Ask it to play. The Infinity Sports Network. I'm in Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you to our producer in New York City, Ryan Botcher. And speaking of New York City, right now, this minute, this second in Brooklyn, New York, the second round of the NBA draft, it is underway. Rashir Fleming is on his way to the Phoenix Suns, number 31. Another notable pick. Janai Broom coming out of Auburn. He is now a member of the Philadelphia 76ers. And we have talked a lot about the draft.
Everything from Ace Bailey to Cooper Flagg to Vijay Ejkom. And thank you so much to Ben Anderson for joining us from Salt Lake City, Utah. He joins us or he joined us via KSL Sports.
And how about this? In about 20 minutes, we're going to have a chat with president of Roc Nation Sports, Michael Jormark. He'll be here with us in 20 minutes. If you want to be here, you can you can call participate be a part of the show 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. I am on the internet. I'm on Twitter at JR sport brief x at JR sport brief Twitter slash x at JR sport brief Instagram JR sport brief.
I think at this point you figured it out. Thank God this and you expect it to NBA draft is now two days long. Tonight is moving much faster than night number one.
Batra you mentioned it yesterday. And the draft took it took three and a half hours just about it actually went way longer than I thought it would. I thought it would end it like you know 1045 you think five minutes per pick. That's like two hours and a half.
Nope, way longer. Well, I think they were full of crap because I don't think they actually started the clock for each individual team when they said they would. And so I think we got maybe a couple extra seconds or a minute in between each one of the picks as they decided to do all the fancy production stuff that you pointed out. So look, it's a television property. It's a TV product that they're pretty much broadcasting the draft for a reason because there's interest and they could make money in doing so.
I'm just over it at this point. And at the same time, we have so many prospects who are in the NBA draft like it used to be the majority of the players are coming out of college. So you had a familiarity with who was being drafted.
You had an idea of the teams that were there and what their needs are. And now it's it's always been a crapshoot. Let's be honest.
We discussed this last night. It's always been a crapshoot. You randomly mentioned the 2017 draft from last year. And you got a guy like OG and a nobody who's just signed a gigantic contract extension and the guys selected before and after him is just like they're not even in the league. And so the draft is always a crapshoot.
But it feels like even much more so of one right now. When you think about the players who are coming over from Europe, I mean, there was a guy coming over from China. They're like, oh, he'll be the Chinese Jokic.
It's almost it takes the wind out. That's not to say that these players won't be great. It's always been said that Nikola Jokic was actually drafted during a commercial. OK, they flashed his name on the screen during a Taco Bell commercial. And he happens to be one of the greatest basketball players that we've ever seen. I mean, we talked about Austin Reeves is certainly not in the stratosphere of a Nikola Jokic. He went undrafted.
And then earlier today, we learned that he turned down a contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers. So the draft, like a lot of things, can be hit or miss. I just think we're in a space right now where the players who do get drafted, they're unknowns. These aren't dudes that have been in college for three and four years. You've watched them grow.
You've watched them develop. There's some guy from from France that I've never seen in my life. Only Frenchman that got so much burn here in the United States of America now plays for the Spurs.
That's Victor Wenbanyama. The NBA was not messing around. They set the table for him to be known. They think he's the next big thing. And damn it, I hope he is. I mean, we talked about Kevin Durant wanting to retire as a member of the Houston Rockets. And we know LeBron is closer to the end and Steph Curry is closer to the end. We have this entire new era of players that are coming in.
Shaggy August Alexander is already here. Luca is already well established. Hopefully he stays healthy. Giannis is in his early 30s. He's 30.
Jokic is the same age. So we got guys who can pick up another championship and add to their legacies, maybe an MVP or so. But who's who's next? We're going to find out. Is it going to be Cooper flag in Dallas?
I don't think it'll be that way with Kyrie and injured Anthony Davis around. What happens with Ace Bailey is just is so much going on. And speaking to Ace Bailey, I told you we were joined by Ben Anderson earlier on in the show from KSL Sports Zone in Kansas. Excuse me. I keep mixing up Kansas City and Salt Lake City. Salt Lake, Kansas City. I don't know.
