It is! The JR Sportbrief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you to everybody tuned in and locked in all over North America. This is where I'm going to be for the next four hours. This is when this show gets started every single weekday at 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. I might be in Atlanta, a super producer and host, Ryan Hickey.
He's holding it down in New York City, wherever you might be in North America. I hope you are safe. I hope you are well. I hope you're good.
I hope you're smooth. Happy Tuesday, November 5th. I heard it was a big day today. Yeah, the NFL trade deadline.
Yeah, a couple hours ago it came and it went. It had some teams that made some moves to cement themselves as contenders or hopefuls. Then we just had some dumb ass teams just doing things that don't make no sense. Hi to the Dallas Cowboys. What else is new?
I mean, we got a lot of guests that are going to join us. How about this? In about 20 minutes, Frank Schwab is going to join us. Covers all things NFL for Yahoo! Sports.
How about this? We're going to have a former Pro Bowler, a Super Bowl champion. He's going to come through and join us.
He also bread and butter with the Lions. Llamas Brown is going to come through and join us later in the show as well. If you want to join the show, you can too. 855-212-4227.
That's 855-212-4227. You can find me online everywhere at JR Sport Brief. Not just a big day with the NFL trade deadline. We'll tell you about some of the bigger trades.
Well, I think pretty much all of them in a few minutes. In about an hour from now, we're also going to find out which college football teams are in the top 25 for the playoff rankings. This is not the AP poll. We know the tournament now or playoff is now 12 teams. Well, the NCAA is going to drop 25. This is the first rankings.
We'll be able to share that with you in about an hour when they go ahead and release them. Joel Embiid just got suspended. Keep your hands to yourself. Suspended three games without pay. It'll cost him about a million dollars or more. Nothing to him. Something to me. He can just give me the money.
I'll take it. And that reporter, I don't know. If I was a reporter, I'd be walking around in a neck brace right now. That reporter is a better man than I am. Well, maybe not.
He wrote about the guy's dead brother and son. I don't know. Hell if I know.
Last night, I walked out the studio. Kansas City kept on winning. Todd Bowles is catching heat. How about people just recognize that the Bucks just suck anyway? How about that?
Maybe he was just like, you know, whatever. Let's just get some extra football and see what we can do. What does it matter? We ain't going nowhere.
Both of my wide receivers in a training room. Who gives a damn if I go for one or two? Anybody think about that? Anyway, we have so much to get into. What a day. Hickey, you good? You having a good Tuesday? I am. I am so far.
Yes, sir. No complaints. I didn't get traded. You didn't get traded. That's right.
Which is good. I'm glad I don't want to change cities. That's sounds like a pain in the ass, to be honest. Would you have to change cities?
Would you? Well, I guess it depends who's trading for you. Yeah. National national show.
I don't know. You want to get traded? You want to get traded to LA?
Be a Dodgers fan now? No, I can't do that. I'll take the weather, but I can't.
Can't turn that allegiance. Why? You want to go to LA? You want to get traded there? Are you asking me out right now? Are you demanding a trade? Demanding? You sound like you're pretty demanding right now.
All these guys, the Brandon Iukes of the world, they all go on social media and act like grown ass babies. I don't got time for that. No.
Demanding a trade. You're a mature man. Yeah, I'm mature.
You just walk in office and say, hey, I want out. I was going to say, I got to be careful what I say here, Hickey. And none of that high school age, social media, this and that. None of that. Not at all.
You wouldn't venture down the cryptic route? Just like LeBron? That, you know, yeah. Some eyeballs here, some like, you know, zipped up lips, emojis there.
What do I do? Put eyeballs, zipped up lip emoji, airplane, microphone, peace sign. Right.
And then just send fans everywhere into a frenzy. Just, yeah, bye. Right. 50 Cent, shake my, no, that's too sad. Shake my head, walk away. I don't know.
There's a, there is that guy that does the peace sign and then he just fades, fades out. And maybe that one, I like that one. That's not used enough. Yeah. Yeah.
It was about 10 years old at this point. You know, you got to make it work when you can. But anyway, we're here.
We'll be hanging out. Thank you to everybody listening on the free Odyssey app, your local infinity sports network, affiliate Sirius XM 158. And if you've got a smart speaker, be smart. Don't lift the finger. Don't push a button.
Ask it to play the infinity sports network. Big trade. How about this?
Let's, let's run through a few of them. The lions, no Hutchinson going out for the season. They pick up Zadarius Smith. That was the first big trade that we got this morning.
