It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia.

Super producer and host Ryan Hickey. He is in New York City and will be hanging out with you for one more hour. We just had an elimination in the NBA playoffs. The Indiana Pacers knock off the Bucks in overtime.

119 to 118. The Milwaukee Bucks season is over. The Pacers win the series four games to one.

Next up for the Indiana Pacers, the Cleveland Cavaliers. We'll talk about that game in a second. It just finished in overtime.

We've had a full show. Thank you to Larry Krueger from KNBR out in the Bay Area. He came through and had a chat with us about the 49ers.

George Kittle has a new contract. What does this mean for Brock Purdy? Hey, speaking of the Cavaliers, thank you so much to Mr. Cavalier Austin Carr for joining us to talk about what the Cavaliers did. Dismantling the Miami Heat, sweeping them last night, sending them on vacation. We have more to get into. More NFL, JJ McCarthy. And at the end of the show, we'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history.

We got a lot more to do before we roll out. And man, how about this? We got three more NBA games tonight of which we got a lot of quarterbacks watching the New York Knicks and Indiana. Well, who the heck are the Knicks playing? The Pistons, right?

The Detroit Pistons. Yeah. Wow.

Wild stuff. I see Russell Wilson is at the game wearing shades. Justin Fields also at the game wearing shades. Abdul Carter, newest, latest New York giant who wanted Lawrence Taylor's number also at the game wearing shades. Is it just a New York football player thing?

You have to wear shades in Madison Square Garden inside? I hope they're not following their quote unquote leader. Who's the leader? Well, it'd be Russ, right?

Just keep you on. Justin Fields? That got nothing to do with them, right? True, but true.

But maybe Justin Fields trying to fit in with, you know, other, what other accomplished quarterbacks are doing. Okay. All right.

We all got to wear our glasses inside, our shades inside at night. Okay. No, no, no taking. Hey, New York Knicks and Detroit, they're playing it close. Knicks lead 50 to 49 just right outside of halftime.

But I told you, we just had a finish in Indiana. It took overtime, but the Pacers have finally shut the door on the Milwaukee Bucks season. The Pacers win 119 to 118. Tyrese Halliburton with a game winning drive past Giannis Atetokounmpo to ultimately take the lead. Tyrese Halliburton also with the slam to send them to overtime. The Milwaukee Bucks turned the basketball over on their last possession. They had one more shot at a heave down court.

That heave ended up nowhere. And then we had a lot of action postgame. It looked like Giannis Atetokounmpo got into it with Tyrese Halliburton's dad. They had to be separated.

There was a scrum. Giannis ultimately got back into the face of Tyrese Halliburton's dad. They were head to head, looked like they were going to get after it. But I guess Giannis was showing his dad love and Giannis walked away and then it looked like Kevin Porter Jr. got into it and there was some pushing and shoving. And it was quite a scene after the game of which felt like two to three minutes. It just was wild. I'm like, hey, why don't they just move the Bucks off of the basketball court? Giannis then went back to dap up some of the opponents on the Pacers.

It was just a real odd scene what took place there. You think about some of the numbers in closing out this series. Tyrese Halliburton, 26 points, 9 assists, 3 steals, 3 blocks. Miles Turner, 21 points, 9 rebounds. Gary Trent Jr. came through and tried to help out Giannis, 33 points.

Giannis, we know what he's capable of doing. 30 points, 20 rebounds, 13 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks and almost got into a fight even though it ended with congratulating Tyrese Halliburton's dad. Hickey, that was an interesting scene at the end of the game.

I've never seen nothing like that. Same and it was like almost at the same time, I guess it would be simultaneously, Giannis was upset and happy showing respect but also ready to fight whoever's in his face. That was bizarre. And then he had a chat with James Johnson, I think it is.

