The cardiac commanders are the clutch commanders. Earlier on the show, NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah. Coming up, latest news and more. And now, it's Rich Eisen. Hour number three of the Rich Eisen Show is on the air.
First two hours chock full of phone calls and news breaking. Mike McCarthy's not coming back to Dallas. What are the Cowboys going to do?
844-204-Rich. Number to dial for your two cents on that. Anything that happened over the wild card playoff weekend. One more game tonight. I'll be in the studio for Westwood One Radio for the Monday Night Football coverage.
The brilliant Kevin Harlan and Kurt Warner on the call. Wow. What? Why? I mean, a home game for Kurt.
Why not? Yeah. He's the only Ram with a home game tonight.
Wow. And so he will be in Glendale, Arizona for that one between the Vikings and the Rams. I will be conducting the studio program as well. And Daniel Jeremiah gave his opinion of wild card weekend and then this draft process that's going to be starting shortly.
Phone lines are lit. We greatly appreciate that. We'll take your phone calls in a matter of moments. Chris Brockman and I conducted the Business of Overreaction Monday podcast that's out there wherever you get your podcasts.
All three hours of the show available every single day. What the football with Suzy Schuster and Amy Trask, their guest on Tuesday's show is Albert Breer with all the information going on right now. What is Bruin in Dallas right now? What is Bruin in the home of Bill Belichick right now? I imagine he went on Pat's show and said there's nothing to it, right? Is that what he said?
He was asked about Vrabel. Yeah. Yeah. Nothing to it.
Nothing? Okay. Just didn't know. So Albert will have the latest tomorrow on all of that. And there's so much going on. It is off the charts.
844-204-rich number to dial. Now then, when you hire a coach in the NFL, you usually go the opposite of what you've just experienced. Okay? And a perfect example is what the New England Patriots did. Is they had Bill Belichick for 20 plus years running the entire franchise. The entire thing.
Soup to nuts. They basically farmed it out and said, Bill, you shop the groceries, you pick them out, you take what you need, you coach them up, and you keep hanging banners. And it worked. And then when it was finally time to part ways, whatever phraseology you want to use, they went with a rarity, which is an identified successor on their staff. And they were going to go through with the plan because that was the guy that they identified as a successor to Bill Belichick. And one of the reasons why I think they identified Gerard Mayo as a successor to Bill Belichick is because his personality was different than Bill's. And they also knew that if they started from scratch with him, they could take back in the organization the real estate they coughed up to Bill. That they could come up with a more traditional sense of there's the general manager, there's the coach's office, the two shall meet, but the two shall not be one in the same. And it didn't work out.
It didn't work out. And they're going back in the other direction. They're going back to somebody more in the Belichick mold. He played for Bill. He's got a red jacket like Bill's going to have one day. The red jacket is what the Patriots give their Hall of Famers. And Mike Vrabel was named today the 16th head coach of the New England Patriots.
And it is as perfect a fit as you could possibly imagine. He's a CEO head coach who's got a red ass streak in him. And he's exactly the person the Patriots need at the moment to tell the fan base, we see you, we hear you, we understand you. We lost our sense of the Patriot way. We thought we could continue the Patriot way in a new way.
And man, we're going back to the old way. Although I can't wait to see how they divvy up the front office and things of that nature. But Vrabel is used to that sort of setup. I'm sure he would have to be comfortable with whom that front office executive is, because I'll never forget the moment we had him on this show, when the rumors were rampant that A.J. Brown was going to be traded away from Tennessee, because John Robinson, the general manager, didn't want to pay him or the owner didn't want to pay him. And Robinson was going to carry out that code red. And they wound up trading him away. But before they did, I had Vrabel on the program. And Vrabel said, A.J. Brown will not be traded as long as I'm the coach here. And he was straight.
Yada, yada, yada. He's the 16th head coach in the history of the New England Patriots today. Take your heart pills and buckle up. One of our favorite Mike Vrabel drops. And that's what was missing from New England football. Take your heart pills when you take on the New England Patriots and buckle up. This guy standing on the sideline will harken back to the Patriot way. Days of In Bill We Trust. And there's Tommy throwing touchdown passes to Mike Vrabel.
Ten for ten, by the way. A three time Super Bowl champion. And he was an all pro player for one season with the New England Patriots. And he becomes, wait for it, the first head coach to win a Super Bowl IV team and then come back to coach said team since Art Shell. The Raiders, who won two Super Bowls with the Raiders, Forrest Gregg won two Super Bowls with the Packers and Bart Starr, two Super Bowls with the Packers. They wound up coaching the Packers. Forrest Gregg wound up also coaching the Bengals as well.
