BREAKING: Chargers extend Justin Herbert to a record-breaking contract extension l 1st & Goal: Ike Reese, former Eagles linebacker l Zach tries to eat a burger in 90 seconds to defend Jim Harbaugh

Alrighty, Zach Yelp shows CBS Sports Radio, our number two of our radio program. And we have breaking news depending on who your favorite NFL insider is.

I'm seeing it from Adam Schefter and Ian Rappaport. The Chargers and star quarterback Justin Herbert have agreed to terms on a blockbuster five-year extension worth $262.5 million. So a five-year deal, $262.5 million. Just for a little reference, you had Jalen Hurts signing a five-year deal for $255 million. That was $1.79.3 guaranteed. And then Lamar Jackson signed a five-year deal for $260 million. That was $185 guaranteed.

The total guarantees of that contract, both of the total guarantees are fully guaranteed depending how you want to decipher that. Jalen Hurts, $110. And then Lamar Jackson, $135.

When you go through the breakdowns of these numbers. So we have not seen what the guarantees are for Lamar Jackson, for Justin Herbert. But what we do know now is he got a five-year deal, just like Jalen Hurts, just like Lamar Jackson. Jalen Hurts got the $255 million. Lamar Jackson got $260. And now you've seen Justin Herbert just edge out Lamar Jackson, $262.5 million. I know some people are going to say, oh, Justin Herbert's overrated.

What Justin Herbert's done the first three years on the field is some pretty super-duper stuff. Now, can he get better? Can that team going out there and win some playoff games?

They should. If they stay healthy, they have all the talent. On the offensive side of the ball, you have an elite quarterback. You have, for now, a great running back in Austin Eckler. You got three wide receivers. If they stay healthy, Keenan Allen and Mike Williams are studs. I like what Quentin Johnston has done, you know, going back to TCU. And he's either the best or second best wide receiver in this draft class. I prefer Jackson Smith and Jigba, slightly over Quentin Johnston.

And then defensively, you got pieces on the defensive side of the ball. It's just, are they going to be able to stay on the field? Like J.C. Jackson hurt last year. Joey Bosa as well.

Derwin James as well. So this is a really talented football team. Now, Kansas City is in their way, and they're the team to beat in the NFL and also the AFC and the AFC West. But the Chargers are going to be enormous to determine how many championships the Kansas City Chiefs are going to get. And I'm not discrediting the Cincinnati Bengals because outside of the Kansas City Chiefs, Cincinnati directly, right, is their greatest competition because of what Cincinnati's been able to accomplish the last two years. Go to a Super Bowl where they defeated Kansas City. Last year, they lose to Kansas City in the AFC title game. But you've seen Cincinnati beat Kansas City three total times, twice in the regular season and once in the postseason.

Then you lose to them once in the postseason as well. So that's the biggest threat, you should say, with the way that it's performed on the field to this Kansas City potential dynasty. But the Chargers are going to be enormous and very important because they're directly up against them in their division where bare minimum you're playing them two times a year. And the Raiders, I can't trust their direction of their franchise. The Denver Broncos, yes, it's nice they bring in Sean Payton, but we don't know what Russell Wilson's going to be as a quarterback moving forward. So you look at the Chargers, they have now got into the playoffs what we've seen last year. But it's how much further and how much of a dent and inroad can they make with the Kansas City Chiefs?

And that's a major, major, major question and we're still going to have to see. But as I said, you take Jalen Hurts kind of out of that conversation because the Eagles just got to a Super Bowl, but there are Super Bowl expectations there. You look at Lamar, you look at Justin Herbert. Lamar has won a unanimous MVP under the last two years he's been hurt.

Justin Herbert has had three really good years in the NFL. When you pay those guys the money that they're making, people that doubt them are going to get even more vocal and they're going to get even louder if you don't start to see the playoff success from Justin Herbert, from Lamar Jackson as well. And I'll be fascinated how we're talking about the Chargers at the end of the year because you head into this football season, Kansas City is a story in the AFC, followed by Cincinnati and then whoever's that best team in the AFC East is probably your third best team in that division. And the Jaguars are going to be a force as well with what they were able to prove last year. When you look in the AFC South, it's okay, you're not expected to win the division, any of the AFC West teams because until Kansas City loses that division, they're going to be the pick each and every year. But now it's, can you be that fifth team in and can you be a wildcard team that ends up being one of those wildcard teams that go on a run and find a way to make it to a Super Bowl? And I hate to provide Justin Herbert an excuse hickey, but until Brandon Staley is no longer coaching that team, I do have to say pause on Los Angeles Chargers where they're a team I want to pick to do really well. I think there'll be a playoff team this year, I'll pick them to be a playoff team, but I can't envision them getting to a Super Bowl and winning a Super Bowl and hoisting a Lombardi Trophy because I just don't trust their head football coach in Brandon Staley where he hasn't been horrible, but he gambles way too much.

