November is National Family Caregivers Month. One in four Americans is stepping up to help older loved ones with everything from meals to bills. Family caregivers spend thousands out of their own pockets each year, and too many have to quit their jobs to keep providing care. Working families can't afford to wait. It's time to care for America's caregivers.

Well, hello everybody. Hope you're doing well. Happy Thursday to you. We have a lot going on today, and wow, who would have thought that the Republican gubernatorial primary here in Tennessee was going to explode onto the national scene? But it did, and it is going to be wild.
A lot of fireworks yesterday involving Senator Marcia Blackburn and Congressman John Rose. There are national implications as well, and we're going to get into all of that in just a moment. Our good buddy Randy Hutchison from the Veter Business Bureau drops by a little bit later on. Also, we're going to have an exclusive conversation with some students that are fighting back on campus against the radical left. And it's going to be a great, great talk.
You're going to want to stick around for that later in the show. Also, a young lady is trying to start a Jesus club. At her high school, and she was told that Jesus is not inclusive enough.
So, we'll tell you all about that. Our friends at the American Center for Law and Justice are involved in all of that. Just a couple of housekeeping notes as we're kicking off the day here in Starnes Country, the beautiful principal to go to Memphis studio tonight at the VFW Hall in Collierville is that huge celebration, the grassroots campaign kickoff for State Senator Brent Taylor. And we want you to come and be a part of it. Doors open at 6.
The event starts at 7 o'clock. And I honestly, I think every person in the Mid-South needs to be there. If nothing else, just to shake the senator's hand and to thank him for making Memphis matter again. And this is one of those rare moments when I think it's good to get the wife and the kids and the car and head on over to Collierville and say thank you to Senator Taylor for the great work he is doing. By the way, our telephone number is 901-260-5926.
If you want to weigh in, if you want to call in on the line today and offer your thoughts. But I want to start out with this insane thing that happened. Last night.
So the House of Representatives late into the evening finally passed what we thought was a clean CR, but it turned out not to be a clean CR. And the reason why is going to enrage you because it basically affirms the fact that you can't trust anybody up on Capitol Hill. You really just can't. Everybody's out for their own interest. Nobody's looking out for the well-being of the average American citizen.
And I find that to be really disgusting.
Now, I'm. I got a text message from one of our listeners in Bartlett. Todd, you're in a mood this week. No, I'm not in a mood this week. I just get frustrated when our elected leaders do not follow through on their campaign promises.
That's all. And it bothers me because so many of you, you tune into KWAM and you listen to these lawmakers and they talk the good talk. But when they get to Capitol Hill, well, it's like they're different people. And that bothers me. It bothers me because they are not being honest with you, the great people of West Tennessee.
And that really enrages me. And on the national show, it's even worse because it's like national ones go.
So I have much more rage.
So, anyway, let me explain what happened. This was supposed to be a clean CR, all right? And that was the whole point of that, was the main argument of the Republican Party is that the Democrats wanted to add all this garbage. Remember, the Democrats wanted to fund health care for illegal aliens, NPR, PBS, all of that kind of nonsense. And the Republicans said no.
The Republicans took the high ground, the moral high ground.
So, when they finally sent over the continuing resolution to reopen the government so our poor friend Ben Dieter can get a paycheck, when they finally did that, it turns out that somebody discovered that Senate Republicans had put in a poison pill. A poison pill And this poison pill would have allowed any senator who was spied on by the FBI during the J Six investigation, it would have allowed them to sue the government And collect Well, over a half a million dollars in penalties. That money, by the way, coming out of your bank account, that's your money. That's your money. And a lot of folks are really upset about this.
Because here's the issue. The way the... The poison pill was crafted. It prevented, it only allowed senators to do it.
So, only senators who were spied on, no members of the House could sue. By the way, you can't sue. Do you know that you are not allowed to sue a sitting member of Congress? You can't do that. But the senators decided, you know what, we are we're going to we're going to do something different.
