That's right. Hour number three of the Rich Eisen Show is on the air. It's my last hour hanging out here in the state of Utah. Then spring of winter break for my kids is over, although they're going to go back to school till Monday.
My goodness gracious. When will they leave the house? Is this thing on? Hour number three of the Rich Eisen Show is on the air right here on the Roku Sports Channel. Our Sirius XM channel is going to change as well. We'll get you up to speed, as I mentioned, on all of those fronts in time for that Monday change. But we finish up this Thursday show in our final hour.
We just did our power rankings. Dan Wetzel of Yahoo Sports talking about the college football playoffs. But joining us to kick off our number three in the middle of his second decade with the with the great friends of mine at ESPN.
Former Patriot, former Jet, longtime offensive lineman in the National Football League. Damian Woodie back here in the Rich Eisen Show. Happy New Year, Damian. How are you, sir? I'm well, Rich, happy new year to you as well. Right back at you. All right. So let's just jump straight into the conversation that is being had.
Well, first of all, is it true? Are you the only member of ESPN that's not being interviewed by the Jets? Damian? Yeah, you. Yeah, I guess you could say that. I mean, although I feel like I'm a I'm a consultant for the Jets, I always like to live my voice here and there to try to get that organization where it needs to be right now. All right.
So let's just jump into it, man. You know, Aaron Rodgers couldn't have been more, you know, straightforward about the Sunday potentially being his last game forget as a jet, but as an NFL player. What what do you think the Jets should do involving Rodgers and then everything else that they you think they would should need to hire somebody there and get back on the straight narrow?
Damian? Yeah, listen, I feel like I feel like the Jets should bring Aaron Rodgers back. I know some some fans with it with the Jets differ with me on that. But I feel like as far as other options out there, there really isn't a better option as far as the Jets concern. Aaron Rodgers, you can see after especially after the bye week, once he started getting healthy, actually started playing better football. And, you know, I just feel like Aaron Rodgers in a position right now where he could actually be the bridge to the to the next quarterback for the New York Jets, whether it's a guy on the roster guy that they potentially draft or however way they come about it.
But I do think they need to they should bring Aaron Rodgers back. And I listen when you talk about this just organization. The number one thing, man, you need a leader of men out there.
Forget the X's and O's. Listen, obviously, you got to go out there and hire the right coordinators, hire the right teachers to to implement the scheme. But you need you need a culture builder within that building.
And I think that's where it starts with the New York Jets right now. Someone who's going to set the agenda. Someone who's going to set the culture. Someone who's going to have the players fall in line and who's going to who's going to regurgitate the message from the from the man from the top man on down. So hiring the right coach, OK, getting the general manager on the same page as the coach.
And then from there, then you get them getting to players that's going to buy into what you're what you're selling. Let's just see. This is not a rebuild. This is not a rebuild. If you look at this just roster, they have talent litter off all up and down the roster. Obviously, they need a couple of players here and there. But when you look at, you know, position, whether it's left tackle, wide receiver running back, they got pass rushes, they got a quarterback, you know, they got a lot of a lot of players at premium positions. But the one thing they don't have in that building is a culture builder, a leader of men in that building.
And that's where it to me, where it starts with the Jets. And you think somebody can build their culture with Rogers there, you know, in his final year under contract, whatever they might do to to to. And you think it, you know, at age 41, he's going to be the guy that you need to build a culture around and then get some quarterback up to speed. You really think that that is the best course of action rather than just cauterizing this wound with a terrific roster that doesn't have a single Pro Bowler on it and move forward.
Just turn the page and let the new person come in without a single whiff of the previous last two within the building. Yeah, I mean, listen, if the next regime wants to be rid of Aaron Rodgers and so be it, I'm not going to I'm not going to argue a fight about it. But I do think, listen, I think when you bring the right person into the building, the person that that commands respect in the building, I think Aaron Rodgers will be a guy that will fall in line with that. I think ultimately all players want all players want us to win and be successful. I think Aaron Rodgers want that as well. And I think, listen, Aaron Rodgers, he is two years into in with the Jets have been a failure. You know, if he had any type of so if he don't, if he's done any type of soul searching, he's he would obviously understand that he's contributed, you know, much to what's going on in this just with this just team this year. But I also think that, you know, that Aaron Rodgers doesn't want to be a guy that wants to lead, you know, in this career with this thing that that's been two years with with this just organization.
So I think bringing in the right guy, bringing in the right coach, you know, guy who command the command the men in that building. I think Aaron Rodgers will fall in line with that. Damian, what do you hear on the Rich Eisen show? What's your opinion of Gerard Mayo? There's so many in New England that feel he should be one and done because Vrabel lurks. He's out there. He can be brought in and bring the old school years back as if, you know, Mayo's tenure there should just be one and done.
