From the Mighty 990 Broadcast Center, you're waking up in Starnes Country with Todd Starnes. And good morning, everybody. Welcome to Starnes Country. Great to have you with us today. A lot happening here in the Mid-South.
By the way, if you are on Interstate 40, you are and you're westbound, you are not going anywhere quickly. A big fire early this morning, a big rig con fire, and traffic is an absolute mess. We just checked in with our TDOT traffic cameras, and it is wall-to-wall traffic.
So do not get on I-40 West from Canada Road, or else you're just going to be sitting in a parking lot right now. By the way, if you are out there on the roadways this morning and you see something, you want to file a report with us, give us a call, 901-260-5926. Again, that's 901-260-5926, and you will be officially deputized. As a KWAM traffic trooper, which is kind of a cool thing to put on the resume. All right.
Well, I guess some exciting news. The Memphis Police Department announced yesterday, to the shock of the nation, That crime here in the Mid-South is now at a 25-year all-time low. And I think this may have come as a surprise to this gentleman who lives in the Oak Haven neighborhood, cut number five. All right, we'll hopefully get to that audio a little bit later. But the guy said you better carry a gun if you've got any sense because it's not safe out here.
That's coming from a guy in Oak Haven.
So again, Memphis Police Department touting the. And they're claiming, they're claiming that they have not skewed the numbers at all, but they claim that crime has never been at this low since what, 2020. 2005, 2006 is what they're telling us. Unbelievable.
Well, to help us figure all of this out, let's go to our Patriot mobile newsmaker line right now. Say hello to our friend John Covington from the Memphis Police Association, also the host of Behind the Badge, which you can hear exclusively on the Mighty 990. John, good to have you with us this morning.
So, what do you make of the big announcement last night?
Well, good to be here, Todd. Thank you.
Well, I've lived here my whole life. I don't want to date myself, but I was You know, unlike young Cassie answer the phone, 25 years ago, I was out round and about. probably when she was being born, and it felt a lot safer twenty-five years ago here in Memphis for me. Um so I'll uh came out. I will hope that they will publish all the raw data and methodology.
and show us how they got to these numbers. I will say certainly we're at a twenty five year low in number of officers on the streets. I know that for certain. And I I guess I want to be clear too, you know. we have seen some downward trends around the nation and so forth.
And when we see declines, we want to celebrate that. But I think we have to keep this in context. And if anybody looks, and it's on my page, Uh Facebook page. Major violent crime is is Up higher than it's ever been. And now we've seen a couple of drops in aggravated assault and murder, but we're still.
Number one in the nation.
So, you know, with All these things, you got to keep it in context. And what do people think in terms of crime? violent crime. And that is a major, major issue.
Well, no doubt about that. And I mean, just what, over the weekend, you had four children shot. My concern here is when you look at the numbers, and guys, are we live on Facebook? Let's get that going, please. If, John, one of the things that I'm concerned about is, for example, the four children shot.
On um on Sunday, that if I'm reading the numbers correctly, that would account for one incident uh when the NPD is actually counting their crime numbers.
Well, and actually I I The a local news uh media Source who I I won't say their name 'cause they they irritate me, but they get some things right every now and then. And they had a quote which was correct and they said that data represents the number of reported incidents of crime which could involve more than one victim.
So that that's an important aspect to understand that it's it's the incident, but there could be more victims and The approach is that's not being reported. And so ultimately What do we want to know? You want to know what your chances are of being robbed or shot or or whatever.
So you have to take a certain amount of grain of salt and and how you look at that because you're hearing about the incidents, not the number of victims. John Covington from the Memphis Police Association on our Patriot Mobile newsmaker line this morning, weighing in and reacting to this news.
Now, John, it seems to me, and I'm just going to say, I will say this. We're going to have some breaking news coming out. That will be here in the Memphis area, the Mid-South area. That is going to be national in scope. And that announcement is going to be coming within the next several days.
And it very well will be it will be broken on the Mighty 990. And that's all I can tell you at this point. But I will say this, I'm wondering. I'm just suspect here because I don't think that these numbers and this report was coming out just uh coincidentally at this time. And I'm wondering if these numbers and if this announcement was made to basically thwart what is about to happen in the Mid-South.
