This is the Truth Network. Welcome to Truth Talk Live.
Alright, let's talk. A daily program powered by the Truth Network. This is kind of a great thing and I'll tell you why. Where pop culture, current events, and theology all come together. Speak your mind.
And now, here's today's Truth Talk Live host. Does sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ, does it have to be boring? I mean, I know sometimes we go out there and we just feel like, oh man, I've got to do this. I've got to do it. I've got to do it.
But my kids were watching a group online called JSTU. And we found out that there was one of the guys named Hyper Fenton who actually left the group. He went back to be an associate pastor at the church where he grew up with his dad, and he says that sharing the gospel can actually be fun.
So Hyper Fenton, I want to welcome you to the show today. Absolutely. Thanks for having me. Absolutely, man.
So you grew up a pastor's kid, is that right? Yes, sir. Guilty as charged. What was it like?
Well, you know, it's funny with that question. And a lot of people, I think pastors' kids sometimes get a bad rap, understandably so.
Sometimes when you're doing ministry, it can be hard to do family. But my dad is the real deal.
So I never felt like I was second to the church. And I think the church would say they never felt they were second to the family.
So I don't know how he did it. I think it was just honoring Christ all the way.
So it was great. I love the experience. That's awesome, man. And so when did you know that you were going to get into the ministry?
Well, it probably wasn't all the times I was in in-school suspension leading up to it. Honestly, I really never set out like, I'm going to do ministry or not. I knew the Lord at an early age. At six years old, I gave my life to Christ. But since then, I really felt like, well, I wanted to do this or that and do it for the Lord.
But it wasn't until recently, maybe when I just graduated SMU with the BFA in acting, I was going to go to LA. And I really, during that time, I was seeking the Lord with my now wife, Kelly. We weren't married at the time when we were praying together and seeking the Lord about our next steps. And I really felt this clear call that God was saying, hey, what if the whole reason I led you to fall in love with acting and all your giftings was just so I could get you to put it on the table to say yes to me again? I know it doesn't make sense to anybody else, but that was probably when I knew.
I think it might not just be acting that I'm up to, it might be ministry. You know what? Maybe God knows what he's doing, right? Yeah. Oh, I bet he does.
Well, you know, it's funny. We're talking about sharing the gospel, And I heard it said before that, you know, Jesus healed a man when he was around on earth and he told everybody, he said, he told that man, don't tell anybody what I did for you. And the man told everybody, but then Jesus told us to go throughout the whole world and share the gospel. And we don't want to tell anybody. As a matter of fact, we have a privilege in the United States, even to be able to do this.
I've studied a lot of Christian persecution, Seth, and in the 10 most persecuted countries in the world, North Korea, this is what they do. The state bans independent religion. Possessing a Bible or worshiping in secret can lead to execution or brutal labor camps. Number two, Somalia. Dominated by Islamic extremism and al-Shabaab, Christian converts face immediate danger from militants and local communities.
Number three, Yemen. Plagued by civil war and severe Islamic oppression, believers must practice an extreme secrecy. And it goes on and on and on. And Christians are being killed all the time in Nigeria. I'm sure you've heard it all over.
all over, but one of the things that the Chinese Christians have prayed for the Americans for, they had prayed that we have actually had some persecution, so maybe it would actually wake us up. But Seth, you're not waiting for any persecution. You're sharing Jesus now, is that right?
Well, that's my plan and my attempt is to share Christ. I think for a lot of us, We share the gospel, and the first thing that comes into our mind is this idea of cold calling, right? You know, you're getting the phone book out, and, hey, would you have time to X, Y, Z? And, you know, it's a sales pitch. But the problem with that mindset is it strips maybe the most beautiful part of the gospel out of it, which is relationship.
I've heard it said the gospel moves through relationship.
So a lot of times it's not that Christians don't know the gospel. They just don't know how to make a friend to save their life.
So at the end of the day, when it comes time to talk about something important, they realize, well, they don't have an authentic relationship with Jesus.
So it seems fake for them to encounter or get someone else to encounter the same. But, yes, I think that's probably the first step is you've got to have conviction. You've got to sling it, sling that gospel. But you probably ask yourself, well, how do I do that in an effective way that isn't compromising to what Jesus taught us? Yeah, I mean, I actually saw you buy a couple of kids.