We're going to put a carve out that will allow us to basically collect hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars. And when members of the House found out about this, they just went bonkers. And one of the individuals, and by the way, we're gonna tell you the list of the the senators. One of them was well, both of our senators. Marsha Blackburn and Bill Haggerty supported this.
And Congressman John Rose, who's running against Marsha Blackburn, was really upset about this, and he took to the floor of the House yesterday. And I want you to hear what Congressman Rose had to say about the actions of the Republicans in the Senate. Cut six, please. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to oppose the Senate's provision that allows senators to make financial gain off illegal government surveillance.
Three things can be true at once, Mr. Speaker. The first truth is this: the shutdown has to end. The American people and countless Tennesseans I represent. Uh Are suffering and experiencing real pain.
This record-breaking Schumer Democratic shutdown was completely avoidable, and it was completely carried out for political purposes. The second truth is that the last administration, led by Joe Biden and his auto pen, unfairly surveilled conservatives and conservative members of Congress. That included sitting United States Senators. Yet, Mr. Speaker, the third thing I would note is that the American taxpayer has suffered enough because of the last administration.
No one in this body should support allowing senators to sue and collect from taxpayers because the FBI went rogue under President Biden. But don't get me wrong, the overreach is more than troubling. It's unfathomable that the Department of Justice was weaponized in this way. I fully support holding those radical agents accountable and the ongoing investigations into their misdeeds. Yet no elected official should profit from the political calculation of left-wing bureaucrats and judges.
Mr. Speaker, the folks I represent are still reeling from historic Bidenflation, the effects of the border crisis, and the regulatory agenda of the last administration. It is shameful to ask them to shoulder the burden of paying U.S. senators a half a million dollars or more for those misdeeds. With that, I yield back, Mr.
Speaker. Wow. I didn't even know John Rose could yell or talk at that level. That was insane. He was very upset, and rightfully so.
And again, Senator Blackburn and Senator Haggerty would have been eligible to sue. And as. As Congressman Rose wrote, and he later was talking about Marshall Blackburn, that was all about Senator Blackburn there. He said on his X feed, I am asking Senator Blackburn to reconsider suing you, the taxpayer, for the politically driven and wrong actions of the Biden DOJ doesn't fix anything. It only makes U.S.
senators richer. That's why I filed a bill to immediately undo this money grab that somehow snuck into the Senate version of the funding bill.
Well, I'm glad that the congressman saw this and took and is demanding that it be taken out because, again, the Senate Republicans ceded the moral high ground here. Who in their right mind thought this was a good idea? This is nothing but dirty DC politics, ladies and gentlemen, and it's unacceptable.
Now, we're waiting to hear back from the Blackburn Senate office. I will tell you that right now, hundreds of people are posting messages on our social media feeds, and just about 90% of them, maybe even 95%, people are very upset about this.
So, again, yes, it was absolutely wrong what the Biden administration did, but the question is: why are you carving out something that will only enrich senators? And why is it that because there were plenty of regular Joes that were spied on by the FBI, they're not allowed to sue? Members of the House of Representatives would not be allowed to sue, but under this provision, U. S. Senators would be.
Do you think that is fair, ladies and gentlemen? What say you? By the way, Speaker, Mike Johnson, enraged over all of this, cut number five. Questions, yes. You said earlier that you would repeal that FBI provision that's in the bill right now.
Do you have assurances from Leader Thune that he will bring it up in the Senate?
Well, I did call Leader Thune this morning. I want to say that he is a principled leader. I've enjoyed working with him. We've had a great working relationship and a good friendship. He's a trustworthy, honest broker.
And that's why I was so surprised when we found out about that provision. It was put in our Clean CR at the last moment. I'm just to be honest, I'm very transparent with you all. I was very angry about it. I was.
And a lot of my members called me and said, did you know about it? We had no idea. That was dropped in at the last minute. And I did not appreciate that, nor did most of the House members. Many of them are very angry about that.
So we will be bringing that up. We'll probably pass it on suspension early next week, and we'll send it over to the Senate. I had a conversation with Leader. Leader Thrun early this morning about it. I think he regretted the way it was done, and we had an honest conversation about that.