Of course, what kind of one that pops in anyone's mind Who who looks at it, um, so possibly You know, it's hard to say. But I will say that to me it is an issue if you If you go out onto social media and look at the comments underneath the various news stories and announcements. I think anybody can see pretty quickly that there is some Uh questioning. uh you know of this announcement And I think that's a problem now. If Let's say in reality that we are seeing these big Yeah.
As I say, I would hope that the raw data and methodology will get out there so people can have uh can look at it and break it down and go through it themselves, which I think would be helpful. But if you look at all the comments, there's some There's a little bit of doubt out there. I don't think anybody in the city believes this nonsense. This is ludicrous. I was being fair, so I'll go to Better Cow.
But yeah, so I'll be very interested to see the timing is interesting. And I'm just excited and to make sure everybody stays tuned to KWAM because there's a lot of Rumors swirling about and everything.
So I know there's that big exciting news you're talking about. And boy, the nation's going to be riveted to Memphis, I think. I have no doubt they will be. And again, we can only say what we're allowed to say at this point. But I think it's going to be a great thing.
I think the citizens of Memphis and some of the hardest-hit crime areas are going to be so relieved in the coming days. And it's a big deal. You know what gets me, John? And I'm curious to hear what the rank and file, the officers out on the streets are saying about all of this. Because if you believe what C.J.
Davis put out, and by the, well, there's so many things I got to say, but let me finish this on. If you believe the numbers that C.J. Davis put out, you don't need any more police officers in Memphis. You don't need any more resources in Memphis.
Well As far as that is it's it's just a general assertion. Uh as I We are stretched so thick. right now. A number of officers and these poor guys and gals are being run ragged out there, and it's just overwhelming. to call to call to call.
And I've said before, we're about five hundred officers short. And to really get this. Where we need to be. Yeah, but the police chief just said, John, 25-year low, you don't need those 500 officers. Everything's hunky-dory right now.
That would be a troubling situation if we move forward and we did not put everything we have into getting more offset. But you know, but John, you know that that's exactly what these activist groups that want to defund the police. They're going to take this story and they're going to use that as their rationale to go to City Hall and say the NPD doesn't need any more money because with the resources they already have, they've made Memphis one of the safest cities in America. That is definitely a worry. I'm not going to lie to you.
We'll be keeping an eye on that because the bottom line, the only thing that's ever proven to work is numbers. And as I say, in twenty eleven, the highest number we ever had, the lowest major violent crime, we're talking about murder, burglary, homicide. Right. The things that people really terrify people and that make businesses leave, that make people not want it to come. come here.
And uh We're seeing record highs of that stuff still, even with some drops. And so We have got to maintain our focused, it's going to take the numbers to do it. And that's that's just been borne out over time. And any help we can get to do that is going to be a good thing because ultimately, it's all about visibility. capability, that means having the equipment and the people and accountability.
And with those three things, we can get where we need to be, but we're not there. John, let me ask you, is it possible that this announcement came out of City Hall? Maybe this was crafted with the mayor's team and the police chief working in tandem? Yeah, I couldn't speak to it. I don't know for sure.
Just like every other citizen, I just saw it come out It's very strange because I mean, something like this, you would have a press conference, balloons, people slapping each other on the back. It's just sort of weird they would drop something of this magnitude in a press release on social media.
Well, that's a great point. Honest, Todd, I had not really thought in those terms, and that's why you get paid the big bucks, the master of all media, and understand. You know how this works and how you make an impact and how you do an announcement properly and things of that nature.
So that's a very good point, and one I had not really thought of. That's food for thought. All right, John Covington, as always, we appreciate your great analysis. And folks, listen to John every Saturday here on the 9990 behind the badge. John, thanks a lot for calling in this morning.
Thank you, my friend. Have a great day. All right.
And, folks, we're going to be taking your calls as well. Do you believe? What the MPD is telling us here is that overall crime in Memphis is at a 25-year low. I want to go back, and I think we've got this audio now. This is a guy from Oak Haven, and here's what he had to say about all of this.
I said, You better carry a gun with you if you got any sense. It's unsafe out here. It's not safe out here. You better carry a gun if you got any sense. I think that's the most common sense thing I've heard in a very long time here in Memphis.
All right, we want to hear from you, and let me go back to, and I apologize for being coy with you. It's not, well, it is intentional. We're just not allowed to share a lot of what we know, but I can tell you that there are going to be things happening here in the Mid-South over the coming days that I think are going to bring shock and awe to the criminal element here and also to the elected leaders who are coddling the criminals.
