This is the Drive with Josh Graham podcast for internet sensations, guys. Tune into The Drive weekday afternoons, 3 to 7 on WSJS. Welcome to a Wednesday drive. It is WSJS, News Talk Sports for the Triad, where we are still mourning the loss of former App State coach Sean Clark this week. to help us remember who Sean was.

His former Mountaineer teammate and coaching boss Scott Satterfield will join us. Fifteen minutes. from now.

now the head man at Cincinnati. But before we get to Scott, With North Carolina on its bye week, you might think we'd get a break from Bill Belichick and the news and drama from Chapel Hill. Us weekly. had other ideas. The cover photo Yeah.

Out for the magazine. Who is the real? Jordan Hudson. The question that is asked. Also It says in the little small print.

In the top right corner. of the magazine shot. that Jordan Hudson is the most disgust woman In sports. Caitlin Clark might have other ideas. Just quick side Note there.

Unfortunately. The takeaway from this feature story is that Jordan Hudson is not going to remain in the background. As always. She still believes she's the main character. And it's a shame too because She's been doing so well recently.

And we had. Defended. We had defended Jordan Hudson. After the chaotic spring where She seemed to be dictating things on the field at a practice while wearing heels and wielding microphones and pointing people around. To disrupting the CBS interview, to nuking the hard knocks, to messaging PR staffers behind the scenes.

After all of that. Her summer was pretty quiet. It seemed that North Carolina Put Jordan Hudson. in her place. We hadn't seen over the last few months any crazy social media posts.

She wasn't in any more commercials. It finally looked as if this bizarre relationship. was going to resemble something Normal. But again, that changed today. Jordan.

And Bill. On the cover of the magazine. To be fair, Neither her nor Bill were quoted in the story. And The cover shot was From their appearance. At NFL Honors way back in February.

So Anybody who thinks that Bill is taking time away from the Tar Heels to speak to us weekly or to do a cover shoot or to do any type of photo shoot during the football season. That's misguided.

However, It is blatantly obvious. that Jordan was the driving force. behind this article. Any time, Will. The Involved Parties in a Story.

Are not quoted in the story. You need to ask yourself the question. Who does the story most benefit? And odds are, whoever the story most benefits, is the person that is involved. behind the scenes.

Jordan Hudson, you don't think? Wanted a cover shot? On a magazine. The 24-year-old X runway model, her. Come on now.

What are we talking about here? Again. Read the story. If you do. You won't find one piece of criticism of Jordan Hudson.

Why? Because all of this likely is coming from Jordan Hudson. Everything. was positioned from her vantage point. Setting her up not to be an abnormal feature.

An opportunist not setting herself up to be. Anything other than somebody Who loves Bill Belichick and good at PR. And things that You might roll your eyes at. How about we just give you an example rather than opine here? Here's an excerpt from the story.

We'll put it up for those watching. on the video rather than Just listening. An insider Who spent time with the couple? That's the way that it's framed. says Belichick values Hudson's quote.

Hands-on presents. in his life. Quote. I've seen her. do very normal everyday things for him and i think He appreciates that she takes care of him.

I would say that his previous partners, while very nice and loving, We're not as hands-on. Because they were accustomed to having staff or people helping them. And Jordan doesn't live that way, explains the insider. He's very happy, he's clearly. Very proud to be in a relationship with Jordan.

And I think he really likes the companionship. You hear that? Bill Belichick, 73. What he loves about Jordan is her hands-on approach. And he's so proud.

To be in a relationship with Jordan Hudson. There you go, says that insider.

Now Okay, you might be thinking. Why do we care? The details about her future plans. are what's most alarming here. Remember, the sticking point in the hard knocks deal was her involvement, and that led to NFL Films saying no, thank you.

HBO saying no thank you.

Well, Us Weekly casually dropped in the story. That Quote. Jordan or Hudson will be involved in the Hulu docuseries. Close quote. that North Carolina.

Reached an agreement for in the offseason. What HBO didn't give her? Apparently Hulu did. Which brings us to The second and last excerpt that we have from this story. In April, Hudson and Belichick filed trademarks, filed Trademarks to some of his catchphrases.

These applications were recently denied. And in August, She also filed for the trademark gold digger. Making it clear, she's in on the choke. or at least ready to profit from it. Quote I believe you're going to see.

Jordan Hudson, the book. Jordan Hutz in the movie Jordan Hudson the brand, Jordan Hudson the perfume. Says Freeman, who was a f a friend. Adding that this former salon employee had serious staying power. Quote: You either have star quality or you don't.

And I believe Jordan Hudson has star quality. Close quote. You hear that? Jordan Hutz in the movie, Will. Jordan Hudson.

The Bran, Jordan Hudson, the perfume, Jordan Hudson, the book. She's not remaining in the background. She as always, has viewed herself. Yeah. The main character and that.

is not good. For North Carolina. And It's not good. for the folks that feel that. Maybe.