There was a video that you did, and I saw you buy them Chick-fil-A. And one of the kids, you were asking him, you said, OK, you made a decision. You know, where are you right now with the Lord? And, you know, he was willing to talk to you. You know, he was he was open and he was having a conversation.
And I think sometimes we think nobody's going to want to hear this thing, but I think everybody thinks about what's going to happen to them after they die. Yeah, I think so. I think the big part of that, though, is like, you know, that friend.
So my friend that I met, you know, his name was Noah that we got Chick-fil-A with. But I didn't know Noah, but I knew I knew Elijah who who said, hey, I got this friend. And Elijah could tell off the bat that Noah had some blanks that needed to be filled in.
So I bet I would never meet Noah outside that context. But because I had been fortunate enough to be evangelistic to Elijah, well, then he was evangelistic to Noah. And then I got to kind of clarify and frame for him where he's at with Christ. But yeah, I think a lot of most people, they want clarity and compassion and everything that Jesus has. But in order to give them that, you have to be trustworthy.
And that's the hard step, usually. Yeah, I heard it said one time that you can't sell a dream if you're living a nightmare. Yeah. Yeah. And so when I see you and I see you in your videos and my kids watch you, you know, it's funny.
If it wasn't for you actually being in Jay Stew, we may have never been able to actually see you sharing the gospel because that kind of caught people's attention. And with Jay Stew, I think alone, not only Jay Stew, but what else other things that you've done, you've got over 646 million views on your channels. Is that right? uh well with yeah i haven't counted lately but yes i i believe i definitely on the j stew side they've got crazy numbers um so but yeah i mean it it's at the end of the day i've tried whether it's music or because i do i do i do a lot of music and then i do a lot of you know funny videos on my channel on hyper fenton and then i did j stew stuff and and i did acting i don't care what it is, and I really don't care how good it gets. I just want it to open the door.
Because at the end of the day, the sad truth is there's a lot of students that would trust a YouTuber before they trust a pastor. And that breaks my heart. But I can't tell you how many people, when I start talking on TikTok or whatever it is, and I just kind of peek open the door that, hey, if you ever want to talk about something or this or that, that they'll start asking me questions. Hey, is it okay if I'm this? Or what do you think about Mormonism?
Or what do you think about Buddhism? Or what do you, you know? And, and instead of just hashing it out there, I usually just message them, you know, and I'll get way more than if I were to say, here's a Christian video, you know what I mean?
So it's interesting, but that's kind of the culture we're in. Yeah. I mean, and we talked about this before, but you, you can have joy when you're sharing the gospel. It's okay. And I believe the Bible backs that up.
Nehemiah 8, 10, It says, and do not be grieved for the joy of the Lord is your strength. Psalm 16, 11, you make known to me the path of life in your presence. There is fullness of joy at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 37, 4, it says to delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. And I don't know what you do.
And we're going to get back in just a second. But I want to hear what you do when you wake up first thing in the morning, because I believe that it changes the atmosphere. I've got Hyper Fenton. He was with Jay Stu. We're talking about sharing the gospel.
We will be right back after this break. All right, guys, we are back with Hyper Fenton. And if you want to check him out, it's hyperfenton.com, H-Y-P-E-R-F-E-N-T-O-N. But before the break, I was talking about, you know, I know you have such a great attitude, Seth, but when I wake up in the morning, I've noticed a difference since I've been doing this. I wake up and I just start thanking God.
I say, thank you, God, for another day. Thank you for the breath in my lungs. Thank you for the roof over my head. And then I spend time in the word of God and I spend time in prayer. And so Mark 135, it says that very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place where he prayed.
Psalm 5 verse 3, it says in the morning, Lord, you hear my voice in the morning. I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly. Isaiah 50 verse 4 It says he wakens me morning by morning Wakens my ear to listen Like one being instructed And man I gotta listen to the Lord as well But how do you start your day Seth Well if I honest the only way to start the day is to dig into God's word and to spend time with him. I think, yeah, I've learned that from an early age. My dad, I think, has read through the entire Bible.
I think this is his 111th reading. I forgot. You're making me feel bad, man. Yeah. Yeah.
So, you know, I mean, that's what I mean. And so it just, when I, I really feel like I've had the greatest example of Christ from my mom and dad, that they're just in the word all the time.
