This Memorial weekend, we think of days that changed our lives and I want to walk you through some scripture.
I've never preached this message before. And I want to walk you through some scripture and Give you some thoughts from the Bible.
Some of it may seem disconnected, but believe it or not, I do have a goal this evening. I want you to consider days. Would you bow your heads with me in an attitude of prayer? And can I ask you a question? As I never did this before until that one service, but.
Is there a soul here tonight that's been thinking about this thing of trusting Christ as Savior, and you've been wanting to get that thing settled? And you're not sure if you died right now that heaven's Your home, and you want me to pray for you, and I'm not gonna embarrass you, but would you raise your hand? I'm looking to my left and then center. Anybody at all that was, that's me tonight, would you pray for me? I need to trust Christ as my Savior.
I don't want to put it off another day. And then let me ask you a question, Church. Did you come expecting something great from God? Or is your heart challenged to be focused on being here and recognizing Jesus is wanting to do something special for you? Would you raise your hand and say, pray for me, that I would put aside the distractions and.
And focus on Jesus tonight. Anybody struggling with focus tonight? Amen. There we go. Me too.
So let's pray. Heavenly Father, I love you. And I do pray that you would please. Use this evening to be a special evening. This could be our last day.
Help me, Lord, speak as if this were my last opportunity. And help your people to hear. precious souls to listen to your word as if it were our last opportunity. to respond with obedience and we'll praise you for it in Jesus name. Amen.
So Psalm 90 in verse number 12, the Bible says, So teach us to number our days. How many of you learned, oh, too late in life how to budget? Anybody out there like that?
Okay, thank you for all your hands being raised. Budgeting doesn't come soon because you don't realize the value of it and we waste a lot of money.
Well, teaching us to number our days is an accounting term, meaning teach me to budget my days because they're valuable. I have wasted too many, and so Lord, I recognize the reality I must budget my life and make sure that I govern every single minute of my life. And so many times we do not number our days that we may apply our hearts to wisdom. The Bible says in Ephesians 5 and verse number 16, redeeming the time. Because the days are evil.
Colossians 4:5 says the same similar thing: walk in wisdom toward them that are without. And again, the phrase is redeeming the time. Redeeming means that you see value in it. You let somebody borrow your car and they completely destroy it and they return it back to you in a broken condition. Uh you i if it was a gift from your great-great-grandfather, And he passed it down to you and it was so precious to you, you wouldn't throw it away, but you would still see value and you'd restore it, right?
That's redeeming. You see value still in it. Redeeming says, I see value and I want you still. And that is the blessedness. And we have to actually look at our days and value them and recognize the value of a day.
We have two funerals this week. And how we regret One thing at every funeral. I wish I had given them more time. And the reality is that we kind of forget that, and Memorial Day reminds us of that value of life. 2 Peter 3, verse number 8, the Bible says, But beloved, be not ignorant of this fun thing: that one day with the Lord is a thousand years, and a thousand years is one day.
And my wife and I were talking about this on the vacation. I just threw this idea out. I know this is in a relationship to prophecy and timing, and be patient with the Lord's coming, but think about this: how does God value a day with you? For him, it's like a thousand. years.
It's precious to him. You say, well, I forgot God for a day.
Well, to him it's a thousand years. He values time with you.
So redeem the time or redeem the day. And think of that when you're thinking of wasting your life or wasting your days. Is that what God values is those precious days, laying up for yourselves treasures in heaven? I would imagine that if you're married, your spouse really appreciates every time you give them special attention and time. What do you think God is laying up in heaven when you give Him special attention and time?
That's treasure to Him. He values time, though He is timeless Himself. Psalm 84 and verse number 10, the Bible says, For a day in thy court is better than how many? A thousand spending that special time with God in those quiet moments, not church services only. But giving God special time in your days.
And it's better than 1,000. Outside of the presence of God. Colossians chapter 4 and verse number 5, the Bible says, Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, and again, redeeming the time, value that time.
So, I'm going to pass on a thought to you. This was not the main thought. The main thought is where I'm going. This is just a thought for you to consider. And Brother Frank got a spackling of this.
We get the chance to talk sometimes when I come by, and I dumped this on him a few weeks ago. The Bible says, and if you want to turn in your Bibles because that's too small for you, Exodus chapter number 20 and verse number 8, remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Everybody, read those yellow words with me if you can read them. Six days shalt thou labor.
