Yeah! Mountain, everybody, welcome into the Winkler verse. I am Bart Winkler. It's great to be with you here on Tuesday, October twentieth. We're getting ready for the World Series.
It will be the Milwaukee Brewers against the Tampa Bay Rays. In this episode, we'll talk about some of the peripheral thoughts to this World Series. I have made my travel plans to Tampa Bay. And not to Milwaukee, and it is cheaper. I hope not to go, because I hope the Brewers sweep.
I got tickets for Game Five. I don't have tickets. I have ticket. I'm going. I'm flying solo.
Solo daulo. Is solo back with the bloodline now? I don't mind if he messes with him to go at nine four six, but I don't want him in. The bloodline, little WWE chatter there again. I'm Bart Winkler.
Welcome into the Winkler verse. This is episode seven seventy six. This is episode seven hundred and seventy six of the Winkler verse. This has been four years of coming to you, um, mostly four to five times a week, two to three during the the national. Show run, but still consistently did put out podcasts, and glad I did that to to to have this and to to keep whatever this is going.
And I do appreciate it because if there's nobody listening, I'm not doing 776 of these. All right, so this is this. I really do appreciate it. I've talked about this. Everybody that has.
Been a part of it from you guys to casual people, to people that watch and listen that I don't even that have never interacted in any way to the people that say hi to friends that listen to sponsors, to people that come on board, to people that chip in. You guys are the best.
So seven seven seven. Is the episode we're counting up towards, and that is going to be on Wednesday night, the 21st. Bucks play the Wizards at six o'clock our time.
Now on my 24 and select stations throughout the state and Bucks TV, but we are going to be live after the Bucks Wizards. I'm just going to straight up broadcast from a table at Pato at the Sport Book. That's what's happening. I'll get there around halftime.
So if anyone wants to like hang, I'll just be sitting there in the second half watching, waiting to go on live. Um, I'll bring some koozies I still have. I don't know. Um, so come and come and join me if if you'd like, or just watch on your computer, or come on down and what I plan to do is whatever the Bucks are doing, I plan to put money on them.
So if they're losing. Which they probably will be. I'll put money on them. Maybe get a win. Maybe get a comeback.
If they're winning, lock it in. I need thirty wins this year. Put a five hundred dollar bet on thirty wins. I need I need thirty wins to get my five hundred back and then an extra five hundred. No, I get an extra thousand.
It's a five. It's five hundred dollar bet for fifteen hundred plus two hundred.
So that's what I'm doing. I need 30 wins though, and hopefully that can start on Wednesday night. A lot of Bucks action over the next couple of weeks. I haven't really dug into the schedule, but a lot of it is also during the Brewers. We have actually next.
Well, this is like the most insane sports run we've ever been on. And I was looking at this, and I'm glad. I mean, they're going to promote it. They have to. But if you're Fox Six in Milwaukee.
You have every Brewer game because it's on Fox. You have the Milwaukee Brewers on Fox. That's cool if you're a Milwaukee affiliate. But then the days they don't play Sunday, Fox also has Packers Lions at 3:25, and then on Thursday night there's no game, and the Packers play on Prime next week. But Fox Six is the local affiliate that carries the Packer games when they're on a streamer.
So every night on Fox Six next week, as long as the World Series continues, Fox Fox Six is your home for all things Packers and Brewers. And this is this is going to bank sweeps month is in November when they try to do some stunts sweeps month and. February, May, November, and there's one in the summer that no one cares about, but it's coming a little early for Fox Six. Sweep's month is just when that's when you set the ratings that gets set by the advertisers.
So they look at those months to figure out how much they're going to pay you and how much you can charge. Ratings. Since we're on ratings, let's just start on ratings. We already live in a society, folks. Where we side with the rich, and I still don't know why.
We side with the rich. I think because we all think. I I truly think that we think we're closer to being a millionaire than to being like poor or homeless. I truly think that, and I I've always said like everybody is just one or two bad decisions away. From from being homeless or from being out on the street, I'm sorry, unhoused.
It like it's it's a lot. It's just it's very. If I wanted to be homeless, I could figure out a way to do that quicker than I could to be a millionaire. Yet, when it's millionaires versus the unhoused, or when it's When it's the poor versus the rich, we, the lower middle class, always side with the rich.
So we are gonna bootlick for ratings. We being the general populace, obviously in Milwaukee, we're all watching these games and we don't care. But it will be annoying, and it'd be annoying for Rays fans too. We're in the World Series. We're both trying to win our first World Series ever.