North Carolina is being taken advantage of a bit. by Bill Belichick and Jordan Hudson. On exit Josh Graham showing at WSJS Radio, that's where we're streaming video in addition to YouTube and Twitch. Will Dalton, the executive producer of this show. You shake your head at me a bit.

Are you... Do you not see that this is Uh A news story? I mean You don't seem to care. I don't. Why?

I just don't think it matters. I don't think it's important. That Well, you seem to acknowledge that it's okay. That it's good that she's In the background. We talked about that.

We defended her for that. This is the opposite of being in the background. Specifically telling people, like, just leave her alone. Right. But now.

This story. You don't If she's trying to turn her involvement. With UNC football into a perfume, a brand, a TV show, and a book that's not being in the background. And that's a problem. Yeah, take advantage of the opportunity, I guess, if you're Jordan.

Oh, my goodness.

Okay, fine. Scott Satterfield, he'll join us. And just few minutes Move it takes so long. The Carolina Panthers face the New England Patriots this week. And the Patriots have a staff.

And the Patriots have a roster. That will make you. Feel something. Obviously. Their quarterback.

Is Charlotte native and Carhill Legend Drake Bay. It's a good thing that New England Has Drake May now? And Drake Mays not in college. Today. because they wouldn't be allowed to scout them.

Uh Drake May's alma mater because Bill Belichick doesn't allow New England staffers to Scout their games. as of right now. Drake is the only former Tower Heel on the roster, Mac Hollands. is there too. He already is a touchdown catch this year.

But we're mainly focused on The Panthers two previous offensive coordinators before Brad Idzik Or on New England staff. That would be our old friends. Ben McAdoo and Thomas Brown. WD, that gives us a chance to revisit our vault. That's true.

Well played. How much McAdoo and Thomas Brown do you have to play for us right now? I mean, I have like. I have about five Ben McAdoo clips. Just keep hitting them.

Okay, we can do that. Let's empty the clay. Let's make sure we take our patients' pills each week. Got to. Yeah, I gotta do that.

And then if there's one thing we know. I mean, it's like putting ten pounds of you know what in a five pound bag. This man has wisdom for days. Did you know that he's a defensive analyst for New England? That's his role.

Don't work that way. Senior defensive analyst. Former O. C. of the Panthers Ben McAdoo.

Good morning. How can I help you? That's how we opened a press conference one day. Miss this man. Yeah.

How deep is the reservoir for Thomas Brown? This one was a little tougher, but we got a few clips here. Warriors mean a number of different things. Here's what it does mean: you go running high.

Okay. Yeah. Where's the greatest hit? You like that? I got too much.

Yeah. I don't miss these people. I think I have a loaded question. Yeah. Then of course, there is New England head coach Mike Rabel.

The man who caught a touchdown. In The Patriots win over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 38. Kind of crazy to think that. He was a player then and uh the The coach that he was playing for is now the head coach of The North Carolina Tar Heels. Make sure you could, you're chiming in on our feed on YouTube, seeing a lot of people chiming in.

Eagles Rule says that Jordan Hudson's trying to be a Kardashian. Could see that. Mm-hmm. Jay Davis, all couples in spotlight do this. Swift and Kelsey, for example.

While Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey are both supremely talented people. Jordan Hudson isn't. Jordan Hudson's hot. Yeah. She's a model.

Also, why I can understand why Bill is into this type of thing. That's fine, but. The stuff where we're having to read the fluff piece, where it's like, you know what? You know why Bill likes Jordan Hudson? Her hands-on approach.

Her hands-on approach and her. Acumen and oh, it's it's all yes, it's this 24-year-old in past relationships. In past relationships, oh, they might have been loving and caring, but they're not as independent as Jordan Hudson is. That's that's what Bill. Likes.

what we're supposed to believe. Got it. to reflect on the life of Sean Clark. Cincinnati coach and app state legend Scott Satterfield. Joins our show.

Next on the drive. I'm sorry, I'm a little winded. A lot of us talk! Wrong. This is the drive with Josh Graham.

I wish it were under better circumstances that we welcome an old friend back on in the triad. It's Cincinnati head coach Scott Satterfield kind enough to share some memories about his former App State teammate, his former App State assistant, Sean Clark, who we lost at the start of the week. Scott, let's start with Sean Clark, the teammate. You were a few years older than him. You overlapped a couple years in Boone.

What do you remember your first impressions of this incoming freshman from West by God Virginia being? Yeah. Yeah, I think, you know, First of all, I remember him coming from Fork Union, you know, and that's where Dexter Coakley had played as well. with a prep school there in Virginia where, you know, a bunch of players used to come out of there and um You know, Sean comes in and as a highly rated offensive lineman, and we thought we got as a really good player. Obviously, you don't know until they get in there.

You know, once he started getting in, he got started getting some reps and coach Searles. who's the O-line coach at University of Georgia right now with our offensive line coach. And You know, started coaching him up. And next thing you know, he's in our starting lineup as a freshman. I mean, you know, shoot, ended up being a really great player for us.

