2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist Luke Kuechly. And now, it's Rich Eisen. That's right. That's right.
That's right. It's the Rich Eisen Show. We're live on the Roku Sports Channel. We are live on the Infinity Sports Network Sirius XM Channel 158 Odyssey app. We're unavoidable. 844-204-rich is the number to connect with us.
We'd love to hear from you today. And we've got a Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson first up with the Detroit Lions on their bye week. Calvin Johnson, one of our favorites to catch up to and with. And he'll be first up on this program. And someone who I believe is a future Hall of Famer. He's a finalist for this thing called the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Luke Kuechly will be joining us in hour number three. He is a radio analyst for the Carolina Panthers. And so, he's seen a lot of football this year. And he's seen the Kansas City Chiefs. He's seen Germany.
That's where I saw him last. As a matter of fact, he's seen Denver. He's seen Philadelphia. He has seen Tampa twice. So, lots of talk. He's seen the Chargers way back in week number two. So, lots to talk about with Luke, who knows a thing or two about football. Kyle Van Noy, the leading soccer of the AFC North Champion Baltimore Ravens, will join us in the middle of this hour. And again, lots of time to talk with you.
844204rich is the number to dial on the program. Good to see you over there, Christopher Brockman. Hey, Rich. How you doing, man? I'm hanging in there.
One with the rest of the great city of Los Angeles. Yes, sir. Good to see you over there, Jason Feller. How are you? What's up, Rich? C.J.
Jefferson. Good to see you, sir. Good to be seen.
And all of the flowers that you have. Thankfully, the local florist businesses are being kept in business by Carl Anthony Towne's desire to troll you for your Dallas Cowboys. I'm glad we can bring a little light to what's going on, man, because it's definitely needed.
Yeah, I know. And just again, I cannot thank the first responders in this city. They basically saved Hollywood and West Hollywood in Beverly Hills and the surrounding areas like Studio City and Sherman Oaks. They saved those towns last night. And, you know, the Windsor died down well enough last night to show the world what these incredible firefighters and brave folks can do when they're not battling 80 to 100 mile an hour winds. And so, God, I love these people. And I would thank them all if I could meet them all. Well, you are in the microphone.
Well, I'm doing it. Thank you, guys. Exactly. Seriously, last night, these locations were saved from being wiped off the map by these brilliant and brilliantly talented and brave individuals. We just got to thank God that it didn't happen the night before, because like you said, I don't think people understand those winds the night before. Unprecedented. We've never seen anything like it.
Correct. So it's understandable how these fires spread. And the fact that we're all here because of their hard work so we could be here hanging out with you.
We don't take it for granted. And we've got college football playoff games returning tonight. The Orange Bowl is tonight in the Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins, giving way to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, taking on Penn State.
Former home of Tyreek Hill, is that what you said? Well, no, we'll see if he's there. We'll see if he's there tonight, the Orange Bowl going down tonight. And then tomorrow night, you've got the Cotton Bowl in the metroplex between The Ohio State University and Texas. And we'll talk about it with you.
Again, 844-204 Rich, number to dial. Listen. Frequently, I will listen to what you guys have to say in our pre-show conversation. What are we going to start talking about today?
And there's lots on our list to discuss today. The 49ers addressed the future of Brock Purdy and their organization. A particular individual of the Dallas Cowboys made quite a boastful statement about what's going to happen next year. Speaking of Penn State and the Nittany Lions, Micah Parsons is on our rundown.
Stephen A. Smith had quite a lot to say about Jerry Jones on what the football. It kind of all works together. But that's not what we're going to start the show with today.
And frequently, I will take the advice of Christopher Brockman. Most recently, just two days ago, when the lights weren't really working, you saw how my wheels were turning about what we're going to do, how we're going to put on a show. And you're like, just talk about it. Just talk about how the lights aren't looking that great. And we're just going to come on in the air like we're Paul Revere, like one of my land, you know, and two of my sea and do it.
And as a matter of fact, as I was in Pauley Pavilion Tuesday night, watching the Michigan Wolverines cause the head coach of UCLA basketball to melt down in his press conference afterwards, that as I'm leaving Pauley Pavilion, a gentleman stops me, says Pauley Pavilion is a lot better lit than your show studio today. And I'm like, OK, thank you, sir. Thank you for watching. Thank you for consuming.
So you were correct about that. Yeah, why not? So I'm against my better judgment allowing us to start today's program, if I don't already say so. With what, Chris?
What do you want to start the program with today? Look, man, this is one of my favorite topics. It's a great sports radio topic.
And now that we're into the playoffs, Rich, guys, Jay Felley, you look great today, nice shoes. Which quarterback is under the most pressure as we start these 2024-2025 NFL playoffs? Under the most pressure.
Because, look, let's be honest. Lamar Jackson basically told us himself that he's feeling pressure entering the playoffs because he knows that his performance in his six postseason games is substandard to the MVP quality and expectation level that he has set for himself and fans and his organization. He told us he's too hyped up. He's feeling the pressure. Josh Allen, he's going to be MVP. Is he under the most pressure? Oh, rookie quarterbacks.
