The deployment of the National Guard to Memphis has sparked controversy and debate, with some arguing it's necessary to combat crime, while others see it as an overreach of federal power. Meanwhile, a street-naming controversy in Hernando has raised questions about the city's values and the role of conservative figures like Charlie Kirk.

At North Carolina's Crystal Coast, you might have the same vacation plans, hit the beach, find some good seafood, but when there's actually room to roam and space to spread out, the feeling is much different. Visit crystalcoastnc.com slash booking today. From the Mighty 990 Broadcast Center, you're waking up in Starnes Country with Todd Starns. Yeah, hello everybody. Welcome to Strange Country here on the Mighty 990 1079 FM in the principal Toyota Memphis studio.

Hope you guys are doing great today. What a beautiful day across the Mid-South and it is going to be another hot one today. Laura Huckabee coming up with your forecast. And I have to tell you, yesterday, I've been trying to trim down a little bit.

So went over to Shelby Farms after the Newsmax show. And I didn't even have time to take off the TV makeup. Ladies, I don't know how you do it. I really don't. God love you.

But I'm over there and I'm sweating like crazy. And I do I love doing the uh the the loop around the promenade there. And so, anyway, I'm having a good time. You know how you try to get your, you got to get your pulse rate up. But every few minutes, I would run into somebody who listens to K-Ram.

So you have to stop and you have to fellowship, as we say down here in Dixie. But this guy comes just whizzing by on a bike and turns around and starts waving. And I'm like, who is that? Because he had the helmet on and the whole bike gear. It turned out it was our good buddy Joey Selepec.

Joey and Mrs. Selepec out for a good so he whips around and drops by to say hello. And we had a good time.

So, anyway, great to see all of you folks over at Shelby Farms getting in some exercise last night. But it was mighty hot. That was what I was getting at there. All right, we've got a great show for you today. Senator Marsha Blackburn is going to drop by.

And we're also going to be talking about this crazy story out of Hernando, where last night the board of aldermen. Which is like there are seven Republicans on the I believe it's an eight-member board, seven Republicans, and they rejected a move to name a street after Charlie Kirk. And some of the vitriol coming from the citizens of Hernando, it's sort of like, I don't know, Hernando is becoming the Cooper Young District of Mississippi. I've never seen anything like this.

So we're going to be talking to someone who's in the know. That's coming up today as well. We also, last night on my Newsmax show, We had a nationally televised debate between State Senator Brent Taylor and Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris.

Now, this is unusual because Lee Harris does not pop up for interviews much at all, but it was a fascinating interview, and I really feel like that ought to be the starting point for the conversation this morning. Let's take a listen to our big national debate that was held exclusively on the Todd Stern Show. Mr. Mayor, I want to start with you. Thank you for joining us tonight.

I got to ask you, I noticed you were conspicuously absent from the Oval Office yesterday. Did you get an invitation? Did it get lost in the mail?

Well, thanks for having me, Todd. No, I wasn't invited there, but I was invited on your show. I've been listening to you for many years, and although I don't agree with you, I'm still honored to be here. But no, no invitation to the White House yet.

Well, you said, Mr. Mayor, and we do appreciate you coming on today. You said the president's decision is anti-American, and I was. wondering what you what you meant by that.

Well, Todd, as we sit here on the eve of September 17th, which celebrates the 230th, 38th anniversary of the Constitution, I think we're all reminded of what's important in America, and that's our constitutional rights and the democracy that's so great and celebrated around the world. And so it's not consistent with my view of that democratic tradition to have armored vehicles in an American city, checkpoints, folks with semi-automatic weapons, and military fatigues marching around. That feels anti-American to me. And so I don't think any of us who are officials, whether you're in the Tennessee Senate or if you're Bill Lee, should want that on our legacy that we invited. Folks, federal officials, to deploy military personnel to our state, the first state in the South.

To have a military occupation. That's not a good day, Todd. But again, Senator, in response to the county mayor there, it's not the first time that the National Guard has actually been deployed to southern states, is it? It's not. I mean, as we had discussed before, Todd, we saw the same type of deployment in the 1960s when the National Guard was sent in to protect the civil rights of African Americans.