The guy that the MMA fighter that nobody in the league wants to fight. Both he and Giannis were whispering in each other's ears and I don't know if he's sending them a message, go talk to your guy or James is telling him Kevin Porter is a knucklehead, I don't know. Just a wild situation. And so the Milwaukee Bucks eliminated in the first round for the third consecutive season. They've certainly dealt with their share of injuries and even tonight, Gary Trent Jr., I told you about the 30 points, 9th player in NBA history with 8 plus 3 pointers made here in a series and Milwaukee still given the boot here out of the first round. I think we all knew there wasn't much of a chance for them with no Damian Lillard. And now we have to think about whether or not Giannis is ultimately done with the Milwaukee Bucks. You have Bobby Portis Jr. and he missed some time throughout the course of the season with that suspension, that drug suspension.

Apparently he took some wrong medication, that's what he said. He's going to be a free agent. You got Brook Lopez, he ain't getting any younger. Giannis is 30, Damian Lillard coming off of an Achilles. It's time to move on. To have Giannis on the team, I don't think he's going to be open to them stinking to join up for the next several years.

You would think that Damian Lillard, when he's healthy, he's going to one-on-one out. The championship window for the Bucks is closed. Doc Rivers is going to go. They've tried everything. They've tried a new coach. They've tried to bring on players and it's done. They don't have the talent. They're not young enough. They're not athletic enough. They don't have the depth.

The Milwaukee Bucks are cooked. Hickey, we were just talking about New York and the Knicks. And I said the last place I saw a basketball game, I think, in New York City was probably Brooklyn. You know what it was? I was at the Barclays Center watching the Liberty, Hickey.

That's what it was. Okay. They're a good team. Fun team to watch. Yeah. When I went, they lost to the Aces when I went.

I guess I'm the bad luck. But either way, Hickey, send Giannis to Brooklyn. Come on now. Just do it. Send him to Brooklyn.

Why not to New York City? Come on now. What do you mean come on now?

The Knicks are going to flip him for what? Karl-Anthony Towns? Yeah. Absolutely. Yeah. Absolutely. Giannis and Brunson?

Is that possible though? Come on, man. I mean, realistically, probably not since the Knicks gave up five first round picks to get McKell... Well, I mean, they still have a ton of picks though. If you're Milwaukee and you're getting rid of Giannis, you want somebody who can play basketball, reasonably, yes.

And then you want picks. Like, who's that guy from Phoenix that runs up... He just runs back and forth. Nobody sees him because he plays for the Nets now. Well, what's his name? Is it Ben something? Who are you talking about?

He got all that... Cam Johnson. There we go. Sharp shooter. Yeah. You just... If you're Milwaukee, what do you do? You just take back him and picks?

I don't know. A couple of scorers. The Brooklyn Nets got guys that are just young that don't do anything. Cam Thomas... Cat, right? No, I want young guys that I can con another team into taking in a couple of years. Give me Cam Thomas picks, Cam Johnson. Give me some other guy.

Give me Nick Claxton. Send Giannis to Brooklyn and just everybody go home happy. No, you don't like that?

No? You just don't want Giannis playing for the Brooklyn Nets, right? Realistically, like I guess...

So this is what I guess I have in mind if you're Milwaukee. Is kind of like a thunder... Is there an SGA type player that's out there? In the NBA, period. Where he's under the radar, really young, not thought of to be a future MVP that could blossom into that. That's like... If I'm trading Giannis, that's what I would try for. Maybe Cam Thomas is that guy.

He's exploding. You can put the ball in the bucket. I would try to shoot for that first. The Knicks don't do not have that. I think you need obviously picks since you don't have any until 2031, at least ones that you control.

You got to get someone young. At least you can have any sort of hope going forward with. Yeah. Well, that's all a Brooklyn Nets got. Oh my God, there's a bunch of hope. We'll see what happens. It really sucks for the Milwaukee Bucks. They're behind the eight ball, it seems like the entire time that they... From the minute that they brought on Damian Lillard. Hey, look, you can't feel too bad for the Buccaneers. You can't feel too bad for the Milwaukee Bucks. They won a championship a couple of years ago. Okay.