But Art Shell. And he's got the most Super Bowl wins of any player to later become the head coach of that team. And so there is now a DNA connection between the banners up in the stands and the guy on the sideline.
That's it. The only other, by the way, defensive player in the history of the NFL with 100 or more games played for a team they later became the head coach of like Vrabel is the man he's replacing. Jerod Mayo. Who had 103 games for the Patriots. Art Shell had 207 for the Raiders. Mike Munchak had 159 for the Titans.
And there's Gary Kubiak, who played in 119 games as the Broncos. And so on and so on. Congratulations. I know this is exactly what you wanted. Very excited. Wanted this a year ago.
Had to wait a little bit, but that's totally fine. Like I said on the podcast, Rich, good on Bob Kraft for recognizing that the plan wasn't working and it wasn't going to work and to make this change. And very happy Mike wants to come back. Now let's see who he gets as the offensive coordinator, on the defensive coordinator, who helps out in the front office. And let's rebuild this football team and get to work. Race to see if it's Josh McDaniels, I imagine.
I would love that. This is what Mike Vrabel had to say. By the way, congratulations, here's Mike Vrabel on our screen with the Patriot logo behind him, talking about being the new HC of the NEP. Excited to get to work. Excited to meet the people in this building that have made this place special. Find out what they need. Find out how I can help them. How I can help them do their job better. How we can enhance the stuff that we do well.
And then find out what the areas of focus are and get to work. I want to galvanize our football team. I want to galvanize this building. I want to galvanize our fans. And the most important thing are the players. There's some of them right here.
I want to provide a program that provides their ownership, but also their accountability of each other, and one that they'll be proud to be a part of and that they're going to fight for. Galvanize. Check that, Mark. He's galvanized every Patriot fan I know. Oh, man.
He's galvanized Patriot Nation 100%. And I'm just wondering if you should send a thank you note, Chris Brockman, to One Jets Drive, because it was just ten short days ago that Mike Vrabel met with the Jets for their head coach vacancy. As a matter of fact, a day after the Browns redid the consulting contract, or whatever he had with the Cleveland Browns, I think that's what it was technically. Yeah, technically he was a consultant. Yeah, they redid it so he could start talking to other teams for head coaching jobs. The minute that was done, he met with the Jets, who were the first in line to speak to Mike Vrabel.
And all reports coming out of that meeting were it went very well. Very, very well, I think was the quote that I saw. Two verys. Two verys. Wow.
Very times too well. And Gerard Mayo got fired the next day. And the interview process got started the next day after that.
And less than two weeks later, the first team to hire a head coach are the New England Patriots, hiring Mike Vrabel, who didn't even, it moved so fast he didn't even appear on the Raiders list. Right. Of candidates because I'm sure he told Tommy, I'm going home. I'm going back. Chris, can I ask, because you've been at the forefront asking for this.
I have. I'm looking at his stats as a coach and things of that nature, and he's nine games over 500. Sure. Won over 10 games twice in six years. So I guess as an outsider, why are you so excited? What do you think that Mike Vrabel is going to bring to your team?
Attitude, leadership, respect, culture change. No nonsense. Mike is going to tell you exactly how it is. Kevin Clark wrote an amazing piece about Vrabel a couple years ago when he was following him around at Titans training camp.
He's the best kind of a-hole that you can know, which means he's going to not mince words. You need to get better, he's going to make you get better or you're out. And I think accountability is something this past Patriots team didn't really have. It was obvious if you watched all the games.
So sloppy in certain areas. That's not going to happen anymore with this guy leading the way. This is what he had to say about changing exactly what you guys were talking about.
Hit it. You guys are going to ask me questions about culture, which I'll be happy to talk about and discuss. One thing I've realized about culture is that you can find out what your culture looks like when your family, your business, or your team is at its low point. It's not when you're winning Super Bowls or it's not when you're 7-1 or 10-1 because then everybody's waving towels and everybody's happy and they're excited to come to work. But when you get hit in the mouth or you're down or the chips are against you, then you can take a snapshot of what your company or your team looks like and then you'll find out what kind of culture you have.
But that culture is going to be built on winning, a competitive spirit throughout our roster and throughout our players and throughout our coaches and our staff, and the ability to put the team first and care about somebody other than yourself. Had the Titans in London last year and we met with Vrabel before the game and I've obviously met him many times before, chit-chatted with him many times before. And Jamie Urdahl was part of the crew and he told Jamie how much he likes watching Good Morning Football and his wife likes watching Good Morning Football. Couldn't have been more generous with that comment and warm, and I decided to take a shot and say, well, what about the Rich Eisen shot? And he looked at me, stared a hole straight through me, and he looks at me and goes, what about it?