I didn't ask him for any commitment at that time because I had a lot on my plate today, and I've been busy ever since that conversation we had early this morning. But I'm going to speak as truthfully to him as I am to all of you and tell you that I think that was way out of line. I don't I don't think that was a smart thing to do. I don't think it was the right thing to do. And the House is going to reverse it.
We're going to repeal that. And I'm going to expect our colleagues in the Senate to do the same thing. I just got a text from someone in West Memphis. Todd, you said the Speaker was angry. Yeah, that is his angry voice.
I'm really angry at you, John Thone. I'm angry. I'm I I can you see I've got a blood vessel, it's about to pop. John the own Yeah, that's how he that's angry.
Okay, come on. I cut him a little bit of slack, people.
So, all that to say, how about John Rose? That is some, you heard some honest to goodness, righteous indignation there on the House floor, and I like that. But here's the broader question. Anybody reading the stuff? Any of these people that we send up to Washington, are they actually reading the legislation they're voting on?
You talk about this thing being snuck in. How did they get snuck in? And by the way, what else did they sneak in?
Now that's the one thing that's the one problem I have here in Washington with both political parties is they're always sneaking stuff in and they're never reading stuff before they vote on it. Never, ever. What are they doing? Here's a thought. You know what?
We appreciate you marching in the Piccadilly parades and the duck march and whatever. I got no problem with that. But if you're having to choose between marching in the, I don't know, Kumquat parade in Bucksnort, Tennessee, or reading legislation that's going to impact every American, why don't you take a pass on the Kumquat parade? That's all I'm saying. All right, as we go to break, tomorrow we are hosting the entire show from Dale's, which is one of the quintessential restaurants in South Haven.
It is a wonderful place. We're doing the entire show there. And we're going to be, I'm going to be buying some of you people breakfast. We've got a trivia question on the table right now. There was a.
there was a department store. It was known as the greatest department store in Memphis. And it was around for generations, generations, this department store, known as the greatest department store in Memphis. It was bought out in the early 2000s.
So, the whole name, everything got wiped away. But many of you remember this particular department store for their Christmas time decorations, for all of the great food they had there in their restaurants and cafes, and of course, the shopping experience at the store that was once promoted as the greatest in Memphis. Can you name this store? that had the enchanted forest Our telephone number, 901-260-5926. That's 901-260-5926.
The winner, I'm buying your breakfast tomorrow at Dale's. Let's check in with Commander Jock. Tired of giving away all your rental profits to a property manager? You don't have to. Over 800,000 landlords use TurboTenant to find and manage tenants.

You're going to love it. There's so much great stuff happening over in South Haven. By the way, I got a note from our dear friend Becky Dingtal over at our favorite candy shop. And starting today through Saturday, this is going to be huge. A sweet holiday weekend.
You're going to be able to get 20% off all of your purchases over at Dingtal's. That's going to be pretty epic. And again, that starts today at their Laurelwood, Germantown, Collierville, Pleasant View, and downtown locations all the way through Saturday. Yours truly loves the Cashew Crunch. Just want to throw that out there.
All right, let's go right to the phone lines and say hello to Susan in Cordova. Hi, Susan. Susan, how are you today? I'm fine. Good morning.
Good morning. We're going to try to help you win a prize here. What was the name of the department store known as Memphis' Greatest Store? Was it Goldberg? Oh, no, no, no, no.
Susan. Oh, good try. Good try. But thank you for calling. And well, let's go to Jim now.
Let's go to Jim in Collierville. All right, Jim. Poor Susan. That was a close guess. But what was the name of Memphis' greatest department store?
I'm sorry, Tim. I I feel sorry too. That that's gold Goldsmith. Uh yes, uh that is correct, but you got the name of the host wrong. That would be Todd.
Yeah.
Alright. Jim, congratulations. Have you been to Dales before? We used to go there quite a bit when we were in high school, and it was a little berry bar.
