All righty, we continue. Zach Gelb shows CBS Sports Radio. So we're gearing up for the college football season. You got week zero this week. And then, of course, coming up next week is the true week one of the college football season. Hickey, I don't know about you, I hate the term week zero. Why?

I've never liked it. I think it should just be incorporated in week one. I know it's past the, you know, it's a week before in advance, so that could sound a little bit funky. But the first game of the season is week one. It's not like Notre Dame when they get set for Navy says, all right, we're in week zero, folks. They're saying, all right, it's week one of our schedule. That's why I would just kind of call it week one as well and have it span over two weeks.

That's always been a minor gripe that I've had. I think it's the dumbest thing ever, week zero. Week zero is perfect college football where it makes no sense.

It's a little wacky, but everyone accepts it. I love it. It's better than week before week number one. Mouthful there. I would just call it week one.

I can't wait, though. So that first college football Saturday of the year, I always go to Mraz's house. I think we've now done that three or four years in a row. So I texted Mraz yesterday and I go, do you like Chick-fil-A? Because I bring something every year. Like one year I brought two cases of beer. Another year I got him an ice cream cake so he could stuff his fat face with it.

I think I brought something else another year. And I texted him, do you like Chick-fil-A? And he goes, you really asking me that question?

And I said, yeah. Like what other large, like what large fellow do you know that does not like Chick-fil-A? But I wanted to be a courteous guest and not bring it. And then of course, Mraz is like the one large fellow that doesn't like Chick-fil-A.

And the next thing you know, he's just like giving me crap for it. So I think I'm going to bring a party size tray of the chicken nuggets that they have at Chick-fil-A with all the dipping sauces as well. Forget fat or skinny. What person do you know doesn't like Chick-fil-A? That's a good point.

Probably only my mother. Really? Yeah. So where we used to live, like my childhood home, they once opened the Chick-fil-A and the Chick-fil-A is adjacent to a really good diner in town. But the Chick-fil-A became so popular because Chick-fil-A is so popular that it caused so much traffic where they had to hire a parking lot attendant to make sure that they could find a way to not have the traffic spill over into the main road.

So for whatever reason, my mom was just annoyed with all the traffic, bitching and complaining. And I said, you know, that Chick-fil-A is actually really good. So during the pandemic, when I went home to live with my folks for about like four or five months, I got my mom Chick-fil-A and my mom is not a fast food person.

My mom eats very healthy. And my mom, like when I was growing up, she would hate when we used to ask to go get fast food. So I think it was more so the perception in her mind about it ruined it before you even got her some of the food. But she was like, yeah, it was all right.

Not really her cup of tea. So outside of my mother, I don't know anyone that despises Chick-fil-A. But when you're a guest of someone else, you don't want to be that guest that brings something and then the person doesn't like it.

And then they think of you as, oh, you're that person that brought that food that I didn't like at the house. So I'm going to do a party tray of Chick-fil-A chicken nuggets, which are delicious. I could sit there and eat a hundred of those with all the dipping sauces.

What's your favorite Chick-fil-A dipping sauce, by the way? You may be shocked to hear this. Let me guess. Sure. You're going to say two things. There's two things you can potentially say. One is going to be, I don't need the sauce.

I'm hickey. It's so good the chicken that I don't need the sauce. Or you're going to say it's the general Chick-fil-A dipping sauce.

You are correct on the first one. I know sauce. I'm a dry guy. No sauce on burgers, no sauce on dogs, no sauce with nuggets, no, no ketchup or any other sauce with fries for the most part, for the most part, you know, animal style at, uh, at, uh, what you want to call it in and out burger. I'll go for a burger in America, in and out burger.

I would agree with that. Fries are not good. I worked for Angelo Cataldi at Sports Radio 94 WIP and all he would do, like he has an in and out addiction.

All he would do is say, Oh, I love it. And now it's the greatest thing ever. So one of the Superbowls, when I was out there, they had me go try in and out burger to get my, my review of it. And I thought it like it wasn't bad, but I don't think it was that much different than McDonald's. And I'm not a big McDonald's fan, but I didn't think it was that much different than McDonald's. Burger is good. The fries are well, well underwhelming. So I like the Polynesian sauce from Chick-fil-A.

They have, I forget what my favorite one. It's something sriracha. I forget what it is, but it's like a really like sweet and then also spicy sauce that is absolutely delicious. So I'll get a bunch of, uh, dipping, uh, sides and then a bunch of sauces and then bring that over to Miranda's house. You want to come by the way, a lot of people are coming from a CBS sports radio and WFA. I think Tommy Lou Gower's going, I know Carlos with a K he Carlos with a K knows how to prepare. He, he texted me today. I'm bringing some beer.

