Communion is a powerful symbol of God's love and redemption, representing the bread of life and the blood of Christ. It's a reminder of the Passover and the unleavened bread, signifying our freedom from slavery to sin. As we take communion, we examine our hearts and seek God's guidance, remembering the sacrifice of Jesus and the promise of salvation through faith.

This is the Truth Network. Welcome to Truth Talk Live. All right, let's talk. The truth is, I can't hide it. I can hold it.

A daily program powered by the Truth Network. This is kind of a great thing, and I'll tell you what. Where pop culture, current events, and theology all come together. Speak your mind. And now, here's today's Truth Talk Live host.

your communion moment when Jesus is Jesus became more than a symbol, right? Most of us who had... A communion moment, maybe in a church service, or maybe it was at a hospital bedside. In your car or a prison bunk, right? Around a kitchen table or.

Maybe it was in the middle of heartbreak. You know, I've had some amazing Commune communion moments at Masland Journey Boot Camp. You know, it's just one of those things where he just becomes so real. And we would love to hear yours. Or maybe there's something about.

The elements that you just Marvel at every time that you take the bread in your mouth or you take the cup. We would love, love, love to hear what your thoughts are. 866. 348-7884 is the number to call in and share your. Communion moment or your thoughts on The elements or any thoughts you might have along these lines.

866366. Three, four, eight, seven, eight, eight, four, you know? Oh. We took communion when they did the million man thing on the square in Washington, D.C. that time.

That was pretty memorable. And just last December for me, and I think about a thousand pastors, we were in Jerusalem. at the garden tomb. And we took communion. And um And Dr.

Carsman was right there with me. I wish he was with me right the second on the show. It's always great to have him with me. But maybe he'll call in and share what that meant to just like be right there. Like you just had a chance to look inside.

where they laid his body. Right, where? You know, hours before he said that, right? Do this in remembrance of me. I think that there's some spectacular stories out there and.

I know you would encourage so many by just you know, sharing what's on your heart. 866, the number to call, 866-348-7884, 866-348-7884. And today also is Money Monday.

So in the last segment, we're going to have David Fisher with landmark capital and his scripture. Today is Psalm 3721.

So we're going to learn some stewardship ideas from King David and David Fisher, a pair of David today. That's coming up in the last segment.

So as you know, you know, God's provision is so much more than a paycheck, right? The bread of life. And the new covenant. And so, you know, if you've experienced that, um. Especially in the taking of communion.

We did it actually yesterday at our church and it was it was one of those Uh heavenly moments, right, where you can kind of taste his presence. And we talked about yesterday, it's fascinating. There's so many different things about the elements. You could talk about the bread has got the holes in it, like he was pierced, or you could. I love to talk about the wine that.

Jesus said, this cup is a new covenant in my blood. And the reason why that became so significant when I came to understand That From a Jewish person's perspective, their circumcision, if they were male, was the covenant in their blood. But here Jesus is saying, This covenant is going to be in my blood. And man, would they see what that would be in just a few hours? And as he would say, Do this in remembrance of me, and it wouldn't be but a few hours.

And he would be hearing from the thief on the cross, Will you remember me when you come into your kingdom?

So it's a lot about remembering. And so we're asking you right now to remember something. About communion that just you hold dear and that other people can. 866-3486. 7884.

I always like to talk about A lot about the bread and The fact that it you know, it's crushed in order to make the flour. It's it's certainly you know, kneaded and b pushed down in order to to make it into the unleavened cakes. But then when you when you actually put it in your mouth, I always think about that you as you chew on it, you're crushing it again. And you know, he was certainly crushed. And that's part of the Um You know, process as we take communion that comes through my mind.

But I am so, I would love to know what goes through yours as you're experiencing communion as only you can, right? And you. You know, I was thinking about it this week, that this idea of bread, lehem in Hebrew is a fascinating word in that it is also you could say it's bread, but the same exact letters spell the word fight or battle. Hmm. You can kind of see that the original place that you see bread in the Bible, and you might realize that Jesus came to undo the curse.

Well, that curse was that you will eat bread by the sweat of your brow and the amount of work that would go into that. And with Jesus saying, He's the bread of life, and again, we're taking that into ourselves. You know, that's life without having to work for it. You know, you don't get the bread of life that Jesus gave you. By the sweat of your brow.