And there's one thing to use analytics, but there's another thing to just ignore your brain and your gut. And I think Brandon Staley too many times uses the way of stupidity rather than just doing the logical same thing. Now that he got paid, now that he's the highest paid quarterback in NFL history until I'm sure Joe Burrow is going to pass him and absolutely, I mean, maybe tomorrow, maybe in a week, who knows? But if you're Joe Burrow, this is the easiest contract negotiations ever. I know he hasn't got the deal done yet, but you've seen Jalen Hurts get paid this off season. Lamar Jackson get paid this off season. Justin Herbert get paid this off season. The only conversation is, sorry to interrupt you, but do you take them a Holmes road or do you just try to take as much as you can on a four or five year deal, right?

Basically do go five years, 10 years, four years, eight years, name your price. Exactly right. And the Bengals should, should do the right thing. I think they will. And given Burrow the contract he deserves, but go at least go back to like the Brandon sailor conversation. Now that you got paid, I'm sorry, no excuses. I don't want to hear about the head coach. I don't want to hear about injuries that have plagued this team in the past.

It's on you. Now you got paid to be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Part of the job fair night is overcoming deficiencies around you, whether it's at head coach, whether it's injuries, whether it's bad defense, bad offensive line play, you name it guys have to overcome it to Patrick Holmes's credit. They took away top three receiver in the league off his team.

You know what? I'm gonna go in a super bowl anyway. So yes, Brandon still, if they have a bad year, right? He's going to get, he's going to probably get fired. He's going to be the one, but you're not trading Justin Herbert, obviously. So it's not like Herbert now is the most to lose, but I don't want to hear from any personally excuses about head coach or whatever.

Now it's on you to get it done or not. And if they fail again and don't win a playoff game or don't make the playoffs, the first finger I'm pointing to most likely, depending on how it goes, but most likely is Justin Herbert. Do you have any idea when Patrick Mahomes is next scheduled to become a free agent? I have the number in front of me, but if you had to take a guess on the year, Patrick Mahomes is supposed to become a free agent. 2034. It's 2032. And according to Spot Rack, he would be 37 years old at that point.

And you know what? Would you be surprised if he gets a new deal before week one? Hell, I don't know if it'll be before week one, but I was about to say he'll eventually get a new deal. This Mahomes deal, which at the time it was, even though how great he is, 10 years, $450 million. You never know about the long-term security in the NFL and things like that with injuries.

There was a conversation about that. That's the best bargain right now in sports. Mahomes right now, you look at the, and I'm not saying these guys that just got paid don't deserve it, but Justin Herbert's making a little over $52 million a year. Lamar Jackson, $52 million a year. Jalen Hurts, $51 million a year. Aaron Rodgers, $50 million a year. Russell Wilson, 49. Kyler Murray, 46. Deshaun Watson, 46. And then you have Patrick Mahomes at $45 million a year.

What a bargain that is. And this is why I told you, it always makes sense to get paid as soon as possible. If you're the team, if you believe in that quarterback, pay your players as soon as possible. And even look at Josh Allen, that wasn't that long ago.

That was what, two years ago? That's not $43 million a year. That Mahomes deal right now, Hickey, is a bargain.

But you're right. He's eventually going to re-up. He has to. You talk about unfair and assuming, let's say, he doesn't get a new deal done by week number one. He, and assuming, let's say Joe Burrow does. Yeah.

He was going to be, Patrick Mahomes, the ninth highest paid quarterback in the league. Is that right? He's at eight right now.

Okay. Yeah, you're right. When you're going down that list. And assuming Burrow gets one before week one and is going to clearly jump him. He is going to be the best quarterback in the NFL, is taking the Tom Brady route and is going to be the ninth highest paid QB. It's truly remarkable.