What kind of beer would you like? Look at Carlos with a K. I don't know if he's sucking up a little bit or just being a very nice person, but look at Carlos with a K knowing how to warm my heart just a little bit. Wow. Carlos respect. He's trying to move in the, up in the fill in lineup, which he's no, I don't want to break it for him, but he's pretty much high up there when I'm asked for felons here at CBS sports radio. You know what? He's not number one.

And maybe how you get to number one is by bringing a nice case of beer that you like. So smart man for Carlos. We just fired Hickey as the producer of his heck help show on CBS sports radio. And second thought, no way. What got Hickey fired?

Carlos with a K got me a six pack. I was thirsty. So let's do this right now.

What do you do? You're going to Penn state, right? That's right. So I appreciate the invite, the second hand invite from you and not in front of the main host. Oh, you would've got invited, but it's an open invitation. You're more than welcome to come and you're more than welcome to go, but you're going to that Penn state West Virginia game at 7 30 PM.

That's right. So what are you doing during the day? I'm actually excited. You're going to, for the first time ever, go to the bars to pregame instead of a tailgate. What time around? Because I remember when I used to go visit my friends at Michigan and they lived in a fraternity house, we would, it was like a 3 30 PM Eastern time game. The sorority that they were closest with was like come over to the house at like 5 AM to make sure that everybody was up. And there may have been a few sorority girls that were sleeping overnight before, and they would just make sure that everyone was up to, to get the first beer pong game going by 6 AM. And when you would start, it was like 30 something cups of beer pong.

It wasn't traditional beer pong. You would start at that fraternity house, then make your way to another tailgate at about like 10 AM. And then you'd be drinking until two, two 30 before you had to make the walk over to the stadium for the three, three 30 kickoff. So take me through the, and you're going with your parents, right?

Yeah, so it's a little different. I think I know some people that I'm friendly with that are going, so that could change things. I'm not sure to be honest because with them, they're not the biggest drinkers, so we're not going to be out there at 11 AM. I also don't know what the bar scene is like in terms of get there earlier. I'm going to imagine it's not that much different than when you were a student. Well, I just, we never went to the bars as like a kid or I should say as a student because you weren't 21 tailgate.

We were always in the tailgate lots, so we were always out with a car. So I don't, I don't think, I mean, they're very strict in terms of people, so they don't cram it in, which is annoying. So I don't know, to be honest, we're going to, I would say around one o'clock maybe, but you probably want to watch some of the games, right? I know there's not a lot of marquee games. You probably want to watch some of the games.

That is also part of, yeah, so I'm going to ballpark that any sort of, you have no plan Intel, Intel or idea. Well, no, I mean second a week, so I don't know, but here's what I'm surprised by. I've never met your father. I feel like your father, just from what I hear about him, is a big grill guy. You guys don't bring something up tailgate in the parking lot, crush a bunch of beers and a father hickey doesn't have, let's make him sound like he's a religious figure, doesn't have the grill going with some like burgers, some dogs, maybe get some meatballs and chicken wings. Yeah, but because again, it's just us three for the most part.

It's like a smaller crew. So you know, we'll try something different. This is kind of, yeah, this is some, I think we might play golf two in the morning.

This could be a different sort of experience and I'm actually excited for it. You're going to play 18 in the no, no, no, nine, nine quick nine. So you're gonna play nine in the morning at what, like nine or 10 AM be done by noon and then shower and let's go.

Nice and easy. You know what that tells me? Your mom's like, get both of you two animals out of the, out of the hotel room and have them go on the golf course while mom just like hangs out by herself. Oh no, she loves golf. She plays. Oh, she plays. Oh yeah.

I apologize. So she'll be out there. I didn't know mama hickey was a big time golf. So is she the best golfer out of the three of you?

No. How would you rank it? Um, on any given day, I'd probably say me and my dad are pretty close. Neither of us are very good.

Um, I would say maybe me number one. What are you shooting? Um, like a hundred, 105 in that range. Gotcha. I don't play enough.

That's fine. I play a ton. I shoot like a hundred, 105. I go for, if I am anywhere near a par, I am like, let's go. Even like honestly, a bogey, my God, this is great hole.

Let's move on. I saw Greg Gianotti who used to work at CBS sports radio the other day and uh, we were talking about golf cause he started to get the golf itch the last a year or so. And I said, all I need really, when I golf, give me like one or two pars, give me a chance for a birdie here or there. And it gets me coming back all the time because you have one good hole in golf.