How about not too long, right before the trade deadline even took place or right before the trade deadline. Tredavious White, no longer a member of the Rams, a former pro bowler for the bills is now a member of the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens trying to hook up their secondary, which is just getting gashed. The commanders, the shout outs to the commanders, man, who would have thought with a rookie quarterback, they'd be seven and two. They picked up Marshawn Lattimore. Like what, what used to do the saints have with him? Right. I mean, come on.
Not because there's anything wrong with him. This guy is one of the best corners in the game. This guy hasn't allowed a touchdown in single coverage in like three years, but the saints, we know they're going nowhere. Might as well get rid of somebody, right?
Save some cash here or there. And then the Dallas Cowboys traded for a wide receiver who's been in the league two years and really doesn't touch the football genius move by the Dallas Cowboys. Anyway, let's talk about one of the more impactful moves, a move that's made to help a team continue on its path to a super bowl.
That happens to be the seven and one Detroit lines, the same lines that went out into the cold and the rain and, and beat the Packers, the same team, the same lines that yeah, they lost Aiden Hutchinson. The man had seven and a half sacks was leading the NFL. And now they pick up a guy in Zadarias Smith who is, uh, he's quite familiar with the NFC North, having participated in play for the Green Bay Packers, had his career high for sacks about 12, 13 sacks a couple of seasons ago. Well, now he's back. He's no longer a Packer. He's a lion. This news broke earlier today, courtesy of CBS sports HQ.
Listen to this. Well, it's a busy day. We got breaking news in the NFL trade deadline day gets off to a fast start this morning. The Browns have traded their address churches, Darrius Smith to the Detroit lions. Smith has been a prime target this year's market and fills a hole for the lines with Aiden Hutchinson, of course, possibly done for the season with that broken leg Smith registered five sacks for the Browns before the deal. He's the 10th season. They are currently in the NFL. He has 63 when it comes to his sack numbers and maybe more coming now, heading to the big D with the lions contending for a Superbowl this season. Yeah, he got five sacks.
It's good. He's a veteran. He's 32 years old. He's been around the block.
You ain't replacing Aiden Hutchinson, but you can certainly bring on somebody who can go out there and help you out. And this is a shock. This is a surprise.
I told you the Washington commanders, they landed in one of the best corners. Someone who's been one of the best corners in the game, a four time pro bowler, a defensive rookie of the year back in 2017, Marshawn Lattimore. It's going to be crazy to see him in any uniform. That's not a saints uniform.
He's going to be suiting up for the commanders. They're seven and two. What, what a difference an owner makes about this. You think if Daniel Snyder was still running the team that they, well, let's be real.
They, they wouldn't be seven and two in Rappaport. He talks about how they got their hands on Marshawn Lattimore. This was on the NFL network. The Jayden Daniels window is wide open for the commanders and they swing a big time trade.
Here are the details. It is multi-year pro bowler Marshawn Lattimore, whose name has been included in trade discussions. It seems Tom for more than a year, he now goes from the new Orleans saints to the Washington commanders. Here are the terms new Orleans gets a third round pick, a fourth round pick and a future six. That was from the Hassan Ridgeway Ridgeway trade. Meanwhile, Washington gets Marshawn Lattimore, who is a great player with a very low salary and a 2025 fifth rounder.
That is the full terms of the trade. My understanding is there were several teams in the mix, including the Kansas city chiefs, including the Baltimore Ravens. There were a couple other teams, but the reality is the commanders came in with a bigger offer than all of it was close, but the commanders came in with a bigger offer.
Yeah. You heard about the Ravens at the end. Couldn't get their hands on Marshawn Lattimore ended up with a receipt. Well, not a receiver, a defensive back. Who's dealt with a blown out ACL of messed up Achilles and Tridevius white. All my listeners in Buffalo know about Tridevius.
Well, now he is a member of the Baltimore Ravens. Yeah. These, these are teams competing, competing to win. Yeah. They're trying to win something.
I mean, even the Steelers, the Steelers are trying to win, right? Been trying to pick up a wide receiver since the summertime, taking a look at Brandon Iuke. That didn't work out.
Did it? Cooper cup didn't move at the trade deadline. I guess Sean McVay was telling the truth. We're not moving this dude. Deandre Hopkins. We saw what he did last night for the Kansas city chiefs.