This World Series is fresh; it's new. The Rays have been there twice, have not won. The Brewers have not been since '82, as we're all painfully aware.
So we should be celebrating other people getting a chance. Baseball-starved communities. Getting a chance, especially ours, especially ours. We really—I don't know that we need to do anything. Let's just be ourselves during this series.
And it is my hope that people see Milwaukee in a different way after this. I think Milwaukee is a place that people really like once they accidentally come here. For whatever reason that they might accidentally come here, whether it's a conference or they got a week in Chicago, but they want to do something different on Milwaukee's and a half hour away, let's check out that. I don't know. We just we are a lot better and a lot.
We have a lot more to offer than I think. Nationally, we're given the respect for it. I'm not talking about sports here. I'm talking about the state of Wisconsin as a whole. I'm talking about Milwaukee.
I really do think having this much attention on our city for a week and a half, and the baseball in our city, and how much we love the baseball, I think it's almost the missing piece to unlock Milwaukee becoming just like a more premier city in the country. Like people are going to see Milwaukee, and they did a little bit with the Bucks and the shots of the Deer District, but I think it's more impactful with with the Brewers. The stadium's bigger; it holds more people. There's, I just, there's going to be more. There's going to be more attention on Milwaukee this time around, and I think we're going to step up to the plate.
So I'm really excited that Milwaukee is in the World Series as much as I am that the team I like, the Brewers, are in the World Series. I'm excited for the run Milwaukee is going to get, and I'm excited for Brewer fans to finally see their team in the World Series. And I'm excited to finally see my team in the World Series, as my team is the Brewers. I will tell you, my second favorite baseball team is the Tampa Bay Rays. Is your home wish list just sitting in your cart?

They are my second favorite baseball team. How did I pick Tampa Bay as my second favorite team?
Well, I don't really like any other team, so I tolerate Tampa because in the '90s we vacationed there like twice. I think we went there in like '96. We drove down, hit up the Olympics. And then went to Tampa, and Disney. We get Disney in that one too.
We had a. We drove down to Florida, but when we were in Tampa, we went to a Rays game. Was that the two thousand one? When did B.J. Upton start?
Because I was at his first game. I keep bragging about that, like anyone cares. But we went to Tampa a couple times, and the Tampa teams became like the the secondary teams for me, except for the Buccaneers. I never really got into that, even though we did go to a training camp at the Wide World of Disney. That was fun.
But the Lightning were my hockey team at the time. I've since bailed on them, and I'm a Sabres guy. The mutiny I like. They were my MLS team. They've since disbanded.
The Buccaneers I never got into, but I always liked the Rays, and I rooted for them when they would go to the World Series. They went the year that this almost happened in 2008.
Well, not really, but the Brewers lost to the Phillies, and it was Phillies Rays in the World Series. Then Phillies won, but the Rays are always kind of been my second team. And there's there's a there's like a Brewer.
Sort of angle with that too is it's kind of like we're looking in the mirror. I saw somebody put it well that we thought we beat the big bad in the Dodgers, but now we actually have to beat the carbon copy team of ourselves.
So to win the World Series, you actually have to beat yourselves, as Tampa and the Brewers have done things similarly, where they try to get guys that are. You know, unheralded, or have flamed out, or taking a chance via a trade on a guy like Freddie Peralta, who is every bit the playoff pitcher he never was here, and is every bit the good pitcher that he wasn't when he went to the Mets. Brewers, he was he was good when he traded him away, and then he went to the Mets and was awful, and now he's the Rays, and was the ALCS MVP. Freddie, Freddie Peralta.
So he'll likely pitch in Milwaukee. You would think with the off days and how it's going to line up, we're going to see Freddie Peralta, and there's going to be a lot of discussion on what to do. And we have to do the Freddie chant. We have to. We have to.
Will we? I don't know, but we have to. Freddie, Freddie, it got to him when he pitched for us in Chicago. Last year, we have to do it. I don't think we're going to do it.
I think some people will do it, but the whole stadium will not do it. I don't think we'll do it.
Now, when Freddie gets announced, standing ovation. We love you. We do. We love Freddie. We love Freddie.
When Freddie comes on the mound for to take the mound for the first time, cheer again. Stand up again. And then, as soon as he throws the first pitch, as soon as the game starts, Freddie, Freddie, I think we have to do it. I don't think he's going to think it's coming because he knows we're not a hostile environment. We showed against the Dodgers that we can be a great crowd.
