time for those longer developing routes. I'm keeping my eye on Jameson Williams in that regard, not necessarily wanting to fire him up in fantasy this week.

under those circumstances. But also Giovanni Manu, who was the guy who stepped in in Taylor Decker's place last week, was our lowest rated offensive tackle and pass block summer score last week, dead last. Exactly.

So we did see those numbers, all the numbers that I mentioned, their plummet, including the SAC rate. Their SAC rate on the season in the first four weeks of the year was three percent, and it went up to fourteen percent last week.

So I just think that's one thing that you can handle. You can metabolize it when you're playing the Bengals defense. But when you're playing the Chiefs and Chiefs Bagnolo, I don't really like that.

So I'm keeping my eye on Taylor Decker quite a bit for that one. Oh, so you think Jared Goff is going to be out there running for his life? Or getting the ball out quickly, because I think that they are smart enough to scheme around that, like they did last week. It's just How many offensive possessions you have to be hyper-efficient if you're going to throw the ball four yards, right? Like if your average depth of target is a four-yard depth of target as opposed to eight or nine.

Then just think about how many more plays you have to actually hit to move the ball down the field in order to score. And um so I just I just think it puts a lot more pressure on him. I think that they'll be able to do it. I just don't know that it's the most effective way Or to move the ball down the field against the Chiefs. I think you want more of those longer throws to be able to mix in.

I'm not sure they'll be able to. Lindsey Rhodes is here with us from Sumer Sports. Speaking of the Kansas City Chiefs, we know what their record is. We saw what took place against Jacksonville this past Sunday. It appears that, of course, they've taken a step back.

Is it right to kind of remove them as top of the line of Super Bowl contenders this year? I'm not doing that yet. And part of that reason has to do with the fact that, okay, so they're upside-down wind loss. you know, if you're banking on them to win the Super Bowl or go to the playoffs and go far, you don't like the fact that they're two and three right now for sure. But I think they played a majority of those games without Xavier Worthy.

And then they don't have Richard Rice. They'll put him back after this week.

So I think that for me, I just am kind of not ignoring the beginning of the season for them, but I just know that we've seen this pattern develop where they're concerned in the past. where we are unimpressed with the way they're getting there. But if they can get to the postseason, we kind of know that they have figured out a way to just put the pedal to the metal when the time comes. And to Come up with game plans and things like that that will get you to the end of the line. And I think the fact that they did not have those two weapons for such a long period of time kind of means that to me, I'm sort of throwing those games out in terms of my evaluation of them.

What I don't want to see happen, and they're certainly in danger of that happening. Happening this week with a very tough matchup against the Lions. You fall to two and four, and now we're having like a, is the hole too big to climb out of? How many games do you have to win in a row? That's my primary concern with the Ravens.

But the Ravens, I think, have shown us. A lot more reasons to be actually concerned, I think, than the Chiefs. There are less outs that I see for the Ravens. We know, Lindsay, that Lamar Jackson is going to be out of action again. This does not bode well for Baltimore as the Rams come into town and head their way into Baltimore.

What do you think happens at the conclusion of this season with the Baltimore Ravens? I think well, I obviously heard, as did you, the people who are pivoting to like move on from Harbaugh and all that kind of stuff. I would think that any kind of Like if if this season ends up where they are not able to turn things around and get to the playoffs and make a run in the playoffs, I think that that would be from where I sit like a step a step too far. I think that he's obviously proven in quite a number of ways that he's a really good head coach. And so I kind of want to just hit pause on a weird season like this.

I also want to point out how ridiculous their schedule has been.

So while the defense, yes, has fallen off a cliff in weird ways, like we're not seeing the defense out of Baltimore that we're used to seeing, there are valid concerns with regards to the Ravens. But also, from a statistical standpoint, when you look at their schedule and the fact that they have played. Gosh, the other three. Uh uh aside from them AFC division winners from last year. and the number one team to come out of the NFC last year in the Lions, and then this week, the number one team this year in yards per play differential.

Like they literally have only played one game against a non elite team from last year or this year, like putting them together. Their schedule out of the gate has been wild. Like someone in the league office hates them and or wanted to set them up for a dramatic run because their season does ease up, their schedule eases up a lot starting next week.

So hopefully they're able to get Lamar back. And you know, put start start putting things together and maybe figure it out on defense, but I guess For me, I'm not yet ready. I think we're still so early in the season. I'd like to see Lamar back on the field before I start rushing to new judgment there.

Well, Lindsay is speaking of the AFC North. We have this matchup between Cleveland and Pittsburgh. We'll see Dylan Gabriel. Me specifically, I think a lot of people in Cleveland are just waiting to see Shador get his chance and opportunity, and then on the other side of the field I can't believe we got Aaron Rodgers in the NFL. Things have been rather quiet on the end with him.

