This is the Truth Network. Now the Devil's Nightmare.
Welcome back to another episode of It's Time to Man Up. With me today, Josh Oglesby, and we go back really quite a few years now. I don't know if we ever stepped into the squared circle together that I recall. Maybe I'll ask him about that, but we certainly have wrestling in common, I guess you might say, but we also have business in common and ministry in common. Lots of things in common.
Josh Oglesby, welcome to the Man Up show. Salutations, my brother, and salutations to all the listeners. Hold on, let me Google that word because, you know, being from Russia, I'm not sure what that means. Greetings. Greetings. Greetings.
Thank you for the translation there. Greetings. Well, great to have you, Josh. And of course, we do go back quite a way. Can you recall when we first met, I'll put you on the spot here, or how we first met? We first met, I want to say it's 2013, could have been 2012, so we just passed our 10-year friendship, and it was for wrestling, for a wrestling show. Okay, so was wrestling related? Well, because you were working in ring back in those days, yeah?
Yes, sir, and recently stepped back into the ring. Oh, come out of retirement kind of thing, or just, or what? It was a year and a half off, if you want to call that a retirement. You know how wrestlers do, they retire five times. Or more.
Or way more. But yeah, it was just time after a new chapter of my life kind of got settled, it was just time to get back into my passion. Time to get back in your passion. So at what age did you become passionate about pro wrestling?
I would say around 10 or 11, and then stepped into the squared circle for the first time at age 15, which I had no business being in. 15? Yes, sir. You're kind of like a Terry bam bam Gordy, I'm thinking here.
Well, that's quite the name to compare myself to, but sure. Well, I mean, because he was like 13, 14, 15, something crazy like that, and so how'd that come, so age 15, like were you just like thrown into the ring, or you went to training school, or what did you do? So living in Easley, South Carolina at the time, there were these really flashy commercials that would come up on the TV screen at pretty, pretty low budget. You could tell it was local. And I figured out that it was a wrestling promotion that also had a training school just down the road from me. And if you had your $50 deposit and $25 every session, you would get somewhat trained.
I wouldn't call it formal training. And that's kind of how it got started. And as long as my parents signed a waiver, I could take as many bumps and bruises as I wanted. I was just, you just really let into my, what I was going to ask as the next question was, you're 15, I'm thinking there's got to be a waiver slip involved in there somewhere. So your, your parents signed off on it and said, yeah, go do it, son.
Right. I was being homeschooled. So I didn't have access to, you know, public school sports.
And instead of playing football or amateur wrestling in high school, I jumped into pro wrestling and what a, what a world to adapt to and what a way to have to grow up fast. So, so 15 you're getting trained. So how, so how old were you when you had your first official match?
Official? 15. So, okay. Well, that leads me to another question. So, so how much training did you have them before your first official match?
Oh my gosh. Maybe not much, not much. Three or three or four months. Okay. Okay. Once every Friday.
More than the Russian nightmare. Well, Hey, good. Cause I know, cause I know, you know, my story in that, you know, I had never even stepped into a wrestling ring before they thrust me in, uh, you know, for Jim Crockett and the NWA thrust me into a ring and in the Dorton arena in Raleigh, North Carolina for television, no less a television match. And, uh, so talk about trial by fire. Um, so, so three or four months of, of training and did you win your first match? Yes, I did. Okay. That's started off on a good note. Okay. And, uh, so 15 and, and did that become like, like, like full-time for you or just kind of, you know, every now and then, or what did that look like?
Uh, wrestling consumed my weekends from that point forward for quite a while. So we're, we're sewing. So we're some in their teenage years, like myself, like Moi, little French there, I think. Right. I believe so. Yeah. I was just throwing that out there. Uh, so, so through my teenage years, football consumed my, my time and weightlifting and body building consumed my time.
But for Josh Oglesby, pro wrestling through your teenagers consumed your time and not viewing it on television or going down to an arena and buying a ticket, but actually getting in the squared circle and competing. That would be accurate. Wow.
Okay. And, uh, cause you're down in, in, uh, we didn't say, but you're down in all this started in, in down into South Carolina, kind of the Greenville Anderson area. Is that kind of where all this was happening, taking place? That's right.
Yeah. I started in, uh, it actually between easily in Greenville and, uh, the, the old training facility is, is still there, but it's now a Glencoe fireplace. I'm not sponsored by them.
Just wanted to, uh, show how silly of a transition hardcore pro wrestling. Now, now they sell fireplaces. Hey, maybe they need to be one of your sponsors.
You need to go and tell them the story and say, Hey, this is where it all started for me. You should be sponsoring me. I just, the thought anyway. Uh, so, so, and, and so, okay. So when, when we met, was it, when, uh, three, three count comes to mind, is that the name of the promotion down there? It is now this was probably a year before we kicked off that, that name. Um, actually, no, it was three count. Uh, take that back.