So it's kind of hard to not let it come out.
So I never was like, oh man, I just, I hate that they're working at the church.
So it's like, man, they're the real deal.
So like you were talking about joy earlier, and I was thinking of Psalm 51, 12, restore to me the joy of your salvation. And, you know, when David's talking about restore, there's a joy that comes from salvation. And I think that should be expressed for sure daily, but especially when you're sharing the gospel. It's like, man, if you're not fired up about this, I don't know what else you can get fired up about. Um, but you know, that comes from a relational daily time with God.
I mean, if that's legit for you and you're created to commune with God, well, that joy will start growing as you spend more and more time with him. Um, so that then makes it just easier to share the gospel because that's just a part of your life every day. You know, it is because there are so many things, especially, And I love, you know, that you have a YouTube channel and I love that you're, you know, you've done acting and you've got a lot of things to keep you busy. But I'm sure that if you don't spend time in the secret place or the quiet time with God, I don't know about you, but I start to feel like I'm missing something.
Well, not only do I feel like I'm missing, I'm certainly missing something. I mean, I don't know, especially in America. I mean, you can certainly make the argument and prove it that God speaks through dreams and amazing movements of His Spirit. But in America, give me the Word of God and give me someone who's in the Word of God every day, and I like their odds to be in touch with the Holy Spirit. it.
The problem with so many of us is we will make time for literally anything, but we couldn't take, I mean, it doesn't take much, 15 minutes out of the day, maybe to read a one-year Bible. And that's what I'm using. I'm using the one-year Bible. And then recently I feel like God's been like, yeah, why don't you level up and do a little more? I feel like part of it is, this is the way I was trying to work on a song recently, and I don't know if I've got the idea yet, but it's this phrase of if I'm not present with you, there's no use of planning the future.
If I'm not present with my God, there's no use of doing anything. Like if I can't get this right today with God, why am I trying to figure out, well, tomorrow, or I got a job, or I gotta, I gotta wake up early. It's like, man, if I wish my students would get that, you know, it's like, yeah, you could be the best athlete on the team, but you can be great for God right now. You know, like, so anyway, it all starts with the word of God. But yeah.
Yeah, it all starts with the word of God. And then I don't know about you, but I heard a lady years ago. She was in her 80s. She's probably gone now. But I was I was finishing up talking to her and she said, Mike, she said, I want to tell you something that when praises go up, she said that blessings come down.
And I've noticed if I ever start to feel down or whatever, it is almost impossible for me to be depressed down, angry, and sad when I'm singing out worship music and I'm worshiping the Lord of the whole universe. And, and that's what you do. You, you, you love to make music. Is that right? And for the Lord.
Yeah, I love, I love making music. Um, I mean, really, I, again, it's all like different tools. I try to use any tool I can. If it, if it gets opportunity to sling the gospel, let's do it. Let's try it.
They're not always great. And sometimes they are sometimes, you know, and so especially in this culture, it's like, you got to feel like you have to drop a song every week. But to me, anything that gets me an opportunity, like I go to school lunches, right? Like, I don't know if you could say I'm passionate about going to high school lunches, but I kind of am because it gets me an opportunity to be a representative of Christ, You got to do that in a certain way in school districts. But anything that gets me an opportunity to represent Jesus, that's the goal.
But yeah, music I think is a big part of it. And especially when you're talking about praising and lifting up praise, I think part of it is fulfilling your purpose. I have a lot of friends in the industry music-wise, Christian-wise. And unfortunately, I think we've gotten this mistake that our gifting is our purpose. And I'm like, man, I don't think that couldn't be farther from the truth.
Your purpose is to be a disciple, is to be a follower of Jesus.
Now, it's like saying, I'm good at using this hammer, so that's all I'm supposed to do.
Well, I mean, maybe you're supposed to build a house. Like the hammer is cool, like, you know, but but the house you're building is the house of the Lord.
So like use your nail gun, use your hammer, but you're not called to be just a hammer guy, you know.
So I view it that way. Like, you know, there's a lot of discussion about A.I. or music or A.I. and art or sometimes YouTube or or do you do you do this or that? You know, with all these new questions or are you called to just be an artist?
and I really feel like if you get down to it, it's all just different tools. Can you use it for the glory of God and share the gospel?
