The Brewers' series against the Dodgers is crucial for their season, with the team having beaten them four out of seven times this year. However, last year's performance was different, with the Brewers sweeping the Dodgers in the regular season but getting swept in the playoffs. The team's pitching has improved this year, with Logan Henderson and Tarek Skubel performing well, but they still need to face the Dodgers' top pitchers, including Blake Snell and Shohei Otani, in the playoffs.

I'm Bart Winkler. Great to be with you on this Sunday night. Brewers have taken. A series from the Dodgers, three games. to four, which means they've got the 2026 regular season.

Series In their favor. By four games to three.

So they played a best of seven here in the 2026 regular season, and the Brewers win. But again, will it matter in the postseason? Last year it did not. We'll find out maybe. About this year, should they match up in the postseason?

On an aside, Jake says, Did I read the doomsday spoiler?

Sounds confusing as hell. I've read what I hope is not a movie. But everything they come out with seems to be that that is the movie. Um Vision Quest looks good. But now they're done making TV shows.

I don't. The Marvel But some of us want Shows of any genre in the backdrop of the Of the universe that they've done a great job creating. But some of you. I gotta do homework. Thanks, Jake, for that.

I want to talk Brewers Dodgers. And I want to talk about Why this regular season series is important. And I also want to talk about why it's not. or why it may not be. This, I think, could be a little more beneficial.

Than what happened last year, because last year the big problem was the Brewers beat the Dodgers six out of six times. And when I go through these games in a minute. The Dodgers team they played in the middle of the summer. Was not the same Dodgers team that they played in the postseason. The Dodgers pretty much.

Sat everybody on they they they they stored them. They they saved them. They they break glass and bubble wrap, you know? And then, oh, now Blake Snell's ready. And oh, Shoei can pitch again.

So the Dodgers did, there was a lot of that going on. This series. At least in the finale, we got to see the Brewers go up against. Tarek Skubel. The guy that we all wanted.

The guy that some of us thought we were getting, including maybe Matt Arnold and Pat Murphy themselves. But the Tigers had a one-track mind. All they wanted to do was get scuba to the Dodgers or get the return that the Dodgers were going to provide. The Brewers, no matter what they tried to offer, It was never going to be in the cards. And A lot of the reporting is, well, Logan Henderson was the untouchable, and to my.

Pushback on that. Logan Henderson was untouchable because. The Tigers The Tigers were never going to trade with the Brewers. The Tigers wanted to trade with the Dodgers. Which they did.

And with the Brewers, they could keep having excuses like, oh, we're going to ask for more. They asked for more with the Brewers because the Brewers had more.

Now, Logan Henderson. Against Tarek Scoobel today. That's why this trade comes back up. in the forefront. Matt says Logan is truly turning into a stud right before our eyes.

Unfortunately for him, he just gets overshadowed by The Miz for a couple of different ways. First of all, The Miz is throwing 105. Henderson's not doing that. He's topping out in the lower to mid, maybe 90s. And they were talking on the broadcast.

I think Tim and Brian had a great broadcast today, they had a lot of good points. that I will end up bringing up here because I thought, oh, that's interesting. Tim said something very interesting, Tim Dillard, about how. The Dodgers Like scouting reports change, and they were still pitching the brewers today as if they were using the scouting reports earlier in the week. They weren't pitching the Brewers today.

With The knowledge of what they've done actually to the Dodgers in this series. Jake Bowers got on. He got on base five times against left-handed pitching. Four of those were hits. This was a career day for Jake Bowers in the 5-6-2, 6-2 win over the Dodgers on Sunday.

And he'd be the player of the game. you know, wholeheartedly here on the Winkler wrap. or Bart breakdown. or whatever. Yeah.

I'm going to do one every day. I'm gonna do it for 10 minutes. With my shit AI graphics on the side. I'm just talking out of my ass. Eric says Bower's balling on.

But he was, but the player of the day was Henderson. Who I believe Through a career high pitches in 93. And seven innings. I don't know if he's gone seven innings before. Just based on what they were talking about when they polled him.

Certainly hasn't done it this year.

So, yeah, he goes seven. Just three hits. One earned run, which was the home run to Muncie. And, you know, he's 35. That fucker, he's not going to last forever.

