And We'll get to it. We can get to it. Just put the subject line, radio comment, or radio question, and we can get to it. All right, I'm going to adjust my camera here in a sec. While I'm talking to Tony from Pennsylvania, Tony, welcome.
You're on the air. Tony, you there? Hello? Oh, yeah. Hello?
Yes.
Okay, there you go, brother. What do you got, man? What's up? Hi, Matt. Yes, I wanted to ask you regarding the life after death, so To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
So after death, Uh what happens to the soul And body, or the soul and spirit, or is it soul and spirit is it interchangeable, or is it? Yeah, there's a there's yeah, they are they're spoken of interchangeably in scripture.
Some hold to what's called dichotomy, that there's just soul and spirit are the same thing, and some hold to trichotomy, where soul, spirit, and body are all different things.
So, both are within orthodoxy. But anyway, so I kind of lean towards dichotomy because the Bible uses the terms interchangeably.
So, I kind of lean towards that. But anyway, I could be wrong, but that's just where I'm at.
So you wanna know what happens to a a person after he dies, or he or she, right? Correct, yeah. If you're a Christian, You're conscious, you go be with the Lord. If you're not a Christian, you're conscious, you go to a place of punishment. suffering right away.
And that's it. And then and then um The body as well, or the body The body stays in the grave, it dies, and will not be resurrected until, well, the time of the resurrection. And the Christians will be resurrected to an everlastingly nice, wonderful body. And the wicked will be united with their body, and they will suffer in hell for. Forever.
Okay. Out.
Alright, thanks man. You're welcome. You got any more else? Anything else you want to ask? No?
Yeah, not now, but uh Are you looking at annihilation or soul sleep? Is that why you're asking? No, no, just just I was just wondering about the body and the soul. Like, does the body. Yeah, just Just the body and soul, I was just pondering on as the body comes along.
No, no, the physical body dies. Uh So when When a person dies, they go into the grave, their body goes in the grave. or cremated or a tomb. The soul, spirit, goes to be with the Lord, is conscious and aware.
Okay, and that's what happens. Thanks, Matt. All right, brother. God bless.

So they're just a quick, I call it quick and slick, and Matt Slick Live. Slick is my real last name. Let's get to DJ from South Carolina. DJ, welcome. You're on the air.
Hey buddy, how's it going, man? It's gone. It's gone, brother.
So what do you got? All right, all right. I just had some questions about the Ethiopian Bible. I've been hearing some things about it. I guess my algorithm's causing these things to come up, trying to get me to buy these different Bibles.
I just wanted to know what your take is on the other books, their importance, their relevance. I don't know, just elaborate on anything you can that might be helpful about the Ethiopian Bible and the books that the 22, I believe it is, books. And I don't have any other questions for that. I'm driving. I'm going to hang up and let you talk about it.
Okay, sounds good, brother. God bless.
Okay, I appreciate that. All right. Thanks, buddy. Bye.
Okay. So, um The Ethiopian Bible comes out of the Ethiopian Church, but it has 81 books in it instead of the standard 66 of the Protestants. The Catholics have 73.
Now, uh The extra books are things like Toboth and Maccabees, Jubilees, Baruch, things like that. They're not inspired. The Catholic Church says these extra books are inspired. The East Orthodox has extra. The Ethiopian has extra.
No, they're not inspired.
So what I'm going to do is um We go through something quickly. And um And cite something that Jesus Himself said in two places.
So I'm going to go to Luke 11:51. Yeah. From the blood of Jesus says, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed among the between the altar and the house of God. Oh my My uh program just crashed. My Bible program.
So, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, that was at the time of Christ, that was a reference to two different books. Genesis? and chronicles. And Genesis, of course, is the first book. And Chronicles at the time of Christ was listed as the last book.
We list Malachi as the last book. But their arrangement was just different. And they um They had chronicles at the end.
So it was like saying from the first of the last book, from the book, Blood of Abel, the Blood of Zechariah. And so that's a reference there. Another one that Jesus was referencing is Luke 24:30. Let's see, I think it's 44. Yes.