Yeah, that's kind of a welcome change, I think, probably for Pittsburgh more than anyone else, right? Like, we're not seeing those. weekly appearances on Pat McAfee. Um, that I think just give a lot of people on the outside ammunition, right? And so I think it's I think it's um ideal.

You brought up Shadur. Like in a perfect world, I think you want your quarterback of all people in the building I mean to speak up certainly but but almost Primarily football related, like you just don't want to invite other conversations into the building because. I mean, the distraction conversation is, you know, can go in a bunch of different directions. And certainly anybody talking about whatever they want to talk about, whatever they feel passionately about, in the case of Aaron Rodgers, that's valid. It's just there are repercussions.

It really does bring a weird onus into the building. And so that's been a welcome change, I think, from my perspective. Um, I'm I'm really, I'm sort of still waiting to see.

something from the Steelers. He's been very efficient. Aaron Rodgers and I think But I also think that his play has been consistent with what you see from older quarterbacks. When their play starts to decline in a way, like just physically, when you get to a certain age, it is harder to do the same things that you have done. for your whole life.

What we do see here is that They've brought the average depth of target way down. He has the lowest average depth of target for every quarterback in the NFL. It's at five right now.

So they're consistently throwing short. And then maybe just taking advantage of every once in a while forcing him to push the ball down the field, but not at a rate where his arm starts to see a drop in accuracy. I think that that's a really smart strategic approach to that and just understanding that He's going to get the ball out fast. He can read the defense. His mind is still top notch.

Um and so I think that that's a smart approach for them, but much the same way that I was talking about with the Lions without Taylor Decker, when you bring that average depth of target down, it just forces you to do so much more, right? And so I do have some concerns about them and what I've seen from them so far, even though they've had some. success in the win loss column, I just don't know how competitive they're going to be against those better teams when they need to be. And I fear for the Steelers that they might be looking at another season, much the same as we've seen from them in years past, where they're kind of just over five hundred. And yet it's not enough to really do what the Steelers fans want, which is to make a strong run in the postseason.

Yeah, we know that their fans are like, hey, good enough isn't good enough for us. We know that Aaron Rogers is is closer to the end, pretty much there at the end. than he is to the beginning, but Baker Mayfield is right in his prime. I mean, people are talking about Baker Mayfield for for MVP. There's so many injuries on the offense.

What are your thoughts on Baker Mayfield? Do you think he's going to be able to sustain this potentially towards an MVP? I Do I believe Baker and the the box are one of the kind The team fit. I thought in the beginning of the year I was a little bit confused about the way we were talking about them. And by we, I mean like narratively everyone going into fantasy drafts, that kind of stuff.

There was so much expectation for regression there. And I did not understand that necessarily. I understand statistical regression when something is so outliery, which is what was happening with the Eagles. They're like, it was so historically dominant that you just have. to regress to to a degree.

And I think that people were talking about Baker from a passing standpoint in that way also. But what I saw was an environment that was way better than the ones that he had been in in the past.

So he has an opportunity to succeed that he hasn't necessarily seen in years past.

So there's an explanation as to why it jumps. And then also the wide receivers that he has around him, and then Bucky Irving. And so just I really love that offense in particular, all of the pieces there.

Now this week is going to be very interesting for them going up against Seattle. I think a team that kind of Is just as equally interesting. I love that matchup this week. I'm so fascinated by it. But Tales' defense is very good, and you're going to go in there without Mike Evans and without Chris Godwin.

And without Bucky Irving. And so what does that mean for Mecca Buka in terms of the defensive attention that collapses on him? Is he able to play in the squad as much as he did? What does it look like coming out of the backfield? I think Rashad White will probably be able to keep things going there.

But then who else rises? You need someone else in the passing game to really step up. And so is that Tez Johnson? Is it more 12 personnel? And maybe Kate Otten gets more into the mix.

I think there's a lot of questions surrounding that, but in general, One of the things that we've seen from Baker is his stack rate is way down this year. Obviously, his EPA, all that stuff is through the roof. having his best year ever. But one of the things that I really started to notice last year in his stats was that his time to throw was. just under his time to pressure on a week-to-week basis.

That frequently happened. And at the end of the year, it ended up so his time to throw was just over his time to pressure. But it's rare that you see a quarterback whose time to throw is under the time to pressure. And to me, that told a story of someone who's really learning how much time he had in the pocket. And what to do with the ball as a result.

Like he knew when he needed to get rid of the ball. That is an. Underrated quarterback skill. And so I think you can explain the SAC rate being down this year. And As sort of like what we saw last year was the process, and this is the result.