What do you think? Yeah, listen, I think I think when you're a first year head coach, there's going to be a, you know, there's going to be a learning curve and you're following a legend. You think about this, you're following the great Bill Belichick, the greatest head coach that we had that we have ever seen in the history of our league. And so when you draw Gerard Mayo, you following that and it's for fans to expect Gerard Mayo to to literally, I don't know, duplicate or had or come to any level of success that Bill Belichick had at this juncture in his coaching career is ludicrous. I always felt like this was, you know, obviously this year was all about the quarterback.
Finding out if, you know, if Drake May is a guy, clearly after this year, I think Drake May is a guy. I think Drake May has the opportunity if the pieces all around him to be one of the best quarterbacks that we have in our league. And so for Gerard Mayo, I think this was a tough year. I think there are decisions that he that things that he said or decisions that he made that he probably regrets, but that's all a part of being on the job and learning as a first year head coach. So I think he deserves to come back another year and learn from the things that happened in this year.
And hopefully he become a better player to go along with some of the some better some personnel that they'll upgrade this off season via the free agency and the draft. If somebody so when when you got drafted by the Patriots in ninety nine, who's the one who called you on the phone draft draft day? David, Pete Carroll, Pete Carroll, Carroll, Pete Carroll. Yeah, Pete Carroll and Robert Kraft, man.
So it was it was an unbelievable moment to hear. Pete Carroll called me and talked to me about, you know, what their vision was for me back in nineteen ninety nine. You know, this was at that time, the three four defense was was coming back into Vogue and they all these big nose guards were, you know, kind of dominating.
And so they wanted, you know, they you know, the way he explained it to me was we needed a bigger center to combat, you know, those type of big nose guards. And so, you know, I'm struggling, dedicated to Pete Carroll and Robert Kraft for selecting me 17th overall. And then so you were there, Belichick's arrival and Brady's arrival and then the obviously arrival of the of the of the dynasty. How do you think Bill's going to fare in in college? Danny, what do you think about that? Listen, I think he's going to do well. I know everyone talks about, you know, Bill Belichick, 72 year old coach, how he's going to be able to relate to, you know, to these 18, 19 year old young men. And I think that, you know, in my opinion, Bill has so much to offer these young guys who are looking to try to make the jump to the next level. You know, if any if any of these young men has any sense that want to become better, better players, better human beings, they'll jump at the opportunity because I can I'll be the first one to tell you if it wasn't, if I didn't get the coaching that Bill Belichick offered me at the beginning of my career, I don't know. I don't know if I would have had a 12 year career in the National Football League because he set the foundation and taught me more about the game of football than anyone I've ever come across. So if these young men were smart, they will understand that the tremendous opportunity to be coached by Belichick, Bill Belichick. Yeah, it's not going to be easy.
It's not going to be a cake wall, but nothing in life is easy. But he will make you a better player. Have you have a better understanding of the game of football? Did you ever go into Bill's office and ask for more money, like some 18 year old might do? You know, what do you think that ever happened?
Oh, yeah. I mean, I was I was an older, much older person. You know, that was my first foray into free agency.
And obviously at that time, we didn't come to an agreement, which led to me leaving via free agency to the Detroit Lions. But listen, that's professional football. And I know the landscape of college football has changed. But listen, I think Bill is going to run that thing like a professional shot. Obviously, we see that Michael Lombardi is the general manager there.
And, you know, Bill's going to implement that, that, that he's going to get in that that transfer porter and he'll manage that thing and get, you know, the top of guys that he needs in order to try to win a championship there. Yeah. Who was the first to ever enter the portal for Bill back in New England? Was it lawyer Malloy? Was it before that? Who was who's the first ever portal transfer in the history of Belichick's New England career?
Was it you? I don't think so. I don't I don't think so. I mean, listen, lawyer Malloy was a was a transfer porter.
All right. He transferred out of New England. And that's it.
Well, that's what I'm saying. Well, in the locker room, I could say, yeah, you talk about guys who are pissed off in the locker room. That reverberated for four for a couple of weeks there until we kind of steady the ship. And then we ultimately went on to win a Super Bowl that year. But listen, I think over time, I think over time, Bill Belichick learned from it.
And and he'll be just fine. I think I think it's I think it's overblown day. I mean, what do you hear on the Rich Eisen show from ESPN and its family of shows? So I'll ask a sports talk radio question here. Damien, you might actually get it on NFL Live or all many of the shows that you're doing.