So that's kind of my heart on it. That's absolutely right. And so you went to acting school, you went to SMU, you were going to go out to LA, but how did you catch your break? I mean, what was it for you?
Well, honestly, like, J-Stew was just out of the abyss, really, just randomness. Not the bad abyss, the good abyss. Yeah, yeah. But it was, so how it happened was I was, you know, I graduated SMU, BFA in acting, and all my friends were like, all right, we're going to L.A. I mean, I believed in Jesus, and I followed Christ.
I was still reading the one-year Bible then. certainly had a lot of growing to do, but I felt like, man, how cool would it be to leverage, you know, I'm, you know, I was pretty confident back then. I'm like, I'm going to be the best actor and win the Oscar and yada, yada. And then, you know, represent Christ while I do it. And then honestly, the biggest break wasn't anything that I teed up.
It was like, I just, When God was talking to me and Kelly in the car, and we were literally listening to worship music and praying about, well, hey, if I'm going to go to L.A. And, you know, we've been dating for a while, but, like, you're not going to L.A. You've got to finish school. You know what I mean?
So it was kind of like one of those, what do we do? It felt so clear that God was like, what if the whole reason I captivated your heart with this creativity was just so you could trust me with it and go to seminary? And I'm like, I know that makes no sense to anyone else. But to me, I'm like, man, would I risk it all for the adventure of Christ? You know, because it's not like, you know, and so I was, I put my yes on the table.
Now, I clarified it and said, hey, you said I just needed to apply to seminary. I did, but I got in and I've been doing classes and, you know, been working on my, what is it called, Masters of Theological Studies. and then from there I started working at a local church and kids ministry, just doing something. And Hyper Fenton, we will be right back after this break. I want to hear more.
My kids are listening, so yeah, we'll be right back with Hyper Fenton. Hey guys, we are back with Hyper Fenton, who was formerly with JSTU, and I'm looking, they have 8 million subscribers on there and millions and millions of views, But at one point, Hyper, you decided you wanted to leave it all. And was it go back to the ministry? Is that right? Yeah, I was a kid's pastor before.
I just ended up doing a lot of music before then. And Justin from JSTU, he's one of the two guys, reached out and was like, hey, you want to do a song about snacks? I was like, sure.
So we did that a couple times. We made a couple songs. They got millions of views. And then he hit me up during COVID, I think. And he said, hey, this isn't a joke, which I love he had to preface, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's not a joke. Would you like to come be a full-time member like out here in Colorado Springs? And I'm like, wait, YouTube makes money? Like, how does that work?
You know, so I was like, you know, and we prayed about it. And Kelly and I, with our dog at the time, just moved up there and started doing that.
So it was pretty crazy. And then we were there for about a year and a half-ish, or maybe more. I made tons of videos every day. And then I really felt like with this opportunity at the same church, my home church, Meadows Baptist Church in Plano, Texas, where my dad's the senior pastor still is, there was an opening for this student pastor position that just kept on, you know, transitioning out, like somebody had to go do something or, and we're right across the street from Plano Week Senior High School. They have like 3,000 11th and 12th graders, which is crazy.
And I thought, man, if I don't champion this, who will?
So I thought, why don't I bring the YouTube, the craziness, the creativity, and be a part of the local church where I grew up? Like, why not?
So that's what I did. And it seems to be working out well. I saw one of your videos where you were doing like a hide and seek and you were going to give people like five bucks. And I think you ended up hiding in a cop car. Is that right?
Yeah. Yeah. So yeah what I started I really started to do my kind of my ultimate goal when I first came here a couple of years ago was I wanted to bring that J vibe to a church but like also help the church with it And I like here Hyperfenton only So I collab on those videos with Hyperfenton and Meadows Baptist Church And yeah, we hit in a cop car during Murphy Mays days, which is their little fair thing in Murphy.
So it was great. Yeah. And there was another video where I saw you were in front of the students, and I think you had talked about getting them some food or whatever, but you were also talking about their relationship with Jesus Christ, because I think there's some people out there who want to share the gospel, but they don't know how to start.
Now, the way that you do it and the way that I do it may be different. I go outside of Walmart in the parking lot and just walk up to people and start praying with them. You may do that, you may not, but you build a relationship, I'm assuming, because you meet people at this church, or how do you do it?