Six K's. Patrick came in. Ashby came in, was really good. And then a haul came in and Gave up a Home run at the end here to Pajes. You know, just for S's and G's, but Six to two, the final in this one.

So This game, Tarek Scoobel. Brewers found a way to get to him. Was it the coaching? Was it Scoobel? Was it.

Henderson, I don't know what it was. I still would love. To have Tarek Schubel? I think we all would. But if the guy that you didn't trade him for I'll duels him in a head-to-head matchup.

That's a good day. That's a good day. It's a good Sunday. That's a good um That's a good sign. One thing I was thinking about Dave Roberts.

Who was one of the guys that came in late? For the Dodgers. Um Kyle Hurt.

So Kyle Hurt is 28 years old. He's one of the Dodgers relievers. I don't know much about him. He's actually been with the Dodgers for the last few years. But not last year.

So he's been with the Dodgers a few years. Last summer, Or in 2024, July, he needed Tommy John, R.I.P. Today.

So he missed all of 2025. And now he's back in 26. He's been a Dodger 23, 24, 26. and then he missed the year they won the World Series again. But I just like Dave Roberts, you've got this super collection of talent.

You just added Scoobel. Before you added Snell, you get any Japan all-star that you want. You fleece the Red Sox for Mookie Bets. You get Freddie Freeman, even though he didn't want to come there. You get them.

Do you think Roberts is like... I don't give a shit about this guy. I only like, I got my guys. All these interchangeable parts. Fuck you.

Because Dave Roberts doesn't have to do much. Oh, I'm gonna take this stud out and pinch hit him with this stud. Or we'll get our pinch running specialist who can also smash. Or last year, who was that guy that pitched? four relief innings that was a total no name.

And then the no-name catchers cranking bombs. It's just all these guys step up. But if you're Dave Roberts, you got to like. You got to get to an all-star game at least three times before I'm letting you look me in the eye when you talk to me. But Pat Murphy could be the same way.

Like the Brewers got this new guy at second base, and apparently, there's some history there, Johnny Rockets. Jonathan Ornillis. New Ornelis, as I call him. Copyright? But like he They've had all these injuries in the infield.

And then they had this bay guy, BAE, earlier this week. And he was only up here for like four days. Did Pat Murphy even does he even bother to like get to know him? And Pat Murphy's twice manager of the year, reigning. And he's Mr.

Friendly and he everyone loves him. He loves everybody, but... What's the point of getting to know some of these guys if You know. They're not long for your team. Like I know this bay guy is.

This was the only person we could get here. to play second for a couple of days and do it horribly. And maybe he'll, you know, maybe some of these guys stick. This is kind of the part of the year where it's Nadorf time. This was the first time where we had Eric Sogard.

Sogard was here. Homer in one of his first games, I think. Or I feel like he did that, but it's like these guys in the middle of the summer. That you just need for the dog days. They're going to be here for three days to three weeks.

We'll never remember they were a part of our team. But in the moment You can't like just ignore them.

So I just I just wonder how much getting to know is going on. with a guy you know you're not going to need to get to know. For both of these managers, I guess. Hey, it's Ryan Reynolds here from Mint Mobile.

Now, I was looking for fun ways to tell you that Mint's offer of unlimited premium wireless for $15 a month is back.

So I thought it would be fun if we made $15 bills. But it turns out, That's very illegal.

So there goes my big idea for the commercial. Give it a try at midmobile.com/slash switch. Up front payment of $45 for three months, $90 for six months, or $180 for a 12-month plan required, $15 per month equivalent to taxes and fees extra. Initial plan term only greater than 50 gigabytes means low when network is busy. See terms.

Mom, Dad, you should show up Amazon for back to school and save some money. See, I'm currently obsessed with superheroes and need all the superhero stuff: superhero launchbox, superhero backpack. But next year, it'll be something else. Maybe dinosaurs? I don't know.

I'm not a fortune teller. But I can tell you not to spend a fortune and shop low prices for school on Amazon.

Okay. Good chat. Amazon. Spend less. Smile more.

Now This series was important. In 2026. For a couple of reasons. They beat Scoobel. That's sh that's it's just one win in the standings.