Does that illustrate your point? And how he's kind of right down the middle of what Belichick is and was and who he is and what the Patriots are looking for, like he doesn't suffer any fools, he's got a sense of humor. So are you trying to call yourself a fool? I was a fool for suggesting, how come you're not complimenting me, coach? Asking Mike Vrabel for a compliment might have been the dumbest thing I could have attempted. And that's the thing, this past year, one of the tempo moments where Jarod Mayo lost some of the fans, lost a lot of the media in Boston is when he called his team soft. And Mike Vrabel will not do that because there will not be any soft players allowed in the building. It just won't be a thing. That's what the culture is going to be, and that's how it's going to change with this guy. But if he's calling players soft and they are being soft, isn't that something that you want to have in your coach? Yeah, but he won't do it in the media like Jarod did.
I don't know why that's such a bad thing. He'll do it to their face in the locker room. It's not going to be something that's aired publicly. You've got to win, man. It's that simple. They've got to build around 10.
Plain and simple as well. Mike said it in the press conference, they're going to have a strong offensive line. They're going to be a tough-nosed team.
We're not going to see a lot of the crap that went on this year. As for 10, this is what he had to say about Drake May and his development. My involvement will be as it relates to game management and situational awareness and where we are on the football field and trying to develop him as a leader of the offense. When they call the play, you want to say everybody's going to believe that it's going to score a touchdown with that type of emphasis on how everything is going to operate. Drake is going to be his own person, but I'm going to give him some things that I feel like are necessary to help us win football games. We have to be a very efficient passing football team. When you look statistically at what wins in the National Football League, our ability to affect the other team's quarterback and our ability to provide for an efficient quarterback and passing game is a high contributor to success. Hey, man, I know the franchise has definitely been adrift since Brady left, but this gives you a great sense of being more moored back to the Patriot way.
I can offer you and all your fans congratulations on that. You sit there and you wonder, how the hell did the Titans just let him walk? How the hell did he not get a job last year?
And the fact that he's landed here makes complete sense. And the question about how the hell did he get let go to begin with will be topic number one through 1,000 next season when the Patriots do in fact visit Nashville, Tennessee. And by the way, in terms of the Smash Mouth way that you play and I take your heart pills and buckle up, the Ravens are on the schedule next year too, old school. Turn back the clock to Vrabel.
Fun. Standing there in front seven, taking on the Ravens in all of those great campaigns back in the day. Yeah, and T.J., look, we've talked about this a lot and you're going to go through it right now. With a new head coach, you just want to be inspired and you want to feel like there's hope for the future. Didn't get that a lot last year, which Rod Mayo, and I don't know how you feel about it, but this is this is the most Patriots fans have felt, you know, hope that the playoffs are back on in a long time.
I feel nothing because I'm not a Patriot fan. I'm saying in terms of how you're going to feel for the Dallas Cowboys and in terms of that, you want to look at somebody in this studio who knows about trying to find inspiration and new head coaches. Hello. Yeah.
I mean, hello. You coach to win the game. I mean, that guy were inspired and then Rex inspired for a while until he started, you know, stepping in the wrong direction. And then on top of all of it, you want to talk about a hire that made you feel great again. Harbaugh back in Michigan.
This has a similar feel to it. Totally. And guess what? Patriots play at Tennessee next year. That's what I just.
OK, great. You said Baltimore. No, I said Tennessee before that, but it's OK. You're doing many things.
He's excited right now, man. I also let you know the sleeve of Thin Mints there. I know, you totally distracted me. All right, we'll take a break. We'll come back. We'll talk about the Philadelphia Eagles. We'll get some reading material out and talk about the Eagles. Are you reading your book during that part of the show?
I didn't read it in Tennessee, I'm sorry. It's a tag along. And the best part? You won't even have to break down a car sized Amazon box after because you'll pick up your Hyundai at the dealer. I mean, picture this.
You're in your PJs, snugged in on your couch. You pull up Amazon on your phone and start the process right there. Just locate a nearby dealer.

Just remember to put some real clothes on before you head over, will you? Hyundai, now available on Amazon. Visit HyundaiUSA.com or call 562-314-4603 for more details.
You are scared of failure, so it prevents you from trying. We implement a big set of ovaries, and then we obsess. Follow and listen on your favorite platform. Follow and listen on your favorite platform. And another thing we didn't mention is that the Patriots are going to the Titans next year. I didn't hear you say that.
I heard Ravens. I love you. I might block it out.
I didn't think it could actually happen. He's out of his mind. He's excited as hell.
Do you understand what he was saying to you, that you're going to want a similar inspo? Like, who would that be for you? For the Cowboys? Would it be Deon? If he's hired?