Well, it is the new owner, Jim Lesapio, and they have completely read all the favorites are there, but it's delicious food. And they've really, I've heard nothing but rave reviews. And I've eaten there a time or two or three. And I can tell you, if you're down tomorrow for the morning show, we're going to provide you breakfast on me. And I'm telling you, Jim, you are going to love it.
So congratulations, Jim. Let's put him on a hold and we'll get all of his particulars. And we appreciate Jim and Susan listening to the morning show. You're going to have a chance to win another prize in just a few moments. Again, 901-260-5926 is our telephone number.
That's 901-260-5926. So President Trump yesterday had a message. For the American people, the president making some comments last night, cut number three. They didn't want to do it the easy way, they had to do it the hard way. And they look very bad, the Democrats do.
They deprived more than one million government workers from their paychecks and cut off food stamp benefits for millions and millions more Americans in need. They caused tens of thousands of federal contractors and small businesses to go unpaid, and the total effect of the damage their antics cause will take weeks and probably months to really calculate accurately. including the serious harm that they did to our economy and to people and to families.
So I just want to Tell the American people you should not forget this. When we come up to midterms and other things, don't forget what they've done to our country. Yeah, and we certainly appreciate the president saying that.
Okay, look, this story out of the Daily Memphian, it's their lead story. And it turns out that the Memphis Safe Task Force is actually doing their job, and they're arresting people who are breaking the law. And that includes illegal immigrants.
So the Daily Memphian, and this is written by Aaron Fleming. This is their lead story. And apparently, they dispatched a Daily Memphian reporter to the scene of a traffic stop. And federal agents arrested a woman who did not have legal immigration status. That's what they call it.
She was an illegal. She also had a suspended driver's license plate. How do you, first of all, how do you get a driver's license if you're an illegal in the state of Tennessee? That makes absolutely no sense. Daily Memphis, that did not seem to bother them.
It didn't seem to strike their curiosity at all.
So then they go on to talk about how ICE agents used tear gas inside a home where two where ten-month-old twin boys were located.
Well, there were also multiple people in that house. This happened on Macon Road, where there was an ICE raid.
Now, the Daily Memphia doesn't go into any details about why they were conducting a raid, but they would have you believe that and the way this was written, they would just have you believe that ICE agents are going around tear gassing little babies in Memphis. And that's a load of crap, ladies and gentlemen. It's not even hooey, it is crap. And shame on the Daily Memphian. You know, we look, I know the Republicans love getting interviewed and having their stuff published in this piece of garbage, but the problem is you're aiding and abetting their far left mission when you do that.
I don't get these people. They clearly have a problem with Memphis and a safe Memphis, and all they care about are restaurants and illegals. And not necessarily in that order. Anyway, shame on the daily Memphian. We stand with the Memphis Safe Task Force on this radio station.
901-260-5926, our number. This is Starnes Country and the principal to go to Memphis studio. Tired of giving away all your rental profits to a property manager? You don't have to. Over 800,000 landlords use TurboTenant to find and manage tenants.

And if you win, I'm buying you breakfast tomorrow at Dale's for our live remote. Going back to the Andy Griffith show, that seems to be the sweet spot of this radio station.
Aunt B, one of the best cooks in all of Mayberry, but there was one thing that she just did not do a good job of making. What was that one item? And if you know the answer, give us a call. I'll buy you breakfast 901-260-5926. That's 901-260-5926.
Randy Hutchison from the Better Business Bureau, you're not allowed to answer that question. I don't know the answer. You don't know the answer. That's a threat. Oh, my.
Although I do remember the show, certainly. Great show back in the day. Randy, good to have you with us and great to be back with you. We've got to talk about Bitcoin ATMs. This whole Bitcoin thing, it freaks me out.
I'm just a regular Joe here. But the FTC says a lot of people are getting caught up in fraud because of these Bitcoin ATMs.
So, first, let's set the stage here. What are Bitcoin ATMs?
Well, let me say first, there's a lot of investment scams. Regarding trading in Bitcoin, that's not specifically what we're talking about here. But Bitcoin ATMs, they look like regular ATMs. They're often located in convenience stores. I actually, on my way here, I googled Bitcoin ATMs near me, and there were like 10 to 12 locations, just however, I don't know how far near me measures, but pretty close.