You guys that went to those games were terrific. You stood at the right times. You cheered at the right times. You were proactive rather than reactionary, so we were good. But we're not.
We're not hostile, and we don't need to be hostile, like throwing batteries at people that are wearing, you know, Wade Boggs Rays jerseys. But we can chant Freddie, and mess him up, because due to or contrary to popular belief. When you're a fan in the stands in mass, you can affect what's going on on the field. No, I can't. I'm just one guy.
Yeah, there's thirty-nine thousand nine hundred ninety-nine other of you. Collectively, we can do something. Those of you that are going to the World Series in Milwaukee, have fun. Be loud. Once in a lifetime opportunity is what we're saying.
It certainly took a long time to get here. We're in the we're in the World Series. This is the absolute best. This really is the absolute best, and we're just still a couple of days away from this thing fired up. I almost don't want it to start.
I almost just want to live in this period where we did it and we have it to look forward to. I'm gonna savor this week, enjoy the ride. I have been, but I'm gonna savor this break, right now. This little purgatory. We are in the World Series, but it hasn't started yet.
So it's all joy. It's all optimism. It's all what's next. There's no disappointment yet. There's no stress yet.
Just enjoy this little pocket that we're in. That's what I'm gonna do for the next couple of days. Friday, Saturday, game one, game two. Tickets are astronomical. We're in the three thousand range.
I see these ticket brokers online. I don't know who they are, but you click on something once, you're gonna see it forever. There's a guy named Keith. There's some other Steve or something. I don't know.
They're like all over this ticket thing. They think tickets are going to go down. They think brewer tickets, brewer tickets are going to go down. They were about fifteen hundred, um, before we won the National League. Then they went up to about three thousand.
I'm looking on SeatGeek now. If I want one ticket. The lowest ticket that I can get to get into Game One of the World Series on SeatGeek is a standing room only ticket for two thousand six hundred and seventy-two dollars. And if I want a seat, I can get Row Seventeen in Section Four O Eight. This would be in right field for three thousand one hundred.
And one dollars, the lowest seat, lower than the four hundreds, right now, section two oh nine. You can get in for three thousand seven hundred eighty nine bucks. It's crazy. I'm looking at some of these seats that I've sat in for fifty dollars. Along the first and third base line, and they're going for five to seven to eleven thousand dollars, and I don't think this price is coming down.
I don't think it's coming down. If anything, it might actually go up. And and everybody is like, I don't want to. I'm not a I'm not American sports fan that celebrates. When ticket prices are high, I don't want ticket prices to be high.
But this is an indication of Brewers fans really needing to be in the building for these games. I think it speaks to us. We're not as big as a lot of these other fan bases, but we are per person. I think as passionate as it gets. Brewers fans are incredible.
We have stuck with this team through thin and thin, and now we have an opportunity to see our team in the World Series. And it's not even like right now. If you would have talked to any Brewer fan over the last 25 years, certainly when they started making the playoffs, we all kind of thought the same thing: that if they ever go to the World Series, I will make it happen. I will make it happen. Every Brewer fan thought that, and they're only selling forty thousand tickets a game, maybe forty five was standing.
So that's ninety thousand people in these first two nights. Many of them will go twice. A lot of them have.
So I think season tickets are not the way to go. But now, if you think your team's going to make the World Series, it's the way to go. You get in a lot cheaper.
Okay, so I see it there, but there's just not going to be a lot of people are not going to get in. A lot of people who said I'm going to do whatever it takes to get to the World Series. There's not enough tickets for everyone, and that price is a lot of money that I just went over.
So I don't. I really don't think. You know how once we get to the big games, it's like corporate. Super Bowl is for corporate people, or like, hey, you're the VP of some. Here's some tickets, you know, because you sponsored us or whatever.
And then these people come and they're not that interested, but they get to go to a World Series, like the VPs and people who spot. I don't know. There's MLB's got their tickets to give. They, they. I still think this is going to be a rowdy crowd.
You're gonna have even the corporate people will say. There's gonna be some big time brewer fans in that bunch, and they're gonna cheer loudly. People aren't spending three grand, you know, a mortgage, two mortgages, three mortgages. People aren't spending that to sit on their ass. If if you're taking your kid.
This would be the time to go to the kid zone. It's gonna be wide the fuck open. I mean, you could probably just let the kid play, and then go sit at your seat and trust the twenty year old workers there to to babysit, because nobody's gonna be locked in to that at all. But they're gonna. I truly believe no matter how much the tickets get to, it's gonna be.
