I'm Todd Starnes, along with Helen Hazard. Great to have you guys with us today as we get back to it in the mornings here on the Mighty 990. Look, look, we heard, we heard from you guys, and David Weimer, we have to give credit where credit is due. And David Weimer over at Weimer's Jewelers, he was like, Starnes, my mornings are not the same.
So we've got to make sure that you are back on the air.
So, David, this is for you. And we want to say hello to all of our great friends across the Mid-South. Those of you watching us on our social media platforms, welcome as well. It is going to be a hot one today. And KYM's chief meteorologist, Laura Huckavey, is going to be along in just a little while with that complete forecast.
Let me just say, 78 degrees right now. It is already humid outside. And every single day this week, we are stepping up one degree to 100. But it doesn't matter because today is 9.01. Day in the Mid-South, a lot of celebrations going on, and we're going to get to a lot of those celebrations and share with you some of the ways that you can celebrate the good side of what's happening here in the Mid-South.
We have some great guests coming up this morning, including Harold Grader from AutoZone Liberty Bowl. Harold was part of the delegation that went down to watch the Memphis Tigers win that extraordinary game in Vegas.
So, looking forward to talking to Harold also. We've got a big game coming up Saturday, and this is the very first game in the newly renovated Liberty Bowl.
So, we're going to get some insight from Harold. Also, this is a great story. Jordan Mitchell Beatty, who runs a landscaping and lawn care service, they're doing some good deeds across the Mid-South and getting a lot of attention on social media.
So, we're going to be talking to Jordan as well. And Steve Gill is here also, Steve Publisher of TriStar Daily, which covers Tennessee politics. And, of course, we are right smack in the middle. Of, well, Tennessee politics. The starting point today, though, involves a story that impacts a lot of you.
Many of you who go shopping, many of you who use local businesses and services.
Well, a group of 50 businesses announced, had a big press conference and announced. They will not be serving any member of law enforcement or the Memphis Safe Task Force.
Now this is all organized by the Free the 901, which is a far left anti-cop, pro criminal group. And they held a big press conference. And 50 of these businesses say: if you're in law enforcement and you come in and you want flowers, well, we're not going to serve you flowers. We're not going to sell you a flower. If you come in and you want a pizza, we're not going to serve you a pizza.
So, this rule impacts law enforcement as well as the Memphis Safe Task Force. And they're making a lot of headlines. One of the. And by the way, we're posting a list of all 50 businesses on kwamradio.com.
Now, here's the thing: one of the business owners. She's the owner of a flower shop in Cooper Young, which, by the way, has experienced a massive uptick in crime. She says that what we need in Memphis is more social services and we need less. Police officers on the street.
So, first of all, we're not publishing, we're not like doxing these people. They've already put all their information out there. But it seems to me an enterprising criminal would just go to the website, scroll down, and they would see all of the places where cops will not be. And it seems to me all of these businesses just became, I don't know, giant targets. That's what it certainly looks like for me.

I don't know. I can barely get through the menu at Taco Bell. Anyway, some Mexican bar. The feds raided this bar, and now the left is going nuts. We understand they have either, and we're still waiting on the official press release, so these numbers may change, but as many as 200 people may have been detained.
It was part of some sort of a gambling operation, a lot of illegal stuff going on at this bar, and all of these people were detained.
Now, Fox, you know, first of all, I want to play this cut 17, please. Imagine going out for a fun Saturday night with your friends, your family, your community, and then more than a hundred of you being kidnapped and arrested by ICE, thrown into buses, and shipped off to detention facilities, God knows where. Because that's exactly what happened in Memphis this weekend. And this is exactly what happens when Republicans are in power and state and local governments and totally bend the knee to Donald Trump. The National Guard is still deployed in Memphis.
The Memphis Unsafe Task Force is still deployed, harassing migrant communities across the city. When I was out in Memphis this weekend, I was told how ICE is deliberately targeting Latino communities. One man was pulled over for just having two dark-tinted windows. He didn't have the proper paperwork and he was deported because of his window tint. These are your neighbors, your co-workers, their local business owners, and they are being kidnapped and sent to concentration camps.
In July alone, ICE kidnapped 50,000 people. And I don't know about you, but my groceries aren't any cheaper. Care isn't any cheaper. My rent hasn't gone down. These are people that were just trying to go out and enjoy their Saturday night.