I'm not going to go out here and cry for them. I just want to know what happens next with Giannis Atetokounmpo. Real interesting. And we got our next playoff matchup set. We got the Indiana Pacers and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Pacers are the only team to beat the Cavaliers three plus times this season. The Cavaliers, they won both series versus the Pacers since the year 2000. And the Cavaliers, they're trying to go to the first Eastern Conference Finals since some guy named LeBron James was on the team. This goes back to 2018. A matter of fact, LeBron was already gone by then.

My bad. He's already sitting around being a Los Angeles Laker. Pretty sad. I'm looking forward to this one. Hickey, I got the Cavaliers over the Pacers, man. So do I. Yeah, I'd be shocked if we're sitting here in about two weeks talking about anything other than Celtics Cavs in the Eastern Finals. It's too much, too much size in that regard.

I just think they got too much size in that space. 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. I think we might have seen the last of Giannis Atetokounmpo in a Milwaukee Bucks uniform. He's always said kind of two things. I want to be here in Milwaukee competing for championships.

He says, like, I'm not the type of dude to just ask out. As long as we're competing for titles, I want to be here. Well, it's apparent y'all are not competing for championships due to age, lack of athleticism.

It's not a good spot for Giannis Atetokounmpo in the Milwaukee Bucks. We also shared with you before we went to break about how the NBA, speaking of Giannis, they're trying to implement some type of new format in the upcoming All-Star game that pits players from the United States of America versus international players where you'd have Giannis with Jokic and Doncic and Che Gilgas Alexander. And I think that would actually kind of nudge the Team USA players to not be embarrassed because the international players will look at this like, hey, it's one thing for me to compete with my own country and then kind of have to battle the United States of America.

It's another thing to try to show these guys up where we can kind of team up like Voltron and try to whoop their ass. So I think Team USA, they would be incentive, they would be incentivized to go out there and compete and not be embarrassed. So the NBC, the NBC, NBC will have the All-Star game moving forward. If you didn't remember, yeah, the TNT just yelled and screamed and did a whole show about no longer having the All-Star game. And someone who doesn't think that Team USA versus the world is a good idea, doesn't think it'll change anything, is Brian Wenthorse.

Back in February, he was on the Sports Media Podcast, and he says Team USA basketball versus the world and an All-Star game, it wouldn't make a difference. It's not addressing the real problem. The real problem is that the players aren't invested in the game.

And so what they're doing is they're trying everything they possibly can to get the players invested in the game. And Adam Silver has, it's not for lack of trying. It's not that Adam's just throwing his hands up. He's really, really tried.

He's tried different formats. He tried the Elam ending, which the first year of the Elam ending, which was in 2020 in Chicago, I was totally engaged by the fourth quarter of that game. I thought it was great basketball.

I really loved it. But unfortunately, he just wouldn't last. And last year, he tried this whole thing appealing to the history of basketball in Indiana. And he brought back veterans who command the respect of the young players, and they spoke to them and did media tours to apply pressure, and then they still didn't care. Really, the format doesn't matter if the players aren't invested in the outcome. Yeah, I think the players would be invested because they don't want to be embarrassed. I think that's the last thing. And if you're the NBA and you're Adam Silver, man, you just want to try as much as you can.

Throw everything up against the wall and see what sticks. And at least we know that they, I think they'd be competitive. There's your incentive not to be embarrassed because these dudes hate to go online and have crap talk about them, talked about them. And they read everything. It's no different than when they go to Paris or they're going to Sydney or wherever the hell they go in Greece.

They know if they lose, they will never hear the end of it. I'd be here for that. And I think they'd be big interested.

Work for hockey? Come on now. 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. Johnny is calling from Atlanta. You're on the JR Sport Reef show. What's up, Johnny?

What's going on, JR? Hey, to me, it might be a good thing to do a drop to the fifth round because this kid grew up all his whole life, never had to compete for a starting spot. His dad coached him every year.

All the way up to college saying, hey, I got Louis back. He didn't compete for that starting spot. Now it's giving him competition like, hey, I got to compete for my role.

He don't need the money, but it shows the competitive, but is he going to compete or he's going to fold? That's how I'm looking at it. Okay.