And he says something here, and they'll tie them together. He says in Luke 24, 44, these are my words which I have spoken to you while I was still with you, that all the things which are written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled. This division, the law, the prophets, and the psalms, was in reference to the Jewish canon excluding the apocryphal books. The Jews didn't recognize the apocryphal books. And the division of the Old Testament books from the blood of Abel, the blood of Zechariah, Luke 11:29, 15 to 1.
From that time, the first and last book of the Old Testament is what he's referencing there, and that's excluding the apocryphal books. And when he says the law of Moses, the prophets and the Psalms, that's a division of the Old Testament books, excluding the apocryphal books. And so Jesus says, these are the things written about me. in those.
So the other books he's not referencing. They are not considered scripture. The Jews did not consider them scripture. And also, if you go to Romans 3, verse 2, it says, greater in every respect, first of all, that they, the Jews, they were entrusted with the oracles of God.
So, Jesus did not authenticate any of the New Testament books even after his ascension. But he didn't he what he did do was he referenced the Old Testament books, and he believed in them the same as the Jews did, and there was no methodology that was described by anybody in the scriptures on how the Jews recognized the Word of God. They just did.
So there's no indication that the early church thought that the apocryphal books were on the same level as inspired scripture.
So that's it. And this is why they don't recognize don't recognize the Jews don't recognize the Christians don't recognize real Christians don't. The false churches of Eastern Orthodoxy, Roman Catholicism, and Uh The Ethiopian sect are bad.
Okay. So they teach false doctrines. They deny at least one of the very essentials of the Christian faith, which is justification by faith alone, in Christ alone. Maybe I'll just teach on that today, too, because there's nobody waiting right now. I need to go through that kind of stuff.
But that's one of the essential doctrines of the Christian faith. And there's also a doctrine dealing with the issue of idolaters not being allowed to enter into the kingdom of heaven. And so idolatry is condemned.
So you cannot commit idolatry. In fact, Huh. Uh Yeah, you know, I just thought of something. Yeah. I have.
I just thought of something here. Every now and then. What I'll do is I'll modify. I'll modify an article that I've been working off off and on for years. And uh it's the doctrine table.
And I'm going to go to it right now as I'm talking because... There are essential doctrines spoken of in the scriptures. A lot of times, people will ask me what the essential doctrines are when I'm debating the Catholics and Eastern Orthodox. They mock, full of mockery and condemnation and accusation, but they'll say, you know, you don't even have the Bible, you don't even know what the Bible is, really condescending. And they'll say, Oh, you've got the doctrines, you just think are your opinions.
And I say, No, the doctrines are talked about in Scripture. Let me give you an example of something. Jesus is still both God and man. That's John 1:1 and verse 14. But in.
In John 8:24, Jesus says, He says, Unless you believe that I am, you will die in your sins.
So, I was recently teaching to them about this, what the Bible says for essentials, not what I say, but what the Bible says. And they were actually quiet because this is what happens when the heretics are quiet, they're often just they never heard of this stuff before. That's what often happens. And so, I said, Look, Jesus says, unless you believe that I am, you will die in your sins. And so that's an essential doctrine.
You've got to believe he's I am. And we know that in the same chapter, John 8:58, he says, Before Abraham was I am. And they want to kill him for saying that.
So he's claiming to be God. It's an essential doctrine.
So here's another essential doctrine. That Jesus rose from the dead physically. This is out of 1 Corinthians 15, 14 and verse 17.
So, what we see there is Paul says, if Christ be not raised, our faith is in vain. That's what he says in 1 Corinthians 15, verse 14 and 17.
So that's an essential doctrine.
Now we also have the gospel as the death, burial, resurrection. And it says in Galatians 1:8, 9 that if we are an angel from heaven to preach to a gospel contrary to what we preach to, let him be accursed.
So we have an essential doctrine of the deity of Christ, his physical resurrection, and the gospel, which is the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ for our sins.