And fast forward to today, I think the way to view this is that the National Guard is coming in to protect the rights of Memphians, the rights of Memphians to be able to enjoy their homes, to enjoy their property, to be able to go shop in our stores and eat in our restaurants, and to really move about the city in a city that we all love. And what's more concerning to me than the National Guard having automatic or semi-automatic weapons are the criminals who are actually on the streets with semi-automatic and automatic weapons. That's what concerns me. And quite frankly, with all due respect to my friend Mayor Harris, Perhaps the National Guard wouldn't have had to be here if Mayor Harris hadn't defunded the police. And it was through salary petitions and salary restrictions trying to take money from the Sheriff's Office budget to balance the county's budget.

And I had to pass Senate Bill 275 in an effort to try to stop the mayor from defunding the police. If he hadn't defunded the police, perhaps we wouldn't have had to have the National Guard in members to begin with. Senator, I've got to bring the mayor in so he can respond to that. Mr. Mayor.

Well, one of the reasons why we're in such a bad state of affairs right now is because we can't have a real conversation with State officials. We have a proliferation of guns in Memphis and Shelby County, and that begets most of the violence. And one of the reasons why there's such a proliferation of guns is the Tennessee legislature and Governor Lee have decided to pass constitutional carry, permanent carry, which is basically guns on street corners.

So we've got guns on street corners, which is legal here. We've got guns in cars. And as a result, there are young folks every day that are checking your door to see if it's unlocked and breaking in the cars, stealing those guns, and putting them in the criminal stream. That puts all of us in danger. And we're hopeful that at some point we can engage in a real conversation around the needs here in Tennessee with our state partners and get a little help.

At the same time, the Trump administration has cut our funding for gun violence interventionists. And that was a program that was working. The Biden administration moved the FBI office out of Memphis and Shelby County and moved it elsewhere in Tennessee. We need those FBI agents back. We need that FBI field office back.

So those are some of the ways that we could see partnership. But it's unlikely that the National Guard and Military Forces is going to help reduce crime. It's going to cause fear. And I don't want to see that in Tennessee. It's too great of a state to be occupied by military personnel.

Senator, is that true? Is that what you're hearing from your constituents, that people are scared, that they're fearful of the National Guard troops coming in? No, my constituents aren't fearful, and I don't believe many Memphians are. The only Memphians that are fearful about the National Guard coming into Memphis are those who are planning on breaking laws and engaging in criminal acts. And look, if the mayor wants to engage in constructive conversations, I would say that the press conference that he and the general sessions court clerk, Tammy Sawyer, had the other day was not helpful.

To talk about a military occupation. This isn't a military occupation. This is an investment, an investment of a lot of federal resources coming to Memphis, of which the National Guard is one component.

So, look, I welcome the collaboration from Mayor Harris and others, but those types of words that he and Tammy Sawyer had in their press conference are not helpful. And it only renders them as useless as a nutrition chart on a bag of ice. And I know that they want to be more engaged in that, but they have to do what they can to collaborate. And we need to make sure that Mayor Harris is in the tent pissing out rather than standing outside pissing in the tent. All right.

Well, aside from bodily functions here, Mr. Mayor, I am curious, though, about what the senator said. The General Sessions Court Clerk did have some pretty racially charged language talking about even Charlie Kirk and suggesting that he was a racist and talking about rural National Guard people that don't look like her, a black person. Was that kind of language really helpful, Mr. Mayor?

Well, I think the problem is we just don't have enough details, and so that's created a lot of tension, anxiety, and chaos. And so we heard from the president, he said he's going to deliver a big force, whatever that means. He said he's going to send the military, the National Guard, and whoever else, whatever that means. And we haven't heard from our governor in terms of answering tough questions around what the details of this deployment will be and what it looks like. And so, when you have that kind of chaos, when you have no answers from the governor, no press conferences whatsoever, you know, it does create an environment where people get upset and riled up.

And so, you hear statements like that.