Well, a lot of it is, I mean, you can get really creative with it, you'd be surprised how many times you could just meet somebody. And if you, I mean, you do it enough, right? I mean, probably you're making relationships at Walmart, I'd imagine. Not like they're your best friends, but there's a way to sling the gospel that isn't like, hey, let me stop you and sell you Spectrum Internet. You know, it's like, you know, so it's probably, you can do it quickly.
Like my dad's great at this. You know, he's done it at Subway a million times while he's getting a sandwich, you know, but it's the authenticity that people appreciate that, that it's not, okay. Yeah. What's the cat?
Okay. Yeah. He's not being nice. He's being manipulative, you know, like, so really, uh, I think the best way to share the gospel first off is just to try to do it. There you go.
No, pray and just sling it. But I don't think, I don't think we've even scratched the surface of the creative things Jesus would probably do, you know, of just like, man, how would I, how could I get this person to hear about Jesus? You know? Yeah, absolutely. And, and, and, and several different people I'm sure do it many different ways, but for me, what I've seen is that it all starts with prayer.
So yeah, I mean, I've, I've, I have some other people who come with me on Saturday mornings when we go to Walmart or whatever it is, but you know, unless the Lord builds the house, the laborers labor in vain. And so we pray before we start, I'll hand them a track or I'll hand them a Bible or whatever. And I'll say, Hey, um, you know, here, here, here's a track. And I'll just say, Jesus loves you. And you know, they're kind of, you know, you never know what they're going to do, or I may, you never know.
It doesn't have to be the same thing. But what I've seen is that a lot of people are impressed by the fact that you're willing to go up to them and share Jesus with them. And there was one lady I met in the Walmart parking lot. And she told me this. She said, you know what?
She said, you're doing what the Lord told me to do. And she said, I've got these tracks in here. The Lord told me to hand them out. And she goes, here you go. Here's the tracks.
And I said, no, I said, the Lord didn't tell me to hand out these tracks. He told you to go hand out those tracks and now do it. And so it's like the Lord creates opportunities, but we just have to be willing. And when you talk about being creative, do you spend time in prayer or just brainstorming or how does it usually come to you?
Well, it's all through the Holy Spirit. I mean, you've got to pray. You've got to be in the word. I mean, almost everything that I'm doing requires the prerequisite, like no brainer of like, you've got to read your Bible every day. And when you read your Bible, you've got to be praying as well and then obeying.
So if you're not doing that, you know, you could probably do some cool stuff. But the bummer would be that you wouldn't be listening to the Holy Spirit. You'd just be guessing on your own.
So I think that's the way you start. You've got to come in with the Holy Spirit. And then I think it helps to have some certain rhythms, right? Like, you know, I'm ADHD and impulsive naturally.
So I just kind of use that to my advantage. Like, hey, I start my day and say, Lord, I've got this scheduled, but I don't have to do any of that.
So whatever you want me to do, Lord, I pray that you'd reveal it in your word. If there's anything, you know, in my daily reading that you're like, you know what, this person's on my heart. or as I'm going to the gas station or whatever, a good first step is to give me eyes, Lord, for people that you have eyes for. Like, is there someone that, man, they are lost if no one intercedes on their behalf? You know, and so you can just start asking yourself when you see people, what's their spiritual status?
Yeah, that's right. And in the book of Isaiah, the Lord says, who shall I send? And Isaiah said, here I am, Lord, send me. And what I hear you saying is that you're willing. And then you're praying and you're in the word of God.
And it's like, when you do it, it doesn't have to be boring. It doesn't have to stink.
Now, there are times, and there have been times where people have not been so nice to me. There have been times when people have been rude or whatever it is, didn't want to hear. And that's fine. But I move on to the next person because I know that God, God's word does not come back void. And when we're willing and when we have a positive attitude, obviously, like you do, like you said, the Holy Spirit will guide us and then stuff will just happen.
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I, I obviously get a lot of this from my family. I mean, um, you know, a lot of my family's done mission work and this and that, um, some of which I can't give into too much detail for security stuff. But, I mean, a lot of the stuff is learning, like, man, spiritual warfare is real.
And so why would we go in just this normal life? I mean, just this life like everything's normal. Why wouldn't you be protected? Why wouldn't you be on guard and looking? What could God advance in the kingdom today?
