Yeah! This is the Rich Eisen Show. Caleb zips it. Hands on touchdown!
From the Rich Eisen Show studio in Los Angeles. Dan Orlovsky from ESPN. 13 names on the list currently of the Chicago Bears.
Who do you think is the fit? You better be sure that the identity is the best for the offense and the team rather than just Caleb. Earlier on the show, Pro Football Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson. Coming up, Ravens linebacker Kyle Van Nooy. 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist Luke Keakley. And now it's Rich Eisen.
Our number two of the Rich Eisen Show is on the air. Kyle Van Nooy of the Baltimore Ravens will be joining us. Last time I saw him, we were, I was in London when the Ravens took on the Jaguars last year. And I saw Kyle in the team, well, our hotel, the broadcast hotel in London. The team hotel was way out and his family was in the broadcast hotel.
And he had just gotten out of like an hour and a half, two hour long ride to see his family. He was Kyle Van Unoid. And I can only imagine if he plays that way, that's why he leads the team in sacks. He's having a career year, by the way.
He is. Two time New England Patriot Super Bowl champ. Loved Kyle.
2016 and 2018, part of the post 10 year drought. Nice run, Kyle Van Nooy. Yeah, he was traded because he started his career with the Lions. And he was traded mid-season 2016 to New England and kind of gave some life to that defense. And he was at mainstay for a few years. He was.
And now he's been continuing his career now in his 11th year with the Baltimore Ravens. We'll chat with him in advance of taking on the Pittsburgh Steelers Saturday night on Prime Video, which you can see right here on through the Roku portal. We're live on the Roku Sports Channel here on this Thursday. We're live on the Infinity Sports Network. It's our first full week back on Terrestrial Network Radio. We're thrilled to be on Sirius Channel, Sirius XM Channel 158 as well.
Make a note of that 158. My brother was on his way to work today saying, where are you on Sirius XM? So if my brother doesn't know, I'm thinking other people do. Right. I mean, like I use that as a he's fairly intelligent. Great.
He's getting brown. Definitely smartest guy I've ever met. And you've met Del Tufo.
Whoa, that's fine. My brother lives just just around Del Tufo's neighborhood. He doesn't feed squirrels by hand. You know why? Because he's the smartest guy I've ever met.
Because nobody does. Oh, my God. Why would Mike do that?
That's so dangerous. Why can I ask you something? Why is your brother never? We need to have him in during the summer when there's not much going on.
Because he's always working. I need to know about Little Rich. Like what was Little Dicky Eisen like going back up on Sat Shallon? I wouldn't want to talk about that.
Do you think these people don't want to know that? We've had Little Dicky on the program. OK. Let's go to the phone lines here. Vanessa in Santa Rosa, California. First and first up, what's up, Vanessa? Hey, Rich. Hey, guys. Hey, Vanessa.
What's up? It's so nice to talk to you guys. Before I dive into my believing of the Broncos, I did want to say being up here in Santa Rosa, California, we are no strangers to what's going on in Los Angeles. And so my hearts go out to all of you, your family members, everyone that works in the studio. I watched GMFB this morning, and I know that the staff there is also dealing with what's going on down there.
So my heart goes out to you. And I will say mutual aid firefighters from Santa Rosa are on their way down there to help in the effort. Thank you. Bless them. Bless them.
Amazing. Please take care of your mental health during this time. And hydrate.
It's super important to hydrate. I will do that, Vanessa. And thank you. I do remember when wine country was up in flames, and it's so heartbreaking, and I appreciate you pointed out the brave men and women who fight these fires.
So thank you for pointing that out. So you're a Bronco fan in wine country, Vanessa? I am. I am.
It's a long story, but I am here. And let me tell you guys, I have a prediction. I have a prediction for Super Bowl 60. Now, as you recall, Super Bowl 60 was here in Santa Clara, and the Broncos, you know. And the Panthers, I want to see how bold you're going to be, Vanessa. How bold are you going to be here for Super Bowl 60?
So my bold prediction is that, you know, the Broncos, after finally getting this playoff drought off their backs, go back to the Super Bowl for Super Bowl 60 in Santa Clara, where Bo Nix and Patrick Surcan take us to another Super Bowl victory. Okay. Thank you. But you're not calling your shot with the Panthers, though, right? Is that what you're saying, Vanessa? Definitely not. I'm sorry, Bryce Young.
Perhaps the Panthers will be a playoff team, but no, I think it'd be more likely to be against Tampa Bay than the Panthers. Okay. Very good.
