All you have to say is play the Infinity Sports Network. Um Not good news. For Yankees fans. You have had just one hit. Since the second inning, and you gave up A double courtesy of Alex Breckman, which scored the Red Sox's third run.
of this particular game. Uh this is not what you signed up for. If you are a New York Yankees fan considering You came in. With an Eighth game winning streak. Nobody finished the season hotter.
You have averaged over six runs. In the last four years. 14 games you have played. You have not scored one run. In any of the of the last 12 games that you have played.
And you have this kind of a showing. In the first game of the postseason, in the house that Ruth built, Second stadium edition. This is not pretty if you are a New York Yankees fan, and you can't blame and point the finger at Aaron Judge. Because Aaron Judge is one of the four Yankees With a head. in this particular game.
So this is a real shame because you have Max Freed on the mound. On Tuesday, a 19-game winner. No one has won more. He was great, 104 pitches. Six and one-third innings, zero runs given up.
He was the ace. That the Yankees hoped he would be in October, filling the void in the shoes of Garrett Cole.
So to lose and squander this game when he comes out and pitches such a gem. Is disappointing on multiple levels. And the fact that the Red Sox, they also happen to be your biggest rivalry, for you to allow them to come in. and score three unanswered runs from the seventh inning on. Is an incredible disappointment.
We will certainly keep you afloat and make you aware of what takes place with the Yankees and Red Sox and how it finishes. I guess the theme of this particular hour is Isn't it good? to be a New York sports fan. Because if you're a New York sports fan, The Giants are one in three. And the New York Jets, even worse, are O and four.
and to add insult to injury, That should not have been an 0-4 start for New York. They should have won against Pittsburgh at home in week one. and they should have beaten the Dolphins in week four in Miami.
Now you credit Tua Tonga Vailoa. Because he was, I thought, playing feisty. Playing with stones, playing with no fear. You saw him get really hit late when he declared himself down. Still, a Jets defender comes out his helmet.
Tua just bounces right back up. He's smiling ear to ear. You could tell that was Tua in his element, not playing scared. Not feeling like the game is too much for him. And when you see signs where he's enjoying himself out there, especially after taking an incredibly cheap shot to the head.
You know that Tua is feeling quite good as a Miami Dolphins starting quarterback, and a reason why he's feeling even better Is he's got a new weapon, six foot six tight end Darren Waller. Not once, but twice using that six foot six frame to make two impressive catches in the end zone to ultimately put this team out in front 17-3. This is how the first touchdown sounded in the first half. Courtesy of Westwood One. And Tua loves this particular Dolphins' debut from Darren Waller.
Take a listen to the first touchdown catch. Playclock down to eight as they break the huddle. Ingle to the left of Tungabailoa in the shotgun. Takes a snap. Looks to his right.
Back middle. Back of the end zone. It is. Fight for and caught it. Touchdown.
Going up high. And guess who? It's the big body Darren Waller with his first score as a dolphin. Bacha, you're uh you're very adroit. when it comes to sound Does he not sound exactly like his dad?
Oh, he's exactly. Noah is a clone. Of his dad. God, and they sound so similar.
Well, he's got half his DNA, but either way, the mannerisms are the exact same. It's unbelievable. It's unbelievable. Speaking of unbelievable, Darren Waller had not played. in nearly two years.
And he already had Has as many touchdown receptions this season as any other Dolphins position player. And this was the second touchdown in the second half for Darren Waller, putting the Dolphins up 17-3. Again, courtesy of Westwood One, not with Ian Eagle, with Noah Eagle. Waddle on the right side, eye formation with Ingold. Tunkabiloa takes a snap play action, rolling to his right, throws across his body for the end zone, touchdown.
Darren Waller again! His first game back from retirement and he's got a double action to the end zone. Duffins extend the lead to 16-3. Speaking of double action, Botcher, I got to come in here for one second with this Yankees Red Sox update.
So. You saw I believe it was Paul Goldschmidt, who had Uh single. And then judge. Comes up in singles.
So now make it a multiple-hit game for Aaron Judge.
