And I just spent a good portion of the first hour talking about ESG and when I mentioned it to Avi, Avi was like, Oh my goodness, let me tell you some things that I could tell you about this. So I want to welcome Avi Goldwasser to the program. Avi, welcome. It's so good to have you. Thank you. Thank you very much. I appreciate you inviting me. Absolutely. My pleasure, sir.

My pleasure. I know we're going to talk. We've got a full hour and we're going to get a lot in. But, you know, we're going to talk about the antisemitism. We're going to talk about, really I think that there is a, there's a portion of Jewish, quote unquote, leadership that has sold itself out in a manner of speaking and bought into exactly what we were just discussing, this whole ESG. And that's a big problem.

Talk to me about ESG and financial institutions and the influence that this has. And then I want to get into the other part, which is how necessary it is. There has to be action taken. That was one of the things you were talking about in the green room. It's critical. People cannot sit by and assume that this is just going to go away because it's not.

It doesn't go away by itself. And in fact, the more successful the other side is, the more they'll continue with the approach. And it is part of a bigger problem, what's happening with the Jewish community with antisemitism. And, you know, there are many theories out there, but certainly one thing that makes sense to me is the fact that what we've experienced in recent decades here is what somebody described as the revolt of the elites. There's a book by Christopher Lash, who was a sociologist. He wrote it maybe 20 years ago, and he talks about the revolt of the elite and the betrayal of democracy.

Now, this is not a conservative person. This is just a sociologist who observed what was going on. And basically felt that the elites are revolting against the masses because they think the masses are bigoted, they're ignorant, untrustworthy, and therefore they need to be told what to do. And these elites no longer believe in democracy, where a majority rules, where the people have a voice, because the people are not very bright and they're ignorant and they're bigoted and racist. So the elites have to tell them what to do.

Can I interject for a second, because I agree with you wholeheartedly. It's interesting that this mindset is their thought process, that the people are too dumb. And that's how they've made their way, I believe, into the people of faith, because they've been able to convince the people of faith that they are, in fact, trying to help, quote unquote, mankind, because mankind is broken and needs to be fixed. Yeah, it's always, always for your own good.

Let me tell you how you should live your life, because I know better. I mean, that's been sort of the attitude of sort of the elites in general, because they think they're above, they're better than people, they're smarter, they know better, and they need to provide guidance to people. It's a kind of arrogance that comes with maybe too much education, maybe sort of being inbred in a certain environment where they don't see the real life, they don't see the real struggles that people go through. They live in their ivy towers, and they're wealthy, they have power, and they feel that they will fix the world in their vision. Well, yeah, they believe somehow that they are, in fact, the ones that are going to usher in some kind of utopia.

Absolutely. But it is a human-imposed utopia, and so they replace God, they replace faith. There's no question that man is broken, you know, you and I, you come from a Jewish background, I come from a Christian background, but my Christian background has its roots in Judaism, and the understanding that man is fallen, man is sinful, and man needs God's help in order to get straightened out. I mean, that's the reality, but man can't fix man, man needs God's help in order to fix himself. Well, they clearly believe that man, or that they can fix man, and that's what their mission and purpose in life becomes, that's how they find purpose and meaning in life.

They will lead humanity to the next level. Now, we were talking about the, you know, for example, I mentioned to you about the idea of addressing the stock market or addressing investment funds as a means to send the message that we're not going to sit back and allow something like ESG to, you know, to overwhelm the system and take over all investment and shut us out from it and basically use our own money against us. There are companies that are out there that are helping businesses who are wanting to choose not to bow down to this beast.

But talk to me about what you were, where we're headed in that conversation, if you don't mind. Yeah, I think we often need to understand that the other side is very smart and they understand power structure, they understand politics better than we do, and they know, and they've been very successful, they have a very successful strategy. And ESG is just the latest application of that strategy. They know that public companies have to comply with SEC rules and regulation. They know that shareholders may not be voting directly on shareholder resolutions, that they are proxies, and they know that a lot of shares are held by intermediaries.

BlackRock is one example. And these intermediaries, in fact, will have the votes of the shareholders, and they will use that kind of power, as they are doing right now, in creating something like ESG, which is, again, unless it's supported by the SEC, it's not going to be very successful. But basically, it says the companies need to disclose certain business risks. And one of the things that these ESG proponents want is a company to give information, provide information about what they're doing about the environment, which is, you know, they believe it's a risk to the business and therefore need to be disclosed. But then they move into the social area, and that is, what do you do about diversity, about equity, inclusion?