And so the life that you have by believing in Him, you see, you receive. Is you don't have to work for it. There's no sweat involved. He did all the sweating, he did all the bleeding. you know And some of those things, you know, are just absolutely precious.

866-348-7884.

So you may know that one of the first. kind of fights that that Jesus picked Was with the Pharisees over when they were walking through the grain field, right? And you may note, and then all three gospels, all three of the synoptic gospels, in other words, Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Um Jesus makes reference when they tell him that. Do you not remember the time that King David came in?

And ate the bread, right? This is the holy bread that was consecrated, what we would know as a showbread. And he tells. Them to remember that story, which is just a fascinating thing. That if you can imagine if you're a Pharisee that day, and here comes these disciples, and they're walking through, and all of a sudden, this teacher makes reference to this story.

Well, if you go read that story in 1 Samuel 21, you're going to see. that Ahimelech, the pri high priest at the time, right, he asked David why he came. And he he he said that king sent him, which was actually, you know, completely not true. And so Jesus is making reference to this very fascinating story where David essentially. Comes under the pretense of being sent there by the king, and he did not.

And his men were starving, and so he asked for some bread. And the priest said, Well, the only bread we have is this consecrated bread, this holy bread. And you may know that on the golden table there were 12 loaves, right? And so when you think about Jesus bringing up this story, if you were a young Jewish boy and the thought of Going into the temple and eating that particular bread? Really?

Because only the priests were supposed to be able to eat it. And so, why is Jesus bringing up this strange story? Where David Actually Ask the high priest to give him what you mean. Just what kind of nerve would it take to ask? Because at this point in time, David was not king.

You know, he was one of the king's servants. And why in the world did the priest give him? Give it to him. Right? And why did Jesus bring this up in the middle of this story?

You know, these are the things I think about when it comes to bread because it's such a. Phenomenal, phenomenal. piece of the puzzle that goes throughout scripture. Especially when you consider that Jesus was born in Bethlehem, which means house of bread, right? See this picture.

Well, what King David says, and this is spectacular, He's explaining to the priest why he should get the bread. And David, because he asked if he'd been kept from women, because he wanted to make sure that the men were considered still ceremonially clean.

So Jesus answers the priest and says, Truly women have been kept from us, as always when we go on an expedition. The vessels of the young men are holy, even when it's an ordinary journey. How much more to-day will their vessels be holy? Right? If we give them this bread, even though they're kedosh, they're they're holy.

By by taking in this bread. they become even more so.

Well, think about What Jesus is saying about the whole idea of communion there was fascinating, but also that he would say this to the Pharisees: to like, what are you talking about? 866-348-7884.

Call us with your thoughts. We'll be right back. Welcome back to Truth Talk Live. Today's question. Your communion moment, right?

When Jesus became more than a symbol, something like you took communion, it was just wow, something happened. You could feel his presence. You realized you were not only communion with God, but communion with a bunch of people that were there at the time, that you were sharing the moment. We would love to hear your experience because those things, man, I mean, they've just encouraged lots of folks. 866, the number to call in and share, 866-348-7884, 866-348-76.

seven eight eight four. And so it I love and and you know, if you have something about these elements when you take 'em, uh oh, I love stuff like that. I'd I'd love to hear, you know, how you you you feel his presence through, you know, this You know, it's just, it was ordained that we do this and we get to do it. It's absolutely amazing. And um You know, I know some churches do it every week, some very rarely.

It's just interesting to me, the different patterns, and how does that feel to you? You know, the connection to the The whole Passover is gigantic. And so somebody called a second, but they can call back at 866-348-7884. We got plenty of room to take your call, believe me. But you know at Passover Right, when you think about the symbols of Passover, they are unleavened bread, right?

Which happened exactly, right, the very same time as Easter because it was a. Passover supper that was, you know, what some people would call a seder that Jesus was celebrating the night before Good Friday, right? Monday, Thursday. And so at that point Table is where he offered the bread and the wine that would end up being how we remember him in communion. And those things were very specific, the way that they were to celebrate that, as you're going to find in.

All over Exodus and Leviticus, several different places where it gives you all the different ordinances and the things that you're going to do in order to make that happen. And of course, one of those is that they have to eat unleavened bread. And so it's very much a symbol. And they ate unleavened bread because it was the bread of haste. They had gotten out of slavery and now they needed to make haste to get out of Dodge.