It's one you'd want to get. Especially beating with Henderson, beating them with Henderson.

So they beat Scoobel. That's good. That's good. I just, in the moment, it feels good. But the next time you're gonna see Scoobel, if you are gonna see him, he's probably going to rock the shit out of you in the playoffs but at least you've beaten them And you know that you can.

So maybe there's something to that. Second is they've got the series. Lead now over the Dodgers. They only played him six times last year, so this time they played him seven, the weird. shit baseball does to kind of keep it balanced.

But they play him seven times. This was the rubber match today. Because they dropped two in Milwaukee.

Now they only drop one here in Los Angeles.

So that was good for this reason. And also, they had just come off of a series. which I'd called the dumbest of the year. Not that the Padres aren't playing well, they are. But the way they lost some of those games was pretty dumb.

Especially the last one. on Wednesday afternoon.

So it was good to get off the Schneider, good to do it against the Dodgers. Good to kind of make The boogeyman not feel quite so boogie.

So, to do that, let me look at last year first. Let me look at last year because. I keep bringing this up. And I think that this is an important point. For those of you that are very excited that the Brewers beat the Dodgers, I don't want to take that away from you.

It's August 16th. You know, sports are. We're getting to football. I mowed my lawn today around noon. It wasn't as humid.

It was a little windy. It felt like. An August college football game should be on my TV. Not quite. Good soccer weather.

I almost went to Chicago tonight to watch the Portland Timbers play the Chicago Fire. Four seats off of the field for 50 bucks each. And then I didn't have anyone to go with. And I didn't want to drive down to Chicago. Because you're driving down to Chicago, like you're in Chicago.

I got to get to this northwestern stadium because that's not. Chicago. You're going to drive through Chicago. I should have gone to that Pope Hat night. Getting to Chicago, it's very easy to get there, but it is a lot of work.

I don't like to leave the east side. Like I used to go to Hale's Corners. From Chorewood. There were days I went to Fond du Lac and then Hills Corners for the first two years I lived in Milwaukee. I don't like going that far.

I don't like going out to Tosa. One of the people I know around here is like, yeah, we went out to toaster this morning for breakfast. I'm like, you get breakfast here. Is this me or is it the older you get? Like Things are feeling farther away than to me.

I said this the other day about the Packers. Me going to getting on a plane, going to New Orleans. For a game. feels like a quicker trip for me than having to drive two hours to Green Bay. Maybe it's just a drive thing.

I don't know. I don't know. Yeah, MLS is a pathetic ass league, but. I'm a Timbers guy. Kind of.

I am a West Ham guy. Up to nothing today to Burnley, who I don't like because that's J.J. Watts' team. And then 80th minute. They blow uh They blow too.

A 2-2 tie to open up their championship. I would have taken the train, but I don't know if I can get it back Sunday nights. But yeah, the train is elite. The train is elite. to get to Chicago and I don't feel like enough people Do it.

There's something about having your own car that's nice. Uh but also, you know, having to park everywhere sucks. Mitch says, What's the difference between hell and Chicago? Hell doesn't charge you to get there. If Wisconsin still had its original borders.

We would still have Chicago. A good chunk of northeastern Minnesota and the UP. What would our state look like then? Chicago. would be the mecca.

What would Milwaukee be? Would we have a team here? Would we have a team like The Milwaukee White Sox, but it would feel like the Brooklyn Nets or the LA Angels. Like, no one really likes this team. I don't know.

Interesting. interesting things to sleep about or think about while I'm falling asleep. I like to think about weird scenarios when I'm falling asleep. My go-to one is: I imagine my house is a boat. And me and my family are pirates at sea.

Or or just take gummies. 25% off. I will tell you. I've been taking the um 25 meg gummies. At happyplacehem.com.

And I feel I feel it more when I drink the um seltzers. But if you want a good night of sleep, I'm talking a good night of sleep. You take these gummies when you wake up. You might wait Mm. It might be hard to get up.

So on the weekend, I would use them. You got to play around a little bit. I think the Seltzers get you there, you wake up good. These the actual gummies, this is all personal experience. Brother, I didn't get up out of bed till 11 today.

Now they go to bed at two. I was up late. I was rewatching Hawkeye. And some other bullshit I was doing, but. I didn't get up till 11.