And that has no limit, no end. Once you get into non-business area, which is subjective by nature, then you'll be getting to force on companies certain behavior, where if they don't comply, they will suffer financially. It's another form of coercion to control your behavior. It's all about control, power and control over how people behave at work, at home, whatever. So that's another way of controlling people's behavior and reducing their freedom. It's all about reducing your freedom to choose how you want to live, how you want to act. And that slides over into the next piece, which is the governance. And that means basically supporting government ordinances and laws and so on that are going to enforce this new social construct. Yeah, it's in fact politicizing the whole corporate world beyond what it traditionally was that people have to be honest, and they have to be transparent and so forth.

Now they have to behave in a certain manner that's socially acceptable to those who make the rules. And that really ties us in, Avi, to the issue that is of such great concern about the Jewish Leadership Project, and things like anti-Semitism as an example. And, you know, my concern with regards to some of the very liberal Jewish leadership that has aligned itself with what I believe to be some of the most radical elements of this social re-engineering.

Yeah, no, it's very frustrating for me as a Jew to see Jewish leadership act in a manner that I think betrays their fiduciary role to the Jewish community. And some of it, they're just clueless. They're not aware.

Other times they are aware, and it's part of their sort of mission. They are conflicted between their progressive values and Jewish values and their responsibilities. And they're able to convince themselves that progressive values are Jewish values, so there's no conflict.

And that's a kind of delusion or it's kind of a scam. I'm not sure, I can't generalize about everybody, but that's not true. It hasn't been true for a long time. And what is true, historically, it's the Left that was supportive of the Jewish people going back 100 years or more. And many Jews have sort of stuck in that paradigm where they think the Left is supportive of Jews, but that ended probably 50 years ago. In the 60s, roughly, Israel became a state and started to exert its proper rights. We need to take a quick break and then we can get into a little bit of that history and understanding it. Because I think it is important, Avi, for our audience to understand how the liberal Jewish establishment, so to speak, which walks around acting as though they're traditional, has moved into this realm that just seems to be so far away from biblical reality.

Pastor Greg. And welcome back to Chosen Generation Radio where no topic is off limits and everything filtered through biblical glasses. Avi Goldwasser is my guest and we're talking about the Jewish Leadership Project. The Jewish Leadership Project and we were kind of setting up as we went into the break Avi to talk about the shift if you will. And you were talking about how so much of the Jewish community leadership aligned itself with a very radical social agenda of the Democratic Party.

And many of them are having difficulty figuring out how to unwind that I guess. Yeah, look I think there are historical reasons for that and historically it was the left that was a friend of the Jews. The Jews were liberated from the ghettos from the oppression in Europe by Napoleon and by the whole leftist movement. And Jews who came from Europe to America remembered that and they naturally continued to believe that the left is their friend. And that was true for a while but it changed.

It changed in the last 50, 60 years or so. And Jewish leaders haven't told the Jews that that has happened. Many Jews out of habit through the unthinking continue to believe that the left is their friend. Now the left has always been pretending to be about morality, about the poor, about the people who need help and so forth.

And that appeals to Jews based on Jewish values and education. They don't understand how there's a bait and switch here. They don't understand how they're being manipulated. They being the Jewish community because of their compassion and so forth.

And the only way that's going to change is when Jewish leaders educate the Jewish community about what's really happening. How the left is not their friend anymore. The left has always been about power.

And once they have power, they're not as concerned about the powerless. One example is the issue of abortion. I would think that there would have been more engagement and more involvement by Jewish leadership in the issue of abortion. And abortion was led more, in all reality, the Catholic Church played a big role in fighting against abortion all these years. There were a lot of Protestant churches that got involved in it as well. But the Jewish community by and large was not on the front pages related to that particular issue. And some might argue that there was some of the, again, very left-leaning that were justifying it to some degree. I mean, am I... Well, I think, quite frankly, abortion is one of the most complicated subjects you can think of at some level.