Instead of distributing cash, they allow users to buy or sell Bitcoin cryptocurrency. And here's the key: they can be used to make purchases or payments in Bitcoin. Scammers like to get paid in Bitcoin because it's almost impossible for victims to recover the money once it's been sent.
So, what are some examples of the scams that are involved here? Most involve most Bitcoin ATMs. By the way, Bitcoin ATMs themselves are legitimate machines, but they're being abused by the crooks in some cases. Most of the scams involve government impersonators who call, create a sense of urgency by saying the victim's money is at risk or the victim has been tied to money laundering or there's some other problem. They convince the victims to pay a fine or to protect their money.
by depositing it into a Bitcoin ATM. Once the victim scans a QR code, That's provided by the scammer at the machine. The money goes straight to the scammer's crypto account. One example, A 75-year-old Ohio woman got a pop-up message on her computer saying there was fraudulent activity on her husband's bank account. She needed to move the money immediately to prevent it from being stolen.
She transferred $280,000 in multiple transactions through a Bitcoin ATM to someone she thought was probably a security officer at a bank or a government agent to protect her money. In this case, interestingly, police were able to recover about $130,000, but rarely do you get your money back. Another example closer to home, one of my golfing buddies, his sister, elderly lady, got a call, I think, and told she'd been missed jury duty or something, and she was in trouble and she needed to pay a fine, and she was convinced to go to a local. Bitcoin ATM and transfer $5,000 to what she thought was a court clerk, was obviously a crook.
So, first of all, we've established that Bitcoin ATMs are authentic. They're the real deal. You've just got to watch out for these scammers. What's some advice that you guys have at the BBB to avoid becoming a victim of these scams? And some of this advice applies to many of the scams that we talk about.
But if someone calls you and says you need to use a Bitcoin ATM to protect your money, to fix a problem, to pay a fine, it is almost certainly a scam. Real businesses and government agencies, first of all, in most cases, they're not going to call you with that kind of threat. And second, they're not going to say to pay whatever it is using a Bitcoin ATM. Never send money in response to an unexpected, threatening call or message. Of course, many of these play on people's emotions and they just aren't thinking clearly.
Uh and then if you get a call or you get a message, a text message, an email purportedly from your bank, purportedly from some government agency that says there's a real problem with one of your accounts and you think it might be legit, Use a phone number, website or app you know is real to contact the bank, the investment company, the government. Don't use contact information in the message. That'll just take you right back to the crooks. And just again, slow down. As I say many times, so many scams rely on people's emotions.
Frankly, get down in front of their common sense. Randy Hutchinson is one of the most important people we have on the radio station because he and the great team at Better Business Bureau are providing important information to keep you and your money safe. And that's what this segment is all about. And, Randy, we just appreciate the great work you guys do. Thank you.

We have Mavis in Midtown. Mavis, how are things going in Midtown today? As far as I can tell, going very, very well.
Well, I'm glad to hear that, Mavis. Do you use the Bitcoin by any chance, Mavis? No, I do not.
Well, I'm still a regular dollar bill guy. I totally do not understand it. It's okay. It's okay. Mavis, I'm going to try to help you eat breakfast tomorrow on me.
How's that? We've got to get the trivia question, right? We're talking about Ampy, one of the finest cooks in Mayberry, but there was one thing that she just was not good at. What was that? I I wasn't sure, but I said pickles.
Uh yes, well done you Mavis congratulations Yeah, yeah, yeah. Mavis, you are the winner. And tomorrow, if you make it down to Dale's during our morning show, I'm going to buy you breakfast. And let me tell you something: they have great food down at Dale's in South Haven, owned by our good buddy Jim Lesapio.

Keep your 10% and sign up for free at turbotenant.com. Mayhem, at the University of California, Berkeley, last night, a violent mob laid siege to a Turning Point USA event. Fights broke out. At least four people were arrested.
Some described the scene as a war zone. Everybody. You're dead, bro. No, no. That will be your turn.
