The NFL is dealing with a surge in injuries, with several high-profile players, including Tua Tagovailoa, Christian McCaffrey, and Russell Wilson, facing calf and concussion issues. The 49ers' Christian McCaffrey is expected to miss several games due to a calf injury, while the Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa is being evaluated for a concussion after a hit in a game. The Steelers' Russell Wilson is also dealing with a calf injury, and his availability for the upcoming game is uncertain.

It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm coming to you live from New York City. I'm being joined by super producer and host Ryan Hickey. Happy Friday, happy starts of the weekend, happy football, football Friday, happy to be here, all that good stuff. Wherever you're at, whatever you're doing, I hope you're safe, I hope you're cool, well, and smooth. You can always listen to this show starting at 6 p.m Eastern or 3 Pacific every single weekday.

You can listen on the free Odyssey app, your local Infinity Sports Network affiliate, Sirius XM Channel 158, and if you have a smart speaker, ask the speaker to play the Infinity Sports Network. What a day, what a week, what a night, I mean, damn it, what a Friday. I mean, we just talked about an ass whooping in college football, 87 to 10 last night, South Alabama beat Northwestern, and then the big story all day long is Tua Tonga Veloa, and that's how the night went last night into today. And then a few hours ago, we learned that Christian McCaffrey, a future Hall of Famer, we might not see him play for a month because of his calf. And speaking of calves, Russell Wilson still might be bogged down with a calf injury. There's just so much going on in the NFL, college football action, we got teams moving conferences, we got Boston College trying to stay in the top 25, we have Notre Dame trying to bounce back from a surprise of its own.

There's just so much going on to get you set for the weekend, and we've had a busy show. Thank you so much to Dieter Kurtenbach from the Bay Area News Group for joining us to talk about Christian McCaffrey and the 49ers. And also thank you so much to former NFL player and NFL analyst, Merrill Hodge. Merrill Hodge came through and joined us. He feels very highly about the Kansas City Chiefs, also dealing with an injury.

What else is new? Everybody's hurt right now. And then the Detroit Lions.

Merrill Hodge feels strongly about both of those teams. So I'm going to be hanging out with you for one more hour. I know it sucks, but I'll be back with you next week as well. Of course, Monday, 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific.

If you want to holler at me, it's simple. You can find me online. I am at JR Sport Brief everywhere on social media, hopped on Instagram Live for a little while.

If you want to hit me up there, I'm at JR Sport Brief. And the phone number works. It's 855-212-4227.

That's 855-212-4227. It's good to be here in New York. Hickey, this is the first show that we've done in person, together.

Human beings sharing the same air, almost. It's been a while. I'm trying to think, the last time you were back up here. Well, no, not us together.

Really? I thought we have worked together. I'm pretty sure we have. The last time we worked together was in Kansas City.

Wow. Last year, 2023 draft show. Was it a draft in Kansas City last year?

I can't keep up. Was it a year before? 2023, you're right.

Because 2024 is in Detroit. Yeah, that's more than a year. Wow. A long time. That is. You look the same.

So do you, which is a good thing. I'm trying. I'm still here. I didn't break anything.

My key card worked. Nobody wanted to tell me that there was a new entrance. Nobody told me. That's right.

I forgot about that. I had to walk completely around the block. How'd you find it? Like, how'd you know where to go? Common sense.

Okay. You know, it's like, hey, it's one big building. And if one entrance is closed, there has to be, so I'm going to stay on the block. Something told me to get into this building. Something told me in my brain, don't cross the street. Cause that would put me into another building. I just walked around the block. That's when you put it that way. That's very smart.

This is a little bit of common sense. Ran into the landscape. I was like, ran into the lantern flies. No one harassed me for money, which was nice. Well, not yet. When I leave here, somebody's gonna arrest me for money. Always. There's always one person. One guy. You won't leave unscathed.

Really? Without someone asking you for money, without a doubt. Do you know somebody in Atlanta, somebody came up to my car window and they asked for my cash app. I said, I don't have any, I don't have money on me. I don't have money. And so you got cash app.

