All right, some Thunderboomers out there today, everybody.

Good morning and welcome to Stearns Country. I'm Todd Stearns, and we are broadcasting proudly from the principal Toyota Memphis studio today. Wow, we have so much going on, so much to tell you about. And let me tell you something: Memphis is ground zero for national news for the next little while, and you will have a front row view of all of that news breaking right here on the Mighty 990. I I have to tell you, it was um It was a really remarkable weekend.

And what happened last night in Collierville was just beyond amazing. And I would say we're going to get the final estimates here, but it looked to be about 2,000 people turned out last night for the Charlie Kirk vigil. in in Collierville. And the the crowd was just unbelievable and the spirit, the energy there in the town square was just off the charts. And y you just It was really a remarkable sight, and we met so many of our great KWAM listening audience.

Many of you guys came out there. I have to give a huge shout out to Mayor Maureen Frazier. She just, she and the team, the Board of Aldermen, the Police Department, everybody just jumped in. And this entire rally was put together, I think, in under 24 hours. And to see that many people coming out.

I actually met K WAM listeners who drove over from Marion, Arkansas, to be a part of the event last night. And if you were there, we would love to hear from you and love to hear your thoughts on it. I want you to write down our number, and you're going to need this to call in today, nine oh one two six zero five nine two six. That's 901-260-5926. And we'd love to get your thoughts and really next steps because last night's vigil was not so much looking back, but looking forward at where we are as a nation.

And I think those of us who are. of the conservative persuasion Here in the Mid-South, We have a little bit thicker skin than the average conservative because we live in a dark blue city and we live with the hate and the vitriol every single day. But I've noticed something different, and we saw this in Germantown, but even more so in Collierville, where you had hundreds of young people. Showing up. As a matter of fact, There was a group of young men from Christian Brothers High School who came over and visited afterwards.

And they were all followers of Charlie Kirk. Met a lot of others, a young lady in charge of the Turning Point USA chapter in Rossville. And one of the interesting things that I heard from students is that it's been really hard at other schools to get TP USA chapters going.

So we're going to have to do something about that. And I've committed that we will use the resources of KWAM to make sure that every school that wants a Turning Point USA chapter is going to get a Turning Point USA chapter.

So that is my promise to you.

So we're going to be taking your calls about last night. We had the video, some video from. The event. I want to thank our incredible friends at the Shelby County Republican Party, the Young Republicans, the Memphis Young Republicans, and the Turning Point USA chapter at the University of Memphis. They're the ones that organized all of this, and I certainly appreciated getting an invitation to speak.

And it was just really a wonderful, wonderful event. May I also talk about what's happening with the National Guard. Because you guys are just um I'll tell you, there are a lot of blessings around K-RAM over the past 48 hours.

So we, of course, announced the news that President Trump is sending the National Guard, deploying the National Guard to Memphis. And one of the ideas we had on our social media page was: you know what, we need to roll out the welcome wagon. For the troops, And so we did just that. We put out the all call. And some of the things coming in are just remarkable.

And I want to go through, and this is just giving you the spirit of what makes Memphis so great and so amazing. There was, for example, I'm pulling up these folks here. There's a guy named Tony who lives in Midtown, Peabody and Barksdale area. He said there's a vacant property over there. It might be a great area for staging of the guard and to help drive out the riffrat that's plugging the area.

I'll volunteer in any way. God bless you, Tony, one of our great listeners. Also, a lot of, oh, where is it? This is pretty awesome. Richard Halfcock, and he's over at the Brookhaven chiropractic.

I guess a lot of you guys have had an adjustment or two over there in East Memphis. Richard, writing in, says, Todd, I will gladly take care of these Patriots, already a VA community provider. We'll take care of active duty guardsmen for free while they're here in Memphis. Man, Richard, thank you so much for that. And it's just really amazing the spirit of people here.

And I know our city leaders are just enraged right now. The governor is furious because they really didn't have a say in this. Thanks to Senator Marsha Blackburn and, well, K-Lam, we were able to convince the president that we got a big problem here. And if he can fix what is broken in Memphis, Tennessee, we're going to be able to fix what is broken all over. The nation So, God bless President Trump for sending the National Guard to our great city.