Keeping it with football for a moment, fast-forwarding to when you hired him a couple decades later at App State. At this point, Sean had never been anything more than an offensive line coach. And he both privately and publicly has said to us that. He gives you a lot of credit for giving him a chance to Work with you as an offensive coordinator because we know in this business, being an OC provides a clearer path to becoming a head coach, which he eventually became. What do you what did you see in Sean Clark?

Then nearly about 10 years ago. Yeah. Number one, I mean, just he was great with our players. You know, as soon as he came in, you know, and And Sean had had some good experience before I hired him. He'd been at Purdue, he'd been at Eastern Kentucky and in Purdue with Danny Hope.

You know, and Danny Hope was a really good offensive line guy that knew how to coach that position well, and Sean came in and. You know, I thought Excellent with the players, um, and really just messed and jailed right away with those guys. Um and I and I thought He got the most out of them. And I think anytime as you look at a coach, if you can. you get the trust of your players, you're gonna get the most out of 'em and and he very quickly got the trust of the players.

And he had some great ideas. I mean, it was some things that we were already doing, but also he comes in and. you know, not overbearing it by any means, but you know, would offer suggestions here and there, which I thought was very helpful. And then A great, you know, people talk about a great teammate as a player. He was a great teammate as a coach.

I mean, he just fit right in with the staff. Got along with everybody. And it was great to work with, you know, on that level. You know, phenomenal guy to work with, very, very loyal guy as well. Loyalty is a word that in texting and calling a lot of people over the last forty-eight hours is a word that continues to come up.

When you say the word loyalty, What pops into your head. What's an example of that, Scott Satterfield? Yeah, for me, um as a you know, as a friend, number one, because I remember this vividly, you know, because obviously we went back 30 years ago, you know, and When I first got the head job at App, you know, CART was, I forget, I think it was at Purdue, but we were struggling that the first couple years. Our record was not very good, and we're headed to my second year. We're going into the Sumbelt play for the first time at that level.

We were struggling, but Sean gave me a call. He said, Hey, man, you're doing a great job. Just stick to the process. You know, you got this. And so that loyalty there, I mean, you know, it was at a time where many people, number one, is not calling you because we're not winning.

And number two, they're certainly not going to call you and encourage you. You know, they're going to, most people stay as far away as they can possibly be, but he calls out, man, you're doing a great job. Just keep doing what you're doing. Stick to your process. And then a few games later, we started winning at App and then shoot we ended up winning for the next six, seven years at App State.

But I just never forget that call. And I think a lot of times, you know, when people are down, you're having some downtime or something, then a call like that from a friend. That the friendship, the loyalty of the friendship meant so much more than the wins and losses. And so I just really appreciate that call from him. Scott Satterfield, with us here, you told us your right before your first year at Louisville, after you left App, you said that when we're not playing, Louisville's not playing, I'm going to make sure to keep an eye on those Mountaineers and I'm always going to check on my alma mater and check those that scoreboard.

But when he's the coach, when he becomes the head coach, and in 2022, he upsets Texas A ⁇ M And then he brings College Game Day to Boone the following week, your alma mater. What do you remember thinking and feeling from afar at that time? Yeah, I mean just a lot of pride, you know. and so happy for for him and and the program obviously I mean I think Sean, like I, we had a lot of blood, sweat and tears at that place as a player and then obviously continuing that as a coach. And so you're doing everything you possibly can to make that place successful, to make everybody proud.

You know, and to continue the legacy that was built there for so many years, and for him. You go down to Texas A ⁇ M, nobody's, you know, everybody's counting you out, and go down there and upset and get that great win and get a game day. You know, the whole spotlights back on the Mountaineers that state for that week. And it was incredible. And then to win that game went to Hail Mary.

Incredible. I mean, you know, so so many. Iconic moments, I think, you know, with Clark at the helm there that'll go down in the history books that are some great, great moments. You know, and those are the moments that we'll always remember, you know, about when Sean was there. you know, of the things that he did to put continue to put App State on the map.

Yeah, I you probably get still asked constantly about Michigan. I bet you there's a generation of App State fans that are going to be asking each other in 20 45. Hey, do you remember when we won at AM and then College Game Day came to town and Lee Corso put a head on? I mean, that's a legacy for Sean Clark, isn't it? Yeah, absolutely.

No question about that. You know, those moments you never forget. I mean, you know, like, you know, like the 2007 going to beat in Michigan, like you get asked about it every year. About September 1st, when it rolls around, about that game. And the years have gone on.

I mean, it's hard to believe we're at 2025 right now. but we still remember it like it was yesterday. And so those memories are Are sealed in everybody's memory bank, and the ones that were a part of App State. During that time, that man, you'll never forget it. I mean, those are iconic moments and what makes App State so special.

Getting to the personal side of this, Sean Clark. Passing away on Sunday, we're visiting with Scott Satterfield here. The last text he sent me was a couple of weeks ago where he said he was listening to the show. And typical Sean, he said, it better be a damn good show. And he's saying, hey, are you going to come down to UCF when we play North Carolina?

And um I know Sean. It was in his crawl that he lost an overtime in Chapel Hill and 63, 61 wasn't able to win that game in Boone.