You're like, this is the greatest thing ever. And then I have friends that are really good golfers. Like one of my buddies shot an 80 this summer and another one of my buddies broke 80. So they are, they're fun to golf with because they make you better when they give you tips and things like that. But it's so fun to see them play because they're so good and better than I will ever be at golf. But the thing is, it's crazy what they get frustrated over where they'll hit a shot and it'll be like a little bit to the left, but it'll go 265 yards.

And I'm like, what are you bitching about? If that was me, I would walk into the fairway and do the worm. But because you're in the rough a little bit off to the left side and you hit the ball, um, you know, a country mile all the sudden you're going to bitch about that. So it's fun a little bit because then I could make fun of them and talk crap even though they're like 40 like 30 something strokes better than me when we actually play on the golf course. Let me get the ball in the air. Somewhat shrinks that got a slice on the drive and I am honestly I'm happy. You know what? I've not been a big driver this summer.

I've I have played my iron game has got really good and my driver so consistent that I just try to hit the shot right down the middle off the tee even if it's not going as far as it would maybe with the drive just because I trust the iron game a little bit more or a lot more. All right, let's do this. College football season is upon us. That's why we're talking about Hickey's weak tailgate scene that's coming up to Happy Valley for a veteran college football fan.

You would think by now he would have the emphasis on the tailgate and the food and all that, but that's just not who Hickey is. We're gonna do a little draft here. We're gonna pick five names. I think this is gonna be the toughest draft we've ever done because outside of I want to say Caleb Williams, there's a lot of question marks this year on who you could expect to be a Heisman Trophy finalist for some of these guys are really good players, but you wonder how good their team is going to be because that's part of the Heisman Trophy. You could have a great individual season.

You have to have some sort of team success as well. So I'm going to put one caveat here. Five names each. You could pick more than one, but at least one has to be a non quarterback because I don't want this just be five quarterbacks, five quarterbacks.

Quite frankly, even if I didn't put that that parameter there, I do think one of us would have taken a non quarterback because this could be a year where a non quarterback wins the award with some of the big names at the non quarterback position, even with how tough that is. So I'll be nice. I'm in a good mood today. Hickey, I'll let you go first. Who are you taking here?

Wow, I am truly shocked. I will take Tamita Slam Dunk and back to back winner Caleb Williams. You know why I wanted you really go first there?

Why is that? It's so tough to win the award twice and in back to back years. I knew you were going to take Caleb Williams. So even though that there's a good chance of that happening and right now he's the betting favorite at plus 500. Oh, good odds.

Not bad at plus 500 where maybe throw a few shekels down on that. But I knew you were going to take him and I don't want to take Caleb Williams. My first pick. Man, maybe I should have taken the first pick because it's tough right off the bat.

I'm going to go with the program that at the end of last year I was speaking about them in a very positive way. And not only that, this is a program where I said in the off season for the next five years, if I had to pick three coaches in college football that I trust the most, those three coaches were going to be Nick Saban, Kirby Smart and then also Brian Kelly. I'm going off the prediction that LSU that I made will be in the college football playoffs.

They may not even win the SEC, but I think two SEC teams will get in the college football playoffs. And that means I'm going to go with their quarterback. I'm going to take Jayden Daniels as my pick here for the Heisman Trophy. So you go Caleb Williams. I go Jayden Daniels. Who is your next pick? I will stick. I think we're going to do a snake drop. No, I'm just playing.

I burned by that once already. I will take Michael Penix Jr. of Washington. Second most passing yards last year. If I think USC is going to the playoff, I think they're winning the national title to be honest and winning the Pac-12. You think they're winning the national title with no defense? Yes. Wow.

Yes they do. Well USC enjoy not getting in the college football playoff after the hickey hacks. If it's not USC, the team coming out of the Pac-12 I think will be Washington. Loaded roster, big time receivers. Michael Penix Jr. is going to light it up in year two, put him on the Heisman watch.

So I'm going to pick a name here off your theme. Where if you would have told me entering last year that Michael Penix would have put together a Heisman Trophy quality season, caliber season, you would have laughed at me, correct? Because Michael Penix was known for just being injured unfortunately at Indiana and then also having a great touchdown up against Penn State. But you would have laughed at me for that.

Also a fraudulent call, but yes. If I would have told you last year that Bo Nix would also play himself into the Heisman Trophy, you would have laughed at me as well because we both were like, Bo Nix is that guy that they always say is supposed to be good and then doesn't put it together. I will go with Bo Nix here because I look at the Pac-12. People have asked me, USC or the field, I've gone against USC. My pick was Washington. So I like your pick of Michael Penix Jr.