You may have already gotten it. But the team that needs the one seed and the bye week and the home field advantage, the most in the playoffs in the NFC, the Lions or the Vikings, who is it? I want to say the Lions, you know, obviously we talked about all the injuries on the line, particularly the defense side of the football. I mean, they've had, you know, you know, it's just rare to see the branch of injuries that a team has sustained in the Detroit Lions. And so I don't doubt the Detroit Lions will be able to score with anyone, but you've got to be able to make stops and get stops in the postseason. And I just think when you look at the Detroit Lions and the history of that organization, this would be the first time in the history of their organization to get the number one seed to have the road through the playoffs, go through fourth field, which, by the way, it's a tremendous environment.
Anyone who hasn't gone to fourth field, it's a great environment. And so I think that Dan Campbell and company had done a great job navigating those things and basically said no excuses, no explanations for the injuries. But I think they could really use the first, you know, the number one seed in that first run by to possibly get some guys back because they're going to need it. Especially since, too, you could make the case that they appeared to be inevitable as the one seed for much of the year. And we thought it was their world until the football gods started kicking them the nards with 16 injured, reserved defenders alone and the fact that they could eventually make it through all of that and still be the one seed. After all, what I think would be some some tremendous wind at their sails. That said, they're the only undefeated team on the road in the NFL and the Vikings being the one seed for them to basically say, we started five and oh, lost two games in five days and then finished up with a 10 game win streak. And you've got to come through our house with the skull chant. That would be pretty damn potent when you think about it.
Damien, you know. It would be it would be because that Minnesota home field advantage is real. That environment is is another environment that's crazy. And listen, that that that Minnesota Vikings team, man, they are so good and kudos to, you know, Kevin O'Connell and and, you know, in their front office for putting together a roster and an environment for God to just, you know, want to be there and thrive. Obviously, we've seen the year to Sam Donald's at and rich, you know, this being a Jets fan. No one has ever doubted Sam Donald's talent.
I've always said that that was one of the one of the most talented quarterbacks that I had seen up close and personal. But he just never had the right infrastructure around him. And finally, he lands on a place in Minnesota that has all of that. He has the play caller. He has the coaches. He has the personnel around him. And now we're seeing what Sam Donald can do when he has all those things available to him.
And he's had the one that won the finest seasons of any quarterback out there. So that Minnesota Vikings team, it's real. I think they can go anywhere and win.
But if and if they get home feel advantage, boy, you talking about that? That would be a tough environment for any team to try to go in there and beat that team. So the best team in the AFC is which were you putting your marker on right now? Kansas City still. Kansas City. Listen, if you ask anyone, hey, you put your house up on the on the team that you want that you want to bet on. Are you betting against Kansas City? I'm not. I'm not doing that. Do I think they could be knocked off?
Absolutely. You know, Baltimore can go in there and knock can knock them off with the way Lamar Jackson and Derek Henry were able to run the ball. And the fact that their defense is it seemed like it's playing like the defense that we've been accustomed to seeing for Baltimore. Buffalo can do it with the way Josh Allen is doing it.
But listen, I've said it now for for a few weeks. Kansas City is starting to play tremendous football at the at the right time. It seemed like this happens almost every year with them. We've complained over and over. What's wrong with Kansas City? Particularly offense. What's going on?
Why? They're not explosive. We said this and that. And now all of a sudden, they're starting to round in the form. They got guys coming back healthy. They're able to run the ball. They play. They make clutch plays in the fourth quarter. And so, you know, for me, I'm not betting against Kansas City.
You're going to have to go in and dethrone those guys. Who's your MVP before I let you go going into the final week? Who's your MVP?
You know, Rich, I say like a few like like maybe like three or four weeks ago. I thought Josh Allen had locked up. Then Lamar Jackson like, oh, wait, wait, wait. This thing is not over. It's not over.
But I'm going to get there. I'm still going to get the edge of Josh Allen because we got to remember coming into the season. What were the expectations of the Buffalo Bills? I think most people thought the Buffalo Bills would take a little bit of a step back with all the defection on the defensive side of the football. Obviously, Stefan Diggs being traded away to the Houston Texans.
They really didn't have a number one receiver. And all Josh Allen has done is had the finest season of his career. My one complaint to Josh Allen throughout his career is this guy has always had been a Superman with the cake. But he's he's always you know, he will give it to you in the games. He will turn the ball over. Well, guess what?
He's cleaned up that as well. And so we're seeing the best of Josh Allen, you know, without a number one receiver, just going out there and just making plays. And so for me, I will get a slight edge to Josh Allen.
But listen, you can make the case again. Lamar Jackson is the best quarterback and the MVP of the league with the way he's playing because he's put up the best numbers in his career right now. But you'd still put the marker on Josh Allen, which is not a bad marker to put it down on. I'll tell you that, man.
