Welcome in, everybody. This is the JR Sport Brief here on CBS Sports Radio. Number to get aboard is 855-212.

For CBS, that is 855-212-4227. Always great to be with you however and wherever you may be listening from. We have, uh, we're going to get JR very, very soon. And I know that, look, we're talking about a football game that, let's be honest, nobody really wants to be talking about or watching. And I think it's a little bit unfair because you have a guy in CJ Stroud that has been all-time great as a rookie. And you have an individual in Bryce Young and he's always going to be compared to that. And when you talk about CJ Stroud, you talk about the lack of interceptions. You talk about the incredible 300-yard passing juggernaut that he has turned into.

And so I really think it's absolutely amazing that CJ Stroud has had the season that he has had. And so it's kind of unfair to Bryce Young, but yet again, that's the parameter of which he is going to be judged against. I mean, I'm a big NBA guy and I often feel bad for Akeem Olajuwon because Akeem Olajuwon was the number one overall pick in 1984.

You all know that. But what we don't give Akeem a lot of credit for is the fact that he's one of the all-time great players to ever lace him up in NBA hardwood history. But he was in the draft of Michael Jordan. And so it definitely works against CJ Stroud that everyone else is so mediocre and this guy is so great. But, you know, you got, you know, Bajant on the Bears. And to me, you know, the whole situation is just about Justin Fields and whether or not he's going to be healthy enough. We know he is a franchise-caliber talent. Have the Bears completely butchered Justin Fields when it comes to him being the quarterback, you know, of the Chicago Bears?

I think a lot of people would say yes. But the reality is, again, you have a very mediocre Thursday night football game. And I just think that Thursday's got to, they got to do better with this. I mean, that's the bottom line. Thursday has to do better.

They are shelling out all kinds of money in the millions if not billions of dollars to get the Amazon Prime and the rights and the merchandise and all of that that comes with it. But yet we are continuously subjected to mediocre football and it is completely highlighted on this particular Thursday night when you have a Panthers team that some feel doesn't even belong in the NFL. No disrespect to, you know, obviously Mr. Tepper himself.

And definitely you have a Chicago Bears situation where they have never been able to develop a quarterback in the last 30, 35 years. I mean, Jim McMahon, where are you? I mean, you may not have had the greatest arm, well, he did at BYU, but Jim McMahon, at least he was a big time gamer. And so with that being said, I know I didn't have a whole lot to offer in terms of this Thursday night football game because I'm going to be honest, I know J.R. is not looking forward to this Thursday night football game, but yet we are subjected to this. So J.R., how are you, my friend? I'm even better now that I'm here, but I still got this game going on in the background. I don't know how I should feel about this. It's still crap-tacular, man. How are you feeling, Shep?

You good? I'm doing well, J.R. Yeah, I mean, why do we subject ourselves to this as football fans? Like, can't they do better than this, J.R.? If it's Thursday night, you got to put something out there as opposed to nothing, which is dog crap. Let's be real about that. Well, it's too early in the season to flex these type of games, and people are going to watch, right?

That's what it boils down to. This is America's sport. I don't want to call it America's pastime. This is not going, or it's not going the way of baseball. The NFL is rising in popularity. We got games taking place in Frankfurt, Germany, all over the place. People watch. That's the reason, that's the name of the game at the end of the day.

And so, yes, we'll keep you up to date on this. I don't want to call it crap. We got NFL players out there earning their money, earning their paycheck.

Carolina Panthers leading in an exciting matchup. Can you sense the sarcasm? Ten to nine. Don't choke, don't listen, man. J.R., you know the biggest problem Bryce Young is going to have throughout his NFL career? Being small.

That too. And listen, Caleb Williams is not exactly Mr. Cam Newton himself. He's about six, I think he's six feet flat. You know what, he's a generous 6'1". But it's the fact that the barometer is always going to be CJ Stroud, who has taken off like I've never seen from another rookie quarterback. Yeah, I mean, look, when you can wake up one game and just toss four and five touchdowns like it's nothing, he's probably having one of the best seasons of a rookie QB ever. And so, you think Bryce Young is going to be, well, they're going to be attached.

You can't mention one dude in his career versus the other. It's going to be the case. I don't want to shut the door. You closing the door on Bryce Young? I'm sorry, J.R., say that one more time? I said you're closing the door on Bryce Young.