Our good friend Jim Lesampio. And we're going to get to some other folks. I want to give folks shout outs. And by the way, if you do want to help out, maybe you're doing something for the National Guard, drop us a note on our Facebook page, and we'll be more than happy to share that. But Jim Lesapio and his restaurant chain, he owns a lot of restaurants, a lot of clubs around the Mid-South.

And Jim is a patriot and he supports the effort, the work we do here at K-WAM. And we really appreciate Jim. But even more so than that, I don't know who this guy hires to cook, but they've got great food at all of his restaurants. It's just unbelievable. Anyway, Jim just dropped us a note.

He goes, Hey guys, this is Jim LaSapio. I really want to jump in on the support of the National Guard. And here's what I'd like to offer: if the National Guard troops go to Rum Boogie Cafe on Beale Street, they're going to get a complimentary pork sandwich and a side. If they're going down to Dale's in South Haven, complimentary meat and three. National Guard troops get the country-fried steak.

You're welcome. You can thank me later. Junior's Eaton House in Hernando. You're going to get a complimentary meet and three as well. That's compliments of Jim Lesapio, one of our great sponsors here at the Mighty Nine.

And doesn't it make you feel great? I mean, that's exciting what is happening here in the Mid-South. There was a Channel 3 poll that came out just a few days ago. Eighty-four per cent is Eighty-four percent of people living in Memphis and Shelby County. support bringing the National Guard to the Bluff City.

What does that tell you, ladies and gentlemen?

Well it I think it tells us that our elected leaders are so out of touch. With the general public. But beyond that, there is a stench coming out of City Hall, and I am telling you, something is not right there. Because I know they're not all that bright, but But nobody's that stupid. And they can all, every politician I've ever met can read the room.

But these guys aren't wanting to read the room, and that makes me wonder if they're being paid not to read the room. I'm not making any accusations. I'm just telling you, something's not smelling right.

So, we've got a lot of audio to play. We've got a lot of conversation ahead. We're going to be taking your calls as well on the National Guard, on Charlie Kirk. And I'm curious, and by the way, if you are a student, a young person, and you're new to the K-Wham audience, guess what? Your telephone calls go right to the top of the list.

Again, our number: 901-260-5926. That's 901-260-5926. Let's check in with Commander Chuck. He's got a look at the roadways, and there is wet and slippery out there, and lots of accidents popping up. Here's Commander Chuck.

All right, it is 19 minutes past the hour. It is going to be a super hot day. High heading to 95. Our KWAM meteorologist, Laura Huckabee, will have your forecast coming up. Also, this just in from one of our KWAM traffic troopers alerting us to a crash.

This is South 3rd Street North at I-55.

So, no additional information. But if you're traveling on I-55, expect some backups there. That crash just being reported. Also, working another crash on, well, this is 385 West at Riverdale.

So, you can expect that to turn into a parking lot.

So, just pack some patience and an umbrella with you this morning. All right, a lot of folks weighing in on our Facebook live stream this morning. Kristen Hicks, our good friend out in Germantown, says, Todd, I'd love if we had a parade of people to. To greet the National Guard as they arrive in town, signs and flags and friendly faces waving to and welcoming the guardsmen. I love this idea, Kristen.

So we're going to be putting our heads together, and I can assure you that KWAM. And our great listening audience, we're going to make sure that the National Guard troops know how much the good people in the Mid-South love them. Also, got to give a big shout-out to our friends over at Elwood's Shack. They've got an announcement. They're going to be providing complimentary meals for the troops, as well as Mortimer's.

And we really, really appreciate our friends over at Mortimer's, great conservatives. And most importantly, they put out some pretty darn delicious food as well. Where is the other? I've got to give these ladies a shout out. We'll.

I'm not kidding you, folks. Dozens of you. Dozens sending messages. It's just remarkable. And again, if you've got a business or restaurant or you're just a citizen and you want to volunteer, give us a call up, 901-260-5926.

That's 901-260-5926. Can we talk about Tammy Sawyer for just a moment. And this is just a little weird. But it's Tammy Sawyer. And she's very upset.

Over the The National Guard coming to town. We don't know why she was included in this press conference. She's the general sessions clerk. She ought to be doing her job. But instead, she was in front of the wide-angle cameras and she was out there spewing coded racist language.