So far, so good. for the soon-to-be ALMVP. And what we are witnessing is, oh my god, a single. into left field Goldschmidt is held up at third base. Cody Bellinger.
has the Yankees with the bases loaded Nobody out. Damn. I thought Eroldess Chapman was supposed to be the answer for the socks.
Well, he has his demons at Yankee Stadium in the playoffs, of course. But on top of that,. For a guy who is up there in age and up and down. 37, I believe, right? 37, close to there.
But either way, for a guy. to come in Throw six pitches and sit down. For an inning, a half an inning? It's pretty bad. It's pretty bad, especially for a guy who's known for his inconsistent control.
So uh I I get it. He's arguably a top three lever this year. Yeah. But you gotta you gotta be ready to replace him and botch her. And you can speak to this even as a Mets fan.
Everyone knows if there is one bat you trust the most. on this Yankees squad. It's the guy that's had 20-plus home runs since the month of July. I don't trust anyone in a bigger spot than John Carlos Nanton. Especially with the Yankees here.
I think, besides Judge, of course, because he's the regular season MVP, Stanton is by far. Their best postseason player. This has turned into an unbelievable game, Botcher. I mean, the Yankees had one hit. One hit.
uh from innings three Through eight. They get up. in the most pressurized situation, Bottom of the ninth inning. They lead it off with three consecutive Hits. That's stones, man.
That is not letting the moment get too big. That is taking one pitch at a time, one bat at a time. And as I say this, Jean-Carlos Stanton is down. to just one Strike.
So much for for the broadcast janks not being prevalent. Come on, Stanton. We will keep you posted on this. What a game, folks. Aroldus Chapman looking to get John Carlos Stanton out for the first out, and it's a, wow, he was throwing the heater.
96, 97. Aaron John Carlos Stanton was looking for four on that particular swing. Folks, this is unbelievable what we are watching right now. I can't believe this is a wild card game. You have the Yankees with the highest payroll in the American league, a team that won eight games.
Was leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else when it came to runs differential. And you have the Red Sox, the biggest rivalry for the Yankees, and this is what we were getting. In the wild card round, I can't even imagine what the divisional round is going to be like. And Aroldus Chapman. is looking to get John Carlos Stanton out.
And he gets him swinging. And Shep, you did it again. You jinxed your New York Yankees. I'm not going to talk about this game anymore, hoping that that's going to actually do the trick. What did the trick for the Miami Dolphins against the New York Jets?
was a consistent ground game. and Devon A. Chain. Coming out with a season high 99 yards, certainly showing everybody. That they can absolutely win in both phases of the game on offense, not just with the passing aerial game, but of course with the run game.
Proved to be the difference because the Jets, to their credit, They actually showed up in the second half. They scored three in the first, they scored 18 in the second.
So, what you see from Miami. is a team that has not quit on each other. They have not quit on their head coach. And unfortunately, the devastating news in this particular game was, of course, Tyreek Hill dealing with the dislocated knee, coming out with multiple ligaments that were injured, including a torn ACL. He's not going to be back for 2025.
His agent did come out to Rosenhaus and make it abundantly clear he is expected to play in 2026.
So that's good news because, you know, a receiver in his early 30s, you don't want this to see the end for him.
So that was really good that he's going to be back for 2026. But if you are the Miami Dolphins what you did really well was, I thought, defensively, Really show up with the blitz package and make the life of Justin Fields difficult. And remember, if not for that incredible 43-yard run by Justin Fields, where only one or two other quarterbacks can make in the NFL, and a career-high 58-yard field goal from Nick Falk, you would have shut out the Jets in the first three quarters.
So there's a lot to hang your hat on if you are Miami.
Now, I understand you're one and three, but you got some games coming up which are incredibly winnable. When you talk about facing the Panthers, facing the Browns. Facing the Los Angeles Chargers, who right now do not exactly have the best, most upstanding offensive line. They are suspect, they are vulnerable.
So you could very easily be four and four in three weeks from now. And considering this was a team. Out number two for the Yankees. And considering this was a team that a lot of people had firing their head coach two weeks ago for them to look like they have a little bit of life in them and that momentum is finally on their side. You gotta feel really good.