Oh, okay, I thought that was what you said. J.R., I'm not closing the door on Bryce Young, but I don't, there's, there needs to be things that the eye test tells you early on. Like Trevor Lawrence was horrible in terms of results, but he was making plays with his arm.

He was showing glimpses where he was reading, you know, the articles. His head coach was Urban Meyer. Oh, oh, his head coach is a college football head coach, I'll give you that, but J.R., there's nothing about Bryce Young early on that I look and say, oh my God, like, do you see the zip on that pass? Do you see him improvise? Do you see that tight, you know, window throw that he just made where five other quarterbacks maybe at best can possibly make?

No. But you see the greatness in Peyton Manning early. You saw it in Trevor. The wins and losses didn't add up, J.R. And I understand Bryce Young has one victory to his name, not exactly anything to write home about. But to answer your question, I'm not closing the book on him, but I'm not seeing transcendent.

I'm not seeing generational all time great. Well it's, it's, it's still early. Carolina Panthers stunk, they stink, that's why they have this man, that's why they were able to select him and get that pick off of the Bears. And we got time to see how he works out. He's a smallish quarterback. It certainly doesn't help his case that everybody's going to be looking at and has been looking at CJ Stroud, who has absolutely been playing out of his mind and also happens to be a rookie, also happens to be taken right behind him, also happens to be playing for a Houston team that actually is showing a little bit of life. And if anybody deserves a little bit of life, a little bit of attention, you can go ahead and point at those Houston Texans fans who for years had to look at Bill O'Brien, tear the team down, had to deal with Deshaun Watson and that suspension and then getting the boot out of town. We had fans in Houston who were basically quitting the Texans because of all of the nonsense that went on. Hopkins goes and Watson goes and O'Brien tears the squad down. And so this is good for them.

And I know all my folks in North Carolina are certainly hoping the same. And then you want to talk about a quarterback situation? Look, the Bears aren't in all that much better of a space as they still have to try and figure out whether or not Justin Fields is the guy. And the Bears, it seems like for their entire history, have just been searching for a quarterback. And so tonight is just a matchup of two teams just kind of grasping right now. Panthers, Bears, the only touchdown was a punt return.

I mean, nobody can even go out there and score by accident. And I don't want to call this the loser bowl, but we know, and I just mentioned this, the trade for the number one pick last year. Chicago Bears didn't necessarily need it because they had Justin Fields. But this season, Chicago owns Carolina's first round pick in this upcoming draft, 2024.

Bears had it last year, traded it to Carolina for DJ Moore. And so they're trying to play spoiler this year. We got a one-win team versus a two-win team. This might as well be a mid-season toilet bowl.

It's just the facts of it, unfortunately. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. It's good to be here.

A little technical difficulties here at the start. We got plenty to get into. Yes, we'll talk more about this game as it concludes. Hopefully there's something exciting that takes place. Speaking of exciting, Shohei Ohtani about to get a contract, eventually doing something nice for everybody in Japan.

I'm trying to figure out, maybe we have somebody in America do the same here. Giving away gloves to thousands and thousands of students. Kyler Murray, speaking of small quarterbacks, looks like Kyler Murray is going to be back. We got college coaches going wild. If you thought Jim Harbaugh was the only head coach in college football, kind of get smacked around right now.

Wait until you hear Lane Kiffin terrorize one of his student athletes, quote, unquote. Justin Jefferson lets everybody know that he ain't coming back to work until he is 100%. And then I do want to get into Giannis Eterucumpo.

Giannis, he got booted from work by a referee who thought he was being a little too abusive to another player. Look, I'm going to be here with you for the next four hours. The show gets started around this time every night, 10 p.m. Eastern, 7 Pacific. You can always listen on the free Odyssey app, your local CBS Sports Radio affiliate, Sirius XM Channel 158. And if you have a smart speaker, all you have to do is ask it to play CBS Sports Radio.

You can find me online everywhere at JR Sport Brief. You want to go ahead and holler at us, it's simple. The number is 855-212-4CBS.

That's 855-212-4CBS. And that ain't all. I know we got this craptacular Thursday Night Football game. But in Mexico City, of all places, yes, you heard me correctly, Mexico City, we got an NBA game going on right now.