Does that make sense? Yeah, well, I know that for this much, there's a lot of people in Cleveland that are just like, we let this guy leave, and look who we trained him for, you know?

So, I know that's another story. It's a whole nother, whole nother story. Uh, yeah, Browns fans are just getting the short end of the stick. Imagine if Baker Mayfield wins an MVP in another uniform, it's like the Browns are snake-bitten there. Lindsey, he always only one, though.

Sorry to interrupt, Daniel Jones, Sam Darnold. I mean, these guys are legitimately at the top of the quarterback chart.

So he's not alone in the, or they are not alone in terms of cities that have passed off a quarterback who's having awfully good seasons.

So at least there's that. Yeah, it depends on uh where you land and who's coaching you and the environment there.

So it's it's good to see all of these uh these quarterbacks getting different chances in different cities. Uh Lindsay, you always bring great expertise uh courtesy of Sumer Sports. I I hear that Sumer is uh working on something new. W is Phyllis in what's Sumer bring?

Okay, so Sumer Brain is our football AI chatbot that we just released this week. We've been working on it for quite a while now, and we're really excited about it. I like to think of it, I think at the stage where it is right now, if you think of it as a data retrieval tool, that's how you're going to have the most success with it. It's an open beta period, so it is Not perfect. We're not claiming every answer that you're going to get is going to be perfect.

It is an AI tool.

So there are concerns that I understand that people have. And you're probably going to want to double check the answers. But why we made it an open beta period is because the more volume that it sees, the more that people are actually using it, it sort of fixes itself quickly. And we on the back end can also say, okay, we're seeing consistent problems with this particular thing, and so we need to define this stat, for instance. And so we can fix those things faster and get it to where we want it to be.

But I mean, we're talking like deep, deep, advanced data that you can ask it. You can ask it about coverage rates versus very specific things on third down, whatever. Um catch Uh depth uh You know, route information, like the number of things it opens up and it ties. Entire window to stats that you could almost even make up. Because whatever you want to know about, you can ask about it.

and then put it into different combinations, add different filters on top of one another.

So whatever you can think of that you might want to know about a matchup as specifically as you can ask about it, that's how you have the most success with the prompts. I suggest everybody goes in and kind of plays around with it. It's at sumersports.com/slash sumer brains.

The football last night, we talked about the football on Sunday.

We got football tomorrow on the college side of things. But let me tell you about something that's actually getting ready to go down. In about 25 minutes or so, we got a deciding game five. Between the Seattle Mariners and the Detroit Tigers. I mean, the Tigers have pretty much.

you know, force their hand here into a game five, winning on Wednesday over Seattle. A nine to three. And this should be a good one. We got George Kirby on the mound for the Mariners, and then we have Tarek Skubel on the mound for the Tigers.

Now, in most cases, you would look at Skubel and just go.

Okay, this is probably the best active pitcher in the game. Why don't we just go ahead and pencil in the Tigers to go ahead and win this?

Well, He's probably, well, he won Cy Young last year. He's probably going to win it again this year. The mariners had have smoked them.

Okay, he is the best pitcher in the game. The Mariners have won all three of his starts against him this season, including game two of this series. When it comes to taking on the Mariners, they have Skubel's number, okay, to see Tarek Skubble stand on the mound In Seattle, that giant field botcha, it's not safe, code. What the hell are they calling this thing now? Uh, it's a TN.

T N not T N T uh T T Mobile T Mobile maybe? Let me double check. That place is big as hell. That place has always been a pitcher's park. Uh but I it it's hard not to take school.

Like is he just gonna suck against them all year? I know Polanco likes takin' him deep, But is Scoobel gonna stink the joint up? Matter of fact, he spoke to the media, and he He's not afraid. He's not worried. He's actually ready for this.

And this is what competition is all about. This is why you play the game. You know, for game fives, I mean if you In seven games, right, you have an opportunity to throw three. I threw three against Cleveland, you know, my last three starts of the year, or, you know, two and then the first game of the wild card. Yeah, it's competition, you know, and I think that that's going to bring out the best in everyone involved, and that's why this game is so beautiful.

You know, we're going to be able to go experience that on Friday. Wow. Bacha, he can't stink again, right? He he is the best guy in the league. He can't go out there and stink again.

I really doubt it. I just think he hasn't really stank. It's just... They got maybe two or three runs, which is not normal for a team against them. And I think this game really comes down to.

the scrappiness of the Tigers lineup. Because George Kirby is a guy who has great control.

So can they draw out at bats and get him out of the game. That's their best chance. Uh, I think Scuba will give you a solid six or seven innings with three or less runs. Like you're guaranteed a quality start basically unless he has a complete meltdown. And that's that's good.