He dropped to the fifth round pick. Yeah, no, I'm sorry. No, I agree with you.

There's nothing wrong with that. I mean, the Cleveland Browns basically, Andrew Berry, the general manager said, hey, you have to come in and you got to earn your keep. And that's what happens when you happen to be a fifth round pick and they can give him the boot at any minute. There's no huge financial ties to him at all.

None. Yeah, exactly. And it's going to be a good thing for him because it's going to make him grow up. They're going to make him grow up big time because he, he had like a, he had arrogant, he sang like, hey, everything's awesome because my dad's Dea. Now it humbled him. Hey, if I want to succeed in this world, put my own legacy, I'm out to show up. So that's a good thing.

So I'm looking at it like that. Okay. Well, thank you, Johnny, for calling from Atlanta.

Appreciate you. You know, someone who agrees with you and I agree with you and is someone who played in the NFL, his name is Chris Carter. We actually shared with you a clip that Chris just actually posted as he was a part of a podcast. I'm talking about hall of fame wide receiver, Chris Carter. He was on the fully loaded podcast and he pretty much said that Chidor Sanders and Dionne, they overplayed their hand. There was no collusion from the owners in the NFL and that hell hell yeah.

Like, like a Chidor is going to have to earn it at this point in time. Listen to what Chris Carter had to say about this situation. Every owner is very, very selfish.

Now, why would I do something to my detriment? Like if I need a quarterback and I think this kid is it, what he didn't realize is the guys that have fallen in the draft before they all had unusual traits. Like they had some superstar qualities to them. Now, some other things happen that made them fall, but Chidor and his family, they overplayed their hand them thinking that he was in the same evaluation mode as Eli Manning. They, they didn't play that right. Them trying to narrow the teams that he was going to go to. That didn't do right.

Not working out the combine. That wasn't the right thing. His interview process, obviously he could have done a lot better in that. A lot of people left that meeting and felt he was very, very entitled. Yeah. You want to talk about being humbled.

Well, there you have it. That, that again, Chris Carter, hall of fame, wide receiver, Michael Irvin said something completely different. Michael Irvin is just like, uh, no, he got robbed of $50 million. Now, I don't know if I'm going to lean on the words of Michael Irvin, because obviously he has a championship relationship with his former teammate, uh, Dion Sanders. So I'm not going to lean too much into, uh, Michael Irvin. This is what Michael Irvin had to say about Chidor's fall. The $50 million robbery of Chidor Sanders, because that's what I just witnessed everywhere. We've seen everything we've seen. Everybody that has seen him play said he is the one or two in this drive.

I love Cleveland picking this kid early on, but I can be mad at Cleveland if they played the cards and picked them up in the fifth round, but I surely would like to know how they knew he would still be there in the fifth round. All right. Well, one thing he did do today, he being Chidor Sanders, Chidor Sanders, he showed up to work.

Yeah. He's in Cleveland. Let's see how he works things out. I said this last night.

I'll say it again. He will get a shot at some point throughout the regular season to start for the Cleveland Browns and the Browns. I think they're just going to throw him out there to the wolves. I don't know if Dylan Gabriel is going to have to suck. And then Joe Flacco is going to have to suck.

Kenny Pickett is trash. We may have to go down a long line of unfortunate events before Chidor Sanders gets his chance and his opportunity. But I believe we will see him out on the football field. I don't know if he'll get one starter, two or three, and he's playing with bums out there. I don't know if Jerry Judy is going to be hurt.

We don't know. I do believe he's going to get a chance and an opportunity to start. Will it be an ideal situation?

It's hard to say, especially if you are a fifth round draft pick just out here now trying to earn your keep. It's the J.R. Sportbreeze Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. We're going to take a break. We're going to talk about someone in Minnesota. He said that he is ready to start today. We're going to hear from J.J. McCarthy. Yeah, he was no fifth round draft pick. This champion out of Michigan.

