The book of Nehemiah is about rebuilding the people of Jerusalem, not just the city. The people of Jerusalem repented and confessed their sins, and through fasting, mourning, and separating themselves from unhealthy relationships, they drew closer to God. They also prayed and praised God for who He is and what He has done for them. The people of Jerusalem recognized God's sovereignty, character, and goodness, and they confessed their sins daily. They made a covenant with God and sealed it with their princes, Levites, and priests. The response to God's word is to respond with repentance and turning towards Him.