Are they under the most pressure? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. This is David Bowie over here. I would love to make the case, fellas. Wait, wait for it. Wait for it. That's the windup. This is the pitch. Quarterback.
You ready? Hold on a second. I don't know if this is what he's about to say is heat or if it is a Dwight Gooden 12-6, knee-buckling Uncle Charlie. Lord Charles, actually, is what it was called back in his days.
Midnight to 6 p.m. curveball. Go ahead, Chris. Is the quarterback under the most pressure as we get ready for the 2025 NFL playoffs?
It's Patrick Mahomes. That's the dumbest thing I've heard out of your mouth in quite some time. Think about it. Think about it. Think about it.
Okay. He's going for e-mortality. What's more pressure packed than that? E-mortality?
The three-peat. It's an electronic mortality. He's going for e-mortality. He is going to equal Bradshaw and Joe Montana, and he's 28 years old. Exactly, which is why there's no pressure.
He's 28. Oh, my God. And he's had people like me, not me personally, I'm saying people like me, say all year long how lucky this team has been and how they should be 10 at 7 and how, oh, they barely beat them, they're getting help with the refs, blah, blah, blah. When you say people, you're people. You're the people that were saying that.
Where's my camera? I had the Chiefs number one in the power rankings last week because they have the best record in the NFL. You can't change what you say in Week 18 and make me forget about 17 weeks prior. They've had people say this all year, how lucky they are and how they shouldn't be the one seed and they shouldn't do this and they shouldn't do that.
They're less than, they don't have any weapons. That's pressure. Come out and do it and shut everybody up. No, it's not pressure. It's not pressure because if he loses, if he doesn't do what you're saying, he's still 28, he's still going to the Hall of Fame already, he's still being considered that he's on the Mount Rushmore of quarterbacks. He still will go home and be the dad and the husband and have State Farm beg him to do more bundle Ruski commercials.
He's not going to lose anything except maybe respect of people that talk about it for a living. And as much as I appreciate doing this show and having this microphone in front of me, I do not view pressure as things that are said about somebody and whether somebody is going to be considered less than by people who have microphones in front of them. Expectations, narratives, all of that factors in.
And we traffic in that sort of business. Yeah. But to endeavor your subject matter, I view pressure differently. I view pressure as people who won't have the opportunity potentially to do what they have a chance to do over the next five weeks again. That's pressure. That's pressure.
The inability to have the opportunity, the window closing. I look at Lamar Jackson pressure. Oh, God, he's two and four in the playoffs and he's the one that's holding them back and the Ravens should have more Super Bowl appearances.
He doesn't have a single one. Josh Allen, you know, how many times is he going to keep running into Patrick Mahomes? When are the Buffalo Bills going to finally do this and so on and so forth?
They're also young Turks that are part of an organization that they lead that will have more opportunities in the future. I don't view that as pressure for them. If you want to talk about pressure, you could take, is it Jalen Hurts too? Honestly, it's not like he's 38 and he's on the last year of his deal and he's not going to do it again. That's pressure where you may not get the chance. And if you want to talk about who's under the most pressure, is it Bo Nix, really? Jayden Daniels, really? Come on.
Jordan Love, really? These are all guys at the ascension of their careers. You can give them time.
Or narratives, right? Like, you know, when is, as I said, Lamar going to do it? Justin Herbert, when are you going to finally do it? Yeah, big game, bro.
Yeah, go ahead. Right. But that's not pressure.
You want to talk about pressure? Take a look at the quarterbacks involved in the final game of Super Wild Card Weekend. Matthew Stafford going into this game. Super. Is it going to be maybe his last shot?
Is it? I mean, how much long does he want to do it? This past, as you know, spring. He and the Rams had a little bit.
It didn't raise to the level of national conversation because we're out here in the sleepy West Coast where the sports, military, industrial, East Coast complex don't usually pay attention to what goes on around here. But, you know, there was a comment about redoing a contract. I don't know. He only he would know and only the Rams would know. And I don't know if that's going to place any more pressure on him. But the real one, you want to talk about pressure to again endeavor your conversation. It's Sam Darnold.
Oh, interesting. That's pressure. You've won your 14 games, pal. You know, now you're going into the wild card round as the road team because you only scored nine points in in Detroit.
Now, that's the pressure from the conversation. What's being said about Sam? But what's being evaluated about Sam by people that might not give him the opportunity to quarterback this team in Minnesota?
Because J.J. McCarthy's sitting there or quarterback another team that might be as good as the Minnesota Vikings firm to get back to this position? When he takes a snap, this first snap on Monday night on the family of Disney networks for all of us to take in, hopefully here in Los Angeles. That's a moment in time for Sam Darnold that he's not had before. And you have to sit here and wonder, is he going to get it again? Now, to me, that's pressure. And the question is, how does he handle that? Snap to snap, quarter to quarter, decision to decision, reading a defense to reading a defense. That's real, man. Now, will somebody go and generationally enrich him if the Vikings say it's now time for J.J. McCarthy because we evaluated what happened against Detroit and we evaluated what happened against the Rams and they get again back to back losses against these two teams?