So, we want to hear from you this morning, though. Are you buying what MPD is selling? 25-year low, crime in the Mid-South, 901-260. 960-5926. That's 901-260-5926.
Again, that big fire on I-40 between Canada Road and Highway 64. We'll get the very latest Commander Chuck standing by in the K-WAM Traffic Center. And welcome back, everybody. This is Starnes Country here in the principal Toyota Memphis studio. Hope you're off to a great start for your day.
By the way, I got to give a big shout out to Deputy McFadden of the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, Lee Hury, riding in, says that he was on the side of Hacks Cross with a blowout. His jack was buried under all these materials.
So Deputy McFadden pulls over to see what he can do to help. He ends up driving to AutoZone, picking up a floor jack, and he brought it back. to help a mr huey And this is what it means, as Mr. Huey wrote on social media: this is what it means to protect. and serve.
These deputies put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe and still go the extra mile to lend a helping hand. Thank you, Deputy McFadden from the Shelby County Sheriff's Department, for your kindness and dedication.
So we sure do appreciate all the men and women who wear the uniform that patrol our streets and keep all of us safe out there. And good for you, Deputy McFadden. Welcome back again to Stern's Country, 901-260-5926. Do you believe the numbers that are coming out of the Memphis Police Department that crime is at an historic low? Think back twenty-five years ago.
What it was like living in Memphis. And I remember those, I remember those times. I remember those years. And I am telling you, it is a very different city.
now than it was twenty-five years ago. I remember, and I was working in New York City at the time. I would come back, and my grandmother and grandparents lived at Kirby Pines. They were one of the original couples to move into Kirby Pines. And my grandmother always loved going to Oak Court, and she was very fond of the Godiva chocolate shop there at Oak Court.
And I remember back in the day, that mall was the premier destination. And many of you remember that. It was the premier destination, the shopping destination where you had all the high-end shops, all the high-end stores, and people were able to go and hang out at the mall. There was none of this chaos. There was none of the fights and the gunfire, all that stuff.
It was a completely different time. And I think a lot of people remember those days.
Well, the Memphis Police Department, C.J. Davis, is telling us. That time never really existed, that this is the safest moment. In the history of the city of Memphis, 901-260-5926. Our telephone number.
That's 901-260-5926. As a matter of fact, Pastor Keith Norman of the First Baptist Church on Broad says the real problem here is the FBI director Cash Patel saying that Memphis is a dangerous place. Cut number two. Memphis has always found a way to work through all of those things. We have found a way to be a city that finds its North Star, if you will.
A shootout in the middle of the day, a 10-year-old child caught in the middle of it. Memphis, Tennessee is the homicide capital of America per capita. FBI directors calling the city out on a national stage. Police responded to seven separate shootings on Sunday alone, three more Saturday. 12 people shot, three dead.
And it shouldn't even be like that. My name is Keith Norman. I serve as the senior pastor of the First Baptist Church at 2835 Broad Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee. Memphis is not the murder capital of the United States. I do not feel as if they're painting an accurate crime, a picture of the crime in Memphis.
I believe that sometimes the overstatement or the concentration on items, and then the words that are chosen, the way it is said, and when you take a high-profile person to come out and say it in a national forum on a national news program, it really does have a negative impact. And so that begins to impact the economy, it begins to impact tourism, it begins to impact so many things, especially the mental narrative of the people who want to visit this space or people who actually live in this space. But if you ask Memphians about those stories, they know that there have been positive trends. We have seen positive things with our Tennessee Highway Patrol partnering with our local police force. We have begun to see a greater presence, and we began to see more recent.
Resources invested in the spaces around our city, in the downtown area, in the high crime areas, to drive down those numbers and to permanently eradicate that problem from coming back over and over again. We can't arrest our way out of this problem. I want to be very clear about that. We have to make sure that we bring intervention strategies and prevention strategies to the table so that we are preventing people from getting involved in this system and then intervening at the proper time. Memphis is a great place to live.
To work. To Relax, play, and worship. I don't find Memphis to be a threatening place at all. I find it to be a place that I love to call home. And I see those potentials and great possibilities still rising day by day.
All right, I know this guy's a preacher, but he was just spewing an entire crock-o'crap, ladies and gentlemen. This, again, Pastor Norman of the First Baptist Church in Broad.