I don't know. I think he would definitely bring... Come on, there's got to be somebody out there that we can... He's down, Rich. I'm like a dog who keeps getting beat with a newspaper.
After a while, it's hard to... But there's got to be somebody out there that if the Cowboys hired, you'd be like, okay. If Deon Sanders came to coach the Cowboys, yeah, would I be fired up? Of course.
Yeah, for sure. But Belichick's not that guy, huh? I don't think so. Like Ben Johnson, some young boy comes in. Marcus Freeman?
Marcus Freeman, maybe. Yeah, I see. Maybe a young cat that comes in and just changes some stuff up, because clearly what we've been doing ain't been working, right? Something's got to change.
I don't know if you can say that it can't be working. My McCarthy won 12 games three years in a row. Yeah, but the bottom line is every time I bring that up to a Cowboy hater, the bottom line is you didn't win the Super Bowl.
You didn't go to the Super Bowl. That's all fans seem to care about. It's a different standard. There's no question around it.
It's a different standard, but I'm saying that's all people seem to care about. And then you get to the playoffs, and with the exception of that one year in Tampa, it would just be some weird... I'll be honest. Just say it.
We're still on Roku, right? Yeah, say it. Some weird shit. It would happen. Like that last play, Tomlin, would he be somebody that provides the inspiration?
I think so. That would be a change. Come on, it would definitely be. That would be a change. Come on.
It would be a new voice. It would be a different story for him. Never. Never.
He ain't going to die. Then you'd get Cowboy fans going, what are we going to lose in the first round again? There you go. Yes, you would. I get it. You would. Fans are fickle, for sure.
You would. But we're already losing in first. We're not getting there, so. Back on the Rich Eisen Show radio network, sitting at the Rich Eisen Show desk, furnished by Grainger with supplies and solutions for every industry. Grainger has the right product for you.
Call clickrainger.com or just stop by. Jimmy in San Antonio. Let's take his call. Jimmy. How you been, Jimmy? Thank you. I think you sent a text to my family, and I appreciate that, Jimmy, or an email or something like that checking on us. I appreciate it, Jimmy. No, no.
It's strictly email, Rich. I don't like the accusation of having that. As soon as he's like, Jimmy reached out. And I'm like, that's very nice.
You were like, what? No, no. Thank you, Jimmy. Hey, everyone's praying for L.A. and all the first responders.
Thanks, pal. And their families, because their families aren't seeing the first responders. They're working. Yeah. For sure.
What's on your mind? Well, before I get to me and TJ's ambivalence with our coaching situation, Brockman, I've heard Rich say Patriots play Baltimore also. I did say that, but I also said that, you know, how was he made available?
How is Vrabel made available? That will be question number one through one thousand when they visit Nashville, Tennessee next year. And I'm like, and they're also going to take on the Ravens, which by the way, I'm partaking drugs.
So maybe that's my fault. Ladies and gentlemen, Jimmy San Antonio, those aren't drugs, Jimmy. What else is on your mind?
We all know it's good. Who would be the guy? Give me the guy. Give me the guy that's going to provide you the same inspiration as Rables providing Chris right now.
Yeah. I would be happy like Brockman. I would be only one coach that's not going to happen. That would provide that inspiration. And Jimmy Johnson, he's the only one that would get the fan base.
I literally thought that the grandkids can talk with the grandfathers about how it was and how we were doing good. But that's not going to happen. And we all know the next coach of this team is already in the building. Rich Jerry loves backup quarterbacks of the ginger persuasion.
Just call him coach rush, but sign up early. Ginger persuasion, by the way, write that down. That's a great fantasy name.
Ginger persuasion. I like it. Didn't mean to do that. No, that's good. Thanks, Jimmy.
Appreciate it. Jimmy in San Antonio providing his fun frolic and a new fantasy name, ginger persuasion, ginger persuasion. That's all, but that also doesn't that sound like a seventies band, right?
Crystal like that, like opened up for the movie blues, ginger persuasion, ginger persuasion, purple. No, redhead, ginger, rich in Maryland here on the rich eyes and show what's up, rich. What's going on, guys? What do you say about boy, the DMV right now is out of their minds, right? Oh, yeah. And man, I, we have that guy quarterback, but I am extremely competent going to Detroit and I got a message for the city of Detroit right now. Oh, easy.
Their fickle. Be careful. Be careful. Rich tread lightly. Well, when Dan Campbell said they were going to bite kneecaps off, well, guess what?
We're going to take their kneecaps and we're going to plant a flag right in their own backyard. Go command rich. Be careful, man. I care about you.