That would be wild if they have a 14 win season, but their four losses are in back to back weeks against the same opponents. And then then he goes off into the wild blue free agency yonder and he does get generationally enriched by another team that's not as good as him. Will he ever get back to this moment? Does he sit back and think about that? Now, that's pressure.
Who the hell cares in his mind what we say? Really matters what the evaluators in the NFL say. That's why I would choose Russell Wilson. That's another one.
Yeah. A lot of pressure on Russ. When does he get back to this moment? That's the pressure. Because it's remarkable that he's gotten another opportunity like this in Pittsburgh, where he shows up there after flying through Newark and he shows up there and they... Maybe that was the issue. They essentially automatically install him as the pole position leader for a quarterback position to the point where Kenny Pickett says, you know, I'm a hostage and not a volunteer. And so Mike Tomlin goes, go across the state, where I don't think he's starting a playoff game this weekend because Jalen Hurts has returned to practice. Now, that would put pressure, if you will, on Pickett. But yeah, you know, Russ is going to get another chance. Now, that's pressure.
844-204 Rich is the number to dial here on the program. Here's a riddle for you. What do yoga mats, a toothbrush, and a Hyundai have in common? I'll give you a moment.
All right, time's up because we've got Calvin Johnson coming up. If you guess they're all fun, well-designed, and super useful, you guess wrong. The answer is you can order all those things on Amazon. And the best part, you won't even have to break down a car-sized Amazon box after because you'll pick up your Hyundai at the dealer. Hyundai, now available on Amazon. Visit HyundaiUSA.com or call 562-314-4603 for more details. Limited availability.
Pick up through a participating Hyundai dealer in select markets. When we come back, the Hall of Famer from Detroit. Well, in the case of just being on our rundown, they've had multiple ones. Calvin Johnson coming up. And the NFL, as we all know, there is no margin for error.

All right. I've just been looking up his stats in his career. You know, it's unbelievable because we talk about the Lions in terms of from whence they came, right? And we all know they went 0 and 16. That was his second year of his career. You want to guess how many touchdowns he had the year they went 0 and 16?
Probably as many losses as they had. Did he have 16? 13. 12.
Okay. 1,331 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. Three quarterbacks through to him. I was going to say, who were the QBs that year? Three different ones. Orlovski? That's correct. You want to guess the other two? You'll never guess.
Was it like Kitna? Yes, that's two. One more, Chris.
Go for it. Can I get a hint? Yes. He played for another team in the NFC North that you would never have guessed whether he was on the Lions. Never have guessed. What college did he go to? I'm going to get this right here. It's going to give it away here. Oh, okay.
He played for the Vikings. Oh, Culpeper. That's right. Really? Yeah.
Wow. Yeah. Orlovski went 0-7, Culpeper 0-5, Kitna 0-4. So, did Dante get hurt? Did he start the year that year and got injured? I don't remember. I'm looking for Calvin for confirmation.
Do you remember Calvin? The other quarterbacks on the roster came from the state in college. Drew Stanton. Oh, wow.
The Michigan State. And Drew Henson. Yeah, Rich's boy, Drew Henson. Wow.
Yeah. But they didn't play at all? Those guys didn't play at all? Stanton and Henson? They didn't start.
Okay. All for the Rod Marinelli 0-16 team. And then out went Marinelli, in came Jim Schwartz. And Matthew Stafford. 78 catches, 1,331 yards, please. 12 touchdowns. He's a robot, though.
What do you expect? That's right. Back on the Rich Eisen Show radio network here on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm sitting at the Rich Eisen Show desk furnished by Grainger with supplies and solutions for every industry. Grainger has the right product for you.
Call clickrainger.com or just stop by. The Detroit Lions atop my power rankings, atop the NFC North, atop the NFC and the number one seed. Greatest season the Lions have ever had in the regular season.
And I include my power rankings in that, yes. Dan Campbell, man. Did you hear this sound bite when he was asked how he was going to spend the bye week?
Chomping on knees? Check it out. Somebody that eats these will beat the game as much as you do. What does that look like for you? These next couple of days, I'll have to drink the game. I'm going to get a little bit, I'm going to get a little bit of, you know, work over the next two days. Like I said, we'll practice and then I look, I plan on getting out of here a little bit. I'll have stuff with me and there'll be some little things I'm working on, things that I know that I can do better, get better at, things that I want to look at, do my own checklist as it pertains to us.
Like over the last, call it five weeks, six weeks. But other than that, man, I want to spend time with my family and just sit back for a minute and just charge back up and be ready to go. I love that guy. Same thing with our hall of fame friend joining us now here as part of Primitive, the Primitive Performance, the proud CBD performance partner of Ford Field, the great Detroit Lion and Hall of Famer, Calvin Johnson, back here on the program. Good to see you, Calvin. How are you, sir? Good to see you too, Rich. Happy New Year to you.
Same to you. I'll just give you the floor on Dan Campbell. And you just saw the sound bite where you eat, drink, and you eat, sleep at the game. You know, what are you going to do?
I'm going to drink the game, you know? What do you think of this guy, Calvin? You got to love him, man. He's authentic. That's just Dan just being his authentic self and just, like I say, just staying true to himself. I mean, you can read authenticity.