Now, isn't it amazing? We always quote the Ten Commandments. We say, keep the Sabbath, but God says, work six days. I know, by the way, keep the Sabbath day. And I believe God set that up as an example.
Verse number 10, it talks about the seventh day as a Sabbath. Verse number 31: God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very what? What is that word? Very good. See, God does everything on purpose.
You know, Baptists argue about should we keep the Sabbath or not. I'm not preaching on what day to keep the Sabbath, I'm preaching on the doctrine of days. God said, Work six and rest. the seventh and Use his example because God wasn't tired. Amen.
The almighty God was not tired needing rest. How many of you have built something, repaired something, and you called people to look at what you finished and wanted them to see it? Anyone done that? Look at what I did: repair a car, rebuild a car, a building, whatever you want. Everybody to sit down and what does that do in you when you know you've done a job and it's well done and you love it and you're proud of it?
It gives you what? Satisfying. faction. See, God's example of the Sabbath was Don't let things build up and wait for New Year's to start a New Year's resolution. Work six days and then look back on the last six days and say, was everything I did?
Because God concluded every day and said, It was good, it was good, it was good, it was good, it was good. And on the seventh day, it gave him tremendous satisfaction. He observed it all, and it gave him tremendous satisfaction. He said, They're going to love this. This is amazing.
They're going to glorify me through this. They're going to see the heavens and the firmament. They're going to see the creation. They're going to love this. And it gave him satisfaction.
Can I challenge you with the thought of days? Can you look back on your six days? What you did in private. What you did in public, does it give you satisfaction in your soul? Does it truly give you rest in your heart to say, look at what I did.
I'm proud of that. Look at what I did, and it gives me tremendous rest. in me. Can I challenge you to think of your days and value your days, each one not saying I'm going to blow a day or I'm going to do this for a day, nobody will know or whatever, but live your days with that attitude of days are important, every minute is important. And at that end of those six days of work, I'm not going to wait 52 weeks.
But I'm gonna stop and I'm gonna look back. And I'm gonna say to the Lord. What don't you like? I'm proud of the good. And that's why it's a good thing to come to the house of God to be reminded.
Think about what you've done. and come clean about the things that need to be come cleaned about. And then claim the promises of his mercies anew every morning. And if we confess our sins, Own up, he's faithful and just to forgive us, he's willing to wash our feet, cleanse our hands and our hearts, and give us a new fresh start today. Isn't that a blessing?
But how often do we not let that process take place and motivation? to do that. Jeremiah chapter 2 and verse number 32. This is to me A heartbreak in my life. As I ask God the question in this verse, Jeremiah 2 and verse 32, can a man forget her ornaments?
Or a bride, her attire. The answer is no, okay? Unless there's something really wrong. Right? How many people are married?
How many people remember what your how many people out there what your wife was wearing on her on that wedding day? The lady doesn't forget either. She knows. And look what God says right here. Look at that.
Let that sink in. Yet, my people have what? Forgotten me. Days without number.
Now, think about that. Not weeks, not months, but God values every single day of your life. Teach us to budget our days. Teach us to value our days. Teach us to not let our days build up.
God, help us remember the importance of days. Isn't that a good thought? As I was thinking about this message, I'm not at the message. I've never preached what I'm about to preach in a minute, but this is a thought that I've shared these principles, but I want to be motivated. This could be my last day, and it's not just a sentence.
And this could be your last day. This is not just a sentence, but it's a reality. God, help me to remember this. Ecclesiastes 12 and verse number 1, the Bible says, Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, Well, I have no pleasure in them. What are they?
In the days that I forgot the Lord. When you forget God, every single one of those days where you put God aside and do what you want to do when you think no one's looking. Those are the days that you're going to say, I have zero. pleasure in the memory of forgetting God. And I hate every memory of every day.
That I was without God before I was saved at 21. I hate. The memory of my life, I wish I could forget it. But you know what's even worse since I've been redeemed? I got that brand new car God promised me, and I got that new life and that beautiful car.
It smells good and it drives good, but I got the doors dinged up. Real quickly, after I got saved, and then flat tires, and I messed up things in life. I'm thankful that I serve a God that promises to come in and renew my spirit, renew things on a continual basis. that the life he gave me is not broken eternally. But he has the ability to renew on a daily basis, on a minute-by-minute basis.