Vanessa in Santa Rosa, California. Thank you for calling in. Don't lose our number.
Call back. Making an interesting prediction right there, a bold prediction right there. Luke Kuechly, who played in Super Bowl 50, will be joining us in hour number three. I remember I interviewed him on media night in San Francisco, along with Demarcus Ware of Denver. My guy. And like Demarcus Ware, I believe Luke Kuechly will, very shortly, live in the same bus room as Calvin Johnson.
I remember one guy. You think he gets in this year? I think he could get in this year. Interesting.
I think it's possible. I understand that, but Luke Kuechly was one of the best. He was.
Right? He was definitely one of the best. Urwacher got in on the first ballot, and they're very, very similar. He might not be first ballot. Only played the eight seasons, but dominant.
First ballot's tough. Five-time All-Pro, Rookie of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year. If Patrick Willis is in the Hall of Fame, I think Luke Kuechly should be.
Agree. Similar style of players, similar players. Not a lengthy career, but- Yeah, retired at 28. I mean, he had- The concussions.
Kind of the what-if careers for him. So Luke's going to be joining us in hour number three. As we matriculate our way through our rundown and the playoffs and everything to do with the quarterbacks who are in it, we started the show with quarterbacks under the most pressure. You threw out Mahomes' name as a fun- That was an interesting drive starter. It's fun. To start our show.
Sure. I mentioned Sam Darnold or Russell Wilson because pressure is who might not do it anymore. Matthew Stafford, for sure.
But Stafford as well, although I think Stafford has more runway than potentially Ross. And in terms of Darnold, what opportunities might he get? And Darnold's future is going to be front and center the minute the Vikings season ends. It was already front and center during the Vikings' December run to make it a nine-game winning streak that got snapped by Detroit in the final game of the regular season. We were already talking about, what about J.J. McCarthy?
What do you do? Because Darnold is playing so well. And then a nine-point game in Detroit followed up by what in the playoffs?
And what do the Vikings do? Do they go ahead and give him a contract, offer him a Baker Mayfield-type contract, which is again a three-year, $100 million deal? Because you're not going to give him the Trevor Lawrence, Tua, Jared Goff, Jordan Love deal, right? You're not going to give him 50-something million, are you? I don't know. Where does that land? How does he value his own worth?
Do you try for the market value deal? And does the market value him more on the lower end of the scale? And what does he do? Does he stand firm? Does he not? Does he basically create that as a Mad Lib?
Remember the Mad Libs back when you were playing, when you were a kid? I don't know. Is Cage of the Age yet to play with Mad Libs? No, he can't read. Okay. He'll get there soon.
He'll get there soon. Just understand that every noun and proper name and adjective will be some form of poop for a while. Yeah, we were on a butt kick the last couple weeks. Okay, so that's where, you know. So my kids have graduated from that, although they do use that word a lot now, but now the real hardcore S-word. Oh. Oh, that's common.
Don't worry about it. Geez. Fun. Anyway, long story short. Something to look forward to.
You could use the Mad Lib that I just set up and just remove the proper name of Sam Darnold and put the name of Brock Purdy in there. Yeah. Uh-huh. Because Brock Purdy has one year left on his rookie Mr. Irrelevant deal.
It's $1.1 million for 2025. I mean, you know my thoughts on this. Well. Make him play it out. That ain't happening. It's not happening. That's not what happens in the NFL.
That's not what you do. And certainly when you value this kid to the level that the 49ers clearly value him. The general manager and the head coach John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan met with the media up in Santa Clara yesterday and after a highly disappointed injury marred season that you potential haters might say is the fault of a faulty roster and coaching staff and quarterback. It's not just, hey, too bad Christian McCaffrey got hurt before the season and too bad Brandon Ayuk blew his knee out, yada, yada, yada.
Dre Greenlaw hardly ever came back and Hufanga came back too late and, you know, Nick Bosa went in and out of the lineup. That it's not that. It's just a faulty system that Brock Purdy quarterbacks.
That's one end of it. Here's the way the 49ers value their quarterback going into this crucial spring. Think what we know about Brock is that he's our guy. We've got, you know, we have interest in Brock being around here for a long, long time. He's done so much for our organization. He's won big games and, you know, had a little tougher task as we all did this year with some of the things that happened throughout the course of the year.
We just never could string games where we were all together. And through that, he continued to lead. He continued to play at a high level. So we have every interest in him being around. That's obviously a priority, that position, and, you know, we'll give it that attention.