Maybe I'm thinking about barbecue. Ultimately, Ben said that there's an expectation that Ace does show up to work. And why the hell not? OK, he didn't work out for anybody. And then we got a report today that said he had warned or his agent had warned a team. If you take him, he's not going to report. Well, apparently that team is not the Utah Jazz and apparently he's going to show up to work and start playing.
Let's listen to Ace Bailey. He pretty much said as it relates to him loving or not liking Utah. This was his response.
I don't know if it's much of one. I mean, I control what I control. So how they feel, how they feel. But to my team and me, just me focusing on the basketball and I'm doing what they're doing. So it happens. Yeah, I wonder how much longer that's going to go on.
Like, is he he's is he setting the stage? And I have no problem with him not working out for a team. I mean, people, I think I found that to be overblown. You don't have to work out for a team. You don't have to do squat. But if you feel confident in yourself to get the job done and you do it, then fine. In a couple of years, if this guy's a multiple time All-Star, you know what people aren't going to be talking about?
Not the draft, not who he didn't work out for. Like everything that he does after this is going to have a say as to how his career starts. But I can tell you, when you start your career off, one word answer, two word answers, cliched answers, it's not the best. Let's put it that way.
You're not setting yourself for the best. You're not setting yourself up for the best relationship with the media when you got the same damn answer every single time. You would think he was Bill Belichick of basketball. He just got to the league, just got drafted yesterday. He was asked if he knew Utah had any interest in him. And then he's just like, ah, no.
Had you had any idea they had any interest in you? No idea. Gotcha. Does he say anything longer than, I don't know, five sentences? If you ask him maybe politely, he'll probably say, I'm here to play basketball. I'm focused on just my game. The other things I can't control, I can't control. Yeah. I mean, at this point in time, we can we can write the script of what's going to come out of the mouth of Ace Bailey.
Good luck to him in Utah. How do you feel about this draft taking two days, man? It's horrible.
This is a horrible idea. I think the majority of people who watch basketball in itself can't name maybe half of the first rounders. And now you make a whole second day for people who the casual watcher has no idea who they are.
I knew Janai Broom and that's probably it. And people are watching, though. That's what matters, right? If you're a basketball fan, what are the other options? None? I don't know.
Anything. Most people, is it Love Island trending right now? They probably watch that. Love Island? Is that, so I don't watch any of that.
I mix them all up. Isn't there another show that's similar to this or is this like season number eight of Love Island? I have no idea. I have no I don't watch it either. But all I know is that it's like the most popular thing in the world right now.
I don't I don't I don't get it. Is it trending right now this minute? It's trending.
So Love Island comes on Netflix, right? I think so. Okay. I don't I don't know. I'm sitting here in the studio. I'm not watching Love Island.
I have no idea. As VJH, see, this is what they do. This is nothing but an advertisement for the entire league. VJ Edgecombe, who got selected number three overall by the Sixers yesterday, is currently being interviewed right now on night number two of the NBA draft. So like, for real, if you're a basketball fan, like anybody that would watch night one of the draft, I think most people who would watch night one would be sitting around watching night number two.
So hey, what other NBA basketball can you have? Just on Sunday, we crowned the champs. Tuesday, they had a parade. Wednesday, we had night one of the draft.
Today we have night two. We'll get ready for introductory press conferences. These guys will get ready for summer league. And then the NBA will open up free agency and then we'll just well, I guess take a little bit of a of a basketball break. So soak it in while you can if you're the NBA. The more attention that you have on you, the better.
888-710-4ISN. And speaking of attention, there's so much basketball news going on. There was some news coming from the NFL as well. The NFL conducted an investigation. They decided to make some decisions as it relates to Justin Tucker.
Take a listen as the news broke earlier today on CBS Sports HQ breaking NFL news here on HQ. The NFL has suspended free agent kicker Justin Tucker for the first 10 weeks of the season provided in the league's personal conduct policy. He was released by the Ravens back in May in what the franchise called a quote football decision. It's notable that his release came just a few months after he was accused of sexual misconduct at both multiple Baltimore area spas. That prompted an NFL investigation.
Tucker vehemently denies all allegations, but the earliest he would be eligible for reinstatement is November the 11th. Damn. I was going to say. It's the summertime, it's the off season. These guys have to be careful of what's going on and this and that. Oh, my God. It doesn't matter.