That's crazy. And it shows why the Chiefs probably are going nowhere anytime soon. And also let's, when we talk about bargains, Travis Kelce as well, that's, that's a bargain right now. At least he's number two at his position.

But still a bargain. You're right. You're right. If he wanted to, he could get paid like a wide receiver and should probably get paid like a wide receiver. So Lamar hurts, obviously Herbert Rogers, Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray, Deshaun Watson, and then if Burrow gets taken care of, that's eight quarterbacks.

And you're right. Mahomes will be the ninth. And then Josh Allen will be 10th.

You want any guests on who's, if that happens 11, 12, and 13? Is Kirk Cousins in that mix? He is not. Wow.

This is the next question. Dak? Dak is two after Josh Allen. Josh Allen, another quarterback. Dak Prescott after Dak Prescott is Daniel Jones. You're missing one quarterback. So I'm missing someone between Dak Prescott.

To be fair, their AAV is all the same at $40 million. So they're all tied. This is the guy that you like a lot. Matthew Stafford. There you go.

Staff. Wow. Okay.

Wow. And I really hope that the Bengals are able to keep everybody happy. Because they've been the one team that has legitimately challenged Kansas City, where they have put a dent or tried to put a dent in the dynasty that is building here in Kansas City. Even Mahomes has admitted it.

He said it to Jonathan Jones, CBS Sports, and CBS Sports HQ. You got to get to win three Super Bowls to be considered a dynasty. And they only have two right now. But they've been to three. But you've seen a team like the Bengals beat them three times once in the playoffs and made Mahomes look human for really the first time in his career outside one or other two times in a first half going up against Bill Belichick. So you look at the Bengals, they have been the team that has been able to go toe for toe and even heading into last year's AFC Championship game, even though it backfired on them, have done so well where they're able to talk smack to this Kansas City team.

Where they won three in a row. And they're calling Arrowhead, Burrowhead, and all that stuff. And you have Jamar Chase saying, Pat who? When talking about Pat Mahomes. I really hope, and I don't know if you're going to be able to keep all three of them together, Burrow will be there forever in Cincinnati until he no longer wants to be there. You would think the same for Jamar Chase. T Higgins is a big one.

And maybe if you are Burrow, and you could do whatever you want. And I know it's easier said than done. Take less money or spread it out longer years and do what stuff like Brady has done. Take less from Mahomes.

Just spread out the deal longer and not restructure yet. For Joe Burrow, he's going to set the tone. And I can't fault him if he says five years, $270 million. I can't fault him if he does that. But if he wants to go win a Super Bowl, we know how important, because some guys say winning is important.

I don't know how much they actually believe it. There's other priorities that get in the way. Everyone wants to win, but other priorities get in the way. But Joe Burrow comes off to me as a guy that I'm not saying he doesn't want to get paid, but he prioritizes winning first. And I'll be curious how he does handle that when it comes to the contract negotiations to make sure that there's enough dough to ensure that your guy, Jamar Chase, who he's known since college, and then also T Higgins remain with the Bengals for the next few years when you have a lot of those guys in their prime going toe to toe up against the Kansas City Chiefs.

And if you're the Bengals, I think you would hope Burrow. It makes sense for both sides to do the Mahomes deal. We're talking about Mahomes being the ninth highest paid quarterback assuming Burrow gets a new contract. But he's still got almost $500 million over 10 years, just obviously spread out longer. But you're still almost doubling what quarterbacks are getting now. So if you're Burrow and you can get 10 for 500, sure, your AAV is not going to be great and you may not be top five in terms of what you're getting per year, but we're seeing Mahomes, it allows you to keep great players around you. And also, by the way, you're still getting tons of money over a very long period of time.

You're not going to be on the street begging for sandwiches anytime soon. And I don't know how much this factors into it, and maybe I'm looking too far into it, but Joe Burrow is the son of a coach and comes from a football family. I wonder what dad says and how much of a say dad has in just advising Joe Burrow on what he should do in terms of making sure you get the right financial decision to also make sure that you have the best position to set yourself up possible and go win a Super Bowl with the Cincinnati Bengals.

I mean, anytime we talk about Burrow, the comp is there and the talk is there, but he is very Brady alike. And you would think monetarily now that he has his first chance to kind of show it in that department. Oh, I feel bad almost saying expect, but you would think he would kind of take the route of more quote unquote team friendly.