All right. Before we dive into the subject matter, let's hear from the head coach, Kyle Shanahan, his thoughts on Brock Purdy, who, you know, on occasion will give it back to the other team. Not Jimmy G level, give it back to the other team.
By the way, I'm not being facetious. You got to keep it in. This is all part and parcel of what was happening beforehand and who the 49ers went to the Super Bowl with before Brock Purdy. And then the quarterback they most recently went to the Super Bowl with there in Brock Purdy, Kyle Shanahan, this to say. Brock is the leader of our team. I've loved these three years with Brock. I plan on being with Brock here the whole time I'm here. So like Brock's been a stud. He's a guy I got a lot of confidence in and just as a human. But it starts with what he's done in the field these last two and a half years and we're capable of winning a Super Bowl with him.
We just almost did. And I know he's capable of getting the Niners to the Super Bowl in the future. Hey, Niner fans, that's your quarterback of the future. They're going to sign him. They're going to sign him.
And whenever they sign him to, it's going to light up our phone lines and it's going to lead our show and it's going to lead to the debate. And you know how I feel about him. You know how I feel about Brock Purdy. And I know, Chris, you have always taken the approach and this is not anti Purdy. This is just the anti riling of the system. Not anti Purdy. I wanted to front. I want to front that because I know I have my fun calling you a hater. But you just do not like the system where it's the quarterback's turn.
It's very dumb. It's very hard for him to get paid because that does lead to a list of quarterbacks that now are generationally enriched to the point where your cap hamstrung. Take a look at Cincinnati. They're going to have to try and re-sign Jamar Chase.
And the price only went up. And they're going to have to keep T Higgins for Joe Burrow. And Joe Burrow now makes such a chunk of change that he may not be able to have both of those guys there. Yeah, I've yet to be proven wrong in my stance here.
So I'm just waiting. Because to date, to date, and this is why they're going to sign Brock Purdy and they're going to have to try and find the sweet spot. Because again, the same way I talked about Darnold, does Purdy say, I am a quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers. I quarterbacked the team to the Super Bowl. I had the team up in that Super Bowl in overtime. I deserve to be paid more than Dak Prescott because it's my turn and Dak makes us something that starts with a six and it's my turn for that.
Or does he sit back and go, I am going to take less because I need to have everyone else around me. I'll give a more team friendly deal or whatever, but it ain't going to be, you know, what Baker Mayfield signed for in Tampa because I am more of an established quarterback here than he was in Tampa. And I'm going to be making money like, here's the list of people that you always say, why are you doing this?
Because they haven't done anything. And what have they won since their contracts? Tua? Yep. Trevor Lawrence.
Correct. We'll find out what Jordan Love does in this season. We saw what he did last season. Find out what Justin Herbert can do. Justin Herbert. Those four, cause you kind of have to throw Jared Goff out that window, right?
You have to. Jared Goff got paid first out of all those guys. Brock Purdy's gone further than one of them, I guess, on a rookie deal, right? He made a super bowl in Los Angeles. Yeah.
Yeah. So because all of those guys, all of those guys have not made the playoffs in the year after signing their deal or, or any of them. I mean, Daniel Jones didn't make it. I mean, you could say Baker's like the most successful in terms of being signed at a team more friendly deal and he's made back to back.
He's made back to back division titles, one before his contract and one right after signing his contract. This is, are you serious about winning or do you just want to get paid? Because if you're serious about winning, but you still, you know, want to get what you're, you know, owed and deserved, you take a number AAV in the forties and you move on and you build around you. This is the business we've chosen. But if you want to get paid $65 million a year, then you can say goodbye to Debo and then some of these other guys on your team that you're used to playing with. Well Jay is playing the famous Hyman Roth job dropped from Godfather part two where Michael asked who gave the order and Hyman Roth told him, we never asked that question in this business. And NFL owners knows this is the business they've chosen that you now have to pay quarterbacks before they have 100% proven that they can win you multiple Super Bowls, which is why Mahomes is so damn valuable.
You could see even, you could, could you put Lamar in this category of Jalen Hurts? What have you done? You know, where's the Super Bowl appearances since we signed you?
Where are they? One year removed. I know that you, but we're, we're holding, we're holding to it at the same standard. He didn't even, he wasn't even available for all 16, 17. I mean, Hurts has proven more than Lamar Jackson in the playoffs.
It's just always a fascinating conversation and Brock Purdy's right in the middle of it. Well, who would you rather pay him or Sam Donald? Who? Who's going to? If you're the 49ers. No, no, no.
