Had to do the walk of shame, right? Like, you know. Oh, that chug, chug, chug. And you, man, I thought it would go another five miles or whatever the situation may be. Can you picture that in your mind?
If you ever had that happen again, you know, this is a live show, and we would love your story, especially if it's, you know, God showed up for you somehow. 866-348-7884. But even more. to the point, have you ever realized that she ran out of gas spiritually and Like What did God Bring into your life that helped refuel you. Right.
That did, that you actually experienced, that made a difference to where, man. All of a sudden You felt like getting out and doing it again. 866-348-7884-866-34 TRUTH. Doc, it's time to refuel, buddy. Absolutely.
And yes, I have the story of running out of gayas. And yes, I have the story that I would say I got low. On fumes, doing ministry. And evangelists really learned the necessity of refueling. And as we think about our topic today, not only do we focus on anyone.
Running the Christian race, but as we think about Christian leaders, ministers, not just pastors, anyone involved in the church. you can uh become weary while doing good Paul says that do not become worn out while doing good, for you will reap in due season. We're looking for pastors, Christian leaders as well today. What does it take to get refueled? And, um, Yeah, we got Jason and we got Dan.
So Take care. Let's go to Jason. Jason is with a tremendous ministry called Thomas Rowe Baptist Church, and Jason works with Pastor Jonathan Falwell, and they do a ministry to pastors, to Christian leaders called Refuel. Jason, welcome to the show. Dwayne, my good friend, how are you doing?
Ravi, it's great to be on with you as well. Thank you. And I'm driving down the road. Caveat, if I drop out.
Well, let's hope you don't run out of gays. Have you checked your gas?
Well, you know, I heard your intro, and as funny as it may seem, I was running on E, and I was literally driving. I looked on Google Maps and saw that there was a station five miles ahead. This is a true story that just happened to me.
So, yes. I was literally on fumes. And uh I needed to refill, so yeah. Yeah, it's it it it just happens. And you know, it's a good thing when we know it in our car.
And so this this conference is really you have some dynamite people coming to help people get refueled, right? That's absolutely right.
So I don't know what I just called in, so maybe you shared. A little bit of the info of how to find out. It's October 19 to 20, Monday and Tuesday, right here in Lynchburg, Virginia. And so there's yeah, we've got a great lineup of speakers. And it's going to be an amazing time for For all Pastors, church workers.
It's not just for men, it's for women. It's of that are in all areas of your ministry. It might be a church worker or in a parachurch ministry. And of course, we'll have all kinds of resources there as well. Uh to help Churches, uh, in order to carry out the work of carrying the gospel, and there's all kinds of administrative things and just different resources that are there to help those pastors as well.
So it's going to be a really, really good time And Lynchburg is a beautiful place to visit, especially if you're going to go on and on. Especially in October. The leaves will be gorgeous. The Blue Ridge Mountains are in. Full display, it's really an amazing place to spend a couple days.
In the autumn. um with with other church leaders. Jason, this idea of refuel, where did it come from? You know, years ago, so Dwayne, think back with me because I'm really trying to remember. But Dr.
Falwell started a conference. I don't know if it was in the early 70s or late 60s. You know, when you started to invite. They're pastors and church leaders too. Our campus.
And honestly, I think this is not a new story, but. If you look at the stats, and I can't quote them for you right now, the Pew Research But will show that more and more pastors at an alarming rate are walking away from the pulpit. Yes. They're they're Yeah. Experiencing trouble, maybe in their family.
There's anxiety, there's the pressures of the world on them. Could be financial, but it might be. Just that they're burned out. Right? I mean, that happens to all of us.
You mentioned the time in your life when you were Burned out, and you just needed a word, right? And God used that word to renew you and strengthen you. And so that's what this conference is all about: it's the heartbeat of our pastor. who has an incredible platform. And certainly now with the addition of Being Chancellor at Liberty University and training young, energetic students to go out.
But we also are there for the pastor that's been doing this for a long time and just seems to be maybe hitting their head against the wall. and can't seem to find the effectiveness in ministry that maybe they once had And so the vision is To refuel. Refuel is the word we found. Pick your favorite metaphor. But we want to encourage.