I mean, they had to get out of Egypt, right?

Well, I don't know if you've ever given this much thought. I was thinking about it. Those last few days is that. As you eat. The Communion bread.

It's like you got to make haste to come out from underneath the bondrage of slavery that we find ourselves in to sin. Or quite often, if you think about it, you know. As we were talking about a minute ago, Jesus picked a fight with all these different Pharisees. It was clear that he healed on the Sabbath so many times. He had this argument over picking grain on the Sabbath.

He was clearly making an argument against the Pharisees.

Well, do you ever give it any thought? Is that so that we could look out amongst our neighbors and see if we could pick out a Pharisee? Or. Was that so that we could look inside and see? The Pharisee inside of us, right?

The hypocrite, that we could, as we examine ourselves before taking communion, we could begin to think, oh man. You know, that's the one Jesus was talking about that I need to be convicted of. That I need to, that that's the battle Jesus wants me to fight is the Bible makes me see myself more clearly. As I get to see God more clearly, I get a chance to see myself. Maybe it was something that one time when you examined yourself, like you just realized, man, I can't take communion right now because I'm going through this.

I've got this grievance against my neighbor or something. 866-348-7884-866-34874747474747. Seven eight eight four. What strikes your heart? We know what is God putting on your heart to call in and share.

We would believe me. Um You know, I I think it's more than neat. Um, my friend Bill Mixon, who, um Does a Christian car guy show with me often? He will often go into the prisons and take communion with the prisoners, right? And what a neat thing.

Even in the middle of whatever incarceration may feel like. They're still Able to exercise the ultimate and freedom, right? To commune with God Himself. Right? to commune with the people that are there with you at the time, And that idea of, like, we talked about with David and the showbread, that.

Wow, we get to take the absolute holiness of this of this symbol inside of ourselves. And, you know, what a feeling that is. And so as they made that bread of haste, I don't know if you knew this, but I think it's really cool that the Jewish people, when they celebrate Passover, they will spend weeks trying to make sure that there is no leaven in their house, to make sure there's no yeast. And they go so far as actually, because the very second the water touches flour, I think they have four minutes. If I'm not mistaken, it's four minutes.

Before, if they put the water to the flour to make unleavened bread, it has to be in the oven within four minutes of the time the water touched the bread in order for it to be kosher or to be ceremonial clean.

So, you know, they're taking this seriously. There would be no yeast, right? And then, of course, there's lots of teaching on yeast, but again, the idea of bread and the significance. of bread as it comes to this idea of the battle against slavery. Right.

And uh you know one of the elements that Jesus would clearly you know Give us And of course, then he would make such a case, right, in John chapter 6, that he is the bread of life. And as he explains all that, he actually. gives you this idea of what communion will be. And, you know, so as you think through those things in times that were special, right? You know, for me.

Uh We do these Camps for men.

Some people might think of them as retreats, but they're the further thing from retreating I can possibly imagine. Because we're coming right after men's hearts, and it's masculine journey boot camp. And so, quite often, if you're on the team there, you're getting up at three or four o'clock in the morning for me and preparing both food and some of the teaching that we may have, and we may not. Um You know, get a chance until we get done with the men until 10 or 11 o'clock, and we always meet for prayer, right? And we've been known to take communion at those times.

And so, when you just had a whole day just absolutely serving the Lord and seeing huge breakthrough for men that really struggle with some things. unbelievable stories of Things that have been done to them, or unbelievable stories of breakthrough as they heard from God, and something that they've been wounded with. It's just amazing to see God work. And there you are with all these other men that have been in the battlefield with you, essentially in the trenches now for however many days. And then.

Right? You do this in remembrance of some Christ and you think, man. Oh. Oh. Yeah.

To remember what the blood of Christ means. What The freedom that when you see somebody that struggled and struggled and struggled, and see them to begin to come out of that, and they're eating that. That bread of haste in order to come out from underneath that battle. It's absolutely spectacular. And then to be able to share that with.

Um The men God put in your life in order to do that in all sorts of ways is just a special time. How does that play out for you? 866348788486634TRUTH. You know, we Are so excited here at Truth to be able to, right, have live shows like this so that you can call in and take part of it. And when you do, you encourage so many other people.