So I hope There was some consciousness about what his team did to North Carolina before we got the news on Sunday. And then I look at the schedule and in a couple of weeks UCF was set to visit you guys in Cincinnati. Over the last 48 hours, how many Sean Clark Strong Clark stories have you been swapping with folks back in Boone or with people on staff? Yeah, I mean a lot of stories and just And more than anything. Just talking about the the man he was, I think, and how he treated everybody.

I mean, he Yeah, such a kind soul and so genuine and caring. And I mentioned the loyal, the very loyal. you know, he cares so much more about the person than than any other circumstances that was going on. I mean, you know, and he's got a lot of buddies that were that are in this profession. And This profession is hard.

I mean, it gets a grip on you, man. It's tough. You know, the ups and downs is so many ups and downs. And and and it's and it takes a toll on you, but He cared more about the person and I think a lot of different text threads that we have with a lot of different coaches that are out there. And it's really just talking about more about the man and how he treated people.

And I think that's a great lesson for all of us, and if anybody that's listening is. You know, life is about how you treat people and how you make other people feel. I think more so than any. Any kind of occupades that you can get, any kind of success that the world says is success. You know, it's how you treat people and how you make people feel.

And he did it as good as anybody out there. He was an incredible friend. He to your point, he cared so much about relationships. I'm wearing an Oriole shirt right now. Every time he saw the Orioles on T V, he'd shoot me a text.

He constantly was badgering us to do his sh do our show from forth in fun, his boat, before he ended up Selling it. What's a good example of Sean's thoughtfulness as a friend that you've experienced personally? Yeah, I mean, it just really just a phone call or you know, because obviously, we worked together for a few years, but but most of our time we've been we've been working at other places and It'd just be a quick phone call. Hey, man, hey, bud, what's going on? How's things going?

You know, and Yeah, and that and that just means more, I think, to me than anything. You know, just how you treated people. And I think Um the thing about it like My teammates that I had back in the 90s, and Sean was obviously one of them. We could go months without seeing each other or years even without seeing each other, and we'll pick right up where we left off. Like, we've been seeing each other every single day.

that's the special bond that all of us had that that came through that program that played Um, you know, during that time that we played, Scott Satterfield, uh, I really do appreciate you spending the time. Thank you so much for. Um You know, sharing some memories. It's so good to hear your voice back here in the triad, and best of luck with Cincinnati. Yeah, appreciate you, man.

Yo, prayers go out to Janelle and Gianna and Braxton and his family, man. But I really love love those guys. Appreciate you having me on. Always good to talk to some North Carolina people. The drive with Josh Graham, only on WSJA.

The stakes. Couldn't it be much higher? in Major League Baseball tonight. Five days left. in the regular season.

And there's a small group of games. That are Peak. Intriguing. At least for Regular season baseball. We're a week away.

From the start of the wildcard round less than a week away. Actually. Guardians Tigers. Tie the top The AL Central. Detroit once led this division by 15.5 games.

If Detroit does not win the division, In the modern ALNL era, it would be. The largest blown lead in a division race. That we've seen. Tanner Beyby is throwing for Cleveland. Against Jack Flaherty.

The Tigers. The loser of this series very well could miss the playoffs as well, by the way.

So these teams are tied in the standings. The Guardians own the tiebreaker.

So right now If the season ended today. It would be Detroit. Getting the final wildcard spot. Ahead of the Houston Astros, one game back. Because Houston lost.

against the Athletics last night. Houston has another game in Sacramento tonight. Flipping it to the National League. Speaking of wild card spots, the New York Mets. Have a one-game lead.

For the final NL wildcard spot. They Lunged ahead last night. They Beat. The Cubs at Wrigley while John Mulaney was singing The take me out to the ball game. Hanging out.

In the broadcast booth with Boog Shiambi. It was announced last night John Mulaney is going to be the first comedian to ever play Wrigley Field.

Next year, that's pretty cool. Nine to seven, the Mets beat the Cubs.

Meanwhile, the Reds who were tied for that final spot yesterday with the Mets. Lost to Pittsburgh. Lost to the pirates. Tonight If you're Cleveland or if you're Cincinnati. You got to get it going.

So you're going to throw maybe your best pitcher. They have two really, really, really strong options. Hunter Green. And Andrew Abbott. Hunter Green is throwing tonight.

against Paul Skeens. Hunter Green, Paul Skeens later tonight.

So you have that in the National League, the Mets continuing their series with the Cubs. And then in the AL East, the Toronto Blue Jays. Thank you. Was that why you were looking confused? Yeah, of course, we were going to save his hair last, you know, not that big of a deal.

Well, the other ones are more newsworthy. Noteworthy. Are you kidding? The Guardians and Tigers are playing each other. for the lead in the AL Central and one of the greatest blown leads ever.

What are you talking about? Cool. Let's get to what's happening in the ALEs. Let's do that. Let's The Blue Jays lead by just one game.

Toronto lost to Boston last night. Tonight, Max Scherzer is throwing for the Blue Jays against Boston's Ace Garrett Crochet.