In, in, if you're an owner of a team, who gets the bigger deal here? Brock Purdy. He has shown that I've, I've seen it. I've seen it. I know it. I've seen it. I've seen it. And certainly if you're the 49ers, you've had both in the, one was a backup to the other one. Brock Purdy has literally been injured twice. I get it.
I would have, I would. In three years. The Niners are going to pay him, pal. It's coming. It's coming and you need to get ready for it.
And the Niners, you know, um, will make their bed with Brock Purdy and live in it and hope he gets him back. Here's a riddle for you. What do yoga mats, a toothbrush and a Hyundai have in common? I'll give you a moment.
Time's up. If you guess they're all fun, well-designed and super useful, you guessed wrong. Unstoppable is streaming exclusively on prime video, January 16th. Back here on the rich Eisen show of her body, Kyle van noise about to join us. What were you guys talking about over there? Uh, TJ has a crazy idea on who the bear should hire.
What do you got over there? Well, you know, I'm just sitting around thinking about this the other day. And I was like, you know, who the bears get is their coach. All these names are getting thrown around and I'm thinking usually there seems to be right, Chris, like a college coach that'll come up and, and get a head coaching job. So I started thinking rich about college coaches, right? And I'm like, where's a college coach is pretty successful right now, but for whatever reason, his fan base doesn't seem to like him. My prediction, Brian Day will leave Ohio state when loser draw and become the next HC of the Chicago bears. I think one of these four coaches goes to the NFL next year.
And if you want to give a power rankings of the possibility, Marcus Freeman's one agree and Sarkis too, I don't think Ryan Day's going anywhere, dude, as much as the, as he feels whatever heat guys, the guy wins there and he's, but it seems like he's never appreciated. Well, that's one, one maybe, but I mean, he let's, let's see what happens in the next two weeks. I'm just saying, I'm just throwing that out there and I'm not just saying that cause I want him to stay in play.
I know why you want him to stay because you feel it's an easy dub, but well, I mean, you know, there's someone you can ask, uh, no, no, it's, it's, it's your boy Ashton. If he's still talking to you after you did this to his son, jumping in his son's airspace. First of all, why would you ever compare me to someone who steals a baseball from a kid?
That's just a ludicrous connection. This is the television version of that. Hey, here's bear thinking, Hey man, I'm going to be there on, I'm going to be sitting next to dad on TV. And then here comes uncle TJ. Take it up baseball. You're not on TV enough. The reason loves wrestling. I'm the reason he was there. Let's go.

How are you doing Kyle?
Let's go rich. Hey, sorry for the crazy hair. Thanks for having me on. Just got off the practice field, but I'm so excited to hang out with you for a little bit, talk some football and talk whatever you like. Well, I'm sorry for my hair, Kyle, you know, actually, I'm sorry about my hair.
Myself. But anyway, good to see you. It looks good.
It looks shiny. You know what? It's all I got left.
I'm out of moves. So you, you've won twice. You won twice with new England. Does this look like a championship team feel like a championship team to you, Kyle?
I mean, if I say no, I'd be done, right. But I think we are like, we have all the pieces, you know, it starts with the ownership. They do a really good job and it goes all the way down to the players. We have the right players at the right time, the right coaches, and we're hungry. I think a lot of us experienced something last year that we don't want to experience again and we're going to fight like hell to continue that path and to repent for our sins from last year. And then this new team that we have this year make the most of it. Just so excited to be back in here, especially after the road that we have starting owing to battling our way through the middle of the season, defensively not going as well as we wanted to early. And then, you know, MVP Lamar having our back for a while till we could get things corrected and then taking off from there and then finally look like a football team going into the playoffs, going against the Steelers, a friendly foe of ours. And it's going to be a good competition game.
And we're excited to host them at the bank. So let me take a better crack at the question instead of asking a yes or no question. How does this remind you of any of your previous championship seasons? Kyle?
Yeah, that's a good one. I think football wise, it starts with the quarterback. You have an extremely good quarterback in Lamar Jackson do it all.
Obviously he's running a little bit more than Tommy, but it is a little bit of right. The IQ of Lamar being in his second year of the system, being in control, taking the offense to new heights with his superstar next to him, Derrick Henry leaning on that run game any time you want Derrick's been awesome for us. Awesome in the locker room. I mean, he had his speech after our game, like it was time and that's kind of the attitude we have. We're all hungry. The guys that we've come back on the team and the new guys we added, we're really hungry because we feel like we have a chance and defensively we've gotten so much better. So you have the makeups of a championship football team. We just got to go put it out there and play complimentary football and take care of the football.