You can read when somebody's being fake, and we don't get anything fake from Dan. And that's why his players respond the way they do, because he's just his authentic self to them. He doesn't treat anybody different than the other, treats them all the same, expects all of them to be great, to bring their best potential to practice, to the game. And that's all you can ask for in a coach, that he's the same level-headed person, and he's the same with everybody. And what's your relationship with him? I mean, whenever you go to the games, you're hanging out there, you see him, or you're around the team. What's that about, Calvin?
Oh, yeah. I get around to practice whenever I can. I get to a couple of them throughout the season, I try to get to a couple of them here in the playoffs. I try to holler at them whenever I can before the game, after practice. It's always great to talk to them, especially because this is uncharted territory for us here in Detroit. So just to get a feel of what he's feeling, what he's thinking, it's pretty cool, man, just to see how he's driving these guys to perform at their best, even though we might see that they might be a little depleted on that defensive side. Just the level of coaching that he got around him, man, and everybody is just stepping up to the plate.
And now here's the, we're going to stick the landing here, guys. Do you know Dan Campbell was a teammate of Calvin Johnson's when he showed up as a rookie for the Detroit Lions and was in fact on that team that we were referring to before, 0-16, right? I mean, if I, tell me your favorite Dan Campbell teammate story.
You have one, Calvin? Dan Campbell had, he's almost like Robocop when he was out there because he had like, he did something to his shoulder or something. He had his big old sleeve that he played with, and the fact is that, you know, he was still our best tight end and he never complained. He just went out there and got his job.
You never hear anything, the coach saying anything to him just because he was prepared. And that's why I can just, I mean, that's why I was so happy about him. That's why I'm so happy about him being here in Detroit because I know he's going to have these guys prepared because he was always prepared to play. And like I say, he did, he doesn't, he doesn't BS, you know, he just straight to the point is black and white.
Get your job done. And he's going to love on you too. Now he has a sense of humor, you know, he's a family man. So all those things together, you just make a great coach. If I had told you, if I was able to wave, wave a wand and I'm now going back in time, I'm in the, the primitive hot tub time machine, right? And I go back in time and I tap you on the shoulder in the middle of the Owen 16th season. And I point to your teammate, Dan Campbell and say, he is going to be the guy to coach a 15 win Detroit lions team to be the one seed and be the prohibitive favorite to make the super bowl and send Detroit to the super bowl. You would have said what Calvin, you need to put down the cannabis, what's your smoking home bro.
I'm you, I'm using the product, you know, that's what you're saying. I mean, we just went on 16, I was like, anybody just trying to go as far as they can away from here right now. I wouldn't never, I never would have never thought that in a thousand years. Did he, did he have a coaching mentality? Did, did you see anything, I guess the, the roots of that when you were playing with him?
I didn't get a chance to see the roots of it. Obviously you went to other places and got some interim roles and whatnot, but what I could speak to is just the consistency with which he played this consistent demeanor and him being a lovable guy. He was a great teammate.
You know, like I said, his sense of humor has always been there. And so those things, like I say, those things have definitely ended up being a player coach might have actually played in this league. You know, those things can will help you become a better coach. What's it like standing on the Ford field sidelines or just right before a game and you're looking around and you're seeing what's in the stands and the energy in that building and what this team has become for the city and potentially the future. What is that like for you, Calvin Johnson?
It's awesome. This is a sports town. I mean, we love all our sports here. Really smart fans, but football, you know, we need, we need a football winner.
We have a football winner. The city might burn down because people love, they bleed, they breathe football, especially Detroit Lions football and what this team has meant for the city over the last year and a half going on two years now, you just see the energy everywhere you go. I mean, obviously in Detroit, everybody's bouncing around. Everybody's, you know, got something good to talk about because our team is doing well, but he stands outside the city.
You starting to see, I go, you know, I snowboard, I go out to the mountain town, you see lion stuff all the way out in remote places. It's beautiful to see, but it all starts here with this team and that, that very energy, that good energy, that good culture, it is zoos well outside the, it permeates the culture here in Detroit. What do you think is the best feature of this team? It all goes back to the grittiness with which, you know, this team started, you know, I think that that's what our fans respect the most about it. That's why this place is so loud because we have so many guys that are willing, that are that willing to sacrifice, that are willing to bust their butt, that are willing to go out there, even though they're not feeling their best and lay it on the line. We're able to see that each and every day from this team, we've got guys that are in the community that are, that are trying to help their, their, their fellow brethren. You see guys that come from other teams that come here and they get thrown into the lineup and are ready to play, but a lot of that just goes back to the fundamentals and the coaching and the situational situations that they put themselves in practice. So it all boils back down to the grit, you know, that we have here in Detroit. We want to work.
You come here, you got to want to work. Calvin Johnson here on the Rich Eisen Show, the Pro Football Hall of Famer. We'll talk about primitive performance in a moment. Let's talk about another former teammate of yours out here in Los Angeles, California in his 16th year, 16th year for Matthew Stafford. When did you first realize that he was special?