And now, this administration and the Memphis City government has told them they're not even safe to do that.
Okay.
Well, there you go. This is one of the woke Karens that's out there. And you see them on the sidewalks, the overpass there. What is it? Shady Grove.
A lot of these folks are. And again, we don't judge here on the Mighty 990. We just observe. And our observations are most of these women are morbidly obese. And they have the nose rings and the magenta hair.
And they reek of patchouli oil. I mean, those are just observations. And the reality is these women, and I wrote about this in my new book, The Golden Age, these women are very unhappy because many of them could not find a husband. And so, therefore, they're taking out their rage on the rest of us, and it is very unfortunate. But here's the reality: there are no concentration camps.
Seriously, where are the concentration camps that she's referring to? Nobody is being sent to gas chambers here in Memphis, Tennessee. That is not happening anywhere in the mid-south. But the reality is, if you are an illegal alien and you know you're here illegally, you've done nothing about it, then you have to go back to where you came from. And there was a Fox 13 story, and Fox 13 is nowhere near like Fox News Channel, right?
They are Fox 13. They they hired leftists and they called it a dark day. A dark day in the mid south. And they interviewed people who like, who said, oh my gosh, the children, these kids have no parents. And what are the children going to do?
Well, my question is: what were the parents doing at a bar and nightclub at 1 a.m.? You leave the kids at home, mom and dad should have been at home, and maybe they'd still be in the country illegally, but at least they'd still be here.
So, anyway, we're going to be taking your calls on that. Do you think the Memphis Safe Task Force is doing the right thing by rounding up all of the illegals here in the Mid-South? Well, welcome back to morning. And you can't do this with just community coffee. You got to throw in a Gibson's donut or two.
Well, I got to cut back on the donuts. At least that's the official line that I have to say on air. Blick the glaze off it and pretend you didn't eat it. No, my cardiologist down at Stern listens, so I've got to be careful what I say here on the show. You know, Steve, we've been, I don't know if you heard the big news coming out of Memphis, two big stories.
As many as 200 illegals, or at least suspected illegals, detained by ICE at a bar. And people are up in arms around here. And they're saying that what Memphis needs is more social services and not law enforcement. What say you?
Well, I think you have to look at the cost of those illegal in terms of what it's costing Memphians for their car insurance because when those people run into you with their car, they don't have insurance, so your insurance is going to pay, which drives up rates. They're also taking jobs from Memphians who could be working those jobs. They're using health care. Their kids, if they have kids, are using education services. The cost.
Needs to be calculated in terms of the housing that they're using, drives up rent rates, drives up housing rates.
So instead of you whining about them being caught Being here illegally, working here illegally, probably using false ID illegally. Let's focus on the cost to people in Memphis and across the country that illegals are putting into our wallets and taking away. Steve, I want to bring into the conversation James listening to us in East Memphis. He wants to weigh in on this crackdown on illegals. James, you're on the air with Steve Gill.
Hey, how are you? Good, thank you for asking. I agree. Um completely with what Steve just said. Yeah, I'm I agree with that.
And I don't see what the uproar is about. The uh You know, the uh operation the other night.
Well, yeah, I mean, look, it was. I can't hear anything. Yeah, it was one o'clock. No, we were listening to you. That's why.
No, it was one o'clock in the morning. Those folks should have been in bed with their kids at home. Yeah, yeah. That's what I don't understand. And I don't understand what the uproar was about.
I mean, I used to live in the Burkhlare area, you know, a while back around two thousand Nine, and I mean, there were some stores over there. I mean, it's kind of turned into a little Tijuana. is what they call it now. Um And you couldn't go to his store without If you didn't speak Spanish, you couldn't get anything done.
Well, James, it's a great point you raised. And our time is limited here, but I think we got the gist of what you were saying. And thank you for calling in. But again, Steve, this goes back, and you heard Congressman David Kostoff is running ads on K-Wham Touting, you know, the Memphis Safe Task Force. I wonder: is this going to be a big issue in the gubernatorial campaign moving forward?
You know, I'm not sure because it's really a federal issue. And again, that's why you have the federal agents, that's why you have ICE involved in this. I mean, the state has very limited capacity to do anything.
