The Chicago Bears' head coaching position is open after Matt Eberfluss' firing, and the team may be looking for a new head coach with an offensive mind, such as Ben Johnson or Lane Kiffin, who has a history of turning around struggling offenses.

Game time. Being a marketer is no sweat. You just have to manage dozens of channels, launch hundreds of campaigns, score thousands of leads, and okay, fine, it's a lot of sweat. Unless you have HubSpot's AI-powered marketing tools to help you do all that and more.

Get started at HubSpot.com slash marketers. Oh my God, you guys are my favorite. This is the Rich Eizen Show. Rich Eizen. I know what I'm talking about.

That's the headline. The Rich Eizen Show with guest host, Dan Schwartzman. OMG.

Live from the Rich Eizen Show studio in Los Angeles. Oh my gosh. And now sitting in for Rich, it's Dan Schwartzman. Williams at the line, tapping his head. We're down to 15 seconds here. Caleb Williams out of the shotgun, third and long. Time is moving. Got to go under 10 seconds now.

Oh my goodness. Back to Williams. He's ready to throw.

He'll throw it down the middle of the field. Incomplete at the horn. The game is over. The Bears won't even get to fourth down. They leave Detroit with a timeout in their pocket and the Lions for the first time since 16 have won on Thanksgiving. 23-20 the final score. How in the world can that happen? Jason Benetti with a call there. Westwood won sports.

The ending of that wacky and wild Lions 23-20 win over the Chicago Bears and the end result of the poor clock management, the mismanagement of that clock. Breaking news a while back. It is official. Matt Eberfluss is unemployed. The Chicago Bears have fired the head coach and Josh Alper who was joining us from Pro Football Talk in the last segment. He said, you know, it's amazing considering they allowed him to hold that Zoom press conference this morning and in that press conference he said he was, quote, confident he was going to be coaching December 8th against the 49ers.

That's also poor clock management on the part of the front office and ownership group of the Chicago Bears. Do they really have to meet after yesterday's debacle to decide do we keep Eberfluss or not? I mean, I think it was fairly obvious and anybody who watched that game has to say to themselves, you can't let him continue being a head coach after that, right?

So how do you let him hold that press conference today? Like, you're putting, look, again, I don't want to see people get fired. No one wants to see people get fired, especially with the holidays here, right? Like the guy, poor guy, coaches on Thanksgiving and gets fired on Black Friday. I'm not going to cry for the guy. He's made millions of dollars and he's got years left, I'm sure, on that contract. Didn't finish out three years and most guys signed what, five-year contract?

So he's got a few million dollars still coming his way if he doesn't want to do anything for the next couple of years except get up, go play golf, come home and catch up on his latest, you know, Netflix and Amazon Prime and Hulu and all those channels and all the series and Apple Plus. Don't want to leave them out. Yellowstone? I haven't watched it. It's good, right?

I've never watched it. Very good. Yeah. Yeah, I've been on that Slow Horses, by the way, on Apple. That's really good. Oh, so good. Another one I like is Tracker. I like Tracker.

Emily in Paris. That's the way to go, my friend. But we digress.

No, I know. I gotta be honest. My wife and obviously I have a 14-year-old and they are watching and I actually kind of joke like, ah, how do you watch that nonsense? And then I actually started watching it and I'm not going to lie, it's actually pretty good. If you like Paris, you're going to love it. Like it makes the city, and I love Paris, but like it makes the city look so amazing. You're like, oh, I want to go back. So you keep watching the show just to see the scenes of the city and the streets and all that.

And also, I mean, Lily Collins is also fun to watch. So yeah, anyway, I digress. But now the Bears have a job opening and we talked about it with Josh Alper here, okay? If you look at the job openings that we know are out there, the Jets will be in a market for a new head coach. The Raiders may be in the market for a new head coach, especially after they fall to two and ten this afternoon. And it could be the Chador Sanders, Deion Sanders thing. Possible, but there's no chance you guys win in Kansas City this afternoon, just so you know.

Hey, hey. And at this point, why would you want to, right? Like at this point, do you want that number one pick so you can take a draft in any direction you want?

Like you don't want the Raiders to win. They're out, right? They're not making the playoffs. Exactly, yeah. Right.

Unbelievable. Jacksonville may be looking for a new head coach. I'm not sure Doug Peterson survives this debacle of a season and it's been bad there, by the way. You look around, you know, New Orleans, they'll be in the market. I mean, Carolina, right?