But if it's not Washington, if it's not USC, it very well may be Oregon. And I was really impressed with the job of Bo Nix last year. So I will take Bo Nix here. So so far, Caleb Williams, Michael Penix for Hickey, yours truly Jayden Daniels and Bo Nix. So that is three Pac-12 quarterbacks off the board and one SEC quarterback.

Look at the world that we live in right now. This is really tough here for pick number three. Well, you got three more picks to make. I know.

You know what? We're gonna go early. We're gonna non quarterback here at pick number three, Blake Corum. Michigan's going 13-0. They're winning the Big Ten for the third year in a row. He was probably going to win the Heisman Trophy or at least be invited to New York bare minimum before he unfortunately got hurt against Illinois.

And then his season ended right there. Big bounce back here. This team is legit. And if you have a cultural playoff contender, I don't think JJ McCarthy is going to throw it all over the yard.

I'll take friend of the show Blake Corum. That is true. He's not been on the show three times. That's the rule.

If you're on the show three times, you're a friend of the show. And not only that, I think we were the first people last year early. I'm talking like September to make the charge and the push for Blake Corum to win the Heisman Trophy. And if he didn't get hurt, he would have won the award. And I'm not just saying that I would have voted for him because we made the push, but I am a Heisman Trophy voter. At that final week of the season, right, conference championship game, I ended up going, my ballot last year was Caleb Williams won. I had Max Duggan two and then in at the three spot, it was Blake Corum. But if Max Duggan, if Sonny Dykes would have gave the ball to Max Duggan and Max Duggan would have scored that touchdown, they would have won the Big 12. I would have put Max Duggan one and Caleb Williams two and it would have been Blake Corum three. But if Blake Corum didn't get hurt, he would have been there for Ohio State where he would have been on the field there. They would have won the Big 10 championship.

I don't get how he would not have won the award. So off you with you taking Corum off the board also helped to remember Barry Sanders chimed in on our interview with with Blake Corum because Blake said he was such a big Barry Sanders fan. And Barry then said, well, I'm a big fan of Blake Corum. So I think we were responsible for the Blake Corum charge last year. I'm going to go off what you just did, taking a Michigan player here, because part of it is you have to have the team success.

I think Michigan's going to have a great season and they're going to be back in the in the college football playoff with legit shot to win the national championship. I like your selection of Blake Corum, but you know that Donovan Edwards is on that team. And Donovan Edwards did a great job last year. And could there be some games where Donovan Edwards is the hot hand that it's not Blake Corum?

Maybe. And maybe that takes away from Blake Corum. And at the end of the year, you saw J.J. McCarthy elevate his game.

And you know how this does usually turn into a quarterback award. I will go with J.J. McCarthy here as my next pick. So two more picks to go each for the Heisman Trophy this year.

Hickey is Caleb Williams, Michael Penix Jr., Blake Corum. I've Jaden Daniels, Bo Nix and J.J. McCarthy, your next pick, my friend. I'm going to go with Cade Klubnick of Clemson. I love Garrett Riley, the addition as offense coordinator.

A Riley brother, Lincoln or Garrett, has only done tremendous things and only put up big time stats with their quarterbacks. Cade has a lot of talent. I think a nice bounce back year for Clemson.

I like that they're under the radar. They'll win the ACC. I'll take Cade Klubnick with pick number four. All right, I'll take my non-quarterback here.

We don't know who's going to be starting a quarterback for Ohio State. We do know that Marvin Harrison Jr. is the best wide receiver in the sport. And I will take Marvin Harrison Jr. if they are in the college football playoff.

Big reason is going to be because of him. I'll take my non-quarterback here with Marvin Harrison Jr. Your last pick? You pick Jaden Daniels because you have LSU going to the playoff. I am not going to pick Dural or even though I have Penn State going to the playoff because I think they have a lot of options and that running game will be featured big time. So I'm going to go instead big 12 champion Oklahoma back on the bandwagon.

Dylan Gabriel, a lot of talent injured last year. Maybe first year still trying to get used to the system. Were you ever off the bandwagon of Oklahoma? Your big supporter there is last year.

Yes. I was that off. I mean, after the TCU cleaned their clock, I was out in Oklahoma. But you picked them before the year to win the big 12. I picked them when the big 12. They lost to Kansas early in the year. And they said on the show hours before they played TCU, Oklahoma is now losing another game. They're going to the big 12.