So I think that it's an issue because people do see the cost. And again, it's like the old bank robber Willie Sutton used to say when asked why did he rob banks? He said that's where the money is.
Well, apparently, if you go to the bars where the illegals hang out at one o'clock in the morning, they're using the right bait. You're going to catch your limit. There you go. Steve, I want to switch gears here. You took our local Republicans to task the other day on TriStar Daily.
You pointed out, and this was during the big, severe storm where power was knocked out to what, 140,000 customers. Everybody was in the dark. People were sweltering. The Democrat running for governor, Jerry Green, announced that she was opening up her campaign headquarters so that citizens could come in, get some air conditioning, recharge their devices, and really just. It was not political.
It was just come and let us help you. The same day she put out that announcement, the local Republican said, Yeah, our office is closed until after Labor Day, and you have a problem with that. Absolutely. And one of the things that we hear so much about politics is: you know, money matters. Speed and agility matter as well.
And when you have an opportunity, take advantage of it. And Jerry Greene did a great job. The Democrats did a great job of saying, Hey, here's something that can actually help people, which politicians and policies are supposed to do in the long run. And they acted on it. And as you point out, meanwhile, the Republicans in Shelby County are closing the office until I think September 8th.
And then there were some people disputing it, saying, Oh, that's not true. It's like, well, they posted it, they made the claim they were doing it. The biggest problem facing Republicans, I think, in this midterm election is lethargy, is lack of excitement. When Donald Trump is not on the ballot, MAGA voters, Trump voters tend to stay home. And if they stay home, Democrats are going to make gains in the House and in the Senate and in State House and State Senate and maybe even governors' races.
So this is the time to have all hands on deck, to be hitting like a well-oiled machine, not lounging back and saying, well, we'll get to it in a week or so. We've got about 60 seconds here, Steve. And I think a lot of folks in the Memphis area are a little surprised because there is a downside to the redistricting. And the reality is, yeah, Memphis is getting three members of Congress, but they're not going to be here. They're focusing on where the big, big votes are, which is over in Williamson County and other parts of the district.
How do you see those races playing out? You think we're going to sweep? Republicans are going to sweep? I think the numbers are there. These districts were drawn with the Republican advantages in all the new districts.
But again, it turns out. To turnout, who goes and votes? If you can have an opinion, but if you don't actually, as you talk, get off your blessed assurance, we've got to get the churches, the Christian voters, to leave the pews, get to the polls. The Democrats are doing that. They're activating their voters in the black churches.
And you've got white pastors who are so afraid to mention politics from the pulpit that they let. The issues that matter, whether it's abortion, whether it's who's going to be on the Supreme Court, the issues that matter, they leave aside because they're so afraid of the IRS. They can say, go vote. Even if they don't say go vote for a particular person, they can say go vote the issues that matter to you, pray discern and vote. And they can do that from the pulpit, but too many preachers are too afraid to do that.

The morning's at 11. Absolutely. Oh, my gosh. So maybe we should have a larger celebration for Dave Brown. You know, they got the night on one day and Dave Brown.
We can never have too much celebration of Dave Brown. One of them. He's the finest gentleman I've ever known. And again, obviously a legend in broadcasting here in Memphis and the Mid-South. I got to meet him.
He came to K-Wham, I think, last year, year before last, and just a very gracious man and just a lot of fun. He was here, believe it or not, with Jerry the King Lawler, who used to work at K-Wham until. Until he got fired, but that was back when he was a teenager. Many moons ago. Many moons ago.
But he was, but I was more concerned about Jerry the King. I'm like, all right, don't take it out on me, pal. No body slams or anything like that.
So, so, look, Harold, man, this is an exciting time for sports in the Mid-South. And I was following your social media feed.
So, you went to Vegas. And you made it to the game. What was that like? It looks like we had some pretty good crowd there. You know, Tiger fans are really excited about the new coach, Charles Huff.
The renovations to Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. They have a vision for the future about possibly moving to a Power Four conference.
So a lot of excitement, a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of energy around this program. And I got to tell you, I've known Coach Huff for a few years, and to see him on the sidelines, To hear his post-game comments after the win, see the video from the locker room of the celebration.
So many positive things around this Tiger football team. And again, here on 9-on-1 Day, another thing for us to celebrate. I want to play some of that audio you just talked about. This is Coach Huff explaining what they do there at the University of Memphis. Cut 16, please.