I said, Oh my God. I said, no, I don't have cash. The homeless now have iPhones.

Look, if you, if you got an iPhone and you could, if I could send you money on cash app and you could call somebody to come pick you up, I guess. Right. I would think so. Absolutely. Hmm.

Makes you wonder. I should have told, Hey, can you cash at me some money? And then I get, if you give somebody a cash app, they can just hit you up anytime forever.

Unless I guess you block them. And just, if I give you five, if I cash up you $5 for bus, I don't even know how much bus fares, but if I give you bus fare, you're going to hit me up on Wednesday and go, Hey, I'm stuck. Can you cash at me two 50? And like, no, I can't. I can't.

This is the last time. I promise. I'm in a bad situation here. I need help. I don't know who you are.

Anyway. Is that what somebody, nobody in the city going to ask me for my cash up or Venmo, right? I don't think so. I don't think so. That happened to me one time, but up where I live.

Somebody asked for you to digitally send them money. On the street. Did a double take. And I was going to ask a question, but I'm like, you know what, I'm just a set up. I'm just going to keep on walking.

So I never, never got to the bottom of that, but I guess now everyone is, everyone is modernizing. This place has always been interesting, but it's even more interesting. You got the lantern, lantern flies. Is that what they are?

The lantern flies. You look pretty, but. Oh no, no, they're ugly. No, they're ugly.

You smash them and they're red and all the ugly. And then every place I go, I see a cloud everywhere. Everywhere's a cloud. And then I smell it after I walk through and I go, whoa, like, whoa, am I, am I going to get drug tested?

Am I going to pass? May not. Yeah. There was a guy with just like, it looked like a, a regular truck with no windows and the door was open. I looked inside and they're selling, they're selling stuff. I said, what is this? Wow.

How about nice and nice and easy. I mean, you got to make a purchase before you go back down to Georgia. No, no, thank you. That's exactly what you would trust from a truck, from a guy in a truck. What happens if I, if I try to put that through airplane security, do I want to find out? I don't think you want to find out. You trying to get me like put away? There will be no show on Monday if that happens. I was about to say, man, if you're not here on Monday, I think we know why you think I know what happened. Oh, wow. Anyway, I'm going to, I'm going to try to leave this place unscathed. Uh, anyway, if you want to call up, you can it's eight five five two one two 42 27.

That's eight five five two one two 42 27. You know, let's, let's go through these, uh, these unfortunate injuries. A couple of hours ago, we learned that the 49ers open up their season against the New York jets without Christian McCaffrey due to his calf and his Achilles injury. He's also going to be out this Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. And it appears that he might be out much longer than that as Kyle Shanahan was asked whether or not Christian McCaffrey is going on injured reserve.

And this was Kyle Shanahan's response. Uh, that's something we're considering now. Yeah. Yesterday was his worst day. Um, it's on and off, but with yesterday having the most pain, um, something we're going to be discussing here in the next 24 hours.

Yeah. We don't, we don't know better to be hurt early than late. The San Francisco 49ers are trying to compete for a championship. Christian McCaffrey is the highest paid running back in the game at $16 million per year.

He's been hurt dating back to training camp. All right. This is now September. I don't know what the hell's today's date.

Oh, I can't keep up. Today is September 13th. It is Friday the 13th. Is there a ladder in here? I could walk under. Good thing you're not superstitious.

I'm not. I'll find a ladder. Now walk under it. That's really tempting fate. Wow.

Do a two step under that ladder. Uh, yeah, it's Friday the 13th and, uh, Christian McCaffrey is, is out. He'll be fine. Speaking of calf injuries, there's another guy dealing with a calf injury. He's a quarterback. He's not a running back. He also missed the first game of the season.

Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Atlanta Falcons. This is Russell Wilson. Mike Tomlin spoke to the media today and he said, what this regarding Russell's availability, I'm going to list him as questionable. And so obviously if his availability is questionable, then starting is less so. Um, but we've been in that mindset all week, man.