The discouraged. And you know, one of our speakers years ago was Jim Simbala. Yes. And of course, to borrow from Jim Simbela, to give those pastors a fresh wind and a fresh fire. That's it.

Welcome. Dan, we're talking about. Thank you for having me. Hey, we're talking about pastors needing to be refueled. What do you think about that thought?
Well, having been a pastor for over 20 years now, which is hard to believe because I'm only in my 30s, but don't you tell a lie like that. Not true, but having done this for a long time, I certainly. Have experienced those seasons of realizing that I needed to be refueled. This is maybe a fairly popular saying, but it's something good to remember: pastors are people too. And I think really.
Pastors are people. Our listeners need to hear that. If you're not a pastor, please hear what Dan just said. Pastors are people too. And I think growing up, you know, I always looked up to and admired my pastors and.
And I've been blessed and privileged to have a few very, very amazing pastors in my life. You're one of them, Duane. And, but I think when you have that perspective, you sort of look, you almost feel like they are. Superhuman. Like they're pastors.
They're called by God. They're gifted. They're. Their leaders are strong. They're never afraid.
They're never worried. They're never discouraged. They've got it all together. And then you become a pastor and you realize, That wasn't always The whole case, and although God was using them, like I said, they are people too. And I've discovered that that means I need to be I can't give out what I don't have.
And the calling on, and I know, pastors, we want to give out. God's called us to serve. We want to give out God's word. We want to give out prayer. We want to give out encouragement.
We want to help marriages. We want to. Do whatever we can to make an impact for the kingdom. But you have to have something in the tank to do that. And Sometimes we've given out.
and we realize we don't have much left to give. And I think just in the conversation there, the discussion about running on funes, I think a lot of pastors could probably identify with that. And You know, sometimes Dan. Hey, we gotta cut you off. We gotta go to a break.

So you guys know that I drive the Busmobile. Right. And it's had different, it's taken on different models. That name's taken on different models. And so far, I was scanning my brain, Robbie.
I know you're the Christian Carr guy. Um but I have not got a story of me personally running out of gas in the bus mobile. But I do have many stories where other people did, and it kind of coincides with our other topic of You know, do we run out of gas spiritually or emotionally? And I've got a story for that that I'll back up. But there was this time in the car.
Where it was Christmas Eve, guys, and it was several years ago now, and it was frigid. here in Ohio on Christmas Eve. I mean absolutely frigid guys. And sure enough, I was on my way back to the bus glare, and there was a truck. broke down on the side of the road.
And I thought, Wow, bus, you can't leave these people. Who's ever in that car You know, you can't just pass by'em. And on Christmas Eve, and they had their flashers on and everything.
So I pulled over. And I stopped. And it was a young man uh probably in his twenties. And he did not know how to get his car to or truck started again.
So I pulled over and I said, Hey, sit in my car, the heater's running. I said, How long have you been sitting here? He goes, Quite some time, man, and you're the first and only person that's ever stopped. I said, Well, I'm a Christian, and that's what Jesus people do. And this guy's face just lit up, guys.
And I said, Sit in the car, and he did. And turns out it was just a little, it was just a little glitch. I did, guys. I prayed over this man's truck. And I took my tools out, and I just all I did, Robbie, was I took the Negative side battery cable off of his car, because it was a newer, newer truck, rather.
And I removed it, waited for a little while, replaced it, and tightened it back up. And I said, okay, see if that did it. And because I knew a little bit, and you probably know the reason why that worked. And it started up. And he was like, wow, man.
I said, well, I gotta give credit to God here, young man, about this. And um he was able to go about his way, but not before I shared the gospel to him, and he was just beaming when he left. And this was Christmas Eve, guys.
So I gotta jump in here, Bosk. You got to, yes.
So it's so beautiful because I know what Jace is talking about, what Kim's going to talk about is refueling, right? And what you actually did when you. took that cable off and you put it back on. Is you rebooted that computer. It had become disconnected from its actual power source due to looping.
And when you did what you did, You actually reconnected it.
So the source, right? Which wow, Robbie. You can't miss that God was winking at you. Here you go. And to some extent, you reconnected your friend, right?
Yeah. To the source that. You know, I love it. I absolutely love it. Here's my spiritual story, Robbie.