And then literally five hours later, it's like 60 to nothing TCU in the first quarter. So, OK, I'm out. So from like early October until now, I've been out of Oklahoma. I'm back in those sooners are in the big 12. Dylan Gabriel invited to New York.

OK. I could go I already took an LSU player in Jaden Daniels, so I'm not going to take another LSU player. But Harold Perkins, if you want to consider a defensive player, could be the defensive player that you would consider. My decision here is between Sam Hartman at Notre Dame and then also Jordan Travis, the quarterback at Florida State.

I think Florida State's going to win the ACC. Since this is the final pick, I will then take a quarterback and I will go Jordan Travis. So here are the five. Hickey, the first pick Caleb Williams, Michael Pennix, Blake Corum, Cade Klubnick, Dylan Gabriel. Here's five.

My five are Jaden Daniels, Bo Nix, J.J. McCarthy, Marvin Harrison Jr. and Jordan Travis. Zach help show CBS Sports Radio. Don't we do this song and dance each and every year where the player that is the thought to be number one overall pick if it's not his final year of eligibility in college football says, yeah, I haven't made that decision yet.

That's not where we're at yet in the decision making process. And then always it turns into, oh, well, maybe Caleb Williams will use this as leverage if a bad team gets the number one overall pick and he feels like that he doesn't want to go to that organization. Most of the times when you have the number one overall pick, it's because you're a crappy team in a bad organization. Now, sometimes you just have one bad year and you're in a good environment or you trade up and you have more resources in terms of the actual construction of the team where you move up and it's not the worst situation in the world. But Hickey, this idea or anyone actually thinking that Caleb Williams, who we know is going to be the number one overall pick, that he's going to at the end of the season, go back to USC. I don't get that for for a single second.

Same. And as a fan of a team that maybe could be the number one pick holder at the end of the season, I hope that's not the case. Oh, but stop. You cannot speak in this positive way, hyping up your guy, Anthony Richardson, in if he puts everything together, he could be the best quarterback in the league.

Things that you said. And you're already ready to throw this guy in the trash can for Caleb Williams. Well, Caleb Williams is good enough to where you dump whatever quarterback you got if you're number one to go after him.

But also, too, I mean, look, if they want to give away John and Taylor, Deon Jackson and Evan Hole are not going to exactly help light up the scoreboard like John and Taylor would. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. You're the guy that said yesterday zero point zero percent chance that John Taylor gets treated.

Why are you even envisioning a world and where Jonathan Taylor is now playing for the Colts this year? Shame on me. You're right. Shame on me. Oh, you know what? Your answer should have been there. What's that?

Can I help you out here? Well, he'll be on the Colts. He may just not show up and play.

If you if you read some of those reports with how bad the relationship with that, I would Jonathan Taylor in Indianapolis Colts as some would say, some hogwash right there. That's for me in Rapport. If he's he's playing, I would agree with you. You can say that now all the relationship is broken beyond repair, basically to put words in his mouth. Easy to say that on August 24th. But he's not playing at a max effort September. Well, that isn't. And I also think that there's going to be I also think there's going to be games where he's like, oh, my ankle hurts up.

My back hurts up. My feelings are hurt because I didn't get the contract for running backs. The issue is they do that as held against and they lose money out of their pockets. They could pull that those shenanigans this year. That's going to come back to buy them in January and March and April when you're trying to get a new deal. How stupid are some of the fans in the in the Colts fan base?

How stupid are some of the fans? Yeah. Are you speaking to me directly?

No, no, no. This is actually one of the few times I'm not talking to me about you. So I thought I sent a pretty innocuous tweet out today when I was discussing the Jonathan Taylor situation. Let me just pull up my Twitter page here real quickly so I could get the exact wording of this tweet.

Here it goes. I did this on the elliptical too. I should I should really stop tweeting when I get on the elliptical because I'm in such like a focused state and I'm on that thing for an hour.

My emotions go up and down. And that's you could get like Zach Gail to tweet something that I may look back and go, ah, I didn't really need to put that out there. But anyway, I stand by this.

I wrote, said this before and I'll say it again. The craziest thing about the Jonathan Taylor situation is that the Colts haven't even offered him a new contract. I don't blame JT at all.

At least see how far off the two sides are with an offer. The Colts haven't even done that. You being a cult fan, because a lot of cult fans took offense to this. They were like, oh, he's under contract. What's the value of a contract anymore? Oh, it's a new system.

Who even knows if I'll still be good in this new system coming off a surgery? Oh, well, well, why should they pay him? Like everyone's defending the cult organization. It's amazing.