You're dead. Yeah, that homie they're referring to, Charlie Kirk. Conservative students were spit on. The mob hurled bottles, lit fireworks. They also fired off tear gas canisters.
And take a look at this: the mob of protesters swarming this man simply for sharing his Christian faith and giving out TPUSA shirts. One protester proceeds to dump the shirts on the ground and trample on them, another jumping the man, leaving him dripping in blood.
Meanwhile, the mainstream media took a look at the images that you're watching right now here on Newsmax, and they said. Mostly peaceful protest.
Well, late word this afternoon that the Justice Department has launched an investigation into what happened. Assistant Attorney General Harmie Dillon posting this message on X at America, we do not allow citizens to be attacked by violent thugs and shrug and turn our backs. Been there, done that, not on our watch. And Attorney General Pam Bondi posting this message on X as well. Antifa is an existential threat to our nation.
The violent riots at UC Berkeley last night are under full investigation by the FBI-led Joint Terrorism Task Force. We will continue to spare no expense unmasking all who commit and orchestrate acts of political violence. Under President Trump's leadership and pursuant to his executive order designating Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization, the Department of Justice and our law enforcement partners are dismantling violent networks that seek to intimidate Americans. And suppress their free expression and First Amendment rights.
Well, joining me now to discuss what happened last night is the TPUSA chapter president at UC Berkeley, John Paul Leon. John Paul, good to have you with us. I want you to walk us through your reaction to what you saw happen at your school last night. Yes, it was absolutely insane, just pure chaos going around. And luckily, we did have security and law enforcement, so we were safe inside of the building, but the perimeter outside of Zellerbach Hall, not so much.
People were definitely very afraid. Of course, you mentioned things such as the tear gas as the fireworks. And just so you know, fireworks kind of sound a lot like gunshots. And yesterday was the two-month anniversary of the assassination of Charlie Kirk. And when conservative, young conservative students hear the sound of what they think is guns, the first thing that comes to their mind is that there is a shootout going on right now.
And they were just fleeing as far away as they could. There are people who are running away, people who said they had to evacuate. It was just completely crazy. And I know there was lots of violence that broke out. And it was just completely unbelievable that the man, Charlie Kirk, a great father and husband, was shot and killed.
And this is the response that we see. What I find very impressive is that, in spite of all of that happening, you guys decided, you know what? We're going to do this. We're standing our ground. Why is it that you decided to follow through?
You delivered some pretty powerful remarks last night. Were you concerned about your own safety? Yes, we know that fear is infectious, but courage can be contagious too, as well. I know Vivek Ramaswamy said that one time, and he is someone who definitely appeals to us young people. And that is a phrase that keeps playing in my head multiple times over and over again.
Because when you think about the core of what that means, it's really true that we see all these threats to our livelihood. We see the backlash, and we know that our ideas are true. When you start fighting with force and violence, you have lost the battle. That's why I will always uphold to maintain my ideas through reason, truth, and logic. And if you can't fight me on that terms, then maybe you shouldn't fight me at all.
Maybe you should consider your own beliefs and you should probably change your mind instead of just dubbing us fascists because it feels good.
So we definitely feel that it is upon ourselves to stand up for what we know is right and to continue fighting and to continue giving conservatives a space on our campus. It's bold, man, and it's pretty. Darn courageous. What was it, Bonhoeffer said? I know you're a person of faith.
Silence in the face of evil is evil itself. Not to speak is to speak, not to act is to act, but you're standing up and you're taking a stand here. Good on you. I am curious, though. The university, have you heard anything from university administrators about what happened last night?
I personally have not heard much from university administrators at all. The only thing that I've heard is that we will have a debrief sometime down the line of the future for the event. But as far as concerns about safety and protesters, I have not heard anything that the university has made. No one has talked to me directly about protesters, about what could be done in the future to prevent things like this from happening. Of course, we were very safe inside of the venue, but as I mentioned, around the venue was not so much.