A very good crowd at Ampham Miller Park the next couple of nights.
So then that leaves people that can't get in, people that they look at that price and think it's a little too rich. I don't want to go for four thousand dollars get a seat and watch my team lose.
So I want to do it for cheaper.
Well, there is a cheaper way. And I am going to do that. Pending. Ooh, I have chocolate in my teeth. Hold on.
Oh, I have chocolate in my teeth. Um.
So I'll tell you that when you get rid of one addiction, it's replaced with another. And I am buying candy at an incredible clip. I ate. What did I eat this morning? You know those Hershey's candies, the little ones, crackle and good bar, and the dark chocolate and the regular.
I'd say I had a half a bag of those, so maybe fifteen to twenty pieces. That was my breakfast, and then I'm gonna be bloated later, and then I'm gonna complain, and then I'm gonna be like, I don't know what it's going on with me. It's the candy. I'm. I'm eating candy feversly throughout the day, and then I had chocolate in my teeth.
Better than the plaque that's been living there for 15 years. Shout out Shorewood Family Dentistry for cleaning that. All right, so I'm going to Game Five. I'm going to Tampa for Game Five. I'm going to.
I didn't think when I booked the trip. I didn't think about what I would be doing the night before. It's going to be game four. I'll do a show, and then I need to go right to bed because my flight's at. What time is my flight?
I think my flight's at eight.
So that's not terrible.
So my flight's at eight. I'll get to Tampa around two. And then I don't know what I'm going to do. I do have a room. Use some points to get a room, so keeping it low.
But then I'm flying out the next morning at five.
So my plan is get to Tampa, check in, poop, and then get back down to the stadium and just be around it. Then go to the game. Maybe I see them clinch. Maybe I don't. Maybe the Rays clinch.
Maybe there is no Game Five. That'd be ideal, because then I can use my flight credits to the New Orleans game. I'm going to. I haven't booked yet. And then I'm going to go back to the hotel, do a pod.
The pod's going to be at like one in the morning. And then, and then I'm going to go. To the airport because my flight's at five, and I'll be back in Milwaukee the next day by eleven to do picks with Horvat. I, I don't know when I'm sleeping. I don't probably not sleep, but probably sleep on the plane.
But that's the plan. That's the plan. Should I have stayed longer, enjoyed Tampa more? Maybe, but I do feel like. This is the opportunity to have an adventure, and this is the kind of adventure I would have had when I was younger.
You know, just a whirlwind, twenty four hours, not not not any time to sit down and breathe. Just go go go. Figure out the sleep. Figure out the consequences later. That's what I.
That's what I would. That's what I look forward to.
Now I'm not going to. I'm not going to be able to do it like I did in college. You know, some of these adventures that we took in college—the one-day stay somewhere or whatever—but I'm going to go for it. I'm going to go for it. Should be exciting.
Obviously, I'll overload my social media with content. But I'm going to the World Series, pending that there is a Game Five. Was looking at Game Four. Tickets were cheaper for Five. It worked out better for me Wednesday than Tuesday.
Anyway, so the plan is to go to Game Five. I got my ticket. I got my plane ticket. I'll see you there if you're there. If you're there, seriously, I I don't know who's going to be there.
I, the you know, you ever like, you ever like see somebody. There's so many people right now, and this happens a lot. And I think about this a lot. Like, there's people that I see at pickup every day for my kids' school that I don't like talk to, but I see them every day and I notice them. Hi, hi, hi.
You start to say hi because you notice them, but we've never like introduced, and I don't know even at what grade their kids are in. I would never go up to them at like the Brewer game and say, "Oh, hey!" I would just probably just wave. But if I saw them in Tampa, I would be like, "Hey, what's up? It's great to see you." We might act like we're best friends.
So if there's anybody like that in my life that's going, let's let's let's hang out. Let's talk in Tampa Bay. I'm sitting by myself. I've been to the Trope before. We went again.
BJ Upton's game. I don't. I don't mind it. It's weird though when you walk in and when you're in the concourse. It feels like I need a better.
It kind of feels like the expo center at the state fair. It feels like that's the concourse, and then you walk through a curtain, and there's just a baseball field played in a warehouse. It's very weird. It's very very weird.
Somehow we're the more traditional stadium between the two, and we're a band box. Retractable roof that was built in that wave in the early two thousands. You know, we we don't have like we're not outdoor, so you lose a bit of that rusticness. But we're also not like a we're not just we have personality. There's personality to the stadium, but you know, it's not Fenway or Yankee or Dodger or whatever.