I mean, there's going to be opportunities, openings there. And while you might look at Jacksonville at Cleveland, who knows? But if you look at the, you know, the opening in Jacksonville, you might say that's the best one because you have Trevor Lawrence. But my argument against that is you have Trevor Lawrence. He's not that good, A, and he's already costing you a fortune, right? The best time to win in the NFL is when you have a quarterback not making a ton of money yet so you can add weapons around him.

News to you, Caleb Williams is a rookie. He's making what, you know, 10 mil, whatever it is. It's peanuts right now in the NFL, especially at the quarterback position. You can actually build around him for the next couple of years because he's not taking up a large chunk of your salary cap the way that a Trevor Lawrence is making what, 60 million is?

55, 60, whatever the number is. It's a heck of a lot of money for a guy that's accomplished literally nothing in the NFL right now. And to this point in his career, you can say he's a disappointment. And amazingly, Art, he's the last guy from that first round of that draft who's holding on with his team, right? Zach Wilson, gone from the Jets, number two pick. Trey Lance, people forget him. He was the number three pick. Mack Jones, gone from the Patriots.

Justin Fields, already gone from the Bears. Trevor Lawrence is like the last holdout. He's the one guarding that flag with the enemy approaching from all sides and he's running out of bullets. That's a good, oh man, that's a good visionary.

But that's what it is. He's the last guy in there. No one's left in that foxhole except Trevor Lawrence. And he's probably the only one remaining because he had one pretty good year and he's the number one pick in that draft and still people look back and say, oh, look what he did in college rather than look what he's doing in the NFL and it's not enough to be good enough to win games. So, you know, the question is, do you want that Jacksonville job if it opens up because you have yourself Trevor Lawrence? Do you want a job like the Jets or, you know, New Orleans that potentially will finish with a top three to five draft pick where you can kind of draft a quarterback, although this draft doesn't exactly seem to have those franchise altering quarterbacks that we believe other drafts have, unless you're a fan of Sanders or Ward or Quinn Ewers or somebody like that, Jalen Milro, whoever it might be, although consensus is none of those guys truly are generational type of players at that position.

Again, that means nothing. Generational guys like Trevor Lawrence don't amount to as much and, you know, a Bo Nix has been very good for Denver. No one thought he deserved to be drafted by Denver where he was drafted in this past draft and he's got them at seven and five not right now. They've won two in a row. They're playing good football.

Or do you look at the Bears job and say, wow, you know, if I'm Ben Johnson, the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator, who's going to be the hottest commodity out there in the head coaching market and teams will throw themselves at his feet and say, please come help my team because it's an offensive league. He seems to be that, you know, brilliant young offensive mind that since he's taken over as the offensive coordinator, what 2022, I believe it was, has led them to two top five offenses. And once again, they're playing great football right now, killing it. They put up 383 points so far this season, far and away right now, except for the Baltimore Ravens who are right by them. No one's even in that vicinity or ballpark in terms of points scored.

They've been great. So as crazy as it is to say this, because the Bears have been where quarterbacks go to die and quarterbacks get drafted and amount to literally nothing. The truth is, I think the Chicago job might be the best job out there right now in terms of no, no openings and potential openings at the head coaching position.

I'll throw it out to you out there. If you are Ben Johnson, again, hottest commodity on that head coaching openings list at this point, which of these jobs that we're talking about? Jets? Jacksonville? We can throw Tennessee in there, although they may not go in that direction.

It's only been what, a year? So I don't think they make a move. Throw in Vegas.

I'm not sure Pierce is going to survive there. The Giants with Brian Dabble, Mike McCarthy as well with Dallas. And we can throw that out, but you know, it's kind of simple to Trevor Lawrence, except Dak Prescott has accomplished a bit more than Trevor Lawrence, but he's eating $60 million of your salary cap for the next three years.

And he's not worth that money. The Saints job, the Panthers job, whatever you throw that there too, if you want to, they, they may not make a change. It's been quick for them as well, which is the best job in your book. If you are the hottest head coaching candidate in the NFL right now, 8 4 4 2 0 4, raise your hand 4 4 2 0 4 rich 8 4 4 2 0 4 7 4 2 4 art. It's gotta be Chicago. They got the offensive players there.