He didn't move. And so who the hell do the Steelers end up pairing with George Pickens, Aaron Rogers, favorite wide receiver, the guy who can't run the right route, the guy who got thrown under the bus by Aaron Rogers, Mike Williams. Congratulations, Mike Williams, the newest member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Let's see if he can recreate anything. Half of what he did with the charges, ironically, or maybe on purpose, the trade went down while Aaron Rogers was doing his, uh, what do we call it?
Hmm. He was making money saying a whole lot of nothing on Pat McAfee and Aaron Rogers. He had some nice words for Mike Williams.
This is a first time publicly. How about this? Yeah. Mike's a quiet guy. Just kind of goes about his business. Um, you know, Mike, uh, had a rough injury last year that, uh, ACL it's tough to come back from any work his ass off all off season. Wasn't around for a lot of training camp.
He's working on side. Um, but I felt like, you know, he was getting better, uh, throughout the, the early part of the season when he was, uh, you know, it felt like his speed was getting better and he was feeling more comfortable with it. That's a tough injury.
I had that injury. Um, and it's the mental part that, uh, takes, it takes the longest, but, you know, Mike's good guy. Um, it'll be, uh, he'll be good in that locker room. Obviously got a lot of great veteran leadership. He's, he's had a nice career and sometimes change of scenery is, uh, is, is great for, uh, uh, great for certain guys. You know, we kind of knew with, with Devante coming in that, uh, there'd be less targets for everybody because, you know, G's leading league and targets, he's gonna get his targets and days dynamic players in his target. So, um, if this gives Mike a more opportunities, that's awesome.
And, uh, and we wish Mike well, it doesn't sound like Aaron Rogers is going to miss him. What does he, is he the, I know, I know he's the boss of the New York jets. Why, why is he talking like he's the mayor Hickey? Why is he talking like he's the GM of the team? Who is this guy? Cause he's trying to hide that he's the Gestapo.
Oh yeah. This guy is, does he, is he playing with the strings or does he have his hand up somebody's backside? Ooh, probably handed the backside because he doesn't want to be the mouthpiece.
He just wants to look like he's innocent. Right. And everything else is moving without his control when we know.
In fact, that's not the case. He's like, uh, the thing from the wizard of Oz, the big voice and a nothing behind the curtain, right? Like exactly right. What a guy and New York jets. Ain't doing nothing and good luck to the Steelers. I hope Mike Williams balls out and I hope he scores a touchdown, looks at the camera and curses out Aaron Rogers. That'd make my day.
That'd be cool. Anyway, at least the Steelers are going to the playoffs. The New York jets probably are not. This team definitely isn't why they decided to trade for a wide receiver.
I have no idea. You know, I just told you about a bunch of contending teams, right? The Steelers, the lions, lions of Superbowl contenders, uh, the commanders are shocking everybody with what they're doing. And then you got the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones sat around and say, yeah, we, we going to be buyers with three and five. They traded for Jonathan Mingo.
You're not familiar with the guy understood, understandable. The man has been in the league for two years. Last year, he had 418 yards receiving no scores in this year for the Carolina Panthers, 12 catches for 121 yards, no scores. And so if you've never seen this guy catch a pass in the NFL, if you haven't seen a Panthers game in the last two years, I think everybody understands. And the Dallas Cowboys, well, damn it. They traded they traded for this guy in exchange for a fourth round pick Kansas city.
Didn't do that for Deandre Hopkins. The Dallas Cowboys are smoking that good stuff. You take your pick. Who's smoking? What? Well, they ain't smoking anything good.
It's damaging their brain cells. Mike Garofalo. He was on rich Ozzin show and he talked about why the Cowboys that are going nowhere would bring in a wide receiver in exchange for a fourth round pick.
What? I mean, they really like him and, you know, for the, in their mind, they're saying, well, we would have drafted them way higher than the fourth round. So why not give up a fourth round pick for him? And a lot of folks around the league might look at that and say, that's a little much for a guy whose production really hasn't been up to expectations to this point. So listen, if he pans out with the Cowboys and he, and his, his production goes way up and he is what they thought he was and maybe a fresh start would be a good thing for him. It's really hard. That's why the Deontay Johnson thing was so hard as saying, well, this guy is a potential hundred catch thousand yard type guy. The numbers just aren't going to be there in Carolina. So it was actually impressive for him in what he was doing there.