If you are the Miami Dolphins. I know that you're not satisfied with just being one and three. Tell us about how you see this team improving even from this win. The exact thing that every team has to do. regardless of what anyone says.
You know, in September, moving into October, you need to. Firmly develop your football, continue to get better regardless of result. No, that's a fair statement, Mike McDaniel. And what I'll also say is There was a little bit of let up in that fourth quarter, and this is where the Jets have to be more on top of things. This is where they have to be more aggressive.
This is where they have to let loose in terms of their play calling. Not everything can be a pass to the flat, not everything can be a quarterback draw up the middle. And I don't know if the Jets realize this, but they have Garrett Wilson, who is their best playmaker. You cannot have one target for Garrett Wilson in the first half and expect to compete. In the AFC.
It's just not going to happen.
So I'm glad that Justin Fields was able to make passes like this. to Garrett Wilson and it was pinpoint accurate. It was in a place where only Garrett could corral the football, and this particular pass actually made it. A six-point game. And this is what you signed up for when you elected to name Justin Fields your starting quarterback because we all know the athleticism is there.
What is underrated about his game is his deep throwing ability and his accuracy to airtight windows. But don't be mistaken or confused. Hopefully this bears witness in terms of what he can do with his arm. This made it a six-point game, courtesy of the Jets radio network. Second down and 10 at the Dolphin 23, minute 56 to go.
Here comes a blitz, Fields back to throw. Lobs one back right corner of the end zone. Garrett Wilson pulls it in. Toe tapped. Touchdown!
The Jets are still alive! It's kinda like the Yankees right now. Down to their final out, but still alive. That, of course, courtesy of the Jets Radio Network. What you have to be.
impressed about Is not The Yankees having the bases loaded, And not being able to produce a single run as Aroldas Chapman strikes out Trent Grisham. in what is a very disappointing three to one loss that the Yankees have at the hands of the Red Sox. What is disappointing about the other New York team that we are referencing right now is Justin Fields. played I thought a really good second half. But you can't as a team.
have 13 penalties. You can't, as a team, have three turnovers on the road. and expect to win. You can't be your own worst enemy. And a lot of these penalties were self-inflicted.
They weren't effort-type plays. They were penalties in which you were hitting Tua when he was already on the ground and the play was clearly over. These were penalties that were pre-snap, false starts, situations that never should be happening at this point of the season in game number four. Penalties that you're getting because you're coming out of a timeout and you don't know what formation you're supposed to be in. Penalties that you're just absolutely, you know, getting taking out your frustration on guys on the ground for no apparent reason.
And To me, There were boneheaded decisions, not just relating and pertaining to penalties. You saw the Jets special teams. It's called a fair catch. at their own two-yard line. I mean, you know in pop warner if a punt is coming and it's anywhere near the end zone, you let it fall in, you don't fair catch it.
At the two-yard line.
So there's a lot of room to grow. If you are New York, please But the fact that you were still able to stay in this game in the second half That is a telling sign. And Justin Fields is a franchise quarterback. I'm not calling him one of the game's best, I'm not calling him elite. But you saw him go on that 18-point tear in the second half, not just with the legs, but with the arm.
And that's what the Jets are going to have to build on. And they have to introduce themselves again to Garrett Wilson because it is inexcusable when you are 0-3 for your number one asset and weapon to be targeted just once in the first half. Half.
So Aaron Glenn, he was pleased with the effort. but not with the sloppiness. Very disappointing. I'm very disappointed. And there's no way way.
You can win any game. with thirteen penalties and three turnovers. It just can't happen. Um But what we have to do is go back to work. It's kinda what I said.
It's almost like he's listening to the show In the metaverse. Just saying, what I'm also pleased with again. is the temperament Of Justin Fields. He never gets too high. He never gets too low.
You saw his offensive lineman committing penalty after penalty. He wasn't showing them up. He wasn't blowing up their spot. He was talking to them in a very stoic manner on the sideline each and every time. I'm impressed.
Outside of that Bills game, I think Justin Fields is playing the best football of his career. Aaron Glenn, you certainly spoke about the performance of your starting quarterback after this particular loss. Let's hear what the head coach had to say about JF. I thought he did some really good things. I mean, obviously, he was running around out there and made some plays with his feet.