At some level it's simple, but at some level it's very complicated about what is life, what's a human, when does life begin, and so forth. I think, in general, Jewish leaders are sort of beholden to their congregation, to the community, which tend to be sensitive to women's rights and women's choices. And it's not something they wanted to get involved with, because even Jewish law is very complicated when it comes to abortion. It may not be as clear-cut as it is for the Catholic Church. So they basically were on the side of the women's point of view, politically speaking. But it was not really a big Jewish issue. And it's still debated. It's not clear-cut. And the women's right issue, I think, is an interesting topic, too, to a degree.

Because the debate being, if in fact this is a life at conception, then now that life has a certain level of value. And the idea, you know, I mean, one of the things, because we get that same thing, I get that same question in Christendom, right? Well, you know, the Christian, you know, the woman is subservient and less than and all those kinds of things.

But the reality is that that's not the message of either the Old Testament or the New Testament. The woman is given great value. And there's, you know, I mean, there's an entire proverb that's dedicated to a virtuous woman.

Of course, of course. You know, every Friday, a Jewish husband talks about the value of the Jewish wife. No one talks about the value of the Jewish father or husband all week long.

I mean, so I mean, it's given women special recognition, given their unique role in giving life, in nurturing life. Right. The exact thing we began talking about in this segment. We're not done, folks. We got another half hour coming at you. And we want to talk a lot here in this next half hour about the issue of anti-Semitism and what's happening and how that has risen to a very high crescendo right now. And we need to address it because, folks, I'm telling you, the Jewish people have always been the canary in the coal mine.

Welcome back to Chosen Generation Radio. I'm your host Pastor Greg and my very special friend Avi Goldwasser with the Jewish Leadership Project is with me. Avi, we're talking about as we were kind of going through and kind of laying the groundwork for understanding the anti-Semitic challenges that we face today. Can you talk to me about what you're seeing and and I guess build the bridge between you know what we've been talking about versus where we're seeing anti-Semitic attitudes?

Yeah, yeah. So I think we're in a very sad situation right now from my point of view in terms of all these forces that are promoting hostility to Jews for different reasons. It's a kind of intersectionality of hate and we always start with the traditional neo-Nazis, white supremacists who've been sort of hating Jews for many, many years. But the real issue today in my opinion, the real long-term threat is actually coming from another source which is broadly speaking from the left in terms of the people in the universities, in K-12 education and in the media. These thought leaders are infecting a large segment of the population with anti-Jewish thoughts.

To me that is a big problem for the long term. It's a kind of indoctrination or miseducation of the American public. Ethnic studies is coming to K-12.

That's going to be harmful to Jews and universities. We've got BDS movements. We've got various hostilities that singles out the only Jewish state.

It's astounding. There's no BDS movement against China, against any other country. Syria killed 2 million people, including thousands of Palestinians.

No one cares. The hypocrisy is so thick, but it's reflective of several things. First of all, I think that there are certain people who have a need to blame others for their own failure.

There are people who envy the success of others. And there are always demagogues who will use that to incite people against others. The fact is, the way I look at the world, humans are tribal. We're always acting a tribal matter.

That's just the way we are. You may be a liberal tribe, whatever the tribe is, religious, cultural, and these tribes are always competing and collaborating for power. The whole concept of intersectionality is to bring a coalition of tribes against the dominant tribe, which is the white people in America. But it's always tribal politics. When it comes to Jews, the tribal politics have to do with the position that Jews have. And many times Jews are in a position where they are competing with other groups.

I grew up in New York City. There was a big school strike where basically the black community wanted to replace Jewish teachers in public schools with black teachers. So it's a kind of tribal warfare, despite all the rhetoric about injustice and slavery and so forth. And so today what we see is a combination of envy, resentment, and tribal warfare directed at the Jews, because Jews are perceived to be privileged, to have special powers, too successful, and it's easy to incite people against them.

The sad part is, where is the decent center? Where are the decent people? What's going on in universities is indecent. Well, if I could just interject for a second, you know, I mean, essentially what's going on to a degree is you have Jewish people who are living by a code of honor. They're living by a code of ethics, generally speaking. And that code of honor and that code of ethics has a biblical root. And it's one of the reasons why, you know, the early Christian communities were assaulted as well. The Christian communities looked at that. I mean, they came out of, or they were a part of, they really didn't come out of, they were a part of the Jewish community. It was just simply a matter of believing whether or not the Messiah had come or hadn't come. They believed that he had.