The Magic, quote, unquote, hosts the Atlanta Hawks in this currently 26-26, two minutes left in the first quarter. It would be fun to see how the teams kind of play in the elevation and whether or not they get burned out or tired later on in the game. Mexico City makes Denver look like a walk in the park when it comes down to elevation. And this kind of goes to what Shep says, it's like, hey, can we do better on a Thursday night? And it's like, eh, no. I mean, NFL, NBA, NHL, everybody just wants to expand their reach. They want to expand the game. NBA in Mexico City, NFL in Frankfurt, Germany, I think the NHL has, I think they've been overseas too, I think. If anything, they've been playing outside with the Winter Classic. I don't mind that. Major League Baseball, where are they going?

Nowhere. They got enough time and inventory here, 81 games, home games a season. I made a mistake and looked over at Thursday Night Football. Chicago Bears trying to punch the ball into the end. Tyler Bay, who knew who this guy was?

Justin Fields can't come back soon enough. We knew his dad, right? Some of us did anyway. Baygent, his dad? Yeah, some of us did.

Ugh. And it was a, was that a drop touch there? Did he drop it? He couldn't hold it? Of course he dropped it.

It was the Bears and Panthers. It's Mooney, yeah. 855-212-4CBS. How about it? We got people who want to talk to us already, who's this? Morris is calling from South Carolina, you're on CBS Sports Radio, what's up Morris? Yeah, I want to talk to Shelf about his statement last night about Anthony Davis and a, what did he say, a Lakers legend? You calling about something from last night?

Yeah, I tried to get through, but I couldn't get through. Well, this show be bumping, man. What's on your mind? Go for it. Tell Shelf.

Well, no, no, no, no, wait, wait, wait, wait. You are live on the radio. He can hear you. You speak.

Go ahead. I'm a Laker, I'm a Laker fan forever. There is no way in this world Anthony Davis will ever go down as a Laker legend. So first of all, you have to have heart, Anthony Davis has zero heart and he got plenty of money, but he ain't got no heart for the game. I'm just sorry to say it. I will, listen, here's my thing Morris.

I will give, I will give you this. I will concede this Anthony Davis, considering the talent that he has been given with, that is God given, he has fallen short of what someone like that is six for 11 is capable of achieving. Especially when you talk about what Jr alluded to, that he really started out as a point guard before he hit that gross bird. So he has skill that you can't teach.

I'll give you that. But when you talk about a guy that has been donning a Lakers uniform for five seasons, that was by far the second best player and oftentimes in any given series, their best player when they made a championship run, which is the only kind of a war that matters to Lakers fans. And he's been there for five years and he's averaged, averaged 26 points per game, 13 rebounds per game, and has been underrated as a facilitator and continues to be the rim protector that the Lakers have needed in order to win that championship.

Not to mention the fact Morris, that when he was playing healthy against the Phoenix Suns, that was the only team in the West the very next season that could easily give them any kind of series. So I'm not saying he's going to have a statue anytime soon. I'm not saying he's one of the greatest Lakers to ever exist. I know he's not. He's not Kobe. He's not Magic. He's not Shaq. He doesn't have the intangibles that those other three guys have that I just alluded to. But what you talk about in terms of championship hardware and productivity, whether we like it or not, whether we respect his attitude or not, he is a Lakers legend. No, Shep, Shep, legends are, when you say Lakers, Anthony Davis is probably the last person anybody would think of. I mean, the last person I would think of would be like Mike Penberthy. I mean, that's just me personally.

Come on now. But Anthony Davis, let me put it a different way. How JR was trying to explain it to you is how most Laker fans see Anthony Davis. Now I understand what you're saying about the growth spurt and his potential. I tell you what, Anthony Davis should be putting up.

He should be performing like the center from Denver. If he had his attitude instead of his own, then he might become a Laker. And if Anthony Davis had the benefit of being drafted in the second round, like Nikola Jokic during a Taco Bell commercial, yes, there would have been a lot more fuel to the fire.

I give you that. But Anthony Davis has been guilty of being brought up in this country and given too much too soon. I don't fault Anthony Davis for that.

I fault society more for that. We see number one picks all the time as prima donnas by the time they're 18, 19 years old. And I know most people don't like Anthony Davis because he doesn't exude that heart that you're talking about, and he doesn't have the mental toughness that a LeBron James even has.

But based on his productivity and the talent and the championship, whether we like it or not, he does qualify as the Lakers legend. I know you understand where I'm coming from, too. In your eyes. In your eyes.

Let's say in your eyes. When they introduce him, they're not going to say, this is Anthony Davis, a guy who played for the Lakers for five plus years. They're going to say Lakers legend Anthony Davis. No, no, no, no, no, but no, no Laker fans think Anthony Davis, no kind of legend.