That sounded a lot like the people who used to say, bring on Alabama, right? We want, but I feel, listen, you go for it, rich. You go, you go follow this kid. He's, he's amazing. Although he's not, he's not, he's not the chess beaten type, you know, but then I think, okay, thanks for the call. Rich.
Rich in Maryland. But I guess right now, I mean, with the giants wondering what's next and the Cowboys now entering the brave new world of finding a new head coach, commanders fans are out of their skulls that they're not in that morass anymore. And then there's the Eagles fans who are feeling it because they're the two seed and they've had a terrific regular season and they are using the giant's best player in years to great effect. Jalen Hurts comes back from his concussion protocol, sabbatical 21 days off in between games and the rustiness that we saw might cause a little bit of concern, but the defensive side of the football is just laying the wood and it started against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday with a monster hit on kickoff, an absolute crushing blow to start the game as Keyshawn Nixon got smoked. By the way, it did look helmet to helmet, but with a runner, that's not called.
You don't call that right. And it was one of four Packers giveaways and they just kept up. How many Packers? I think Daniel Jeremiah mentioned that during the game, how many Packers limped off holding an arm, holding a hand, holding a leg, they beat the crap out of these Eagles, laid the wood talk about physical football, poor Romeo Dobbs too. I mean, he hit his head on the turf with the guardian cap. I don't even, had the Packers somehow pulled that thing out and off, I just had no idea how they would have been able to go into Detroit and win that football game.
I mean, they just got beat up 22 to 10 is the final. It could have been worse, but Saquon slid when he had nothing but turf in front of him. He was so gone. And that's one thing, a couple of things off of that play I want to point out. Number one is how much differently we'd be discussing it. If Saquon took it to the house, it was what, a 70 yard touchdown run? In 29 to 10, Saquon's doing Saquon things again. He's getting in the realm of what, like if he'd taken it to the house, he would have had as many rush yards as Derrick Henry maybe? He would have had 160 maybe.
Right around there. And we would have been like, it's 29 to 10, Saquon just wrapped it up. They won by 19 instead, we're sitting here and talking about, well, the passing game didn't do this. Passing game didn't do that, but Saquon did the smart thing and he was asked after the game why he did it.
This was his answer. It wasn't tempting. Situational football, no mas, it's first down, you win the game. So get the first down and get down, don't matter. No mas. What he went on to say afterwards is that, you know, I could have pulled a hamstring run, and one of the guys running trying to block for me could have pulled a hamstring run.
What are you doing this for? No mas. He went Roberto Duran. It's enough. Man, I love this guy. Let's hear more from him.
I just can't, what is he talking about right here? Are you talking about, oh, stats don't matter to him as long as they win, which by the way, is exactly what this team exemplified by sitting him in week 18 instead of going for Eric Dickerson's record. We've got to be our biggest critic, and that's what we're going to be, and we're going to see where we can improve on, but at the end of the day, you know, the opinions, that's for you guys. The only thing that really matters is how we win, whether we throw 400 yards, we rush for 400 yards, we win the game 3-0, I don't give a **** to be honest, I just want to win. I think that's the mindset of the team.
I know that's the mindset of the team, and we'll go back, we'll watch film, we'll improve, and get ready for whatever we've got next. I'm wondering if, you know, Saquon, did Saquon write the book that A.J. Brown was reading?
Because it sounds very zen, and he doesn't need much self-help, because A.J. Brown, it's not an Eagles game unless we're talking about A.J. Brown and the passing game, and whether he's happy or not. One catch, ten yards, and I'm assuming ten pages, at least, he read of this book.
When they showed him on the sideline reading a book, and it was wild. And I said to you, because you know I'm off X now, I said, crowd, somebody must know what it is. Yeah. Immediately. Within 30 seconds, you texted it back, right?
Immediate, yeah. It's a book called Inner Excellence by an author, Jim Murphy, Train Your Mind for Extraordinary Performance and the Best Possible Life. It's a revised edition. I don't know what that means. Does that mean that the- It's been updated, perhaps? Or is it initially called Outer Excellence? No, it's indeed.
And A.J. Brown tweeted out later on showing the very worn copy. It's not like he just bought it and started reading it, so it backs up his play that he was saying that he reads it a lot. So this isn't like a Lebron book. He talks about it's a 90% mental, 10% physical game. I bring it to every game, and I read it between each drive.
I use it to refocus and lock in despite what may transpire in the game, good or bad. People tend to create controversy when they don't know the truth. That's true. And so, it just so happened the Fox cameras caught him on late window Fox for an NFC East home game in the playoffs from a team in the Northeast.