My kid was gone with my wife somewhere. I had this whole morning to do whatever I wanted. And I slept in and mowed the lawn. Felt like I let Sunday morning, get away from me. A little bit.

Oh, and I watched 10 minutes of West Ham, the 10 minutes. when I got scored on twice. Let me take you back to 2025. We're talking Brewers-Dodgers here. Into the Winkler verse on a Sunday night, getting into Monday.

Carlos Ortiz will be with me on Monday. I believe Grant's on vacation, so my Wait a week. I got some other things I'm working on. Or I don't, and I'm just saying that. To get you on the hook.

But I've done a Sunday podcast, so that always makes me feel like I can take a day off if. I got nothing to talk about. But I'll I'll I'll I'll I won't do that. There's a lot going on. There's enough going on.

So let's talk about 2025. Because the Brewers played the Dodgers six times last year. And they won every game. 913132208765.

So they scored a bunch of runs and kept them at bay. They won close games that were low scoring. They won close games that were high scoring. Here's the problem. With last year against the Dodgers.

For the most part. They had all their They're batters. There might have been a guy or two hurt. But it was the pitching. Last year, first game of the season.

Yamamoto. Miller Park. Doesn't even get out of the first inning. Only 47 pitches. Two-thirds of an inning.

Gave up four hits. Three earned, they got him out of there.

So Yamamoto did pitch in the playoffs. But this was a very uncharacteristic Yamamoto performance.

Okay. Then They won three to one. This is last year. They beat Clayton Kershaw. Who had a nice quality start, six innings.

Six hits. to earn, but then Kershaw, they didn't need. in the post-Caesar. The next game, they beat Tyler Glas now. who only win five in that game.

Two hits, five Ks.

So Glass now, they'd see. And Yamamoto they'd see, but Yamamoto was uncharacteristically bad. The next game Now in Los Angeles. They beat Glasnow again, but Glasnow still pitched well. Six innings, just one earned run.

Then they won 8-7. This is all last year. Emmett Sheehan only pitched three innings. And then they won 6-5. And Kershaw pitched again.

Four and a third gave up five hits. Three-earn runs.

So in the regular season, In the regular season. The Brewers We're really able to do much off of glass now. Got to Kershaw. Got the Yamamoto. And got to Emmett Sheehan.

All right.

So now we go to the playoffs, the 2025. playoffs where the Brewers obviously got swept. By the Los Angeles Dodgers. And what were the pitching matchups there? A far cry from what you saw.

in the middle of the summer. All right.

So in the playoffs. Against the Dodgers. Last year. The Brewers faced Blake Snell in game one. And Snell was f Fucking amazing.

One hit over eight innings. And he struck out 10.

So already you're up against the guy who you didn't have to face before because he was hurt, he was being arrested. Then in game two, you're taking on Yamamoto in the NLCS, and you think, all right. We've gotten to him earlier this season.

Well, he went complete. Gave up just three hits, struck out seven. I might be jogging your memory on some of this. This was a lot more painful than we even remember. in this series.

Game three. And now it's out in LA. Those first two games were at home.

Now, Glass, now he pitches just how he pitched. for you. Earlier in the season, five and two-thirds, three hits, one earned. AK's and then the bullpen They combine over three innings, just give up one hit. And then that last game against Shohei Otani.

As we remember, he was a monster. At the plate with three home runs. He also pitched six innings. allowed just two hits and struck out 10.

So, the exercise here is the Brewers last year. Swept the Dodgers. They won all six games against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the regular season in the year 2025. and they did well against their pitching. But then in the second Or the second time around, the second season.

They got their ask. Hand it to him, the brewers did.

So Can this year look better? We have seven games now. To look at. Could this year possibly? Look better.

Beginning of the season. It was Logan Henderson getting a win over Justin Roboleski. He's not going to be in the rotation. Brewers lost 11-3. Roki Sazaki got the start.

He's not going to be in the rotation. But he pitched all right. Dodgers 5-1 then. Again, this is in Milwaukee. Yamamoto, great.

Seven innings, seven hits. but just one earned.

Now the series in Los Angeles The Brewers faced on, oh, they faced Sazaki again. He pitched well. But the Brewers got the win. in a comeback fashion. Then Yamamoto on Friday, he pitched well again.

