That's gonna takes some getting used to. We even heard from his agent On television earlier today.
So we got a lot to get into, a lot to break down. College football season is underway. People are looking at Alabama going in there cooked. A matter of fact, how about this? In 20 minutes, we're going to have a conversation.
with Dan Wolkin. From Yahoo, covers all things college football.
Next hour. We're going to have a chat with Grant Hughes. From Tar Heel twenty four seven. Later in the show we'll also have a conversation with Bill Huber. Who covers all things packers for Sports Illustrated.
We got a lot of football to get into. NFL season is upon us. Starts in two days. Can't believe it. College football season is here.

I exist on the internet. I am everywhere. I am at J.R. Sport brief.
So much football So much time. There's so much going on. What a day what a week at Good to be back. Uh Bacha, good to be back with you. You doing okay?
Doing great. It felt like forever since we've had a show together. Eh, wa was it? Was it Wednesday or Thursday? I don't know.
It was last Wednesday. Wednesday, yeah. Time time flies. You know, over this holiday weekend, I I think I saw a couple leaves fly by, I mean, here in Atlanta, of course, the weather's pretty, pretty temperate all year long, even in the wintertime. But I was saying to myself, Are these are these leaves?
Are the trees already? Is it in my brain? Are they starting to dry out? Time is a flying. And so, yes, it's good to be back here with you.
How much of the football? There's a lot of football that took place over the weekend. How much of it did you see?
So I watched about the first quarter and a half of Texas, Ohio State. I had to drive to the Mets game and get a bobblehead, so I was in. lines for forever. Watched the complete game of Miami, Notre Dame. Other than that, I jumped in and out between other games.
Yeah, it was a lot of football. Who whose bobblehead was it at City Field? It was Lindor, so it wasn't like the worst bobblehead. Does it look like him? Yeah, it's him fielding a ground ball and like you can like slide his location on the bobblehead depending on how close you want the ball to be to his glove.
Oh, bobbleheads are fancy now about that. Oh, damn, bobbleheads are fancy. I wonder when Bill, I'm pretty sure they're going to have a Bill Belichick night. They're gonna have a Bill Belichick bobblehead at some point. I have no idea.
That was pretty much the finale. For the entire college football week. And it's like we got started with Texas and Ohio State. We saw Texas not look all that good out there. People already looking at Arch Man and going, Hey, bruh, what happened?
170 yards, one touchdown, one interception. Let's keep in mind. These are still the defending champs. I know they got a different team. I know they got a different quarterback.
And Julian saying he didn't necessarily have the best showing himself 126 yards in a touchdown. But the the defense For Ohio State was the baseline. And so it was an ugly game. We didn't get much or nothing out of it, 14 to 7. And even listening to Arch Manning after the game.
It's just like oh, this was just a Boring. This is what he had to say about his start, his performance. Ultimately, not good enough. Obviously, you don't want to start off season 0-1. They're a good team, but I thought.
We beat ourselves a lot and it that starts with me, and I gotta play better for us to win. Um Can't wait till the second half to kinda get things going.
Well well then damn, how about this? The next game is against San Jose State. Like, you go from the Ohio State to San Jose State. Yeah, there's a little bit of a difference. Go ahead, everybody.
Ring the alarm bells. If Archmanning sucks in that game. I don't care what he just did against the Ohio State University.
Okay, I don't care what just happened in Columbus, Ohio. Relax on Archmanning. It's not the end of the world, it's not done.
Okay, Tom Brady, I think you would say that he's a reputable voice in the world of football. I think you would say Tom Brady knows a thing, or two, or three, or five, or six, or seven. about football. This is what Tom Brady had to say about Arch's performance. You know, a lot of these guys are so young, and they don't, with social media and Twitter and Instagram.
I mean, you can, you know, make someone look so great and you can tear them down so quick. And before, it used to be, you know, I have to wait till the paper comes out the next day to make a real evaluation. But in the digital era, it happens in five seconds.
So. You know, I think there's a blessing and a curse in some of it. The curse is. A lot of people pile on. The blessing is.