And then there's Saquon. I mean, this is going to be a fascinating MVP vote. Damian, I appreciate the time, as always. Happy new to you. You and yours. And let's chat throughout the playoffs. Absolutely, man. Same to you. Right back at you. That's Damian Woody right here on the Rich Eisen show as we send him back into the ESPN world.

Yeah, that was extra. Now, did you, does it light up when you draft Isaiah Simmons? Yeah, the whole house lit up when we got that tick. We were fired up. I bet. You're like, fire up the coals. Fire up, you know, that probably had to happen. Who took this photo?
People want to know. Yeah, you know, you were allowed to have one IT guy there at your house. So it was one of our IT guys that took it. And he stayed in the cabana? IT guy?
He did not scare the house. Did he light the fire or did you light the fire? We're all fascinated. This is fascinating to everybody.
It is fascinating, isn't it? Yeah, I lit the fire. Okay. Go ahead, Chris. Go ahead and ask. Cliff, did you get in the pool at any point? I did not get in the pool.

Oh man, that's cool. You see, but you're too nice. I might have to be, I might have to just put the squeeze on him. You know what I mean? You don't tell him. You don't put squeeze.
What do you mean? I mean, how are you going to put the squeeze? Just tell him he doesn't really know him. You may act, you may act, you may act together, but you just don't know him. You know, I mean, we'll just, you know. I don't know. Go for it.
Go for it. It might be somebody just can't get the squeeze put on. The live FaceTime is my favorite bit. The more we can do it, the better. The live FaceTime.

Maybe tomorrow. I'm going to FaceTime Susie. She's back, actually, in LA, so give her a ring. Say hello to my wife for me. Hello. Hey, girl. Hey. Whoa. Tranquilo.
Tranquilo. Come on. I mean, I know you don't get out of the house.
I mean, I get out enough. Oh, my God. A point blind question was asked of Cliff Kingsbury. Hey, you want to do you want to be head coach again?
And he gave this answer. Do you want to be a head coach again? Yeah, I'm sure at some point. Yeah, at some point. Do you play the interview for Jobs this year? I won't comment on that, but yeah, we'll see how everything plays out. But I'm very happy here.
Yeah, this has been an awesome, awesome place and has really helped me kind of rekindle my love for the sport. Man, I love that answer. Good for you. Good for him, though, because he's the is probably like, you know, how do I answer it?
What should I say? Right. You know, you know.
Yeah. Without being like, hell, yeah, I want to be. This is kind of like, you know, I like where I'm at. We've had a great year.
The number of times I ask a question of somebody on the show, you notice sometimes I front loaded. I'm saying and I understand me asking you about, you know, your old situation makes it seem like you're not happy with your new situation. Or, you know, where I start you start talking about you left a team that you loved. You're in a new spot right now and you're talking up your running backs, your wide receivers right now quarterback. That doesn't mean you didn't like the running backs and wide receivers you had before, because you an answer like, yeah, I want to be a head coach.
Like, well, hey, I mean, you don't like coaching Jayden Daniels, right? No, it's just like you want to run your own damn program. It's more money. It's more prestige. You're the one who gets to hold the Lombardi Trophy up.
And, you know, Rex Ryan and his dad were the only sort of, you know, defensive coordinators that that that got the credit for winning Super Bowls or going to Super Bowls like like like coaches do. I don't blame them for saying that, you know, at all. And the neat part about it is that if if a gig comes along that doesn't speak to him or he's like, you know what?
I don't know if I'd be set up roster wise or this or that. I don't get this. I don't get that. Then guess what? He can pull what Ben Johnson did and go back to Washington, D.C., or stay where he is. I'm sure he's still under contract. And it's not like Jayden Daniels is going to fall off the wagon, you know, like you're still in a position. But this is exactly why, again, if you hire a head coach, in my mind, the guy you're going to want to hire more than not, unless the guy really blows your socks off, is an offensive minded head coach, because those are the ones who get poached.
You know, those are the ones who say, hey, great. We're, you know, owners of teams go a great job with Jayden Daniels. Great job with that offense. Great job making Washington or, you know, the quarterback into something that can take Washington to as many wins as they've seen since 1991.
Great job. Now be my head coach, you know. And so if I'm Chicago, I'm calling him up and saying, hey, remember that time that we all we all met with you with Ibra Flus and, you know, and we hired Shane Waldron instead? Remember that? Remember that? Well, we'd like a do over, please. And instead of the OC, we'd like you to be the HC and the OC at the same time and do for for Caleb what, you know, what you thought you were going to do for him when you first came to Chicago.
I think they I think they visited with him out in Los Angeles. Right. I don't I don't mind that answer from him.
I don't either. I mean, Cliff could come up north if he wants. I mean, the Patriots drafted him at one point. I think he's going to be a head coach at some point.