So teach me and what is it going to take? I have to remember him. I have to keep him in the forefront of my thought on a continuous basis, on a day-to-day, minute-to-minute basis. Let me give you a thought and you can take this home with you. Build an altar.
Build an altar. You see what I mean? See this picture of a Bible, and I know it's a candle, but you don't have to use a candle. I love candles. I always have a candle usually.
I still love the feeling of it. It's fun. And we live in Iceland. It's cold, so you know, don't, you know, hot people around here probably don't have candles burning in the summertime. Have a place where you have a table and a Bible.
And you have a private place. Because the Bible says in Luke 10 and verse number 39, and she Had a sister called Mary, who which also sat at Jesus' feet and heard his word. Verse 42, but one thing is needful. Mary hath chosen that good part which shall not be taken away from her. In this passage, Martha was working and Mary Sitting down listening to the word of God.
Martha wanted help and complained that Mary was doing nothing but sitting still. Jesus said, I'm not going to take it away from her because there's one thing that's needful. The word needful means you die without this. You can't survive. It's more important than oxygen, more important than water.
You can't live without this. Jesus said, one thing is needful. And what was the one thing Mary was doing? sitting at the feet of Jesus, listening. To his word.
That's life. Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. And give those time, give that moment to God, give every day. Budget into your life time for God on a daily basis, valuing the days, knowing God values the days, and He desperately doesn't want to count up a bunch of days that you forgot Him. Amen.
He loves you. He values time with you.
Every single day matters.
So, this is the message, this is a point that I want to bring out to you, and we're going to sing a little song. You ready? This is the day. This is the day that the Lord hath made, that the Lord hath made. We will rejoice.
We will rejoice and be glad in it. And be glad in it.
Now we don't have to go to the chorus now, but we chorus now. But we know that, right? This is the day, and I will rejoice in it. And we always point at every single day as if God made every single day. But as I was reading my Bible, I found the day.
that the Lord made. You see, since the fall of man, there has not been one good day. He said, redeeming the time because the days are Or what? Hi what kind of day you having? Every single day since the fall.
has been an evil day. Influenced by evil.
So what day is it that changed every day? What important day is it that is this day? And I want to show you. The day. Psalm 118, verse number 21.
I will praise thee, for thou hast heard me and become my what? What is that word? My salvation. This is Jesus, by the way, a prophecy of Jesus. Verse number 22: The stone which the builders refuse has become the headstone of the corner.
And all of us that have read our Bibles recognize that's prophecy of Jesus. Amen? That's a powerful thought. Psalm 118, and he says, verse 23: This is the Lord's doing. What is the Lord's doing?
That the stone is rejected. This is the Lord's doing. And in verse number 24, what does it say? This is the day. that the Lord hath made.
Now I want to bring you a little bit further and let you see that this day that he's talking about is the day. that Jesus died on the cross. And I think that you'll agree with me in a moment. And then I hope that we can take a journey to the end of this message. The days are evil.
God saw all days are evil since the fall. If you want to turn in your Bibles to Mark chapter 12, looking in verse number 1. Mark chapter 12. This is, of course, Jesus trying to teach his followers. A powerful message.
I'm wearing you too out. I just saw you tag out.
Sorry. I know this word.
Sorry. Mark chapter 12 and verse number 1. Jesus is trying to teach his disciples the principle and reflecting back on. Psalm 118. And he began to speak unto them by parables a certain man, as he began, a certain man planted a vineyard.
and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country. And at the season he sent to the husbandman his servant, That he might receive from the husband of the fruit of the vineyard. Verse 3. And they caught him and beat him and sent him away. Empty, verse number four, and he again he sent unto them another servant.
They loved his servants, by the way. Isn't it beautiful how they treated his servants? Anyway, they're so grateful that they, you know, this master, this lord owner, this guy who had a lot of money and gave him all this place and property and everything, gave him all the blessings. They didn't have to work for it. And they were so grateful that verse number four says again he sent unto them another servant.
and at him they cast stones and wounded him in the head and sent him away shamefully handled.