Now, also, there is one God, only one God, in all existence. Exodus 20, verses 3 through 5, was where God says, if you deny that, he'll visit the iniquity on your children. There's a curse, a problem with that view, with denying it. That's there. And Jesus says, you must be born again, otherwise, you can't see the kingdom of God.
So there's a warning there too, to be born again. That's John 3, 3. Also, Jesus is the only way to God. John 14:6.
Now, there's no explicit thing that you'll be darned, damned, whatever you want to call it, if you don't affirm it. But he says he's the only way to God, and nobody comes to the Father but through him.
So there's that negation. It's not possible without him. And then this one: salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Romans 3:28, Romans 5:1, Ephesians 2:8:9, Galatians 3, Galatians 5. I think what I'm going to do is focus on that a little bit after the break and go through why this is an essential doctrine, but I'll relate it to the false teachings of the Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches.
Alright, so I think I'm going to do that and we'll get to this other stuff about idolatry too because I think we might be able to make the case that idolatry is that you can't commit idolatry because it's an essential doctrine as well. All right, be right back after hiccups after everybody's messages. Please stay tuned. It's Matt Slick Live, taking a call at 877-207-2276. Here's Matt Slick.
Hello everyone, welcome back to the show. If you want to give me a call, it is so easy. All you got to do is dial 877-207-2276. And if you want to email me, you can do that as well. Info at carm.org, info at carm.org.
Put in the subject line, rate of comment, or rate of question.
Now, before the break, I was talking about the issue of going through some of the scriptures about About I think I'm gonna do that. About uh You can't have any works with salvation because if you do, you're damned.
Now, This is a critical doctrine because it's so natural to us to be able to think we can be good enough to please God.
Now, all false religions deny the sufficiency of the blood of Christ in and of itself, and the very act of the faith that God grants to you as being sufficient in order to justify you.
So, this is one of the things that is violated by the Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches. Yeah. Check this out. This is Galatians 3, verses 1 through 3. You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified.
This is the only thing I want to find out from you. Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law? Yeah. By hearing with faith, are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?
This is a condemnation. Of the idea of being saved by faith, and then you do things in the works of the law to be saved. And so this is condemned very clearly, very obviously, right there. And also, when you go to Galatians 4:5. Paul says in verse 2, Behold, I say that if you receive circumcision, Christ will be of no benefit to you.
Now what the Jews were doing back then was they wanted to be circumcised in order to complete what was required in order to go to heaven. A ceremony. And I'll talk about this issue with the Catholics, East Orthodox, because they'll say that baptism is necessary for salvation. And I say, well th you're adding a ceremony and they say it's not a ceremony. And I say, yes, it is a ceremony.
They say, no, it's not. They'd say it's a work of God. I say, is it a ceremony you go through? You want to find ceremony? And I asked them, Is circumcision the ceremony?
They say yes.
Well, then how come baptism isn't? because both were commanded by God. And then they're stuck.
So, what they're doing is adding a ceremony to salvation. And any kind of a ceremony added into the work of Christ is proclaiming the insufficiency of the blood of Christ.
So that's why he says, if you receive circumcision, Christ will be of no benefit to you. And I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, he's under obligation to keep the whole law.
So, the issue of the law, all of it, you know, he says you have been severed from Christ.
So, the issue here is that we are justified before God, saved. Maybe I'll collect a little bit more data for you after the caller and go through this a little bit more because this is something that's really critical and it's the basics of the Christian faith. It is. It's so fundamental. It's so necessary for you to understand this.
It's one of the basic doctrines of the Christian faith. And it is so critical. It is so important. But unfortunately, the. Roman Catholics and the Eastern Orthodox Church.
This is no lie. absolutely violate The essential doctrine of the Christian faith in that regard violate. They really do. Let's get to Oscar from New York. Oscar, there we go.
Oscar, you're on the air. Yes, sir. Um okay, I'm thinking about something. If a person is demonic possessed, does that mean that a person does not have a will, they cannot think upon Jesus or respond to God? Yeah, they they can they still have a will, they're still human.