So in the 24 to 25, year 24 to 25, your friend fell into a very deep Uh clinical Ah, depression. And I was suicidal. Until God Until God, this is what happened, and I'm hoping this will help the pastors and the leaders out there that Refuel is trying to minister to. Until God showed up through a text That I had received from a friend of mine who was running for a very serious political office. And this dear man out of the blue, because I was so social with everyone, they're like, Well, where is he?
We haven't heard from him for a long time. I mean, it was just I was just I had enough power just to go to work, come home and and I just slept all the time. I was just in a very, very deep deep depression. And this man texts me out of nowhere and says, hey, I want you to come to my Uh informal campaign launch And I want you to pray over me and my family. And my campaign.
And I remember guys thinking, just texting back, Busk. And say I have things to do.
Sorry, I love you, but I can't do it. And I almost sent that to this dear man, this dear friend of mine. And God intervened. Dr. Carson Robbie, Truth Talk Live, said you will go to that campaign launch and you will pray for that man.
So I did. And I remember reading Joshua to him in the prayer. And all these people, after we got done praying and we all raised our heads back up, all of them was like I felt that prayer bus when we're in the world, you know, and everybody was congratulating me. I said, listen, please. This is just God showing up.
And then later on, I told my dear friend. why he hasn't heard from me for such a long time. I mean, it was months, gentlemen. I remember not even calling Truth Talk Live. But it's beautiful, though.
I know. I know you did. I remember it well. I was like, remember that, Robin? I watched your heart, brother.
I love you so much. I I was You know, same here. And we were like, where's Bossman? But it's exactly the same kind of thing. You know, I know we're talking about refuel, but God showed me this this week, and I don't want to miss it.
that in Genesis chapter 2, God said it's not good for man to be alone. And it's kinda like, you know, I ain't good, man. It's not good. It's not good. And I was studying that word alone, Bussman.
Yeah. And I found inside that in Hebrew this idea of self-serf. And see when Adam was alone, he there was nobody for him to serve. That's not good. Yeah.
And so, what's cool is that guy called you.
so that you could go serve. That's right. What I learned, gentlemen, was this. And I would pray this over all the pastors, all the leaders, And I'll say this to their congregations and the people that they do serve. Please let them know that you need them.
Yeah, yes. Please let them know that you need that pastor, you need that leader, you need Truth Talk Live, you need the Truth Network. Let them know that you need it, and that will Quickly refuel that servant. That is so awesome, Buzman. Thank you.

So we got We got Tim's been hanging on a long time. Yeah. We've been looking for some pastors who could tell us about how refuel impacted their lives, Jason. And we've got Tim here. Tim, you're on Truth Talk Live.
Hey, hey guys, how are you doing today?
Well, wonderful. We're anxious to hear how it helped you, Tim. Oh, refuels. Regional has been a great conference over the last few years, and I'm a pastor here in Virginia. I've been pastoring for, I'd say, around eight years in the lead role, eleven years full time.
I think this year will be my tenth year attending the REFill Conference and Without it, I think I could confidently say I probably would have been out of ministry by now. Mm. What a statement. What what grabbed you? What that started?
Yeah, what makes the difference? What what what has helped you so much? I mean, was there one particular that yeah, that you would make such a statement? Was there a speaker or just talking with fellow pastors? What what grabbed you?
Well, I think there's two sides of it. We've covered, and a lot of the gentlemen have already covered it throughout the show today, and that is. You know, us pastors who are delivering or preaching a sermon every single week. We've got to be preached at as well. We've got to be fed as well.
So that's That's a huge component of it. But I'd say the networking and the connections of being around Other Men and women, as was mentioned today, this is just not for pastors, but church leaders and volunteers and. Families. Just being around. the family of God realizing I'm not alone in this.
I feel alone at times, but I'm not alone. And I think that's what really sparks the refueling when you come to a conference like this. That's beautiful. Absolutely. You know, Jason and I were talking a couple days ago.
For me, 2 Timothy 2:22 takes on a huge component of my spiritual life because it says, flee youful lust.
Well, there were things I needed to get out of my life, but then Paul says, pursue righteousness, faith, and peace, and love. And so there's things I need to be going after. I run away from some things, I run after some things. But there's this statement in 2 Timothy 2:22. And Robbie, you hit on it with this component of Adam being alone.