I put that in air quotes. You're still getting paid out of the way compared to just become, you know, breaking records in a shorter amount of time. In all honesty, it would be tough to expect him to do that because most quarterbacks don't do it. And we say how many of them should do it. It's easy to say when it's not our money.

So until it happens, it's almost something you don't expect, but it is something that you could wonder and you could discuss. So you have a big deal for one Justin Herbert, who gets a five year, $262.5 million deal. Just this off season, Jalen Hurts, five years, $255 million, Lamar Jackson, five years, $260 million.

And now Justin Herbert, five years, $262.5. This is Zach Gelb show on CBS Sports Radio. We'll take a break. We'll preview the Eagles next with Ike Reese. You're listening to the Zach Gelb show. The NFL season is inching closer and closer.

Who are the contenders and who are the pretenders? We have four downs to figure out your team's future. It's time now for first and goal on the Zach Gelb show. We'll preview the Eagles right now, the reigning NFC champions with former Eagles linebacker and now superstar radio host for Sports Radio 94 WIP in the afternoons. And that of course is our pal, Ike Reese. Ike Juice, how you been? What's up, Zach?

How you doing, brother? Well, I'm doing fantastic and good on Howie Roseman this off season, because when you have a quarterback, you got to pay them as quick as possible. Because after that, Lamar Jackson got paid, the price goes up, and we just saw what Justin Herbert got at five years, $262.5 million. Yeah, that's the reason why Howie's the best GM in the business. When it comes to getting deals done like this, he's not going to be last to the party. He's going to be first to the party because he knows the price tag only goes up after the first quarterback sign. So they got Jalen done early, and sure, the quarterbacks that have signed after him have made a few million dollars more, but as far as the Eagles go, they got a an elite quarterback side early, and they got him done under a team friendly deal. I didn't think up until this week, with the season that he just had, there was national disrespect for Jalen Hurts. But then you see that pro football focus had six quarterbacks better than him, and they didn't even have him as a top 50 player in the NFL. That was just so absurd.

And I got to take a grain of salt with everything PFF does. But that was ridiculous, Ike. Yeah, I look at that two ways. I think it certainly was disrespectful for him not to be one of the 50 best players in the league coming off a MVP caliber season. He would have been the MVP had he not got injured in Chicago and missed a couple games there towards the end.

He would have probably been the MVP. So he certainly deserves to be in that top 50. And that's disrespectful. The whole quarterback ranking thing for me, I had him as the third best quarterback in the league, based off what he did last year and moving forward. But I could see where some of these teams, where they're going five, six or seven, or some of these GMs are going five, six or seven with him, I would have him as no worse than the third. But I don't necessarily take offense to him being ranked as the seventh best or sixth best quarterback, even though I think he's ranked higher.

I just don't think it's necessarily disrespectful. Yeah, I would have him number four. I would have Mahomes, Burrow, and it's close with him and Josh Allen.

Right. And if you want to tell me that you want to throw Rodgers in front of him, okay. But at worst, there's no way, in my opinion, that you could say he's not a top five quarterback with the year that he just had.

Yes, yes, Gary. Yeah, at worst, at worst, top five. That's at worst, he's a top five. And like I said, based on what he did last year, what he's projected to do this year, when the team is projected to be, the Eagles are one of the teams, I say the as in capital T-H-E, teams in the NFL. When you look at their roster, when you look at their coaching staff, when you look at the quarterback, what's not to like about the Eagles moving forward, and Jalen is the engine that drives all of that. So if he had been a top 10 pick or first round draft pick, this wouldn't even be a question. I think this is still a lot of stigma that comes with being a second round draft pick where scouts may have had some doubts about him, but I don't know how you have any doubts about him after what he did last year. The quarterback's phenomenal.

The line is great. Dallas Gotter continues to remain criminally underrated in the NFL. The wide receivers are sensational. The only question is, and it's a good problem to have, what is Brian Johnson going to be like as an offensive coordinator, but with all that talent, I'm not really concerned.

No, I'm not concerned at all. And the best thing about that is that relationship, the working relationship and the personal relationship between Brian Johnson and Jalen Hurts, I don't know if it could be any better between a quarterback and his offensive coordinator slash quarterback coach, even though I know that the title isn't quarterback coach anymore. He's the offensive coordinator, but he was the quarterback coach while Shane Steichen was here for the last two years. And he and Jalen have a relationship that goes well past their time as being employees of the Eagles. So I look at that and I say, sorry about that. I look at that and I say, I'm not really that concerned. I think Jalen and Brian are going to do great things this year together.

