One of the primary goals of our show, HOPE FOR THE CAREGIVER, is to better equip and inspire others on how to help caregivers. Carlos called the show to talk about that, and just made our day ...because he GETS it!
You can hear Carlos' heart in his call and he is a wonderful example of those seeking to minister and care for hurting souls.
Peter Rosenberger is the host of HOPE FOR THE CAREGIVER. Heard weekly on 200+ stations, Peter draws upon his 34 years as a caregiver to help strengthen fellow caregivers.
Christmas gift why not the one she can have a couple ways to check. Maybe it's not the get for your family but it is the perfect gift for poor family ninja chicken can break the cycle of poverty for poor family yes chicken chickens and provide nourishment for family and they can sell those exit the market for income when you donate a chicken or any other gospel for Asia. 100% of what you give goes to the field the ball went gospel fundraiser to support family and Jesus family this Christmas, give them six exclamation chickens and camping you ever struggled to trust God would see things D I'm Gracie Rosenberger, 1983 I experienced a horrific car accident, leading to 80 surgeries in both legs.
He became, I questioned why God allows something so brutal to happen to me. But over time, my questions changed and I discovered courage to trust God that understanding along with an appreciation for quality prosthetic limbs led me to establish standing with help more than a dozen years we been working with the government of Ghana and West Africa, equipping and training local workers to build and maintain quality prosthetic limbs for their own people on a regular basis we purchase ship equipment and supplies and with the help of inmates in a Tennessee prison.
We also recycle parts from donated lambs. All of this is to point others to Christ. The source of my hope and strength, please visit standing with help.com to learn more and participate in lifting firstname.lastname@example.org. I'm Gracie. I am stating without hearing American family radio I this is the show for you as a family caregiver 888-5888 40 hope for the caregiver.com 58 8040 Carlos Mississippi Carlos Carlos world record remark. What you do. Which organization I'm not a caregiver brought care, and I was all know that information at your your putting out and so I came across someone.
Our colleague caregiver and follow through with some of the instructions you looking to pay him asking them how they do it so my question for you when they start recording themselves back to the wonder they're giving care to how you redirected back to the house. Thank you for doing that is so cool Carlos that you that you are aware of that that that that you have accomplished in that one sentence with this whole show was about us equipping people to be able to ask about their go to struggle with their going to revert back to speaking what you lately speak in first person plural and third person singular so you say how you feeling and then they will say will he had a bad night or she's not doing real well and you are our situation is this, that they have a very hard time using the word of I am struggling so what you can gently do not know the relationship you have with them and make sure that it's not on the fly were there, you know, try to do Seven things.
One time to say look, I know that what you love what is going through is really important, but for this moment.
I would really like to just hear how your heart is doing and just give them the space because they they start stammering they may start tearing up. And so make sure you very gentle with them because they're not going to be very good at this and then go from there.
It's like I said of the earlier segment, you know, say look I see you I see you with this and I see the magnitude of what you carry in our inner heart with you. How are you feeling and if you notice on the show that the first question I asked for every colors everything and I'm not trying to do this that were basing our our sense of well-being and are our our our theology on how we feel that it's it's a starting point for caregiver to learn to express what's going on with their heart, and I don't really care what comes after the word I can say I'm mad or resentful of just discourage whatever beliefs were now having this conversation and we can go from there and just see ended and listen to that you know that quite was for the Holy Spirit to give you that inside of of what to ask the symptoms you need ask anything.
Sometimes you just need to be the fact that your your your inquiring about them at all.
Often times is is a sufficient step to move them off of this insurance block that there are think they could almost as really is more like it. It's there in quicksand and it's just sucking them in and sometimes just asking them how they feel and not letting them get away with not answering the question, but not in a mean way just be very gentle gets them took place with her standing on a piece of solid ground for a few moments in it so important for their soul to get some oxygen there there almost suffocating. You know, we were all wearing masks right now and do you a given voice. You know how it feels when you wear that mask afterwhile and you feel like you just can't breathe.
Carlos, you know those yes I get this thing off of me. She should've could've the rinses get a car usual route is that you like that. That's the way caregiver feels all the time all the time and so you want to help them get a place where they could just take a breath and ends and what that looks like is being an inner end in a quiet place or go to safer place was somebody like you Carlos what you just said you your your looking at them you're seeing them your wanting to engage with them and and so did you can go from there to thank you once last time you saw your doctor and in such as this thing such as that it's it's really no more complicated.