He says, with those who called on the name of the Lord with a pure heart. And the fact that for me, Refuel gives a chance to be running with others who know what the race is like. And you get encouragement from one another. And you're able to help others understand how to run better. And those breakout sessions will be part of that.
We get the exhortation, but we also get the equipping. And I saw that on that website, Jason. That's what this conference is about. Not just the exhortation, but the equipping so pastors can run and not run out.
Well, thank you, Tim. That's right. Any other thoughts, Tim? Yeah, I would just uh You know, I just appreciate Thomas Rowe doing this. You know, of course, it's free of charge for anyone coming.

So Brian, are you a pastor as well? Yes, sir. I'm a pastor. In the middle of Georgia, right outside of Atlanta. And I know y'all are looking for running out of gas stories.
Yeah. Well, it's going to come as no surprise to Dwayne. But I look at the empty thing on my truck as a challenge. You know, it tells you at 50 miles, the light comes on. And I have far too many times set the little meter on my truck to see if I can make it 50 miles.
But there was a time when I was taking my kids to school early in the morning, and I had to drive into the middle of Savannah. Uh-oh, Brian, that music means we got to go to a break right in the middle of it. We're going to find out what happens when he's on his way to Savannah. When we come back, stay tuned. Pastor Jonathan Falwell will be coming online to tell us more about what refuel is all about in his heart. But, Brian, you ran out of gas. Why am I not surprised?
Well, I dropped my kids off in the middle of Savannah, and right when I was going over the overpass to get back into the real world. I um in the middle of rush hour traffic I ran out of gas. And I had just enough momentum to pull over. And it's a two-lane road over the overpass. And I'm sitting there thinking, I don't know what I'm going to do.
And man, I have all these things going on in my head about it. Just, you know, sometimes your life is reflective of your spiritual life. And I was I was out of gas spiritually. And this guy, Knocked on my window. And he said, hey man, are you out of gas?
And I was like, yes, sir. He's like, hold on a second. He walks over, reached in the back of his truck, grabs some gas. put gas in my tank and said, all right, man, go ahead. And I drove to the nearest gas station, but you know, it was right around that time when the Lord knew I was out of gas, and He sent a guy to my church.
Been a pastor for 35 years in California, retired, moved to middle of nowhere, Georgia. And he was everything I needed. Spoke life into me. He'd sit in the office and say, Brian, this is where you are right now. And, you know, a lot of times we run out of gas because we're focusing on ourselves and we're thinking about what we're struggling with and what we're going through.
But if we pay attention, God sends the people that we need. But we have to be willing to listen to him. And that's exactly what happened in my life. Mm, that's awesome, Brian. We need mentors, and that's part of what Refuel offers.

Now easy. We have Dr. Jonathan Falwell. Welcome to the show, Jonathan. How you doing, Duane?
Good to talk to you and good to hear Brian and share his testimony there. What a great story that is. And I think probably all of us at some point in our lives could have a story that's similar to what he just said. And certainly not maybe running out of gas in the middle of the highway, but certainly running out of gas in our walk with God. You have carried on your father's legacy with this aspect of bringing pastors to Lynchburg, to Thomas Road, to keep them in the race.
I just want I want you to tell the listeners here with Truth Network what fuels your passion to refuel pastors?
Well, you know, clearly in ministry, and when we talk about pastors, you know, I take it one step further than that. What I really talk about people who are in ministry, because, you know, granted, there are people who, you know, their vocation or at least their bi-vocation is as a pastor. But, you know, we're all called into ministry. We're all called to serve in the local church. And so, you know, with what we do with our Refuel Conference, it focuses far more than just on a person who sits in the seat of the pastor and focuses more on the individuals as the body of Christ who are putting their lives out there, putting their time into it, putting their efforts into helping to fulfill the mission that God has placed on the church.
And so, yeah, so my heart and my passion is: man, we want to make sure that anybody, whether again, as the pastor or lay leaders within the church. Whatever that might be, church staff, we want to help them continue to have a desire to go to the long haul, the long run.
So many people today get discouraged in ministry. They get tired of what they're doing. You know, life's tough, ministry stuff. And when you package all that together in one, and if a pastor or a lay leader within a church is putting so much effort into helping in the church, serving in the church, and then because of all they're doing, they come to a moment where they feel tired, they feel worn out, they feel neglected, or maybe they feel as if they've been betrayed. Oftentimes, they'll walk away and just walk away from what they're doing.