Again, it's just what's the right situation? I mean, you may not have a better quarterback than Jayden Daniels right now, so you may want to ride this out for a little bit with DQ and see how far they can take you. Listen, if they don't have a quarterback, you know, all set up for me or somebody that we can draft that I believe in or somebody that just got drafted and believe in, then Cliff Kingsbury should stay put. Tell, you know, tell the new ownership there, make make make me an offer to stay here and pay me head coaching money or close to it. And I'll still be the OC and live here and figure out the next time I can be an HC. He's he's in a great spot, man, with a great quarterback and some real solid, terrific weapons around him.
He's only 45. I mean, this coaching window is going to be open, I feel like, for a long time. I don't know why you want Gerard Mayo fired so much, Chris. You know what I mean? I just I would say that, Rich, that with all due respect, you haven't been watching the games like I have this year. That's true.
That is that that is you're you're not lying. Cooper has and he feels the same way you do. I just I just only feel like, listen, it's it's a guy that just took over for Bill. You never want to be the guy after the guy Baker Mayfield is doing a remarkable job of being the guy after Brady in in Tampa. And I guess it's easier to do that than being the guy after Brady in New England.
Mac Jones, as we all know, flamed out after a year or two. And, you know, we'll we'll we'll see. Time will tell if he can be the next golf or Darnold or or Baker somewhere else.
And we'll blame it on the coaching staff that was there with him. I don't know. I just I don't think your Patriots are going to are going to make a move on him. I really don't. I agree with you. I don't think they're going to make a move. And I think that's the wrong move. Like, again, like we talked about the other day. Yes. His plan has been in place for several years.
Situations, circumstances, plans change and you got to adjust and move on. But I don't blame Cliff Kingsbury for answering that question directly. That's a good answer. So there's words that are being said in in the world that have never been said before. As of today, you know what those words are? A probable wide receiver from the Baltimore Ravens. Those are words that never been said before. Let's not forget, guys, that before Zay Flowers and Lamar.
Right. Together, wide receivers never wanted to go to Baltimore ever. That was a place for wide receivers to go to die, essentially, or their talents would be wasted. They'd have to go somewhere else in order for them to have a terrific career at wide receiver. Steve Smith, senior going to Baltimore, kind of did his best to reverse all that. But if you remember, if you remember when Odell Beckham Jr. went to Baltimore, and that was in the midst of them trying to make sure Lamar was as happy as possible after he demanded a trade, because his contract negotiation was spinning out of control. The part of the reason why I thought they signed him, I was saying that at the time was twofold.
One, to say to Lamar, we've got somebody here for you to help ease the load for when you hopefully do sign here. And two was to basically tell people, hey, wide receivers of note will come to Baltimore. And so it was as recent as a couple of years ago with Odell being in Baltimore. Last year, that's how recent it was for Baltimore to have to put a sign out in front of their football lawn and say, hey, wide receivers are welcome. Zay Flowers today, one of nine Ravens, that's the most in the National Football League, to be named to the Pro Bowl. And he is the first Baltimore wide receiver to be a Pro Bowler.
It is unbelievable. But that kid in his second year is just dynamic. He's awesome.
He is awesome. And with all due respect to him, he didn't deserve it. Brian Thomas got absolutely snubbed. Brian Thomas, more catches, more yards, more touchdowns. Doubled his touchdowns.
It's kind of unbelievable that he didn't make it. If Lamar's an MVP, his wide receiver's got to be so bestowed. His wide receiver that's 16th in yards when Brian Thomas is 5th?
Like, what are we doing? I hate to poo-poo on him. He's had an awesome year. But it's more about pumping up BTJ, who clearly deserves it. I just don't understand how this kid gets left off. Because he's a rookie?
Because he's a rookie? Like, come on. That's absurd. Or not a lot of people watch Jacksonville football. And they just, you know. It's really too bad.
Well, you take a look at it. Nine Ravens, seven Lions, six Vikings, six Eagles. No Patrick Mahomes for the first time since he became the full-time starter in Kansas City. Lamar, Josh Allen, and Burrow are the AFC quarterbacks. You can't argue that one, right? You can't argue that?
You can't really. I mean, Pat has been awesome the second half of the year, but who are you going to take off one of those three guys? Right.
One giant, no jets. Micah Parsons made it. Again, TJ Jefferson. I've got a top five list to talk pro bowlers. You ready to do it? Sure. Top five most, I think, what's the wording I put on it right here? There we go. Top five most impressive pro bowl campaigns. Yes. So they're a little bit under the radar.
I like it. But it's very impressive that they became pro bowlers today. High five. One, two, three, four, five.