They do. It's the bears. It's the bears.

Oh, June's a DJ Moore wide receiver. They have to, you know, spend some money on that offensive line. Maybe that's where you use the draft capital. They're going to have a high draft pick, right?

They're four and eight. They can have a top 10 draft pick. Most likely draft the top or the second mess offensive tackle.

Get yourself that bookend. Start building a line, you know, go outside a couple of big free agents at the position, draft yourself a tech, a tackle, and there you have it. Protect Caleb Williams, Caleb Williams, give him time to find the wide receivers. You got stars at the wide receiver position. It's a good job.

It really is a good job. No head coach, unless you are incredibly arrogant and have a big ego, which a lot of them have, by the way, wants to go into position, especially in a weak quarterback draft and say, aha, I'm going to draft a kid out of college and I'm going to mold him in my system and he's going to be a superstar. And not only do they have wide receivers, I mean, DeAndre Swift is good. It's great running back. Rush rover, 1,000 yard in Philly last year. And this year he's doing a fairly good job with them. Not a, you know, with the very porous offensive line, they're not exactly opening up a ton of holes for him. And with a rookie quarterback, a lot of times teams will play the run because, hey, let the rookie quarterback beat you, right?

So I think Swift's done a very nice job. He's not that old. By the way, you can find running backs later in drafts anyway. I mean, Derek Henry, second round pick. Breece Hall, second round pick. I understand Saquon was a high first round pick. Josh Jacobs was a first round pick, but there's plenty of guys who were not first round picks at the running back position.

They're considered more a dime a dozen now. So you can get yourself a quality player later in a draft, by the way. So I think the Bears job is the best job that is out there. I like what we did there. That's what the Bears will be saying after they bring in a head coach.

Yeah, exactly. I like what we did there. We got ourselves the guy we wanted.

But then you look at it and you say to yourself, is that the organization I want to go to? And that's where it can seem like the Jets get hurt in terms of finding a head coaching candidate. When Robert Sala decided, what, three, four years ago to go coach the Jets, people were like, wow, he chose to go there. Because he was a hot name. Remember, he was coming off having the, you know, he was the head coach of the Jets. He was a hot name. Remember, he was coming off having a couple of great seasons as the defensive coordinator with the 49ers.

He was the hot guy that coaching cycle. And he wanted to go to New York. Look, there is appeal to come be the head coach of the New York Jets.

There is appeal. New York is the number one market in the USA. It's the number one media market. Look, I live in New York. I grew up in New York. I've been to other parts of the country, don't get me wrong. New York's a fun place.

There's a lot to do, right? You and the wife and young kids, if you're a head coach, you want to go in on a, you know, in the off season, you want to go do a Broadway show, there you have it. You want to go try a different restaurant every single day of the year and never eat the same, you know, never eat at the same place. Or if you want to take a vacation in the Poconos, for example. Or, yeah, well, you can rent my house. But still, if you want to take a vacation in the Poconos or, you know, you want to go or whatever, it's right here.

There's a lot to do. So I understand the appeal of that. But then again, you're taking over an organization that has the longest playoff drought in all four major sports, I believe it is at this point. And you may be inheriting a 41-year-old quarterback that might be kind of hard to coach, but you may have a high draft picket if you like one of these young quarterbacks, boom, there you have it.

So maybe that's the appeal for a guy like Ben Johnson. But ownership there, Woody Johnson hasn't won squat. People question his ownership abilities considering the struggles they've had as an organization since he took over. When's the last time the Jets won a Super Bowl?

They've won once. Joe Namath. Man. 1968, right?

Wow. At least, look, I tell my Buffalo Bills good friends who likes to rub it in. Oh, the Bills. I'm like, hey, how many Super Bowls do you guys have in the trophy case in Orchard Park?

Ah, that's right. None. None. And they went to four in a row. Four in a row. Oh, wide right.

Laces out, Dan. Wide right. Yeah, wide right. Scott Norwood. Poor guy.

Scott Norwood. Yeah. Not good. Yeah.

Yeah. He had that. Giants were lucky to win that one, but they did. Jim Kelly. I loved Jim Kelly. I loved Jim Kelly. First of all, by the way, how do you not win a Super Bowl with Hall of Famer Jim Kelly, Hall of Famer Thurman Thomas, Thurman Thomas, Hall of Famer Andre Reid? A defense with what, Cornelius Bennett, Bruce Smith, Bruce Smith.