Like I've said, um, we've been focused on getting Justin ready to play and, and we'll continue in that mindset as we push forward toward game time. This really sucks because the Steelers are going to take on the Broncos. This was expected to be a revenge game, man. I wanted to see Russell Wilson go to midfield and shake the hand of Sean Payton. Now Sean Payton would kind of give him one. That's one of the, that's one way in the NFL, you can be disrespectful without being disrespectful.

The mid field handshake reach in, give him a handshake instead of never look him in the eye, look him in the eye, give him a slap on the arm while you kind of push him out the way Bill Belichick known to kind of reach in and give you a five and kind of shove you aside. I needed to see that interaction between Sean Payton and Russell Wilson, but now we won't because apparently Russell Wilson is questionable. And if I got to use some common sense, Justin Fields will be in action against those Denver Broncos. And I'm going to trust the Steelers to still win that game, but they'll probably win that game ugly. And speaking of ugly, there was nothing uglier than what we witnessed last night.

Yeah, the game was bad. Buffalo Bill smacking up the Dolphins again. Josh Allen now has a 12 and two record against the Dolphins since coming into the NFL. But the big story obviously was Tua Tonga Veloa going down in that third quarter, going down with that concussion. This is like the fourth head injury. I say head injury because some of his hits weren't officially diagnosed as concussions.

The man went down, got into that fencing position. And it's just how much more, how much more hits do we need to see from Tua? It's uncomfortable.

It really is. Nick Saban, he spoke earlier today on Pat McAfee's show and Nick Saban, Nick Saban, he was asked whether or not Tua should go or leave. And he's like, listen, that's up to his doctors. Tua is such a great competitor, but I think this has to be a medical decision. I mean, you have to let medical people who understand the circumstances around these injuries, these concussions, when you have multiple concussions, that's not a good sign. And I think Tua and his family and everyone else should listen to all the medical evidence to make sure that you're not compromising your future health-wise by continuing to play football. But I think that's a medical decision. I don't think that's something for me to speculate on, or, and I know a lot of people are doing it and, you know, more power to them, but I think the family should not be influenced by that. Tua should not be influenced by that.

It should be all based on, you know, medical professionals. Well, you want to talk about the family. You know, it was only last year that Tua Tongaveloa talked about his family and his mom encouraging him to potentially retire.

And that was last year. Tua himself said he had to consider retirement. But if you want to talk about family, how about Man Titeo? Remember him?

Of course you do. He had an imaginary girlfriend. He's not the only one, but I digress. Man Titeo, he was on Good Morning Football, and he's close. Like, that's his boy.

That's his friend. And Man Titeo got emotional talking about his friend, Tua. After he suffered the one against the Bengals, I wanted him to walk.

That, when I saw him have to be carted off the field, I wanted him to walk. Like, that was, that was hard, bro. Like, what people have to understand is this is just a game, this is just a game, you know.

And then there's life. And when you watch, when you watch a young man that you've known since she was a little boy go out there, you know, yeah, is it hard, is it hard for me? Yeah, but I can't imagine how it is for Uncle Nalu and Auntie Diane to watch their son again go down.

Oh wow, that's, that's tough. Every, everybody, everybody's feeling a way about this, man. You know, Antonio Pierce, former NFL linebacker, current, current coach of the Raiders, he kind of chimed in to listen to what Antonio Pierce said.

He got nothing to do with this, but they asked him about it. Listen to the Raiders coach. I'll be honest, I'll just tell him to retire. It's not worth it.

It's not worth the play of the game. I haven't witnessed anything like I've seen that's happened to him three times. Scary. You can see right away the players' faces on the field. You can see the sense of urgency from everybody to get to a help. I just think at some point, you know, he's gonna live long and he's gonna play football, take care of your family.

Yeah, it's tough. As a fan watching, like I'm watching him, I'm like, hey, don't get hit, don't get hit, don't get hit. But I guess when the players are just like, man, if you take one more, you, you're cooking yourself in old age. And we've seen some terrible instances, you know, even just to bring up a junior Seau and what happened to him and, and then them being able to evaluate his brain. And you never know which direction things are going to go.