Meanwhile, the Yankees, who walked off last night in order to clinch a playoff spot, They are facing the White Sox. Yet again. And they got Max Freed on the mound at home. Chalk it up. I love this.

Me too. I know what you're thinking. Oh, yeah, the Orioles are going to spoil it. Just like the Orioles last week. Oh, no, no.

Took three out of four in Baltimore. But would that really spoil things at that point, Will? It'd just be hypothetical. And Yankee fans can then say, oh, we weren't going to catch them anyway.

Now you guys are in position to catch them. And this weekend. Orioles. Yankees three-game series at the stadium. Yep.

An opportunity for Baltimore to truly Play spoiler. That's a lot more fun than me watching Orioles raise like I did last night where the Orioles won. Six to nothing. It's a lot more fun than that.

Some stakes being attached to it.

So I'm rooting for it. I hope Garrett Crochet beats Toronto tonight and your Yankees take care of business against Max Freed and you guys are tied for the division lead going into the Baltimore Series. That's what I hope. Sincerely. Who does Toronto close the season against?

So they're playing. Please tell me they're at home against Tampa. Tell me that's the case, because Tampa's no good and they're not playing for anything. If that's what's happening, then Even better. They let's see here.

They cl yep Tampa. In Toronto.

So if the Orioles take two out of three against the Yankees... They're going to win two out of three this weekend against Tampa, and we're going to ruin everything for you. It'll make me smile, ear to ear. It'll make My season. I mean, got nothing else.

Great stuff. YOUR On the track. With Josh Strap, W S J M Yes.

So it's good. I don't know. If I could, boy, boy, boy, like a sudden. If you'd like to go see Wake Forest. Host George Attack.

That is the 16th ranked Yellow Jacket Saturday in Winston-Salem. All you have to do is give us a call at 336-777-1600. And tell me something. Good. that's going on with you right now.

It's a segment we call weekly positivity. Again, the numbers 336-777-1600. Will Dalton's going to the football game. Earlier that morning, Wake basketball is going to be having an open practice. I think I saw.

9:30 gates might be opening for that. I may take baby Daniel to that. Hang out. Watch a little hoop. WD will have the football covered because finding the game on TV won't be hard.

It is on Big ESBN. Saturday at noon. Wake Forest in Georgia Tech. If you would like to go 336-777-1600, because presented by Biscuit Team, it is time. for weekly Positivity.

I don't know, Rusty. when this is all over, your father. Maybe going away a little while. National Lampoons Vacation W D's movie for next week. In honor of our friend Sean Clark, we need weekly.

positivity. in a week. Like This W D Weekly positivity brought to you by Biscuit King. Biscuits. Tell me something.

Good. Yeah. I'll tell you what I think. Good. That's kind of the whole point of the segment.

I just got a gnat in the studio. That's good. got it with my hand. That might be the same gnat that was in my studio yesterday.

So I'm really excited. Because Sunday, the Panthers, they're gonna be on the road. Gonna be in New England. That's good. Drake May's favorite team growing up, gonna get to go up against him.

That'll be fun for him. Do we know that he was a Panther fan? Hey, he grew up in Charlotte, he's a Panther fan.

Okay, you take the phone call while We consider that because Yeah. I don't know. But that's true. You can make That assumption, maybe he went to some Panther games. I guess when he was first starting to learn football.

The 2015 Panthers were a thing right when he was set to go into high school and that's when you really start to into things more ravenously, but just for the premise of your case. Fine. That's good, but wouldn't you agree it'd be better if it was in Charlotte? Why is it good that the Panthers are on the road? Because You and I are gonna hang out.

Watch some game and watch some one o'clock games together. We're going to watch that. You're also going to go to my church. I'm gonna do the hat. Shout out to Two Cities.

What's happening? We're going to watch Jackson Dart. His debut together. We definitely need to bet on this game somehow. We probably should.

Why not? We'll figure it out. I'll see what props we can find for Jackson Dart. Looking forward to it. That's all.

Good. Yeah. Let's go to Garrett, who's in Greensboro. Garrett? How are you?

I'm good, guys. Let's do that again. I'm Your what? I am doing very good. Very.

Good. It sounds like that you're doing.

Okay, so why are you doing very good, Gary? I'm doing very good.

Okay. because I aced my Spanish test. Wow! Muy bueno. I um Garrett, this is the part where...

I reveal to you. that in order to earn my communications degree that I Got it, East Carolina University. I had to take Four semesters of Spanish, four. And It was the last one, the last of the four was the hardest thing I've ever had to. Try to maneuver through and figure out I think I got a D.

but it was enough that I still was able to get through it. It was so tough. Tell me what was on your test. What were some of the things you were tested on? This test was the second one, and it was mainly just geography.

Okay, so like South American countries geography? Yes, the countries and their capitals along with the Central American countries. and our capitals and then the Well, I'm giving you an opportunity, Garrett, to dazzle us. Like, what? Do you want to rattle off some of these capitals that you've learned that you just aced on your test?