Then it was Robaleski again yesterday. And then today it was Scoobel.

So it does seem like. This year The Brewers Faced more of the pitching they'll see or at least better pitching. It wasn't Yamamoto not getting out of the first inning. It wasn't um It wasn't any of that. It was guys they're going to see.

So it could be better, but then you think: well, we haven't seen Snell and we haven't seen Otani.

So All I'm saying. Is it's hard? Two. Take this. and assure that it's going to happen.

in October. I don't think it will. But You beat him four out of seven times. More against the kind of guys you're gonna face. This one against Scoobel may be tilting the scales.

but I would feel better. About a potential matchup than I would have last year when they had all these guys back.

Now, if we have to face the Dodgers and they go Otani Snell. If that's how it lines up, you know, that's two guys we haven't seen again. I'm sure if they can stack it. You'll get Otani. to pitch as many times as he can and Scoobel.

But then Yamamoto I mean, am I wrong here? What order do you put them in? Glass now is like. The five? By default, when you could start, I mean, Roboleski, we would kill to have him as a three.

Or Emma Sheehan. Or Roki Sazaki, they're going to throw him what? Back in the pen or. Be the long guy now that he's stretched out. I don't know.

I don't know. USAA knows dynamic duos can save the day, like superheroes and sidekicks or auto and home insurance. With USAA, you can bundle your auto and home and save up to 10%. Tap the banner to learn more and get a quote at USAA.com slash bundle. Restrictions apply.

Mom, Dad, you should shop Amazon for back to school and save some money. See, I'm currently obsessed with superheroes and need all the superhero stuff. Superhero launchbox, superhero backpack. But next year, it'll be something else. Maybe dinosaurs?

I don't know, I'm not a fortune teller. But I can tell you not to spend a fortune and shop low prices for school on Amazon.

Okay. Good shot. Amazon, spend less, smile more. Mel says crowd in Milwaukee was terrible. when we played the Dodgers at home last year.

Yes, it was. It was very bad. It was so bad. It was so quiet. It was so dead.

I don't think the crowd against the Cubs was great. I think we were so tense in that series we had to beat the Cubs. I'll look right into the screen. And again, we're a reactionary fan base.

So the crowd would have been good against the Dodgers if we would have scored five runs right away. Because the crowd game won the Brewers. Then Bush hit a homer and then the Brewers came back, scored some runs and were like, oh my God. There's nothing I can do to change that. We are reactionary.

Fan base. It seems like it's always going to be this way. I don't know how to get that to change. It doesn't seem like it's gonna. anytime soon.

I don't want to dwell on it too much because I've done that a lot. But she's right. The crowd was bad. The crowd was bad. And can we stop this?

If you go to these games. Maybe you don't want to stand up and cheer. Maybe you don't want. To get into the big moment, that's fine. I mean, it's not, but if that's what you're going to do, it's fine.

But then you do the thing where you're like, oh no, the crowd was good. What are you talking about? You're lying. Don't lie. Stop with the lies.

We can see if the crowd's dog shit or not. But the Brewers aren't gonna get to a World Series based on crowd alone. They need to play. Brewers baseball. And this was a big Brewers baseball game today.

Like, we're going to take advantage of every opportunity you get us. Tyler Skubel or Tarek Skubel. had the kind of game that you can win with that kind of game. But there were two heirs behind Dodger pitching today. Henderson was great.

Ashby was huge to get that double play on Shoe.

So these the guys the guys are going to have to step up. A lot of people say like. Why do you shit on the manager? He's not the one out there making the plays, but he's the manager, he's the coach. The coach And managers should be able to get blamed when your team loses.

Otherwise, why have them? The crowd, I don't think I'm going to blame the crowd. On a loss. But the crowd can certainly help get credit for a win. The players have to be able to play anywhere.

And sometimes players say they like playing on the road because there's less pressure. What kind of pressure are Brewers' crowds giving you? None. Dodger Crowd today, by the way. I guess they don't go on Sundays.

Pretty empty. Pretty empty in Chavez Ravine. It's such a beautiful stadium. It's one of the places I've never been yet, but. There is so much parking.