Oh, he was taken tenth overall. OK, we'll talk about it and hear from J.J. McCarthy on the other side. It's the J.R. Sportbreeze Show, the Infinity Sports Network. You're listening to the J.R. Sportbreeze.

It is the J.R. Sportbreeze Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. Yeah, there's been a lot of talk about Chidor Sanders and where he's going and what he's doing, how hard he needs to work. And yeah, we know that. Well, how about there was a quarterback who was drafted last year who didn't even step onto the field? That's J.J. McCarthy.

And Sam Donald ended up having a career season for the Minnesota Vikings, ended up moving that into a big contract with the Seattle Seahawks. And so J.J. McCarthy, who tore his meniscus last year, is at the top of the depth chart for the Minnesota Vikings. I mean, outside of J.J. McCarthy, they have Brett Rippon and Sam Howell and Max Brosman, who they just brought in.

Let's be real. This is J.J. McCarthy's job to lose. I think they'd be hard pressed to see Kirk Cousins. I think we'd all be hard pressed to see Kirk Cousins back in Minnesota.

I do not think that unless we're going to get some massive swerve here. That Aaron Rodgers would follow in the footsteps of Brett Farve and go to Minnesota. And even with the relationship, I think Kevin O'Connell is pretty comfortable with who and what he has in J.J. McCarthy. And so we got a lot of NFL teams that are currently in the period of having voluntary workouts.

The Minnesota Vikings are one of those squads. And so J.J. McCarthy spoke to the media. It's like his first press conference really fully since last year. And he didn't play a minute or a second as he tore his knee like right before training camp. And so J.J. McCarthy had a chance to talk to the media today and basically make his case.

He let everybody know, hey, I don't care what the hell else is going on. I am ready to start for the Minnesota Vikings. I know I'm ready to start. I appreciate it. Question, Kevin, because all the work I put in and just the confidence in my skills and abilities and just being able to do my job and simple, simplified things to, you know, the best of my ability every single day. And, you know, just take it one day at a time, one play at a time.

And, you know, I have a tremendous coaching staff, a tremendous group of guys around me that I can lean on and they can lean on me. Yeah. What the heck else is he supposed to say? Oh, I'm not sure.

I'm going to take it one day at a time. He knows what it is. And I just hope for his sake and I don't find it likely the Minnesota Vikings go out there and win, what, 14 games again.

I think that number is going to come down. But when you think about all of the offensive weapons that they already have, Aaron Aaron Jones was one of the best, you know, three down backs in the league. He's great.

He has great hands. You have Justin Jefferson, one of the highest paid wide receivers in the game. Any year it can go back and forth between both he and Jamar Chase, who's going to have the better numbers. You got Jordan Addison. I mean, he's one of the best number twos in the entire league on a lot of teams.

He would be number one. You have one of the best tight ends in T.J. Hockinson. So J.J. McCarthy has the weapons to go to work. I think he's going to go through growing pains just like everybody else.

It's just going to be one massive adjustment for a guy who was used to kind of just handing the ball off and playing it safe at Michigan to now be in the NFL, where he is going to be relied upon to deliver the football down the field. And so the Minnesota Vikings are going to take a step back. I would still expect if their defense can can be worth a damn for this team to to still get to the postseason as a wildcard. The NFC North is tough. Chicago should be better than a five win team.

You got Ben Johnson, the second year of Caleb Williams. Green Bay should absolutely be better. Maybe they'll be better now that they had a number one wide receiver like Golden that they just drafted. Detroit, they may not win 15 games. They're still going to be a consensus in the AFC or excuse me, NFC in whole. It's going to be a tough one. But Minnesota, they're going to drop down from 14 wins.

I still think they'll compete for a wildcard spot. Hickey, what do you think about J.J. McCarthy? He's the real great unknown. He is. And what I'm fascinated by is the the leash that he has, because like you just said, I mean, they played great last year.