Well we have Carac has been a sweler. Uh Bog Bogota, Colombia, Quito, Ecuador, Lima, Peru. You're not reading right now, are you? Right? You're not reading.

You're just rattling these off on your head. That's impressive. Yes. Santiago, Chile. Uh, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

I knew that one. I think that's enough. I think you did pretty well. This is not another test. Like, you've passed the test, you got tickets to the football game on Saturday.

You've done that piece. And uh we are just uh all all dazzled by your Spanish acumen. Congratulations on what did was it a 100, or what was the actual score on the test? I got a ninety-seven. I gotta ask.

What was the miss? I missed the capital of Paraguay. Do you know what the capital of Paraguay is now? After the test, yes. I know that it is An Suncion or something like that.

That is correct. An Suncion is the capital of Paraguay. Yeah. You'll never forget that now, Carrot. Mm-hmm.

Congratulations on the 97. Enjoy the football, okay? Thank you. Go. Excellent work.

Garrett's part. I have a a show and tell. portion of my weekly positivity and telling you what's Good.

So Shout out to my friend George, who Gabe Sarah Brafford and I wake Or not wake. Virginia. tickets where we took our son to a game. A Week and a half ago. Had a wonderful time, Daniel's first sporting event.

That was great. But apparently George Is a huge Clayton Kershaw fan. and wanted to see him pitch. And Camden Yards in Baltimore a few weeks back, and knowing that my birthday was this month. And having been in Baltimore, he wanted to bring me a souvenir.

And he did.

So the weekend that he was there when the Dodgers were there. It was when they when Cal broke the record. It was the anniversary of Cal breaking the record 30 years ago, the 2131 anniversary.

So he got me laminated here. A MLB trademarked. Envelope that has Orio Park at Camden Yards on it. has a Lou Gehrig sticker. And it is from September 6, 1995.

They were giving out these. for people to have as mementos. marking the 2131 record being broken. That's pretty cool. Not that.

It's pretty cool. It's good. And uh UVA. Game day program. And uh Some other stuff.

The day I was at the game at Virginia, he was at that Georgia. Clemson game or the Georgia Tech Clemson game. That is it on a kick.

So Shout out. I got a flip card for Georgia Tech. I got to give that to you, Will, so that you're prepared. For the jackets. Yeah.

No, that's Will. Yeah. That don't want to make him jealous. You don't want to do that. Stuart making you jealous?

No, I'm not I'm I'm very um secure. in my possession. Secure with our relationship. Yeah. I like that.

J-A. Yes. How much nickelback are you gonna play today? At least one more song. This is the second or third that you've played just in the last hour and change.

And I was listening to this in the card this morning. Not a joke.

Okay. I called him today, Darren Vott. Darren Vott joining us: D1 baseball, ACC baseball, et cetera. This is probably. The most usual way to start a segment that features unusual questions in it a little bit later on.

And he tells me. I ask him, how are you doing? He's like, I'm doing great. I just listened to Photograph by Nickelback. It's exactly what he said.

And then he said Because every time I listen to it I think of that. that that meme and it makes me laugh. And I said, did you do that on purpose?

So what?

Well, you kind of just quoted. Photograph by Nickelback and talking about looking at Okay. That meme. Every time I see it, it makes me laugh. It's the second lyric.

And On the other end of the lines, just uproarious laughter. Yeah, I didn't do that on purpose, Baron. Yeah, yeah, and I need what What do you want from me here? I don't know what to say. It's a fine thing to play.

I didn't know if you had any affection at all. No, I mean, I think it is. It is a fine thing to play. That is funny. I mean, there are a lot of things you could say to this.

This is a show you could rattle off Nickelbacks that we've done a segment for years where we talked about. about Nickelbacks. You know what stuck out to me in the explanation of of that? It wasn't really a story, just a quick anecdote, I guess. What It reminds Will of a meme.

And that's why he likes it. Like That song became popular when I was in high school. And that's how I remember it. Like, I remember it because it was a popular song.

So I I'm a little struck that I don't know. That's a thing. That's comedy, by the way, in 2025. The way we would talk about: hey, did you watch Anchorman? Hey, did you watch this comedy?

Nowadays, the Utes are just like, did you see that meme? Or did you see that? TikTok that was five, ten seconds long. Oh, yeah, that was in my feed, and that's. That's like a song.

So, so, um. Uh Soldier boys Turned my swag on, became. Popular popularized, like repopularized, what, like less than a year ago. because it was being used in reels. and TikToks.

And I had to explain to someone. Who um Was one of my interns.

So, this would have been last summer, one of my interns at USA Baseball. And I was like, I was in undergrad when this song came out. Like, we had a flag football team that we named Turn My Flag on because we were all so into this song. You don't have any recollection of that. That wasn't a life experience for you.

Like, you know what I mean? For me, it was a different Soldier Boy song. It was, no, it wasn't Cranked At Soldier Boy. It was actually huge when I was in college. Actually, that would have been like the year before I was in college.

So by the time I got there, you just hear it blaring. For me, I used to lift weights to kiss me through the phone. Da da da da da da da da da da. No wonder you were small. No wonder you small.