I can tell you that the hero of most shows I've ever done live were the lit were the callers, right? That called with something that they shared. You know, like I said in the intro, maybe it was at the bedside of a loved one, and maybe you knew that it was their last communion or something like that is special to you. Again, those stories are so encouraging. Again, because they touch our hearts and they help us to see how real God really is.

And that's what communion is about: to experience God live. And so we got a break now so you can call in during the break. We would love that. 866-348-9. 7-884-8663-4 TRUTH.

We'll be right back with a whole lot more. Your communion moment, what Jesus became, when Jesus became more than a symbol. Truth talks. Why? Welcome back to True Talk Live.

Today's question: Your communion moment when Jesus. became more than a symbol to you. When was a time that you took communion. And oh man, it just it Something happened and you just sensed his presence. You sense his presence in community, right?

And you had a chance to do that with your church, or maybe you have it happen every single time. You say, Robbie, every time I take communion, it's special, and this is why I would love to hear your ideas, your thoughts. 866-3487-884-866-34877. Seven. eight eight four you know maybe done at a special family time.

Um You know, when something was going on that was a huge struggle within your family, and you just said, Hey, why don't we see if we can come together in communion? Uh Yeah. Do this in remembrance of Christ. There was no greater act of love, right, that ever took place, as you imagine.

So we've talked a lot about the bread.

Well, there's another one. There's the. There is the cup. And the cup, as we know, represents the blood. And it's such a mystery, right?

God said in Genesis. 9.4, but flesh with the with the Life there, excuse me, but the flesh with the blood which has the life in it. You shall not eat.

So It's fascinating. How is it, again, according to Genesis 9.4, that life itself is in this blood? And as God said in Genesis 4.10 about Abel's blood, right, that it was crying from the ground.

So here is this Phenomenal element. Of not just what Jesus said, this is a blood, this is a promise. It's a living promise, because if we know that it's Jesus' blood that's alive, and certainly when you think about that DNA that touched Um the earth that day And I don't know if you've ever been to Jerusalem. To me, I really, really enjoyed the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. And there they.

They actually have the spot where they feel like, you know, the blood of Christ actually came down there and that. In some way was connected to Adam's original sin. And so in undoing that, which we can see obviously God was doing that, but overall. But I don't know if it happened in the exact same place and if it was right there at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, I don't know. But nonetheless, you know, there it came.

And and It came not just from his hands and feet as they were pierced, but one of the places it came from was his side, right? And the idea that... You know, when Adam made Eve, he took it from Adam's side.

Well, similarly, right? He brought the church from Jesus' side, and part of that was clearly in the blood, right? And so. The spectacular part of what it is that we're drinking in this promise to his church coming right out of his very side. to me it's just it's it's just beyond spectacular.

And this idea that it's an absolute promise. He's promising that by his own blood.

So we got Mike is in Dayton, Ohio. My friend Mike. Yeah. Don't you love communion? Oh, I do love you.

Um Every uh Christmas Eve, we have communion at our church, and we have like a candlelight visual, and we have communion. And those are some special times for me. Um, it was my it's my dad's birthday. Really? Your dad's birthday was New Year Christmas Eve?

Good Christmasy, yeah. And it's uh It kind of It takes me back to when I was safe. And when I was saved That we had communion the night before. It was a Sunday night, and we had communion. And the pastor preached on Wow.

I'm hearing an echo, so I'm trying to ignore it. Trying to focus at the same time.

Sometimes that system does that. I'm sorry. But you can do it, Mike. Focus. Yeah.

But they had communion and they talked about Jesus dying on the cross and the shedding of his blood and the sacrifice in his body. And um The night the night after that. I was I was in my it was in the bathroom. And I got saved. I prayed to God.

I said, I understand what you did for me. And um I want to be safe. And and uh I was safe in that bathroom that that at at that on Monday night. Yeah. Or or Sunday night season.

Yeah. So they had communion on Sunday morning and they Yeah, it's Sunday night. And so the communion The communion happened before your salvation experience? Yeah. And and my dad said Well, this first time we were going to the church And he said, this offer.

Pay attention what's going on. And then, you know, just do what they're doing and how they're doing it. And so I was really paying attention to the pastor when he was preaching about the. The the sacrament. And it was It it it was it really got to my heart at that time.