So, hopefully, we'll get some more details. Hopefully, it's like the senator says that this will be productive, but it's hard for me to imagine how military personnel in Tennessee helps Tennesseans. All right, that was a bit of our conversation with Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris and also State Senator Brent Taylor. We're going to get your reaction to that. We asked the county mayor to condemn the racist remarks that were uttered by Tammy Sawyer at that press conference.

The mayor declined to do so. We gave him the opportunity on air to do that. Also, the mayor did not push back on the assertion. That Uh That he had the mayor had defunded the police.

So we have those elements as well. All right, we're going to take a quick break when we come back. The situation in Hernando, which is insane. But our question to you, the great listeners of the Mighty 990: do you support bringing in the National Guard? And what message do you want to send those guardsmen as they come into the Bluff City?

Our telephone number: 901-260-5926. That's 901-260-5926. Let's check in with Commander Chuck. He's taking a look at the roadways this morning. All right, 71 degrees outside White Station High School today, by the way.

Kudos to MLGW. Big substation fire, knocked out power, 11,000 customers.

So that's a lot of people, a lot of people without power for much of the day yesterday. We understand that just about everybody's been, their power has been restored. They haven't released any information on what caused that substation fire. We will keep you updated on that information.

Well, I just told you a few moments ago about the situation in Hernando. And I am just confused here. I thought North Mississippi was a bastion of conservatism. I had no idea that Hernando was becoming the Cooper Young of Mississippi.

Well, let's go to the Patriot Mobile newsmaker line, political activist John Williams joining us. And John, you alerted me to what happened. Give us an idea of what happened at this crazy alderman meeting. Yes, Todd.

Well, thanks for having me on.

So we started this a couple of days ago or over the weekend, I guess I should say. Alderman Kitchens, I want to give a shout out to him. He was the one that came up with this idea of renaming a road In Hernando in honor of Terry. Charlie Kirk. Uh we had originally uh We're going to propose a new section of road that runs in front.

of the new high school. Uh we thought that would be a Very fitting. tribute for Charlie, but uh There was some so many people were worried that that might incite um or encourage an attack on the schools.

So we changed the the road. But we do have a little contingent group of uh extreme uh radical uh Democrats down here. And uh they they are the ones that have been uh they're part of a group called Indivisible DeSoto Mystery. and they've been organizing the no kidding. protest in Hernando.

I don't think Hernando has been is coming a becoming a Cooper Young district. Uh in the last presidential election, nearly 90% of the Hernando precincts voted for For President Trump.

So, what happened here then? I mean, you guys clearly didn't have the Republican votes. What's going on? Yeah, so the room. was full of these uh no kings uh protester and uh you know or folks And we had, you know, a fair number of, um of us true conservatives there.

But we have a supermajority board Seven member boards, six of the seven Are Republicans and claim to be conservatives? And when it came time for Kit to make the motion, not one single alderman Even gave it a second. They did they wouldn't even vote on it. No one even gave it a second. And so You know, what what really happened is is, you know, this was a chance for our city's majority Republican board to honor.

This true American patriot. And instead of rising to a to the moment, uh they folded like cheek cheap suits and caved to the radical left and Turn their backs on the very values that they campaign on every election season. It's not rocket science, they just fold it. They're e they're either have no spine Yeah. They're not really Republicans.

They're they're they're rhinos and they're not true conservatives. I'm curious about the the crowd because I did watch some of the meeting and there was a pretty big crowd there.

So do you think the Republicans just caved to this this mob of leftists that showed up? I I do. because they're 'cause in fact, the people that were in that were there speaking would not vote in a general election, wouldn't vote for any of those aldermen. If they had an opponent, a Democratic opponent, those people that they were siding with would not vote for those sitting aldermen. Uh, and and the it just happened to be it's homecoming week in Hernando.

There's a lot of events going on and You might say normal people had stuff to do. And so we could, you know, we didn't have a big turnout of like-minded conservatives. Yeah. And they just folded to the room. John, I got to tell you, that's no excuse.

You know, I'm sorry. I agree. I don't care. I don't care what's going on.