Calvin? Man, it didn't take long when he got to Detroit, you know, it didn't take long for us to realize that this guy can put the ball anywhere on the field. And if he just takes care of his body as he's done over his 16 years now, he's going to be able to play a long time. Let me say he can put the ball anywhere on the field, but he's a smart guy as well.
You know, you can you can bliss this guy all you want. He'll pick you apart. And it all just stems from, you know, him having, you know, I think he's been we went to the fire here in Detroit, you know, early on, you know, we weren't very good. And you got a taste of what it takes to, you know, to push and fight through not having winning seasons. And over time, you know, he just developed a winning mentality and we've seen him go on to it was the best thing about seeing him go in his first year to L.A. and win a Super Bowl in that first year is great that we got golf. But I was happy for him because we always had that here in Detroit. We knew we had it here in Detroit.
So that was good. Do you think he's earned a right to reside in the same gallery in Canton, Ohio, as you do? Calvin, if you leave it up to me, I mean, we haven't seen he doesn't get enough accolades. I mean, he does. He gets accolades out there on the field, but he doesn't get enough after like respect around the league. He's starting to get it now. I feel like he didn't get a lot of that early on and a lot of that came because we were in Detroit. Well, you see, once he went out to L.A., he began to get all the props that he deserves. So I believe one day he keeps on playing. I mean, not if he keeps on playing because he's played 16 years. I'm sure he has records out there. He has a Super Bowl ring.
I would love to welcome you. I'll be I'll be I'll be ecstatic. Right. And you're not the only Triple Crown receiver he's thrown to. You know, I mean, you and Cooper Cup like he's done it twice. He's done it in two different places. He's done it in two different eras of his life. Right.
A single guy in Detroit, young guy. And now, you know, father of of, I believe, four. Right. And who knows? I mean, you know, you know, and and and out here is a 36 year old veteran.
He's done it with Cooper Cup now. Different spot. 100 percent. And you get from a good, solid receiver with that arm, you're going to have success.
One hundred percent would see it with a puka. You know, that's not that relationship starting to grow as well. So it's exciting to see anybody I know that that's solid, that has a want to that wants to work. You team them up with Matthew and you're going to have some success. Yeah. And that's a shot, I think, from last year before the playoff game.
Right. And I told him, I told him to do it between two interceptions. That's why he's already told him in this photo, 100 percent.
That's how you set him up under the field, Calvin. I told I told him I love you, man, but I need two interceptions today. Well, you might see him again. I mean, all they had to do if they if they want to done the Vikings and everything else remains chalk, you'd see him again in the divisional round.
You know, he might he might not come to me because I'm going to say the same thing. You might say three. You might upgrade it. I love it. Tell me about primitive performance for those who may not know what it is, why they should get it.
And and I'll give you the floor on it. Calvin, I appreciate that performance is our line of C.B. products that we made featuring nanotechnology. So he's making it more bio available for the user. We specialize in O.R.S., which is a rehydration solution, has your electrolytes, your vitamins, but then it features the anti-inflammatory component with CBD. So he's really trying to take products that we use while we play ball from the topicals to the drink mixes and really add that pain relief and anti-inflammatory component to it, another product that we specialize in is our topical cream. We're the actual official CBD topical sponsor of the Detroit Tigers this year. And so that means that in order to do that, we had to get our NSF for sport certification, making sure that any athletes, both collegiate and professionally, we didn't want them to have any issues or any unrest with having to pop for PD or anything. So that's why we went through the strenuous timeline of getting our NSF for sport certification so that professional athletes can use our products and be comfortable about it. But that product itself, man, I love it. It's great for me. I use it everywhere from my ankles to my knees.
Anything that, any bumps and bruises that I had, like I said, it's great with pain, inflammation. So we're working our ground game here in Michigan, getting it out into clinics, golf clubs, spas and whatnot. So just continuing to build that brand and its awareness.
We started the brand in 2003, but to have the success that we've had thus far speaks to, obviously we have brand presence, but we have a solid product as well. Primitive performance.com and is a proud CBD performance partner of Ford Field, where again, there'll be no football this weekend because the Lions just kept on winning and winning and winning and they've got a bye week. Before I let you go, do me a favor, choose any of those game balls behind you, pick it off the wall and tell me the story behind it.
I ain't going to look at it. I scored a touchdown on my oldest son's birthday, one of them up there is December 7th. So I was ecstatic. I think it was his first birthday. I scored a touchdown on that game, it was in 2013, 2014.
So I would pick that one up first and foremost. That's the one, you have the game ball there. Do you have the game ball for, by the way, I'll say the date and I assume you will know it.
October 27th, 2013. Is that on the wall? Is that who we're playing Dallas?
Who's that? Oh, yes, sir. You got that one on the wall? I'm sure I got one here somewhere. Well, I mean, it, if it's the game ball, it was one of the, one of your 14 catches for 329 yards.
I don't see it. That means, that means my mom probably took it. She takes all the good stuff. She takes all the good stuff. Your mom has got a career interception.
Is that what you're saying? Now she had, I mean, you would, then she played football if you see her collection. I love that. What was it like to catch 14 balls for 329 yards, which is the record for most yards in a regulation national football league game, Calvin? It was tiring.