And so it was definitely a case where I'm. Eager to kind of like hear more what the university has to say if the university is interested in protecting conservative students. I know that pro-Palestine movements in the past have broken windows and broken inside of the building that we were holding our event at. And so as such, We know that the campus is very much within the interest of defending their property. But are they in the interest of defending the conservative students on our campus?
And we'll just have to see if that is true. And we'll have to see what the future has to hold and what the university has to offer in terms of maintaining security amongst our students. You know, it really is ironic, John Paul. That university was the birthplace of the so-called free speech movement. And here they are trying to silence conservatives at Berkeley.
We're not going to let that happen. And it certainly sounds like you're not going to let that happen. I want you to let us know. Anything we can do to help here at Newsmax, we'll do it. God be with you.
And thank you for the courageous stand you're taking. Thank you. God bless you.
Well, Jesus is not welcome in a New York high school because educators say our Lord is not inclusive. Kennedy Canalis is a student at Plattsburgh Senior High School, and she petitioned leadership to start a Jesus club. School leaders signed off on another student secular club, but the Jesus Club was rejected. Kennedy was told the Jesus Club was not inclusive, so they recommended a more generic name like the Faith Club. The notion that Jesus is not inclusive is simply not true.
I mean, the Bible clearly quotes our Lord as offering a personal invitation to everyone. Come unto me, all who are weary and burdened, I will give you rest.
Well, the American Center for Law and Justice, now representing Kennedy and attorney Nathan Molker, joins us. Nathan, good to have you this evening. This is the craziest story I've heard.
So, Jesus Club is not inclusive. Yeah, school administrators told our client that, sorry, we don't like the name Jesus Club. Students won't feel welcome when they hear that name.
So instead, why don't you think of a different name and come back to us, and then maybe we can approve your club. And the sad thing is, This situation is not in any way unusual. We're dealing with multiple schools across the country that are doing similar things, telling students their Christian clubs aren't inclusive enough. We had another case actually also in New York recently where students were ordered to tear down their Christian posters because they had a cross on them.
So school administrators are becoming more and more free to try to silence Christian clubs and that is not the law and it's not acceptable.
So I understand the family actually tried to talk with school leaders but got nowhere.
So what are you guys doing in response to that? Yeah, so this poor family went through months and months and months of just trying to get a Christian club off the ground. Just a simple Christian club.
So this actually started all the way back in February when they began the process. Kennedy joined this school and they said, okay, we want to start a Christian club. And they were told, sorry, it's too late in the year.
Now they've come back this fall and they've had to go through multiple delays. Kennedy's had to make multiple presentations to different school officials to explain what the club is and what it's for. Multiple meetings time and time again.
So we sent a legal letter on behalf of Kennedy and her family last week. We sent it this past Thursday and it's Wednesday now. And so what we gave the school district to is till tomorrow, till Thursday, to try to resolve this situation. And so the school district has actually gotten back to us. They've informed us that they that they're having a school board meeting tomorrow.
So if we don't see really meaningful resolution tomorrow, I'd anticipate that this school district is going to be facing us in court, frankly, because they've just delayed and delayed and said this really is kind of their last chance to make this right. All right, and so let me see if I understand this because there is something called the Equal Access Act.
So if you've got a secular club on campus, you've got to have a Christian club on campus as well. You can't deny one and have the other. Is that right? Yeah, that's exactly it.
So in the Equal Access Act Congress codified A rule that pretty much matches with what the First Amendment requires, too, which is that if schools allow student clubs, Schools don't necessarily have to have student clubs, but if they do, They can't discriminate against the religious clubs, frankly against the Christian clubs. What schools must not do is have one set of rules for Christian clubs and one set of rules for non-Christian clubs.
So we see that sometimes with schools just banning Christian clubs, right? But other times schools do the kinds of things they do here. where there's one set of rules if you want to start a club. And it's a knitting club or a circle club or a chess club or whatever, then we'll approve you quickly. And oh, that sounds great.
And go right ahead. But if you want a Christian club, you're gonna have to jump through more hoops. You're gonna have to go through more approvals. You're gonna have to greet. That music means we've got to scoot out of here.