They won 14 games. He has all this talent around him. He has one of the best quarterback coaches you can have in Kevin O'Connell. I know he's a rookie for all intents and purposes, but I wonder when you have that much access in your team that's built to win right now, not that he's going to get benched by week seven or eight, but I'm interested to see how long the leash actually is with him, because I'm like, I think other rookie quarterbacks that I know we always talk about rushing and all, they don't get a lot of time. I still think it depends on situations.

You're given every chance to succeed. See Anthony Richardson now going into year three. Still, the Colts begging him to take the job. I think I don't think they'll have that much patience in Minnesota and honestly, nor should they with how good they are right now. Ooh, you saying that ultimately if he doesn't get the job done, they're going to give him the boot? I mean, how long? Like, yeah. Yeah, but I think there's a full expectation he's going to get a, again, I'm not saying 700 games. I would say at least a year, but I just wonder like this time next year, right? How we're talking about it.

If there is some question marks, like you got to get a veteran in there. Like it's crazy to think like their backup is Sam Howell. How safe is that for a team that just won 14 games last year? And it's why I would have tried to do everything I could have to brought Sam Donald, you know, to bring Sam Donald back.

Oh man. Just because at least you have some security to your point. I mean, God forbid if McCarthy gets hurt again, or if he's ineffective, you're, I mean, all your eggs are in the JJ McCarthy basket. The expectation is I would say playoffs. You have a team that's ready to win right now.

That was one half away one game away from having the number one overall seed in the NFC last year. This is not like a normal situation a rookie quarterback goes into. I think you'll take it.

It's the best one you can have, but you know what will happen, Hickey? Somebody, somewhere will go down. Unfortunately, just like JJ McCarthy did last year, basically opening up the door for Sam Donald.

You can throw the competition on out the window. It was Sam Donald's team to run at that point in time. Somebody is going to get cut and boot, booted at some point through training camp on some other squad. And it's going to allow Minnesota to basically pick the bones and go, Hey, here's our backup.

Here's our veteran. There's no way in hell that we get to September. I'd be shocked if it's JJ McCarthy and then Sam how, but they, they're going to have to have somebody else in here. We'd still got time.

It's it's April. I think they'll plug and play somebody sooner than later. Maybe, maybe Phil rivers will, you know, come off the couch again. I don't know, but maybe Joe Blanco.

Oh yeah. Maybe you don't think she thinks that Kenny picket is, you know, QB one right now. One of the two rookies you just drafted.

They're not cutting. No, they're going to keep both of them. It's either going to be Kenny picket or Joe Flacco that gets the boot. But Joe Flacco, I think he's going to be the one to start the season. You think, you think Kenny picket will get the start before Flacco?

I don't. I just, I found it interesting that Mary Kay said that yesterday, but no, I am under the impression it's going to be Joe Flacco week one. And I would say Joe Flacco right now, I'd say for a majority of the season. Yeah, I think they go Joe Flacco. I think they go Kenny picket. I think they go Chidor.

And then I think they go Dylan Gabriel in that order. Oh wow. You think we can see four quarterback star games for Cleveland? Yes. Yes, absolutely.

Unless they boot Kenny picket. Yeah. What was it two years ago when Flacco came in, led them to the class?

That was five quarterbacks, right? Oh my God. Oh my God. Yeah.

Well, he came off the couch at the end. Yeah. That's almost reminiscent of that, except instead of injuries, most likely it's right. It's players. Wow.

Yeah. No, no. Each guy sucks. Team sucks. Can't move the ball.

And this time, yeah, you're right. No, no playoffs. Just a crap show. The Cleveland Browns. And yeah, she, she highlighted all of their talented players and then it's just like, yeah, but they ain't got no quarterback. So you ain't got no quarterback. You ain't got nothing. You got two quarterbacks.

You got nothing. So I guess in the case of the Minnesota Vikings, they better pray to God that JJ McCarthy can be decent. And who knows, maybe a year sitting down rehab and watching and learning is worth a damn, not necessarily watching Sam Donald. Hopefully he didn't learn anything from Sam Donald in those last two games, but there's a lot riding on JJ McCarthy. They're going to have to pick up some type of, you know, just break glass in case of emergency QB.