Let's get to the next down. Ike Reese here with us, former Eagles linebacker. That was a great job in sports radio 94 WIP. I know Eagles fans were happy to see Jonathan Cannon go, but in any weird way, are they going to miss him with how successful of a season the Eagles had in the defensive side of the ball, outside of the Superbowl? I'm going to preface this by saying I was not a Jonathan Gannon naysayer, right? I'm not going to sit here and tell you he was Jim Johnson or Buddy Ryan or any of those guys as a defense coordinator, but I think he gets a little bit of a bad rap as to what he was as a coordinator overall, despite how the season ended and how the defense played in that Superbowl.

I thought he did a decent job last year. That being said, he's from the school of Vic Fangio and so is Sean Desai. So I think the philosophy and what the Eagles want to do defensively won't change a ton, but I think allowing Sean Desai to come in and put his own little twist on what he wants to do as a defensive coordinator, how he wants his guys to play, more importantly, what type of identity he wants them to have as a defense, I think that's only going to be a good thing moving forward.

I think the overall philosophy may still remain the same. They don't want to be ultra aggressive, but I think Sean Desai will be given the freedom to at least put his own little tweaks on how he wants to approach the defensive mentality, and I think that's going to come along with some of the things we like our defense to have here in Philadelphia. I love the fact that he's also coached under Pete Carroll, who's a great defensive mind. So being out there in Seattle and having that, I think he brings a sort of a plethora of things to the defensive mindset on that side of the football. I'm excited to see what it's going to be because I really don't know exactly what they're going to look like on defense, but I'm excited to see what they can do.

They certainly have a lot of talent over there, some young talent mixed with some older guys, but I can't wait till the season starts so we can see what they are. Well, I'll tell you this, we all know as Son Redick is going to be a stud once again if he could stay healthy because that's three different teams in three straight seasons with double-digit sacks, and Ike Mann, I think he could make a run this year at Defensive Player of the Year. Yeah, and that's one of the things I want to see how Sean Desai uses him, how he uses him. Last year, Redick referred to himself as a weapon over there on defense.

You can use it, not Weapon X, we're not going to go grind Dawkins, we're not going to do that, but he referred to himself as a weapon just meaning you can use him in different ways throughout the defense, and I'm hoping to see much more of that and maybe expanding upon that and giving Redick a little bit more room to get out to that quarterback. I know that seems a little strange to say, but he did drop back in coverage at times last year. I'd like to see him get out to that quarterback a little bit more. He's one of the premier pass rushers in the league, and it's crazy to say he's underrated. He's an underrated pass rusher, premier pass rusher in his league. What about Jalen Carter? Your one expectations for him, or what for you?

They're high. They have to be high, and here's why they have to be high, because he doesn't get the benefit that Jordan Davis got last year where he could come in and you're playing behind Javon Hargrave, Fletcher Cox, Milton Williams, you're playing behind guys. Jalen Carter, I'd be surprised if he's not a starter out there day one, and Fletcher, obviously, being the great player that he is, he's going to be out there, and I think Jordan Davis, they're going to have to find a way to rotate those three guys in there, but Jalen Carter, man, there's never been a question about his ability from a talent standpoint. He could have easily been rated the best player in the draft with the highest ceiling, so we know he comes with a little bit of baggage and some things he needs to mature from and grow from that he did while he was in college, but when you're talking about talent, there's no question about the talent. If those other question marks weren't there just about decision-making, also field, there could have been an easy case that he could have been the top three traffic in this draft, and he was made out of had the chance to get Jalen Carter.

That's how good he is as a player. Let's get to the next down. Ike Reese here with us. Going back to the offense, Ike, the running back position, I know by committee is the way that it works in the NFL now. Rashad Penny has dealt with his injuries, DeAndre Swift as well. I thought Miles Sanders had one really good year.

For the most part, I thought he was overrated for the way that people perceived him coming out of Penn State. Is there at all any concern with the running back room or behind this offensive line they'll be able to find someone to run the football? Yeah, if they stay healthy, they'll run the football well. That's just how good the offensive line has been.