So you've got to pray. You've got to look for opportunities. And then sometimes the hard part is you've got to take them. You got to go. And sometimes the best part, like when I'm like we did a we did an unashamed conference where instead of talking about sharing the gospel, we just did it.
You know, and there's going to be times where you sling it and you go, oh, man, I I fumbled over every opportunity. But but sometimes that helps to then share with the group. Yeah, there was this lady at the store. I was going to say something, but I waited for the perfect opportunity and then she left and I didn't say anything that you then go, I'm not going to do that again. Yeah.
I'm not going to miss that again. But if you never analyze it or you never see that person or you never pray through it, then it's like, yeah, you know, I mean, I was busy. Yeah. So I think that helps. Yeah, it does.
And I remember there was a Barna study that was done and it said that, you know, they ask people, what percentage of people or how, you know, if somebody came up to you and was willing to share their faith with an enthusiastic gospel presentation, you know, what percentage of people, you know, do you think would respond or be willing to listen to an enthusiastic gospel presentation? And, you know, I heard that I thought maybe 15% or 18% or 20, 70% of people said that they would be willing to listen to an enthusiastic gospel presentation. And I don't know about you, but that encourages me. Yeah. Well, and I think it just goes back to authenticity.
It's like Jesus wasn't coming down like, well, I don't know. I mean, you guys can believe in me if you want. This is the way, like I am the way, like this is everything. And so the sad part is we've diminished the gospel to cold calling, and maybe we can get some moral attaboys on, well, we did the thing. Instead of, no, this is what sets you free.
And I think it's really important to know that prayer, this, Lord, restore to me the joy of my salvation. I think that's a great place to start. Do you guys remember, anybody listening, when you gave your life to Jesus. Do you remember that moment where it's like, no way this could be true? Like, that's what you get to give to people.
I mean, and so if you can't remember that, or that's not very, or if that's so far away from where you're at with God now, well, you need to re-up. Like, you need to connect with God again and ask him, restore to me the joy of my salvation. Yeah. And I think, you know, we all have to start somewhere. And I remember, you know, Somebody told me one time, they said, if you're making a 2.0 in school and you're not really doing any of your homework and you're doing nothing right, it may not be realistic that you're going to go from that to the next week getting a 4.0.
Now, it's possible with God, all things are possible, but probably not. And I remember the same thing with sharing our faith. There was a lady who was just on fire and was doing all this stuff, an older lady. And I said, what do I, what do I need to do? And I was thinking, you know, she told me to go out for four hours and share the gospel and read the Bible for 12 hours.
And this, no, she said, just go and talk to one person a day and ask them if they need prayer. She said, if you do that, it will open up doors. And I remember my dad who did not become a Christian until right before he died. I tried to share the gospel with him and he said, I don't want to hear that. He said, but if you want to pray for me, you can pray for me.
Yeah. Yeah. Well, speaking of prayer, I think Colossians 4, 2 through 6, I was looking for this passage because this is one of the things that I try to train our students with. And it says, devote yourself. It's kind of an order of operations.
Do I have time for me to share that? Yeah, yeah. Go ahead. Yeah. When you hear the music, we're going to...
Okay, okay. Colossians 4, 2 says, devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. Point one, be watched. Look on the lookout. And then two, pray for us, the church, and yourself that God may open a door for your message, that you can proclaim the mystery of Christ for which Paul was in chains.
And then four, verse four, pray that I may proclaim it clearly as I should. Not just say it, but as clearly as you should. And then be wise, verse five, in the way you act towards outsiders. Make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation.
We are back with the last segment with Hyper Fenton. And, you know, I was watching a guy today online and one of the things that he said, he said, if somebody has a local business and they're on Facebook, he said, you can invite your friends to follow their business. And he said, it takes about 10 seconds and it's absolutely free.
So I'm on a TikTok right now. And if you look up H Y P E R F E N T O N. All you have to do is hit that follow button and you can see what hyper fenton is doing to share his faith and to make it fun You can go to YouTube And what is your YouTube channel if people want to subscribe Hyper It Hyper Fenton same one The same one, Hyper Fenton. And I just looked you up on Instagram. Same thing there too, right?
Yes, sir. Yeah, man. Yeah, man, you're welcome. And you've got a website as well that people can go to. Yes, Hyper Fenton.com.