It was tiring. But you know, I feel like, you know, we've, we've done, honey, Matthew and myself, we've done a hundred yards in a quarter. I was like, man, really, we really could probably do 400 yards in game.
Really? That would be our max potential. But you know, it was, that game was, you know, we had to have every single one of those yards. That game went down to the line. As you remember, Matthew stuck the ball over the goal line, you know, before I didn't even know he was going to do it, which was, was just crazy.
But ultimately, man, you remember? So I caught a ball down to the one yard line. Matthew rushed everybody up to the line of scrimmage as if he's going to spike the ball and he, he hiked the ball. He just reached it over the goal line real quick and out the touchdown.
I had no idea. I just, I was just in reaction. I just threw my hands up like touchdown game over.
We're out of here. No kidding. Yeah. 31 30 was the final score.
That game. Yup. You needed 300.
I mean, Cameron, 320. So it was at a cold tub week. So what happened after all that?
Yeah. I wish I, I wish I had that topical. I did everything.
I had the hyperbaric chamber, the cold tub, training team, everything. Unbelievable. Well, Calvin, it's, it's great to just reconnect with you as always. You're one of my favorites. Always appreciate you saying yes. And whenever I hear that you're available, I'm like, let's do it.
Lion. Well, we're all rent payers, man. Right now. Amen to that, man. I appreciate you having me. You got it. And then, and then every single time you mentioned, I'm sorry to bring it up again, just from what you said before, you're a six foot five snowboarder. Is that what you're saying? You're six foot five. Megatron's out there on a snowboard.
What the hell does that look like? Yeah. I can't wait, man. I love it. I fell in love with it. The year after I retired, my wife asked me to go skiing.
I thought, baby, I'll do Bethano Heights. And she finally got me out there and we went skiing. And then a year, a year later I switched over to snowboarders so I could be locked in. You don't have to worry about anything happening with my knees. And I've been snowboarding like shoot going on eight years now. It's a passion, true passion.
I love being up on the mountain. I imagine that that wasn't prohibited in your contract when you were playing. Yeah. I believe, I'm sure it was in there because I didn't even, and like I said, I didn't do anything on ice because you know, just I'm from Georgia, we just didn't do any of that stuff down there. Take care of yourself, Calvin.
Thanks again. We'll run into you again soon. Maybe New Orleans. Who knows, right? There you go.
New Orleans pro football hall of Famer, Calvin Johnson. Everybody check out a primitive performance at primitiveperformance.com right here on the rich show. Amazing. Rich, you know, would be amazing. I know Brockman will sign up for this.
The lions, if they make it to the super bowl, Chris, you know where I'm going with this. Let's sign this man. Let's get Megatron on the team.
I'm sure he got fade in the end zone and in them right now, I want to see Megatron get a ring, man. You're still on laughing. All right. Put it back on.
I need to see that. Put it back on. We do this every time to Calvin. I know. No, come on.
What do you think? You got another snap? Come on.
Calvin got at least 12 snaps in them. Look at them. If you run me any more than 10 yards, I'm going to blow a tire. Okay.
Okay. So a fade route. A fade route from the five yard line. Who's stopping them? Right?
Who is that? I stay in shape, you know, but it's a whole different kind of shape being out there on that football field. It's totally different, but that's just five yards, baby. There you go. I mean, you know, golf's going to put the ball where you need it.
That you know, 50%, 50% of a robot is better than 110% of a normal human being. So I need to see that. Now I want the lions to make it.
Megatron needs one of them things, man. That's amazing. Appreciate it, guys. All right, Calvin. There you go.
Now Calvin's done here. Do we do that every time? We've done it several times last time because Sean McVay, right? We call them back. That was the only time we've ever done that in high school together. We've had a few moments like that where people have hung out. Remember Chris Fowler with the kettlebell when he heard me say that, Chris? Yeah, he'd travel with a kettlebell in the carry on.
He was in the hotel cracking up. Okay. Very good. All right.
So Calvin says he can give you one snap from inside the five. Look, get the contract ready. Okay. Very good.
Fun stuff. We've got the top five most wrong narratives of the 2024 NFL season. But that's next on the Roku channel and on the Infinity Sports Network. For those who are listening, here's a sports update with Andrew Bogusch. Welcome to the Jungle Clones.
It's the Jim Rohn Show podcast. The greatest and loyal fan base ever, you, the clones. It all starts with the jungle. We're in it to win it, and I'm in it to go as hard as I possibly can every day to make sure that you clones get the best possible product every single day. Day one, all in. Let's freaking go. The Jim Rohn Show.
Follow and listen on your favorite platform. So we could have had a movie about somebody who's what, a half nothing, a hundred pounds nothing. Could have called it David, huh? And then we could have had Bo.
We could have had Bo up there and everybody could have put their Michigan jerseys on the desk. Did that really happen, David? Well, of course not.
I didn't even know that. But you know something? The other night, you got me going, because the other night I just Googled, I just said, how much of this blank is true, and I started putting in a list of sports movies. Okay. You know, we are Marshall, The Blind Side, Remember the Titans, blah, blah, blah.