So you got to kind of grade on the scale. If you're the Cowboys and you like what you saw from Mingo and you believe that he is going to be a guy who was going to take off in your offense. All right, maybe he will, but a new sucker is born every day. And the Dallas Cowboys have been suckers for quite some time. So in a land of competitors, real legitimate Superbowl teams that are trying to go to the playoffs and beyond the Dallas Cowboys end up being suckers.
Congratulations. The lions getting the past rushing help that they need. Congratulations to the commanders, bringing in a cornerback. Congratulations to the Ravens going out there doing the same thing. The Steelers. Yeah, they got a wide receiver going to get some targets here.
And Mike Williams, Aaron Rogers hated that guy. And you got the Cowboys. Congratulations to the teams actually making smart moves. And then thank you to the dumbass Cowboys for being entertaining. It's the JR sport brie show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27.
That's 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. We're going to take a break. When we come back on the other side, we will have a conversation with Frank Schwab from Yahoo Sports covers all things NFL. We'll get his thoughts on some of these trades that took place. What made sense?
What did not make sense? And then we'll see what this means for the rest of the season. Frank Schwab from Yahoo on the other side, you are listening to the JR sport brie show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. You're listening to the JR sport brief.
It is the JR sport brie show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Big day today, right? Big day.
Still a big day. NFL trade deadline. It has come.
It has gone. Got some names that have moved on to contending teams. We got a team going nowhere, bringing on a wide receiver that cost a lot to talk about what the Lions have done and the Ravens have done and the Steelers and more joining us right now is someone who covers all things NFL for Yahoo. It is Frank Schwab. Frank, how are you, man?
Thank you for taking the time. Doing well. Doing well. How about you?
I'm very well. When you take a look at all the trades that took place today, is there any trade that actually surprised you? I wouldn't say surprised. I mean, the coverage trade for Mingo was just totally bizarre and off the wall because I don't, you know, I get it. Mingo's a young guy. He's cost control, all that kind of stuff. You know, he's got some future ahead of him, but the fact that Jonathan Mingo went for a higher price than DeAndre Hopkins or Deontay Johnson is just, pulls my mind.
I mean, Jonathan Mingo by just about every single analytical measure has been one of the worst receivers of football. So yeah, that was a surprise. There's no doubt about that.
Nothing else completely completely crazy. I don't think, you know, we kind of built up a deadline day, you know, a lot of deals are going to happen, but the fact is the deals have been happening for weeks now, and we're just finally, you know, settling in and, you know, most of the teams already had already made their moves, whether it was the Chiefs or whatnot. So yeah, no big, crazy move today.
Frank Schwab is here with us from Yahoo. We saw early this morning, the Lions did go out and get some pass rushing help in Zadarius Smith, but we know that there is no replacing Aiden Hutchinson and what he's been able to do. Seven, seven and a half, eight sacks in the early portion of the season is Zadarius. This is a better option and not bringing in anybody, right? That's the whole thing.
Yeah. If you, if your only bar for success on, for the Lions at the trade deadline was replacing Aiden Hutchinson, well, that wasn't going to happen. There's nonsense about like, oh, well, Max Crosby or Miles Garrett, like, those guys aren't going to trade us.
What are we talking about? Like, they're probably not trading Miles Garrett, but that's just silly. So what did the Lions have to work with?
Who could they go get? Zadarius Smith was out there and that's what happened. I still really, truly don't understand why Chase Young is not a Detroit Lion right now, but the Saints are the Saints.
We don't really know what they're doing half the time. So, that made no sense to me, but they got some pass rushing help and it's, like you guys said, it's better than sitting pat. Like, yeah, just because you can't land a one-for-one replacement for Aiden Hutchinson doesn't mean you don't do anything. I thought this was a perfectly reasonable move. I thought it was smart for the Lions. I think it gets them closer to, you know, the number one seed being the best team in the NFC, maybe making a Super Bowl. Obviously, like, again, don't replace Hutchinson, but, yeah, they're a pretty good player and that's, you know, that's not the goal of what you do at the trade deadline.
Absolutely. Well, Frank, you didn't mention the Saints and we know Marshawn Lattimore is moving on onto the commanders, but the Saints, they have plenty of players. You talk about Chase Young, you know, Cam Jordan, maybe not necessarily move his veteran status. Why do you think the Saints, for what they did yesterday, why don't, why don't they go all out? I just think it's a trash organization at this point, to be honest.
Like, they don't know what they're doing. They, you look at the salary cap hits that they have coming up just to be mediocre. Like, they're not, they weren't chasing a Super Bowl, really.