And that's, I mean, I'm happy to answer any questions. You can reach out to me. I mean, don't be a stranger now. Don't be a stranger. And yeah, you've got to be willing, I guess you could say, to open up your home and this and that.
But before we went to the break, you were saying something and then you got cut off. I'm sorry. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I was just talking about, I mean, y'all have time to read it on your own, but, and I encourage you to, Colossians 4, 2 through 6.
I mean, it's got some touch points to share the gospel. If you pray this prayer before every day, before you go out or before you encounter people, you're going to have divine appointments. It's going to change the way you see people and the way God uses you. Guarantee it. Yeah, absolutely.
And like you said, you have to be willing, you have to be positive, but that doesn't mean, you know, just because people hear you laughing, they see you online and you're having a good time. That doesn't mean you don't have hardships in your own life. Is that right, Seth? Oh, yeah, that's definitely, you know, that's part of everybody's life. I mean, that's this human experience for sure.
So how do you, I mean, because you, we all have obstacles that, that you, we have to overcome. I mean, what do you recommend? Because you're able to stay pretty positive.
Well, I think, yeah, I mean, the last thing I want to, you know, project is that, oh yeah, you follow Christ and your life will be easy. And no, it's like in this life, you will have trouble, but take heart for Jesus has overcome the world. That's really the story of the gospel that, yeah, this world, not all there is. And thank goodness, because it's not even the best there is.
So I think it's not so much that, hey, how can you be happy and positive? It's that the only way that you can have hope is through Jesus.
So why wouldn't you spend time with him as much as possible, then who cares what happens as long as you're with Jesus?
So a lot of people, they want to feel good first so they can be with Jesus. And I've just found that's a little out of order. If you want your life to be right, that's only going to happen through coming to Jesus first. That's right. And I've found, I've told people this before, and some of them listen and some of them don't, but people will try to find peace, joy, and happiness in so many other things, and it just doesn't work out.
Yeah, and you know, it's tough. You know, it's like I'm, and you know, I'm a big believer in that Jesus is the ultimate healer. He's the ultimate provider, but I also think he gives us wisdom and resources, right?
So like, I think sometimes it is appropriate. Like I take medicine for some of my mood stabilization, but I'm also in the word every day. You know, like there's not a pill for everything and there's not a substitute for the Holy Spirit. And so it's kind of like, you know, there's some people, they just need to exercise more, but they still always need to read the Bible.
So it's like, you know, you can do a little bit of everything, but make sure that the thing you're doing most is spending time with Jesus. Yeah, spending time with Jesus. And I've been there and done that with the medicine for that. I matter of fact, I have to take a pill to help me go to sleep at night.
So and I'm taking another pill to help me lose some weight. And so but at the end of the day, I'm not relying on a pill. I am relying on the Lord because I say, Lord, you know, I need your help with this. And so so many times I remember it's in Luke, Luke chapter 18. I believe it's first 10 where Jesus said that there were two men who went up to the church one Sunday.
and they said that one he said one of the men looked at the other guy and he said lord i thank you that i'm not like this other guy he said i i'm a pretty good person i don't commit adultery i give 10 of my money and jesus said that the second guy who was in the back couldn't even look up and he beat on his chest and he said god have mercy on me a sinner and i've noticed when i've been prideful when i've been arrogant when i thought hey i'm really something i'm doing something for the Lord, you know, at many times the Lord will humble me. And then when the Lord humbles me, he's able to use me in a mighty way. And, and, and I know, you know, with all the views, with all the subscribers and followers, um, is it sometimes hard to stay humble?
Well, uh, you know, it's, it's, it can be, especially because in this culture, nothing's enough, you know, nothing's ever good enough. But then on there are times where there's great successes, you feel like, man, you're everything, you know, you're awesome. But I honestly struggle the opposite. Honestly, I struggle the most with like feeling, am I, is this just the dumbest thing that I'm doing? You know, this discouragement from Satan a lot.
And usually how I, I mean, it's the same solution, right? It's still in the word every day, getting around Christian community, biblical, you know, evangelism, like those will help you get out of, uh, over, uh, you know, not being humble and being a little too pessimistic.
So that's kind of how I tackled those. Yeah. It definitely is a balance. And so, you know, you're married right now and you've got two kids and I'm sure, you know, a lot of kids watch J stew and I'm sure adults do too. And, you know, I watch it with my kids, um, and watch your videos as well.