Really, it doesn't matter. Apparently, Justin Tucker, what he was allegedly doing years ago was enough of the NFL to say, OK, you got cut by the Baltimore Ravens and oh, yeah, by the way, we're just going to suspend you for 10 games. So something was found was some things were found that made the NFL say to Justin Tucker, I know it's time for a punishment. And it's crazy to think about the face of an organization. And, oh, he's not the star player. He's one of them. Face of the community, one of the faces of the community. This guy, he might have to leave town if he hasn't already.
Like, if I'm Justin Tucker. Am I sticking around in Baltimore? This guy was on every commercial. He's selling everything.
He's doing community stuff here and there. You can't do that anymore. You can go ahead and throw that on out the window. Justin Tucker probably already left.
Oh, what a sad way to end a career. If I'm another NFL team, I'm not picking him up. Why? So he could be suspended for 10 games and I have to answer questions week after week after week about how he's preparing and getting ready and are we comfortable?
But nobody wants to deal with that. The same damn reason why the Ravens cut him that and that he wasn't performing up to par. 8 8 8 7 10 for ISN. 8 8 8 7 10 for ISN. Marcus calling from California. You're in the JR sport re-show. Mark, what's up?
What's going on, JR? I'm just getting tired of this NBA draft, man. Like, it's not I watched my team. If they pick like the Mississippi and that's it. Like I see I feel like anybody outside of like the top 10.
They all just suck. Like it's last year's draft was horrendous. The top two picks weren't even like didn't even play college basketball.
So I feel like Zachary, Zachary research. Yeah, he didn't play college ball, but he was a professional. He had a damn good first season with the the Atlanta Hawks. So, I mean, we can't just say the guy suck because he didn't come out of college.
I don't think that's fair. Well, it's not that. But like, you know, I remember the 2000 draft. That's why one of the worst drafts, probably, you know, in NBA history.
Right. And so that draft, there were a lot of stoked guys. But I just feel like last year's draft, there weren't a lot of like really good guys coming out of college. Like you have to pop a couple of picks and I feel like that's it. And then look at what the Nets are doing. They had five picks. But Mark, is that is is that fair to say that that this is fair because a guy is not coming out of college? Like the drought pool, the draft pool is so much larger right now. Right.
So how what is that? I don't think that's a fair thing to say, like we're getting stars from all over the world to say that these guys suck. No, no, no. I'm not talking about like international guys. I'm talking about guys that spend four years at college like Cooper Flagg. You know, they say generational superstar like, OK, Victor, women, Yama, like he I saw him play in France. He's very, very good.
But like there's a lot of guys I do. I remember Adam Morrison. From Gonzaga, this dude was so hyped up, like he was the next up and coming star and just flamed out.
And he was a first round pick, too. I've seen a lot of guys just go from college and can't transition yet. I don't know if it's harder in the NBA than it is in college. I think so. But yes, it's a different type of game.
Yeah. And the NFL is so much better just because you have seven rounds. And I love seeing the dudes that make the steals. I'm a Giants fan. So I remember Ahmad Bradshaw, seventh round pick.
You know what I mean? There's a lot of guys late rounds, but I just don't see too many of that in the NBA draft. Well, it's also it's also a larger field.
And thank you, Mark, for calling from California. Man, when you have to fill 53 roster spots and we're talking about more than 100 college teams playing at the top level. Of course, like you're going to have it in different conferences. You're going to have many more players that you might be familiar with, especially the fact that in college you ain't one and done. Like you ain't popping into college and then boom, the next thing you know, you're some savior in an NFL team. Like the NBA has smaller rosters. The NBA is more predicated on a few star players and ancillary players who are leading the way. And the NFL is more of a team game where you're going to have individual stars at their respective positions who are helping to lead you. Like, man, we sit here every year and we do an NFL draft show right here on the Infinity Sports Network.
I think I must have co-hosted it, whether it be with Zach or or Bart for the past, I don't know, five years. And so I'm sitting here and I'm watching a draft and I'm intently paying attention for round one and the second day. But by the time we get into the weekend, I'm popping in and out unless there's some guy who just continues to draft into draft obscurity.
