They're on I-240 as well as 55 and I-40.
So a lot going on out there. By the way, if you haven't been to our social media pages, that insane Big Rig Accident Amazon delivery truck apparently blew a ton. The driver lost control, went into the opposite lanes of traffic. All of this happening on Interstate 40 eastbound between Memphis and Jackson yesterday. And one fatality, the driver of the truck, they were not able to rescue him, but a lot of people, a lot of people got hurt.
But the good news is there were not multiple fatalities. Certainly, we feel for the poor guy in the truck. But we've got the video of that over on our K-Wame social media pages. You know, it's interesting. John Thune yesterday was the Senate Majority Leader on Fox. And he was confirming something that has concerned me.
And one of the big challenges as we look towards the midterm elections, there just seems to be some lethargy within the Republican side of the aisle. And it's beginning to look like this is all intentional.
So, the majority leader on Fox News yesterday, as well as Senator John Kennedy from Louisiana, and they're both confirming that the Senate will not be helping Ken Paxton defeat James Talafrico.
Now, this is a major Senate race in Texas, but it impacts all of us because the way this is shaping up, there could be a chance for the Democrats to actually get control of the Senate. And possibly the House of Representatives. That's how lethargic Republicans are right now. But what I find fascinating about this Kim Paxton story, and we talked about this on the national radio show yesterday at 11 o'clock, right here on the Mighty 990. One of the big concerns is that the Senate Republicans actually spent $100 million.
For John Cornyn to try and beat Ken Paxton in the primary, and now all of a sudden they say they got no money and they're not going to be helping Ken Paxton.
So, both Kennedy and Thune say if Ken Paxton needs money, he's going to have to ask President Trump. I am telling you. That there are establishment Republicans, and I know these guys are some of you say, Well, Todd, all of these guys are really pro-Trump. No, they're not. Do not be deceived.
They are not pro-Trump. Many of them are closet-never Trumpers. They may get out in front of the cameras and smile and say, make America great again, but they are not pro-Trump. And this is their opportunity to take back the Republican Party. They know after the midterms, Trump is pretty much a de facto lame duck president at that point, and they're going to do what they want to do.
And if that means going back into the minority, many of those Republicans are okay with that. They have absolutely no problem with that.
So here is John Kennedy yesterday on Fox. Cut number 27, please. it didn't sound from his answer that the President made any commitments, either himself or through his super PAC, to write checks for Paxton, at least right now. Does Senate Leadership Fund or NRSC have any plans for T V ads to support him? Because he's down in spending there.
Well, I I listened to your interview. It was very good, by the way. with uh the attorney general look There's no sense bubble wrapping it. We've got a race in Texas. Um And the Attorney General is going to have to do two things.
He's going to have to point out the deficiencies of mister Tattlerico. Uh he really is a luni uh a lulu lennin. And he's a little bit of a weenie. But at the same time, Mr. Paxton is going to have to talk about what he's going to do, a positive platform for the United States Senate.
You can't win an election by saying the other guy is worse than me. Money is an issue. mister Tattlerico has been raising bucket loads of money From California, Hollywood, all the beautiful people who partied with Harvey Weinstein. We in the Senate don't have the money budgeted for Texas. We need help for the president.
from the present. President says he has 850 million dollars in his campaign accounts.
Okay, that's fine. We're done. We're done. So, look, here's the deal here. Yeah, the president's got that money.
The president is going to spend money in Texas as well as here in Tennessee. I have no doubt about that. But the reality is. What are the members of Congress doing? What are the Republican members of Congress doing?
So last night, so let's bring this back to Tennessee. Last night on NewsNation. This was the subject of discussion as they talk about the lethargic nature of the Republicans. Cut number 32, please. And Steve, I was going to ask you too quickly.
In your home of Hamilton County, Tennessee, where you are now, the Republican barely squeezed out a win in the mayoral election after winning in 2022 by 16 points. And the Republican in Knox County also barely won the mayoral election. Trump carried both of these counties in 2024.
So should the GOP be taking these early warning signs seriously before the midterms? Absolutely. Yes. You know, I wrote an article all about this because, frankly, I was astounded. I live here.
This is one of the reddest parts in America, Eastern Tennessee. These should be easy races. They were easy races four years ago, and they got uncomfortably tight this time. That tells me that on a turnout basis, Democrats are incredibly fired up, even in deeply red parts of the country.
So the Democrats aren't going to win Tennessee. They're certainly not going to win Eastern Tennessee. But the fact that they made this uncomfortable for us, In Hamilton County, where I live, that is absolutely a warning sign to all of America and to Republicans. You better develop a sense of urgency right now because as things stand today, we're in trouble. Yeah, look, it's a great word of warning and it's a caution.
And I can promise you, I'll get text messages. Starnes, stop being a negative Nancy. No, it's not being a negative Nancy. I'm just telling you, got to wake up, Republicans. And otherwise, you could be surprised on Election Day.