Um, it was for, it was for, uh, to raise money for a missions trip at, uh, one of the churches here in Greenville. So three, three, three, yeah, three count pro wrestling. Right. And, uh, uh, one of the, one of the indie, uh, promotions there in South Carolina, of course, the indie scene, um, you know, is really, you know, once, once things, once the territories, as we know them, right, the territories, began, began to, you might say fade or vanish, disappear. Uh, and it kind of became the big two and then the big one. Uh, and now it's kind of growing again with AEW and impact wrestling and some of the others, uh, ring of honor, you know, some of those that popped up over the years. Um, the indie circuit, uh, really had a surgeon. So what you say, and, and is it, and, or would you say Josh is having a resurgence or just a surgeons?
What would you say? I would say that the bigger, the mainstream wrestling gets the bigger, the hunger is for fans. So supply and demand. Right. And now I believe there's, I believe there's just been a steady growth since, gosh, for a long time now for, I'd say the past 10 years. Uh, it's, it's hard to get online and run out of wrestling to watch from eating any promotion in indie promotion across, uh, across the globe, really.
Yeah. Because, because in, in, you know, many of the listeners to the man up show, uh, you know, are wrestling, but, but some of them are not. So they're not even, maybe they even that familiar with pro wrestling. Uh, but what's, I think what's interesting is, um, with, with the growth of, of indie wrestling, you know, I, and I'll go and do, you know, I'll do autograph signings from like I did for three count back in the day when you and I met, um, and, and other promotions. So, and, and man, they'll, they'll, you know, they'll pack five, 600 people in, in, in a building on a Friday night or a Saturday night. And because, so here's what I want our listeners to understand back in the day, when I was full-time in the ring in the eighties and early nineties, I mean, you know, we were wrestling or could wrestle just about every single night in a town and, and, and we were filling up arenas, you know, where, wherever we went.
And so, uh, you know, and I'm talking, you know, big towns, obviously the Omni in Atlanta, you know, the, the Charlotte Coliseum in North Carolina, the Greensboro Coliseum, you know, you just, the great American bash tour where we took it on tour to all the big football stadiums. Right. But then there were the little armories, like the Lynchburg armory or a buddy of mine who, when he was growing up, went to the Bell auditorium. You probably know where that is, Josh.
I'm thinking. Yeah. Uh, but yeah, the spot I'll help you out Augusta, Georgia Bell auditorium in Augusta, Georgia township auditorium in, in, in Columbia, South Carolina. But even high schools, I remember, I remember wrestling at Ralph Sampson's high school, you know, who's Ralph Sampson. Well, he was like seven foot ginormous, uh, NBA famous Ralph Sampson right up in Virginia.
So you had all these little high schools, uh, uh, armories and et cetera, et cetera, et cetera, that these promotions, all these territories, uh, used to wrestle in. And then when all that dried up and went away, well, it left in a sense of void. Right. And, and, and you said supply and demand. So what the indie circuit or the independent promotions have the opportunity now to do is come in and fill that void. Correct.
That would be 100%. Right. There's, there's nothing like going to a local wrestling show and, you know, seeing the, the, the future stars, you can say that, you know, I paid 10, 20 bucks for a ticket and sat front row for that price. And I got to see, you know, whoever's making headlines nowadays or in the future, you can say that you, uh, you got to witness them in their early career. Who, who would, are there any names that come to mind on that note, Josh, any names that come to mind that maybe you were on the same card with, or, or you just know the story, that story that they started on the indie circuit, you know, somebody paid $10 for a front row seat to see them. And now they're a superstar in WWE or the AEW. Sure. Well, the first one that comes to mind would be, uh, back in oh five, six, when I got started, uh, a guy by the name of Austin creed, uh, who WWE fans would know him now as Xavier Woods of the new day.
Okay. And the longest running WWE tag team champions. So quite an accomplishment for him, but getting to be on the same show with him, uh, on a regular basis and, and even training with him for a few months.
Uh, it's pretty cool to see, uh, my old friend now on WWE television, just, you know, making quite a name or has already made quite a name for himself. And so really what the Andy circuit provides is where the territories once provided a smaller territories, once provided an avenue for a guy to make a name for himself and then maybe launch that career into a major Federation or major organization, the indie circuit now provides that opportunity.
So that's pretty cool. And so you've made an executive decision now after some time off to jump back into active in ring wrestling. What's your character, Josh?