I thought he, um, Towards the end of that game, man, he was dealing the ball pretty well. But I really want to look at the tape and look at the decisions and things like that and see exactly how he operated. But to me, just from the naked eye, look pretty good. Is it the wow? No he didn't.
Oh, my God Shohei Otani. with a first inning blast. putting the Dodgers up one to nothing, Hey, let me run something by you, botcher. I know Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman are both MVPs in their own right and still playing at an extremely high level. But who led the National League with 55 home runs?
Or excuse me, he was one shy of Kyle Schwarber. Who put up 55 home runs this year for the Dodgers? Though Tani. Why explain this to me? You're a baseball guy.
Why is he leading off? Because he gets the most at-bats.
So when you when you look at the math around it Otani will have the most at-bats in the Dodgers roster if he bats first. Because because he's the best player, right? Obviously, we know this.
Well, that's not true. It's just he has the combination of stolen bases, though he only has twenty this year or around twenty. Because he wasn't 50-50 like last time. Yeah, of course. Because he's pitching now, so he doesn't want to get hurt.
Right.
So If he has to, he can steal a base. He's great at going first to third. He can round first to home on a double if need be. And he provides power, and you get him to bat more. I think it's just, it lines up perfectly.
Because I'm thinking to myself, it's not exactly like Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman or the Bash brothers all of a sudden.
So. I'm thinking this guy has 55 home runs, and as I say that, Mookie Betts shuts me up and gets on base with his first hit of the game. This is the opposite of what the Yankees did from innings number three to innings number eight. I was telling you, Botcher, I don't think this is going to be a very competitive series. It's a minor miracle that the Reds were able to get in.
In the first place, considering it's been 12 years since they have even been in the postseason when they have had a 162-game regular season schedule. A lot of it has to do with De La Cruz. I think they got a lot of talent, Austin Hayes. Certainly their manager, Tito, aka Terry Francona, getting there in season number one and steering them to this shocking playoff appearance. But you're just going against talent, you know, the most talented team we have in all of baseball.
I know the Brewers and the Phillies have the better record. But you cannot tell me there is another team in all of baseball that is more talented than what we are seeing from the Dodgers these past two seasons. Yeah, no, and then they continue to spend on talent too. But that's not the question. I just think that the Reds They didn't win their way into the postseason.
They kind of fell the Mets lost though for the season spot. I think When the reds are 40 and 40 from June on. You kind of I don't want to say you luck into the playoff spot. But you got a helping hand. From a potential collapse from the Mets.
Yeah. And not to mention that they lost. Their last game to get in, they were bailed out by the Marlins. Yeah. Which was their World Series, by the way.
Yeah, that's you don't love that. Here's my thing that's my thing. If you win, celebrate. The Marlins aren't going to win another World Series in our lifetime. You know how they operate as a business.
The fact that they even pulled it out in 97 and 2003, that's not happening anytime soon. It's just not. No, but you play to, like, I don't quote, like, you play to win the game. I know her. Her job is to play baseball games and win and contribute that.
No player is going to go out there and say, hey, I'm going to go 0 for 4 today because, you know, the Mets want to get in the postseason. They want to go, okay, I want to get three hits. Maybe I hit an incentive. Goal on my contract. Maybe I can get out of Miami potentially.
Right.
It's just. Going in there and expecting a team to lay down because you want to make the postseason and not expect them to act like it's the World Series, every game should be the World Series. in baseball. Yeah, but but it's a flawed product, Botcher, because while that should be true in theory, When you have teams, that have one sixth the payroll. of other squads.
It's not a fair fight.
So, while we're sitting here and saying the Marlins shouldn't be celebrating because they were able to pull off an offset against the Mets and deprive them of making it to back-to-back postseasons, That to them means everything. Because they don't have the same runway. And opportunities as the Boston Red Sox or the Chicago Cubs or Los Angeles Dodgers or the Philadelphia Phillies. Because botcher, their payroll. Is about one-fifth of all those teams that I just mentioned.