But it's a nice stadium. But the Rays is like a conference center. I'm excited to get back there because they're going to move eventually. I always knew, 30 years ago, I always knew I'd be back. I didn't know how or when, but when I left the trap, I always knew someday I'll be back at the trap.
Someday I'll be back at the trap. Also, this is going to be like my seventh time in Tampa. I don't, Tampa, in Cleveland, I end up there more than the average person. I it's it's more likely that I'm going to end up in Tampa than it is I'm going to end up in Lacrosse. That sucks.
I need to get back to Lacrosse. Oh, that sucks.
So I'm going. A lot of people are going to talk about ratings. Ignore them. It's so stupid. They don't even they don't even know what they're saying.
That's what bothers me. I know TV ratings. I study them my entire life. One of my first interest was. What were the TV ratings on American broadcast primetime television last night?
When I was twelve years old, I would go to different websites, TV.zapit.com, and then there were different websites. I forget them all. TV Line, maybe, but there was always the Futon Critic. There were always these websites where I could go and see the ratings from the night before, and I always did because I I am into that. I'm into ratings.
I'm into broadcast television. I'm into lead-in. I'm into sport. I'm into all this stuff, and none of you guys know anything about it. You just say ratings.
Who cares what the ratings are? Who cares? Why? Why would you care? Why, as a sports fan, do you care?
You have two teams in the World Series for the first time ever. Oh, the ratings are going to be bad. Think about that. Why? This is this is sport at its highest level.
Two teams desperate for this title, and you're not going to watch it because you'd rather watch a name brand. You'd rather watch the Dodgers, who you actually hate, and get no enjoyment out of. You'd rather watch the Yankees. You'd rather watch the Red Sox. Why?
I don't think you actually would. I think the ratings for this series. Are going to be a lot better than people think, because people like baseball, and they're going to turn in, tune into baseball.
So the spotlight's going to be on Milwaukee. We'll get our chance to shine, and I am looking forward to that. We will talk plenty more World Series throughout the week, and then again, excuse me. Wow, it's first time I burped in four years. I can't burp.
I was gonna get a surgery to to help me burp more. I really can't burp. That's why I'm bloated a lot. That must have been the candy. Maybe candy's the ticket.

Probably by the time that you've already pressed play on this, I am excited for the NBA. I'm excited for the Bucks. I like the NBA, so it's fine even if the Bucks are bad. We've got the.
I'm just trying to check the schedule today. It's the Pistons and the Celtics. At two o'clock in the afternoon, and then Sixers, Knicks, Thunder, Spurs—all these games are on NBC tonight.
So I'm I'm curious to see LeBron play, obviously, in the Sixers uniform. A lot of good. I mean, one. I I think we were talking a little bit yesterday with Carlos, who's going to go to the finals. It's got to be one of these six teams, right?
Celtics, Pistons, Sixers, Knicks, Thunder, Spurs. The finals are in today's schedule. Who am I missing? The finals are in the the the finals are in today's schedule. The Raptors, they're the other ones in the odds up there.
The Pacers. I think I think I think the finals will be two teams that are playing today. Bucks play on Wednesday again. Episode seven seven seven at Potawatomi Sportsbook. College football.
I'm very excited to talk about college football with you for a little bit. Um, it's the last weekend was insane. You had a bunch of teams lose. It was actually an historic weekend for teams going down. We haven't seen that many teams go down in a long time.
Five of the top seven teams in the AP poll lost. That's the first time in the AP poll era ever that five of the top seven teams lost.
Now, what's happening is they are expanding the playoffs to twenty-four.
So, as fun as this last weekend was. It wouldn't matter next year because all these teams that lost would still have a chance to be in the playoffs. Conversely, it'll give the Badgers a better shot to be in the playoffs because there's going to be more teams that can be in the playoffs.
So if you're a Badgers fan and want to see them in the postseason, I think that's good. But we're also one of the teams that are going to benefit from something like this. They're not the the only reason. From what I understand, that they are doing this is to give a bigger safety net to the bigger conference schools, specifically the SEC. The SEC and ESPN have ruined college football together.
Fox dared to challenge them, got the Big Ten rights, have gone full bore with them. They're the reason USC and UCLA and Washington and Oregon are in the Big Ten. ESPN's the reason Oklahoma and Texas are in the SEC. They're both the reason why the Pac-12 doesn't exist. And so, what you're going to have this is the same reason I'm against the expansion of the NCAA tournament for basketball, which that's getting bigger too.