Laker fans also don't like LeBron James, so. I think we got to, I think we got to get there. Thank you, Morris, for calling from South Carolina. All right, anytime. Thank you. Yeah.

That was a good call, Morris. Yeah. Yeah. And I think that's the point, Shep. It's like, yeah, you can, they can paint him as that, and he very might well, and that's why I said as of today, ain't no Anthony Davis legend.

It might be that. The Lakers PA addresser might call him that in like 15 years from now, but it's the people. The people call you a legend, and they don't, and I said this a very simple way last night. Ain't nobody care about that man.

That's just it. They cared about him in 2020. Say again? They cared about him in 2020. No, they didn't.

They did not. There has to be a connection, man, between the fan base. The fans have to feel you, okay? Is A-Rod a Yankees legend? No, I wouldn't say so, no. Okay, so by that logic, I will concede that Anthony Davis by that stature is not a Lakers legend.

No. It's not just one in a... A legend is somebody that the fans appreciate, okay? Paul O'Neill is a New York Yankee that obviously was an all-star batting title, would've won another one, or would've won it in 94 if we didn't have that. People appreciated him. He was never the best, best player in baseball in the game. He may have never been, and maybe at points and times, the best dude on the Yankees, but nobody was going to look at Paul O'Neill and go, oh my God, he's the best, the best, the best. He was very good. He was all-star good, but he connected with the fans, the people.

He's etched. They're memories. They feel him. Nobody feels Anthony Davis, and so yes, and crypto.com arena soon to be named something else when that place goes out of business.

When he comes back, they're going to call him Lakers Leia, and people will go, ah, unless he wins some more. You got to feel it. Legends are felt.

It's like music. We got a lot of musicians. We got a lot of people who win Grammys. We got a lot of people who have stats and numbers and records and hits and that. Legends, there's no dispute. If you have to dispute or argue about whether or not somebody is a legend, they're not going to. It's not like some things just speak for itself, and Anthony Davis, he don't got no pull. He don't got that connection with Laker fans, and yeah, oh, people are happy that they won a championship in 2020, but ain't nobody think about him.

Nobody was throwing roses at his feet. They didn't care. I think they care now. They go, oh, you playing? He's not playing.

Oh, what else is new? So you believe that there's no shot, that that Lakers franchise doesn't retire his number? I didn't say that. I said, and I said this last night, I said today to call him a Lakers legend, he has more to do. He does.

This is not out of the realm of possibility. If Anthony Davis just played, I don't know, 40 games this year, 40 games next year, 15 games a year after that, the man's career is done, right? That we don't see him. It is not out of the realm of possibility to think that we have seen the best of Anthony Davis. And based on what we've seen, if his career peters out from here on out, there ain't nothing else. He's done.

Nothing else to add. No Lakers legend, and ain't no thinking about no retirement of a number. He got more to do. Did he ever win a championship? Yes. All-star?

Yes. But at the end of the day, is there a connection to LA? Ain't nobody think about it.

Anthony Davis could go back to Chicago and finish his career, and people in Los Angeles would go. All right, well, thanks for the bubble championship, you and LeBron. And that's it.

There's a little bit more to do. Gotta have some love. It's the JR Sport Reshow here with you on CBS Sports Radio.

We're all about love here. 855-212-4CBS. That's 855-212-4CBS.

That's 855-212-4CBS. We'll be hanging out the rest of the night. How about this? The Chicago Bears actually score. They lead the Panthers 16-10. I'm gonna get to your calls. I'm gonna tell you about somebody on the other side of the break who is a legend. I'll tell you the name then here on CBS Sports Radio. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. JR wants to hear from you. Call him now at 855-212-4CBS.

That's 855-212-4227. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. Before we went to break we were talking about legends. Ain't no legends playing in this Thursday Night Football game. The Chicago Bears lead the Panthers right now 16-10. A little less than two minutes left in the third and Chicago is leading at home.

Let's see if they can go ahead and finish things out. And yeah we were talking about Anthony Davis, whether or not he's a Lakers legend. I say no.

Shep says yes. But this man, there's no question whether or not he's a legend. This man is an icon in his city. He's one of the NBA's greatest players and this man is loved.

He's connected to the city. It's Giannis Atetokounmpo. And last night I'm sure you heard about Giannis and his ejection. He got one technical, he got another technical for taunting. He was tossed out of the game.