Now, you might say, wow, did the Daily Memphian do that? I've never heard such far left nonsense before. No, ladies and gentlemen, it's not the Daily Memphian. This is from a Fox News piece. They actually sent a reporter Her name is Hannah Rae Lambert.
They sent a reporter to Memphis and they interviewed this guy. And the big headline on Fox News: Memphis Pastor pushes back on murder capital labels.
So now, Fox News channel is taking the side of the leftist. This report makes the daily Memphian look like Newsmax. What the hell is going on at Fox News Channel these days? Good lord! Unbelievable.
All right, we've got to take a quick break here, folks. Again, our telephone number: 901-260-5926. This is Stern's Country on the Mighty 990. All right, it is going to be a hot one today, folks. Temperature heading back up into the 90s.
Laura Huckabee will have the full forecast coming up in the Mighty 990 Weather Center in just a little while. Also, Jim Miller at the top of the hour with your local headlines exclusively here on the Mighty 990. Hey, by the way, Collierville High School, the Future Farmers of America, wanted us to pass this along. They are one of the top FFA groups in the nation. A lot of folks didn't realize that, but some really talented kids every year they do a huge fundraiser, the Collierville FFA Mum Sale, and you got to get your orders in.
And Collierville, they're going to have beautiful mums in red, white, orange, and yellow, just 15 bucks a piece. You're going to be able to pick up your mums on October 3rd, but first you got to order them, and you have until September 15th at noon.
So, you got to get those orders in, and you'll be able to pick those up at the Collierville High School Greenhouse. You say, How do I order? We've made it very simple for you. All you have to do is go to our Facebook page, the Mighty 990 Facebook page. And in our live stream, we have included the link to the mum fundraiser for our friends at Collierville High School.
So, anyway, go and. If that's your cup of tea, and I know our Mid-South gardening crew on Saturdays are going to be all over this. Also, want to bring to your attention a really Frustrating story for the South Haven High School Marching Band. They had a. They had a really unfortunate situation.
I'll share it with you. And then we've got to do something to help these kids out.
So there was a treasurer of the Band Booster Club, and she got arrested. She's charged with embezzling close to $40,000. From the high school marching band, and the reason why this is important, and if you've been in marching band, you know. It takes a lot of money. To buy instruments, to rent buses, to pay for the gas for all of these trips.
And the marching band kids do a great job. And we have some of the best musicians in the nation right here in the Mid-South. According to the band boosters, They need some help. Because they need, well, they need $40,000 that was stolen. We understand from the South Haven Police Department.
That the former treasurer Christina Thompson was charged with embezzling close to 40 grand. 47 years old, indicted on charges of embezzlement, and she was taken into custody by the DeSoto County Sheriff's. office.
So now the band is in a pickle, and they need some help.
So here's what we're going to do to help them out. We have posted a link to a GoFundMe page, and they're trying to recoup the $40,000, $50,000 they need to help the marching band kids. And I want you to head over again to our Facebook page. Cassie posted the link there, and you'll be able to go directly to their GoFundMe page. And you'll be able to make a donation.
Whatever you can do to help these kids out. Would be truly, truly great.
So the b and by the way, the kids are working their butts off to try to raise this money as well. They are doing a lot of fundraising events. They're doing raffles. They're doing car washes. They're They're doing all sorts of dine and donate nights.
So it I think our great audience and you guys have been so generous. I have no doubt that you're going to be able to help these kids. Again, the GoFundMe link. Is there. You can also make a contribution through their website, south havenbandboosters.org.
That's southhavenbandboosters.org. And I have no doubt they would really, really appreciate whatever help we can send their way. And we'll be reminding you about this over the next week or so. We want to make sure that we get those kids taken care of. I want to play some audio here from Fox 13.
They actually went out there. And they talk to kids or talk to people in the community. About crime, and here's what they had to say: cut number four. But you can just hear gunshots all the time, and I just don't think the crime is down. Yeah.
It's not at all. People aren't buying it. A bold declaration from Memphis police tonight. The NPD says crime in the city is now at a 25-year low. Thank you for being with us tonight.
I'm Daryl Green. And I'm Darcy Thomas. While Memphis Police say overall, crime is at a historic low. The staggering statistic is hard for so many in our community to believe. Fox Routine's Carolyn Serter joins us in the studio tonight.