Like a Chador Sanders. Like, man, outside of who's doing the pick and the NFL is like, oh, let's get some musician to do the pick. Let's get some WWE star to do the pick by the time we get to Saturday. No, thanks. I'm good. OK, I'll pay attention.
I'll have it on the back. But I'm not investing in four days, three days, all damn day NFL draft. You do it.
I can do all drafts in one day and be done with it. It's the JR Sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. You're talking about international players, all these international guys coming over playing in the league.
Well, right now we're going to take a break and come back. We're going to talk about an international. Just a partnership between Roc Nation Sports and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Yeah, they just finished up in the FIFA Club World Cup. We're going to have a chat with the president of Roc Nation Sports about why they even got together. Michael, your mark is going to join us on the other side of the break. You're listening to the JR Sport re-show coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. You're listening to the JR Sport brief.
It is the JR Sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Hey, as the NBA draft is going on, man, we've taken some calls. We've we've discussed how the NBA draft has changed over the years. Obviously, the NBA are more more of an international game. You don't have to look any further than some of the recent MVPs, whether it's a Jokic or an Embiid, who's now a citizen of the United States of America.
Man, the recent MVP, a little closer to home is Shay Gilgus-Alexander. But it doesn't take away from the Embiids and Antetokounpos of the world. One thing that we understand, there is nothing more international outside of basketball than football, soccer. No, not not the NFL.
The NFL is trying, but it's not there yet. And right now in the United States of America. The FIFA Club World Cup is going down now. Last week, we had a great chat with Marcelo Allende and Jalon Fokekana from Mamelodi Sundowns, a football team soccer team out of Pretoria in South Africa. And they've been playing here in the United States of America.
It started off in Florida, went to Cincinnati. They've had a run yesterday. Unfortunately, they did not advance past their group stage. They had a big matchup against Fluminense, which is a Brazilian team, and they didn't advance. They actually tied, so they did not go past. And their time in the FIFA Club World Cup is done. And they hung in there with Dortmund, had a great match with them, even though they lost. They beat Ulsan. But the Sundowns came to the United States of America. And no, they didn't win the tournament.
No, they did not advance past the group stage, but they left their mark. OK, they had different clinics for students and kids down in South Florida. You could see them dancing. You saw them active on social media. And so, hey, soccer and sports, we all know, brings the world together. And so I had a chat yesterday, right before their match against Fluminense with the president of Roc Nation Sports, Michael, your mark. Now, what the heck does Jay-Z's Roc Nation Sports have to do, you know, with Mama Lodi Sundowns? Well, I asked Michael all of those questions and he talked about why they came together to do something amazing.
And of course, I had a very simple question to start off with, Michael. How the heck are you doing? I'm doing great.
It's raining here in South Florida, but we've got a big match to attend at three o'clock Eastern when the Mama Lodi Sundowns take the pitch. Super excited about the opportunity they have in front of them today. I'm super excited to join you. Thank you so much.
And happy Wednesday. Absolutely. Without a shadow of a doubt. You talk about the matchup against Fluminense.
They already beat Dortmund. They've done some amazing initiatives in the community in Florida. Explain to everybody how the relationship between Roc Nation Sports and the Sundowns came to be, being that they were in South Africa. We know Roc Nation is international.
How did the relationship come to be? So very, very quickly, you know, when I started our international headquarters in London, Roc Nation Sports International in September of 2019, I also, in addition to wanting to sign some of the best football players in the world, as well as dip our toes into rugby and other sports, I started to build out a consulting business, a consulting vertical to leverage some of the expertise that I had when I was running professional sports teams here in America. One of our first clients was the Mama Lodi Sundowns.
We were doing business in South Africa. I had the opportunity to meet the chairman, Kleppy Mosepi. I learned a little bit about what his goals and objectives were for from a business perspective, what his ambitions were to take that that the story, the very unique story of that club around the world.
And I told him we could help him. And the rest is history. It's been an incredible journey to to help the chairman and that club, you know, expand its brand, expand its profile to help them from a commercial perspective.
And here we are in America. They're one of 32 teams in the Club World Cup. They have an opportunity tonight to make it to the final 16. It's a great story. It's a great franchise. It's a great organization. And we're just so blessed to have the opportunity to work with them. The president of Roc Nation Sports International, Mike, your mark is here with us on the J.R. sport ratio coast to coast.