So, therefore, and just keep this in mind: if you go to these establishments, there may be criminals there. And why would the criminals not be there? I mean, the criminals are going to want to go wherever there are not cops, right?
So it makes perfect sense.

There is a crazy situation happening in Collierville where there is a lot of anger.
I mean, the citizens of Collierville are ready to rise up and march on City Hall. With torches and pitchforks. I mean, that's how. That's how crazy it is right now. And there's been a lot of concern over the treatment of the former fire chief, who by all indications is a good and decent man.
Who has been literally has been treated so unfairly. And there is just a a lot of frustration. Over how all of this went down, and honestly, what happens next? And most of the controversy seems to be around the town administrator. Molly Maynor, who, by the way, and this is sort of odd.
Apparently, there's been at least one other Collierville employee. Who got a nasty letter? From the administrator, because of something he wrote on his personal Facebook page, on his personal social media page. This guy is not. I mean, I tell you, I didn't know who the guy was.
So it wasn't like he was, you know, a. You don't want to diminish anyone, but this was not some sort of a high-profile position here. But what business is it of the town administrator? What anybody posts on their personal Facebook page? In all seriousness.
But it seems as though this town administrator there in Collierville is basically. ruling like this is uh her own fiefdom. And you will do as she says, or you will be gone. And it certainly appears. Uh that's what happened to the poor fire chief.
John Sahlberg, who all of this started a couple of weeks ago, placed on administrative leave, and this thing just exploded. And I know Justin Johnson, one of the conservative leaders in Carierville, has been all over this story. And a lot of people are just really, really frustrated. But there have been a lot of problems, and I think this is the accumulation of those. of those problems is that uh these little issues Uh, have just reached finally to a boiling point in Collierville, and people are really demanding to know what's going on.
Uh, former town employees are very concerned. Uh, there have been terminations, disciplinary actions, appeal, just a lot going on there.
So, the question is: how do you guys handle this in Collierville? I mean, we're talking about one of the fastest-growing cities in West Tennessee.
Well over fifty thousand people. And you do have to wonder. Where the blame falls here? Is it the town administrator? Is it the mayor?
Is it the board of aldermen? They've got to get it together out there in Collierville, but a very disturbing. a very disturbing situation and It certainly seems at the very least the fire chief deserves his job back if he would even be willing to come back. I mean, after the way he was treated? That's insane.
And I've I've heard some of the back story. And it's troubling. It is absolutely troubling. And it seems to me if this was happening in any other city, this would be major, major news. It is not getting as much attention.
And one of the reasons why, apparently, I mean, there are reports that town leaders are actually going after local citizens who are basically just trying to say, hey, folks, we've got problems here. Jeez a Lou.