Sometimes you got to set aside your activities, go down to City Hall, and raise a ruckus. And if you don't do that, you know, the other side's always going to do that.

So I'm really tired of our side of the aisle always throwing out these BS excuses. And that's what they are. John? I did notice that one of the arguments was that Charlie Kirk doesn't l did not live in Hernando. Therefore, we shouldn't name a street after him.

I can't help but notice that in twenty fifteen, Hernando actually renamed a street in in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. That's correct. And the ludicrous thing about that is there are high schools, government buildings. Road all over America that are named. You know, for Prominent figures in history, and they're not all good.

You know, good history is just as important to learn, or bad history is just as important to learn from as good history, rather.

so you remember what not to do. And so yes, he wasn't local, but neither was Martin Luther King Jr., neither was a ton of things named after citizens in every city that were not local to that city.

So I just I want to go back to the Republicans that you guys elect down there.

So were these guys did they just not like Charlie Kirk? Or were they just scared of the crowd? What's going on here? We're dealing with cowards. Uh ye That's my opinion.

I I can't speak for them personally. I would love to know the answer to that question also. Like you just said, there's no excuse for it. But yeah, I think they just folded to the room, to the group of people. that did not represent an accurate microcosm of the citizens of Hernando.

who voted overwhelmingly in support of Board of President Trump. Overwhelmingly supported renaming this. uh uh street if you base it off of you know social media. uh um likes and shares and comments but Uh Yeah, that The the left showed up at the meeting and the board simply came to the room is my opinion. Yeah.

Well, maybe they hated Charlie Kirk. I don't know. I can't speak for them. I would love to know the answer to that question. Yeah, I some of the excuses it was uh you know, and i th the the ignorance coming out of some of the uh citizens there about Charlie, it it's really sad that they have bought into the narrative coming out of the mainstream media.

Yeah. And you know, one lady was up there. talking about how offended she was uh and she Dope.

some quote that Charlie said, which was three seconds of a of a three-minute dialogue where he was given an example about Something, you know, saying, if I said this, would you feel any different? And he, you know, and he made some comment: if I said, you know, black people had lower IQs, what he was doing, it was part of a debate and totally taken out of context of what he said. And they use snippets like that. The media is great with doing that, the mainstream media. You know, they take a five-second snippet and try to turn it into something it's not.

And yeah, the people that were speaking there. We're obviously closed-minded. They've never listened, including Some of the aldermen. you know, admitted they had never even heard of Charlie Kirk until he was assassinated. And they've never taken the time to listen to his message.

And And what he means by or what he was about.

So look, yeah, John, we're the computer's going to cut us off here, but we're going to have to wrap it up.

Well, keep us updated. Are you guys going to try to reintroduce us or are we is is the issue dead now? We have a number of things that we're going to do. In fact, I had a developer call me after the meeting last night and said he had to go down to City Hall today to choose a name for a road and that he's building in a new commercial. development And he chose Charlie Kirkway.

So we're not done. We're gonna honor honored Charlie. All right, good stuff. John Williams, political activist. I love it.

John, thanks for keeping us informed here. Unbelievable, ladies and gentlemen. And that's the problem when you ha I'm telling you, I have no time or patience for these little woke, weak, weasel-Republicans. I just don't have time anymore. And we got too much to do as a country to put up with that nonsense.

All right, we've got to take a quick break here, folks. Senator Marcia Blackburn coming up. Also, we're throwing out trivia today. It's going to be a fun trivia question. Hang tight, everybody.

We also have news, traffic, and weather exclusively on the mighty 990. This is Starnes Country. DC politicians want to enact harmful credit card mandates that could take away your cash back and rewards points. Perks that stretch your budget and make life a little easier. Losing these benefits means less money for your family's everyday essentials like gas and groceries.

The perks you rely on could disappear, leaving you with higher costs and fewer options. Tell Congress to guard your card and oppose the Durban Marshall credit card mandates. Paid for by Electronic Payments Coalition. All right, 72 degrees out there at Lakeland High School in Shelby County. Welcome back to Starnes Country.