Jeff Stoutland is still the dean of Stoutland University, so I don't see why that would change. Those guys are just going to get better with more experience. They obviously have to show up the right guard position. We'll see coming out of training camp who's starting there at right guard in between Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson, but as far as the running backs go, if those guys stay healthy, the production will be there. Now, I'm a DeAndre Swift fan. I was excited when the Eagles traded for him. I love that move, but here he's going to get a chance to prove he can be a bell cow back. He didn't get that opportunity in Detroit. He had to split reps.

It'll be interesting to see how they're using it. We know what Penny has shown when he's been healthy, but there's a lot that there's a lot that has to go into a running back that has had those types of injuries throughout his career in order if you're looking for him to stay healthy throughout 17 games. I love Kenny Gainwell and Boston Scott where they are. We'll see what Trey Sermons brings to the table as a young player that's still trying to find his way in this league, but DeAndre Swift to me is the key because he's a guy who has the ability on third down to be effective, also catching the ball out of the backfield. It's been a while since we had a back that can run and catch the ball out of the backfield and so I think DeAndre Swift has that ability and I think he's looking for the opportunity to prove that he's that caliber player.

He's the guy that I'm definitely excited about and Rashad Penny is one of those signings where there's low risk and high reward there for him. I'll just throw this out there. I don't know if it makes sense right now, but the longer Dalvin Cook is out there on the market, if he gets at a significant discount, I wouldn't put anything past Howie. Wow.

No, you're absolutely right. That's the type of move that nobody sees coming. That Howie makes. That Howie makes. I wouldn't put it past him. Man, I've been a Dalvin Cook guy since he came out of Florida State in that great draft back in 2017 I believe it was when all those running backs came out. So he's one of the guys I've always liked.

I'd be surprised if he was here, but then I guess I shouldn't be surprised if it's Howie Roseman that makes that move. And let's get to the final down. Alrighty. Are the 49ers the only team in the NFC that actually intimidates you a little bit? Wow. Intimidating. You know, guys, listen, that word doesn't even resonate with me right there. When you say, well, we're talking about the Eagles, we're talking about football.

So I'm acting like I didn't hear the word intimidate. Fine. The only legitimate competition in the NFC. Is that better for you like juice? Yeah, that's better for me right there.

That's better for me because at least I feel okay giving you the answer. So especially with the team that I'm thinking of. So I honestly think that the Dallas Cowboys have a legitimate chance of being the second best team in the NFC. My early prediction is Eagles, Cowboys, South Philadelphia NFC championship game. That's because I look at the Cowboys and I say the quarterback position is solidified for them. They are sort of flying under the radar.

There's some pressure on them. I could see them sort of winning 11 or 12 games. We'll see if that's enough to win the NFC East. But like if I'm looking at everybody else's quarterback position in the NFC, I can't necessarily put anybody ahead of obviously the Eagles are number one, but like Dak is probably the second best quarterback in the NFC.

I mean, you could go to Eric golf. You could go Chino Smith or cousins. Yeah, Kirk cousins like but you hold your nose in all those guys. Let's be right. Exactly, exactly. So you know, I don't want to sound like I'm damn rooting for the Cowboys or anything that day.

What are you doing? Yeah, exactly. I just think if I'm not picking the 49ers to be that team, they face an NFC championship game. I would think the team they most likely would face. If the playoff matchup set up right, it would be the Dallas Cowboys. I think the Cowboys have a chance to be the one team that could challenge the Eagles. And it's primarily because they play them twice a year. They're used to seeing the Eagles. Do you think there's a chance that the Cowboys could win the division this year?

Only because of that crazy 20 plus year thing where nobody's won the vision two years in a row. And I don't see the other two teams. I don't see the Giants or Washington winning the NFC. So it's definitely going to be the Eagles or the Cowboys. Well, if we do get an Eagles Cowboys NFC championship game, I would love to see Deebo Samuel have a crucial drop against the Eagles or the Cowboys. That would love that. That'd be fun. Just like how he dropped my phone call.

I hope he turns into like quest walk into the Superbowl dropping passes. Oh yeah, I saw that. I heard about that. What about what's going on there?

I just asked him a few questions about the Eagles. He's running his mouth. It's funny.

You don't want to talk about it anymore. I think it's funny that works. Yeah. Yeah.