He sat around, sat on the stands, he sat in front row arguing with the official like how could this even be possible? Well Giannis bounced back tonight. Last night the Milwaukee Bucks still won despite Giannis' ejection 120-118 over Detroit.

But it was a back to back situation. The Milwaukee Bucks were in action tonight. They lost to the Pacers 126-124. But Giannis Atetokounmpo absolutely lost his mind.

54 points. He did have two turnovers late to kind of seal the game and allow the Indiana Pacers to win. This is a nuts game. I guess Giannis was pretty ticked off after being ejected last night. Listen to the stat line. Oh my God he really went off. In a loss.

It's the part that stinks. 54 points, 12 rebounds. Giannis was 16 of 18 from the free throw line.

He was 19 of 25 from the field. And I told you about those two turnovers late. Giannis had eight turnovers total. Pretty sad.

Pretty pathetic. No Damian Lillard on the back to back tonight. Giannis Atetokounmpo having to go out there and handle the ball. Tyrese Halliburton 29 points, 10 assists. When it comes to getting the boot last night from the game, well his head coach, new head coach of these Milwaukee Bucks, Adrian Griffin, he talked about Giannis getting the boot last night.

Listen to this. Giannis doesn't complain to the refs. He's really respectful to the refs.

I think I'm letting him down in that sense because I think I need to be a little more you know just vocal about doing the games when he's getting hit and kind of stick up for him a little bit better so I've been dropping the ball on that. What a way for a coach to stick up for his player. Well Giannis stuck up for himself tonight. 54 points unfortunately in a loss. I told you about Damian Lillard not playing on the back to back, having a little bit of an apparent calf soreness so no Damian Lillard tonight and I guess Giannis said don't worry, I got this.

They still lost and also good for Giannis not getting ejected tonight. 855-212-4CBS, that's 855-212-4CBS. This is a unique name. Dragon is calling from Ohio, you're on CBS Sports Radio. What's up Dragon? Hey JR, thank God you're on tonight, the voice of reason after a day of the wind up teeth that we're talking all day about the Ravens going to the Super Bowl or they've already got it won and the Bengals are back.

I just have a question for you JR, you already know the answer. What's Joe Burrows record against the Browns? Joe Burrow's record against, isn't he undefeated against the Browns?

He's got his ass whooped. It's the opposite. What is it like one and five?

Yeah and here's what I want to bring up. The Browns played a great game on Sunday. When you're about to see Sunday it's probably the most physical game you'll see all season but I believe the Browns are going to emerge from 30 years of frustration in this game because we talked before about Deshaun Watson, this is the game that he needs to come out in right here.

Well it's nice to actually know that both he and Lamar Jackson will be healthy in the game. I get it, you're calling me from Ohio. Who are you referring to?

You're saying people are just putting the Ravens in the Super Bowl, who are you talking about? Well I call him Windup Teeth because it's Zach Gelb. Okay well he has a name, do you talk to Zach about this? Have you spoken to him? I've sent him some Twitter comments on there but I don't think he'd let me talk to him because it just doesn't sound like he'd like my opinion. Okay, well maybe you should try, I think you should give Zach a little bit of a break. You don't need to necessarily come and vent here about anything about Zach, you can share that with him.

But I don't see no problem, I do agree with you here. The Browns and the Ravens, it should be a tough matchup, we always see this when it comes down to the AFC North and they've got the two best defenses in the league right now. So yeah, it's going to be a physical and tough game. Let's see what happens, I still would favor the Ravens over the Browns this season but maybe this can be a turning point for the Browns now that Deshaun Watson is back. This is what I think is going to happen, I think the Ravens are going to overlook the Browns because they've already beat them and they're going to come in a little bit soft and the Browns are going to hammer them in the first and second quarter. I think that's a fan perspective, these are two teams that punch each other in the mouth and I don't think anybody is stupid enough to think that beating them 28-3 a few weeks ago with no Deshaun Watson out there is anything to overlook. So look, expect a good game as an overall and I don't think an NFL team wakes up and goes, oh yeah, this is going to be a cakewalk, especially not in that division, come on man. Everybody in the AFC North just punches each other in the mouth and don't get me started on the Browns and the record against Burrow because all things considered, do you really feel that your team is all that much better than Cincinnati? I mean if you got to hang your hat on, well this is our record against Burrow, what does that say about you?