You talk about how great the relationship has been. How important is an event like this, the FIFA Club World Cup, towards growing the brand? It's incredible. I mean, you know, when you think about a team in South Africa who may not get a lot of attention playing in the PSL, but this is a club, quite frankly, that has dominated the PSL, that has competed at the highest level in Africa, especially as part of CAF. And here they are in America, one of 32 teams that qualified. And for them to be able to tell their story and to play the way they have on this stage is enormous for them. And when you see the feedback that they've received from around the world, people love what they stand for. People love the style of play, the way they attack.
You mentioned, you know, the match against Dortmund. What an incredible, incredible match. And today they have the opportunity to take another big step and to grow their international profile.
So this tournament has been absolutely amazing for them. They've done some very unique activations in conjunction with RNSI here in America. It started obviously with the welcome, the signage welcome in Times Square, the video content that DJ Khaled put out welcoming them to America. We did the clinic. You talked about the clinic yesterday. I must tell you, it was one of the greatest events I've ever attended to see the smile on the faces of these young boys and young girls that attended the clinic and how the sundowns really wrap their arms around these 50 young adults was absolutely incredible. You don't see clubs around the world taking the time to do that, especially when they're here for such an important, important tournament.
So for them to give the time to reach out, to support community while also expanding their brand, it's been incredible. Well, Michael, all of this is actively going on right now, this minute. What's next? Well, listen, we'll see what's next.
But, you know, tonight's a big match. And if the club gets through, which I suspect they will, then then we just raise the bar. We keep doing more. We keep building the profile of the club and telling the club's unique story while also giving back to communities in which they visit while they're here in America. But I also think that it reestablishes their foundation for success back in South Africa. You know, they are carrying the South Africa flag here in America.
And quite frankly, they're also carrying the African flag. And so when they go home, the opportunities that we can capitalize on to continue to grow their brand and to grow this franchise will be right in front of us. And that's something that we need to take advantage of without a shadow of a doubt. Hey, Michael, thank you so much for the time. Please tell everybody where they can keep up with everything that you guys have going on with the Sundowns as well as Roc Nation Sports. Well, listen, you can follow us, you know, on on our Instagram, you can follow us on our social media platform. You can follow me at Michael, your mark. I try to inspire and motivate as many people around the world as I can while educating them on the great work that RNSI does on a daily basis. Michael, thank you so much for the time.
Let's let's see what happens with the match and the rest of the tournament. You be well. J.R., thank you so much. Yeah, big shout out to Michael, your mark, everybody at Roc Nation Sports. Shout out to my guy, Craig, as well. And a big shout out to the Sundowns for coming over to the United States.
And no, they did not advance past Fluminense yesterday. But they certainly left their mark in the community, especially in South Florida and every stop that they they made. So one day I got to get down to Pretoria. I got to go check out the Sundowns. I just like and appreciate how sports can ultimately bring everybody together.
I know a lot of people are always fearful about, oh, you know, who are these people and what are they doing and why are they playing this game here? I remember a couple of years ago, I did an entire show. One of the craziest shows ever.
I remember it vividly. I was in Portland, Oregon, and people were telling me all over the country about how much they either loved or hated or could not stand soccer in this country. I got people calling me from every corner of the country and it's just like, well, damn, are we really that isolated over here in the USA? I guess we are. Soccer is a beautiful game and better get used to it. We've got the Club World Cup going on right now. We have the FIFA World Cup here next year. Soccer is a beautiful game.
Get used to it. Hey, Dex, have you been keeping up at all with the FIFA Club World Cup? We've had some interesting matches, man.
Yeah, I have a little bit. My team, I'm a big Liverpool fan. They're not in it, which I'm kind of happy to get to rest, but I have been paying attention. There have been some good matches. You're just thinking about your club team.
You want them to get the rest? Yeah, yeah. It's such a long season. We just won the Premier League last year. Got to rest up, trying to get Champions League next year. So, yeah, got to rest, man.
Rest is good. They play too many games. Is that why the guys in the NBA are popping their Achilles, too?