Absolutely amazing. But you hear that tweet that I just read you word for word. Hickey, do you have any problem with that tweet? Because a lot of cult fans were telling me I was an idiot today.

Yeah, that's I don't know. I mean, there's I'm not defending the cult fans. There's fans like that in every single fan base. And it's annoying.

I don't really get that whole thought of just like he played. Like, that's not how the world works in a way. And that's not, I think, a valid argument of, oh, you played your contract and no one can break that either way no matter what until it's up. That does not happen. And you can't live in that reality.

And also the reverse way. If you're saying that the player should honor his contract, how about the teams? How many times is a guy signed for like four or five years and after a year or two, they get rid of that player Rams fans? I'm sure we're not screaming to the Rams organization. Hey, why'd you cut Todd Gurley?

Easier for me to say. What, before even the extension hit? I don't see any Rams fans saying, oh, that's a bad idea or that was unfair to Todd Gurley. No, you're exactly right on that. So I was surprised that there were some cults fans that were, well, I shouldn't be surprised because there's idiots in every fan base that were up in arms about that tweet. Anyway, to get back to the original point about Caleb Williams, you would agree Caleb Williams could be the number one pick of this year's NFL draft. And right now you would say the team that most likely will be the number one overall pick will be the Arizona Cardinals. Yes. So if that's the case, let me just ask you a question here.

Cause I thought long and hard about this today when I was on the elliptical and I have many thoughts on I'm on the elliptical. And I said to myself, if Caleb Williams gonna be the number one overall pick to the Arizona Cardinals, that means they're going to have to trade Kyler Murray right away. Kyler Murray, who I think could be a good quarterback. He has to mature.

He has to put in more work. I don't know if I'll ever be elite. I don't know if I'll ever be great, but I do think there will be some teams interested in Kyler Murray. The tricky part is it's a big gamble because you're gonna have to give up something. Now, I don't know what you're going to have to give up, but more so it's the contract that you're inheriting where it's not as if you could just try him out for a year and then just, Oh, get rid of him because he just recently signed a longterm extension. So I think this makes it very difficult to answer this question on where will Kyler Murray be playing football next year if in fact the Cardinals have the number one overall pick and they select Caleb Williams. I went to one team and it was tough to find that team, but this is the team I ended up going with.

I'll give it to you in a second. Who is your team that you'll go with first? Right off the bat, I will say the Raiders. Las Vegas Raiders.

Jimmy G is a stop gap for anyone. I don't think gonna be any good, but knock me bad to where they're gonna have a top five pick in the draft. They can get a quarterback easily. It's Josh McDaniels and Kyler Murray compatible. I would say no, but that may be a way to convince Mark Davis if things don't go great to bring him back for your three and maybe convince Devontae Adams to stay in Las Vegas and that went out too.

That's a good one. And you need a better quarterback than Jimmy G in that division. At least someone with upside when you have Patrick Mahomes in that division, Justin Herbert, and then we'll see what is left of Russell Wilson. I'll give you a team here and I think you're going to hate this team because you've been hyping them up all offseason and also you've been hyping up their quarterback. What about the Buccaneers? Could have a new coach next year. If you're enticing Godwin and Evans to want to stay, you're going to have to eventually go through some sort of rebuild. I don't believe anyone.

I don't either. You believe this, that Baker or Kyle Trask will, will last there long term. You have an NFC that does not have a lot of big names. I know Kyler Murray's in the NFC right now. I could see Tampa Bay in a division that's up for grabs where we'll see how we're talking about Desmond Ritter next year. Bryce Young was number one overall pick and Derek Carr is good, but he's not a franchise quarterback.

I look at Tampa Bay as the landing spot there where if I had to make a guest today on August 24th in the year of 2023, but to make a long term prediction here for Kyler Murray, I say he's the quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next year. Don't hate it. It's interesting. It's intriguing.

There's weapons there. Kind of similar vein. I think the commanders are another team that jumps out of Sam Howell, does not play well and probably means Ron Rivera and Josh Harris may be looking to make a splash.

Here's one that would not happen because it's in division, but I think it'd be fascinating. I agree. Hundred percent agree.

Ramps. Hundred percent agree. If you want to keep Sean McVay from going into retirement again and give him a young ish still quarterback that has athletic ability that you can kind of use in a way that he has not had in his quarterbacks with Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford, even though the roster needs an overhaul, you would think, especially with how they get older, could be a quarterback that keeps him around and keeps him on the team. And you know who would be another good team in division? Let's just say if Geno Smith regresses this year and I think Geno Smith's going to be back in place. I think the Seahawks are going to be dangerous.