It's what it's been for the past 10 plus years. I am the Scottish prince, Joshua O'Glaspie. Nice. Nice. Well, I, I, I like, uh, I like, I like Scottish. I do like that, uh, because I have, uh, because I have, um, uh, a Scottish background, you know, for myself. Um, um, right. Right. So, so I can re I can relate, uh, relate to that.
Uh, so, uh, I love it. And, uh, and, and so how many, like on a, on a, on any given month, like how many matches currently are, are you, you know, half a dozen, three, four, five, how many matches are you involved in? Well, it's super limited right now. Um, I'm just wrestling for three count.
Okay. And there's, uh, I've, I've had one match so far this year when I, when I decided to jump back in about five, six months into the year. And as of right now, I've got maybe three matches scheduled throughout the rest of the year. Uh, but that doesn't mean I'm not accepting bookings and we'll probably pick up, uh, possibly another handful.
So it's a limited schedule. Well, and again, there are a lot of, uh, wrestling promotions out there. So, uh, so like if there's a promoter listening today and he says, Hmm, I think I'd like to give this guy a look or give this guy a call. I mean, how would people get in touch with Josh Oglesby for, for wrestling? The easiest way to find me for, uh, anything, uh, also being in the real estate world and, you know, pro wrestling world. Uh, I've got a YouTube channel and, uh, as you recently discovered, and, uh, it's called upstate SC living, that's upstate SC living. You can book a 30 minute call with me to discuss anything, uh, wrestling or, uh, real estate related or my, my personal phone number is just right there on the front page. That shouldn't be too hard to find. So, uh, that would be the easiest way.
Okay. And, uh, and I was going to jump into what, you know, what, what pays the bills, which, uh, which, uh, is, is the real estate and, and, uh, which I want to share a funny story. I think it's a funny story about that in just a minute, but before we get there, um, one of the other things you're very involved in is, is ministry work as well. In fact, um, you know, you've not only attended man camp and of course our listeners have heard a number of different interviews over the years about man camp and, and the impact it's made on men's lives and the changes, you know, the changes in terms of relationships, the dynamic between a dad and a daughter, a dad and a son, you know, marriages. I mean, it's just all over the physical, physical wellness, you know, the different things we address at camp and the impact that's made. Um, now you come back and, and you volunteer your time, you serve on staff and let's, let's address for a moment the impact man camp has had on you. Let's just start with that.
Why would a guy out there listening or a woman out there listening who has a special man in her life want to encourage that man perhaps to come to man camp? What, what would you say if you could distill it down? What would you say? I would say that for me, uh, before going into camp, I, I thought I had a good foundation of Christian, of my Christianity, of my relationship, uh, with our Lord and savior. But once, uh, a day or two passed, I realized my foundation was built on sand up until that point. And after, after, uh, the event was over, I took back home to my family, uh, to my wife and my daughter, uh, my wife at the time and my daughter, um, I took home a new man. The old man died up on the mountain top and the new man came back to the point that, uh, my wife said, I, I don't recognize you.
And it was through the, just through the glory of God, the, the, the process that's put into place, the system that's in place and just the fellowshipping with, with men and time away from these bricks that we carry around in our pockets and pocket books called cell phones time away from that. It's, you just can't put a price on it. So it was, would you, would this be fair to say? And could I tell people all the time, though, probably the four key words I hear at the end of any camp from, from a good majority of men, not a hundred percent of them, but a good is that was life changing. Would that be accurate?
It'd be super, it'd be more than accurate. That was life changing. And, and, and you went home a different man and different from what you thought you had in terms, as you said, a foundation. And when you, when you, when you put yourself in that setting, it's amazing how, and, and as a staff, we just try to kind of step back out of the way. Now we, you know, we got things that we guide us, guide us through the week, kind of a, you know, a, an agenda, so to speak, but, but at the end of the day, we want to allow the Lord to do what he does best and that's tap into, touch the heart of a man and, and bring about whatever necessary changes that, that may need to take place in each and every particular man.
And God knows exactly what that is. And so for the men willing to commit and come and put themselves in a setting like that, the stories are endless. Like, in fact, go to coloff.net and click on the link to Man Camp. And you'll see some, not only how, how relationships have been restored. And I mean, even, even testimonies of wives that have written to us, that have written in and said, here's the difference I saw in my husband, or the different, now the relationship my husband has with our children. And so, you know, you'll see pictures before and after of men who God convicted them of their physical health. And, and you'll see some before and after photos of a guy, you know, one of the guys comes back staff now, he was 240 something. And now he's down to about 200, looks amazing. He could swim four laps in a pool.