And of course, Refuel, in my heart, is we want to make sure that what we're doing out of Thomas Road, out of Liberty University, that we are serving the individuals who are serving the church. And so that's why this conference is something we've been doing for years. We do it for free. We don't charge anybody to come. We provide resources.
We provide meals. We do all kinds of things to help them come and to, you know, for a 24-hour, 36-hour period of time, to have the opportunity of people pouring into them, of connecting with other individuals who are in a similar state, similar situation, so they can know that, number one, they're not alone. And number two, God's going to give them everything they need to continue doing what he's called them to do. Mm, that's excellent. I love your passion.
Galatians 6, 9 says, And let us not grow weary while doing Good. And that's a shocking statement to me. You would think it would be something. We would wear out because of doing sin, but when Christians are doing good, they are working so hard, and your passion is not just that pastor on Sunday, but that person who's working in the Sunday school, working in the nursery. They've got to get refueled as well.
They're giving out, and we don't want them to give out. We want them to be able to stay at it. And so, Paul's words, don't grow weary while doing well. You will reap in due season if you don't lose heart. What excites you about this coming conference, October the 19th and the 20th?
Well, again, as we do every year, and this is a conference we have been doing for decades. In my dad, when he was alive, we did the same conference. We called it the super conference at that time, and now it's called the refuel.
So we've been doing this probably for 50 years, maybe. And in that, you know, that time from going all the way back to day one, today to today, it's always been about making sure that someone who comes from wherever they might be, from whatever church they may be serving, and they sit with us for a few days, we have the opportunity of just encouraging them and strengthening them, giving them the opportunity of hearing from some people that are in a similar situation that they are, but also hearing from some key leaders in our country that have something to say that can help them in their journey. This year, we've got Clayton King that's going to be there. We have DJ Horton. We have Jimmy Scroggins, Dondi Kostin, who is our new president at Liberty.
I guess he's not new now. He's been there for three years, but still new in the sense that he's not been there more than three years. And myself and others. Will be having the opportunity of kind of sharing some important thoughts, some important truths that. Regardless of what it is that you do, whether it, again, whether it's in vocational ministry, whether it's in bivocational, whether it's a lay ministry, or let me say this.
Or if it just happens to be a person who is a part of a local church who just feels tired in their faith, they feel as if they're wondering what tomorrow might hold, wondering if it's worth the effort. We're all going to be speaking into the truth that God's going to give us everything that we need. You go to Jeremiah chapter 1, that passage when God was speaking to Jeremiah. He says, Listen, I've known you before you were ever born. I called you before you were ever born.
I put my hand upon you at that time. And while Jeremiah's response is, man, I don't have what it takes, God. I'm too young. I don't have the wisdom. I don't have the knowledge.
I don't have the ability. I think all of us have been in a place where we've made that call and made that cry before God. And then God said these words. He said, Do not feel as if you don't have what it takes because I have put my hand upon you and I'll give you everything that you need.
So don't be afraid. Don't be afraid to stand up to anyone. Don't be afraid of anyone. And sometimes we need to take that word anyone and reply it. Uh Ourselves.
We don't need to be afraid of our insecurities and our fears and the things that we have, that we can be encouraged. And so that's what Refuel is all about. Robbie, I think Jonathan's got a passion here. He was preaching right there, sir. We can be like Jeremiah and wonder, should we keep at this?

So, on Tuesday night, at Tuesday night, we have the opportunity. The last session is going to be the workouts are in the workshops are in the afternoon. And then that night, we have a dinner that we're going to be providing. And Jimmy Scroggins and I will be speaking, talking about how to have a healthy church in an unhealthy world. In a culture today that is constantly pushing back against being faithful to the word of God and the call of God, Jimmy and I are going to sit there and just have a conversation with and for the people in the room of how we can be faithful for the long haul, making sure that we finish well no matter where we are in the journey, no matter where we are in the longevity of our ministry.
Some people, I just turned 60 a couple of weeks ago, so I know that I've got less runway left in front of me than a lot of people do. But man, just staying faithful to the end. And so that's where we're going.