So, this to them, This is equivalent to their World Series. They're not getting another shot like this anytime soon. Yeah, but either way, it's just For the it's more the S and Y team complaining. Gotcha. you can handle if their if their World Series is facing you, And you're the big bad Mets?
Take care of business. Right.
Don't. gets shut out. Versus the Marlins in a do-or-die game. Yeah, I'm with you 100% on that. Number to join us: 888-710-4ISN, 888-710-4476.
Speaking of shutouts, There was almost a shout out. on Monday Night Football. And I know there's even more appreciation for Joe Burrow after an incredibly disappointing performance. From Jake Browning and the Cincinnati Bengals. We will get to that on the other side.

This indeed is David Shepard in for the great JR Sport Brief right here on the Infinity Sports Network. We're taking your calls all show, 888-710-4ISN, 888-710-4476. Always a pleasure to be filling in for my guy, JR, and to be alongside Ryan Botcher. There was another Monday night football game. As we look at the bangles.
who are nothing. without Joe Burrow. Uh Jake Browning, who's one of the better backup quarterbacks in the NFL. finishes with just 125 yards. and through two starts is averaging 6.5 points per game for Cincinnati.
That is what a franchise quarterback does for you. in the form of Joe Burrow, when he averages 28 points per game last season for Cincinnati. It's clearly obvious. They are deficient right now. At the quarterback position, and without Joe Burrow, you are going next to nowhere.
He cannot come back soon enough. from that toe turf injury. And the truth of the matter is. this was not a fair fight. Because Jake Browning is just so different In terms of skill set, in terms of an ability to read a defense, in terms of pre-snap motion, in terms of even being a flat out competitor, then Joe Burrow, who's one of the four best quarterbacks on planet Earth.
And so, this was a very disappointing outcome. If you are, of course, Cincinnati, the game was 21-3 in favor of Denver at halftime, and that's with an interception thrown in the end zone by Bo Nix. But I'll tell you something. If you're Denver, You have something to look forward to this year. You have Marvin Mins Jr.
You have Cortland Sutton. You got some dogs. on this team. And Dobbins is a pretty good running back. as well.
So if you are the Broncos, you very well know You botched a special teams opportunity when you stopped the Colts initially. On that game-winning field goal kick. You move them up five yards, they end up making it. You should have won that game. You're up by, I believe it was seven points against the Chargers late in the fourth quarter.
You gave up 10 unanswered points in the final three minutes. You lose that game on a field goal as time expired.
So, yeah, you're two and two record-wise, very easily could have been for a And oh, that's really the only takeaway from the other Monday night football game. It was not competitive. It was not entertaining. It was not a back and forth. The baseball games so far on Tuesday have been substantially better than the Monday night football game, at least the second act.
The Jets and Dolphins actually turned out to be pretty competitive. And so for me, when I talk to people like Sean Payton, I I want to hear what he has to say. After a win like this, when he's not throwing other head coaches under the bus, hi, Nathaniel Hackett. Let's take a listen to Sean Payton. after the win.
Early in the season. All of them. All thirty-one other teams are really working to figure out who they are. We're no different. Um But it certainly was a step in the right direction.
Does he sound like he won the game or lost the game? I think he was bored from facing the bangle. That's being honest. You talk about a tepid demeanor. My God.
I know this guy never has a tepid demeanor. Marco Valletti, how you doing, man? What'd you say, Chef? Uh listen, I don't have to bring up the Yankees. You obviously are very familiar with what just happened.
Base is loaded. Ninth inning, no asking. I know. Is there any silver lining to take away from this game? From the Yankees' perspective?
is judge He is to me Knocking off a lot of skeletons right now. emptying out a lot of bad baggage. Going two for five, that says something to me that we're seeing at least a different Aaron Judge. I know it's a disappointing loss. Is there a silver lining that you can take away from this loss?
That he had two hits? Yeah, that's helpful because the fact that he's a 200 career postseason hitter, yeah. But I mean, they still lost and they he still had a chance and they didn't come through.