Your brain is so fragile and you know, what's in there is not meant to be, to be rattled around. It's a risk that the players take. And for Tua, for all these guys who are injured right now, Hollywood Brown is going to have shoulder surgery, hasn't played a game yet for the Kansas City Chiefs.

You know, ultimately you just, you just never know. And that's football. You know, everybody steps out onto the field and you never know.

Come on, man. We had Nick Chubb out there, his leg, I saw his leg break. I said, oh no, this guy's done. And he's not, he didn't come back yet, but he's not. Alex Smith broke his leg.

I'm saying to myself, oh my God, this guy's done. He was not after almost 20 surgeries. He came back. The body is just a, it's a wild thing, especially utilizing modern medicine and surgery and tools. It's crazy what you can recover from, which you only get, you get one brain.

Good luck to Tua Tongaveloa. I'm not going to say whether or not he should go or retire. I ain't no doctor.

I know I'm always going to watch every game as I have. You know, it went away for a while. There was some trepidation watching him play. And the initial concerns were that was his body physically going to hold up given his size. He already had a hip surgery and he, I don't want to say he was diminutive, but he ain't Justin Herbert out there. You know, he ain't Phillip Rivers. He ain't Peyton Manning. He's not a big dude.

Maybe that's one of the reasons why. Trying to get some yardage against DeMar Hamlin. His head went right into DeMar's midsection and then his head went right onto the turf. And that was pretty much it. Good luck to Tua Tongaveloa. 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227. I'll take your calls.

It's real simple. Do you think Tua should keep on going? Do you want to see Tua keep on going?

Or would you, as a viewer, would you feel more comfortable if Tua just, just hung him up? 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227. I'll get to your calls on the other side of the break. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It's the JR Sport Brief show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227.

I've been chatting it up about Tua Tongaveloa. So many injuries. Christian McCaffrey.

Not available in all states. Eric is here joining us from Texas. Hey Eric, how are you? You're on the JR Sport Brief show. Hey Jared, how's it going?

Very well. About Tua, I was thinking about back in the day, you know, when Sid the Kid first came into the league for the Pittsburgh Penguins. You know, he got three concussions pretty quick and there was a lot of people saying, you know, that he should retire and he decided not to.

And then between 2017 and 2024, he only had one in that whole seven-year period, which I thought was pretty remarkable. And hockey's a violent sport, so like, you know, it is Tua's decision and it could go one way, it could go the other. You know, you just never know. I wouldn't compare it though, because yeah, we know hockey is a violent sport, it's a physical sport. We got dudes getting checked into the boards, we got elbows flying, we got sticks flying, we got pucks flying, we got teeth flying. Yeah, hockey is a very physical sport, but it's not like football. Tua is getting the ball snapped to him and he's having 11 other guys trying to rip his head off, okay?

That's just the nature of it. I wouldn't compare it and yeah, okay, all the defensive backs are not out there blitzing around, but he has the ball in there trying to destroy him. That's not the case for Sidney Crosby. I wouldn't compare it. And also, like a lot of people listening, I'm not a doctor. I'm also not Tua's doctor.

And so I think it's tough to say and I think it's a tough comparison as well. What else you got, Eric? Also, I was thinking about, you know, when as a person, I'm glad I was, you know, work at work and not watching the game because it was either when it happened a year ago or two years ago when he got hit and his hands locked up, I got a real sick feeling in my stomach and I just, I don't want to take a chance seeing that again. I'm just gonna be something stuck in my head. Well, we saw it again last night.

Nobody wants to see it. We'll find out soon enough and I don't know what that is. I don't know if it's a couple of weeks, a couple of months.

We'll find out what's going on with Tua. Hey, Eric, thank you for calling from Texas, man. All right, man. Have a good one.

You as well. Eric is calling. I don't know. I'm not a doctor.

Not Tua's doctor. I don't even know how much the brain is such a complex thing. Nobody knows. If we unfold your brain right now, I don't even know what's going on in there. I don't know.

Will it stretch from one end of the office to the other? Right. It's.