They're still human. Yeah, so they they can still think and have a will, but it's just dominated by the demonic forces around them.
Okay, that that's what's going on.
Okay, now. People who are demanding possess. Oh, V.
Okay, are we demonly possessed because God allows it? Does God permit the demons to oh, okay, okay, okay. God permits it. Uh he permits people to be demon possessed. He permits it.
Nothing can occur unless God uh directly is involved or just permits it to occur. There's no accidents in the kingdom of God. A lot of people want to say that he's just sitting there with his hands, you know, hoping and, you know, hopefully, you know, come on, you can make it. No, he's the sovereign king. And.
So he permits it, all right?
Okay, thank you very much. I just I leave everything in God's hands. Uh there you go. That's always good to do. That's right, Ben.
All right, God bless.
Okay, thank you again. Bye-bye.
Okay. All right, so um Boy, look at that. There's so much stuff I got to fix. You know, I've been working on the site for so long, and there's just so many things to deal with. I've got to go through the Christian doctrine thing.
And just polish that article. I'm going to do that after the radio show.
Okay, now, so back to this issue here. Notice what um Notice that what Paul the Apostle is clearly doing, he's clearly doing, is that he is saying no works added to salvation. And if you do add it, Christ will be of no benefit to you. You foolish Galatians who bewitched you to think that that which has been begun in the spirit can be perfected in the flesh? All right.
So the Question here. You know what? I think I'm gonna do a little bit more. I think I'm gonna do a little bit more analysis here for you. I want to show you some stuff.
This is out of uh Romans 3.20. I'm going to go through this. It says this: By the works of the law, no flesh shall be justified in his sight, for through the law comes a knowledge of sin.
Now that statement is very critical through the law comes the knowledge of sin. Because sin is breaking the law of God, right?
Well, if he says don't lie and you lie, you've sinned. Don't commit adultery, etc. This is the moral aspect of the law. This is how he's defining it. Through the law comes a knowledge of sin.
By the works of the law no flesh will be justified.
Now we'll get into a justification as a little bit. But he says in verse twenty one now. But now, apart from the law, the righteousness of God has been manifested by being witnessed by the law and the prophets.
Now, that's the division, two major divisions of the Old Testament, the five books and everything else.
So he says, verse 22, even the righteousness of God through faith in Christ Jesus for all those who believe, there is no distinction, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified by his grace through the redemption which is in Christ. And he goes on in verse 28 of Romans 3:4. by faith apart from works of the law. apart from keeping the Ten Commandments. because through the law comes a knowledge of sin.
Sin is not the issue of the judicial move a stone here, a stone there, you know or it is the issue of the morality before God. That's what sin is, is breaking God's law, his moral law.
So See, says we maintain a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law. This necessitates apart from the Ten Commandments. And then he goes on, and he says in verse 30: God will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised by faith also.
Now he goes on to verse 4, not verse 4. Romans 4, he says this. I'm going to slow down here because this is really critical. This is something you need to understand. If you're a Christian, this needs to be preached periodically to understand something very specific.
Because when I go to the EO, Eastern Orthodox documents, and the Roman Catholic documents and read what they officially say, then you can understand why. Those churches preach a false gospel. False gospel. means they're not Christian. That's how bad they are.
and we'll get to that right after the break, please. Stay tuned for a bet. It's Matt Slick Live, taking your calls at 877-207-2276. Here's Matt Slick. Hello Revival, welcome back to the show.
If you want to give me a call, all I've got to do is dial 87720-72276. All right, now. What I want to do is I want to teach you something I want you to understand if you're a Christian out there listening. When you understand something that's critical to the Christian faith, this can make it or break it. This is heaven or hell.
It's that's how serious this is.
So, the issue here is salvation. Is salvation by your faith and your works, or is it by your faith only in God? in what Christ did. What is justification? And how is it achieved?