And that caused some consternation. But, you know, even the Sadducees and the Pharisees, really, they had done exactly what we're watching happen with, you know, the Jewish leadership that you're trying to get corrected and get on the right task. And that is they aligned themselves with Rome. They said, well, you know, we're going to do whatever Rome tells us to do so we can get along with Rome so we can keep our power and stay in charge.

And that was essentially, that's different than this particular topic, but it's along the lines of what you're doing and trying to call out the Jewish leadership to say, guys, quit aligning yourself with the evil. Get back on track with the right side of the road here. And, you know, if people are going to be upset because we're going to work harder, because we're going to do the right thing even when nobody's looking, I mean, that's the nature of man.

The nature of man is, is to do the wrong thing when no one's looking. That was what our founders said. Now, we don't want those kind of people. We don't want that. We don't want to put them in the position of making decisions on our behalf.

I mean, I'll be that at the end of the day, right? I think if you think about everything that the current regime in Washington is doing, it's all about equality. It's all about equality. That is, inequality is the biggest thing. And politics on the left certainly is all about eliminating inequalities. And in that sense, any successful group has to be diminished to create equality. Let me throw this word in.

Rather than equality, I would say equity. Big difference. Absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah.

Go ahead. Yes. Yes. I mean, equity is another way of saying we want equality of results. Right.

It is not equality of opportunity. We're going to force equality of results. Right. No matter what. And that's exactly what's happening. They're going to force it.

Yeah. They cloak it as equality. But it's not equality.

The thing they do very well is corrupt language. Nothing means what you think it means. Racism, you cannot define, equality, it's all being corrupted. But the goal is to flatten differences. Because any differences are a problem. They believe in total equality.

That's why they call it equity. The point is, because Jews have been successful, they're a natural target for people who seek equality. To diminish, weaken, as they say, afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted. I mean, these are kind of silly notions. You have to weaken the strong and strengthen the weak. It's kind of nonsense.

And in that sense, anybody who's successful, whether it's Chinese Americans or Jews, they're going to be a target. It's not lifting people up. It's pushing people down.

It's empty to create equality. Yeah. Well, I mean, look at what they're doing in schools. What they've done in the schools is they keep lowering the curve. And part of that is, and we talked about this in the break, but part of that is they want to dumb people down. And then they turn right around and say, now that we've got you dumbed down, now we know you're too stupid to govern yourself.

So now we're going to make all the decisions. They're playing both sides. These elites want power.

Absolutely. And they want to maintain power. And to dumb down education is a huge advantage to them to manipulate and control people.

Yeah. But getting back to anti-Semitism, I think Jews are visible in position of power and success, and therefore the natural target for people who believe in forcing equality are people who have not been so successful. And we're seeing it in different ways. But basically, if you think about the left, the left is all about power in the name of equality. But they always seek power to do whatever they want. Of course, the equality they seek is not the equality that we would naturally understand. It's all about power. This is how they find purpose and meaning in life. When they have the power to do right, whatever that right thing. The sad thing is a lot of Jewish leaders, and this is our problem, okay, I sort of believe in this concept of equality.

Okay. And therefore, they join the left in many of these political campaigns to help, you know, underprivileged groups, to help refugees. It's compassion Uber Alles, as if life is so simple. Right. You know, there's a famous saying that many Jewish leaders use when talking about accepting refugees.

Welcome the stranger. And when you ask them, look, in 1945, the Nazis were fleeing Germany. They lost the war. Should we have welcomed them to America?

The radical ideologies that are targeting and creating anti-Semitism in our nation. And really, again, as I said, it's so important that we address this issue because the assault on Judaism is the first, is always the first step. It's one of the first places that the totalitarians and the authoritarian regimes go is to assault Judaism and to assault our Jewish brothers and sisters.

And so it's important for us to understand that and to recognize that. And, you know, we've seen an increase. I'm part of the advisory board for Save the Persecuted Christians.

We've jumped now to the point that there are right now, right this moment, 360 million Christians that are being persecuted around the country or around the world, I should say. And, you know, that there's a direct correlation between that persecution and the persecution and the anti-Semitism that's happening not only just here, but around the world as well. And that's the reason for addressing this with leaders.