You go from sixty-eight to seventy-six. You're not adding eight mid-majors. You're adding eight more Power Four teams that were twelve and ten in conference. That's who you're adding. You're not adding, gosh, you're not adding North Dakota State.
You're not adding Boise State. You're not adding Oregon State. You're not adding James Madison. You're adding five and two LSU. Let's make sure LSU gets in.
Their name brand. They lost a couple. Texas four and two lost a couple. Florida looked good then lost a couple. These teams are five and two.
They're getting in, and the reason that they're going to get in now is because this is what the big programs want. They want to be able. To throw more money at their kids and say you have a chance to make the college football playoffs here, and now more teams are going to have that chance.
So this is actually taking away from the power from the group of six. This is giving this is giving the Power Four teams more of a cushion, more of a safety ramp. It's a it's a it's another chance for them to make the playoff, even if it's a year they're not supposed to make the playoff, and that's what's happening.
So I've been saving some stuff to see if I could be convinced into liking this 2014 playoff. Because really, if you're going to take away the conference championship games, and you're going to take away some bowl games, obviously. Then you're going to add more playoff games, so that's going to kind of be a wash. The TV inventory is still going to be there. You're not really adding that much in terms of dates, but now instead of watching two teams play in a bowl game, where a lot of guys have opted out.
Now these games that would have been bowl games are going to be a first round playoff game. These teams will still probably not go to the final eight or the quarterfinals or the semis, but you're being tricked until you're watching more of a meaningful game when you would have probably watched these two teams in whatever thing anyway.
So. I don't think there is going to be more money for the networks. This isn't about that. This is about giving teams a second chance to make the playoff if they lost a couple of games. The power teams, you are going to get more nine and three and eight and four teams in than you are ten and one group of six teams, and that sucks.
This is just another way for the rich to get richer. These expansions are not good. You're still going to have the one bid leagues in college basketball. You're still going to have like one group of six team, and then they say, "Oh, they're going to have their own playoff," and then they all sit. That is so stupid.
College football, we shouldn't. There shouldn't be. There's already a division one and two and three. There shouldn't be a division one A and one B. I don't like that.
I don't like that. And if you're going to do it this way, let's mix it up. Let's go more regional. If we're having 24 teams make it, give me the Big Ten of Wisconsin and Illinois and Ohio State and Michigan and Michigan State and Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan and Northwestern and Notre Dame and Loyola. They don't have a football team, but let's do that.
Let's make it regional again. Let's figure it out some way. I don't, I don't like it. Is your home wish list just sitting in your cart?

Here's an argument from Dennis Dodd. Dennis Dodd is formerly with CBS Sports, friend of show. 2014 playoff reaction one. It enhances conference races. Sure, a team can clinch in mid-November.
But the days of Michigan, Ohio State being for the Big Ten title were damn exciting. That last happened 20 years ago. Those days will return. I have to see that play out. I don't know that I agree with that.
A 24 team field lessens the influence of the selection committee. Pretty much, if you're ranked, you're in. No, it's the the selection committee. The selection committee's influence is fine. They just got bullied into picking Alabama over Florida State a few years ago, and that's when I started to hate Kirk Herbstreit.
He was crying on the air, and Florida State's quarterback Jordan Travis getting hurt changed college football forever. More on campus playoff games, yes, please, whatever. There will be 50 teams in competition for the college football playoff each November first. That will drive interest and ratings. The regular season won't be impacted negatively.
We're we've been hearing that since the BCS: Texas, Oklahoma, Michigan, Ohio State, Auburn, Alabama. Alabama, Georgia, BYU, Utah, Alabama, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Miami. These games will still matter, but now there'll be more interest in Duke, Arizona, Oklahoma State, Minnesota. The SEC and Big Ten will probably continue to get seventy-five percent of the field in some years.
So, what bowls are going to survive? The Pop-Tarts Bowl, just gimmick bowls. I don't like it. I I don't like it, and this will probably be one of those things that I end up liking. That I don't like now, but I'll end up liking.
I really, really hope not. I'm not a big fan of this guy. In fact, I'm not a fan at all. Any of these guys. This is Josh Pate and the Bussing with the Boys guys.
I don't like him, not a fan. Josh Payte, I don't know where he came from. A little bit jealousy. I want to come out of nowhere and be on ESPN. But they were talking in front of fans on ESPN, arguing against the 2014 playoff.