We come off like a Ken Burns documentary compared to most of those movies. Oh! Finally!
How could you throw it down? All right. I'm not joking, you know? You want to explain to me how, what you told me on Monday, that Rudy has heard what I've had to say about this subject?
This is the best part. I haven't told my guys about this, but please, I give you the floor. Is this true that Rudy, that what I have said into this microphone has filtered in the direction of Mr. Rudiger?
We're directly to Las Vegas, Nevada, and it was very interesting. I have not talked to Rudy, Angelo has, and apparently Rudy was pretty incensed, incensed enough to go to his neighbor, Mike Tyson, and ask him if he would train him to get you in the rain to put you where you belong. Hold on, hold on a second. Back the truck up.
Hold on. So the real Rudy lives in Las Vegas, next to Mike Tyson? Who he has apparently asked for training tips?
So he could come in. You know what? Rudy could, I heard this through Angelo, but it could have been, I know that Floyd Mayweather, it might've been Mayweather. Oh my gosh.
That's fantastic. And oh, by the way, not in the movie, what was not in the movie is that when Rudy was at Holy Cross and he was, you know, trying to come off as a Notre Dame student, getting in the cheering section, painting the helmets, all that, he also joined what they called, and I don't know if they do it today, but it was a campus wide boxing tournament and it was called the bangle bouts and dudes, he won it as a Holy Cross student, masquerading as a Notre Dame student, and he won, and we had it originally in the script, but we had to cut it out. Well, now hearing about his ability to fight and his desire to fight, you better start playing nice with Rudy. Boy, what a great film this is, David, I mean, now that you can tell me the backstory, I mean, wow, it's quite a moving piece of cinema that you put together. I will never forget, I think it was during COVID and I reconnected with David Anspaugh, who Susie and I have, you know, we're working with on a project for a bit that never really went anywhere, but which by the way, is quite a tale that's frequently told here in Los Angeles. And I was on the phone with him like, hey, you should come on, I don't know why, it might have been an anniversary for Rudy or something like that, or Hoosiers, and when he told me that Rudy Rudiger was so upset that I was saying that, you know, he never really did get carried off a field that he wanted, he said, you have no idea, you pissed him off so much, he asked Mike Tyson for tips to beat you up. And you hope he pops a hammy and all that.
I'll be saying that frequently tonight until I want to start rooting against Penn State. I don't know what I'm going to do tonight, basically, back here in the rich eyes and show, the unexpected can happen at any time. Get your quote, free quote at tryethos.com, that's tryethos.com. Every single year we go into a football season with narratives that everybody swears is true, almost universally in this business, fans, social media. I've got a top five list of the most wrong, such narratives now that we're done through the regular season presented by Hyundai hit it by one, two, three, four and five, richest top five. In a way we're kind of roasting ourselves because we all believed to a man, I believe in this studio that these were absolutely true narratives and there's no way by the end of the season would they make a top five list of the most wrong narratives in 2024.
Now there might be some pushback in that regard here that you believed it or didn't believe it. We'll take it one at a time. Number five on this list.
Let's go. Very simple. Russell Wilson will never take the Steelers to the playoffs. Never. It's never going to happen. It's never going to happen. He's the largest dead cap cut quarterback in the history of the NFL and then good luck Steelers.
Good luck. Oh, him and Justin Fields together, right? Okay. So Justin Fields then goes four and two. He then takes the Steelers from four and two to 10 and three. Yes, they are just the third team in the history of the NFL to enter a playoff campaign on a four game losing streak, but Russ didn't turn a team four and two into a 10 and three team.
Good enough to make the playoffs. So there's that. Black and gold. Here we go. Number four on this list, this narrative, I know you bought into this Chris Brockman. That's for sure.
Quite simple. Number four, without a doubt, the rookie quarterback best set up for success is Caleb Williams. Oh my gosh. That's Keenan Allen. Oh my gosh. That's DJ Moore. Oh my gosh. I actually don't think this narrative is wrong.
Okay. He was set up for success better than anyone else. That's DeAndre Swift. Oh my.
Oh my God. They drafted Roma Dunze anyway. Oh, he's best set up for success.
No question about it. Maybe we should have taken a little hint when Jalen Johnson joined us the day after the ESPYs and I asked him, you know, what's your message to Bears fans is to be patient, be patient. Well, I mean, they, they, they, they went four and two and then won only one game the rest of the year. And it was a last one on a last second field goal, which obviously they had many opportunities to get successful, but bottom line is didn't work out.
Didn't work out. So number three on this list, this wasn't the narrative going into the season ish, but two games into the season, it was 100% the narrative. Number three of the top five most wrong narratives of 2024, the Panthers broke Bryce young when they benched him after the Carolina Panther season began with a spanking in the super dome and then the chargers, a home opener spanking, and then they bench him. And it's just like, the owner doesn't know what he's doing. Dave Canales isn't over his head. The owner told Dave Canales what to do at Dave Canales is now standing there like a hostage in front of the media saying, we're going to go with the best quarterback for a chance to win. And it's Andy Dalton who then immediately goes out and gives them a win at Vegas. And it's just like, he's got to go.