That is just learning how to speak a new language and then caregivers have their own language and and that they really do it it's just it out. I'd love to say is more complicated that what is not and so is just a matter of speaking their language, but that's what but you don't because that's what Price does to us closest where we are and and you know he knows we can get to where he is sinking when we are in just just hangs out with this.
He just sits with his, and I don't have a nightmare. The person is not a believer so that I could issue an Excel to tread lightly on that to because you know I share my say about you know you and and and cultured it with you we you know the people I don't know if the caregiver took up the book of the same thing as you know somebody who is not your character, but when you want to share their faith. They don't want to hear it. No other means in which to know your character to retaliate. You try to share your faith will share your faith without words.
Okay try that has the only person the only person that is going to be able to effectively convert or transform this individual's Christ not you and me and why don't you don't have to go out there and preach them the five points of Calvinism. Of the four spiritual laws. What you can do though sometimes it it's even more effective. Is it when you you don't you sit with you.
Just be with that himself is different.
This is this is different.
The people are used to being preached that people are used to be a table if you do this. This will happen. People used to that the condition for that.
They're defensive about that. They're not used to people caring about your car that's that's a whole different thing.
Just keep hearing and and then it will go ahead well? Give a copy. You mentioned your you know your location from our book you mentioned your station all of your organization and I would maybe write it down as you were talking or mentioned so caregiver to look up record.com okay that's with everything that I do. This is located, but the book is up for sale wherever books are sold and where I do have a good well right hope for the caregiver document okay hope for the cure is hope for the caregiver in the podcast and so forth. But back to this thing with this this other person. If you keep this path up and just again go back to those words. You know if they may ask you why you do this he said was look I see you and I see the management of what you carry. And I hurt with you and at some point they're going to that what you're doing is going to cause them to ask why you're doing it and that's when you have the moments he this is what Christ did for me. Into my brokenness. He reached into my heart ache and and and rescued me and and and Eddie. Eddie spoke to my sin and my mom messed up life, you little Bill Gates or to get all I had to offer him was brokenness and strife, but he made something beautiful of my life. You know that when I go something beautiful, something thing to my confusion.
He understood that I was crazy or saying that she sings that I just played but it's it's it's one of those things that you realize only a minute. I'm not here to rescue this person. I'm here to reflect what Christ is done in my life and sometimes add that I think it was Augustine little to to early church fathers who said you know preach the gospel always and if necessary use words and you can preach the gospel in ways that you can even imagine without talking sometimes we have a prosthetic limb ministry that was started and and limiting something when you put a leg on somebody or somebody's kids even if they don't want to set up to this of that they did understand the language very well you get the point across real quick. You know sometimes it's about a cool cup of water. Sometimes it's about a clean gutter sometimes it's about bringing something from the grocery store swinging about with them some milk or whatever, it doesn't have to be much that it's you reflecting what God is done in your life in Carlos. It means so much that this is important to you. It really does. I wanted you don't think you you made my day here because it means so this is what you and I'm going to get that book so I can no further understand know how to you know the light go to the character was like at that. Unfortunately I'm not in that situation, you knowing it could change at any moment because you sovereign but nevertheless I want to be effective with you and what does that I know are caregivers so thank you sir. You sure that book would you done with it with you pastor because part of what I want to do is equip pastors are sometimes the first wanted you to have defense with these folks and I want to include pastors of note know how to speak to the what's going on in their headspace and an end. Thank you for listening this network in the show and and be a part of of what were doing here Carlson really means a lot and I thank you for that. Okay, here we are right here yes are you too buddy to and it is really no more complicated that I really pursue the call from Kos is really the more complicated we don't have to overthink this. We treat others the way we want to be treated with that with the with the challenges of our own lives. We want somebody to say well if you had done this in your way to go.
I told you so or God's will get you for that. He was faithful to Nuno said came down from glory and arm is that the starting point. All I go to hope for the caregiver.com.
Part of what were doing today hope for the character.com will see you next week you ever struggled to trust God when lousy things happen to you. I'm Gracie Rosenberger in 1983 I experienced a horrific car accident, leading to 80 surgeries in both legs and became it. I questioned why God allowed something so brutal to happen to me. But over time the questions changed and I discovered courage to trust God that understanding along with an appreciation for quality prosthetic limbs led me to establish standing with help more than a dozen years we been working with the government of Ghana and West Africa, equipping and training local workers to build and maintain quality prosthetic limbs for their own people on a regular basis.