So it's a small thing, it's not a big thing. And if you lose tomorrow and you get sent home, if he has another single, like I'm sorry, like I can't. Those are things that are nice if we're doing, you know, we have six months and 162 games when it's a postseason series. If you're telling me you got like a long run, you play 12 games and you hit 500.
Okay, let me, you know, Barry Bonds of 2002, I get it. One game to get two singles. That's a small sliver of a whole hell of a lot of nothing, is what that is. And then to add insult to injury, the other MVP of the MLB. comes out and at bet number one and hits a home run.
So I mean, Shohail Tani, obviously, can't make it up. Judge, unfortunately, when you're as good as he is and you're Superman in general, if you don't put the cape on, it's not good enough.
So, I'm not taking, I'm not putting the loss on him. There's no reason to put anything of what happened for the Yankees tonight on Aaron Jones. He made a great play in the field by any stretch of the imagination. It's just the idea that when you lose, and then the first thing you say after you lose is, Well, he's judging two singles, then you know you're in Loserville. That's what that is because you're talking about nonsense at that point.
So Th that's that that's fair. If if I'm If I'm a Yankees fan, if I'm a biggest Yankees cynic, And I just saw this team roll off eighth straight.
Now granted, it's not against exactly the most superior competition, but eighth straight is still eighth straight. They had not scored fewer than one run in the last ten games. The last twelve, they've averaged more than six runs per game. I did not see this squad the way they have been looking. Finishing with just one hit.
Past the second inning. No one could have seen this coming.
Well, against Crochet, you mean, because they did load the bases with three straight singles against Chapman in the ninth. You're right. But that's. That's the problem, it was Garrick Crochet. And that's the same thing when we talk about the lineup.
And that's not a knock to the Yankee lineup, but that's also what you face in the postseason. When you face a guy like Crochet, when you face a guy like Schoolbull, when you face a guy like there are. Aces that there's a reason why they throw game one in the playoffs to set the tone. Max Freed was able to match and set the tone with Crochet. The Yankee lineup did nothing after the Volpe Homer, and they didn't get another hit until the Volpe single.
Like you said, until the set. That's. 17 straight for crochet. They had no answer, none. And they didn't make him work that hard.
That's why he got into seven and two thirds. He got to the eighth inning. They didn't have to use any bullpen guys, they went crochet to Chapman. That's the you can't ask for a better recipe. For Alex Cora, and he knew what he was doing by going to Chapman there because it kept all the Yankee lefties on the bench.
Except for Jazz Chisholm, who they used as a defensive replacement and wind up biting them in the fact that they didn't have Rosario to play it against Chapman in the ninth inning with the bases loaded. The Yankees were stuck into a corner because they never got out from what the Red Sox wanted to do, which was crochet to Chapman. But you know what? If if I'm talking about one guy That I want up there in a big spot, base is loaded, moment is big, lights are bright. I'm trusting John Carlos Stanton to get in a run.
I am shocked. That he struck out. I'm shocked. I couldn't believe that. He is a guy that does strike out too.
He's been tremendous in the postseason. Last year's run was over the moon. Let's give some credit to Roland Chapman. I mean, the fact that I don't know. You know, and Juardo Perez made a couple of comments during the broadcast.
I know you can't hear it. Obviously, you're on the air. Right.
It was true. Chapman usually comes in and he looks like he's been running a marathon. Like he's lathered up. I mean, he's sweating. I mean, we've been watching it for 15 years.
I feel he came in and he was bone-dry. It almost looked like a boxer when they were bone-drying. It was like, whoa, something's not right. And it took him a while. And all of a sudden, after he gave up three singles, He was all live it up.
And it was Roland's Chapman, the guy that's been so dominant this year. Dotting fastballs, and then when you throw that splitter. After dotting 101, he was throwing 95 in the eighth inning. He's throwing 101 in the ninth. 37, 37 years old, throwing over 100 miles per hour.
Think about that. And changes the inning from inning to inning: 95 in the eighth inning, 101 in the ninth, and then he drops that splitter. Ah, yeah. I mean, look, that's tough. That's tough.
Yeah, I never thought I'd say this, but Yankees fans are missing a Rodis Chapman right about now. Number to join us: 888710. That's the same guy for the last four years. You got that right.