I mean from the Mariners' perspecti in both teams. It doesn't matter What the hell is going on? They're they're all gonna It's all hands on deck. It doesn't matter. If George Kirby goes out there and he starts to stink.

They're going to tell Castillo, hey man, we need you to go out there and just help get the job done. I mean, all things considered. When you take a look at his career, George Kirby versus the Tigers, well, he stinks, okay? Ultimately, over his career, About six starts. He has an ERA of 7%.

Point. Five.

Okay, granted, that's a wide range and a wide scope. It doesn't have anything specifically to do it now, but the Tigers historically have beat him up. At least he has the benefit of playing at home. I told you it's going to be all hands on deck. George Kirby, he spoke to the media as well, and he said, Listen, people, We're all in.

It's it's all or nothing. This time of year you're all pitching with your best stuff. You're all Yeah. Everything kind of just leads up to this moment. You got all your best stuff going out there and attacking, and I think everyone's gonna do that.

Yeah, well we'll see what happens in in game one. He gave up two runs on six hits and struck out eight in five innings.

So. If he ain't if he ain't giving you more than five innings, then then Castillo will be out there. In uh, in no time, this is going to be a fun one. It's it's tough because Scoobel, even if Scoobel stinks, he has more rope than everybody.

So, if he gives up a bomb or he gives up a couple of runs, he ain't going to get the hook. Because if you start putting in anybody after him, Un unless he's like completely gassed.

Well, he's just giving up a crap ton of runs. He absolutely doesn't have it, which is unlikely. A school bull is going to be out there for a while. Kirby Uh not not so much. We have to wait and see.

AJ Hench, Tigers' manager, He says, You know what, it doesn't matter what happens, we gotta go out there and get the job done and I'm looking forward to giving the ball to Tarek Schubel. Sitting in my chair. One of the easiest things to do, and one of the most exciting things to do is hand. The ball to the best pitcher in baseball. You know, I mean, this guy should have.

More hardware on his mantle, and he's going to be recognized because of the work that he's done during the season. He's so prepared for this moment. He obviously is somebody deeply trusted in our clubhouse to. to bring intensity to bring high-end pitching and bring results. Um we win together, we lose together.

But he leads us, you know, and he's a big presence going into game five as we get on this plane to go across the country. Got a lot of optimism, you know, heading that way because of the Um the presence of Terex Google. Man, we win together, we lose together. Tell me where I've heard that. Oh, yeah, that's right.

The Phillies from last night losing on an error.

Okay, we've heard that. What does Dan Wilson think? We heard from one manager. Let's listen to Dan Wilson, the manager of the Mariners. Everything's in front of us and and uh you know these guys have have uh have done this all season long where you know they uh you know get in tough situations and they know exactly what to do and and and they do fight back and they do bounce back and uh I'm not worried about that at all and and no better place to do that than at home.

Boncha, this is a tough one, man, because if you look at the Mariners, you would think that eventually With all the being at home and the pitching that they have, and they have a better offense than Detroit. That at some point in time, outside of school ball, they're going to be able to put some runs up. And neutralize things. But then, on the other hand, you go, man, this is School. Like, what type of game is he going to go out there and pitch?

How long can he pitch and keep them in the game? This is really a. That's a coin flip. Like, I want to say, I want to go with Seattle, but then I'm like, how long is Scoobel going to be out there? This is a tough one to call.

This is why they got the five games. Yeah, I personally I don't want to go down to like ifs in scenarios, but if the Mariners don't get to school by the third inning I think they're done. Uh I just think that The Tigers bullpen is great. Scoobel if he catches that momentum. you're not really gonna get anything out of him later in the innings?

So i it's just if they don't come out hot, the Mariners, they're done.

Well, I mean, at the same time, yeah, you you wanna run up the pitch count. Like, sure, he could be out there guns ablazing, but if you got him out there throwing a lot of pitches and getting gassed. the better opportunity you have to get into the bullpen early. It bodes well for them. You know, if I had to lay down a bet, It sounds crazy.

How could I bet against School? I I would go with the Mariners at home. Because eventually, ain't nobody gonna pitch a complete game. This game is gonna probably go down to the Y. And now that I say that, I watched Schoolbull.

Throw like a perfect game or something like that. We'll see. We'll keep you up to date. Are they scheduled to get started? In about 20 minutes from now.

So we'll keep you up to date on it all. It's the JR Sport Reshow here with you, Coast to Coast on the Infinity Sports Network. We're gonna take a break. We come back. I want to tell you about someone who is taking his own break.

And it's not by choice, but maybe it is. It's LeBron James. He's gonna miss the start of the season. I'll tell you why. It's the JR Sport Reef Show Coast to Coast or the Infinity Sports Network.