Carolyn, you spoke with neighbors about the latest numbers.
Well, Darcy and Darrell Memphis Police released those new numbers today showing what the department calls historic crime reductions. But there's reality and perception. And some neighbors I spoke with today tell me in their lived experience to them those numbers lie. I don't believe it. I really don't.
I mean, because you hear so much that's going on every day, and just hear all the shootings. It's very scary. Rhonda Quinn lives in Midtown and says she doesn't always feel safe to leave her home, which is why new numbers from Memphis police showing crime is at a 25-year low is hard for her and others to believe. Yeah. It's probably down some, but not the way they're saying, because we just see and hear too much.
And some things are not reported. That's the problem. Memphis police say so far this year, the murder rate is at a six-year low in the city. They say aggravated assaults are also down to their lowest level since the pandemic. And one of the biggest differences was in robberies, also at a 25-year low.
I would believe it due to how many um patrols I've seen around. But I wouldn't believe it because of how much I see it firsthand. That perception versus reality is exactly what Fox 13 recently brought up with Chief CJ Davis, especially when we're hearing our city's crime talked about on a national level. We have to keep talking about it. We really do, and we can't ignore the numbers.
The numbers do speak for themselves. And I think when it comes to perception, you know, people who see a crime occur in their community or in their neighborhood, they may associate it with these types of crimes happening all over the city. I just, I love being in Memphis and I feel safe here.
Some say they do see the difference.
Well, I mean, whenever you're looking at the data, I mean, that's all you really need to look at. And I mean, you can look down here and see that, you know, everyone's always out doing something. or like the streets always full and busy. I don't feel less safe in Memphis than I have in other cities. The city has a lot to offer and it's good to hear that there are good things happening here as well.
Now Memphis police say these declines come out of initiatives focused on fugitives and repeat offenders. They say partnerships with local, state and federal agencies have also contributed to the downward trend. Yeah, that's BS. But I want to go back and just an observation here. When they were interviewing the citizens, all of the people that say crime is off the charts and they've seen it with their own eyes, these are minorities.
The people that said, Well, we think that crime we think Memphis is just the safest place in the world. Yeah, those are all white folks. And they They stink of liberals. I'm just going to throw that out there. But anyway, thanks to Fox 13 for actually going out and talking to the citizens and finding out what's really on people's minds.
All right, 901-260-5926, our telephone number. That's 901-260-5926. Before we go to break, got to give a salute to Memphis International Airport.
Some exciting news. Yesterday, Delta launching a nonstop flight from Memphis to JFK.
So all of you folks heading out there to see Broadway shows, and I know we have a large contingent that heads up to New York City for the weekend. This is great news.
So Memphis, again, Delta Airlines launching nonstop service from Memphis to JFK. That kicked off yesterday. Do you know they give people free cookies on the inaugural flights? That's a pretty nice thing. Also, Frontier Airlines announcing a new nonstop route between Memphis and Atlanta.
That is hopefully going to lower the price the ticket prices over at Delta. But again, that all starts twice a week. A Memphis to Atlanta on Frontier. Why this is exciting is that Memphis is building Memphis International building back. Its passenger count since Delta pulled out years ago as one of the regional hubs.
So, well done to the team over at Memphis International. All right, got to take a break. We're going to check in with Commander Chuck. He's standing by with a look on that situation out on I-40. It is still a parking lot, folks.
Hang tight. This is Strange Country. All right, some exciting news. For all you Shakespeare fans out there, the Memphis Shakespeare Company, really the Tennessee Shakespeare Company, based in Memphis, will feature two productions. And by the way, they're free.
That's right, free. It all starts on September 27th at Collierville Town Square Train Depot. They're going to have a free community performance of Much Ado About Nothing.
So, if you're trying to get your kids interested in literature and things of that nature, it's just going to be a fun, fun night.
So, again, all of that takes place September 27th, and you can find more information at the Tennessee Shakespeare Company. Again, putting on two free series of shows, and we certainly appreciate that. Romeo and Juliet. They're going to be doing starting in March. But right now, September 27th at the Collierville Town Square, the train depot.
By the way, they're also going to be doing performances at the Wise Acre at Wiseacre Brewing, the Raleigh Library, Overton Squares, Chimes Square, Tom Lee Park, and the Overton Park Shell.