Richest top five. OK, in terms of statistics, this guy doesn't jump off the screen at you in the same way, I guess, Zay Flowers, Chris, you just said didn't have the same numbers as Brian Thomas and how Brian Thomas, the rookie out of Jacksonville, might have deserved it more than Zay Flowers due to statistics. And you could potentially say the same thing for this guy. He's one of three Green Bay Packers to make it. And Xavier McKinney would be somebody that jumps off the screen as being highly impressive coming from the Giants. Josh Jacobs coming from the Raiders.
But I'm going to go with my Wolverine right here. Rashawn Gary became a pro bowler for the first time today with six and a half sacks. And what this guy has done, he basically started ascending considerably towards pro bowl status. If you recall on that Thanksgiving win in Detroit last year when he had a trio of sacks and he really started putting the pressure on a bunch of quarterbacks.
And he has been just a stupendous passing threat. And for him to join Nick Bosa and Micah Parsons as the NFC edge rusher pro bowlers really means a lot. And Micah, TJ, became the first defensive player chosen in his first four years of his career as a pro bowler since Aaron Donald went to the pro bowl in his first 10 years of his career. So for Rashawn Gary to be mentioned in the same breath of these guys is really impressive to me.
Number four on this list is a rookie who you can't deny. Brock Bowers is a pro bowler, guys. And his numbers are just ridiculous. 108 receptions, 1144 receiving yards on the season as of right now. He just broke Mike Ditka's 63-year-old record for most receiving yards by a rookie tight end. He broke Puka Nakua's rookie record for most catches by any rookie. He broke Darren Waller's franchise record for catches by anybody in a season. He's had as many catches as he's gotten thrown to him by three quarterbacks, Gardner Minshew, Aidan O'Connell, and Desmond Ritter.
So it's not been some consistent pro bowl quarterback finding him. And the fact that he is the starter over Travis Kelce, who I understand you could say didn't have the numbers and the statistics, but part of the pro bowl vote is a peer vote and it's also a popular fan vote. And Travis Kelce, one would think, would have the popular fan vote. And this rookie, Brock Bowers, is the starting pro bowl tight end over Travis Kelce.
That is impressive. Number three is another tight end, guys. 104 catches, his first 1,000-yard season, and he's a Walter Payton Man of the Year from the Arizona Cardinals. I'm going Trey McBride here.
He's been spectacular. And he needs three more receptions to pass George Kittle and Jimmy Graham for the most receptions in his first three seasons all-time. That's something that I would think Brock Bowers will run down in a couple of years from now. And his 1,000-yard season as a tight end for the Arizona Cardinals, the only other Arizona tight end to ever be named a pro bowler is a Hall of Famer Jackie Smith. And just seeing this guy hang his head on Saturday night because the fastball that Kyler Murray threw went off of his head for a remarkable interception from Akela Witherspoon.
I just felt for this kid that he would be such a pro and such a teammate that he would hang his head and put something like that on him. I just couldn't be more impressed, and I'm pleased that he's a pro bowler and he's the guy. His other pro bowler is George Kittle, so that says a mouthful right there in the NFC.
Number two on this list, guys. Six Philadelphia Eagles are in the Pro Bowl. Now, you had mentioned before, Chris, that Cam Juergens made it, correct?
Yes. And he's the guy that one would think would never have made it because Jason Kelce left such large shoes to fill. And I thought about putting Cam Juergens here as one of the six pro bowlers for the Eagles, but instead I'm going to use this spot on a linebacker, Zach Bond, being a pro bowler man. And he signed a one year deal to spend some time as an edge rusher and a special teamer, as he was in New England.
A lot of folks in New Orleans, pardon me, a lot of folks thought that he would be that for Philadelphia. Certainly since in the three years he had with the Saints, two sacks and 88 tackles in three years with the Saints. This year for the Philadelphia Eagles, three and a half sacks, 151 tackles. That's fourth in the NFL. He's had a fumble recovery, an interception and five force fumbles. He's three days after his 28th birthday.
So he's not some young spring chicken. And the middle linebackers for the NFC in the Pro Bowl are Fred Warner and this guy who the Eagles signed to a 1.6 million dollar deal. And the other middle linebackers in the AFC are Roquan Smith and Zaire Franklin. Zach Bond has put himself in some really select company and that is beyond impressive.
He's number two on my list. Oh, how he made a great deal. Shocker. Yeah, I know. Right. And Jalen Carter is a first time pro bowler.
But that, I got to, you know, to be honest, was it's kind of expected. Zach Bond has just been a revelation since the opening night when he ended the night for the Packers in Brazil. And everyone's like, who the hell is this guy? Well, he's a pro bowl first team pro bowler. It's really unbelievable.
Number one on the list, though, I think is is obvious. It's Sam Darnold. Sam Darnold is an NFC quarterback pro bowler. Sixty eight percent of his passes have been completed.