Listen, you and I have never talked about this, and I was talking about this with someone the other day. I think it's part of it, and you've got to go back to youth sports, though. These kids are playing way too many games, too young. Somebody used to cover a lot of AU basketball, seeing guys play four or five games in a day, seven in a weekend. Yeah, it's a lot of basketball, and it's a lot of wear and tear on these young men and women. And when you talk to the experts on this, people who study medicine, right, orthopedic surgeons, they say these kids shouldn't be playing more than 16 hours a week in one specialized sport. They say it's detrimental to the body, and sadly, because it's a business here in America, a lot of youth sports are having these young people put a lot of wear and tear on their bodies as they're growing. You've got to run these young men and women, run them until the wheels fall off, huh? Yeah, and I do think that's why we see some of the injuries we see.
I think a lot of people talk about the low management and stuff in the NBA, but by the time, if their bodies are worn out by the time they get to the NBA, all the mileage that's on them, this is why you're seeing some of that happen. It's a susceptible injury more, man. Yeah, mm-hmm. Yeah, wow. Are you enjoying the Club World Cup, JR? I am. You know, I haven't been... Are you a soccer fan? Have you been into soccer before this, or... Oh, yes, man. Oh, I didn't know that.
Okay. Shout-outs to the wonderful people at the Bundesliga. They've sent me out to Germany to check out some of their matches with BVB.
Mm-hmm. Oh, yeah, man, I've seen Olympic soccer. I would keep up more with the U.S. men's national team, but, I mean, what can I say?
Not much to keep up with. I've been out to Chelsea. Yeah, man, I'm a fan. I don't have... I'm torn. You know, I've had... I can't say I'm torn.
I'm fortunate. A lot of the teams have said, hey, come out and watch, and this and that, so... Mm-hmm. There's quite a few teams. New York Red Bulls, Leipzig, there's... Schalke. Oh, you've been around with some teams. We got to get you to pick a club, though. We got to get that down.
I don't know. I think I'm past that, man. Really? Yeah, I just want to enjoy all the soccer, you know, the teams... That's fair.
The teams that treat me nice, I like them. How about that? Yeah, you know what? I got to get... we got to make sure Liverpool gets you out there, treats you nice, so you can... you know what our slogan is? You never walk alone, so you come walk with us. Yeah, I've heard that. Right now, they know I've been walking solo without them, so we'll see. We'll see. Anyway, thank you so much, Dak.
No problem, brother. It's the JR Sport Beach Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. When we come back, we'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history, but you just heard his voice.
It's time for a newsflash. Here he is, Dexter Henry. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm down for a drink.
Let me know when and where. You pay, not me. You pay. Anyway, it is the end of the show.
You know what that means? It's time to talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history. Back in the days when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore.
But some days I sit and wish I was a kid again. It's time for this day in sports history. You see, back in those days, we had radio and you couldn't see anything.
And it was primitive and lousy and we liked it. On the JR Sport Brief Show. I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass.
It is June 26, 2025, June 26, 1976. We had our heavyweight champion of the world, Muhammad Ali. He was in Tokyo, Japan, taking on a wrestler, Antonio Inoki. These guys put on an exhibition where Muhammad Ali basically got kicked in the legs a bunch of times. They called this fight a draw, but it was also nothing more than a moneymaker. We got a bunch of professional wrestlers who felt that it was a waste of time.
Listen to this. After the referees signaled to start the fight, Inoki lay on his back and started kicking away at Ali. If he couldn't kick the head, he had only to kick the boxer on the legs. This left Ali in a quandary. His powerful punches in this situation were useless. Naturally, he didn't dare to fight the wrestler on the ground. The fans were disappointed that they did not see the real fight. Some of them even asked for their money back. For almost 15 rounds, Inoki was rolling around the ring and Ali unsuccessfully tried to challenge him to a stand-up fight. What were the judges left to do in the end? Naturally, they declared a draw.
Yeah, nothing happened. June 26, 2003, LeBron James was selected number one overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Let's listen to his first post draft interview on ESPN. That was great. You know, this is a long time dream to finally accomplish this. And it finally shows that the hard work has finally paid off for me. And a lot lies ahead. You will most certainly be the most scrutinized rookie in the history of the NBA. What will make a successful season by your definition in the rookie year? You know, seeing our team get better every day. I think that's going to be the biggest accomplishment for us because last year we went pretty good. But I feel like if we get better every day as a team, that's going to be my biggest goal this year. There has been some talk that they might want to play you at the point guard.