Avi? Yes. No, I think that what's most concerning, I mean, as a Jew in the Jewish community, we don't necessarily, we cannot control what the white supremacists or the black nationalists or the Muslims are going to do. But we should be able to control what our leaders do or don't do. If there's one thing we should be able to influence is the Jewish leadership. Now, sadly, Jewish leadership is not elected.

They're mostly appointed by donors. And these leaders have their own agenda. And certainly many of them have failed to do what they were chosen to do, which is to protect the Jewish community. And this is our concern.

We cannot survive with weak leaders. And many of these leaders are politically, ideologically conflicted between their progressive ideology and their job to protect the Jewish community. They're confused. They're morally confused and they're conflicted. And we've been fighting them to make sure they understand that fighting for social justice does not necessarily translate to protection of the Jewish community as much as they like to believe that it's that simple.

So we want them to do their job. Their job is to protect the Jewish community first and foremost. If you go to any Jewish institution, what you'll notice is the security features. There are barriers. Sometimes there are people with guns to protect the Jews.

This is crazy. It wasn't this way 50 years ago. It wasn't this way 40 years ago.

And it's happening because there's been so much incitement against Jews in public, in the media, in the universities that people feel comfortable attacking Jews and getting away with it. In New York City, you can attack the Jew in the morning and be out on bail. There's no bail. You'll be out the next day and you can do it again.

There are no consequences. Yeah. I was talking to you in the break about the two different definitions. So one is zur, which you had mentioned to me, and then the other one is ger. Yes. Quite frankly, I'm not familiar with the differences, but you're right.

Those two words are used. I brought it up in the context of many Jewish leaders who devote so much effort to welcome refugees from Afghanistan, from Syria, which is very noble. But at the time when Jews are being assaulted in the street, that wouldn't seem to be the highest priority. And the Jewish leaders will say, well, we have an obligation to welcome the stranger.

Well, that's a bit simplistic. We didn't welcome the refugees from Nazi Germany. The Nazis were fleeing Germany after World War II. They were strangers. So simplistic cliches like that don't help deal with the complexity of the situation.

The sad fact is that every day you read about Jews being assaulted, many times by immigrants. Well, and so ger means sojourner, temporary dweller, newcomer with no inherited rights. And zur is the more common, which speaks to someone who is coming to the country in a legal manner.

But even still, it's interesting because the New International Translation, zur is used three times for adulterous, twice for alien, enemy, estranged, foreign, foreigner, illegitimate, layman, outsider, satisfied, strange, and then stranger seven times. So, you know, even in that, depending on the circumstance, right, it can have some varying meanings. But the idea that I believe that our founders of our nation looked at was if you're going to come here, you come legally, you go through a process of becoming a citizen of this nation. And you take an oath of allegiance to the country to become a citizen of this country. And that should be every person who comes here, that should be their goal. Unless of course, they're just visiting. And if they are, that's why we welcome you can visit but then go and don't try and bring your ideals into our country or change our nation. That's exactly right.

And that's what's been lost. People have the notion that everybody in the world has a right to become an American. It's not an entitlement. It's a bargain.

You can come but you have to follow certain things. And this process has worked very well for hundreds of years. Now it's breaking down because people misunderstood the other side of the bargain.

Yeah. And it's so important, you know, again, in speaking to Jewish leadership in particular, that the Jewish leaders get on the right side of this situation. And that's the message that you're bringing is Jewish leadership needs to adjust their view and get on the right side of this. Yeah, we believe that many of them are morally confused. They don't really understand human nature.

They don't really understand the nature of politics, tribal politics, which is what we always have. And consequently, they've weakened the Jewish community, and they've caused a great deal of harm. And therefore we want to engage with them to change what they're doing because we cannot continue to go along the path and expect that the hostility to the Jewish community will be reduced. They must change their policies. So how, real quickly, and our final moment here, how do folks engage in that process for our Jewish listening and viewing audience? What would you ask them to do?

What are some steps they can take? Okay, so our approach, we're a small organization, is to take a very local approach. That is, we want, we have teams in various cities, and their job is to engage with the local leadership, to educate the local community about the failure of the leaders to protect them. Okay, and we know that the power structure in the community is such that the donors select the leaders. So ultimately, we need to educate the donors about the failure of leadership.
