The New Testament describes heaven as a place where God's presence is with his people, and there is no more suffering, death, or pain. The city of God, the New Jerusalem, comes from heaven and is a perfect cube, with streets of gold and gates of pearls. The city is inhabited by 144,000 people, and there is no need for a temple because God's presence is visible to his people. The city is illuminated by the glory of God and Christ, and there is no night or curse. The ultimate joy of heaven is the beatific vision, the experience of looking directly into the unveiled face of God.