It was the craziest thing. I don't know how she's always able to get away with this, but she does. And you're going to hear her talking about the rural National Guard troops. Let's take a listen to Tammy Sawyer. It's sad that the day after this country once again recognized 9-11, President Donald Trump.

Has announced even further reduction of our rights as citizens of this country. Here in Memphis, Tennessee, we are facing several challenges, and we know that number one is poverty. But let me tell you a little bit about what happens if the National Guard comes to town. Currently, Tennessee Highway Patrol just deployed an additional 50 troops to this city. since they've come to town on Wednesday night.

We have had one thousand tickets added to our docket every day. We've had 70 arrests since their arrival on Wednesday night, made solely. Tennessee Highway Patrol. The state of the jails is beyond critical. Currently Any day you can walk into Intake, and there are at least 240 people waiting for trial and waiting for bail to be set.

It's the governor and the president of this country. Enact dual authorization to deploy the National Guard to this city, they will have the right to arrest citizens. If the president enacts this, then they won't have the right to arrest. But from what we understand, this will be a dual authorization. We as a county don't have the funding.

Our jail does not have the space. We don't have the number of employees that we will need to support federal occupation. as my stance as the General Sessions Court Clerk is that instead of sending more people here to add to the jail, send us the resources that Shelby County, the blackest county in Tennessee, needs. Our students graduate. Two out of three of them graduate from Memphis Shelby County Schools.

functionally illiterate. Where do we need intervention from the federal government? We need that intervention in the schools. And as a black woman, I'm going to say, Jamie Sawyer is going to say that I am terrified of what this means in the city where Tyree Nichols was killed by police officers. As a black woman, I am going to say what happens when rural people from counties that look nothing like Shelby County get to be a part of the National Guard and police a city that they have been told is violent, that they have been told is not equal to them.

We are not only at crisis in our operations, we are going to be at crisis in our community. I do not support this decision by the elected president of this country nor the governor of this state. And I ask them to not take away our right to police ourselves and to support our people. Send us money. Don't send us more troops.

Here you have it. If Senator Brent Taylor had gotten up and said what Tammy Sawyer just said, they would have run him out of town. You would have had Al Sharpton, everybody else in the professional race agitator world marching in the streets of Memphis. That's just insanity. Insanity, but this is who Tammy Sawyer Sawyer is.

I just have a question. She says that she's mortified, she's terrified because they th these rural um National Guard troops don't Look like her. And we're not quite sure what that means. I think that is. Code for their white people, it could mean that they're also physically fit people.

I don't know. I don't know. Cancy, was that over the line? I don't think it was. The same.

All right, nine oh one two six zero five nine two six. Let's go to the phone lines. And this, our next caller, Bosephas. From rural Tennessee. Bosephus, welcome to the Mighty Nine Ninety.

Woo! Woohoo! Howdy do, Todd! I'm born sheepless. But that's the God truth, member.

And I wanna say honey. Hi to my good friends. Himmy. Himmy so yeah. Woohoo!

The red nets are coming to town. All right, Bosey, this thing, well, a little riled up there. Bosephas, welcome. I think that's a first-time caller. Can't say how to do a little better job screening.

You know, we've It is a morning show. Bo Sivas, I would encourage you to head over while you're in town and go visit one of the other great restaurants and get yourself a meet and three complimentary there. It's on the house from some good conservative patriots. But apparently, Tammy has a fear of all of you redneck people out there. Look, you're going to hear a lot of rhetoric and you're going to hear a lot of hate.

and vitriol. And that's we've expect we expect that from the racist that are in charge of us. I'm also concerned about the mayor, and I there's something not right there.

Something is not right. And we're going to get to the bottom of it. I suspect when it's all said and done, and the FBI comes in, and Tammy Sawyer is right. The. The school system which has been run by Democrats for generations is churning out children who are functionally illiterate.

Quite frankly, we ought to be arresting a lot of the people in charge of the Memphis Shelby County school system. But. And and we get the we get the reports and the allegations and the information that's being compiled. And we suspect there is going to become there's there will be a day of reckoning for all of those that are running that failed school system over there. I think we're going to see a lot of people go to jail when it's all said and done.

As for City Hall, I think we have to go back to a pivotal moment in Paul Young's administration. Not when he invited the rural rednecks to City Hall, but when he invited the gangbangers and the gang leaders to City Hall. Remember that? He invited him over for milk and cookies. Remember that?