This won't even be a conversation. They won't trade him in division. But imagine you put Kyler Murray in Seattle with Pete Carroll and you have those three wide receivers, Jackson Smith and Jigba, DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and then the two young running backs and Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet. Not a bad situation. Pete Carroll is a players coach. I could see him being a big Call of Duty player now, too, if they bring Kyler over like the first time they're at Kyler's house, like bonding over playing Call of Duty.

Yeah. John Schneider and Pete Carroll playing Call of Duty with DK Metcalf. I could definitely see that and Kyler Murray where Pete walks in, great energy, rips off the shirt like he did for the DK Metcalf whole pre-draft interview. And the next thing you know, they're all having a good time making jokes at the expense of the Arizona Cardinals, winning games and playing a ton of Call of Duty. Guys being due, just playing video games and ripping their shirts off. It is the Zach Gelb show on CBS Sports Radio.

Sounds like a bachelor party that would go to just add a mustache in there. Sounds fun to me. Alright, we will take a break here. When we come on back, we'll teach you some of the biggest stories in the world of sports with some audio. We'll do the news brief.

You're listening to the Zach Gelb show. Time for your daily news brief. We get you caught up on the rumors, reports and reconnaissance from the day in sports. Alright, let's start off with Kyle Shanahan. He says he hopes Trey Lance remains on the team this season.

This is courtesy of KNBR. I'm really hoping so. I mean, this isn't a thing that we're giving up on Trey. This is more of how Brock played in his seven games and then how good Sam's looked. They both looked good. But we do have to make a decision here.

We got to keep it real in that way. But I feel very, very fortunate to have both of them here. I really hope when it's said and done that all three of these guys are here and we needed four guys last year.

If we can have Trey as an option here, I would feel extremely happy about that. Where do you put that on the BS meter, Hickey? One to ten.

Knowing that Kyle Shanahan is not this big fan of Trey Lance. I will say like one is lowest, ten is highest, right? If he's lying. I will say a 2.5.

Wow. I think it's mostly truthful. I think you learned last year you need bodies and just keep them on as third string.

What's the worst that happens? And I would rather have Trey Lance on the roster compared to getting back like a fifth or a sixth round pick, at least for this season. So I think that part of it is true, but how they're effusive in the praise of Trey Lance. I think that is the worst thing a boss could say or someone in management can say to a quarterback or to anyone in the business. It's something that you did. It's just that this person or that person did better. So it is something that you did. You weren't good enough. Like it's a backhanded compliment where a boss tries to make you feel better about yourself when the job goes to somebody else, but you didn't do enough to get the job.

That's where I struggle with that entire thing, Hickey. I think it's tough because I do think it's like not saying he's good, but it's not like these are the greatest candidates. Like sometimes you get beat out for a job. You're like, Oh, the candidate's so much better. We knew Brock Purdy was going to get the job.

What has Sam Donald done? That is fair. Especially him coming into the system new. You shouldn't lose out to a guy that has been around longer, but not in the system. Kyle Shannon believes Trey Lance will still be good in the NFL.

KMBR. Trey's a very well liked guy. One of the better people I've been around. And I do think he's going to have a lot of success in this league. It's been a tough road for him because he thought times he has gotten an opportunity. He ended up getting hurt and missed that window. And now he's in this position and we'll always try to do right for Trey. If there's a better situation that his heart's in and something like that, we're going to make sure not to do something that hurts him in that way.

Let's go to John Lynch. He says he doesn't think the team will trade Trey Lance KMBR. That's probably the most likely option is that he's here. If we could find a landing spot for Trey, that is, you know, is a really good one for him and, you know, works for our organization. That's not something we we turn a blind eye to, but that's not where our focus is right now. That's kind of where we're at.

Yeah, there's there's viable options for all players. But right now, Trey's a part of our team and we're going to move forward with that in mind. That's if you want him.

I'm not trying to trade him because I want to make us look desperate, but he's available. That's the way that I interpreted that. Here's John Lynch refuting a report on I think it just had a Prescott.

No, this one can be our as well. I referred to the report that they tried to trade Trey Lance around the draft. That's not accurate. So, you know, look at that.

People are going to if I responded to every report, I'd be have no time in my day. But that is not accurate. So, heck, you asked in the B.S. meter one to ten. Where do you put that one on the B.S.

meter? Eight point five. I was going to say thank you.