Now he can swim 125 laps in a pool without stopping. And so, you know, just one of many, many stories of how Man Camp is impacting the, not only the lives of individual men like Josh, but, but the ripple effect of that for families and, and as, as well. And so go check that out. So Josh, you've been instrumental and a key part of that. And I want our listeners to understand and know too, that, that even, even in that, the pursuit of, of that relationship with Jesus, you know, it doesn't create this perfect rose petal path, right? I mean, there's still, you know, there's times I know, even in my own journey with the Lord that I've had to, I'll just say this way, I've drank some, some bitter water, you know, I've gone through some things, even in serving the Lord. And, and that's okay. Cause every trial and test has been a, a test of my faith and, and a building of my character. And I know you could probably essentially just say, amen to that, right, Josh?
I could say a lot more, but amen. I know you could, I know you could. And, but I also want to just segue into, uh, what I think is a funny, a funny part of the story is, you know, you mentioned the real estate and what you do now in real estate down there in the Greenville area. And, uh, I recently was talking to a doctor friend of mine and he was encouraging me to buy some property and build a barn dominium. And I'm like a barn to who? And he's like a barn dominium, dude, you know, go here, let me show you a couple of videos. And so he piqued my interest.
And so I got back home and I started doing a little research and I'm watching this, this video on YouTube on the pros and cons of barn dominiums. And I'm like, why do I recognize that voice? And, and I just kind of the voice caught more of my attention cause I'm just kind of listening. And I look at it, I go, Oh my gosh, it's Josh Oglesby. What the heck Josh Oglesby. And I look at him like 129,000 views. I'm like, man, this dude's gone viral.
And for the record one. So the pros and cons of barn dominiums, Josh Oglesby on YouTube, go check it out, especially if you're not familiar with barn dominiums, but, um, you did a phenomenal job on, on that video. And, uh, just real quick, we only got a few minutes left, but just tell us real quick about, you know, your, your, your, your passion now, you know, for real estate and why you got involved in that. Uh, and, and then of course, you know, we want people we'll, we'll give you a website one more time or how they can connect with you one more time. But why did you get passionate in that about real estate? Well, it was something that I kind of been kicking around in my, in my head for a while that I wanted to get involved in, whether it's investing or being an agent myself. And after being shown so much, uh, guidance and just, I'll leave it at that guidance from one of my, uh, past real estate agents that helped me find a home.
And she was just like a mother to me. And I thought, man, if, if there's a shortage of people like her, I'd love to, to maybe fill up that shortage at least a little bit and never, never pulled the trigger on it, but, uh, sort of a life change happened. And I had, I was kind of forced to enter a new chapter of my life. So at the time it was, it was kind of out of necessity when I finally pulled the trigger to jump into something new, but to talk about God's timing, I was paired with, I couldn't think of a better brokerage that fits my personality and how I want to do business. And it's just been, it's just been a blast most days. It's been a blast marketing in a, in kind of a new school type of way. And it, it just felt like I fit into a, into a perfect little, little groove in the real estate world. Well, cool. And, and, and you'll see, Josh has some pretty really cool state of the art, uh, virtual real estate tour, home tours, et cetera.
Very cutting edge. So I want to, are you, are you predominantly in Greenville, South Carolina, in that market, Josh? Yes, sir.
Green, the greater Greenville area in a little more South than that, uh, Oconee County, where the, where the beautiful lakes are. Uh, so that would sum it up. Okay. And, uh, what a phenomenal job you're, you're, you're doing utilizing, uh, utilizing video there. And, uh, so if you're in the market for a new home in the Greenville, South Carolina area, be sure to look up Josh Oglesby.
One more time. How, how, how can people find you? How can they connect with you? They can find me on my YouTube channel at Upstate SC Living.
And that's Upstate SC Living on YouTube. All the, all the different ways that you can contact me, you can find it there. And I've given you a lot of options to connect with me.
Well, that's incredible. So real estate, of course, pro wrestling. If you want to see Josh in action, Hey, it may, you may even actually see him in the wrestling ring. And then of course, ministry work, he comes in and serves at man camp, as part of our staff now. And it's been, you know, instrumental and just loving on men, serving men on, on CA at camp as well. And Josh, I appreciate, uh, appreciate our friendship over the years and appreciate you being on the man up show today. Well, I couldn't thank you enough for the opportunity to just share my story and share the word of God and what man camps doing for me. And, uh, I, I did want to remind you that you and I have been in the ring, uh, about seven years ago and I'm still feeling that sickle, feeling the effects of the Russian sickle.
However, you, you, you lived another day to at least talk about it. Right. So, all right. You took care of me. That kind of slipped my mind right there.
I might've, I might've intentionally painted a mental block on that one. So anyway, well, Josh Oglesby, uh, thank you, all of you out there. You're so great to tune in each and every week. And I really appreciate all of you and just want to encourage you today and challenge you at the same time, go out today and just live a God field and have a God blessed day until next time.