And an enemy of my enemy is my friend.
So this is going to be very unscientific, but just bear with me for a second. What do you guys think about a twenty fourteen playoff? Here's what's interesting. They don't matter. I don't matter.
Your voices don't matter. The public overwhelmingly hates this. The public supported going from two to four and four to twelve. The public despises this. Every poll, every every unscientific crowd survey that you can do, they hate it, and it doesn't matter because once you finally got it right.
Like I'm not saying twelve's perfect, but once you finally got a format where you had a balance of urgency, but also More access.
Some of the most unsuccessful and untalented people in the room had to walk in and say, "We need to blow that up." Not because anyone actually wants this, not because our consumer base actually wants it, but we've got to build a mechanism to bail out our bad decision making because we've got a failed business model. And so, what you want to do with a failed business model is keep making more bad decisions to prop it up.
So, above and beyond formats, above and beyond what it does the regular season, it's an embarrassment for the sport because it. Continues. This this failed model of not having leadership. If we walked in a room, I don't care if you got commissioners in there. I don't care if you got network executives.
I don't even blame any of them. But when you walk in the room and say, "Raise your hand if your job description is to take care of college football first and foremost," there are no hands in the air, and you don't have that in any other major sport. There's nobody leading. You don't answer to anyone, and that above and beyond anything about formatting is what's disappointing to me because I. Love this sport for the same reasons I loved it for when I was five years old, and that doesn't really exist in that.
All right, I think well said by Josh Paye. Even though when he interviewed the president, he thought he was going to talk college football for ten minutes, and instead just got talking points about failed elections, and then said, "Oh, I didn't know that was going to happen." How the fuck do you not? I digress. Nobody wants this. Nobody wants the expanded playoff, and we're getting it to bail out the SEC teams.
Bottom line, nobody wants it. I love college football. I really do. I love college football. I love that every game has importance.
I love that every game matters. I and we're already getting games that didn't matter in the past that are going to matter more. Like last weekend was a really good weekend of football. This weekend, you know, Indiana loses to Ohio State. I don't love that Indiana's still fine.
Ohio State lost to Texas, and they're still fine. I already don't love that. But like LSU lost twice. Get out of here. And now they're five and two, and they play four and two Auburn, and that.
They probably both are in in the expanded playoff, but the big game this weekend is number fourteen, Houston six and one against number ten, Utah six and zero, and they're both in the Big Twelve. And in the past, like BYU, they probably only get big. BYU would probably have to go undefeated or Utah to maybe get in a fourteen playoff. If you had a fourteen playoff right now. You'd probably be looking at Miami, Notre Dame.
Oh, see, you might be without an SEC team, because you'd have to give it to an undefeated Big Twelve team. What or no, you wouldn't, because you didn't give it to an undefeated Florida State. ACC.
So twelve's fine. Twenty four though.
Now you have like, I mean, Northwestern's having a good year. SMU. I I just I want more. I don't. You can't have twenty four teams and have twenty three be in the power conferences and let one of the little guys get in.
Because James Madison's fighting, North Dakota State's fighting, Boise State's fighting, Oregon State's playing great in the Pac twelve. I I don't know. I don't I don't know that the regular season. Will be. I don't think it's going to be super tainted.
I think it will be worse, but it's not going to be super tainted. The problem will be the first two rounds of the playoffs are just going to be stupid, and we're just bailing out SEC teams.
So I, I don't like it. Nobody asked for it. They're shoving this down our throat. That's the way of the world. This playoff is like the data centers.
We could go to town halls and speak against it. The committee's still going to vote nine to one to have it. These small towns that pack, pack these city centers. We don't want a data center. All right, let's vote.
Ninety-eight percent say no, and then the council actually votes and it wins five to one.
Well, it's in Fred's data center house, and it's in Mary's house, and we're all voting for the data centers. I got a voicemail from David in Buffalo, four zero two nine one five B A R T four zero two nine one five two two seven eight. Um.
I got a couple here. I'll play David. I'll play, I'll play the shorter one if you do not mind. Voicemails brought to you by Carl's Place. More information on how to get a golf simulator in your home, business, or otherwise, in the comments on YouTube.
Here's David. Hey Bart, let me. This is David from Buffalo. Let me finish up with a couple thoughts, man. The other, I guess, the whole point is all these teams are flawed in the NFL.