Did you get a good lift to that? Baby, that song is a banger. What are you talking about? Do you even know the song? Yes.

Okay, just checking. Can we get the baseball? Darren Bott's with us here. Uh what is crazier to you? that the Tigers have lost 10 of 11.

or that Cleveland's won 16 of 18. Cleveland and Detroit now tied for the AL Central lead. Cleveland with the tiebreaker between the two. They have two games left head to head with each other this week, with there only being five games remaining. The Tigers collapse.

has a chance to be historic. And that is only if it truly Plays out in a way that they miss out entirely. Um That's what surprises me more. Tarek Skubel is. maybe the best pitcher in baseball.

I think we have talked since Early in the preseason, about my affection for this Tigers team, and I really thought that they might be the best team in the AL entering the year.

So that's more surprising and um You know, three runs coming across. across five batters against Scoobel. yesterday without a single ball leaving the infield like that That's That's pretty s surprising and also emblematic of Man, they just can't. They cannot figure it out. They can't get it done.

The better pitcher on the mound last night was. ECU's Gavin Williams with A career high 12 K's. Against Tariq Skubel, and we'll see what happens tonight when Tanner Bybey. Throws. against Jack Flaherty later on.

The playoffs start next week. In terms of pennant contenders. What league are you having more difficulty figuring out? It's probably the National League, and it's solely because of the Dodgers. Like The bullpen is in complete disarray.

But do you agree there are four teams that can win the NL? It's Dodgers, Padres. It's Cubs, we'll include the Cubs in that. And then brewers. Who else can win other than those four teams?

Cubs, Brewers. Dodgers Padres. I mean, it's tough to count out the Phillies. Oh, yeah.

Well, I forgot about them. Would you put the Cubs in that mix then? Because I'd probably put Philly over the. The cars. I for sure would put Philly ahead of the Cubs.

I would pretty much everybody other than the Mets. Yes, I would apprehensively put the Cubs in that mix.

Okay. Their pitching scares me, not in that it's not performing well right now, but in that every pitcher they will call upon. In big spots. is like double their previous maximum Innings in a season at this point. And they lost to the Mets last night at home.

Sure. I mean, it's one game. It's fine. They like they're they're in.

So like it's They embarrassed themselves in front of John Mulaney, who was singing, Take Me Out to the Ballgame, and then it was announced he'd be the first comedian to ever perform at. Wriggly Field. Never happened before. That is surprising. As many musical acts and things like that that have been.

Bill Murray never performed I guess? Did Bill Murray ever do stand-up? Like, that would be the one that you'd. Kind of highlight it, maybe. But John Maloney is going to have to figure out a way to in incorporate Bill Murray, somehow at Wrigley next year.

100%. He's got to be there. Got to do that. Um, Um Yeah, and then the American League. To me, it's Alright, you have...

Cleveland who's white hot, Seattle that's white hot. And then Toronto? Yeah. Well, because everybody else besides the two that you just named, Cleveland and Seattle, were really up at one point. And then they've kind of had their downs, right?

Certainly not buying into the Yankees.

Okay. It's tough to count them out, sort of. Yeah, it is. That lineup doesn't scare me. Their pitching doesn't scare me.

Nothing about that team scares me. But You get enough out of certain guys who have been there and done it before. And that bullpen. We know bullpens, you have to have a good bullpen to win in October. What are we talking about?

Yankees, nah. I'm writing them off. If you're riding off the Cubs, I'm riding off the Yankees. Yeah, no, that's fair. I think it's a fair Sort of um Inverse skepticism.

Yeah. Also, rooting for, but here's the thing: rooting for the Yankees tonight, Max Freed throwing against the White Sox, and then Garrett Crochet beating the Blue Jays tonight.

So that way the Yankees are tied for the AL East lead. And the Orioles can mess it all up this weekend at Yankee Stadium. That's what I want. That's what I want. That's all I want.

Just give us something to mess up. To do that. Speaking of which, I spoke to my father on the phone earlier today. He just got back from a trip to Baltimore with a friend from church. where they went to a couple of the Yankee games.

At Camden Yards, and he was gleeful at how. annoyed the Yankee fans were that They couldn't get Aaron Judge going against the Orioles.

So that was that was fun for him. I love that. Let's get to unusual questions. Last week, guys, I made it out that I got mad at Josh and I left the press conference. That's not right.

I thought it was an unusual question, and it's okay. It's time for unusual questions. with Josh Graham. And WD's telling me I have an extra pair of Wake Forest Georgia Tech tickets. Ranked Georgia Tech's coming to Winston-Salem on noon.

If you have an unusual question, we'll give you a pair of tickets to that game. Really, just a question for Darren Vot, myself, and. WD here at 336-777-1600. I'll get the bidding started with. Just uh something a new s annoyance my wife has with me.

That Essentially, I need to know if it's If it's a well-founded annoyance or not. I Think it's okay. to wear my socks When I walk to the end of the driveway. I think that's okay. to wear my socks.