I mean, there was so much. Marv Levy, Hall of Fame coach. How do you not win one Super Bowl with that time? You're talking a team that had at least three Hall of Fame players. I'm probably for at least four Hall of Fame players that we know of.

If you comb the roster, there might be another one somewhere there. Absolutely. Cornelius Bennett was a perennial All-Pro. Linebacker. Hall of Fame.

Yeah, he's great. Or 58, I think. 56 or 58.

56, I think. It's great teams. One kicker away from winning a Super Bowl.

So, there's nothing in the trophy case in Orchard Park. That's my only thing I can say about a Bills fan. And I do love Josh Allen. One of the nicest guys you will ever meet, Art. Really one of the nicest guys. I hope they beat the Chiefs in the AFC Championship.

I'm rooting for them. Quick story here. We're up against a break, but quick story here. I've met Josh a couple of times. I've had the pleasure of interviewing him. And I'm a Jet fan, so I don't like the Bills.

And I don't like Bills players. But I sat down with him and I've talked to him a couple of times. And one time, he's just such a nice gentleman, right? Great guy. I told him.

This is when it was a 16-game season. I said, Josh, I got to tell you something. I've really enjoyed the opportunities we've had to sit down and talk. And I got to tell you, I'm a big fan. But I hope you win 14 weeks of an NFL season. The other two weeks, I hope you lose. But I'll root for you for 14 games.

That's right. Twice against the Jets. He understood it because I let him know I'm a Jet fan. He laughed.

He liked that. Really a nice guy. Easy guy to root for.

And it pains me because I don't like the Bills because I'm a Jet fan and I don't like anybody else in the AFC East. But man, if you ever have an opportunity, like he doesn't get in trouble, right? You never hear a bad thing about Josh Allen. There's no DUI. There's nothing about him staying out late, missing practice, or being the last one there, first one out the door. You don't hear a bad peep about Josh Allen. And the opportunities I've had, he's just kind of lived up to being the guy that you think he is. Just a really, really good dude.

All right, we'll continue on. What's the best head coaching position that's either open now that we know of or will be opening up in our minds? Is it the Bears? Because of the fact you have that young, talented quarterback that's not eating up your salary cap, at least for a few more years. 844-204-RICH, that's 844-204-7424. That's 8442047424. I'm of course sitting at the Rich Eisen Show desk furnished by Grainger with supplies and solutions for every industry. Grainger has the right product for you.

Call, click Grainger.com or just stop by. Matt Everfluce out. As a head coach of the Chicago Bears, really no surprise he was sadly on the clock in terms of how much longer he would last here with that clock management debacle yesterday. Again, Matt Everfluce out as a head coach of the Chicago Bears. The job opens up just what six weeks or seven weeks after the Jets job opened up with the firing of Robert Sala. So a couple of organizations that are flailing haven't done much in recent years. Jets case a decade and a half.

A couple of jobs opening which is the best one that's out there. Let me give you a name. I know this sounds crazy and he may have burned a lot of bridges and art. I'm sure you're not a fan of this name based on his tenure with your organization. I'm not talking about John Gruden. I'm sick and tired of people giving John Gruden all this credit. He won a Super Bowl in Tampa but he took over a team that was already fully loaded from Tony Dungy, let's not forget. And every year after that Super Bowl win they just got progressively worse until he got fired. So I don't understand the love for John Gruden as if he really accomplished a heck of a lot on his own. I'm going to throw out a name here because I think he's quite the offensive mind. I'm going to start giving you some clues here and this might again leave a very nasty taste in your mouth. But if it wasn't for this name Nick Saban his tenure at Alabama especially the last what eight years or so or five years or so would have probably been a little different because he's just kind of running an ancient offense and it wasn't exactly scoring a ton of points and this young man came in needed a job.

Saban gave him a job, turned around that offense, modernized it, putting up tons of points, Heisman Trophy running backs, quarterbacks drafted in the first and second round, Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa, Bryce Young guys like this. You know who I'm talking about don't you Art? Yes I do.

You do. Mr. Kiffin. Yeah. Doing wonders at Ole Miss by the way right? I mean Ole Miss is not a place you win a lot of games. They're not Alabama. They're not LSU.