Forty one hundred fifty three yards. Thirty five touchdowns. He leads the NFL with 13 games of a hundred or passer rating or better that. And if he does that against the Lions, he would tie Aaron Rodgers for the single season record there. What he has done in his opportunity for the Minnesota Vikings is beyond impressive. And he tops my top five pro bowlers.
This one's for you, TJ, for the Dallas Cowboys. I'm serious on this one. And I think you you think you know what I'm doing right now, right? You think I'm going to pop up the squirrel here? Oh, man, I was like, come on. I am not doing that. Seriously. No, I am. I am not doing that.
I am. I'm going with the with the guy who is allowed just 10 pressures in one on one pass blocking matchups for three and a half percent pressure rate. When this guy got drafted, everyone's thinking, why the hell are they doing this?
This kid out of Tulsa. Why are they using a first round draft choice on Tyler Smith? And he has just been he's been awesome. He's been one of the best left guards in the National Football League. He has done is exactly what they thought he could do. And very few people thought he could do right now. Tyler Smith's a pro bowler. And I think that is impressive.
T.J. Jefferson. I agree. I agree. See, no squirrel. I'm a man. I'm truly amazed. I expected a band to come in here, some stupid balloons or some flowers to pop up in. I don't know that.
That may be Carl Anthony Townsend's cooked up for you. But, you know, there you go. But one of my favorites, the squirrel. I'll tell you, Tyler Smith has been a revelation for, you know, and certainly with, you know, Zach Martin going out and going down and that offensive line having a lot of moving parts.
That guy has been he's been an anchor sitting right there in the interior. So that's my top five list. I will take a break. We'll wrap up the show here from my digs in Utah. I'm going to run off to the airport and come back and hang out with you guys on Friday. This is the Rich Eisen Show, our first show of twenty twenty five. Let's freaking go. The Jim Rohn show.
Follow and listen on your favorite platform. You met Lala Kent on Vanderpump Rules. Now, Lala and her friends share everything on Give Them Lala. Bagel.
Everybody says it is ruined by a proposal story. How Jason proposed. And she was like, he brought in a bunch of bagels. I was like, I have to stop. I will punch you in the throat. If you ever tell this story again and call it a bagel. Let me tell you now, when I tell the story, I go, he went and got breakfast. There you go.
Bagels. Watch what Lala is talking about on YouTube or search for Give Them Lala wherever you listen. So apparently just put up on the screen, Hoskins. Do you guys see this?
I had not heard about it, but check it out. You just pop it up there. There you go. Oh, yeah. Jim Harbaugh lookalike competition. Yeah, I just saw I saw this like an hour ago and I'm trying to convince Del Tufo to go and enter the contest. Why not? I'm not going to beat Jim Harbaugh.
What do you mean? Are you kidding me? You could put on some you could put on the light blue, the bolt up, and I think you would, you know, you could pass. There's not a chance I could do Jim Harbaugh. I couldn't. No way. Come on. I'm not tall. You got to be tall. I am.
That's the point. You have khakis. I put on a light blue shirt. I mean, I may have a Chargers hat. I probably have anything I need at home. I think you should use me. Mike, I can outfit you in Michigan gear. Even better.
I think you should do this. Even better. I could do the Michigan. Oh, yeah. Michigan Harbor. I could do I could do it.
Would you do that? I got a whistle. I got it all. January 10th, 6 p.m. Is that what I saw on that on that week? Is that the 10th? It's like it's next Friday. Friday. Next Friday. Next Friday. Six o'clock.
Six o'clock in the valley. Come on. I'm not going to Northern California.
Come on now. I don't go. Never going to see that. I don't go over the hill. You're never going to do that now. Why are they doing in the valley?
What do we do? Yeah, I don't know. It's right here. It was here. I go.
Oh, yeah. He'd go if it was right there, though. I would. Mike, that would be good for the show. That would be good for the show.
For the show. If you go, I win. We'll just get some content.
We'll get some content. Come on. Bring your bring your squirrel. I'll meet there.
No, come on. Now I'll come in. I would rent an RV and drive in and I win. I would win because that's exactly what I would. I'd go right in an RV. Do it. It's a good place to win.
Yeah, I'd have to win. Well done. Life insurance. You know you need it, but maybe you think you can't afford it or it's too complicated or you don't want to deal with medical exams.
Well, that has all changed with ethos. With ethos, you just go online, answer a few simple health questions. And in as little as 10 minutes, you could get up to two million dollars in term life coverage with plans starting at around two dollars a day.

That's try e t h o s. Dot com. All right. Anything from today that you want to bring up? Anything that any of our guests said that you want to bring up? You want to revisit anything that Damien Woody said? I know you're not fans of of a fan of of the head coach of New England Stan.