That's a whopping number for a rating. So they caught it. And so now the conversation, afterwards it's like, is A.J. Brown unhappy with the passing game again to the point where he is busting out a book? Remember we talked about with Jerry Seinfeld when he was here, how I talk about, I talked with him about the GIF that we send everybody, you know, that's his shit, where he's eating popcorn. And he pointed out, like, what I guess act can show off that you couldn't care less?
Is that the phrase? What's more of showing you that it doesn't faze you than eating popcorn? Or I don't care what you think, then I'm eating popcorn.
Well, right underneath that might be reading a book. Like if you're going on a take, right, and you're being impassioned about it, and I bust out a book, I'd throw something at you, I'm not paying attention. I don't care. I'm in my own world. I am.
You know, I'm not going to be part of anything. I'm out. See right there. See, but he's reading his own book. Are you reading a book now, Mike?
What book is that? It's whatever. But that's the point.
That's the point. I have only one catch for 10 yards. I got Mike Florio's book.
I'm talking now. Stop reading. You mean that's Florio's book? Florio's book. What is Rich saying?
Do you understand what I'm saying? So it's just like, he must not be happy because he's reading in between drives. So AJ Brown had this to say afterwards. That's a book that I bring every single game.
My teammates call it a recipe. You know, that's the first time I heard that y'all got me on camera, but that's not the first game. It got a lot of points in there. It's a lot of mental games, a lot of mental parts about it. And you know, because for me, this game is mental.
I physically believe I can do anything and everything, but I got to make sure I'm mentally good. It's something like how I refresh every drive, regardless of if I score a touchdown or I drop a pass. I always go back to that book every drive and just refocus and nothing matters, nothing happens. I just read out back in. Were you frustrated when you read the book? No, I was not frustrated at all. I figured that's what y'all probably thought. I wasn't frustrated.
Why y'all always think I'd be frustrated, right? I read the book. Yeah.
I like to read. Yes. I wonder why people think he's frustrated because about a month ago he was talking about a passing problem that turned out to be a passing problem. But you know, that'll be a conversation over the next few days is, is the passing game an issue? You know how you can get past the passing game being an issue?
You find a tight end who stiff arms somebody right out of the club, the Dallas Goddard catch and run. I mean, he turned, I mean, the last Valentine in Philadelphia treated so poorly, I think was Billy Ray. Did Goddard get $1 for this act on Valentine?
He got the crop report. Good Lord. At Jacuzzi it's a wool poo pass.
You see what I'm saying? The Eagles put their coals on the Packers carpet. My Persian rug from Persia. Who put my coals out on my rug? Geez. That's one way to get through the passing problem. Billy Ray is that you? Get out of my house. A physical win for the Eagles.
That's the way I come out of this. I know it was up and down and it didn't look all that great. They didn't blow out the Packers. Packers are tough team to blow out too. Eagle defense is stout. Packers this year lost two to the Eagles, two to the Lions, two to the Vikings, one every other game. Yep. So Packers aren't going to get just blown out and they would have, I guess, technically been if, if Saequan didn't slide. Technically. They still lost.
I knew you'd like the Valentine line, right? You know how I feel about that movie. So bring on the winner of tonight's game, the Philadelphia, and I'll, I'll say this. Saequan's still running on the Rams. And so I, I I'd be concerned how that matchup takes place for the Los Angeles team that goes outdoors. I know the Minnesota plays indoors as well. Tonight's game is going to be, I think it's going to be dynamite. What's our prediction tonight? I don't know, man. I just think it's tough for the Rams to focus on something like this and they're playing a home game on the road. I just feel like they're, they're, they're going to dig deep brother. I don't know.
I chose the Rams on game day morning. Yeah. I think it's kind of like, it's a situation that we're in.
Sometimes things happen to uplift the city. No doubt. That would definitely a win tonight for the Rams would definitely do that for Los Angeles. And the Rams are, they're coming in, you know, healthy on pretty much all over. These teams are pretty even man.
Oh, they know each other, they played each other earlier this year. I can't wait for it. I can't wait for it. We'll take a break right here on the Rich Eisen show, 844-204 Rich is the number to dial. Tons of phone calls. We'll try and clear the phone banks.
We'll back on the Roku channel in a moment, but right now on the infinity sports network, here's a sports update with rich Ackerman rich. I'd like for you guys to be here for, for a big moment of, of this show's history in my mind. I know we've only had about a, um, a show and a half so far, I don't mean to talk it up in this regard, but if I can have the security, bring in what was, what, what's, what's underneath this, uh, this drum roll, please.
Well, would you mind, would you guys mind helping? Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Each of you taking aside, it's just being hall of famers, Marcus Allen. I have no idea what this is.
And Marshall Falk. This is the direct TV. People put this together for the set and it's going to be on here forevermore. Are you ready?