You want to talk about not being able to go anywhere. How do people get around LA without Dr. Strange sling rings? How many times I gonna mention Marvel in one fucking podcast? X-Men Cast looks good.

All right, so the Brewers coming up. They've got an off day. That's good. Then the mariners come to town. for a three-game set.

I believe I will be there on Thursday. Little day action. And then they got the Braves. I'm excited for this Braves series because I want them to stop. advertising the um Cheerio bowl.

Because I got two of those and the brewers gave me two. They gave me a bunch of giveaways for the tailgate. They gave me two Churio bowls. I put them together with the Churio baseball as one prize. I should have kept the bowls for my kid.

Now, didn't you already steal guess who? Yes, I did, but not stealing. I was given all this. I'm a hero for giving away any of it. Also, guess who you had then put it together?

I wasn't. Prepared for that. And It's the question: if you have this Brewer's Guess Who game, our go-to question's been: is he wearing an M? on his cap or not. Because there's like Braun and Hardy and those guys.

But then the old brewers have the ball and glove, and then the new brewers have the new ball and glove. I do want to talk to Vinny Rettino. Because he's in guess who. And Tim Dillard's not. Oh nor is rock.

He's the only one from their broadcast crew. That's in uh In guess who.

So that was going to be. I always like one out-of-the-box question. That was going to be the dynamite thing I asked Vinny. Maybe at some point.

So they have, they have. The They have the They have the Mariners. And then they have the Braves. Why is the Friday game at 3 o'clock? Did we know that?

Did I know that? Why is the Friday game at three o'clock? Sunday is at six o'clock because they're playing. They're playing in Williamsport at the Little League World Series. I didn't know the Friday game was at three o'clock.

The special afternoon game honors. Contra contributions. That have shaped the s shape the sport and local community. Wave Chappelle joined us for a first pitch. with marching bands and a curated marketplace.

Okay, Black Culture Fest.

Alright, so it's a it's a yeah, okay. Community night. All right, so you got the game at three o'clock. I mean, whatever, it's four. I don't care.

I just. I mean, I do care. Braves at three. Braves at one on Saturday. And they're giving away the Hank Aaron jerseys, the ones that we had at the tailgate, too.

And then 610 at night on Sunday. On ESPN They're reclaiming Sunday night baseball for a night. Um And there's going to be a Cheerio giveaway poster.

Okay. It's technically a home game, so you can get a Cheerio poster at a hype poster if you go to the game in Williamsport. I don't know anyone that's making that trek, but... Then they go up to the Mets.

Next week.

So rest of the month, Mariners, Braves. Mats. Rangers That's back at home. And then they have the Cubs. To start.

And then that will be it. Oh no, the Cubs come here again. I'm just looking at theme nights now. Hank the Dog plushie. We're still doing Hank the Dog, huh?

We're still doing Hank the Dog.

So, this was a good weekend for the Brewers. It was a bad week. It looked to be a bad West Coast trip. But then they took three or four for the Dodgers.

So they once again, as of their game being over, 77 and 48. It's the best record in all of baseball. Up two on the raise. You're up two and a half on the Braves and up three on the Dodgers. More importantly, you're up five on the Cubs.

And the Cubs kind of ran into a little bit of a Cardinals buzz saw over the weekend. Including um Who just came up? And hit uh oh. Yeah, was it Jonathan Baez? Joshua Baez?

I saw Jay Baez three home runs. I go, okay. Good for him. But it's Joshua Baiers. First three at bats, three homers at Wrigley.

The other day.

So Cardinals doing well to keep the Cubs. Kind of down a little bit. There's a concert after the game Friday. Michael says, former Dodgers part owner Magic Johnson has AIDS. What a dark chapter in Dodger history.

I think we're going to end there. Thanks, Michael. Thanks for stopping into the Winklerverse on this. On the Sunday night. We'll be back with Carlos tomorrow.

Mom, Dad, you should shop Amazon for back to school and save some money. See, I'm currently obsessed with superheroes and need all the superhero stuff. Superhero launchbox, superhero backpack. But next year, it'll be something else. Maybe dinosaurs?

I don't know. I'm not a fortune teller. But I can tell you not to spend a fortune and shop low prices for school on Amazon.