Hope you're having a great start to your day here in Memphis. By the way, today is Constitution Day. A lot of celebrations going around across the Mid-South, including at Christian Brothers University, where they are commemorating the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution with free copies.

So, if you'd like a free copy of the Constitution, just head over to Christian Brothers University today. They have free copies while supplies last.

So, you're going to want to head over there and get a copy of that. Also, I want to give you a heads up: big event happening this weekend at Shelby Farms. It's the annual Buffalo Run. You don't actually get to run with the Buffalo, but you may see them on the run. This is all happening on Saturday.

That would be September 27th.

So, if you want information on how you can participate, they're doing a 5K and 15K. Go to racerster.com. That's racerster.com. All right, our telephone number, 901-260-5926. That's 901-260-5926.

Uh, let's go to the Patriot Mobile newsmaker line and say hello to Lee Reeves with us this morning. Mr. Reeves, good morning. Good morning. Thank you.

For having me on with you today. You know, it's interesting. I know we have the big special election coming up in Middle Tennessee, which is outside of our listing area. But I am curious to get your thoughts on the National Guard being sent into the Memphis area.

Well Just as we are interested in Middle Tennessee and what's going on in Memphis, I know you guys have an interest in the special election for Congress up here. Uh yeah, yesterday was a big day. Um uh sorry. Monday was a big day when the President together with our U.S. benefits.

and Governor Bill Lee. Did a press conference saying they are sending the National Guard and other. Federal folks into Memphis to help with the crime problem, and it's important to do. Right, yeah. Why is it important to do?

That's why I wanted to get your reaction to it. Yeah, so why is that important?

Well, a couple of things. I mean, it's important to the residents of Memphis that they are safe in their own homes, but You know, you look at crime statistics, and Memphis is one of the highest, if not the highest. Murder capitals in America. And that's got to stop. It impacts the education.

of uh young um Folks in Memphis, and really, people's ability to work and live and go to school, it's got to get corrected. And I think this will be a great first step in doing that. The governor, and I know that he was dragged into this kicking and screaming. I think the sad and disappointing thing here is that our Republican governor really didn't do anything, which is why President Trump is having to step in here. Are you disappointed in the lack of leadership coming from the state capitol when it comes to the crime problem here?

Yeah, I And I think that uh folks like state senator uh Brent Taylor and John Gillespie have done a great job of you know, beating that drum and saying, hey, we need additional support here. Uh I will say this, my my understanding is It's not just the National Guard. coming in. force composed of the FBI and The DEA and the immigration and customs enforcement, and I think. I think together that will make a much bigger impact.

than simply sending one agent.

Well, I certainly hope so. And I also hope that the State House, and I know Cameron Sexton, the Speaker of the House, we really need to make sure that our George Soros-funded district attorney is removed from office as quickly as possible because cops are doing a great job. Unfortunately, while they're still doing the paperwork, these bad guys are right back out on the street again.

Well, you're 100% right. And I know that uh the speaker of the house cameron sexton has uh issued some statements uh backing up Brent Taylor down there. And saying that this is a dereliction duty. This is something that Um being George Soros. Funded is obviously not a good thing, but we're seeing that play out right now, live.

I know you have introduced a resolution, and I just love this, designating September 10th, 2026 as Charlie Kirk Day. Tell us about that.

Well, I did. And it's important. We also did a proclamation honoring his legacy and hope to send that to his widow. But yes, September 10th, 2026, will be designated as Charlie Kirk Day in Tennessee, and that's the one-year anniversary. of his past.

and it's going to give Tennesseans an opportunity to reflect on his impact. And it's about remembering Charlie not just as a commentator, but as a patriot. who unfortunately gave his life for the principles that he stood for. There are a lot of people running for this seat. You have been it's been said that you are the only 100% MAGA candidate in the seventh congressional district race.

What does that mean to you? What does it mean to be 100% MAGA?

Well, I I am running to go to Washington and support the President's agenda for the remaining 11 months of this. congressional term. We've we've got A very small window of time to get His agenda across the finish line before the midterms. And I'm going to go up there and do it. But I've also supported the President since 2016.