You ready? Please, please reveal it. Here we go.
That is a bug. What do you think? Oh, that's good. What do you think, what do you think it says that host, you look more like a president than a, it should be on the, it should be on the bill when I go to the hall of fame and walk into the bus room. You should kiss yourself.
Yes. Do it. I thought it was Eisenhower. You should kiss yourself.
It is Eisenhower. You should, you should kiss yourself. It's okay. It's all right. Hey, rich. We've all done it, man. This is studio heaven. Welcome to the club. Welcome to the club. Thanks very much. I appreciate that. That's sweet. Thank you. What do you think? I love it.
Do you think this is good? Yes. Yes. Okay. Very good.
Thanks for guys doing that. How does it feel? You know what?
I'm appreciative that it has more hair than it really, really, really has. That's not how, that's not how you feel. That's what you're thinking.
Oh, that's what I feel. I want to thank my parents. There you go. My folks. There you go. That's you. That's you. That's you. That's you. That's you. That's you. That's you.
That's the real, that's the real deal right there. Well, you got broad shoulders on that one. Is this, is this blasphemous? Is this wrong?
Is this wrong? Not in the television network. Rich, this is, this is an accomplishment. Yeah, it is man. Take pride in that.
If people, if people knew where you came from, back in the day when you were, when you had to set the camera up, start it, then get in front of it, that's, that's, that's awesome man. If this, if this was the real hall of fame ceremony, I'd speak for the next 38 minutes, right? Um, it depends. Marcus. Hey, I got to tell you something.
I sit down for every one of those ages till I don't move. Rich, I'm going to say this. I know. I'm going to say this. And believe me, I want to sometimes.
The look you gave me on that this year sounds like it's rich. All of us know. All of us know. You only get one chance to do it. And it's for a lot of guys, it's their last chance to be recognized.
And especially those guys that have waited a long time and stuff. So yeah, I give them their dude, man, that was show two for us. That was our second show ever. And that set up used to be where TJ sitting right now.
Yeah. We had couches over there. It's still here. It now has a deadwood hat on every day and the, uh, the neck brace autographed by Tony Conner on it, and he donated a hundred thousand dollars to St. Jude to keep here. So Tony, we're still, we still have it exactly where we told you we're going to keep it.
That bust is still here. What's crazy about that, Rich is you were gone. You were doing the Thursday night football game. I actually, because of Chris long, I came down on the 10th.
So I guess that was show five and I did a fantasy football, brockman and Sicilian or show five. You weren't here for that. You've been around a long time and the Chris long referring to is the great creator of this program.
But then you came back and I never got invited back. Oh God, stop it. You're your family's biggest supporter. What's on your mind? Yeah, I apologize. I had a mouthful. I didn't know. It's nine off. But anyway.
Congratulations. You have one of the best shows and I'll tell you, part of the reason is not just your insights. It seemed to be a little better than everybody else on free streaming. Um, it's TJ and, and, and Chris, they had a hell of a lot to show, so I'm thankful to you guys.
It's kind of like watching a good functioning family. I appreciate you saying that Mikey, if you don't mention Del Tufo, he's going to get very upset. You need to feed all the animals. If you're going to feed the animals here at the zoo, Mike. Okay. I was going about, I can't remember his first name.
It's Mike. Just like here. Nice. Good one. That's a good one.
I never remember anybody with the same first name. Okay. But anyway. Sorry, Mike. I'll make sure I get next time. No worries. Anyway, that's, that's cause there's peanut butter in my mouth. Okay.
I think it's okay now. Um, I'm, I'm calling about the Steelers and Tomlin and basically the template that's been in place for their failure. Um, um, now, you know, in addition to changing the way they draft and the newest Rooney, um, probably not matching the previous two, they they've been playing the same smash ball football that emphasizes defense and underestimates and doesn't pay attention to offense or, you know, I won't go through all the examples of Canada, how he doesn't have any coaches in his family, in his, in his coaching trees or anywhere else that are any good and how he may be the best motivator and the best leader, but he ours the worst coaches. And if I were an owner, I'd make them hire some good coaches.
Mike, I appreciate the time and begin to appreciate your comments about our show and you know, and I'm sorry, I'm sorry that I got to him with a mouthful of peanut butter. That's not easy to make your point. I don't know if like crackers might be the only worst thing to be eating when you're trying to without something to drink to wash it down. That is the one criticism I've heard of Tomlin that rings the most true assistance that they're, you know, and all the time they're like, who's on his coaching tree. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
But is that really an indictment though? When it all comes down to a Belichex coaching tree, you know, Vrabel's technically been out on Belichex. Well, I guess he is as a branch of the bill O'Brien branch of the coaching tree, I guess, I guess I got to be a direct descendant.