They're not Georgia. Florida can turn things around faster than Ole Miss. But Lane Kiffin turned around Alabama's offense under Nick Saban. He did.

Gotta get as much as he's unlikable. He did a heck of a job turning around that offense and modernizing what to me was kind of failing with what Nick Saban was doing. Now Saban obviously was a great defensive mind but he needed that jolt offensively. He knew it and that's why he brought in Lane Kiffin who needed a job. Because what happened in Tennessee was a disaster.

What happened with the Raiders is a disaster. But Lane Kiffin's a bit older now and maybe he's burned too many bridges to get that opportunity. But I'm telling you the guy knows offense right? All right again nasty taste in your mouth. I understand that. It's disgusting to think about and you should you know I should wash my mouth out with soap for just uttering the name Lane Kiffin.

Absolutely yeah. But once again you can't tell me I'm wrong here. The guy knows offense. What is the NFL today?

It's an offensive minded game right? I remember the years when it was maybe one or two guys throwing for 4,000 yards in the season. Remember those days? Remember when Don Magic Mikowski the Magic Man threw for 4,000 yards at the Green Bay Packers like 25, 30 years ago. Brett Favre right before Brett Favre. Right before Brett Favre and no one else threw for 4,000 yards.

That was unbelievable. Dan Marino threw for 5,000 yards in what the 80s and no one thought that could get touched because it was so radical back then. But you look at stats today in the NFL if you don't throw for 4,000 yards something's wrong with you.

Like you're not going to get hit like you're not doing your job. You know how many guys are on pace to throw for 4,000 yards this year already in the NFL? You're talking probably half the quarterbacks in the NFL today are on pace to throw for 4,000 plus yards. At least 11 or 12 starters are going to throw for 4,000 yards. You're going to have guys throwing for potentially 5,000 maybe not 5,000 this year like you've had in the past because Patrick Mahomes for instance isn't throwing for as many yards as you're accustomed to seeing. He's kind of struggled this year. It's actually not been a very good season for Mahomes despite the fact that the team is doing so well.

So it's an offensive-minded league. You know wide receivers were considered for a long time a dime a dozen right? You don't want to pay you didn't want to pay wide receivers a ton of money. Well news to you. Look at the money wide receivers are getting now.

C.D. Lamb scored a four-year deal for like 134 million dollars or so from the Cowboys. Justin Jefferson, Jamar Chase, Garrett Wilson when he becomes eligible to get that extension. The amount of money wide receivers are bringing in now is a ton.

Why? Because it's an offensive-passing league right now. So when push comes to shove you want a guy that knows offense. Why is Ben Johnson the highest the hottest commodity on that head coaching market? The Detroit Lions offensive coordinator.

I'll tell you why. Because the Lions are playing great football and they score a ton of points. And Art you're a Raiders fan but you know about L.A. of course you're based out there. Look what he's done with Jared Goff who was a failure at the Raiders after that one season. The Rams. Right through third excuse me the Rams after the first couple of seasons he had in the NFL. He you know his last year last couple years at the Rams he wasn't any good. That's why they gained the change of scenery in this and since Ben Johnson's been the head coach he's been tremendous a quarterback. So again the name Lane Kiffin might disgust some of you and I'm not saying he's gonna be a guy that gets a head coaching job but when teams are getting better and better and better but when teams are desperate to score points Art take yourself out of the mentality of being a Raiders fan and remembering your failures. There's no way there's no way the guy lasted one year with the Raiders. It was a bad year I understand it was a bad year but what he has done in the college ranks since I'm telling you guy knows offense.

Innovative offensive player. Maybe he's just an OC. Maybe he's not a head coach. Some guys are just better to be coordinators, right? Robert Salah is just a better defensive coordinator than he is a head coach. Todd Bowles, surprised he's still there. I mean look I love Todd Bowles as a person. I thought he was a horrendous coach with the Jets. I think he's average with Tampa Bay. To me he's just a great defensive coordinator masquerading as a head coach.

How many other guys have we seen? You know Brian Dabel was awesome for Josh Allen as the OC of the Buffalo Bills and except for one season with the Giants he's been well fairly average or below average as the head coach there. So you know all I'm saying is you might want to give that guy a chance if you believe that he can turn your offensive round in a league that's predicated on scoring points at this point. You could have a great defense. Look the Ravens always had a great defense and they got pretty good quarterback play from a guy like Trent Dilfer or a guy like Joe Flacco. They weren't great quarterbacks. They weren't perennial all pros. They weren't guys that you would say were top 10 quarterbacks in the NFL in their career, right? Flacco had that one amazing postseason run the year they won the Super Bowl.