I don't believe a quarterback There needs to be resilience built up in the quarterback as well.
So, even though he didn't have his best game today and they lost, if he uses this to his advantage, Arch. he's going to be tougher for it. And he's going to have a better next game because of it.
Well, he can't well, he can have a worse game versus San Jose State. He can. I don't anticipate it happening though.
So everybody just just relax a little bit. On Archmanning people are ready to bury him. They say he sucks, or he's hyped overhyped. It was a bad game. Tom Brady had plenty of them.
He ain't gonna look great in every single one, and he's learning.
So this probably is. for the betterment of Archmen, that he did not go out there and light them up, not that I thought he would. This is probably good. have something to uh you know kind of battle back to battle back against. Show some resolve, Arch Manning will be here.
On the other hand, Ryan Day talked about Julian Sand, Like what the heck did we get out of him? He's gonna have to grow as well. If Ohio State is gonna Dare I say go back to back? Listen to this. I was impressed with his poise.
He had a good look in his eye. And what he was saying and what he was seeing was exactly what was going on. That's a great sign. I remember CJ's first start. You know, I remember Justin's first start.
Um and what I mean first start, like, you know, in big games. Um Dwayne, um You know, Kyle. You know, Will was different because he'd played a lot of football. But when you have that first start and you're out there, there are so many things to take into consideration. When you're the quarterback at Ohio State, And you're playing number one Texas against one of the top defenses in the country, which we have a tremendous amount of respect for.
Like, the one thing we didn't want to do, and I didn't want to do, was put him in a bad spot. It's just not fair to him.
Now, coming out of it, quite honestly, I think he probably could have handled it. Yeah. We weren't going to do that because we know it's a long season, and that was the decision that was made. And so we'll go from here. No, man, you wolf.
We'll see what happens. Things are probably ev I'm I don't want to say easy.
Okay, Texas, their next game? Drawna go one and one. Like I said, they're taking on San Jose State. Texas should beat the brakes off of them. If they don't, Ring the alarm bells.
Meanwhile For Ohio State. Shout outs to all my H B C U s out there Grambling is up next. For Ohio State. And if Ohio State.
Well, let's just be real. Bacha, what's the score of that game going to look like? Uh I'm gonna say they're gonna be a little kind and say Forty eight. Three. Damn.
Damn, damn if well. Yeah. Damn, a field goal. Not even a touchdown, a field goal. I watched my alma mater get killed 55-0 by Florida.
So yeah. L I U, right? Yep, L I U, no sharks, fin out. Fin's up. 55 to nothing?
Yeah, we're not good. Yeah. Well, every now and then you look at some of those scores and you just say, hey, you know, maybe they scored a field goal or something, but uh. Let's see if Grambling, well, yeah, field goal would be an improvement from anything LIU did. against the Gators.
And speaking of blowouts, Man, this game started off looking decent last night in North Carolina. Against TCU Michael Jordan's in the building. Mia Han was in the building, Lawrence Taylor, he's been around. I don't know if he should be on a college campus, but Lawrence Taylor was there. Everybody showed up for Bill Belijack.
Uh the team, they they didn't show up. After the first drive, it was just TCU going down the field and down the field and down the field and pick sixes and people are insulting Bill Belichick and his. fifty years his junior girlfriend. It it was not good. For Bill Belichick last night.
He laid an egg. In front of everybody. And I'm pretty sure he went to sleep fine. Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. I don't know.
Maybe she helped put him to bed. I have no idea. But it was ugly. 48 to 14. On Saturday, we get one ugly game with Texas and Ohio State, and last night we got.
A very ugly game. Every time I looked up, I go again. They scored again and again. They made Bill Belichick do his post-game press conference in front of these balloons, and the people like his girlfriend set up the background for it. It was just beautiful.
Bad. Belichick. They stunk.
Okay, Bill Belichick also said, well, you could tell this. We have a lot of things. that we can improve on. Biggest thing is we have to correct some of the mistakes we made tonight. I mean, we just can't.