Although I think Tommy, who you referred to, Tom Brady would probably say to you, Hey, you know, he was the king of the sneaks. You know what I mean? Like he was getting a point.
You were right. You know what I mean? The way that Lamar gets 50 in a chunk, Tom would get one in a chunk, man, like, and he didn't need his tush pushed.
You know what I mean? Like he would just get it himself. Right. And he would use his favorite dog, excuse me.
His favorite code word was dog, dog. That's when you knew what it was. Okay.
Well, that would have been information that would have been useful about 10 years ago for a lot of teams. Yeah. Yeah. When he played it, when he played at Tampa, we were waiting for it on every short yard and we're like, are you guys saying it or what?
No, that is, that is funny. So obviously, you know, the conversation around those parts and you weren't part of these moments, Kyle, very much, but if at all, you know, Lamar's struggles in his history of, of trying to win these playoff games, right. And he even said, you know, he needs to be less hyped. He needs to sort of stay within himself. How has that guy shown his, his, that style all year long?
What can you tell me there? Yeah, I would say the word that comes to mind is poise. I think that's something he's worked on, continues to work on all the time. I think you've seen a lot of growth this year is the poise to stay in every situation, no matter what good or bad, keep that poise, not get too high, not get too low, stay in the moment.
He's done a really good job of that. And I think just collectively as a team, we've all stayed better. We've learned a lot about ourselves as a team this year, just staying poised in crazy situations. I mean, we've had, I think the hardest schedule in the NFL and you know, we're, we've been, you know, beat up through it like good and bad, right? You have good scars and you have scars that aren't so good, but they've made us mentally tough, mentally poised and ready for this challenge of the playoffs. And you're only guaranteed this one game and the Steelers aren't, you know, some cakewalk. They're a really good football team, well coached with Mike Tomlin, and then Russ has done a really good job. And then defensively, you can't ever forget TJ Watt, Minka Fitzpatrick and Cam Hayward.
They've been holding it down there for a long time. Yeah, I'm going through, and now that you just mentioned that, pardon me for not knowing this going in, have you ever faced a team for a third time in your career? Obviously, well, you had a New England Buffalo game, right? In your playoffs, right? That's a good one, because that ain't easy, right? That's not easy. This might be the first time.
You might be right. I think the year I was with the Patriots that I got traded to, 16, they played the Texans twice that year. So yeah, I would say that this is the first time I've seen a team three times. That's a good stat.
Shout out Rich right there. Yeah, because I mean that, because that, that's just not simple. And you just saw this team just a couple of weeks ago.
I mean, you saw them the game before, you know, your Christmas game against Houston. So what is the challenge there for you? Because I mean, you kind of, you kind of, I'm sure, is it the same like, hey, the way that you were going to attack Russ in this, on this offense on that Saturday before Christmas, just run it back? So what do you think?
That's a good question. You know, I think it's hard to even answer that just because you're, you are right. Like there's not many things you can do differently, right? You know, everybody, it's just about execution in this game and who execute.
Yeah. You might have some wrinkles in there, but at the end of the day, it's who is going to take care of the football, who's going to block and shed blocks better that day, tackle all the things that you preach at a young age when you start football, you know, tackling, blocking, catching the football, the basic fundamentals are going to show up in this game, especially when, you know, the other teams, you know, their best players, they know your best players. They know how you try to break for their best. You know, you create defensive mismatches. They know how to create offensive mismatches. And they'll tinker some things just like we will. And I think it's going to be a hell of a game. Yeah, I know. It's not like Todd Monken is going to come to work and say, you know what we're going to do?
We're going to, we're going to run Derrick Henry this week as opposed to last time. You know what I mean? Like you are who you are and they are who they are. And man, do you guys just like swap and paint? Like this is that type of affair and you know, the big boy pants have got to be on and it's the Saturday night prime video whole country is going to be streaming this game and cold snowy AFC North football, man.
You're just painting the picture great. It's going to be clash of the titans. It's going to be two great head coaches going against each other, two great teams going against each other, rivalry teams, they're just going to be a lot of energy in the building.
The bank's going to be on fire. I can't wait to see what that atmosphere is going to be like in just an intense game for, you know, the right to get access to your building the next week. Yeah. Cause I'm looking at it right now, again, in your, your history, it does appear you have attempted to tackle Derrick Henry twice in the post season in your days with new England. And I imagine you kind of dig being his teammate on, on moments like this.