I've got opponents who serve. as delegates for other candidates. I've got uh opponents who have publicly called the President names. That is not me. I'm the only candidate that's actually donated to the president in any of his.

Presidential races. And so I hope that gives people confidence that I stand where I stand, and it will be with the President. I'm curious about an allegation that's out there, and I know people are already bringing this up on our social media page, that you housed illegals in a one hundred and forty two unit apartment complex in the Houston area. How do you can you give us any insight into that? Yeah, I mean, this is something created by an opponent I had last year in the State House, and she's funding.

mailers out there on this. I am in real estate. I own president. I own. Yeah.

just like the president. And no, we background check everybody we follow all the laws all the recommendations the department associations we don't have all the tools that an employee Have like you verify, but we do our best, and I will say. Yeah. I am the only candidate in this race that's actually passed. law on Illegal immigration.

just this last year. in the state of Tennessee. And if that doesn't if That doesn't say where I stand on the issue. Then people need to take note. Because if you're here in this country illegally, you need to go back.

And I've got no financial interest in having people stay here that should not be here. No, no, no, I understand that. But again, you know, and one of the reasons why I think someone wanted to call you the MAGA candidate is we need to know what kind of Republicans we're electing to Congress, which is important.

So I want to circle back one more time. Did you ever house illegals? Not knowingly. That's for sure.

Somebody's cousin is sleeping on their couch. I think they ought to be arrested. and get out.

So, like I said, we background check everybody, we follow all the all the recommendations and best practices of apartment associations, and that's just where I stand on it. All right.

Well, there you go. You answered the question. Mr. Reeves, where can people go, Representative Ruther? My apologies.

Where can people go if they want to get more information about your campaign?

Well, I appreciate that. Go to leereeves.com. We've got early voting. starting today actually in the seventh congressional district. Get out there and vote.

It's going to be a low turnout race, we think, but the more people that vote, the the better represented will be. Yeah. All right.

There you go.

Well, Mr. Reeves, we appreciate you coming on KWAM this morning, and you're right. What happens in every single congressional district in the state of Tennessee matters, and that's why we are focused on what's happening over there.

So thank you for joining us this morning. Thank you very much. All right.

Lee Reeves, everybody, running to replace Mark Green in that special election. And I. I see your comments. And you know, here's the thing. We're going to ask the questions, and we were happy to have candidates come on.

And I appreciate candidates who are at least willing to sit and answer the questions. And we certainly saw some of the things you guys wrote there, and we wanted to see if the representative would weigh in. And he. Yeah. 901-260-5926 is our telephone number.

That's 901-260-5926. All right, here is our trivia question. And this may or may not be easy, depending on whether you've been listening to the news cycle. President Trump and our beautiful First Lady in the UK, they are meeting with the King of England. What is the name of the castle they're meeting in?

Our telephone number, 901-260-5926. That's 901-260-5926. The name of the castle that President Trump and the First Lady are meeting the King and Queen of England in this morning. Again, 901-260-5926. Hang tight, going to your calls coming up next.

And you know, it's just so dangerous that you can't get out of your car, you can't go to the grocery store, you can't go to the market or the service station.

So, yeah, I want to see the crime stop. And if the National Guard is going to stop the crime, bring them out. I agree with you, ma'am. And so do a lot of other people across the mid-south. Welcome back, everybody.

This is Stern's Country, broadcasting today from the Principal Toyota Memphis Studio. By the way, a lot of local restaurants are doing a lot of great things, and we want to specifically salute the restaurants that support K-Wham. And, of course, none better than our good friend Jim Lesapio. Of course, Rum Boogie Cafe down on Beale Street. They're going to be offering National Guard troops free pulled pork sandwiches along with a side.

Also, Dale's in South Haven, one of the best southern restaurants. Let me tell you something. You folks in Bartlett and Germantown. Arlington, listen up. It's worth driving over.

I'm just going to tell you what to do here. All right.

Drive over, go shopping at Silo Square. You're going to love it. It's a lot of fun. Then go over to Dales and enjoy an incredible southern meal. It's going to, folks, I'm telling you, it's really amazing what they've done there.