Salvation is being delivered from the righteous judgment of God. Guess what it means to be saved from his judgment? Justification. is a legal declaration of righteousness.
Now I'm going to show you this. Watch this. This is Romans 4, 1 through 5. on justification. What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather, according to the flesh, is found?
For if Abraham was justified by works, He has something to boast about. But not before God. For what does the scripture say? Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness. Notice it says Abraham believed God, it was credited to him as righteousness.
Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favour, but what is due. but to the one who does not work But believes in him who justifies the ungodly. His faith is credited as righteousness. Justification is the crediting of righteousness. And how is it achieved?
or received by faith. And what's really interesting is that God is the one who grants that we have that faith. Philippians 1:29. He says, To you it has been granted to believe. Also, Jesus says in John 6:29, This is the work of God that you believe on him whom he has sent.
So if you believe, it's because it's God's worked it in you, and you do the believing.
So, even the faith you have is from God. But it's also something you really do.
So this shows. That Everything necessary for your salvation is provided by God. He doesn't even leave it up to you in the wisdom of your sinfulness. He's the one who ordains. He's the one who opens the heart.
And.
In Acts 16, 14, God opened the heart of Lydia to believe the things spoken of by Paul. In Luke 24, 45, Jesus opened the mind of the Scripture of the disciples to understand the Scriptures. This is not commonly taught. But it is scripture. Justification is the declaration or the crediting of righteousness by faith.
What does the Eastern Orthodox Church say?
Now remember. Remember this. Salvation is being saved from the righteous judgment of God. That's what salvation is. All who are saved are also justified.
Salvation, being saved from God's righteous judgment, justified is being declared righteous according to the law. And how is that received? By faith.
Now This is what the East Orthodox Church teaches. This is Dosithius, Confession of Dosithius, done in 1672, Decree 13. We believe a man to be not simply justified through faith alone, but through faith which works through love, that is to say through faith and works. The faith which is in us justifies through works. That's Decree 13.
Here's Decree 3. Scripture promises the believer salvation through works. it supposes God to be its sole author.
Now, There's more like this from this this kind of uh Uh oh. false teaching in the in the East Orthodox Church. Just This alone means the Eastern Orthodox Church is not Christian. Just this alone, the denial. of justification by faith alone in Christ alone.
without the works of the law, and it absolutely contradicts the word of God. Therefore it is not Christian.
Now you may think, no, they're Christian, they believe in the Trinity and Jesus as God. Yes, they do. But they also deny one of the essentials of the Christian faith. And they also add idolatry, to their um They're heresies. And if you're an idolater, you cannot inherit the kingdom of God.
The Bible says.
So, this is not the teachings of God, this is the teachings of man. This is why I say very clearly. that the Roman Catholic I mean excuse me that the Eastern Orthodox Church is simply not Christian. Because it's not. Because it teaches a false gospel.
Paul says, if we or an angel from heaven should preach to a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. Are they teaching a different gospel? Yes, they are. Then there occurs. Is that that simple?
Yes, it is. That's why we've got to stick in the Word of God. What does the Roman Catholic Church say? In paragraph 2068 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, that all men may attain salvation through faith, baptism, and the observance of the commandments.
So you observe the commandments in order to be saved. This is just horrible stuff.
Now, check this out from the Catholic Church, paragraph 2036. The authority of the magisterium extends also to the specific person. Precepts of the natural law because their observance demanded by the Creator is necessary for salvation. Yet you observe the natural law, as paragraph 20, 36. And what is the natural law?
It's said to be the Ten Commandments. and that's out of their paragraph twenty seventy.
So, Roman Catholicism, like Eastern Orthodoxy, denies justification slash salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Each preaches. A false gospel. Therefore, these churches are not Christians. Christian churches.
And anyone who believes official doctrines, especially the doctrine of salvation, will be damned because they fall under the issue of being cursed. by having a false gospel. This needs to be taught from pulpits across America. Forget this ecumenicalism where we have to work with the Catholics and Eastern Orthodox in order to all get along, and we have differences, but it's okay. No, it's not.