Glad you're not. So here is Jerry Jones. I've seen everyone tweet about this, but sometimes you see everyone tweet about it.

I go, I don't want to press play because I just want to naturally hear it on the air for the first time. So Sam Williams got arrested again. So second arrest in the year. And this is Jerry Jones having a rather interesting reaction to the arrest.

This shot sounds a little hollow, but he does and is maturing. And he is. Was he going 66 miles an hour? No, this year. So he's 34 miles an hour less than this year than he was last year.

Ninety eight sixty six. So that's improvement. Oh my.

So when I first saw this, I thought someone got duped because, you know, sometimes you see a video and it's someone talking and then they put a different voice over and they make it look like that's the person. Has Jerry Jones lost his mind? Yeah. You know, the guy improved.

Sure. He still got arrested. That we've heard a lot of crazy Jerry Jones things Hickey.

That may be the top craziness that we've ever heard from Jerry Jones. Hey, last year he murdered three people and now he only murdered one this year. He's getting better, right? Next year. You ready for this? He might not murder anyone. I mean, he cannot be serious.

What are we doing? I've never laughed harder than anything that you just said. Then that the only other thing where I laughed extremely hard over things that you said was when you cursed on the air, just because I thought that was just hilarious over something that was so irrelevant. Imagine Jerry Jones is your lawyer. Yeah. Hey, judge, listen. Hey, he killed the family of three. At least it wasn't a family of five. It could be worse, judge. All right.

He could be a serial killer. It's only three. All right. Just give him a break here. Holy cow. Judge, give me, he was speeding. I'm going to admit he was speeding and he broke the law and he got arrested. But Hey, look, look at it.

34 miles an hour less. He learned a lesson. He got a fight in public.

He only beat the crap out of two people. At least it wasn't 10. Geez, Louise. Here is Ryan Clark.

Ever in a sedition apology these days issuing an apology yesterday for basically calling to a tongue of I loa fat. So to the Miami dolphins, to head coach Mike McDaniel, who I have a ton of respect for most of all to tour tongue of my lower and his family. I deeply apologize.

I've reached out. I hope to talk to you soon, brother, but just know I wasn't questioning the way you work. I wasn't questioning how much it mattered to you. It was what I can consider now a bad joke, but for me it's been a lesson.

I'll be better. Do we have to apologize about everything? Like I don't even agree with what Ryan Clark said and we discussed this yesterday, but we take it to a level. We make something so super serious because of people's reaction to social media. We're now like, if you would've told me that Ryan Clark, like he sounded as if he, he just had like suffered a death in the family or something and now he has to talk about it.

He sounds miserable there. You made a joke. You said he looked like what a, an onyx bottle girl and you basically said that he was fat and he ate too much this off season. You shouldn't have said it, but it's not as if you have to issue this apology and make it seem as if something horrible just happened. We have gotten so soft Hickey. We really have.

That's ridiculous. I think it's right that you reach out and apologize over the phone and person maybe we can do, but we as the public do not need a, and that was 30 seconds, a two and a half minute video of you talk about, Oh, I'm so sorry. I'm a changed man. You made a joke.

It was bad info, bad joke, whatever you want to call it. We don't need the apology. Here's Ian Rappaport saying he doesn't see Jonathan Taylor and the Colts burying the hatchet anytime soon.

This courtesy of the rich Eisen show. You know, it's hard for me to imagine that he just comes back and everything's fine. Like, you know, I, I would be a little surprised, honestly. Um, I'd be a little surprised if he plays for them. I mean, look, anything's possible.

I just don't know how it would happen in a relationship. That's not good. Not good. Wow. Now there's a lot of insiders out there that claim to be insiders that have information on this Jonathan Taylor stuff that I kind of roll my eyes at, but that's Ian Rappaport legit.

Great. Either him or Adam Schefter pick your poison on who's the better NFL insider Hickey got to be getting a little worried here. Mr 0.0% chance that the Colts get rid of Jonathan Taylor.

The solution is very simple. You're not trading him. Double his pay from 4 million to 8 million JT. Let's go have 2023. Let's have a season. Let's get anything rich and developed. And we'll talk to you in March next year.

Let me tell you very easy. I only have one wish for this football season and I hope that this wish gets granted by Tuesday just because of how cocky you are, that Jonathan Taylor is going to be there and you may end up being right. Like I even said, I think there was 60% chance he's going to be there, but the 0% thing is like, what are those roll your eyes? Oh, that's so Hickey. I would love on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. If we get the Jonathan Taylor trade alert, I wouldn't ask for anything else the rest of the football season.