What do you think? I think I'm going to be ready for it. You know, for anything that coach Salah has needed me to do for my team to win, I think I'm going to be happy about it. Yeah, you got fans in the back chanting at LeBron overrated. He just got drafted.
I think he has lived up to and or really exceeded the expectations. LeBron drafted this day in 2003. Hey, let's go to this day in 2013. Oh, this is not good.
This is not good at all. Aaron Hernandez was arrested June 26, 2013, charged with first degree murder of Odin Lloyd. Weapons related charges.
And we know he got to just listen to this WPTV. Florida Gator football star Aaron Hernandez in jail tonight charged with first degree murder and the death of a semi-pro football player. Hernandez appeared before judge just a few hours ago.
The judge ordered him to be held without bail and sealed all records related to this case. Twenty seven year old Odin Lloyd was found dead on June 17th, less than a mile from Hernandez's home. Prosecutors say Hernandez orchestrated the crime and tried to destroy evidence. The NFL released a statement calling the involvement of the player in the case deeply troubling. Shortly after Hernandez was arrested this morning, the Patriots cut him from the team. Yeah, what a difficult decision for Bill Belichick. Anyway, Aaron Hernandez, we know he is no longer here.
And just what a sad, sad story that was all the way around. June 26th, 2015. This man is looking for a Stanley Cup. Didn't get it this year. Didn't get it last year. Connor McDavid.
He was selected number one overall by the Edmonton Oilers. After being drafted, he was asked if this was just a relief to get it over with. I wouldn't say it's like relief or anything like that. I would say it's just exciting. I mean, I woke up this morning, it was almost surreal. I felt like it was a dream last night. This night I've dreamt about for a long time now.
It went just the way I had hoped and it was everything I could ever want it to be. Yeah, good luck to him if he can go to a third consecutive Stanley Cup Finals. And maybe this time win, OK? How about this day in sports history, June 26th?
We gotta go back a few years. 2021, the Tour de France? Well, it was like a million car pile up.
But with bikes, listen to this. NBC. Oh, the massive crash there. What has happened? Right on the side of the road there.
Look at this. I don't know what happened there. Maybe they clipped the crowd, but whatever has happened, they are in a right mess down there at the moment now. How many riders?
Let's hope. That is a massive crash, Bob. It's completely. It was a jumbo, a visma ride. It wasn't Rogley, was it? I think that was Tony. The whole that just went could have been Tony Martin.
Yes, it could have been. And it just he just hit the side of the road and lost the front wheel. Oh, I think he went off the road. The road has got a nasty ridge on it there. Now, the question is, what's going to happen?
How many people are going to get back up? Right. That's right.
There's your picture. Oh, oh, my goodness. May a fan with a sign caused a multi bike million bike pileup at the Tour de France. Yeah, that guy. They arrested him. And don't don't bring your signs to the Tour de France.
You could injure the bikers. It's a terrible thing. Also, this day in sports history. June 26, 2022, the Florida Avalanche, they beat the Tampa Bay Lightning. So won their third championship in franchise history.
And there you have it. Those are just a few things that took place this day in sports history. We'll see if anybody drafted tonight in the NBA, if they're added to this list. This is the second round of the NBA draft.
So anybody who makes some news today is going to be a real, real big deal. And you never know. Like I said, Nicola Jokic.
The guy was drafted during a Taco Bell commercial. But you know what they say. It's not how you start people. It's how you finish. And speaking of finish, we're just about done here.
Bancha, we don't get this. They're not making up a third round of the NBA draft tomorrow, are they? That's next year. We don't need any more rounds of the draft. It's been a fun two days. A big thank you to our guest, Ben Anderson, coming through from KSL Sports Zone in Salt Lake City, Utah, to talk about Ace Bailey.
We discussed a lot and we will be back with you tomorrow at 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. I don't expect another NFL player to get suspended. I'm looking at you, Justin Tucker. Maybe somebody else will do something stupid between now and tomorrow.