They keep pushing all these cap hits to the future to go, try to go nine and eight. Yeah, it was just a mess before the season started. It's a mess right now. They have a long way to go and they just refuse to look in the mirror and say, we're a bad team. We need to just tear it all down and, and just take that, take our L's and start again. There's no leadership there. And they're going to be in a bad way for a long time. And they have the inactivity at the trade deadline, like extending Alvin Kamara, basically taking them off the trade market.
What are you doing? Well, what's the point of that? Well, what's the point in holding onto Alvin Kamara, who at least 29 years old right now, maybe even 30, could have helped a contender. But you just, what, decide to extend him? For what reason?
He's not going to be good by the time you're good again. Stuff like that just makes me shake my head and wonder who's in charge of New Orleans? Is there any voiceover project in the whole organization? I just think that they've screwed up many, many things on the trade deadline. It was just one of them.
Frank Schwab is here with us from Yahoo Sports. Do you think that's a matter of Mr. Benson being gone and family? It has to be all the way at the top, no?
Yeah, it really is. I mean, at some point, somebody in that room should have practically just said, we need a different direction. What is our direction? And they have none right now. They're just, they've been mediocre for years. They've been chasing mediocrity.
Nobody seems, again, to want to admit they're mediocre. So that's a problem in itself. And yeah, it goes all the way to ownership and everything else. Now, you know, they fired the coach on Monday and that's probably a step that had to happen. I mean, you got to do that, but what's the point in firing your coach if you're not just going to commit to change, right?
Like that's just cosmetic at that point then. So yeah, just, I wasn't surprised with the coach or with the things not doing much at the trade deadline, but definitely disappointed just because I think I think their fans deserve better. Their fans deserve somebody to kind of take charge and lead a different direction for that franchise.
You talk about franchises with new ownership. I mean, the place where Marshawn Lattimore is right now, the commanders with the rookie quarterback are seven and two. Jaden is lighting it up. Their offense is top five, almost three in the entire NFL. What are your thoughts on these commanders and what they could do the rest of the way?
Yeah. And I thought the, I mean, I guess I haven't ranked them yet, but off the top of my head, the best move of the trade, the entire trade season was the Marshawn Lattimore move because it's not just for the now it's also for the future. This commander's team has a lot of flexibility with whenever you have a star quarterback in his rookie deal, which they're going to have for a couple of years, you can make expensive purchases. Let's say Marshawn Lattimore is not going to be cheap, but he's a really good player. They didn't give up that much to get him.
I mean, highest pick was a third rounder. That's reasonable. And he helps them immediately in their second area with their biggest need. And he helps them in the future too. So when you start checking boxes for what's a smart trade, that one did it all. It wasn't cost prohibitive, helps them out, helps them in the future.
It doesn't change any other plans in the future. So kudos for that A plus for them. And you start looking at this team and yeah, there is some doubt in the back of everybody's mind. Look, I was high in the commanders this off season.
I have the receipts. Like I kept saying, this could be a playoff team this year. This could be a really big surprise team this year. I didn't expect them to be this good. I didn't expect them to compete for NMC East title, but here they are.
And yeah, I guess a half season isn't a huge sample size, but it's not a small one either. At some point, you just have to say this offense is super efficient. The defense is getting better every week because Dan Quinn's a great defensive coach.
Why can't they win the East? I think the Eagles are going to win the East. I just think they're a little bit better team and the commanders are kind of a year away from that jump, but yeah, there's no reason really to doubt the commanders at this point.
They are who they are. They are one of the NFL's better teams. And I don't think they're going anywhere just because again, well coached, star quarterback, a team that believes in themselves, has a lot of confidence, a lot of momentum. There's a lot to like about where the commanders are right now. And Frank Schwab is here with us from Yahoo Sports.
It's the JR Sport Reshow coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. You talk about a team, they're always there. They always win. They're always in the space of going to the post season. I'm talking about the Steelers. They were able to pick up Mike Williams for the Jets. They bring in Preston Smith on a defense.
Incremental moves. This is typical Steelers. They missed out all the big names. Yeah, that's disappointing for them. I guess that, you know, you look back and you're like, why didn't, why didn't they give the Titans a little more than the Chiefs did for DeAndre Hopkins? That seems like a much better fit to me than Mike Williams who has, I believe it's 12 catches for 166 yards all year.
Like, looks like his body is just kind of broken down at this point after all the injuries. So you look back and you say, well, yeah, why didn't, why didn't they give? I think they got DeAndre Johnson back, right?