No, I Cassie, I don't know if they were Oreos. I don't think they were Oreos. I don't know what kind of cookies they served, but I don't think it was the Oreo. But that that's irrelevant. The point is why.

Why those why the gangbangers? Because the gangbangers knew at that moment that the mayor was a weak man. I mean the guy lives in a you know gated community He's not exposed to what all the rest of us have to go through every single day. He's got a full-time security detail, compliments of the taxpayers here in Shelby County.

So the question is, what sort of deals did he work out? with the gangbangers. and I'm not suggesting anything. We know for a fact because the mayor said that he invited the gangbangers to City Hall. We want to know what they really talked about and what sort of agreements were reached.

Because since that meeting, The gangs in Memphis have had full control over our city. But the good news is, thanks to Donald J. Trump, Those days are about to end. And let me tell you something, that if you're a gangbanger, you better pack your bags and get out of town while you can. Because The National Guard's coming in.

And you're not going to want to mess with those folks. And you're not going to want to mess with the Memphis Police Department because they're about to be unleashed as well. All right, we've got to take a break. We've got more audio coming, a big debate from County Mayor Lee Harris and Senator Customs, or rather, Senator Brent Taylor. Your calls: 901-260-5926.

This is Strange Country. on the mighty 990. All right, folks, you're not. You're not behaving yourselves out on the roadways this morning. Getting some reports now from our K-WAM traffic troopers.

Two-car accident at Poplar Pike and Kirby Road. One lane is closed. They're heading west. Also, this one just popping up, I-40 westbound. We understand there is a wreck at the Fayette-Shelby County line.

So, you folks coming into the city for work, you might experience some delays. That crash, by the way, the right shoulder is blocked. And by the way, if you see a traffic situation, traffic problem, give us a call, let us know about it. We'll pass it along to your fellow commuters this morning: 901-260-5926. Hey, let's go to the phone lines that again, number 901-260-5926.

Mark in Harbor Town. Mark, you guys had a wild weekend. Oh my god, I am. Fitting mad at Mayor Young, Mayor Harris, the Memphis City Council, and our spineless Republican Governor Bill Lee. If that can happen at Harbor Town, Todd, I live there, that could have been me.

That happened in broad daylight, and they have the audacity to say, Oh, we don't need the National Guard here. There's nothing to see here. That is just Ridiculous. I cannot believe these.

Well, actually, I can believe these people. They have failed us. Miserably, but Harbor Town of all places in broad daylight? Are you kidding me? Yeah, and to give people the backstory, and we've got the video up on our K-WAM Facebook page.

You had a gunfight, literally a gunfight right there in the middle of the entrance, in the middle of the street. That's what A.W. Willis, the entrance to Harbortown. And marked my understanding from a lot of K-WAM listeners, they were weighing in on this, and they said they could hear it from their homes. That is just, I mean, they literally, that could have been me, Codd driving through that intersection.

These two thugs. Got out of their car and started shooting at another car. And for Tammy Story to say, oh, sorry, we don't have any more room. I don't care if they have eight to a cell pod and you sit on the sidewalk. That's the problem.

You know, I used to go to Beale Street because I have friends who play in a band down there. I haven't seen cops down there in any presence in two years. It has gotten that bad. Before that, you would have, you know, two or three mounted police, you'd have metal detectors, you'd have three or four cop cars parked there everywhere. Nothing, nothing.

I have never seen Memphis. this lawless in the time that I've been here. Mark, I've heard the same thing from business owners down on Beale, and they say there's just there the city is not listening to them. The MPD, they want to do what they can do to help, but the city is not providing the resources that these downtown businesses need to protect themselves against the bad guys. And Todd, and Todd, here's the thing.

You would think that as a mayor with a problem in his city and limited resources with 700 less police officers, that you would say, okay. Governor Lee, thanks. We'll put the National Guard downtown. We'll take our forces. We'll send them to Orange Mountain.

We'll send them to Raleigh. We'll send them to Fraser. We'll double up there. We'll put them on the highways. They don't even I drive I drive 240 every single day, and there's not one day that goes by where some idiot doesn't cut weave through traffic in three lanes doing about 100 miles an hour.

What do they do? Nothing.