Now, these are the messengers of the guy who owns the place. You know, hey, fellas, isn't it time? Maybe I'd like to reap some of the benefits of this, my business. Verse number 5, and again he sent another, and him they killed. Wow.
And many others beating some and killing some. This has basically been life on earth. You know, Cain and Abel. God sending a prophet and the world killing him. This is life.
Days are evil and God's trying to reach this world and he gave you this world to glory, life in this place. It was all for you and he wanted you to learn of him. And this is life. And basically, this vineyard is your life and the place we're living in. Verse number six: having, therefore, one son is well beloved.
Now, all of us know that Jesus is talking about himself. Right? In this parable, he's talking about himself. The Creator gave us this creation, He gave us His life, and all of us abuse God. And God comes and says, Will you give me time?
Will you give me your days? Will you give me anything? Can I have anything from this? And we send him away. Abused?
Rejected. A man of sorrows who is acquainted with grief? Bruised for our you read Isaiah chapter 53. And that's exactly how God is treated. And so verse number seven, verse number six goes on, he says, Having one son, his well-beloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son.
Verse number seven. Those husbandmen said among themselves, this is the heir. Come, let us kill him. And the inheritance shall be ours. It's going to be my life.
I'm going to finally get rid of this. You know, some kids raised in church, they can't wait till they're old enough to make their own decisions to get rid of this. you know, strictness and all this restriction in life. I want to do what I want to do. You know, I can't wait to get rid of this burden and truly kill Jesus, you know, to kill this idea of Jesus in my mind.
And that's where some people are in life. And that's where some people end in life. But Jesus revealed the truth, and he said, But those husbandmen said among themselves, this kill him. Verse number eight, and they took him and killed him, cast him out of the vineyard. No, Jesus is talking about himself and what he's about to do, what the world is about to do to him.
But what mankind has been doing with God continuously. Verse number 9: What shall therefore the Lord of the vineyard do? He will what? Come and destroy the husbandman and will give the vineyard unto others. Verse 10: Don't miss this.
This is Psalm 118, verse 22. Don't miss this. This is the day. that the Lord hath made.
The day that the Son of God is rejected. and crucified. The Bible says in verse number 10, and have you not read this scripture pointing to the killing of the Son? He said, the stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner. Are you in agreement with me that the day that he's talking about in Psalm 118, this day when the stone was rejected, is talking about the day that Jesus was crucified?
Are we all in agreement? That day. is the day I will rejoice in. In fact, all of time. is centered around that centerpiece.
that before the beginning he planned that day. And that's the day that he rejoices in, as Hebrews chapter 12, verse number 1 says: that we look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy. that was set before him endured the cross. That's the day that's going to change. and should change every single day of our lives.
So we should quit wasting our days. Young people, if you're under 18, look at me. You're not under 18? Anybody under 18 over here? Raise your hand if you're under 18.
Okay. Please listen. I didn't see anybody over here. 18? 18?
Okay, just one, just kidding. And yes, sir, I got you in the back there. 18 again. Young people, listen to this. Don't wait.
to give God Some time. Not just sitting in church. Make an altar at home. Were you privately Passionately, purposefully read God's word to get to know Him.
So give God some time. Private time. Experience what it's like to talk to God in private about something and not tell anybody else. And have God answer your prayer openly, and you'll be like, no one heard me, but the one that was in that room. And that's God.
Learn to experience that. Andrew met Jesus and he said, Jesus said, I saw you under the fig tree. He was acknowledging. The only person under that fig tree was God. I was talking to God there.
That's my opinion. You want to have those kind of experiences when you have a daily walk with God.
Some of the parents here could use that as well. A daily Time. Where you give a budgeted time, not just once a day, be good a few times a day. Budget time to God. Value it.
Psalm 118, I'm almost done. Believe it or not. What time is it? Just kidding. Psalm 118, verse 21, I will praise thee, for thou hast heard me and art become my salvation.
We all agree that this is the day.
Next time you sing that song, think of that. This is the day. The day that Christ died on the cross is my day of rejoicing. Everything I do in life now circles around that day. Every decision that I make, Every conversation, everything I do is affected by that day.
And I'm going to redeem the time because the days are evil. They are not good days. And by the way, the day that the Lord died, I want to just put this in the plug. By the way, I hope to be able to share with you guys some fun thoughts this coming end of the year, maybe. on Passover.