Oh, yeah, I wonder someone had been not tested, but like, there's definitely some sort of, if you Google that, I bet you find an answer. I bet 10 feet, 10 feet worth of brain in our head. What do you think? I don't know.

I don't even know what this means. 86 billion neurons. I don't know what that sounds like a lot, but I don't know. It sounds like a lot, but in terms of length, I don't know. How long is a brain if I unfold it?

Now, these are not. He's a dumb ass. He's a dumb ass. Shows you how much of a brain I have. Look at this guy. AI to the test.

That thing is probably combusting at the seam right now. How long is a brain if I unfolded? These are questions you ask on a Saturday night or Friday night when you're high. If you were to unfold one side of the cortex of an average adult brain, it would have surface area of about 100,000 millimeters, which is roughly one and a half times the size of a piece of a four paper. What if you would have spread out the entire brain? This is now, this is simple.

I can understand this. It'd be the size of a pillowcase. Okay. Not that big. It's pretty big. So like you're flattening it like a pizza almost like, is that what we're doing? I don't know.

If you unfolded your whole brain, it'd be the size of a pillowcase. Okay. All right. I see.

I can unpack it. Okay. All right.

And then if, if what? No, it's just what it is. That's okay. That's boom.

Yep. Your brain is the size of a folded up pillowcase inside your skull. Interesting.

Very com very complicated. I ain't no brain doctor. I'm not a neurologist. I don't study brains.

I don't know. Um, I just don't know anybody who would want to see this man who wants to see anybody unless you're watching boxing at MMA. Like you expect it, but not, not for this, not for this. Good luck to Tua, man.

I wouldn't be mad if they sat him out the whole year. What are we watching? Like, even if you're a Dolphins fan and you thought that you were going to do something this year with Tua Tonga Veloa, like, I don't know, go into Kansas city when it's negative 30 and when, if you thought you were going up the Buffalo, even though Josh Allen has now owned you for a record at 12 and two, you have to look at Tua first and just go, man, just, just stay home, go to Hawaii rehab and not, not, not such a bad rehab. Live your life, man. Live your life. 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27.

That's 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. You know, speaking of, of living your life, I don't know what the hell this guy was doing. Woke up to a story about Boulder, Colorado, had nothing to do with the Buffaloes and had everything to do with an individual who decided to, uh, let's just say, uh, had a little bit too much fun last night in Boulder. Boulder is beautiful, by the way, looks like an episode of crazy taxi. Listen to this news clip, courtesy of CBS Colorado. We begin with breaking news tonight. This man is now in custody after allegedly fleeing the scene of a crash, then smashing through a gated Folsom field in Boulder and crash landing onto the football field.

Police say they were first responding to a crash near Foothills Parkway in Arapahoe when one of the drivers fled the scene. After a 20 minute standoff, that suspect was taken into custody on the field. What? Hickey, did you see the photos? I was about to ask you all I did. This guy is like, this guy is like he had no shirt on, right?

No shirt. He was standing like it was a pick. Was it a pickup truck behind him?

I'll bang a pickup truck, but it was indeed a pickup truck. And he had like tire marks. He ripped that. He ripped that field up. I don't know if it was the whole field, but you saw the marks, the turf, the grass was up from where he went. It's a good thing Colorado's not home this weekend. They got two weeks.

Yes. To fix that turf. And thankfully, I mean, I think he drove what? Just like around the 20 yard line. It wasn't the whole field.

Remember the guy, I think it was the Browns. He broke in, got some equipment and drove on the Browns field all over it. Whereas they couldn't fix it in time for the game. So you could see all the tire marks and everything.

At least you have time to fix it. But you see, I think his right tire, the back tire was blown out. It was just on the axle. Like Scott, I don't know what he was doing.

I don't know what he was on. I don't, I'm trying to understand how you, how you getting through these gates like this, man, you just busted. Full speed. That's how he's doing foot down. You know, just busting, just busting through, man.

That's crazy. And I mean, in a lot of these stadiums in the daytime and off days, people are working. I'm not going to say you could just kind of sneak your way into a football field, but there's always, not construction, there's always things moving around and people moving here and moving there.