Because of the trade rules. But there are other options out there that would have been better than this. But I still think that the Steelers are just that organization that they push a lot of right buttons and they deserve the benefit of the doubt. And Mike Tomlin is going to get everything he can out of his team. I didn't expect, I didn't expect Steelers to be good this year, but they're really good. And they're not, they're another team.
I don't think it's going anywhere. That tough schedule we thought they had at the end of the season, they're not looking tough anymore. The Cleveland Browns being bad, with the Cincinnati Bengals not being as, maybe as good as we thought. So you look at it now and you say, yeah, that the Steelers probably needed to do a little bit more than they did, but they did what they could.
They, they, they got some help. We'll see if Mike Williams pans out like they hope because they do need some help with the receiver position, but the rest is looking pretty good for the Steelers. And I don't really think a lot of people had faith that they'd, including me, faith that they'd be, you know, leading the AFC North at this point. Well, Frank, you talked about a lot of the trades that took place the weeks before the trade deadline. You mentioned DeAndre Hopkins.
We saw his two touchdowns last night against the Buccaneers. What team do you think actually took a legitimate step forward in becoming more competitive, increasing their chances of winning a championship? Out all the teams that have made trades over the past month or so.
That's a good question. I probably, I'd have to say the commanders. Like I, I go back to that and you say, you know, with the Lions, yes, they made the move they had to make, but that did come, you know, after Aiden Hutchinson leaves. So they were just filling that gap and the same goes for the Chiefs and Rashee Rice and DeAndre Hopkins. So a lot of the moves were almost reactive where, you know, okay, we lost this guy. We need to replace him.
Let's go get somebody. Whereas the commanders just added a really, really good star player to their secondary, which was a big need. So I think the answer has to be the commanders, but a lot of these contenders made what I think are pretty smart moves. I think the Ravens getting DeAndre Johnson for free, literally for free. Like, I mean, when you're talking about a lay around pick swap from the fifth to the sixth, a late fifth, early sixth, we might be talking about like a difference of 12 picks that they gave the Carolina Panthers to get DeAndre Johnson, who literally wakes up and he's wide open.
Like he's one of those guys that just gets open in his sleep. Like, I don't understand why he was so cheap for the Baltimore Ravens and, you know, some like that, that the move is going to pay off and everybody by the end of the year, when the Ravens are sitting there, probably AFC North champs is going to say, how did the rest of the league let DeAndre Johnson go to the Ravens for free? And yeah. Why?
I don't get that. So I think that the Ravens definitely help themselves commanders, but a lot of the, a lot of the contenders did well for themselves in this trade deadline. I think that, you know, I think there's, there's few moves that I look at and I say, wow, that's egregious and dumb other than maybe the Cowboys and Mingo, where, you know, a lot of these teams just made pretty smart moves that don't, you know, don't mortgage anything for the future, but make them better in the, in the present. Last question for you, Frank, are you favoring these Kansas City Chiefs to three P?
Not at the moment. I think the Lions are the best team in the NFL. And if you're just saying like, you give me the chiefs of the field, I got to take the field.
Although it's, it does at some point become this game of how do you beat the chiefs? They got the best coach. They got the best quarterback. They have a defense that's absolutely stellar. You see these games like last night and you just say, how do you beat these guys? Maybe by going for two Todd bowls, but it's yeah.
Look, the cheese are great. They could win those two. Well, it wouldn't surprise anybody, but I'd have to pick a field. And specifically, I think Lions are the best team right now, but yeah, it's, you know, going against the chiefs is always kind of a dumb idea.
I'm sure they're going to make me feel dumb in February when they're just winning it again. Oh, well, we'll find out soon enough. Hey Frank, where can people follow you in all your work with Yahoo? Yeah. Best places on Twitter, formerly X or X formerly Twitter at Yahoo Schwab or the, you know, one of the best places are inside coverage podcast, three times a week, Sunday night, Wednesday, Friday, we talk about all things NFL. So yeah, lots of stuff going on at Yahoo.
It's been a fun season and it's going to just get better from here. Hey Frank, thank you for the time. We'll catch you down the line. Okay. Absolutely.
I appreciate it. No doubt about it. That Frank Schwab covers all things NFL for Yahoo sports. It's the JR sport.
We show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. I don't think Frank has to worry too much if the Kansas city chiefs end up repeating, three peating. And I mean, damn, I don't think anybody looks stupid.