So lots of opportunities for you to get in on the action there. Again, the free show, courtesy of the Tennessee Shakespeare Company. All right, 901-260-5926 is our telephone number. By the way, congratulations to Officer Jimmy White of the Germantown Police Department. And speaking, let me put a pen in that for a moment.
And we got a chance to meet, I believe his name is Officer Mango from the Germantown Police Department. Came by and visited with us at the Germantown Festival over the weekend. What a great guy! Had a great conversation, and we certainly appreciate the great work Germantown PD is doing. But anyway, Officer Jimmy White has been selected as the Sons of the American Revolution Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, which is sort of huge, a big deal.
Before Officer White joined the Germantown Police Department, he served 32 years with the Memphis Police Department. And he has been recognized many times for his professionalism and for his dedication and compassion to the job. By the way, do you know that he was one of the guys involved in the rescue of the nine ducks, the little ducklings that got tramped in the storm drain?
So we certainly appreciate the great work of Officer White, and we certainly appreciate the Sons of the American Revolution for recognizing one of our great officers. Oh, I've got to tell you about this story. This is insane.
So our friends over at the Republican Party of Shelby County. shared this information about District Attorney Steve Mulroy.
Now, I want to go back and we're going to play some audio here. And this is, I was actually there when Mulroy said this. He was doing a town hall meeting. And Steve Mulroy said that he had never taken a single penny of George Soros' money at all. Cut number three, please.
Is it true that your campaign for election received financial support from George Soros or a fund controlled by him? Why would someone like Mr.
Soros have an interest in Shelby County? I did not receive funding during the campaign from George Soros. Uh oh. Uh oh. Well That may not necessarily be accurate.
The Republican Party of Shelby County is sharing an explosive report now linking Mulroy to a progressive activist organization that is in fact funded by George Soros. The Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund released its report yesterday. And the title of it, Outsourcing Justice: How Donors and Activists Control Progressive Prosecutors and Corrupt the Criminal Justice System from Within. This is a shocking thing. And I want to read you the part that involves our district attorney because our district attorney topped the list of the most radical progressive prosecutors in the nation.
which again These great officers out there driving around, patrolling our streets, arresting the bad guys. They're still doing the paperwork and the bad guys are walking out the front door. It's unbelievable.
So here's what they said about Mulroy. Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy was propelled into office in 2022. Are you ready for this? With over $900,000 from PACs funded by Priscilla Chan, the wife of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, and George Soros.
Soros personally gave two hundred and eighty thousand dollars to the pro-Mulroy Pack People for Fairness and Justice. Unbelievable.
By the way, we also understand he received $500,000 from another radical group.
So, we certainly appreciate this information coming out, but again, They're alleging that Steve Mulroy is being funded by George Soros.
So it seems to me that Mulroy needs to come out, and he needs to come clean here. And look, if George Soros is the guy who funded his campaign, why would he hide that information? Be proud of who's putting you into office unless Mulroy has something to hide here.
So something is clearly, clearly not right. in the Shelby County District Attorney's Office. And folks, you heard Edmund Forne Jr. just a few days ago during the Shelby County Commission meeting. There is corruption.
Within city and county government, and it is about to come out. And when it does, We can only hope and pray that justice is served. And I say that because of what happened last night in Charlotte, North Carolina.
So, we've all been following the story. We've been talking about it on the national show of the young girl from Ukraine. who was stabbed to death, on that light rail train in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Well, the mayor, who is a soft on crime mayor, The first black female Mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina. She was She was reelected yesterday in the Democrat primary. Over 70 something percent of the vote. She's the one that has turned Charlotte into, I don't know, Memphis Junior. It's just unbelievable.
And the people had a chance to go out there and have their say yesterday. They could have gone out and voted. And they could have said, you know what? We're not going to live like this anymore. We need a change at City Hall.
And we're going to vote for somebody else, even if it's a Democrat.
Now, again, there will be a general election. There will be a Republican nominee, but. Charlotte, just like Memphis, has been controlled by Democrats for generations. But clearly the people in Charlotte Vote just like the people here in Memphis. And the people in Memphis vote for two things: are you black?
Are you a Democrat? And if you're one of those two things, you're getting elected. They people here in Memphis In Shelby County, we don't vote for the best and the brightest. We vote based on skin color and whether or not you're a Democrat. And if you're not a Democrat, you don't get a person's vote.
I mean, it's that simple.