We'll see. It's the JR Sport Brief show on the Infinity Sports Network. Right now, Doc Rivers is, I can't even imagine what he's saying, explaining away a miserable injury riddled, no hope season that the Milwaukee Bucks just finished up. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. Hey, thanks. I appreciate that. That's all I'm just trying to do. Just trying to talk. Hey, it's one of my favorite songs too.

I want to get to know you by a G unit. Pretty good. Anyway, it is the JR Sport Brief show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. There's so much damn basketball going on tonight. Pistons and Knicks are slugging it out. Detroit leads the Knicks 79-74, 10 minutes to go left in a game.

Knicks win, they advance on to the next round, likely to take on the Celtics. It's not good for them. In Detroit, they're just trying to stay alive.

Okay. Meanwhile, the Magic, they're trying to do the same thing. It's about three minutes to go in the second half, or excuse me, in the first half, the Magic lead the Celtics 41-39. And then this should absolutely be a great game because the series is tied at two games all. The Clippers and the Nuggets, they get started in about 15 minutes. You just heard from Marco Belletti.

We discussed it earlier in the show as well. The Indiana Pacers, they eliminate the Bucks from the postseason 119 to 118 in overtime. You got Tyrese Halliburton, who's able to score the basket to force overtime. And then he drives past Giannis, an acrobatic layup to basically ultimately win the game. The Bucks turn the ball over on their next possession. So Giannis is at the Kumpo.

It may have been the last time that we see him in a Milwaukee Bucks uniform, but we will just have to wait and see. It is the end of the show. At the end of every show, we talk about a few things that happened this day in sports history, and today is no different. It's time for this day in sports history. See, back in those days, we had radio and you couldn't see anything.

And it was primitive and lousy and we liked it. On the JR Sport Brief Show. I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass. Today is April 29th. The year is 2025. It's time to take a look at a few things that took place this day in sports history.

Let's go back to April 29th, the year 1986. You want to talk about controversies involving the NFL draft? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers decided to draft Bo Jackson on April 29th, 1986.

Here's the problem. Bo Jackson told this Buccaneers team, I don't want to play for y'all. Bottom line is before the draft, Bo Jackson took an interview.

He took a meeting with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and he lost his eligibility to play baseball at Auburn. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers reportedly told him that you wouldn't lose your eligibility, and Bo Jackson felt that they lied to him to try to force him into solely playing football. Bo Jackson said, Don't draft me.

I ain't coming. And the Buccaneers, they basically said, We don't care. We are going to draft you anyway, which is what they did. Ultimately, Bo Jackson, he didn't play, didn't show at all for the Buccaneers.

He went back into the draft and was drafted the following year by the Raiders in 1987. Why did the Buccaneers do this? Why did they draft a guy who said, I ain't coming?

Well, let's take a listen to their former owner, Hugh Culverhouse. He explained why he decided to take Bo number one overall. We're very pleased with the draft of Bo. One thing, it's not a gamble as to his talent. And I'll take the gamble on whether he plays football or baseball. He has to make a decision. And when he decides, then we'll say, God bless. We're hoping that it'll be football.

I think it will be. Uh, no, your gamble didn't pay off. The man played for the Kansas City Royals, and then he suited up for the Raiders. Unfortunately, he ripped that thigh up.

And that was all that she wrote for one of the most electric athletes of all time. But you want to talk about a gamble? Yeah, that gamble didn't play off for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. How about this day in sports history?

April 29th, 2014. I'm glad he got the boot. Donald Sterling was banned for life from the NBA. Yeah.

You want to talk about hanging out with a younger woman? Go ask Donald Sterling what happened. Yeah, he had to come up. He was able to sell the team to Steve Ballmer, so he was able to make away like a bandit. But, uh, all his racist comments about the players, it's just just real nasty.

I don't know. Maybe this is a lesson for Bill Belichick. Anyway, Adam Silver explained back in 2023. This is one of the first things Adam Silver had to do as commissioner, by the way, is ban this piece of trash. Listen to Adam Silver from a couple of years ago.