Okay. They are false churches. All right. Let's get to Steve from Utah. Steve, welcome.
You're on the air. How are you, Barrett? I'm okay, just teaching biblical theology.
Okay. So, I have kind of a two-part question.
Okay. Was the canon created at the Council of Nicaea and was it Catholic driven? No, that's a lie. A lot of Catholics will, well, in a misinformation, they'll say that the canon was created by their church. They are the ones who did it.
Council of Nicaea got the books together and informed them, and they had the authority to do this, and that we Protestants take books out of the Bible. All these lies that are taught by the Catholics.
So, no, the Council of Nicaea did not deal with that. It dealt with a lot of noise in the background. I'm going to mute you because you got so much noise.
So, hold on. It was dealing mainly with the Arian heresy, the personal work of Christ, of who he was. The Arian heresy was saying he was just an angel and stuff. And by the way, I love saying this: the first council of Nicaea is underwater, the building's underwater, and the second council of Nicaea at Billing is still standing. And I've had the privilege of being able to stand in that very building, going over there.
So it was really nice. Thanks, Eric Johnson.
So, um Anyway, that's what's going on there. It's not an issue of just turning the canon there. The canon is simply recognized by the Christian church, not with its authority saying what the canon is.
Okay, Steve, you there?
Okay. Yeah, I got you. And I've got a third part here, too, that's kind of involved with it. And I think it's part of one of the apocryphal gospels or the Gnostic Gospel about John being boiled in oil. Yeah, it's a supposed to be a tradition that John was boiled and didn't die.
And uh so uh Because it's not in the Bible. Right, it's not in the Bible, and so it's just an early tradition. and the source is Tertullian.
So yeah, so is it true? We don't know. but it's just one of the early traditions.
Now, when we hold to, let me tell you something. There's something called sola scriptura and solo scriptura.
Sola, S-O-L-A, says Scripture is the final authority in everything it addresses, and we don't ignore tradition or councils or church fathers. We subject them to Scripture. Therefore, Scripture alone is the final authority.
Solo, S-O-L-O, means you don't even look at those things, you just look at Scripture alone. And that's all you consider.
So it's okay to consider traditions as long as they are judged by scripture. And so, did it really happen with John? I couldn't say it did. I could not say it didn't. But it just seems to be the tradition that was held by the early church.
So it's worth, you know, you could say, yeah, I accept it. That's not a problem.
Okay? Uh-huh.
Okay, yeah, I asked that because we gotta break. We gotta break. Hold on. We gotta break, Steve. We're gonna break.
Hold on. Okay, brother. We're gonna break. Heart break. We write back, folks, after these messages, please.
Stay tuned. It's Matt Slick Live, taking a call at 877-207-2276. Here's Matt Slick. Robin, welcome back to the show. If you want to give me a call, all I got to do is dial 8772-072276.
Let's get back on with. Steve, okay, Steve, brother, you still there? Yeah, yeah, so I just wanted to say something else. The only reason I asked that about John is the pastor in my church mentioned it, and he didn't. Say it came from the Bible.
He said it is said that. John was boiled in oil and was and came out alive. Is that a Okay thing to say in a Christian church. Yeah, yeah, he could say it as long as he would just say qualify it and say it's not scripture, but it's the tradition of the early church. And it's that's okay.
Okay. Yeah. All righty then.
Well, I appreciate your help, Matt, and you have a nice rest of your day. No problem, man. God bless.
You too. God bless.
God bless you.
Okay. Okay. Bye.
All right, now let's get to Jermaine from California. Jermaine, welcome, brother. You're on the air. Hey, Matt, I um I just wanted to revisit the debate that you had with a Mormon on the street, and you showed him. The history of the Mormon Church, the infamous quote by Joseph Smith, and the young man refused to look at it.
Now My question is, has anybody in your experience ever looked at that and been convicted enough to? question what they were in. Oh, I don't know because usually when I would show it to somebody, they um They would be shocked because it was more than missionaries, and then I wouldn't see them after that.