What's it like being his teammate right now, Kyle, man, I had one successful time with against going against him and then I didn't have a successful time. What happened? Did he stiff arm you? Did you, did you get one of the same stuff? Not me personally, just, it was a rough day at the office collectively. I think he rushed for like a one 70 that game. It happens, man.
It was brutal, but we're, we're friends now. Me and me and Derrick, uh, you know, chuckle all the time about going against each other over the years, but I always tell him, man, it's good to be your teammate. And not have to hit you during the cold weather games. And, you know, he's, he's a force, uh, when he gets the ball, he's trying to pull the Marshawn Lynch saying, I won't say it cause you know, the words I say, you know, our, our, our pro profanity words, but you get, you get what I'm trying to say. That's, that's how he runs the football with that tenacity. And it's tough during the cold weather games and you got to see it for 60 minutes and you know, I think the Steeler is going to try to take on the challenge and, you know, we're excited for that matchup and Derek's excited to play in that game. It's, you know, his first time playing in the playoffs in a while. So I know he's excited to play. Yeah. I know when you're trying to defend Derrick Henry, I guess to use the Marshawn phrase you can use, it's tough to take care of your mentals. And you're thinking, and you're thinking of your chicken making decisions, right? And you got to run through a, you know, what, face over and over and over. Walk me through Kyle Van Noy here, a few minutes left with the Ravens defender here on the Rich Eisen show.
And we'll get to you personally in a second, but what is it like a Roquan green dotting it up? You're you're, you're hearing from him. There's Kyle Hamilton.
You got to make a stop. What, what, what's it like for you to be a teammate? And I just mentioned two of your teammates. I believe you've got some terrific defenders around you, but what's that like, Kyle?
You know, that's a good question. My, I feel like my job in that is to be the, the kind of the teacher out there just to give reminders, Hey, you know, if you see this, this, or, you know, Kyle, Hey, if you see that, that, and then those two being the all pro players, uh, their communications been amazing, um, the way that they've led our defense and, um, I'm just trying to be that calm presence when things might, uh, feel a little, you know, not out of sorts because they're never out of sorts. They're both very calm, cool, collective players, but when it's the heat of the moment, you know, they can rely on me that I'm going to be able to line up and, you know, stay calm myself and give them tips and reminders for, you know, the end of the game situations or in the heat of the battle, when things are going fast, they can rely on me that I'm going to know what I'm doing and I can help them if they get in a pickle.
So playing with those two players though, is, I mean, I love it there. They, they keep me, uh, feeling 21, um, my, myself, and it's just fun to go to work with guys who love football as much as I do. And let's talk a little bit about your defensive coordinator, Zach or Zachary or, and I just love his story. Um, obviously, uh, if anyone doesn't know, was a player, he just like you, um, and one day he's told, Hey, if you play another down, you might not, you might not live that he had something going on with his spine. And John Harbaugh says, you want to stay in football, let's have you as a coach. And he's now worked his way up to a defensive coordinator position. And I'm wondering how that story resonates with you and the rest of the players in, in his charge.
Kyle. Yeah. To add to the story, to make it, um, even better, he was an all pro player. So it wasn't like he was a guy you can just say, Hey, put another guy out there and he's going to be at that level or better.
Like that's tough to do. He was a very, very good football player, uh, very smart, very physical, fast played with, uh, tenacity. And that's how he coaches fast ten tenacity.
Like he's ready to go at all times. Like he gets the guys going every week, playing hard, playing fast, playing physical, and then he's able to add an element that, uh, some coaches may not have and that's experience experience playing. Um, and I think that's kind of something that sets him apart is he understands situations. He understands putting himself out there and, um, when the game's on the line, what, you know, guy, what, what he's looking at, what, what can he pick up on?
What does he see, um, from that perspective? And then he leans on guys to communicate to them off the field and he leans on coaches a lot, doing a great job of that great job of communicating. Um, you know, I always make fun of him cause he's a little bit, he's one year younger than me and it makes me, uh, feel like not an old man, but it's just kind of funny how that works out.
Uh, as you get a little bit older in the league that now I have a coach who's a D coordinator, um, younger than me, but it's awesome. The energy he brings each and every day, uh, and then it shows like the prime example is when, uh, Adarius Washington makes that big play on fourth down on Christmas and UCZO fly across the screen over AB's, uh, head, it's just, that's the juice he brings. That's that, you know, tenacity and it's fun to play for somebody who loves football the way he does and is just ready to go at all times. How does Michael Pierce take a knee, Kyle, what the hell, man?