And we need to open up a gate and the plumbers need to do this. There's a lot of activity, but for a guy, I might as well call him a criminal. For a guy to just, just run into the field, run onto the field and do all of this.

Where's, where's security? I mean, I know Deion Sanders is very selective about the questions that he now answers and, and who asks the questions and who's allowed to ask him a question. We can't do better than this. Ask Deion about the guy who ran onto the field. At least this is a distraction from his son throwing the offensive line under the bus. I guess his son is ready for the NFL. I wonder how that will work in the NFL.

A Chidor runner, right? You know, yeah, I wasn't good today because the offensive line didn't give me time to throw. Let me know how that works in the league.

Let me know. 8-5-5-2-1-2, 42-27. That's 8-5-5-2-1-2, 42-27. Pete is calling from Green Bay. I wonder if Pete's going to play quarterback for the Packers. You're on the JR Sportbreeze Show.

What's up, Pete? Yeah, yeah. I am not going to play quarterback for the, for the Packers this weekend. No way, JR. Okay. Hey, I appreciate your show, man.

Always very insightful. I got a quick question on my fantasy league. I sat A-Chain last night.

It was a foolish move. I got Ayuk, Collins, and Jerome Ford. Who are you going with?

You said you have Brandon Ayuk. Who else? You said? Okay.

And Ford from Cleveland. Okay. Okay.

Huh. You asking me who to sit? No, who to start?

Who to start? Hold on a second. Hold on. I'm trying to help you out. And this, this is of no benefit. This is of no benefit to me.

So why am I helping you? Hold on. Let me see. Uh, yeah. I mean, well, oh man.

The Sunday Night Football. I don't, no, I wouldn't do that. Okay.

So I'd avoid Nico. Okay. You asked. Okay.

The Minnesota Vikings. Uh, you got Ford on the, uh, Brown. Okay. Hmm. Hold on one second.

I got an answer. Hold on, hold on. Let's see. This is tough. This is tough. What do I, what do I get?

What do I get on the, on the, on the end? Let's see. I myself am a civil servant. So I mean, you're really giving back to the community. You're helping me out here. Whoa.

What a cop out. I don't want nobody's good karma. You know how much I could pay my bills with good karma?

You think Verizon takes good karma? I mean, I'll give you a reference. You know, this is a top three.

Maybe I will get you a hot ready pizza. Go, go, go with, go with Brandon. Are you okay?

Go, go ahead and do that. All right. You really think so.

You think he's going to bounce back? All right. I think so. I appreciate that Jr. You're very, you're very welcome. Good, good luck to you and none to me. Okay. Good karma. Appreciate it. Go pack, go, go pack, go, go doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, go pack, go. Thank you, Pete.

Appreciate you for calling from green Bay. Hey, I'm going to do that the next time I need to get groceries. So listen, I don't have the 100 bucks to stock my fridge.

Do you mind if I can pay you in a good karma points? You know, there's a, I don't know if it's a deli. There's like some sort of bread store in Brooklyn that just opened up where you pay for the bread, what you feel like you should pay.

Okay. And they said, if that means you feel like you should pay nothing for the bread, then you pay nothing for the bread. They're giving away free bread, essentially. There is a, there is a, a refrigerator in Atlanta that is stocked for people just to go in and take what they need out of it. I think a church or something does it.

That's very nice. It's literally on the curb. It is a refrigerator on the curb.

And it's like a no judgment thing. You can literally go in there and get the food and fresh stuff that you need, how this exists and how, man, I thank God I can afford groceries. Okay. I can afford groceries. Sometimes I walk by and I say to myself, man, I need, do I need to pull my car over right now? Like, I'll be on my way to Publix. And I'm like, do I need to go to Publix right now?

When all I have to do is just go right into this fridge. It's a no judgment thing. Right. But then I say to people who go, they need it more than I do. I am, you know what faith in humanity is restored a little bit because I would have figured that would have been ransacked immediately.

And the church would have given up. Maybe not enough people know about it. I don't know, man, that place. I'm like, whoa, free fridge, free food. Anyway, I wish, is there anything free I can eat in here? No, they charge us for cookies.