I mean, the 49ers certainly have, they've done their fair share of complaining about what happened in the NFC championship game. It's awesome. He's like Greece. I always appreciate the time. Thank you. Oh, thank you Zach for having me. Go bird. You got it. There we go. I Greece had to say that at the end with all that cowboy love that he was given, I know I Greece very well. I remember when I was an intern at 94 WIP and he was right around the office.

I'm one of those razor scooters. I've never heard him say anything remotely positive about the Dallas Cowboys, but the NFC outside of the Eagles and the 49ers, I don't like a lot to love. So if you don't want to just go chalk the entire way, he's not going to pick against Eagles nor should he. And you want to say, okay, Brock party doesn't live up to the hype. Maybe you do look at the Dallas Cowboys there. I've said it's it's Seattle.

That's who I think is the third best team in the NFC. But would it shock anyone if Geno Smith progresses? Probably not. Zach Yelp show CBS sports radio. When we come on back, the NCAA is all annoyed that John Harbaugh, Jim Harbaugh was eating hamburgers with recruits and paying for those hamburgers. Hickey has challenged me to eat an eight ounce hamburger in 90 seconds.

I have no clue if this will be successful or not, but I'm going to attempt it next. You're listening to the Zach Gelb show. I am wearing my number 33 Michigan Leroy Hoard Jersey in support of the Michigan football program. Cause it's an absolute joke that the NCAA wants to suspend the great Jim Harbaugh for four games for a bunch of minor infractions. And they're annoyed that he lied to the NCAA. And one of the alleged infractions was that Jim Harbaugh got some burgers and brought some burgers for a few recruits a few years ago. So we were talking about hamburgers.

I usually don't eat during the show. I wait until after and do my protein smoothie shake and Hickey kept on mentioning burgers. And we got into this conversation of me ordering a burger for dinner and Hickey challenged me to eat an eight ounce burger that I have secured and have right in my hands right now in 90 seconds. Now I have no clue if I'm going to be able to eat this burger in 90 seconds, but I will try my best with the hope that the NCAA will see this and realize how stupid it is that Jim Harbaugh can't buy some burgers for some kids.

And they'll come to their senses and they will change this supposed stupid decision that they're about to agree to. So Hickey, do you have the timer in your hand? Yes, sir. Timer secured and ready to fire. Now you're wearing a splint because you injured your finger over the weekend. So is your finger okay to hit the start button on the time? Of course, I'm sucking through the pain and I'm gonna push through for the show and make sure the timer is correct.

Now, for the audience. Yes. I'm looking at the burger.

Interesting setup. It is an English muffin bun, not your traditional hamburger bun. That's what they do at this place.

That's right. So a little thinner, a little less bread. Any cheese? There is no cheese and I think that was a mistake because this looks like a dry patty.

Oh boy. And you got it to go, which usually is not as fresh as when you're sitting in the restaurant. So even some of the little burger grease and juice that's usually in there when it's fresh, they evaporated or dried up. I don't want to make any excuses, but I think this is going to be tough to chew. And I know it's not as fluffy on the bun, but I actually think this may be tougher with this toasted English muffin that they have put on the burger. So no toppings, there's no ketchup, there's no lettuce, tomato, onion, anything you'd find in a burger.

It is truly just an eight ounce patty and two English muffins serving as the bun. The time is 90 seconds. Can we get a prediction?

Will you beat it? Do you have a time in mind that you're going to shoot for here? I think I'm going to get this done in 88 seconds. 88 seconds. So right up to the buzzer.

Minute 28 for those counting at home. Now let me just ask you this. I have water in front of me. Yes.

I thought this was more for safety in case if I start choking. Am I allowed to drink the water at all during the 90 seconds? I'll let you make the ruling on this one.

I will say yes, because in the hot dog eating contest, which is sort of what we're mimicking here, water consumption is allowed. Okay, so you're ready? You want to give me like a three, two, one? Is it just three, two, one? Or are you going to give me a three, two, one go? I will say three, two, one, go. On the go, I'll hit the starter or hit the button.

Or hit the button. Just make sure that you're updating me on the time throughout. Of course, of course. Okay, so my hand is on the trigger. Bun and burgers in your hand. Three, two, one, go. Timer started.

Zach dives right in. There we go. It's a dry burger. This is the risk when you do takeout, folks.