I don't know. I want him to go all the way. What was that?
What's he doing? I mean, this is his moment. This is his moment, but I think it even created a bigger moment because of the slide.
I think that's what makes it even more beautiful. I like that. But I want to see three 45 go longer than just one, two step and slide. I mean the slide was Yeah, I want him to do the D on down the sideline.
You want to hold it up? What was that moment like in film, uh, study? What was that? I mean, the same reaction you got on the football field was the same reaction you got in the film room.
Everybody stood up, you know, it was awesome. He's a great player, battled through an injury, you know, was out for a little bit, come back and then to help out the way he has and then to have a play like that. I mean, that should be one of the plays of the year to be able to do that. I think he has some, he has more interceptions than some of the DBs around the league.
So that's awesome. And then last one for you again, certainly in the perspective of your defensive coordinator, Zach Orr, where, you know, uh, the NFL, um, can, can be taken away from you at the last second. Did you never expect it? You're in year 11, Kyle, and you're not just in year 11, you just set a career high in sacks and tackles for loss and quarterback hits. You lead your defense in sacks.
Um, what, where, what, to what do you owe this Kyle? Uh, I've, you know, I, I think it's mentality. Um, my mentality is different. Um, I'm kind of cut from the old school cloth of football. Um, I mean, I played with a damn broken face, uh, for awhile. So just that mindset of nothing, I'm just built different and just believe that every day that chip on my shoulder, I still feel like I'm got a lot to prove. I still feel like I'm that player being overlooked at Detroit lions, um, before I got traded, I'll never forget that those moments and those times I had there, and I'll forever have a chip on my shoulder, um, just felt like I've all been overlooked. And that's the kind of mindset I have each and every day, just that standard of excellence.
And I'm always chasing to be great. Wouldn't that be something if you see the Detroit lions in New Orleans in a couple of weeks? Wouldn't that be something? Huh? Now I gotta, I gotta pull my old, my old PR moves, right?
I gotta say, I'm just worried about this week. I got you one at a time. I get it. Normally I won't. Normally I would not accept that as an answer, but yeah, I shall, but it would be cool.
It would be cool though, because I mean, during the super bowl again, which I would be happy for you and everybody there in that great organization in Baltimore, Kyle, thanks for the time. I appreciate it as you get ready for the Steelers. Good luck.
I look forward to seeing you on Saturday night. Thanks, Rich. You're the best, man. I'm glad you're doing good. You're the man. Thank you. Right back at you. That's Kyle Van Noy right here on the Rich Eisen show.
I loved catching up with him. Um, did you notice, uh, I got exactly what I want from my guest, which is not, uh, honest, thoughtful answers multiple times. You know, I love hearing it. Great question, Rich. Yeah, but it's not all about me.
Of course not. You know, I'm not the only Rich on the, uh, uh, infinity sports network. We'll take a break.

Action. Hey Rob. It's Tom. How you been?
Hey, Tom. Good, man. I've been doing great, man. You're, you're still killing it.
You're like 42 years old now. I mean, I know you miss me, Tom. I know you do. I do. I do.

I got the electrolytes in the water and I'm chipping on a protein margarita, Tom, so just chilling. Thank you. I love you. I miss you.
I'm just relaxing, homie. There's no chance, Rob. This is Tom. This is Tom.
You know, call me when you get to the playoffs. A-C. Cut. Rob, Rob, you're a natural, man. You are a natural.
You're a natural. That was great. That was so funny. I don't know, that sounded, that was lifelike to me. I thought that was pretty lifelike to me. That was pretty good. That was good. Okay.
All righty. That was back in the old day right there. So he didn't come back to the Patriots. He did not come back in 2019, but- But he did go back with Tom when they showed up in Tampa. Correct. He didn't come back in that year. It wasn't Super Bowl.
Oh, right. But he didn't come back in 2021. No, he did. He did.
He did. Yeah, he played in 2021. He did play in 2020.
He did not play in 2022. Right. Yeah.
Okay. Albert Breer reporting today that Brady is already impacting the Raiders coaching search. That is not a surprise. Yeah. That it, according to him, it looks like he, well, Salah's next up for them.
Salah's next up for the Raiders. They have not scheduled an interview with Mike Vrabel as of yet. What's up with that? I think Mike is in Foxborough today. Oh, is that right? I believe that's correct.
I'll have to double check that. Did they just offer him the, let's just offer him a job. Well the Pats haven't- They can't yet. They haven't gone through the- No, they have. They've- Satisfied the Rooney Rule.