Dales, they're offering free meet and three meals. That's a meet and three sides for you northerners out there. And also at Junior's Eaton House, they're offering a free meet and three as well.

So all you need to do is be in your National Guard uniform, show your National Guard ID that you're deployed here to the Mid-South. And our good buddy Jim Lasampio is going to get you fed and watered, and you're going to have a full belly.

So it's important for all of us to go out. To either Rumboogie or Dale's or Junior's Eaton House in Hernando, so that we can support Jim because they're putting a lot of money into this, and we want to be able to say thank you to Jim and the great folks there at all of his restaurants. And I know there are a lot of others, but we want to salute the restaurants that are supporting conservative talk radio here in the Mid-South. All right, I want to go to the phone lines here and say hello to Tony in South Haven. Tony, first order of business, we have a trivia question on deck.

We need to know what the name of the council is President Trump is meeting the King of England in today.

Well, good morning, Mr. Stars. I was ripp bit reluctant to even make a guess, but Because I wouldn't show it, but I'm going to say. It's a mighty good guess. Oh.

Hear ye hear ye Tony from South Haven sir Tony you sir on the winner Hehehe Well, all right then.

Well done, Tony. When we get finished talking, don't hang up. Miss Cassia will get your information. Congratulations.

So what do you think about the what do you think about the situation over in Hernando with the the renaming of the street controversy?

Well, my only issue with that is, you know, the interview you had with. The gentleman. there and he made reference. To uh a street, I guess, that was named in honor of Mond Luther King. And he did it like a sport is like a comparison and I I don't think that was right.

And I just want to speak about That although I'm a Charlie Kirk supporter, I think he did great. things and it would have done even better things that he lived and I regret big time that he lost his life.

so tragically and so early. But I think The two individuals we speak of was totally different and they did totally different things. Martin Luther King did what he did at a totally different time. It was much more violent. totally and I don't think that should have been a comparison.

Well, I think the comparison, the reason that comparison was made, Tony, is because someone made the argument that they should not name a street after anyone who doesn't live or isn't from Hernando. And so, if that's the case, then you have to look at MLK Jr. Drive in Hernando and say, okay, well. What's you know, is that hypocrisy? Is that a double standard?

No, I don't Thanks, Phil. because there are a lot of streets named after you know, other figures.

Well, let's just Say my Marla D Marlu Dane. all over the United States of America because of what That particular Taking an individual did. And at the time he did it. That's different. And whoever made the comment.

Or that was their opinion. I respected it. They shouldn't name uh anything. Yeah. After anybody that lived there?

But that was just an opinion of one Maybe one person. I don't. necessarily agree with that. But I still think that there shouldn't be a comparison. between you know, the two individuals that we're talking about now.

All right.

Well, Tony, that is your opinion. And on the Mighty 990, we welcome opinions. And it doesn't matter if I agree or not, we are a meeting place for the mid-South. We're kind of like a big front porch, Tony, where people get together and we debate the issues and we have a good time, share a few laughs. And if nothing else, we get people to think.

Oh yeah, listening. every day.

Well, Tony, we sure do appreciate that. By the way, have you been to Dale's? No, I haven't. Tony, you got to go over to Dales. You know, it's an old school South Haven.

I grew up in old school South Haven. You got to get over there and trust me on this one. Order the country fried steak. I will do it. All right.

It may clog an artery, but it's worth it. It may clog an artery. All right.

Hang tight, Tony. Don't go anywhere, my friend. All right, there you go. All right, that's Tony from South Haven. You see how easy that is, folks?

And thanking the men and women that are coming in to the Mid-South to make us safe again. Cut number three.

So we just offered any of them that want to come in a free lunch plate just to say thank you for coming in and helping with the The crime issue. His reasoning for the free meal.

Southern hospitality, just to, you know, I'm very concerned about crime like everybody else. Citing crime as a reason, he believes there have been fewer people out and about patronizing local businesses and restaurants. As far as the nighttime, we've closed earlier and earlier and earlier, but there's no traffic on the streets.

So you s you say you felt the impact of crime. Oh, absolutely.