The doctrine of this thing of the theme of Passover changed my life. The way I read the scriptures is a blessing now, and I see some things and I want to share it. I love to share it. And I can tell you what day that Christ died on the cross. Passover was always held on the 14th day of the first month.
Always, it's in the Bible. That's the way it was celebrated. Jesus at Passover week was started. It's called Memorial Week. Remembering the Exodus.
Remember you were delivered. Don't ever forget it. And it actually lasted 50 days till Pentecost, the 50th number of days. Pretty cool stuff. On the 15th day, Jesus would be buried.
at even During this week that we would call the Memorial Week of Deliverance.
So, this day that the Lord made is going to be on the 15th day of the first month. And all we only know that because of Passover. That's not my message tonight, but I sure hope and look forward to an opportunity to share some good nuggets from that. Luke 9, verse 44, the Bible says, Let these sayings sink down into your ears, let them sink in. How many of you are droning right now?
Young people, just kidding. I don't want it, don't be honest. Your minds are a million miles away, or are you thinking of something else?
Sometimes that happens. Jesus, as he was preaching, said, let these things sink down into your heart. Ears. Let it get into your head. And he said, For the Son of Man shall be delivered into the hands of men.
Verse 45, but they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them. That they perceived it not, and they feared to ask him of that saying. And we look back on the day that Jesus died, and I fear some of us don't understand what it meant. He tried to tell them before he died, I'm about to die. He said, Let these things sink into your ears, into your mind.
Get a grip on this. And he didn't get it. We're on this side looking back, and I think we don't get it. Salvation is not about a ticket to heaven. If he was just thinking about getting you to heaven, you'd go immediately.
Most of the time, when we think of, we look at Jesus dying on the cross, we say, I'm forgiven, yay. I get to go to heaven, yay! Is that all God had in mind when you think of the Exodus? Was it all that God had in mind was to get him out of Egypt and say, yay! See you later.
That day that Christ died on a cross should change your every decision-making. Your every interaction. every single moment of your life. That day should govern every day. It's not just about yippee-doo, I get to go to heaven.
Do you know what? It means when you get to go to heaven, you lose your opportunity to glorify God on this earth. Your opportunity ends. God wants you to monopolize your days, teach you to number your days, budget your life, glorify God, lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven. He values your day.
so that when you get to heaven, you'll have a lot of time. that you gave to him. I hope something in this message is speaking into your life, motivating you, as it motivates me, that days can't be wasted just like dollars. The Son of Man. Let it sink into your mind.
What does the death of Christ mean to you? Is it just a ticket to heaven or is it a mandate to live for God? Look at this, 2 Corinthians 5:14. I'm almost done. For the love of Christ constraineth us, constraineth us, constraints.
Constraints were like handcuffs locking you into a course. forcing you The love of Christ, His giving of Himself for your benefit. Motivates you, locks you, fixes you on a course. And the Bible says, because we thus judge. That if one died for all, then we're all dead.
Meaning we were all dead without hope. Verse 15. And that he died for the elect, some and only a few special people. I'm sorry, I quoted that wrong. What does it say in verse 15?
And that he died for.
So that means I should be living to get the message to every person on the planet. And I should recognize he loves me. Along the journey. Even when I get an offender bender. Even when I take that brand new car out for a spin, and well, it comes back into the garage a little bit.
Undone. And I have to look up to heaven and say, Renew In me A fresh spirit. Right? Renew my spirit. But at any rate, he says in verse number 15, and that he died for all, that they which live should what?
Should not henceforth what? live unto themselves. What is life? What is life but unto him which died for them?
So in Memorial Day, we point back to a day that should change the way we live today. If you look at Memorial Day, all those men that died and gave their lives to for us to have a life, and I fear that what they died for doesn't exist anymore. That we are so far away from what they had in mind. And we abuse the freedom doing stuff that makes, that matters not for eternity. The memorial of Jesus' death should motivate me to not live for myself, and we live day by day.
Amen? Life is days.
So can I ask you and challenge you to number your days? In conclusion, 2 Corinthians 6 and verse number 2. For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted. And in a day of salvation have I secured thee. Behold, now is the accepted time.
Behold, Now is the what?
Now is the day. of salvation. We say, I am saved. I'm going to heaven and I know it.