And I learned from them. But, you know, I think it's it was one thing when I was talking about, you know, helping kids or praying for kids or wanting to reach the kids. But then when I actually had kids of my own, Seth, it made it even that more important. Do you see that? Oh, yeah.
I mean, your greatest ministry, that's what I've learned from from dad. You know, I mean, just in terms of proximity, they're right there. Right.
So it would be foolish to be like, well, I want a ministry that's not my current family. You know, it's like, no, you're responsible for them first. And so, yeah, the importance of that. But I've also learned it's caught, not taught, right? Like you can say, hey, we're going to church or hey, you're reading your Bible.
But let them catch you doing that stuff. Let them catch you get excited about Sunday. Let them catch you get excited about a word of God. You know, that's the fun part. Yeah, that's that's a good that's a good word for somebody right there, because, you know, it's like if we make it like this chore that they have, you've got to read your Bible.
you know and they're like oh gosh you know it's like taking out the trash but if you make it exciting the kids can actually enjoy it and you know we we watch youtube videos and like you said some people may say ai is bad youtube videos are bad well with the generation that they're living in where everything is at in their hands or watching a tv or youtube or something like that might as well use the tools that we have to share the gospel with kids that's the way i see it yeah I think it's all about the end connection, right? Like, yeah, I have no problem saying, hey, it's my house, my rules. We're going to church on Sunday. But make sure you are truly loving Christ before and after Sunday, right? Because then it'll feel like it's just an act, right?
And the same thing with YouTube. Yeah, do that YouTube video, but sling the gospel too, you know? Like, let's do both, so. That's really good. And so you said your dad was the pastor when you were growing up and you watched him and you said it, you know, I'm sure he told you a lot, but you said he was a great example.
How so?
Well, he, I've never, yeah, I never felt like, well, what he preached on Sunday, that's just for Sunday. I, if he never preached on Sunday, I would think he would, he would just be just as excellent of a disciple because he lived it on Tuesday night, you know, and always championed the gospel. It wasn't an act for him and neither was it for my mom or my family.
So it was like, wow, why wouldn't I know this God who loves me like my dad does, you know? That's so good. And I think it was Emerson who said, who you are, speak so loudly. that I cannot hear what you say. Yeah, that's good.
Yeah, man. And so once again, it's hyperfenton.com. And when you look at your videos, do you just like brainstorm or spend some time in prayer and then it just kind of comes to you? Or how does it work? It depends on the vid.
Sometimes I'm just, like I've done a couple ones where it's like recently I've got, you know, we've got two kids and, and ministry and schools on stuff.
So I'm like, I'm just going to vlog and we'll see what happens sometimes.
So it all depends. It all depends. And when you do it, I mean, do you, do you, you've mentioned the Holy spirit, have there been videos that you've done or have there been times where you just, and this has happened to me where, yeah, I'm normally going about my whole thing, but there's times where I can just feel like the Holy spirit right there with me. And it's like, I just, you could tell the presence of the Lord is there. I don't know about you, man, but there's nothing like it.
Yeah. I mean, no, there's nothing like it. Usually it's when you get to sling the gospel or you get to see somebody, you know, take their next step with Christ and that, yeah, there's nothing like that. Yeah. There's nothing like that.
And we just have to go out there and do it. And the name of your church again, where you're at? Meadows Baptist Church in Plano, Texas, right across the street from Plano East Senior High School.
Okay. And if they want to follow that as well, they can follow on Facebook, I'm assuming, and maybe Instagram, or how would they follow it? Yeah. Instagram, but YouTube is the main thing. But if you just want to go to meadowsbaptist.org, Meadows, like Rolling Meadows, meadowsbaptist.org, that'd be a great spot.
Yeah. And when I went onto your website, hyperfenton.com, I was able to scroll through there and people can actually watch your sermons that you've preached on the website. That's right. Yeah, man. Well, Hyper Fenton, I want to thank you so much for what you're doing.
I know that this blessed somebody today. I know it blessed me, man. And we're just blessed to have you at the Truth Network. Follow Hyper Fenton on all social media, share it with your friends, and most importantly, share Jesus with somebody and build a relationship. Thanks a lot, Hyper.
Amen.