I think we all would, uh, would, wouldn't be surprised par for the course at this stage. 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. That's 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. We are going to take a break. We come back on the other side. You know what? Let's get into those Kansas city chiefs because last night they won another game. They became eight. No, they knocked off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Buccaneers had a chance to win the game and said, nah, we'll just extend the game and give Patrick my homes.
The ball did not work out in their favor. We'll get into that on the other side of the break. At the top of the hour, we'll stay tuned for the college football playoff rankings, the official college football playoff rankings. And then we'll talk about the commanders as well. Cause I still can't believe I got went from college to the NFL and he has a team at seven and two.
We have a lot to get into. It's the JR sport re-show on the infinity sports network. You're listening to the JR sport brief.
It is the JR sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. I'm I'm retired, man. I, I am not running. I'm not chasing. I'm not being physically competitive with anybody. I am.
Days are over. If I'm moving, it's for, it's for life to keep the joints and muscles loose and limber. I am not running around doing anything. Hickey. When's the last time you, uh, besides some old ladies beating you in pickleball, when's the last time you got out here and did something I don't know, competitive to find doing something like not going to the gym, but like playing a sport. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know.
Get, get a rebound, hit a home run, steal a base. I don't know. Too long.
Oh, actually I got an opportunity a few months ago to, to have batting or go to batting practice at city field, but take a few cuts myself. Yes. It was bad.
It was really bad. Oh, I didn't know. You didn't tell me you did this. Really? Oh yeah. Before the show one day.
No, you didn't tell me. Yeah. Family. Friends are like season ticket holders. They couldn't go. Uh, they asked if we wanted to go.
So we're able to get my dad and I went nice. They throw like BP on the fields. So I was coming in at what, 45 miles an hour. You whiffed? I whiffed a few. I actually whiffed a lot more than I would like to admit.
It was bad. How many hats did you get out? We did two rounds.
It's like two minutes each. So I would probably guess like 40 to 50 swings. You had 40 to 50 swings out there? Yeah. And you made contact how many times?
I would say, let's just say if it's 40, I would say about 30, 30 to 32. Wow. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
You made contact 30 out of about 40 times? Yeah. Oh, that's good, man. That's good. They're meatballs. No, that's coming in slow. Basically on a tee. And I hate to say it too. There are a few foul balls that went straight up, straight up, straight down. 30 out of 40 is good.
It was bad. That's good. I'd probably do. I don't know. I'd be hitting the ball foul, man.
I don't know. Nobody could take nothing away from me. I did birdie Williams, his game. I did two years in a row. Last year.
I got a hit this year. I got nothing. So in my mind, I am one for two.
Okay. And maybe most importantly, you left in one piece. I did my, my knees work.
Nothing hurt last year. My knees were killing me afterwards. I'm like, man, what am I doing? They make me play. They made me play right center. I'm like, come on. I'm like, come on. I'm sure you got some big boppers there too. They can hit the ball a mile.
Yeah. Because I look like I can move and run. I look like it, but man, I ain't trying to run anywhere. That's the most running I'm doing on grass.
Like all year long. I don't want to do that. Stick you at second base and call it a day. No, no, no, no. The ball too fast. No.
So where do you want to be? The bench? The catcher? Catch some of those lollipops coming in. Most people ain't hitting the ball to, uh, to right field.
I can, I can get the ball in down the line pretty easy, but, uh, you know, whatever. How about next year? Oh my God. It's Shohei Ohtani undergoes surgery to repair the torn labrum in his left shoulder.
Oh my hickey. How many more arm surgeries is this guy going to have? Hopefully for the, the, um, Dodger's case is the last one, but man, not well, is this one important?
I guess everyone is important, but, uh, wow. Well, this one I'm assuming right. It's from the separated shoulder.
Then this is different from the one that he just had, you know, I mean, well, Tommy John and this is what his second Tommy John second Tommy John. Oh my God. And they say, this is a, uh, a minor procedure that Shohei Ohtani underwent a Shohei Ohtani had surgery Tuesday to repair his shoulder after partially dislocating it during the world series, the Dodgers just announced the arthroscopic procedure to repair a, a labrum tear. It was a torn labrum. Okay.
Wow. The, the Dodgers said he's expected to be recovered by spring training. Oh man. Hickey, is he going back to Japan? Like what is he doing? He just staying in LA in a cave all, all winter. Like what's he doing? Of course.