We don't play music at practice.
So, if you want music, you're not going to play for me.
So, we get the kids who are worried about football and creating value for themselves. We don't do ice cream trucks. We don't do fun things. You know what's fun? That locker room right now is fun.
You know what's fun? When these guys graduate and they get to walk across the state, that's fun.
So, no, we're not the, and what I'm not saying, I'm not saying that other programs that do that are not right. That's great. We have an opportunity for the next six months for some of these kids to change their life forever.
So, it is our job as coaches, adults, administrators, supporters to do everything we can. We spent a week and a half with Dr. Sherry Mai teaching these guys how to sleep. Why? 'Cause this trip was important.
So she taught us how to sleep. She taught us the value of sleep. She taught us what to do Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday coming up. Guys on the plane with eye masks, guys on the plane with 30-minute timers on. Last night were staying up 30 minutes later.
Because we're trying to do everything we can at the University of Memphis to help these guys be successful in life. And if that means we had to bring in a sleep doctor to help them sleep a little better because we were playing, it's. It's one o'clock back home. Right, so if we had to do something to that minute of a detail to help these guys, it's what we have to do. And I think once they get here and they feel that love, I think they really embrace it.
I will say I should have gone to the sleep doctor class because I didn't make it past the second quarter. That was a long night for a lot of folks here in the 901. It was obviously a two-hour time difference between here and Vegas. But again, so proud of the way this football team performed in the opener. No, going into the game, you know, Coach Huff and that coaching staff, they weren't.
Saying a whole lot about the roster, certainly about the quarterback position.
So we really didn't know. He said in his post-game, and I did attend his post-game press conference, he said, no, I had. Speaking to the media, he said, I'd given you guys a nugget of information here and there. If you hadn't put it together, I'd kind of given you some indication as to what we were going to look like. But.
Defense, defense, defense was the carry the day ultimately for the Tigers Saturday night in Vegas. The quarterback, Marcus Stokes, transferred from West Georgia. Ultimately played well. Again, a lot of enthusiasm, maybe a thousand or so, folks, from Memphis. That's great.
Absolutely. You know, there's not a whole lot of airlift from Memphis to Vegas.
So to get there was quite an accomplishment anyway. But again, a lot of excitement and a lot to build on there as they come home for the home opener and what is really Todd a new Simmons Bank Liberty. And I want to get to that in just a minute. By the way, the big news, Coach Huff being named Bear Bryant National Coach of the Week. Yes.
That news came out late yesterday.
So that's a huge thing to celebrate as well. The coach is maybe just a few years younger than you and me, Harold. We got to talk to him about these chest bumps. He cannot be doing that. We need the coach in good, healthy working conditions.
He took a little tumble there. We hit the celebration. We don't need the coach going on the injury list after just one game. Exactly. We're honored to have Harold Grader with us.
And Harold. People are, first of all, we've got to pack out the stadium on Saturday. I mean, that's just, there's no doubt we've got to pack it out. And what are people going to see? Because you've been there.
You've seen it. Sure have. And I believe there are going to be opportunities this week. Again, not to speak for the university, but Coach Huff's radio show is going to be done from the stadium. And I think they're opening things up.
On some limited basis for folks to come out and see the stadium. The renovations to the stadium are fabulous. Todd, it's the closest thing to a new stadium, as you and I will see in our lifetimes here. You know, a $225 million project. Renovated the west side of the state and the old press box side for all of us who have been around for years.
Two levels of suites, two levels of club seating. That's just the start. A new LED lighting system where you can do the light shows, new sound system, new uh video boards, ribbon boards. Uh they they've taken all the seats out in the bowl of the stadium. Sealed up all the leaks, pressure-washed it.
It looks brand new. And it's really exciting to see. And again, the stadium needed that love and care. And all of us who are users and tenants of the stadium, like us at the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, we're going to benefit from that. But again, it's just another step of.
How important this university is, this athletic department is to the city and Taking a step to where they want to go, which ultimately is to a Power 4 conference. But it's exciting, and folks need to come out and see it. It's going to be beautiful, and I think it's going to be a crown jewel. I'm really excited to see what's going to happen with the Liberty Bowl. And again, you guys are going to be on show for the entire nation.