Jason in Collierville wants to weigh in on what's happening there in the lovely town of Collierville. Hi, Jason.
Good to have you with us this morning. But thanks, Dodd, as always, for having me on. And Bringing up the news in Collierville. Yeah, let's get right to it. What's going on?
Well, look, the the entire town is fed up about our police ch our fire chief being basically forced to retire And now we've got people doing a lot of Freedom of Information request acts and pulling a lot of stuff that these people thought would stand or reps. We've seen the fourteen thousand dollar overpayment of our town administrator's car stipend of four hundred fifty dollars a month. We've seen in four years her salary go from one hundred seventy thousand to two hundred seventeen thousand. We've seen the addition of a deputy. Town administrator, a position that was never here before.
That's what I assume is about $125,000 a year. Um we're seeing Our HR director reported for using a cuss word on his own private social media and given a final write-up and warning. We're seeing a click, a mean girl thing, and it involves people on the board of meeting. Mayor and Alderman. And our town administrator, and we are absolutely sick of it.
Yeah, let me ask you a question.
So, I'm sorry, you said she's making, what, over $200,000 as the town administrator? Our town administrator's published salary is $217,000 on top of the $450 a month car stipend she gets. that for the past 58 pay cycles was doubled. And now she got a $14,000 interest-free loan that she's now paying back at $200 a pay cycle. This is insane.
According to, and again, these are the numbers out there. And, you know, don't hold me to these. She's making more money than the mayor of Memphis, Paul Young, who is making about $210,000 a year. And of course, the President of the United States is making $400,000 a year. You wonder what in the world is she doing to earn that kind of cash in Collierville?
Well, and why does she now, why all of a sudden do we need a deputy? She has an assistant.
Now we have a deputy. We have an HR director. We're spending well over half a million dollars on the administrator staff. But she's got And I'm just wondering why. We just saw recently a PIO opinion piece came out in the Daily Breeze praising.
Molly, which is a clear and direct violation of our town's policy when talking to the media. She did not do the disclaimer that her views represented her own, and she clearly identified herself as the PIO.
So, what is the so ultimately, Jason, what's the bottom line here? What are you guys, what needs to happen? What are people calling for there in Collierville?
Well, they're calling for, I think the biggest thing people are calling for is Molly Maynard needs to go. and everybody on the board of board of aldermen that have that have had this issue. that are are pushing for our fire chief to be fired. They need to go as well. And that's where we're that's going to be the biggest thing on the ballot coming up in November for us during the midterms.
There's the board of mayor in Alderman. There's three seats open. I'm running for Seat One, and there's a reason because this board, the people of Collierville, are fed up. Yeah, this is, it is not a good situation. You guys are getting a black eye.
I mean, just set aside everything else. And you're right, this sounds like mean girls, is what you're, I think that's a great way to frame it. But beyond that, I mean, the black eye you guys are getting, people are laughing. I mean, Collierville is becoming a laughing stock because of the ineptness of the board of mayor and aldermen and what's happening there with the town administrator. Yeah, we disrespected a man with nearly 50 years of fire service who.
Four years ago, when he was unanimously selected for the job, he was called one of the most inspirational and respected leaders in the entire state for fire services. And now we're paying him a year's salary to stay home. And then we're going to pay another person.
So we're going to pay over $320,000 this year for a fire chief. That's nuts. Jay, let me ask you: is this true? We had heard that the fire chief, all of this started because the fire chief did not want to embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion policies. Is that accurate?
Now, it's something that we've all heard. And when you hear it enough times, there's got to be some truth to that. Um you know, we've also heard that People on the board of mayor and aldermen wanted somebody else in that position.
So Who knows? You know, we're going to get to the bottom of it. We're going to We are getting these things and we are publishing them and we're posting them. We've got people doing it every single day. We're going to find emails.
We're going to find text messages. We're going to find meaty notes that are public records that they don't realize it. And we are going to publish these things until the full truth comes out.

So, what are you guys advising the Bluff City on?
So we are a comprehensive financial planning firm. Obviously, that's what my background is. We have decades of experience there. It's me and two other guys, Shirag Shohan and Ben Steele. You know, Schrog graduated from Rhodes College, so he's a local guy.

Is it through this carrier?
Is it this mutual fund? Is it this ETF?