He's got to recharge, right? What else are you going to do? What's he going to do at home?
Nothing. Yeah. I mean, he could play baseball on both sides of the Pacific, I guess. Right.
Or rehab. I'm sure the Dodgers said, Hey, you're not playing for a while now. I just want to see him outside. Can, can we get that? Like not at the parade, not at a baseball themed event.
I need to see short Hickey. Have you seen this guy eat? Have you seen him sitting outside? Like you ever seen him have a sunflower seed? Not even TMZ has gotten them, which I mean, that's just an impressive level of, of just hiding out.
How do you hide in Los Angeles? I mean, besides sitting in traffic, I w he's different, man. I don't think we've ever had a superstar in North American sports. Who's been able to just hide. And I get it different culturally.
He comes over from Japan, you know, like we got plenty of players, Hideki Matsui. Hickey, why do I know this? Cause I read it.
He had an extensive adult video collection. Do you hear about that? No, I didn't. Not really. Wow. Yeah. Go, go ahead.
Google it on the work computer. Go ahead. Bosses. Jared told me to do it. He said it was safe. Yeah.
Go for it. Wow. He liked, uh, interesting. Okay. Yes, he did.
I helped get him in the zone, I guess, for, uh, some big games. Yeah. Well, one of the world's helped the Yankees win the world series. That's right. That's right. Yeah. Each hero, each hero was full of personality, right?
So just because you come from a different country doesn't mean that you can't have a personality, but you would think Shohei is in America and witness protection. It is just, uh, I need to see him outside. I need to see this man.
I've never seen an athlete that I'm like walk the dog or something, right? What does he have? The big, we don't even know where he lives. TMC knows where everybody lives and how much the house costs and what the blind seller looks like.
And Shohei Ohtani, I bet she doesn't even have furniture in his house. Just a badge. You think it's a TV? Well, I don't know. A giant computer that he can, I don't know. When he wins his awards, they can, you know, zoom him in. I don't know.
I don't know. He sleeps and plays baseball. What a guy.
Yeah. He needed surgery on that arm. Good luck to Shohei Ohtani. Not that he needs it. Guy will be back next year.
We'll probably go, I don't know, 34 home runs, 30 to 40 home runs, 15 starts and help the Dodgers win another world series. It's just, uh, I didn't know he could have more surgeries. He's just a freak of nature. Anyway, speaking of a freak of nature, Patrick Mahomes, another freak of nature almost went down last night. Guy helped them score a touchdown and then goes down in a heap, bouncing around on that left leg. Chiefs go out there, play defense.
They come back. The next thing you know, Patrick Mahomes is back out out there on the field. People are saying that he sold his soul to the devil to get back out onto the field.
People were wondering whether or not he went out there and tore his Achilles. The Kansas city chiefs now have a record of 8-0. They beat Tampa Bay 30 to 24 in the elements, in the rain, in the cold, ugly, ugly game. The chiefs have now won 14 straight games and Patrick Mahomes, he was a man on fire. Three touchdowns, 10 first downs, 11 of 13 on first downs. Kansas city chiefs are rolling people. And then DeAndre Hopkins, this man ended up with two, count them two touchdowns. He seemed to be in awe after the game last night, like he just found heaven. Patrick Mahomes, happy that they won 14 consecutive games.
He said, yeah, the weather sucked, but we found heaven. I pride myself on being able to throw in any condition. I think that's something that's, that's an advantage at Arrowhead. And so if it's raining, if it's snowing, um, if it's cold, if it's hot, whatever it is, I want to be the best thrower of the football, uh, on the football field. And I think that's, that's why we want home field advantage. That's why we want, um, to get the playoffs to come through Arrowhead just cause it's a special place.
And you have to be able to play in every environment. Man, they got the Broncos next. You're going to tell me that they're not going to be favored to go nine and all the Kansas city chiefs, unless they get knocked off by, I don't know, the Buffalo Bills, the Baltimore Ravens, the Kansas city chiefs are just going to run through everybody again.
Now they got Hopkins. What, what type of world is this fair? It's not, not fair for your Kansas city chiefs. Hater me. I don't care. It doesn't matter to me. 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27.
That's 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. I'm going to take your calls on the other side of the break. We'll talk more about the chiefs. How about the, the commanders going in the right direction? People are killing Todd Bowles for losing to the chiefs last night and the college football playoff rankings. They're going to drop in like 30 minutes. We'll tell you about it. Don't move the Gerald sport re-show.