I'm tap dancing here to see if you guys have anything to say. Do you think this is it for Ram Rogers? Are we seeing the last of 12 on Sunday?
I guess he's wearing eight this year. I don't think that the Jets are going to bring him back. Do you want them to run it back?
No. OK. No, I think he's being also magnanimous in saying that these two years were the best years of his life. And, you know, he's no he's no, you know, dummy. And he knows they could read the writing on the wall and whoever is going to come in here is going to have a conversation and all of that sort of stuff. I can't imagine these last two years with his Achilles blowing out and then everything else on the field. He must be referring to off the field stuff and how he's he was able to move to New York or New Jersey and live that life and, you know, clear his head or whatever. But he also said he needs a mental break.
And I heard everything he had to say. It's just there's there's no reason to to to run it back. I just don't I just don't think there's any it just didn't work. It didn't work. And it's time for a new person to come in with a whole new quarterback set up in a whole new situation.
And, you know, I don't know. You know, I guess that would be a champagne problem that the Jets drafted somebody. And that person who could potentially go ahead and start for them has to sit because Rogers is having a renaissance at age 41. It just it just didn't work. It didn't work. The plan was to have, you know, these kids that were needed, some grown up to have the grown up and Rogers come in and start winning football games and he blows his Achilles out.
And then this year was a total complete disaster that that was made worse by firing the coach in week five. And I don't know why would Rogers want to have any part of that? I don't know. Unless he wants to keep playing and there's nobody else that would take him right. Paying the amount of money that he'd have to be paid based on whatever needs to be negotiated on his contract.
Ding, ding. Yeah, he will keep I mean, despite the record, he played pretty decently. I mean, things didn't go well for the Jets this year, but if you look at his numbers, the numbers aren't awful. But there were times when when he would make the mistake and it would be backbreaking than the other mistakes that were made around him. You know, and then and then there would be situations like Mike Williams and he under threw him or or something happened in London where he threw that interception at the end of that game. He's not he's not blameless. He's not faultless in this whole situation. But it was wild to hear Damian Woody call him a potential bridge quarterback.
It was like, whoa. I'm why would he want to do that? What's the point of it? Unless he loves it so much and he can't quit it. You know, he's no doubt he has a million opportunities. I'd imagine to do whatever the hell he wants to do, whether it's whether it's in the real world in politics or whatever he wants to do. I just don't I don't know why he would want to come back to the Jets unless it's his only option. He wants to continue playing football and why the Jets would want to turn the page on something completely new with a new GM and a new and a new coach. And the question is, is that person going to want Aaron Rodgers? Is that going to be even a conversation that you have in the in the meetings to hire him? And then again, I just can't believe if Rodgers did have a week five situation, he needed to dodge a bullet for at two and two to have his job saved by a coach who then gets fired the next week. And then he wants to give the interim a game ball, but can't because it's already beginning to be given out by his owner's son to another member of the Jets. I mean, these are just little things that just keep building up at age 41.
You'd be like, why do I want to do this anymore? You know what I mean? I don't have an answer to this question. We will see what the conversation is when the Jets do finally get a coach and a general manager, which we're probably going to be two to three weeks away from because they have to be sitting back and waiting for somebody that's going to go deep into the playoffs.
One would think. But I'm looking at, you know, number eight and I'm thinking this is going to be his last snaps for the Jets. That's the way I'm thinking.
I'm looking at. But I don't have any insight. And I'm sure you would sit there and say nobody does until he comes up with whatever decision. He did joke saying he will not need a darkness retreat this time.
Oh, he was 90 percent retired last time before the darkness. Look at you lighten my fire up before the end of this. All right. Well done, guys.
Thank you for being patient. I actually got a couple of like a day of R&R. I went tubing yesterday. Sorry. Take any falls. You have no earthly idea.
It's one of those where I woke up today and I'm like, why is my right calf suddenly hurt? No, I get it. All right.
Father of the year, man. Go to all of the year. Go, dogs. OK. Yeah. Enjoy tonight's game. We'll talk about it. We'll definitely talk about it on Friday show. That'll wrap it up for me in Utah. We'll be back to wrap up this show on The Rich Eisen Show Roku Channel in a moment.
Hey, it's Rich Eisen here. Join me and my compadre, Chris Brockman, every Monday on the Overreaction Monday podcast. You're also saying the record's going to go down.
I'm saying the record's going down anyway. I don't think you're off on this at all. Like you're spot on. I don't think this is an overreaction because we have no idea what we're reacting to. Come react or overreact with us. Overreaction Monday. Follow and listen on your favorite platform. It's game over. Over, man.