I'm curious, you know, the folks that are coming to you guys, what are the big issues that you are seeing right now? You know, the interest rates is the biggest topic of conversation these days: is like, how does this affect me? And when we think about like bond portfolios, interest rates have a direct reflect on those.
So when those retirees get into, you know, are closer to retirement. One of the things that we typically do is we scale back risk.
So we go less of the equity stock positions and more towards fixed income bonds. And so the topics of conversations right now is really Around what happened at the symposium in Jackson Hole and and what Kevin Wars, you know. elated to is is the inflation is still sticky. And that the interest rates, we're in an environment where we may have to raise the rates. We may keep them stable.
So, the uncertainty there is what we've been talking a lot about these days. I know there's been a lot of talk nationally about issues like affordability, young people, trying to figure out how you get that first home. How do you guys walk people and counsel people through those big life decisions financially?
Well, you know, we try to just have a conversation, a realistic conversation, and get them to a point of like, okay, we have a really bad tendency in today's age to want and want it now and instantaneous gratification.
So, we literally get back to a humble conversation of, let's see if all the foundation of what you're trying to do is in place first.
So, like cash reserves. We don't want you over-leveraging yourself.
So, having those conversations, especially with the younger crowd, it's an educational opportunity for them to say, Okay, I will buy that house one day, but maybe not today. Maybe I need to stack my cash up first. And then, whenever I do get to a position where I can buy a home, then the interest rates may have changed. You know, they may be lower.
So, it may be a better opportunity for a younger person to buy a house and not get into a very expensive mortgage at a high interest rate. You know, I hear this from a lot of people my own age, and I'm like, how are you retired?
You know, I've still got a good 20 years, but a lot of people are looking at doing early retirement. What are some of the things that people who are looking to retire need to start doing now? You know, I would I would literally Just come have a conversation. What we do is we do comprehensive planning, so we have a software that. gets to run a thousand trials.
We call it a Monte Carlo scenario.
So it runs bull market scenarios, bear market scenarios, high inflation, stagflation. And why that's a good thing if you're planning for retirement is that we call this a stress test. We can see what kind of assets do you have, and if we challenge it with these different scenarios, do you still run a high probability of success?
So, a lot of times, what we see is just getting that score and knowing where you sit today provides a lot of mental clarity and gives you more confidence to feel like I'm ready to do this, or I need to probably work a little bit longer just to get myself in a better position. But at least you know where you're starting from to know where you want to go. Let's say, you know, some I mean, what age do you start like planning for retirement? The sooner the better. You know, I would always say that time value of money is one of the most important aspects of financial planning, and that's why it's important for compound interest to work over the long term.
But if you're somebody who is 55 and you're thinking age 65 retirement is what I would like to do, that gives you a 10-year runway to really get things in order if you're playing catch-up and we need to do some extra contributions. which through the catch-up contribution you can do that.
So about a 10-year window from when you want to retire, it's really good to sit down and start planning.
So really, any financial questions that people have, they can give you a call and you'll take them through the process. That's absolutely correct. I mean, and our team is great. We've got an admin who, her name is Sandra Purdum. She's been in the business.
She was previously licensed. And she does a great job of getting everybody scheduled, getting them in, introducing all the team members. And yeah, the playbook is wide open. There's not a situation out there that we can't have. See, I love this.
And I say get them as young as you possibly can. You're 16 years old. You've got your own little lawnmowing business. Man, start putting some of that money away. You know, you don't have to put all of it away.
You don't want to get the video games and whatnot. I'm a big believer in pay yourself first. You know, before you go and pay any bills, take 10% of what you made and put it in a piggy bank. I love that. It's great advice.

Now they're starting Lots of traffic goes by here. Most mornings and afternoons, if the weather isn't bad, you'll find John wading away rush hour stress and frustration. I think it's nice. His reason is simple and pure. It's wild and a wave is contagious.
John caught the hello habit during 31 years as a railroad engineer. Everybody waved to the train crew and I'd wave back.
Now he's got the fastest wave in the South. Wow. All right.
Anybody remember John E. Martin? He was known back in the 1980s and 90s as the waving man of Memphis, and he was. He was like a local celebrity. Mr.
Martin would stand close to what, East High School, and he would just smile and wave at Bodorist. I mean, it was something very simple. And he became so popular that David Letterman actually invited Mr. Martin onto the late night with David Letterman show. He was, that was like, what, 1989?
I think Billy Crystal. It was Johnny Martin and Billy Crystal. And Mr. Martin said. A smile and a wave are contagious.
So, wow, what a great. I mean, again, just going back and remembering how great things used to be in Memphis. Maybe we need more people waving on the signs of the roads. Not waving guns, but just. Saying, howdy do, Memphis.
I don't know. Anyway, Mr. Martin, he passed away in 2001. He was 95 years old, but he was known to the rest of the nation as the waving man. Oh, he also had his dog out there, a little dog named Tiger.
So, well, well done. All right.