Now, I see the state troopers pull people over. There's not enough. Can you imagine, Todd, if they were to stop. Start citing people for reckless drives in a sign is like, you know, a thousand dollars, it was stopped. Let me tell you something.

It would stop. I'll give you one further, Mark. I was out on 240 this weekend, and I will tell you that for the first time since I've been back in Memphis, five years now. That was the first time people were doing 60 to 65 miles an hour on I-240. And the reason why, I counted at least five THP patrol cars with their lights flashing, pulling people over.

So, to your point, when you actually have the resources out there, people are going to slow down. Yes, sir.

Well, thank you, Todd, for the call. And let me tell you, I'm just disgusted by Mayor Young, and I'm disgusted by Lee Harris. Disgusted by the Memphis City Council. And I think one of our other ones, was it JB? I can't even remember.

JB Smiling. He was on social media too saying, oh, we don't need this. What a fool. Harbor Town, guys, wake up.

Well said, Mark, thank you for the call. 901-260-5926. I'm telling you, those Harbor Town folks, they pay a lot of good money. A lot of money for those homes out there, and they don't deserve that. But hear me on this: I don't care where you live.

We shouldn't have to put up with drive-by gangs shooting at each other in broad daylight. This was What happened? Was it 10:45, 11? That's when everybody at Harbor Town wakes up to get brunch. Geez alloo So, you got to hear this interview, and this is a bit long, but Mayor Lee Harris.

was invited on NewsNation. To have a conversation with Senator Brent Taylor about the National Guard troops. Let's take a listen. Senator, I will start with you. Are you in the community prepared for National Guard troops to be on the ground, to be deployed very, very soon?

We are. My constituents, Hannah, are as happy as a fat man at a Golden Corral buffet to have the National Guard in Memphis. It's something, quite frankly, that a lot of the members of the community have been asking for for a long time. And the governor has sent a surge of THP officers down there. Senator Marshall Blackburn has marshaled federal resources with the FBI and ICE and other federal assets down there, and they've ended their operation.

And now the National Guard will backfill that and continue to help move Memphis crime downwards so we can get it down to a manageable level. Mayor Harris, you represent the county of Shelby. That includes Memphis. You and your colleagues have asked the Trump administration to send money, not troops. I've heard that from a lot of local leaders.

But according to the latest FBI crime stats, Memphis has the highest crime rate in the country, really by far, Detroit coming in second. Talk to me about whether you think the presence of the National Guard could deter crime in your area, in your district. No, I don't think the National Guard deters crime. Military personnel patrolling your street doesn't deter crime. What really happens is you suppress activity.

And so seeing the armored vehicles, the semi-automatic weapons and so forth in your neighborhood tends to freeze you and tends to signal to youth that you shouldn't go outside. And so if there's less activity in a community, that automatically means fewer conflicts that could lead to crime. And so what we'll see is that, that people will stay home and we will see the suppression of our rights, the right to travel, the right to due process, because We'll have military personnel patrolling our streets who are not properly trained, and we'll see a lot of our citizens caught up in the dragnet. And as that occurs, people just stay home.

So no, it doesn't reduce crime. It suppresses activity. And that necessarily reduces the interactions, the conflict, and you see a blip in terms of the crime stats. Senator, before I move on, do you want to respond? Yeah, I would just say that Memphi's rights are already being suppressed.

Memphians are already frozen in place because they can't get out of their homes. They're afraid to go shop in our stores. They're afraid to go downtown to our restaurants and to our ball games. They're already frozen and fearful. And look, the National Guard, if the mayor would work with the National Guard, they might find that they could fill in with administrative and logistical and support roles and you probably would not see the Humvees rolling down Popper Avenue in Memphis.

So I would encourage the mayor to work with Mayor Young, work with the governor, and let's make this work for everybody so that we can bring crime down and people can go about enjoying their homes and their personal property and shop in our stores and eat in our restaurants. Senator, I am curious, what are you learning in Memphis? Will the National Guard only be working on crime? Will they be assisting ICE with their operations as well? Yeah, that will be revealed next week.

I believe there's going to be an announcement. There's already been a federal task force that has resulted in roughly 500 arrests and about 100 federal indictments.