We just can't perform well doing some of the things that we did. We got to be better than that. And then obviously, we've got to deal with Charlotte and the problems they present. Um we had too many self-inflicted wounds that that we have to eliminate before we can you're not gonna worry about addressing our opponents.
So um we'll start with that and then and then move to Charlotte. Yeah, they take on the 49ers next. He sounds miserable. And what is he going to sound like? He just lost.
They took his lunch money. And they took his dinner money. And they took his girlfriend's money. And I mean, then you got the players saying that they felt disrespected. Nobody paid attention to them.
And then even their head coach Sonny Dykes is like nobody paid attention to us.
Sonny Dykes said we felt disrespected. coming into this game. Look, I think we all Felt a little disrespected. you know, there was a lot of conversation. about this game and none of it was about us.
And so I you know I don't pay much attention to that stuff and the little amount of attention that I pay You know, I felt that way. you know, personally, and I think our our players certainly felt that way. Did that make any difference? Probably not. You know, our guys started preparing for this game.
you know, in January. Um And so anyway, that was. I think it gave us a little extra motivation and and certainly You know, guys were charged up and excited to play. We don't pay attention. To what people say, but we heard everything that they said, and we heard everything that they didn't say.
But we don't pay attention, but we felt disrespected. Come on now. Look, I get it. From an athlete's perspective, whatever's gonna hype you up. Whatever is going to get you going, whatever is going to get you wound up to go out there and play, whatever you need to use as a motivating factor, you go out there.
And you do it. I get it. But they also understand Bill Belichick was the story, okay? It didn't matter if he was coaching North Carolina. with a boys and girls' club football team from across the street.
Bill Belichick was the draw. People showed up because of Belichick. Michael Jordan was in the building because of Belichick. Nobody cared about TCU last night. It has nothing to do with football.
It has everything to do with the guy. Who's one of the most successful NFL coaches of all time? Who basically got fired, got shown the door, and is now in North Carolina where people are expecting results. But nobody's ever looked at this team, let's be honest. Nobody looked at North Carolina and said, Bill Belichick is going to take them to a national championship.
Damn it, they won't even win the conference.
Okay, people are looking at them and saying, North Carolina, huh? What? Seven-ish wins? It's if they're lucky. And so, yeah, you can feel disrespected and hype yourself up however you need to, People showed up for Belichick.
just so happens to be he's the head coach of North Carolina. And I think things are pretty much going to go to plan. I expected them to lose yesterday. TCU smashed them. Forty eight.
to fourteen. Yeah, we had a a big splash on Saturday to open things up. We had a a big splash and a beatdown last night with North Carolina. We had a bunch of other games in the middle L S U and Clemson L S U knocking off the well, the Tigers knocked off the Tigers. Yeah, th we had a lot of games.
It was a lot of football. All the way from Thursday, all the way to last night. We got the NFL starting up on Thursday. We got a lot to get into. A matter of fact.
We are going to take a break when we come back on the other side to digest. Everything that has occurred over the weekend, the start of the college football season, week number two. Technically, we're going to have a conversation with Dan Walken. He covers all things college football for Yahoo. He'll be here with us in five minutes.
Next hour. We're going to talk tar heels. People are they kind of Overblowing last night with Bill Belichick. We're going to have that chat with Grant Hughes. He's coming through with us next hour.
Later on in the show, we'll talk to Bill Huber about the Packers and this whole Michael Parsons situation. We got the Eagles just trying to completely ignore. What they accomplished a few months ago and winning a championship. We have a lot to get into. We'll have this chat with Dan Wolken on the other side.

You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Reef Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. College football season is underway. We're staring at the beginning of the NFL season. We had so many games over the weekend on the college side.
Things were punctuated last night. Bill Belichick, North Carolina getting smashed. We saw. Arch Manning, not the best-looking performance on Saturday to break down all of the games, the Tigers playing each other, and what we got out of Ohio State to talk about it all. As a senior writer from Yahoo Sports joining us, covers all things college sports, especially football.