So I can't tell you what happened. But I remember once Excuse me. I remember once that um I try to remember this more details, but I, you know, back in Southern California, I saw so many Mormon missionaries. Like I said the other day, they were told not to talk to me. But I remember talking to one missionary once, and I told him, okay, this is how it worked.
Now it's coming back to me. And so I was having a meeting, I was a backup for a guy who had Mormon missionaries coming over, and I just sat there. And stuff. Oh, now that's a different thing. I'm combining memories now.
I just got that separated out.
Now I remember.
Okay. Two different things. I've done so many things. Anyway, uh, so um One Mormon missionary, when I met him on the street, said, Oh, you're the guy causing so much problems with the stuff you're doing, causing missionaries to leave and go home. And then his partner hit him.
You know, you know, you know, guys hit each other, dude, dude, like that. And the guy he kind of winced because he realized what he just said. He was encouraging me without knowing it. And so, yeah, people had left, and it does have an effect. Yep.
Okay. Okay,'cause I've I've only ever seen one or two guys and one used to be a bishop, a c his name is Casey now, and he Also, I was in shock and didn't believe. That quote when a, I guess, a young boy confronted, some kind of teacher, and a student actually confronted him and. When he actually looked it up on his own, that started him down the road of conviction and he left. And the reason I asked is I plan to do that same thing with.
with uh some Mormons I know. who are, you know, nice people and all, but I find that a lot of people are just generally unaware Of that particular quote in itself, and it's something that they just get convicted by. Yes, and they should be convicted by it. I've read it to and quoted it to. I can't even tell you how many Mormon missionaries I've talked to.
And now they're more. Ready for it.
Now they'll say, Yeah, and so what about it? You know, he said some dumb things, like anybody does. And they'll just kind of dismiss it. And I say, so you admit he said it? And they go, Yeah, but you know, he blew it like other things.
I said, So does a true prophet of God be Boast like this? That he did more than even Jesus to keep your chair together? And they don't want to answer any further because they just make themselves look even worse and worse. But yeah. It's a problem.
Film.
Okay, well the thing that bothers me about that quote besides the the audacity Is that wasn't Jesus' intent.
So you're really comparing something that wasn't. That wasn't the design, anyway. It's like, well, he was here. To die and pay for the sins, so of course he's not keeping a church together. It's just very silly.
Yeah, it is. It's just the arrogance of a false prophet. And Jesus says in the last days many false Christs and false prophets will arise and deceive many. Joseph Smith was definitely an example of a false prophet, along with Charles Days Russell, the Washtar Bible Attract Society. Muhammad.
There's just so many examples of this kind of failure. And it's so sad is because Mormons believe that they're in the true church. and that Joseph Smith was a true prophet. And they're when they die, I I just I j it just hurts my heart to think that when they die and they wake up facing God, they're they experience damnation for believing in a false God and a false gospel and a false prophet. It's it's so it's it's sad.
But that's what that's what's going to happen to him. Yeah. All right. Well, thank you, Matt. I appreciate you.
God bless you now.
Alright brother, God bless.
Okay. All right, now let's get to Cindy. From Ohio. Hey Cindy, welcome. You're on the air.
Hello. Um I wanted to know what it meant by Cam uncovered Noah's nakedness. There's been some discussions about it. One of them is that the condition of the father was to be respected and honored greatly. And uh that That he what he should have done is just covered his father up.
Instead what he did was he went and told his brothers. Hey, look at this, look how bad he is showing disrespect to his own father. And this is the reason he was in trouble for that.
So Noah got drunk. And Wasn't properly clothed, and any righteous son would have immediately covered him and done what was right and done proper, but the son didn't do that. Went in and got in trouble. And that's why. That's why they got in trouble.
Anything else you want to know about that?
Okay. Ham may have Slept with his mother and can I don't know. Why would ha why would Noah Um curse. Ham's son. Canon.