Okay, it's like everybody got to get lucky every now and then, right? Let me know when the Browns are winning something consistently. Stop looking at a record against Joe Burrow, what does that matter?

Nothing. Is it winning you a Super Bowl? No it's not.

Is it keeping Deshaun Watson healthy? No it's not. Find something else to hang your hat on. 855-212-4CBS, Vlad is here from Illinois. The number one stunner out of Georgia, what's up man? That's the number one stunner out of Louisiana, that's not me.

Oh, my bad brother. I don't need no beef with Birdman, leave that for him, okay? What's up? Put some respect on his name.

Yeah man, let me talk to you real quick man. Yeah man, this is horrendous what I'm watching right now. Tyson, Bajan, and Fields are absolutely cooked man. I don't have any faith in this guy for the rest of the year with Fields coming back man.

And if he does deliver man, like do we end up drafting another QB like in Pennax or Williams or we just have to pick Fields man, what are you thinking? Oh, that is so tough. There is no answer. I can't sit here and give you an answer. I think that you, oh, that's tough, that really is.

I'm sorry man, I didn't mean to... I don't think you can go like full reset. I think if you can, you take a QB if there is one available. And then if possible, if you can find a sucker, look, you're not going to get the same value back on Justin Fields for what you drafted him for, you know, they swapped up and drafted up with the New York Giants or traded up to get him. You ain't going to get that same return. Like the cat is out of the bag, people have seen him play, it's, you ain't going to get a return. And so it might be a complete loss. It just really stinks.

This is supposed to be Justin Fields evaluation year and we can't evaluate anything if the guy can't hold a football to even go play a game. You know? Yeah, I hear you.

I appreciate that man. We got to break it to Daniel when I win the Super Bowl this year, man, Daniel the Uber driver. Shout out to him.

Oh yeah, I know, right? Daniel the Uber driver, he predicted a Super Bowl victory for the Bears. And let me see the record again. Yeah, two and seven, that means two wins and seven losses. Let's not ask the Uber driver, Daniel, for lottery numbers, okay? All right brother, you have a go, all right?

You as well. Thank you Vlad for calling up from Illinois. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you on CBS Sports Radio, 855-212-4CBS. Speaking of Deshaun Watson, yes, health is a big factor. With him this season, no Fields, there is somebody else playing in the NFC North. He ain't healthy. He said he ain't coming back until he is 100% healthy.

I didn't know NFL players are 100% healthy in the season. You are listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. JR, I would like to say you are the most level headed and coolest sports radio host in the world, man. I love listening to your show. I always get off around this time of night.

Always love to hear your takes. You're always a really cool customer, man. I appreciate your show, bro.

Call in now at 855-212-4CBS. It's the JR Sport Brief Show on CBS Sports Radio. Chicago Bears leading the Panthers 16-13. Less than 10 minutes left in the game out in Chicago. We'll keep you up to date as that game continues and rolls on. I guess if we want to see anything in the game, there are some NFL draft implications.

We'll get into that when we get to the conclusion of the game. We know the Chicago Bears play in the NFC North. There's another team that participates in the NFC North and that happens to be the Minnesota Vikings. Somehow, someway, the Vikings have won four games in a row. Somehow, someway, the Minnesota Vikings have won four games in a row, even though Kirk Cousins, who's been having a career year and a contract year, blew out his Achilles. Somehow, someway, they've won four games in a row, even though Josh Dobbs basically came off of the street, or at least the Arizona Cardinals, and beat the Falcons.

Somehow, someway, they've won four games in a row. When their top receiver, one of the most dynamic players in the NFL, Justin Jefferson, has been out with a busted up hamstring. And so Justin Jefferson, someone who was looked upon as potentially crossing over the 2,000 yard threshold as a receiver, would have been the first dude to do it. Maybe Tyree Killer would do it, maybe A.J.

Brown would do it. Justin Jefferson is now eligible to come off of injured reserve. He's missed the last four games. They got the Saints up next, but Justin Jefferson will not be there. You might have heard this in Marco Valletti's news report, News Flash, Justin Jefferson says I ain't playing until I'm healthy.

Take a listen to this again. It's just all about how I'm feeling and how strong the hamstring is. Hamstring is a difficult injury, just because it lingers.

It comes back from time to time if you don't put the right treatment into it. So the guys and the rest of the coaching staff in this building know my worth on the field, and they want me 100 percent, as I do as well. I don't want to go out there 80, 90 percent and have the chance of hurting it again. So it's just day to day, just like I said, and when that time come, I'll definitely be ready to step out on that field.