Here he is, Dan Walkin. Dan, how are you, man? How are you? Excellent. Appreciate the time.
You know, amongst all the things that I just mentioned from it felt like five days of college football, what really captured your attention? Yeah, I mean, look, you're going to get some interesting matchups in week one among these top teams, but I don't know how much we really learn, obviously. That's uh Arch Manning in Texas did not play well offensively, and that's raised a lot of alarm bells. Um but I do think long term They're probably going to be fine. It's tough to go into a road game at Ohio State week one.
and look good, especially against that defense.
So Uh, LSU certainly showed a lot of improvement defensively compared to where they've been the last couple years. I think you. But we're gonna have to take it as was it real? Clemson offensively was a bit of a disaster, but they've not been very good on offense for the last couple seasons.
So. Those are some of the things that Stood out certainly in week one, but as you go through the year and you get more data, how much is it going to hold up? Uh to reality uh we'll we'll see.
Well, Dan, you talk about Arch Manning and certainly people were going to overreact one way or the other regardless of what he looked like. What positives did you take away from what you saw on Saturday? Not a lot. Really? It was not a very good performance.
When you talk about a player like Arch Manning, who, yeah, he has not started a lot of games. He hasn't played a lot of meaningful snaps against good competition. But at the same time, it's his third year in the program, and so. There are certain throws you would expect him to make that he didn't make, even some of the simple stuff.
Now, Look, I think Steve Sarkeesian didn't do a great job calling plays. Could have helped him out a lot more early in the game, gotten him in a rhythm. But It didn't happen. And I think it is a little bit concerning. Um, but again, you know, he's a young player in terms of experience, he's gonna have to learn a lot, he's gonna have to figure things out on the fly.
It's a different game. when you're playing at full speed. And you have to make adjustments and You're playing against a defense that you don't practice against every day. That's what. Quarterbacks have to do week in and week out.
It's not easy.
So I'm not going to crush him, but I didn't see a lot in that game that was like super positive. Dan Wilkin is here with us from Yahoo Sports. You talk about positives. You mentioned LSU beating Clemson. Is Brian Kelly gonna catch a break, or are people still waiting to hang him the minute that there's a misstep?
down in Baton Rouge.
Well, we'll just have to see how the season goes. Obviously, for them to win in the opener after three straight losses. Week one was a big step forward, but it's a long season and they've got a tough schedule. And if it's another Eight and four type of LSU team, then he's going to continue to get. Criticism, and it's going to be well deserved.
This year, LSU went all in in terms of the roster and how much money they're putting into the roster. Um And I they expect results. They certainly look good in week one, but it's one week. And I think if they're going to have to. Joe, the consistency week in and week out.
to sort of change that narrative, and it's a long road ahead. For now, everybody's happy, but they got a game in a couple of weeks against Florida that's going to be just as big. No, Dan, you talk about uh the continuing on with the season. Alabama is certainly going to hope to try to fix things moving forward, especially after losing to the Seminoles thirty-one. To 17.
What are your thoughts? Is this too big a loss? Of course, it's early in the season. Yeah, I mean, it's really, really concerning. Not just because they lost the game, but the way they played, the way they looked.
didn't show much toughness, didn't look very physical. Missed a lot of tackles, just sort of an undisciplined Performance and a sort of quality and style of play that just did not really look very promising. If you're talking about Alabama as a national championship contender, now, can they save it? Can they turn it around? Um you have to leave open that possibility.
But That was not. A good performance on any level. Uh It's one thing if you go down in week one and you've Just kind of lose on a fluke. You turn the ball over a couple of times. That happens.
But that's not the way that game went. That's not why they lost. They lost because they just straight up got beat. They got beat in a way. That I thought showed some fundamental weakness in the way they're running that program, the way they're preparing in the offseason.
They just weren't ready. And that's on the head coach. And I do think that the questions about Kaitlyn DeBoer are legitimate and are going to persist. Because uh This wasn't a one-off. This was sort of a continuation of the way they looked in some of those losses last season.