When I'm going to the garage or staying on pavements. to go check the mail. Yeah. To put Bends out. or to greet my wife and Willow the dog when they're done with their evening walk.

My wife. Pretty clearly, even though she hasn't said this blatantly. Takes issue with it. She points it out every single time. Why are you not wearing shoes?

She says I would almost rather you walk Barefoot. Yeah, that's my move. Thin socks? Yeah, because like. But the socks protect your feet.

They get dirty.

So do your feet. Right? Socks.

Well, you can wash the socks. Yeah, but you're going to continue to wear the socks. Correct. Yeah, I'm not worried about the socks being unable to wash when I'm not. Walking on grass and/or dirt.

I'm walking on concrete. I'm just saying, if you walk outside with no socks on, The debate isn't what's better between socks and barefoot. She would object to barefoot as well, probably. No, no, no.

Okay. Is it okay to wear socks? Her grievance here, undoubtedly. Is that the socks get dirty? You then Track around the house in the dirty socks.

Which is what would happen if you're wearing, if it's barefoot as well. Not not unless. Upon re-entering the home, You go and just like wash your feet off Because they have they have outdoor on them Okay. Why would you not do that? You wash your hands after you, you know, handle raw chicken or, you know, mess around in the dirt.

Wait, what? I'm just kidding. W. D., how would you answer this? Uh I don't do that.

Um I don't I don't have a problem with it necessarily because I've done it. I would just rather not. If I If I had to choose, I would just rather not.

So, when I logged in, I saw the comments for today. Will, I think you're like tiptoeing the fence a lot today. You've been taking some heat for it. And that's kind of what you just did there.

Well, he decided to do a few things. He's going to stand for something, man. He has no issue with Jordan Hudson trying to grift. He has no issue, even if he knows she's grifting. And has no issue.

Well, also, he is claiming that. One type of Reese cup is a lot better than this is true. This is true. What was it? This could be your unusual question.

I'm going to make it my unusual question. Is. The pumpkin The Christmas, the holiday-themed Reese cups, even though they're not cups, they're just Reese's. Are they Uh Better. Better than the OT.

Then the OG cups. Yeah. That's a known thing. When the comments agree with me, Josh says it's the same thing. But it's not.

No, it's about the ratio. The Easter egg shape is good. The Halloween pumpkin is good. The Halloween bat. Underappreciated because within the wings, you get a certain, it's a different.

Bye. They talk my language. The Christmas tree is good. Like we could I I would maybe I would have thought the more likely unusual question for a segment would be to rank them just because we all assume that they're better than the OG. Reese's cops.

I'm getting dunked on because again, Tyler writes in wearing socks down the driveway is maniacal. Buy some slides, OG. That's it. You just have some slides and set them next to the door. You get a mud room or whatever at the house.

What am I? A college athlete? I have three pairs of slides in my college in my closet. Did you do that in college? Yes, exactly.

Do it now. Prefer a a a thong to flip-flop? Like what else? What do you wear? Yes, I do.

I do at night when I am barefoot. I take Willow the Dog out in thong barefoot, like in thong uh uh Uh sandals, yeah. You don't take Willow the dog out. In socks and only socks, then, like, what are we doing here? No, well, I treat it the same as no, I, but I walk in grass with Willow the dog.

And grass. I don't, I'm talking about staying on pavement with the socks. on pavement. That's all I was talking about. Pavement still gets mad, dude.

In this area, in this state. What do you do in the spring when there's like it's covered in pollen? You're wearing socks out there. You missed an opportunity to actually sincerely, quite literally say, in this climate. Darren, what's your unusual question?

this climate I already forgot it. I had it locked and loaded and I'm stuck on the slides here. Do you own slides? Yeah, I got a pair of, actually, you'll get a kick out of this. Literally.

They are Checkered, black and white checkered vans slides. And you know where I keep them? Whoa. At the door.

So if like I I feel compelled to go get the mail or whatever, I just You slide them on? You slide them off at the door. You got a little, I got a little bench that they kind of slide underneath so it disguises it, but it's also somewhere if you need to like. Tie your shoes on the way out. You sit down and Work that out.

Those are some baller slides. In this climate. They are, Will. I don't know what they look like, but they sound fantastic. I don't know.

If my wife's listening. If she is aunt. We can't include this segment of the podcast. Yeah. And that's been Unusual questions.

For this week. She does. She listens to the podcast. And then she will, like two days later, she'll be catching up on it. And then she'd want to just debate a segment.

that we did two days ago. Already talked about that. This is true. I can attest because she actually shot me a text last night. Cause uh We were talking about, we went to Dario yesterday and I got the salad.

You did. I got a jalapeno chicken. I was talking about it's a big salad. That seems counterintuitive, but continue. Thank you.

And you know, the Seinfeld clip between George and. Elaine, where George is like, you couldn't just have the regular salad. You have to have the big salad. And he puts his arms up in the air. And she sent me a gif of that.

And it really made me happy. Excellent work by my wife. Darren, we appreciate you. We'll talk to you next week.

Sounds good. See you guys.