Something about these athletes leaving New York, all of a sudden, they become for two in his route. Don't forget Texas. He wasn't exactly the World Series champion. Yeah, with the Rangers. He wasn't exactly the lockdown closer for that team, was he?
That's fair. Bruce Poce had something to do with that World Series as well. 888, Marcus Simeon, as well as Adolius Garcia. 888-710-4ISN, 888-710-4476. We will get to your calls on the other side.
We will certainly preview even more of this Dodgers Reds game. And as you heard it from Marco, number one at bat, Shohei in the postseason. Things it. Home run, that's how you set the table as an MVP. We'll get to that on the other side.

You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. Here's David Shepard. Welcome back, everybody. This is David Shepard on the Infinity Sports Network. Great to be alongside you, however and wherever you may be listening from.
To me This has been the ultimate showdown on Tuesday with the four. MLB playoff games in the wild card round. what it means to have an ace as your pitcher. and to watch Tariq Schoovel do what he did. 7 1 3rd innings.
14 strikeout, which is an MLB wild card. record By the way. for him to just go out there and dominate Against the Guardians, a team That had beaten the Tigers five of their last six games, a team that had come in going 20 and 7 in the month of September, both. Organizations very different directions down the final stretch of the last month of the season. And yet it's Detroit that still's a game at Progressive Field.
And it's because you have arguably the best pitcher in all of baseball. And speaking of best pitchers in baseball, Garrett Crochet. Certainly one of them. He was lights out. Against the Yankees outside of that solo home run he gave up to Anthony Volpe, between innings number three and eight, gave up just one hit.
In all. Pretty remarkable performance. From your ace, there's a reason why he won 18 games. And listen, you gotta credit Max Freed. 19 wins this regular season, most in the MLB.
He did his part. Unfortunately, the bullpen fell apart for New York, and they could not get a hit to save their life minus the ninth inning. And even when you do get three straight hits and load the bases with zero outs in the bottom of the ninth, You have Stanton go down, you have Jazz Chisholm Jr. go down, and then you have Trent Grisham go down one, two, three. That was all she wrote.
Araldus Chapman, 37 years old, still getting it done. Another save for Araldus Chapman in the postseason, a four-out save at that. The Red Sox, because of the incredible durability, longevity, and dominant performance of Garrett Crochet, they only needed two pitchers to have a one-run win against the New York Yankees, which is even more impressive when you consider the fact. that the Yankees, the last 10 games, were averaging more than six runs per contest and had not scored fewer than two runs in their last 12, also coming into this particular postseason as the hottest team in all of baseball with an eight-game win streak. And so fans were not anticipating this because fans were anticipating the Yankees taking out the Red Sox in two games.
But that's not going to happen now because we know who won game number one. We know who had the even more dominant pitching performance. And we know what bats showed up when it mattered most. That, of course, is courtesy of the Boston Red Sox. And this final call is courtesy of the Red Sox Radio Network.
Two balls, two strikes, two down with the bases loaded. Chapman. He is ready. He throws. That ball slowly.
He got him! Chapman leaves the bases loaded and the Red Sox win game one 3-1 in the Bronx. An absolute gem from Crochet. Yoshida a huge hit and a dramatic yet thrilling save for Chapman. That's a very comprehensive, extensive call right there.
Well done on the Red Sox Radio Network. And you credit Boston because you remember what you witnessed the last time they played in Yankee Stadium when three of the first four games of their series, they outscored the Pinstripes 19-4 and obviously won convincingly 3-0 in the first three games played. This is why you need that one big swing. And while Aaron Judge deserves no criticism and no malignment, it would have been nice to see Aaron Judge give you one. Bloop.
That was the case. With the Los Angeles Dodgers, was Shohei Otani going deep against the Reds in his first at-bat. And then it always helps when you have Mookie Betts getting on base, but it also helps when you have your ace out there in Blake Snell. And as I've been explaining, You know, this is a very special postseason because you have a lot of things. that could transpire.
that have never happened before. in MLB postseason history. One of those things would be the second seeded Seattle Mariners in the American League. Getting to their first ever World Series. It's never happened before.