Well, Dan, we know that Nick Sabin is is busy on the media side right now. It's certainly still a a resource. To what involvement is is Nick Saban still involved with the program? Or is he kind of leaving Kalin to go ahead and do his thing? I mean, Nick Sabin is not the coach.
I mean, yeah, he's a presence in some ways around Alabama still. But his job is being on television, and it's Kalen DeBoer's team. Kalen DeBoer is responsible for everything, and it's his system, it's his players. He's got to coach him up. This isn't.
Sabin and you can't look to Nick Sabin. to be the savior he's He's retired, you know, and you got a coach you're paying $10 million a year. It's his job to get it right. Dan Wokin here with us from Yahoo Sports. He's talking about a coach who's now running the program.
We saw that disaster last night. in North Carolina. There was no big expectation, you know, throughout the course of the season for UNC to kind of have some, you know, big run.
So w what's the big deal? I get it. Belichick got blown out, North Carolina got blown out. I think we can expect more of this throughout the season now. I mean, I don't know that it's going to be that bad every week.
If it is, that would be a huge problem. But there's no question that that was disappointing. after the first uh offensive drive and they get a defensive stop. You're thinking everything's looking good, but uh after that It was pretty remarkably disappointing. They didn't do very much right.
They looked very untalented. Um 70 new players at North Carolina. A lot of it through the transfer portal.
Okay, you know, you don't expect them to be great right off the bat necessarily. But don't just come in and and Typically In year one, can have the opportunity to show something, especially now. Uh, let's just hope that uh they didn't miss that badly on their roster. Because if they did, it's going to be a very bleak End of Bill Belichick's coaching career. Yeah, well we we certainly hope.
I mean the the jokes were flowing last night. you know, after the blowout and we got the typical Bill Belichick uh A press conference, so we have to see. Are there any teams that surprised you, any performances that surprised you over the weekend? I mean, I don't think there was anything incredibly. out of the norm.
I mean, obviously the Florida state Uh performance was interesting just because they were two and ten last year. And you didn't really know i exactly what uh Uh they were going to look like coming out. With a whole bunch of new players and obviously Tommy Castellanos. a guy who um got benched last year at Boston College.
So What was he going to look like? But it just seemed to work with him and the Gus Melz on offense. Certainly just kind of seemed to work.
So that was exciting. We'll see what they do going forward. But The turnaround from what we saw of Florida State last year to the way they came out of the gates this year was interesting, surprising and very encouraging, I think, if you're a Seminoles fan. And Dan, we know the team at the top of the AP poll right now, of course, the defending champions with with Ohio State. What are your thoughts on them continuing to kind of run through things here and maybe go back to back?
Well, there's a long way before we can talk about going back to back, but yeah, their defense looked real again. phenomenal especially In short yardage, goal to go type situations where they were so amazing last year. Obviously, they lose their defensive coordinator, Jim Knowles. They bring in Matt Patricia. A little bit of a question mark there, just because Patricia.
in the NFL as a head coach did not work out. Was he the coordinator for the Patriots? How much of that was him versus Belichick? But I thought he was rock solid and that defense looked outstanding. Ohio State's obviously going to be one of the best teams in the country.
They're incredibly talented. Uh Offensively, I think you know, how they stack up against Penn State. Um At this point, we'll see, but there's a long way to go before they play them, so plenty of opportunity for Ohio State to to get up and running offensively. Nick, plenty of time. I can't believe what are we at?
We're two weeks in. And we already have so many storylines that that have developed. Hey, Dan, I appreciate the time. Please tell everybody where they can follow you and all your work with Yahoo!
Well, Yahoo Sports, we're on the app, yahoo sports.com. I'll be there plenty. with plenty of frequency in the coming days and weeks. Absolutely. Hey, Dan, appreciate it.
We'll cut you down the line, okay?
Okay, thanks. No doubt about it. A big shout out and thank you to Dan Wolken coming through from Yahoo Sports, covers all things college football. Yeah, there's a lot of, well, You can draw a lot of conclusions straight out the box. You know, North Carolina, next time they probably will get stomped, maybe not to the same degree, maybe possibly, as against Clemson.