It doesn't matter who you are; they're all flawed. You know, whether it's coaching, whether it's defense, special teams, offense, everybody's got some sort of flaw. I think that's the beauty right now. I mean, anybody, by the way, who thinks that Mahomes should be an MVP candidate is not really watching the games. I mean.
He's got a great running game. That's a scary thing, though. You know, with that running game, and and I'll tell you one thing: Darnold definitely misses Kenneth Walker now that he's gone to Kansas City. It's gonna be a great game on Sunday night, by the way. I think Seattle needs that game desperately, considering how the Forty Niners have played so well this year.
I mean, boy, boy, I'll tell you one thing: Seattle were to go the three and four. That would put them in a precarious situation, you know, going forward. There, big game for them on on Sunday night. Um, that's it. That's it for me, man.
Looking forward to the World Series, hockey, the NBA. You know, are rolling. And by the way, Connor Hellebuck, man, he would look really, really good in a Buffalo Sabers jersey. That's all I got for you, Bart. I'll talk to you later, man.
I'm out of here. Peace out, David. Thank you for the call. This he talks about the game coming up this weekend. This NFL slate is not great.
You want to talk about regular season being irrelevant? What do we got? All right, so Thursday night Patriots Bears.
Okay, there'll be some interest there. You can watch that game. Sunday morning Steelers and Saints in Paris. Despite all the protesting, that that's why. Here's the thing.
They're protesting in Paris. We just will never protest that way because they've numbed us. Our lives are too comfortable. Why would we protest? I can watch Netflix all day long and eat Hershey's candy.
Bengals, Ravens, Browns, Titans, Colts, Vikings, Dolphins, Jets, Giants, Texans. Stop me when there's a game you want to watch. Niners, Falcons, Buccaneers, Panthers, Broncos, Cardinals, Packers, Lions is probably the best game of the day. Rams, Raiders, and then at night, Chiefs, Seahawks isn't bad. Cowboys and Eagles both at two and four.
I mean, maybe Joe Milton starts against his own team. I don't know. He's with the Eagles now. And Jaden Blue—that's what I would do if I was the Eagles. Screw it, your season's over.
You are playing the Cowboys. Just run Jaden Blue and Joe Milton, two guys that you signed off the Cowboys waivers this season. Go ahead and and do that.
So, college football don't expand. No use wasting any breath because they just did anyway. Nobody asked for it. We didn't even get the chance to like say no. They just did it.
It's happening immediately.
So if you like this system, enjoy it because it is going away and it's going to expand and power. A group of six schools are going to get screwed. I'm gonna, I'm gonna play college football today. I'm gonna redo the divisions and do them how I want them. That that'll fucking show them, bitch.
That'll that'll show them. World Series on Friday. Every day you're out in public, you should be wearing something. Every day you're out in public, you need to be wearing something. Brewers.
Every single day, it doesn't matter. Grocery store run, just taking your garbage out, picking your kid up, going to work.
Something Brewers needs to be on your person. Every single day from now until we win the trophy, okay? Can we do that? Let's do it. All Brewers, all the time.
And if you don't have something, there is plenty of gas station pop-up tents that'll sell you some knockoff, faded merch from twenty years ago for forty-five bucks. Hit it up. We will talk on Wednesday, episode seven, seven, seven. We did it! Here's the seven, seven, seven more.
We'll be live at Pottawatomie in the sport book after Bucks and Wizards. Our first Bucks post game show of the year. I will be doing Bucks post game shows on the regular, but not right away.
So when do the Bucks play? They play Wednesday.
So yes, a show. Then they play on Friday afternoon because of the World Series. Maybe we could sneak in a post there. I don't know, and a pre-game World Series. I don't know.
Then they play again on Saturday night.
Sorry. Oh, against the Sixers, World Series.
Sorry. Then they play against the Pacers on Monday, World Series.
Sorry. Then the Bucks play again on Wednesday, World Series Game Five.
Sorry. Then the Bucks play again on looks like Saturday, the thirty first Halloween World Series.
Sorry, then they play on the second Bucks at Timberwolves.
Okay, so November second, our first Bucks post game show of the year will be. On Wednesday, the twenty-first, and then our second True Bucks post-game show won't be until Monday, or yeah, November the second. Good, there we go. That's the plan. Thank you all.
For riding, whether you've been with us for one or all seven seven six of these, we got seven seven seven tomorrow. Go Brewers! And thanks for stopping into the Winklerverse. Also, Josh Jacobs is coming back. No comment.