This is why for the most part, if you're going to order food, burger is one of the worst foods to order in part because it is dry. And right now, Zach has gotten one bite in. 17 seconds and counting on the counter so far. He has now gone to two sips of water already. So that water cup was there more for emergency if he couldn't, at the end, breathe or scarf it down.

He's already gone not once, but twice to the water cup. We had 35 seconds, so just about a little over a third of the way there. I would argue right now, folks at home, about 70% of the burger is already gone.

Again, eight ounces in question, but that's what they're saying on the menu. We look to be just about one bite left. We are at 55 seconds on the timer. Now the final bite is in the mouth. One minute on the timer, 30 seconds. Gotta get it down.

This is the rules. You gotta swallow. Water's being consumed, still chewing. Minute 10, opens the mouth, clear. Time, one minute, 11 seconds. I would not have done that without the water.

One minute, 11 seconds. That burger was so dry. It's actually embarrassing that they sell that burger.

But let's not bury the lead here, folks. That is justice for Jim. Free Harbaugh, enough of this nonsense from the NCAA. If Jim Harbaugh wants to buy some recruits some burgers, he should be able to do so. So Jim's not allowed to eat burgers with recruits. I'll eat a burger for Jim, and I'll pay for all the Michigan recruits moving forward, or maybe not, if they want to eat hamburgers.

I'll use hickey salary to do that. But this is so ridiculous what the NCAA is doing right now. They want to suspend, even though it's up against four cupcake teams, poor Jim Harbaugh, four bleeping games, because he had some minor infractions. It's more so about the lying.

That is ridiculous. Now in the euphoria of all this, hickey, what was the final time? I missed that when you were saying.

One minute, 11 seconds on the official counter. Now you said you would have not have gotten the burger down if it wasn't for the water. And I think I'll get crushed for that on social media so weak that you have to use the water. But like you said, in the hot dog eating contest, you see Joey Chestnut always dunking that hot dog in the water. That's disgusting.

They shouldn't do that. You just ate the burger and then drank the water afterwards. That is a normal move to dip at what I would have probably gotten sick. You know what? I may do something that DA does not like here.

What is that? Something that you've done. You're going to burp? Yeah, I don't know how I'm going to hold this one off.

Maybe I can tell you the dump button here, right? I don't want to annoy anyone. Or just turn your mic off. That's easy enough.

I mean, I've done that multiple times. I think the Belch went down. I think I'm good, but I felt a Belch brewing. Now they do have some pickles here, which I appreciate those pickles real quickly. The pickles better than burger. Probably should have put the pickles on the burger. Could add a little extra juice there.

Yeah. Ooh, they're sour. Very good pickles. But I'll tell you, the English muffin was very tasty, but that patty was so dry. I was shocked how dry the patty was. I probably should have put cheese on it. And I don't think I would have needed the water if I put cheese on it.

The only thing I guess I'll say is I'm not sure how much is that on the restaurant versus how much is just the, you order it to go. I don't know exactly what time it was ready. Like you got it. You got, as soon as you went to commercial break. So it's not like it's been sitting in the studio for an hour. And I called it about a minute before we got like Reese on the phone. So maybe 15 minutes for, I don't know, five minutes before he got down, they come up here. So like arguably probably 15.

I mean, I will say 15 minutes is a good amount of time though for it to be sitting before you consume it. Not just happy. I completed this. Now I will thank you. Thank you. I thought 90 seconds was going to be tough to beat. I clearly way, way past blew your expectations there. One minute, 11 seconds.

You blew past your own. You said 88 seconds. Yeah. I didn't think I was going to do it.

You thought you were barely going to get under the gun. Yeah. So it is the Zach Gilb show on CBS sports radio. Can you do two more hours of radio?

Oh, absolutely. I know I have to belch eventually, but every time I feel as if I'm going to burp, it just isn't happening. So don't be surprised if at like 8 15 PM Eastern, all right, we're going to take a break here on CBS sports radio and you just share one of these, something like that, which wouldn't be the first time someone associated with this show did burp on CBS sports radio. It was not me. It was Hickey. And then you got harassed for that for like what, two weeks, probably people were killing you water burp different, but yeah, I'll give it a take. I thought I pressed the, the cough button there. I apologize. Zach Gilb shows CBS sports radio. It's radio where we eat burgers for Jim horrible.