Depending on what Clemson's offense decides to go out there and look like. And then from Ohio State's perspective, it's really a matter of how they continue to develop. Throughout the course of the year, especially now the fact that Julian Sand is the one who's going to be out there operating. And throw him with that football.
So we'll see what happens with the Ohio State University. Already looking at Kalen DeBoer. You know what is Yeah, th he's probably going to get the boot. if they have another poor season this year. And even though Nick Saban is no longer the the head coach, He certainly has some voice and some influence, I would think.
And of course, he wouldn't want to be the one to do it. He would never say it, he'd never admit it. He's probably gonna have a say.
some type of influence if and when they need to pull the plug. on Kaylin DeBoer. He might be grand opening and a grand closing out in Tuscaloosa. That very well might be the case if Alabama's not continuing on. And it's just tough to follow up from a legendary coach.
Ask the New England Patriots.
Okay, sure, things didn't end the greatest with Bill Belichick, especially after the departure of Tom Brady. And when you move on from a great, A Belichick, a Sabin, things aren't necessarily going to be good. It's not easy to have continuity in football when the best player and/or the best coaches are. Are gone. There's going to be some growing pains in between finding that next guy.
Let's be real, nobody goes on and just has a dynasty. forever. I mean, even in the case of the Patriots, it felt like a a two decade Dynasty. And so Calem DeBoer is certainly going to be on a hot seat along with Brian Kelly. I think these are two dudes, if they don't have great seasons, they could be shown the door.
888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. We're going to take a break. And we come back on the other side. We're going to talk some NFL.
That's right. We are two days away from the start of the NFL regular season. We got Cowboys. And we got eagles. Yeah, no Michael Parsons chasing anybody around.
We'll get into that. We also have some other stories about who may or may not play this weekend in the NFL. There's a lot going on in the world of sports. If you want to give me a call, you can. 888-710-4ISN is the number.
That's 888-710-4ISN. I'm going to take your calls. I'm going to take a look at some of these NFL stories that are going to get us started over the weekend. But right now, we're going to go right to a news flash. Here he is, Rich Ackerman.

Got some more games under Afghan. And I know week zero, week one. But this was the first real week. Of college football. Grand opening, grand closing.
We had a big start.
Well, not a good one. Uh not for Texas. It's Texas and Ohio State. And we saw things finish up last night. With North Carolina going out there and getting drug beat up bad by TCU.
So, thank you so much to Dan for joining us in the last break. If you missed that conversation, go ahead and hit rewind on the free Odyssey app, A-U-D-A-C-Y. The phone line's open if you want to give a holler. 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN.
College football season in full swing. The Anna Fowl starts in two days. I'm like, dang, already? The NFL, it's September 2nd. The NFL gets started on Thursday.
The NFL doesn't care about Sundays and Mondays anymore, Thursdays. They're taking over every day. We got football on Thursday. We got football on Friday. On Thursday.
the season gets started with the cowboys and the eagles And it will be no Michael Parsons, as we know. He's now a member. Of the Green Bay Packers. We'll hear what Micah had to say during his introductory press conference a little later in the show. A matter of fact, we're going to get into that.
In a few minutes at the top of the hour I want to talk about this whole Michael Parsons situation. As his agent David Mullagetta spoke to the media earlier today, he was actually on television. Rare that you hear from an agent about a situation, but. He's kinda telling you what took place and what did not take place.
Now with those negotiations between MICA and the Dallas Cowboys. Certainly two different versions of what took place And I don't even think Micah's agent, David Mulligetta, even knows how they got there.
So we'll talk about the Cowboys and hear from. Micah, his agent, will do that at the top of the hour.
So we got the Cowboys and Eagles on Thursday. By the way, the Eagles are just completely ignoring. The fact that they won a championship. They don't even want to think about repeating, doing anything over. They want to wash their hands of last season because that championship.
was over. We'll hear from from Nick Siriani about that.