Okay. For the disrespect to the Father. Yeah. The honor. And I also heard, too, that it was a sin for.
a person to look upon their parents naked. I don't see that in Scripture per se. I don't see it in Scripture per se. But the issue here with Noah was that it was a dishonorable thing he did by. by exposing it to others.
So, you know, seeing your parents without clothing is not automatically sinful. Because what do you do if and I remember this, I remember my dad, for example, he had a a severe medical problem and you know uh he had to be taken into emergency, and I was the one with him, and he was out of it, and uh they had to Do stuff quickly, and there it is. There's everything, you know. He's without clothing, and you know, I just respectfully, you know, just looked aside, but okay, was that sin? No, because sometimes there are conditions in which certain things occur, so it's not automatically sinful.
The issue here is the intention of mocking and/or doing something in a degrading way about anybody else's nakedness, not just your parents', but anybody's.
Okay, that's So disrespecting them. Yes.
There's a great deal of you're obligated to respect your parents. To show that on the other hand. Um gossip too then, right? Yeah, oh yeah, you shouldn't gossiping. Yeah, he could say so.
He was spreading a rumor around. And gossip is a very serious thing that scripture condemns because it injures people. And a lot of people don't recognize that it injures people. You say things that are not true. And they can be injured in a reputation or varying ways because of the gossip that has been presented.
So yeah, it's bad.
Okay. All right. Well, thank you. You're welcome. And bless you.
You too. God bless.
All right. And you have a good night.
Okay, you too. God bless.
Right.
Okay. Well good. Let's get to Nelson from California. Nelson, welcome. You are on the air.
Hey, Matt.
Sorry, I got a little cold going on here. But question in 1 Peter chapter 2, I know we're running out of time. Verse 4, 5. And six, but um, just wanted to emphasize something that I just noticed, honestly. Yeah.
And then Jesus, of course, is the stone, the living stone, and then calls us the living stone. Can you explain what that means?
Well, it says coming to him as to a living stone, which has been rejected by men.
So, yeah, but his choice is precious. And you also, as living stones, yes.
So. This kind of thing by Peter is also spoken of in that we are a royal priesthood, but Jesus is the priest.
So he references us in relationship to Christ closely, so that as he's a living stone, we represent him as living stones. As he's the high priest, we represent him as priests as well. Not that we have garments and we offer sacrifices, but that the ministry and work of what we do as Christians, and this is how we are looked at by Scripture. And a lot of people don't know that. Yeah.
Yeah,'cause uh the first thing that came to mind was like what Jesus told Peter that, told him, maybe you can tell me what the Catholic Church rips out of context. Is Peter here also saying the same thing to us, what Jesus told to Peter? Uh oh. Do you what I don't understand? Let me see if I can he calls Peter on this rock I will build my church.
So is is that is that the same almost? Or no? No, it's not for us.
So that's out of Matthew 16, 18. It says you are Peter Petros. It's an O S ending in Greek, Omicron Sigma. And you are but upon Petra, it's Alpha.
So you are Petros on Petra. I'll build my church.
So a Petros is a small rock. Petra is a large mass of rock. It can't move. And so you are Petra, a small rock, and it's masculine form in Greek. And upon Petra, the feminine form, lost, it's a huge massive rock, the church will be founded.
And that is a reference to Christ because in 1 Corinthians 10, 4, the word Petra is also used specifically, it's called Jesus. And so that's what's going on there, but no, it doesn't apply to us in that we are otherwise. And and here when it says the stone, is uh w what what what word is that? Is that is there a word in Greek there or no? You mean in which verse?
In the living stone, what I'm saying. Oh, living stones. Verse 5 for us. Yeah, I believe it's lithos. Let me check.
Yeah, it's for lithoi. Yes, it's plural masculine form in Greek. It just means you're living stones. Yeah. Uh-huh.
Okay. Just rest.
Okay, just wanted to Check that out. Thanks very much, man. Appreciate it. All right, brother. All right, man.
God bless.