He's never going to do it there, let alone anywhere. Now look at him, 100% the quarterback of the future for the Carolina Panthers. And Dave Canales deserves the kudos for that as does this kid to survive at all. Panthers didn't break him. Number two on this list of the most wrong narratives of 2024, very simple, all the Jets need is a healthy Aaron Rodgers. That's it. Just roll them out there healthy. That's all they need.
Same team, same everything. That's all the problem of last year. That's all it was is the Rodgers wasn't healthy. Let's get them healthy and roll them out. Everything will be fine.
Yada, yada, yada. Wasn't fine at all by any stretch. Didn't help that they poop can the coach. Didn't help that the owner apparently before poop canning the coach in London suggested to bench Aaron Rodgers. Just joking though. Tongue in cheek. That must've been a very funny meeting. Not funny anymore. New coach, new general manager coming and maybe new quarterback.
Number one of the most wrong, the top most wrong narrative of 2024. Good luck with Sam Darnold Vikings. Good luck with him. Good luck with him. Oh, okay.
You're right. Take him off the scrap heap and you're going to turn things around. You'll win 14 games.
We'll go into the final game of the regular season with a chance to win the entire conference. Okay. Well, yeah. Good job, Sam Darnold. All right.
That's my top five list. Get it. One more. I'll give you one more. Here we go. I got you. Give me one more, Jay. My God.
It can't be surprising you on this front. Thank you. All right. We'll get one more. Here we go.
This, this narrative almost made the list. This is the year to get the Buffalo Bills. They can be had. They got rid of too many guys. We all fell for that one. We all did. This is the year to get the Buffalo Bills, guys.
You know what I mean? Who's going to catch the ball? Who's going to put up numbers? Right. Right.
Who's going to? Right. Defensively. Doesn't matter. Offensively. Good luck, Josh Allen. We're going to be exposed. The German hot seat. Two seed. And they beat the cheese. Now you can buy a new Hyundai from the comfort of your new home at Amazon.
Visit HyundaiUSA.com for more details. Kyle Van Noy of the Ravens coming up in hour two. All right. I'll do one more anyway, just for you. I think we need one more. Okay. Here we go.
All right. One more. One more. Because there were so many wrong numbers. There were a lot. But this one was new.
This one was new. Here, here you go. One more. One more.
Jerry Jones will never, ever get an Emmy before he gets to the Lombardi. You got a graphic made for this? Dad did make a graphic.
His, again, we got to revisit this. His scene in Landman. Is amazing.
Which you can see right here on Roku by getting Paramount Plus. It's a dynamite show. I mean, Billy Bob Thornton in the back there is so terrific as the Landman.
You should be watching this show anyway. Correct. And Jon Hamm. The cast is amazing. Demi Moore. And you know, Ali Larder, was it Michelle Randolph, right? Yep.
Who basically will have you at hello every single time she walks on the screen. And if you've seen other Taylor Sheridan shows, there's a bunch of that guys who are always in his show. Right. And so at any rate, Jon Hamm is in that hospital bed you see in the corner. And Jerry Jones makes a cameo as himself telling him a story about how, you know, you might be all about business, but you need to be about family as well. And I've heard this was all Adler. Yeah.
That's what I've heard too. And look at Billy Bob. I don't even know if he's acting. He's just kind of looking at him. He's just like, whoa. Because Billy Bob's been on this show. He's a big sports fan. He knows exactly who the hell Jerry Jones is. Jerry Jones almost cries.
Unreal. I don't know when they shot this, but maybe. Guest star?
Demi? I don't know. Yeah. They got to do that. I'd have been over the summer, right? Give it a shot. Maybe over the summer.
Maybe he was just sitting there and getting all teary because he knew that he's going to have to sign Dak and CD, and it's going to cost him millions. Oh, here we go. According to the old Google, February to June 2024 is when they shot Landman in Fort Worth. Fantastic. Delicious. Seriously. See, I didn't even go squirrel, TJ. I realized that there was absolutely no way you were going to do a top five and not put the Cowboys in there at some point. So I was just leaving.
No. But the all in narrative, I think, was spot on. Can we please, for the love of all that's holy, can we retire all in as soon as this Super Bowl is around? Everyone to hear those two words again and let's proceed it by AEW all in all has ruined my football season.
Those two balls in a couple of weeks, he's going to talk, he's going to say another something crazy. So get ready. Well, as long as it's something different.
I'm sick. All in. Like I said, AEW all in. I'm fine with.
Other than that, I want to hear it. If only all in wasn't the most popular phrase from a poker game called Texas Hold'em. Well, if you don't play cards, you don't know if it was only Alabama Hold'em.
Hey, it's Rich Eisen here. Join me and my compadre, Chris Brockman, every Monday on the Overreaction Monday podcast. You're also saying the record's going to go down.
I'm saying the record's going down anyway. I don't think you're off on this at all. Like you're spot on here. I don't think this is an overreaction because we have no idea what we're reacting to. Come react or overreact with us. Overreaction Monday. Follow and listen on your favorite platform. It's game over. And as always, thanks for watching, and a big thank you to our dear suckers, take care.