So we have a lot of work to do, and there'll be a lot of activity in federal courts. But unfortunately, we have a Soros funded DA that about You know, 400 of those indictments will wind up being prosecuted in state court. Encourage our DA to take them seriously because a lot of work, hard effort, and resources have been expended to get those indictments, and we need to make sure that they're prosecuted. Mayor Harris, I want to play for you exactly what Memphis Mayor Paul Young had to say about the incoming troops. I'll talk to you on the other side, sir.

And as mayor of the city that I love. From Memphis, Tennessee. My commitment is to make sure that we work strategically to ensure that this happens in a way that it truly benefits and strengthens our community. Talk about whether you agree with the mayor's approach. Are you willing to do the same?

Oh, absolutely. I'm willing to do what I can to try to make sure that residents are safe. But the problem is, is that this ends up escalating. I mean, we've seen this playbook before with the occupation of Washington, D.C. And so the early announcement was we would coordinate that there wouldn't be folks with weapons and that the occupation would end after 30 days.

Obviously, we're more than 30 days in. The occupation is... It looks like it's going to be permanent in D.C. At the same time, soon after the announcement of no weapons, you saw individuals with sidearms.

Soon after that, you saw individuals with semi-automatic weapons.

Soon after that, you saw armored vehicles. You saw checkpoints. And so I'm hopeful that there is the kind of collaboration that Senator Taylor talked about and that we'll be able to work with some of these folks that are coming in. But all evidence is to the contrary. All evidence suggests that this is an occupation and we don't know how this will end.

And we're going to have to stand up and try to reject this because it's so inconsistent with American values. And we know the National Guard troops will be. There until the end of November. We'll see if that's extended again. Mayor, what do you see as the best case scenario if the Trump administration does proceed with this plan?

I don't see any great scenario. I mean, Trump has said in the past that I am president. I can do whatever I want. And the trouble is that that's becoming truer every day.

So there is no good side of this. I think this becomes worse. I think he occupies more cities. And I think we're building up to something that we have never seen before. The best way to make sure that you can stay in office for longer than your term is to make sure that you can repress protests.

The best way to do that is with police on the streets. And so the National Guard gives him a foothold to be able to do that in some of the cities where we would protest if he's trying to stay in office longer.

So I hate to paint such a dark picture, but it's just too much evidence at this point. We can't turn away from it. Senator, I will give you the last word. Yeah, I would just say that if we harken back to the 1960s when the civil rights of African Americans were being violated routinely by state government, it was the President of the United States that sent National Guard troops to Arkansas and Mississippi and Alabama to protect the rights of African Americans. The same is true today.

People don't have a right to leave their home or go shop in stores or eat in our restaurants in Memphis. And it was right then to protect African Americans' rights with the National Guard. It is fair and correct and just today to protect the rights of Memphians to enjoy our homes and our city. And it's unfortunate the mayor is taking the same position that Orville Faubus and George Wallace and Ross Barnett took in the 1960s. We hope both of you come back when the National Guard does land in Memphis.

I do appreciate your time, and I appreciate this discussion. That's what this is about. All right.

Well, there we go. That was the interview there. And you got to love Senator Taylor. He dropped a truth bomb on Lee Harris, and Lee Harris didn't know what hit him because it's true. Why is it?

That the mayor of Memphis and the county mayor are behaving just like the white segregationist governors of the 1950s and 1960s southern states when Republican presidents had to send in the National Guard troops to make sure that the civil rights of black people were protected. And that's exactly what Trump is doing today. Because, ladies and gentlemen, the predominant neighborhoods that are being impacted by this infestation of gang crime, these are black communities, and these are hardworking folks, homeowners, and they deserve, just like everybody else in America, to be able to let their kids play outside without having to worry about wearing Kevlar vest. All right, our telephone number: 901-260-5926. You know what we did not do last week?

We were going to try to do this, and we just had so much news. We're going to do a giveaway today, and one of the stories that did not get a lot of attention. Last week was the passing of a famous Hollywood star. She was an incredibly talented actress, but she is best known for starring on the TV show Alice. And she played the character named Flo.

Now, Polly Holliday was her name. She was actually born in Alabama, so that exit you heard was the real deal. But Polly Holiday, Flo on Alice, had a saying, and we need to know what was that saying.

So if you know the answer, give us a call: 901-260-5926. You will win a signed copy of one of my brand new books. Again, this was the famous saying from Flo on Alice, 901-260-5926.