So we have that game on Thursday. On Friday we got the Chiefs and Chargers. taking place in Brazil. I want. Bacho, are we going to see Taylor Swift in Brazil?
Is she going to follow this man around? Uh Brazil's a hard ask, to be f to be fair. I don't know I don't know if Taylor Swift's into the Brazil trip. I mean, this is a. Isn't she like the most globally recognized person on earth?
I know, but But if she's not playing Brazil Is she going to go back? That's low. I think when you're wealthy, when you're a billionaire, I think you just wake up and do what you want. This is a true test. If she goes to Brazil Yeah.
She really loves Kelsey. Oh damn, wow. Yeah, she doesn't. She doesn't love his passion for football.
Well, I'm like, maybe she just I think and I think a little different. This might be indicative, not of her love. She's gonna marry the guy. She gotta love him, right? Not really.
Plenty of people out here not getting married because they love somebody. Uh but You would think if this is going to be his last year. If she knows that, if he knows that, if they know that, and she says, you know what, I'm gonna pop up. a little bit more frequently to support my man in his final season. If she's in Brazil, I think this is going to be an indicator that this guy is going to be winding things down.
As he prepares for his uh next step. In life, if you're a Chargers fan outside of Taylor Swift showing up, it appears that Najee Harris is going to go out there and play. for the Chargers. This man obviously had a fireworks incident. And he guessed he didn't learn from Jason Pierre Paul blowing off his damn fingers.
And so he has an eye injury that we are still not all that. Kind of aware of He's wearing a visor when he spoke to the media. He's wearing a visor when he's been caught with a helmet on and And so he'll be in action on Friday. That's Chiefs and Chargers on Friday. Cowboys and Eagles open up the season on Thursday.
And then we even have some other news from some of the games. Over the weekend. Obviously, it's a big deal with Aaron Rodgers. Returning to MetLife with the Steelers to take on the New York Jets, but in odd fashion, Aaron Rodgers, he is the biggest story. But Kim Hayward Who had to apologize to Aaron Rodgers because of the, I'm not courting Aaron Rodgers to come to the Steelers.
You should know what the Steelers are. Kim Hayward made that fuss about his contract. And then he pretty much said, in odd fashion, especially for a guy who's won NFL Man of the Year and Walter Payton Man of the Year, the Good Guy Award for Great Guy of the Year. Cam Hayward actually said. Asked via reporter.
Hey dude, are are you gonna play? If you don't get a new contract, he's like, well, I consider all options. He kind of said a month ago that he may not play. We found that to be a load of crap. Because it's like, man, why you going to miss out on a game check?
And he was asked again on the Not Just Football show if he will play on Sunday against the Jets. This is what Cam Hayward said. All right, anything else we need to know before this game, Sunday? What we will well, I guess the main question, too, will Cam Hayward be out there? Four three.
Come on, bro. That man is gonna play. He's not going to leave his teammates high and dry. That's number one. Maybe that's number two.
Number one is he ain't missing no damn game check. because he's unhappy with his contract. That means it's going to show up, work, and try to get paid for next year if they don't come to an agreement.
So. Cam Hayward, not exactly, uh, you know, Mr. Pain in the ass. Not Tyree Kill, let's put it that way, who, by the way. was not voted as a captain this year, For the Miami Dolphins, And how could you be a captain?
when you basically uh complained at the end of last season, took yourself out of a game, complained about not wanting to be there, basically said and insinuated that you should be traded because the team isn't good enough. You had to apologize to the team. Doesn't necessarily sound like a dude. Who's a captain? And apparently, Mike McDaniel, in order to make sure that he was not named the captain this year.
Mike McDaniel apparently took the unusual step. of limiting the spots for captains this year.
So instead of running around with eight or nine captains, he went He chopped the number down to six to make sure that Tyreek wouldn't be, I don't know, captain number seven. I know the the the intricacies of a football team, huh? Mike McDaniel. This is what he said in response to Tyreek Hill not being voted as a captain. Prepare to hear a lot of um s, ah, um and odd pauses.