They haven't won that NOS division since 2001.
So there's a lot of people in the Pacific Northwest That are gonna be rooting very hard for Seattle to have that taste of a World Series. And when you think about all the talent that has been comprised of the Seattle Ameriners, the Ken Griffey Jr.s of the world, Jay Bueners, Edgar Martinez, Randy Johnson, Alex Rodriguez, Ichiro Suzuki, and then you talk about the modern day guys, Kyle Raleigh, right? Jinio Suarez, you talk about Julio Rodriguez, like there's so many guys. on this particular squad. that are unbelievable, some of the best in baseball.
And for them to have never played In a World Series is mind-boggling. Even when they won 116 games, they still couldn't make a World Series back in 2001.
So, this is going to be very enticing to see what happens with the Mariners. And then you talk about the Milwaukee Brewers: 97 wins. franchise that has been around the sport of baseball since the 1960s. They have never had 97 wins in a season Until 2012. Yeah.
And they're led by a manager named Pat Murphy, who has not. Got a full-time role in the bigs as a manager until his mid-60s. And look at what he has done with this organization, making the very most of it, winning. The National League Manager of the Year last year, and more than likely winning it again this year. We'll see what happens with votes for Terry Francona.
We'll see what happens with votes for the Phillies and Rob Thompson. But I like Pat Murphy's chance to do this, considering how devastating it was when they ended their season in 2024 to a three-run home run opposite field, courtesy of Pete Alonzo, when they were this close to getting to the divisional round.
So it's really exciting if you're a Brewers fan. And then, as we currently are watching the Los Angeles Dodgers as Shohei Otani. Is up for his second at that. That's Freddie Freeman.
Okay, Sreddie Freeman is up for his second at bat of the night. What you are seeing from the Dodgers. is a team that didn't necessarily perform as well as they could have in the regular season. And because of that, I think a lot of people are doubting them right now. Whether they have the ability to get by the Phillies, the Brewers, the Padres, if the Padres are able to get back off the snide and actually compete with the Chicago Cubs.
But if you are the Dodgers, you're looking to do something for the first time this century, and that is go back to back. And it always, always helps. When you have your MVP, Shohail Tani, set in the tone by hitting. Hit a home run in his first at-bat. Against the Cincinnati Reds.
And the Reds have been a really cool story. You have Ellie De La Cruz. A lot of people consider him to be a rising superstar, but you just don't have the talent of a Shohei, of a Mookie Betts, of a Freddie Freeman, of an Eddie Pahez, of an individual like Clayton Kershaw coming out at 37 years old, can still go 11-2 in any given season. And they're so talented, he's not even on this particular postseason roster in the wild card round with Glasnow, with Yashinovu, Yamamoto, and then, of course, Blake Snell.
So, this Dodgers team is loaded when it comes to talent, looking to do something for the first time since 1999 and 2000. when the Yankees were the last to win back-to-back. World Series.
So there's a lot of potential storylines that can unfold. And I know we are going to be on the edge of our seat. Watching these playoff games. And when you talk about the power. From these squads, the Kyle Schwarber combination with Bryce Harper from Philly.
Bryce Harper hasn't won a World Series yet. You know that is the only thing left to check off on his illustrious career. And then you talk about a team like the Toronto Blue Jays. They have not played in a World Series since 1993. They have 94 wins this year.
It's the most amount of wins they have had since that season, where they won 94 games and went to a World Series with the famous touch-em-all, Joe Carter. You'll never hit a bigger one line.
So, I am very excited to see what pans out in this particular postseason. We already had an incredibly magical regular season with Kyle Rowley becoming the first catcher to ever hit 60 home runs in a season. Aaron Judge having the most home runs ever for a winner of a batting title. And I cannot wait to see. how the postseason takes it to a whole nother level.
And if Tuesday is any indicator of what is to transpire, we are in for a popcorn party and a must-watch television appointment setting when it comes to this 2025 MLB playoffs. Ryan Botcher, thank you so much for a wonderful job out of you on the ones and twos and producing. My sincere thanks to everyone who called and who tweeted. Do not go anywhere. Bart Winkler, he's coming up next.