Explain why he had to get rid of him for life. This is what he told the young man in the three. As I asked others for advice, nobody said to me, this is what you should do. People said, this is the process I would follow.

No. And, and in part, I think nobody told me what to do, because where I ultimately ended up with the ban for life, those are, that's not, um, a term of art in our NBA constitution. It seemed it came, ultimately I decided that's what was appropriate.

But most people who I was asking for advice from didn't know what my range of options were. And in fact, you know, it got very complicated, but I had the power as the commissioner to ban him for life, but I didn't have the power, um, unilaterally to take away his franchise. Um, that can only be done. It's almost the equivalent of an impeachment process where there's a hearing in front of his fellow owners. They ultimately, it's almost the equivalent of a trial, which would have happened to happen. And of course, what ultimately happened is his wife, Shelly sold the team. Well, thank God he's gone.

No, thank you, Adam. So he had the lawyer his way into it. Why he had the, you know, I give him credit. He doesn't come across as much of a lawyer. Well, that's not true. He, I got no problem with him as commissioner. Let me just put it that way. He's not so much of a jerk.

I got no problem with Adam. So I agree. I mean, you're talking about the lawyer. Look at Rob Manfred with MLB. I mean, yeah, he's a jackass. Well, he, you know, it's crazy. He was a lawyer. He used to work for the NBA.

What, what world is this? Did he, Oh, I did not know that. Really? He did. He did. Rob Manfred.

I'm almost a hundred percent certain he worked for the NBA as one of their lawyers. Wow. Yeah. So maybe he was around, uh, what's my guy. He's no longer here with us.

Probably stern for too long. I don't know. Yeah. Rob, man. What did he do?

Yeah, we'll confirm it. Hey, Hickey, let's put it this way. It's tough. Donald Sterling learned.

You gotta be careful with the, uh, the younger women. And Sharon Sharpe learned and everybody, everybody got to learn at some point. Everybody got to learn at some point. Yeah. Rob Manfred, you know, he's a, he's a, he's a, learned at some point. Yeah. Rob Manfred. I thought he worked for the NBA.

Maybe I was wrong. One of these guys, I'll pull it up. Anyway, we also heard earlier today, Netflix has a whole documentary speaking to someone who needed to learn. Netflix has a documentary coming out about Brett Favre and it dropped today. I'm sure Brett Favre is either getting ready to sue or he's going into hiding. Uh, take a listen to this. It starts with Michael Vick talking. And then you hear from a, a victim of Brett Favre.

Listen to this. Everybody wished they could be NFL quarterback. You get all the notoriety, you know, you get paid all the money. Brett Favre was a cult-like, iconic figure. People saying he was a football god. There are a lot of reasons why you might question Brett Favre's inner goodness.

Allegations that he sent lewd texts and photos to a New York jet employee. Brett Favre ultimately destroyed my life. In the life of Brett Favre, not everything is what it seems. He starts to go through life thinking I can do whatever I want. At what level does that stop? I was at a game and someone said Brett Favre wanted my phone number and I just kept saying no.

I started getting text messages and then I started getting voicemails when I was like, oh, I'm in serious trouble here. Maybe we shouldn't be surprised that he got caught up in a federal welfare, this appropriation scandal. You take money intended for the poorest.

I don't know how he sleeps at night. People don't want most of that stuff to come out. People want their heroes. When someone shows you who they are, believe them. Yeah, folks, be careful on the internet. Be careful what you type, be careful what you send, be careful what you say. It's a wild world out here.

The lawyers will get you. And yeah, I was wrong. It wasn't Rob Manfred who worked for the NBA. Gary Bettman, the commissioner of the NHL, worked for the NBA.

He was their lead lawyer hickey for 12 years. No surprise there. Not a shot. You're right. I did not know that other.

Interesting. Not a shot. Hey, thank you so much to Larry Krueger for joining us from KNBR, covers all things 49ers. Thank you to Cleveland Cavaliers legend Austin Carr for joining us as well.