Listen. Yeah, I I I would say my thought would be that Uh he was Um an active participator in and voting for probably multiple Captains that we do have, I think it's more about the guys that we picked and less about the guys we didn't. because there are a lot of guys exemplifying tremendous leadership qualities that aren't a captain of this football team. I think it's more of a focus on who is and not who isn't. Man.
This is one of those deflection, deflection, deflection. And this is what NFL cultures get paid to do. Deflect. It's not about who didn't get voted in as a captain. It's about the guys who were voted in as captains.
And then we have guys who are not captains who are leaders on its broad. We didn't ask you about all that. You asked about Tyreek Hill. and sure he can't go up there and give a straightway answer. You can't.
He can't say, hey, the guy quit on us last year. And so no, he's not a captain this year.
Well, he could have said that. But he's he's got to play it smooth. He has to keep Tyree killin' and check he has to make sure that the guy shows up to work. Damn it. That whole team is going down the toilet.
The Miami Dolphins stink. You hear you hear this guy. You hear the head coach Mike McDaniel? Does he sound like the coach of a football team or of a high school team? He sounds like a a high school professor to me, teaching math.
I don't think he has control over the locker room. And I think that's indicative of what we heard from Tyree Kill at the end of last season. Granted, the Kansas City Chiefs are were championship contenders, but I don't think he would say such a thing. Under Andy Reed. Think the players are just doing what the hell they want down in Miami.
Case in point, Jalen Ramsey is like, What the hell am I doing here? It's time to go. Anyway, we can expect to see Tyree kill. Playing against the Colts, even though he's not a captain. Speaking of not playing, it appears that an old NFL quarterback, 37 years old, And just got an 84 million dollar contract extension for the next two years, and he got a bad back.
Looks like Matthew Stafford is going to be a full go. for the Los Angeles Rams as they get ready to take on. the Texans. Matter of fact, Matthew Stafford spoke today about his back on the Let's Go podcast, and this is what he had to say. Yeah, just been something that, you know, I was training for training camp, getting ready for it.
You know, something kind of crept up on me, started feeling some issues, and I got it checked out. Our guys here did a great job of taking care of me. And, you know, luckily I'm feeling a little bit better. I was able to practice the last couple of weeks, which was great. I love getting out there and being able to practice with the guys.
But I'm feeling good going into week one, so excited about it. People hear back issues and they get concerned. What's your level of concern? Um, I don't know. Uh, you know, I think uh it's obviously not fun.
Um, you know, I I've had them before in the past and uh you know you'd rather not have the back issue. But you know, I I do feel healthy going into week one. I feel really solid um and feel good about uh you know going out there performing at a high level. Damn, you heard Jim Gray asking the questions. He he must know a t a thing or two about bad backs.
And Jim Gray's been around for a very, very long time. And let's be honest, he didn't just have a back issue. A couple of seasons ago, he got rocked and he missed a good portion of the season. Because of a back issue. For a Los Angeles Rams team that's trying to go to a Super Bowl this year.
And I'd say weakened NFC West. I think it seems a little bit more even. If he goes down and cooked, Like Sean McVay's gonna have to go out there and play quarterback himself. This is what Sean McVeigh had to say about Matthew Stafford's health, and he was pretty short when he got this question in. Do you expect Matthew to start against Duxtons?
I do. Yeah, he'll be good. Will he participate in the full week of practice? Yep. Nope, all is good in the world.
Botches is that simple, right, old man, bad back, you'll be okay. Yeah, he's got the shot. He's all good. He'll be fine. If e if anything, he'll give the guy another shot.
And welcome to the NFL with the uh The shots are aplenty, okay? But people don't talk about that. And not just epidurals for bad backs like Matthew Stafford, okay? He gets cracked one time. He's going to need some other shots.
They will shoot that man up. $84 million investment. Oh, they got the needles ready for Matthew Stafford, okay? They're going to make sure he out there. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infiniti Sports Network.