Yeah, I'm not mad at them, it's true. Especially for a wide receiver, I mean, this dude is running. He's busting his ass, they gonna hit him.

What's the problem? And I'm not going to take away from anybody else and what they do out on the field, but offensive lineman, we got Andrew Thomas, okay, offensive lineman for the New York Giants. He's chasing after a fumble. This is a gigantic man, 6'2", 6'3", 6'4", 350 pounds, just big as a house. This man's chasing after a fumble, and he pulls his hamstring, he's cooked, been busted up for weeks, and is now rounding himself back into shape right now.

Justin Jefferson might as well be a track star out there with hands, and it's my own personal opinion, maybe not his. Minnesota Vikings, I don't care how many games they've won, they ain't going anywhere, come on. Not even with Josh Dobbs off the street, it's a very Falcons thing to do, allowing the team the letter QB, who's been there for two days, beat him, 8-5-5, 2-1-2 for CBS, Eric is calling from Texas. What's up, Eric? You're on CBS Sports Radio. Hey, how you doing tonight? I'm very well.

What's on your mind? I was thinking about the quarterback situation with all these football teams, and we're seeing all these, like I watch a lot of college football and listen to a lot of college football, and I don't recognize a lot of these quarterbacks. You remember way back when the commanders drafted RG3 in the first round, and then Kirk Cousins in the third round? Yes, I do, certainly, yeah.

Everybody's jaw kind of dropped from that, but I think it was kind of brilliant. With quarterback being the most important position, I would think more teams would put, do you think more teams should put more equity, draft stock into drafting quarterbacks? What in the same draft?

Yeah, or even if you don't have a top five quarterback, like just draft it from every year until you hit, like Purdy or Brady, or at least a good backup. I mean, well, look, I mean, every team has backups. Every team has dudes on a practice squad.

I mean, here tonight on Chicago, we see, we see Bajan. We see for the San Francisco 49ers, Brock Purdy getting his time to shine. You know, here's the thing, you can draft somebody, but there's no guarantee that they're going to really get a chance and an opportunity to play.

Somebody has to go down. Those first team reps are going to go to one guy, and everybody else is a backup regardless of where they got them from. And so I don't know when you're trying to fill out a 53-man roster if drafting the QB is the best bet, because every team is going to be dropping QBs. These are, these spots, they're not limitless. They're very few of them, man. I just think that, like, let's say Goff would go down and Hen and Hooker would come in the game and be like, whoa, let's watch Hen and Hooker, you know, it'd be a little bit more exciting.

Yeah, it happens, man. It does happen, but there's no guarantee that these guys are going to get the spots. Let's think about this. Even if we take a look at every single starting quarterback in the NFL, how many of the QBs are, would you say, are firmly cemented, 10 to 15?

And that's maybe even pushing it. And everybody else is pretty much up for grabs, you know, it's, ain't no, ain't no guarantees here. Okay. All right, sir. Have a good show. You as well. Thank you, Eric, for calling from Texas. Man, it's, it's not easy.

It really isn't. Two thirds of the NFL, if they had an opportunity to get a new quarterback, they probably would. Two thirds, two thirds. I'm just, let's think about the teams playing now. If the Chicago Bears had an opportunity to upgrade over fields, they would. Kyle on the Panthers, they hope they have their guy in Bryce Young.

So they're kind of like, ah, we don't know yet. Let's think about some of the teams that we've seen this week. I mean, the New York Jets, you want to tell me that they weren't happy to bring in Aaron Rogers and plays as Zach Wilson.

They're miserable that they got to watch this guy play right now. There might be a point that there aren't even enough great starting quarterbacks to cover the entire league. One thing you never hear about, think about this, NFL never gets into expansion.

The NFL typically does relocation. Man, you can't break down this talent pool anymore than what it already is. You got to leave certain things alone as the Panthers have the ball and try to look like an NFL team. Chicago Bears leading the Panthers right now, 16 to 13, about six and a half minutes left in this game that America is, I'm sure, loving oh so much. It's the JR Sport Reshow here with you on CBS Sports Radio, going to be rolling with you for the next three hours. We're going to talk about this game, get into more football. Kyler Murray, he is coming back, unlike Justin Jefferson. And on the other side of the break, we have another college coach who might be in trouble.