Satisfied the Rooney Rule, but they have a meeting tomorrow scheduled with Ben Johnson. Ah. So there's that. Yes.

I shouldn't say it. But the conversation, Pacific Palisades, California has virtually been wiped off the map and Malibu portions of it as well. And I don't know where J.J. Redick's home was, but I'm sending my best to him and everybody else who lost homes. Over a thousand homes apparently wiped out in Pacific Palisades alone.
Rams are saying, and according to the NFL right now, game's still on for Monday. The winds have subsided here. We're hoping some of these fires can get a little bit more under control. And again, last night, fires broke out in some of the most highly dense vegetation areas in the city of Los Angeles. For those who may know the Runyon Canyon Community Studio City as well, and the firefighters put it out within hours because they weren't battling these monster winds that might be returning, however, in the next 24 hours.
So you just pray for pray, just do your and thank God for these first responders. During the conversation we had with with Kyle Van Noy, John Harbaugh took to the podium in Baltimore and announced Zay Flowers is out. Oh, man. Yikes.
Now, this is significant. He led the Ravens in reception, 74 receiving yards, a thousand fifty nine, became the first wide receiver in Ravens history to be selected to the Pro Bowl. And he in his two career playoff games, nine catches, one hundred and fifty six yards. He had that touchdown reception in last year's AFC Championship game, that fumble in the goal line that looked like he was about to dive into the end zone for a second career receiving touchdown in the playoffs.
I don't think that was on him. That was just an incredible play by the Chiefs defense against the Steelers in week 16, five catches for one hundred yards. So it's on the tight ends and Rashad Bateman to pick it up.
That's it. And also, wait a minute, hold on a minute, Derrick Henry. It's got to be 22 to the rescue here on the offensive side of the ball or Lamar is just like I'm the most valuable player.
It's not like Zay Flowers is his absence is going to end everything. But Derrick Henry also finished the season on a roll, one hundred and fifty or more scrimmage yards in his final three games, tied the longest streak in the final three games of a season entering the playoffs since 1980. I'll give you a guess who are the other two. One of them is this year. You just had a big night on Sunday night.
Jamere Gabus. Correct. The other one is a guy you here because we're out of time on the end of the hour, you one segment produced him on NFL Good Morning, 28 Marshall Fong. That's Derrick Henry and what they need out of him. He's the Sonic and the Knuckles right there.
All in one. Got to have it, got to have it, that that's it, because Zay Flowers going down and Isaiah likely has come on strong. You know, he had that very big night, an opening night in Kansas City and then didn't do very much in terms of the stat sheet, right?
Everybody that picked him up in that week two waiver wire got sorely disappointed in fantasy, but he had three receiving touchdowns in his last five games. Mark Andrews. It's coming on.
Yep. A career high. Eighty percent. Catch percentage.
Bateman had nine touchdowns. Right here. And so put it all together. And that's what you know. I mean, next man up. I get it. I get it here.
Philadelphia's finest. Nelson Aguilar. Got to get some out of him, too. But it's 22, man. That's what you got him. You got 22, eight and 22, a two man game at the match point. Who's got it?
Oh, my God. Whoever has it is a nightmare for us. That's it. Bateman's got four receiving touchdowns in his last four games, and the Ravens are eight and no when he scored a touchdown this year. So let's get Bateman in the end zone. Let's get the tight ends working. Let's get Lamar running it, and let's get Derrick Henry doing Derrick Henry things, and they should get through the Steelers who can't put two and two together right now on offense. Yep. Or the Steelers take this and utilize it and push the pressure on Lamar.
Get Derrick Henry before he can get his legs under him, before he gets a head of steam hitting that goal, hitting that line of scrimmage, and the Steelers shot the Ravens in one and done him. I would be stunned. What's more likely for Friday? But Zay Flowers is out. That's the first blush reaction to it.
It's not a death blow, but it is a blow. I just gave you the numbers. How about this one for Rashad Bateman? I got this one. The NFL Network research is just on it. Five receiving touchdowns on deep targets, which is 20 or more air yards in 2024. Tied with Terry McLaurin and DK Metcalf, and the only one who had more was Jamar Chase. Okay.
Okay. So we're all focused on Zay being the first ever Pro Bowl wide receiver from Baltimore. It's Rashad Bateman time, man. And if the Steelers know that, then it's got to be Isaiah, likely a Marc Andrews time. And if any of those connections work, Derrick Henry will be coming downhill at you.