And then They went to church again Sunday. Sunday night, but I stayed home. And um in in the bathroom I was reading the uh What what that What do you call it? A a pamphlet? Yeah, a track.

Track, yeah. And I was reading the track. And um I started crying. And I just said, dear Lord is considered. Yeah, and uh When they came back from church they they recognized a big smile on my face and a big change and I was happy and I was about twelve or thirteen.

Yeah, it was a comment. It's so great. Had you actually taken communion that morning? Yes, I did, but I didn't I just didn't know what to do. I know.

You just didn't know what you didn't know, right? Yeah, right. And I was I was just following what they were doing. No? And then I said, you know, I really needed to be saved before I did that.

And I understood all that later. Yeah. No. And so did my parents. And uh you know, I talked to him about it afterwards.

And yeah, just we just learned. I just we just learned what what it was all about and You know, you I was a Baby, I guess. Yeah. Yeah, well I it's you know The beautiful thing is God used it all to touch your heart. Right.

Yeah, yeah, and and And it really is special to me again. Because I was saved after that. And then You know, and then on Christmas Eve Yeah, if we uh have we have that uh you know, at communion. And then it's my dad's birthday and I it just It's just really humbling to think. You know, it is.

You know, it's fascinating you say that, Mike, because I can remember. You know, when I was a kid Right, wa th they would take communion but it didn't mean anything to me because i had no idea and i would rarely i mean my family rarely rarely rarely went to church And of course, I had no clue what all that was. Um no clue. But after I understood, after I actually received Christ and actually I had the gift of salvation, how exciting it was. Like, oh my goodness, I get to do this for real now.

Right. Like I did it, you know, just in total ignorance before. Oh well. Prior to that, we were Catholic, and we would go and have communion. And every Sunday.

And it really didn't mean anything. The you know, the uh the father said, pick out your tongue, and I really did just pick out the tongue. That's all. Like you just give it to me. You know?

And it didn't really mean anything. I was. I didn't understand at all. And then when we went to this this um yeah about the scourge. Um it really started this.

he how he preached on the the whole whole thing. It really got to my heart. And so Wow. And so was when When you went that morning, w were your parents already saved? The mil uh well, yeah, I guess they were.

And um but they still didn't know what the union was all about. Yeah, but they They understood when they were done, but they went ahead and let me take it, but I didn't. But they were looking at me like. Are you gonna take it? And I went ahead and took it, you know.

And um but But then it kinda got into my heart about, you know, I'm not really saved. And so that really convicted me, I guess. Yeah. That's a fascinating story, right? And so, your parents really weren't in a position to say, hey, Mike, you don't need it.

Because you'd been going to Catholic Church all those years, they didn't know. Right? Right, they didn't know. Right. And so they were just saying, like, this is kind of a fascinating aspect to the story: like, just do what they do, man.

Just follow the. Follow the routine. Right. But the pastor there, he explained it all. You know, you really should be saved, and this is why, and this is a sacred thing.

And so I can get the picture just clearly now that every time, every time, right, that you would take it. on Christmas Eve. It's your dad's birthday. It's a r it's a remembrance how you came from this essentially place of works. That you're going to get it.

figured out to this new place. That's just beautiful, man. I just I I love that story. Um Do do you still go to that same church? No, I don't.

But Uh we we we kind of went to different churches as I grew up. As older I got, and then I went in the Marine Corps. And then they went to a different church while I was in the Marine Corps. But then the my mom and dad have been at this for about thirty years now.

So, yeah. And so you guys still This coming Christmas song. I'm I'm going there now with my mom. In my f in my whole family. Yeah, so Yeah.

Your dad passed a couple of years ago? Yeah, about six years ago. Oh, it was six. Wow. Yeah, mine too.

I get that. Yeah, so What do you think about, Mike, when you Take the elements. I I really examine my heart. And and say the god um What do you need to do to me? You know, God, where where do I need it?

It it can pass. And um usually it's right away. It's not it doesn't take very long. Yeah, it is only current does this, this and this. And I'm like, okay, I'm good man.

I'm so sorry. Wow, wow.

Well, thank you for your call so much. My God bless you and Dayton, that means the world to me.

Well, up next. Wow, we've got Money Monday coming with David Fisher. We're going to be talking about... Psalm 3721, so you can find out what that is. And of course, if you feel like you've got something you want to share, you by all means call us 866-348-7884.