He was fantastic. But that team for instance was always a defensive-minded team. They won games because of the defense. We talked about the 85 Bears. It wasn't Jim McMahon. Yeah, they had Walter Payton but that defense was phenomenal out of this world.

One of the greatest, maybe the greatest. So my whole point is in a league where you got to score points, I think Lane Kiffin gets a look, maybe a sniff. Because he got fired so much? He got fired from USC. He got fired from the Raiders.

What else? I mean on his resume he tells you he's a good quarterback or a good coach. Because he knows offense. He keeps getting fired. Okay, but at some point maybe he does wake up.

I think that's the hope people would have, right? I think the hope people have is has he grown up now? Has he learned his lesson? Is he humbled? Oh my gosh. Having to go, what, hat in hand to Alabama?

Maybe that woke him up. This is a league of second chances if you can win games or if teams think that you could win games. Michael Vick spent two years in jail but then obviously teams need quarterbacks.

He comes out, he gets a job and flourishes. Plexico Burris goes to jail but when you're 6'5 and a really good wide receiver, somebody's going to give you an opportunity when you come out of jail. Kareem Hunt.

Kareem Hunt gets another opportunity because he led the league in rushing one year, right? My whole point is this is a forgiving league if they think you can help win games or if they think you're a master of some craft and Lane Kiffin seems to be a master of figuring out how to run innovative offenses. I think it's different between players and coaches though.

I don't think so. Look, unless you're a criminal as a head coach or you gambled on the sport or you did something so ridiculously terrible that no team can survive bringing you in as a head coach, just because you were a jerk or a you-know-what hole or because you got fired or you had an ego or turned people off when you were younger and just not a good person, the older you get maybe you've been humbled I think is the way people look at it. It's easy to sell Lane Kiffin. Okay, so I bring him to a press conference and people are saying, oh my goodness, this guy got fired at USC. He left Tennessee in a lurch. He got fired by the Raiders. Everywhere this guy has gone it's been turmoil and I would say, yeah, but look what he did to Alabama's offense. Look what he has done to a dormant Ole Miss offense. They're a legit good team now. They're recruiting well. People see that they can go there, put up points, put up numbers, get themselves ready for the NFL. He learned his lesson.

We did our homework. We did our background checks on Lane Kiffin. This is not the same guy that was 30 some odd years old and a jerk when he was a head coach of the Raiders or Tennessee or USC. You know what I'm saying? That's all I'm saying is I'm giving you the answers, Art, that an owner or a GM can give the press at a press conference when he's questioned why would you bring this guy in who has burned bridges and has had that lack of success earlier.

Well, he did well in the last six or seven years is the answer in a league where you have to score points. You know what I'm saying? I'm playing devil's advocate here, Art. I know you are and I'm not taking it. I don't like the food that you're giving me. Yeah, but how hungry are you?

That's the question, right? If you're hungry, you can eat anything, Art. Yeah, if I'm a desperate program, yeah, maybe. If you're thirsty, I'm gonna give you water that's cloudy. You're gonna drink it, right? Sure. Okay.

People do desperate things in desperate situations. Yeah, if you spend a day in Saudi Arabia at 128 degrees, yeah, I'll want water. There you go and you've done that. I've done that. I haven't.

I have no intention to do so. The best day I've ever spent on this earth is Saudi Arabia. 128 degrees. That's a good day, by the way. Luckily, I was 23 years old. And then the sandstorm's hit and that really makes it really nice. And then you have to clean all your radio equipment. Well, radio's a little different now, I think, right?

A little smaller, a little bit more compact, a little easier to use than the big box you put on your back. Yeah, we don't have to set up that 30-foot lip antenna anymore. Thank you for your service, my friend. Oh, you're welcome. There you have it.

So, my whole point is, when you are desperate, you will do whatever it takes if you think the guy can turn your fortunes around. If you're the Jets, okay, you've scored 204 points in 11 games. If you are the... Patriots obviously aren't going to make a move.

They just brought in a head coach this year, Tron Mayo. But if you are Jacksonville, you've put up 208 points in 11 games. Or you're Las Vegas, you've only put up 206 points in 11 games.