Yeah. And then nothing free here. Water, water is free.

That's true. Air, air is free to breathe. Is it healthy air in here? Is it being filtered? No, I can't answer. I don't know. Whatever.

There's nothing free around here. Enjoy it. It's the JR Sport Reshow here with you on the Infinity Sports Network, 855-212-4227.

The phone lines are open if you want to give me a holler before we roll out. Of course, I'm going to take you back in time. We're going to take a look at a few things that took place this day in sports history. Today is September 13th. Yes, it is Friday the 13th.

We're going to go back in time before we roll out of here. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It's the JR Sport Reshow here with you on the Infinity Sports Network, 855-212-4227.

That's 855-212-4227. Getting ready to wrap things up here on a Friday evening. Get you all set and ready for the weekend. We talked some college football. We talked some professional football. Unfortunately, it seems like the theme for it today had to deal a lot with injuries. Whether you are Christian McCaffrey or Marquise Brown or Russell Wilson or obviously Tua Tonga Veloa. Man, we even got Nate Wiggins who was just drafted by the Baltimore Ravens.

This man dealing with a little bit of a neck issue following a car accident. Jordan Addison won't play for the Minnesota Vikings against the 49ers. So entries are the name of the game and that's what it comes down to in the NFL. I'm going to get to your calls and then I'm going to take you back in time to a few things that took place this day in sports history. September 13th.

Today is Friday the 13th. But right now we're going to this caller. Caller number one, Ashley out of Sacramento.

You're on the JR Sport Reshow. How are you, Ashley? Doing all right. I'm doing all right. How are you? I'm very well.

What's on your mind? I was just wondering in regards to McCaffrey, I've heard a lot of different things contradicting themselves in terms of Shanahan initially said that he wasn't considering IRR. Now he is. I've also heard that some people believe that the Niners are kind of using CMC in the month of September, kind of like the Patriots would when they had their dynasty going in terms of looking at September like extra preseason games. My question for you is, do you think he does get put onto IRR? And if so, how much do you think Jordan may think can impact the Niners based off of what he did in week one?

Well, we had that conversation earlier. Thank you so much to Dieter Kurtenbach for joining us and thank you Ashley for calling from Sacramento. I'm not concerned. I don't think Christian McCaffrey is going to go on injury reserve. I don't think he is because I think they want to go ahead and take it week by week.

If they really want to shut him down, then they're going to go ahead and do so. I think in the long term, as long as he comes back healthy, whether or not he's formally out for four weeks or they decide to bring him back in three, that doesn't change my outlook on the 49ers. As long as he is healthy, that's good. The last thing that you want is for this calf injury to crop up again later on in the year. Whenever he goes, you don't want any more starts and stops.

You just want him full steam ahead. So maybe they will sit him out for the four games. So whether it's four or three, I don't think we're going to see him play until he's at full steam. This has been something that's bothering him dating back to the summer. I mean, Russell Wilson has the same type of issue.

His calf issue and injury and strain goes back to the beginning of training camp. It's now the middle of September. Damn, bro.

Damn. Hickey's looking at me like, yeah, man, it is. It's the middle of September. How the hell we get here? I do really want to go back in time. What the hell is this?

Wasn't Labor Day just like yesterday? How scary is that? I want to go.

I really want to go back. Let's talk to David. Maybe he has a time machine. David is calling from Washington. You're on the J.R. Sportbree show. What's up, David? Hey, how you doing? I listen occasionally. I appreciate your show.

I just wanted to give you advice. I know I may get run off the call, but just let your guys know when you ask for fantasy football stats that maybe they should go look at their waiver wire and pick another receiver other than IU per Ford. Just another thought.

OK, thank you, David. And then I guess the only other thing is college football's a blast. We're a go Ducks neighborhood around here. It gets us in a lot of trouble with the Huskies and the Cougars. Well, I like Cougars. Are you going to beat the Beavers?

Well, we should if our line plays well. OK. Yeah, I like I like Ducks and beating Beavers, too. Thank you, David, for calling from Washington. Have a good night.