And what a great thing for people to, you know, they're going to be able to see that, the beautiful new stadium. Absolutely. You know, we're only in week one of the regular season, but our game, the 68th Autos on Liberty Ball, is it'll be here before we know it, January 2nd. You know, the weeks of college football, they fly by. Zoom.
Which is, I think, part of because we're all passionate about the game of college football.
So we spend half the week talking about the game we just played and the back of the week talking about the game coming up. But a lot of things to be positive and excited about. As far as Saturday's game with Arkansas State, you mentioned about packing out the stadium. You know, that was one of the things Coach Huff mentioned in his post-game press conference, calling out the fans to say, hey, we need you. We want you.
Come out, celebrate the win in Vegas. And support this football team. Because, from what we've seen, after obviously the sample is a small one, just one, but it was a lot of excitement with that win in Vegas. And Coach is calling you out to come support his football team. And if you have the time and the wherewithal, I would encourage you to do that.
And again, come celebrate Memphis. Come check out the new stadium. And again, a lot to be excited about around this football team. And hearing those comments from Coach. Todd, I don't know if you've had a chance to beat Charles, but he coached on the staff at Alabama with Coach Sabin.
And there's definitely some Sabin in him. And listening to his post-game press conference, The word process was mentioned two or three, maybe four or five times. And that's one of the key phrases that Coach Sabin always talked about was the process and the organization. Not the team, but he called it an organization. And Coach Huff certainly was influenced by Coach Sabin.

We're working to get in touch with Mr. Beatty. He may be out mowing grass, but doing some great deeds, mowing the lawns of folks that maybe they don't have a lawnmower, maybe they don't have the money to pay somebody.
So doing some good deeds, and we certainly appreciate and salute the great work of those folks. You know, I've been out on the road quite a bit on the weekends. So plenty of places for you to get a copy of The Golden Age. This past Sunday, I was honored to speak at. Franklin Road Baptist Church. That's in Murfreesboro. And one of the one of the guys that I interviewed for the book, he's a history teacher there at their Christian School.
And we had a great panel discussion. Let's listen to cut number seven. What are the areas, or what are some of the stories that you've seen that are giving you hope for the future of America? I think what's most hopeful for me is in knowing how God's word ends, the prophecies of how this world's going to come to an end. We know that Jesus Christ wins.
And no matter what's going on in this world, no matter what we see on the news or going over in the Middle East or what's going on, we know that Jesus Christ ultimately is our hope because he's going to win it all in the end.
So I think that's the number one place we put our hope, but in a more practical way. I read a stat the other day that said that 18 of young men 18 to 29 years old, 42% say that religion is of very high importance to them. That's a 15% jump from five years ago.
So that's 15% more young men. I'm like right in the middle of that age group that say that religion is very important to them. That's almost half of all 18 to 29 year olds in America. And that's hopeful for me because young men are going to be the ones that lead our church. That are going to lead our government and that hopefully are going to lead our families back in a way in a Christ-honoring and loving way.
Well said. And again, I think this is one of the reasons why we as a church need to be prepared for those folks. You know, having strong youth ministries and youth programs, having men's ministries, you know, having those, you know, like for example, some of the historic scouting organizations have gone left.
So looking for those opportunities. Trail Life USA is something that we're very involved in. American Heritage Girls for the young ladies, the Girl Scouts have embraced Islam now. We have a story up on our website about that. I do have hope, and I shared this this morning, Pastor, that our hope can't be in a political party.
It just cannot be.
So we used to sing that song: My Hope is Built on Nothing Less Than Jesus' Blood and Righteousness. Ultimately, as I write in the golden age, it's not about prosperity. It's not about affordability. The golden age, in my estimation, is about restoring the foundational truths that made America great. And John.

They are anti-cop, they are pro-criminal, and that's pretty much it.
So they are now protesting and they are targeting businesses That supports law enforcement. They are also announcing, and they have released a list of businesses that refuse to do service with police officers and members of the Memphis Safe Task Force.
So we have that entire list over on our website, kwamradio.com. I would encourage you to go to the website. You'll be able to check out the list and you'll be able to see, first of all, what businesses you need to support, and also what businesses you just need to be aware of. What businesses don't want any support from law enforcement or their families. And I think that's a pretty sad thing that they're doing, but that's just the reality of where we are.