See, I feel like if you, if you learned under him and you played under him, then in a weird way, that kind of name another like bill O'Brien is without question, the most successful head coach to come from the coaching tree of bill Belichex, Nick Saban, Saban's well, he's one, but not in the NFL, obviously in the, in collegiately, I mean, I'm at the NFL, NFL is my way to save that one. Yeah, probably. Yeah, probably.
Is that really an indictment? You know, like Andy Reed, who's on his coaching tree, I guess John Harbaugh is Reed's got a good one. Yeah.
But Matt Nagy, I mean, Dave Taub, I mean, there's other people who just went to him. That's what I'm saying. Does it matter?
Does it matter that you're not turning anyone else? I guess Mike Shanahan's coaching tree and Holmgren's coaching tree, but they're all off of the goat. They're off of the losses. Yeah.
They're off the wall. And according to Mike in Virginia, we're all part of your tree and he likes what we do. So I appreciate it. Look at you.
You know what? Um, TJ, I appreciate your part of my tree. Me too, man. Susie texted me during the break. How do you not look at TJ and say, looking good, Billy Ray? That's what she texted me. Well, we've done that so many times.
We actually have. Well, especially since when I had hair, I was the one person everybody said I was a dead ringer for was Dan Aykroyd. Oh, I thought you were going to say Eddie Murphy. Looking good, Billy Ray! Thank you. Yes, that's me.
Looking good, Lewis. All right. Let's go to KJAC in Long Beach, California. KJAC? KJAC.
What's up, KJAC? Nope. You want to put him back on hold?
Exactly. Put him on hold. Alan Dallas. What's up, Alan?
Alan. Alan, I appreciate the DM of well wishes. Thank you, sir. Appreciate it. Jeez. I just, you know, obviously it goes without saying what the thoughts are for all you guys and what you're going through there, especially, you know, you folks, you know, and then everybody in that region. Thanks, pal. Terrible.
It's just unbelievable. So, you know, you guys, you are offering, you are doing exactly what needs to be done right now. You're offering a wonderful distraction for, for everybody that's experiencing it, going through it or living through it vicariously for everyone.
So thank you for what you do. Let me put that war and peace here for a minute. Hold on a second.
I'm sorry. War and peace. Wow.
I won't do any, I won't put any crackers on my mouth. So three guesses, TJ, what's going to be leading the five o'clock, four o'clock, five o'clock, nine o'clock and 10 o'clock news this evening. That's right. Let me guess. Yeah. Cowboys have an opening. Yes, sir.
Oh my God. Hey, Al. Al, what do you want to bet that they wait until the day of the Super Bowl to announce the head coach? You know, that's probably championship weekend for sure. It could be after the Super Bowl if he takes, if you want Ben Johnson, it would have to be after the Super Bowl potentially.
So that's true too. It may not be on Jerry. I don't know. Ben Johnson's not going to come here. Like who is going to come here and deal with this? Like that is the problem.
That's the problem they're running into. I don't know. Al, Al, Al, come on now. You know, I, and I, I thought who, who would want to interview with the Jets for instance, after they, they fire their coach in week six.
All right. And, and apparently if you, you know, based on the reporting, uh, aren't trading for people because of somebody's Madden rating is told to the owner by his teenage son. You know what I mean? Like who would want a piece of that?
And 20 people have lined up. So who doesn't want to be the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, Al? I wouldn't, I mean, Ben Johnson, uh, Johnson's not like, you know, you know, uh, what's his name? Vrabel used the Jets to leverage himself against the Patriots. Right. I mean, and they, they, I guess they did hard, and it worked, they reacted quickly. I mean, I don't see a legitimate, a legitimate guy, a legitimate hot assistant taking the Cowboys job.
It's going to be, you know, Mike McCarthy's a great coach, but he was a, uh, he was a retread hire. Right. I mean, it just, I just don't see anybody because you just have to, you have that factor. Uh, and you know, like, and besides that living in this down here, it is all day, all the time.
And it is just when you don't control, you know, when you can't shop for the, you know, you can't shop for the groceries, you know, it becomes, it becomes extremely challenging. Al, thanks for the time. We're up against it. Back in the day, we all thought Parcells would never do it and he did, and it worked out, it worked out well enough, not enough to get a trophy in the case, but it wasn't a disaster, which is why I'm wondering if there's a cocktail napkin with a Carolina blue, a hue to it that might be handed to Bill Belichick.
We'll chat on Tuesday. After Michael Rosenbaum, you know, some of the most talented people in the business, and now he's getting the inside story. Let's get inside of Heather Graham.