You as well. Hickey, that's the straightest. That's the straightest. No nonsense, no nothing, no fluff call I've ever had in my life. David is a man of business, that is for sure.

I just told him that I just said so many things. I'm not getting no emails after this, am I? Are you a bigger Washington State fan or Oregon State fan, would you say, in general? Washington State or Oregon State?

Which one do you fancy more? You trying to get me in trouble? No, I'm just asking the question.

Are you baiting me into saying something that I'm not supposed to say? No, those are the two Pac-12 teams right now around. They both have big rivalry games this weekend. I don't know if you're pulling for one more than the other, that's all. Bro, I don't care. Oh, OK. I do not care. OK. I don't care if it's not if it's not the Bulldogs.

Damn. By the way, Google Bulldogs on Peachtree Street. Go ahead, Google it. Am I allowed to? Is this a safe search? Yeah, you can.

I'm on the company Wi-Fi here. Yeah, it's a normal establishment. Bulldogs, is this a place or is this? Yeah, it's a place on Peachtree in Georgia, yeah.

Speaking of which, I think I'm going to reference. OK, OK. Yeah. It looks like a good game day spot. It is. Yeah, lots of good games. 3.9 stars out of five.

Good reviews. Yeah, I don't know if they'll let me or you in. OK, let's put it that way.

It's the JR Sportbreeze Show here on the Infinity Sports Network, at least maybe for one more night. It's time to go back. I want to go back in time.

Let's try. Back in the days when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore, but some days I sit and wish I was a kid again. It's time for this day in sports history. You see, back in those days we had radio and you couldn't see anything.

And it was primitive and lousy and we liked it. On the JR Sportbreeze Show. I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass.

All right. It's time to go back in time. September 13th, 1999. This man, he helped them win two championships. He couldn't find a quarterback out. Well, he did.

But then he sucked afterwards. Hey, anyway, it's John Elway. They retired his number seven jersey. 1999, September 13th. I'd really like to say what an honor it is to see those things dropped off my name up there. I remember 16 years playing here and with all the other great names up here, to have my name associated and involved in the Ring of Fame was truly a great honor.

Yeah, I mean, outside of borrowing Peyton Manning at the end of his own career, things were pretty bad trying to find a QB. Didn't work. None of them. September 13th, 2010. Rafael Nadal, he beat Novak Djokovic to win the U.S. Open. He completed the career Grand Slam at the U.S. Open.

He got them all. Rafael Nadal, 24 years old, just completed a career Grand Slam, winning his first U.S. Open. Much respect these two players have for each other.

Number one, beat number two. Man, it's so bad. I've watched so much tennis. I've watched Rafael Nadal my whole, well, not my whole life.

He came after. Yeah, I've watched so much him playing tennis. It's bad. I know what his grunts sound like. I could listen to him and I know exactly who it is.

It's bad. Anyway, September 13th, OK, no more. 2020, I was going to say something about Shane.

OK, no more. 2020, I was going to say something about Shannon Sharpe. 2020, Alec Mills threw a no hitter for the Cubs against the Brewers.

Listen to this. Up the middle, Baez has it. It's a no hitter. The former college walk on has made history in Milwaukee. Yeah, nice achievement. The Cubs beat the Brewers. They beat them down 12 to nothing. That was the 16th no hitter in Cubs history. He struck out five.

Alec Mills is not in baseball right now. Sorry. Sorry about that.

Anyway, Hickey has been great hanging out with you. Now I got to leave. That's it. One and done. I've hated it here with you so much. I have to leave. Well, I'm glad I made a great first impression.

Yeah, it's terrible. Well, always a pleasure working with you. Good to work with you in person.

And yeah, what the hell else can I say? We'll be back on what day is it? Monday at 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific, which will be fun. And you'll be on over the weekend.

Tell everybody when and where they can listen to you. 10 p.m. Eastern, 7 p.m. Pacific right here. Infinity Sports Network on Sunday night after the games.

Where can people find you? Hickey, come on. Ryan underscore Hickey and the number three on Twitter.