Or the Giants, who have scored a whopping 183 points in 12 games. You get the gist? The fact is, you are desperate to drink water. You are desperate to eat stale, moldy bread because you have nothing right now. And you need the sustenance. You need to survive. And maybe that survival is a guy that makes you gag a little bit. But if you think he can turn your offense around from scoring less than 20 points a game to scoring 30 points a game and winning games, and you have to sum to a fan base or a media because of his history, I get it.

It's not pleasant. But then again, maybe you're the genius that gives him that chance now, and he turns things around and he does wake up and he's a different guy. That's my whole point. I'm not saying it's going to happen.

How often does that happen? Well, Belichick in Cleveland, right? Yeah. Yeah.

You're right. I mean, listen, Saban was in Washington, excuse me, Miami. Didn't last more than two years there.

I understand. Although I think Saban would have succeeded there if they had done what he wanted, which was go get Drew Brees and not Dante Culpepper. Maybe there's no Alabama job for him. Maybe he's a very successful coach in the NFL with Drew Brees as his quarterback, the way that Sean Payton was.

But guys, don't forget this. When Lane Kiffin was a Raiders head coach 17 years ago, he was like 32 years old. He's 49 years old now. He hasn't been the head coach at USC since 2013. That's 11 years ago.

He was 38. My whole point is maybe he's a different guy. Maybe.

I may be wrong. But that's exactly what I'm saying is it's easy to sell yourself, to convince yourself that he's the guy to come in because of the fact you're desperate. You are desperate to score points in a league where you have to score points to survive.

That's your food. Not the most pleasant thought, but that's unfortunately the way it is. There you have it.

So I threw out the name. I don't think it's going to be the guy. I don't think he's going to get the opportunity.

He may not want to leave. Look, here's a difference also, Art. Look how much college coaches make today anyway, right? Look at the salary a college football coach makes. It's on par with what an NFL coach makes. In fact, it's actually sometimes even more money in the college ranks than in the NFL ranks.

Lane Kiffin's making about $9 million a year right now at Ole Miss. So why would you leave that? There's a bit more job security in college. Maybe you enjoy the recruiting. Maybe you enjoy the whole NIL game.

Maybe you enjoy all that. I don't know. Some guys like Dabo Sweeney don't. Jimbo Fisher still doesn't.

I don't know. I don't. Jimbo Fisher certainly didn't. Saban didn't.

Maybe that's one of the reasons why he decided to retire when he did, but some guys do. I'm just saying. I know it's crazy. All right, there is a game this afternoon by the way.

Could be ugly. Kansas City 10-1 hosting the Las Vegas Raiders. They're 2-9.

We're going to start taking a look at that big matchup coming up. It's Black Friday. Day after Thanksgiving. 844204. Rich 844204.

I think that means we're done for the year. I love this bunny. He's the hardest working helper the North Pole has ever seen and he wants all your gifts to have the power of the number one longest lasting AA battery.

So this holiday season, stock up on Santa's and the elves favorite battery Energizer Ultimate Lithium. We are back on the Rich Eizen show on a Friday. Dan Schwartzman in for Rich.

844204 Rich. That's 8442047424 if you're just tuning in. Big news today, no surprise Bears head coach Matt Emberfluss has been fired. It's the Bears. After yesterday's clock management debacle in that 23-20 Thanksgiving game loss to the Detroit Lions, who by the way have won 10th straight tying a franchise record.

That was set back in 1934, 90 years ago and they're now 11-1 playing great football. Maybe it's a battle of juggernauts in that NFC Championship game. Could it be the Lions and the Eagles a chance to go play the possible Kansas City Chiefs? Potentially yes. We've been talking about the now open Bears job.

Is it the best job out there for current openings that we know of? The Jets, Saints will be open. Now the Bears, Giants will probably be open.

Potentially Jacksonville as well. With Caleb Williams and the young stars on offense, is that the best job for a guy like Ben Johnson who's going to be the hottest name once again in the head coaching search hire cycle the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator. I also mentioned the name Lane Kiffin. I know that you know some of you are like oh my god never again would I hire Lane Kiffin. I get it but he runs offenses since heading to Alabama to be Nick Saban's OC that are innovative, score a ton of points and very modern and emphasize throwing the football which people like today. It's a passing league. It's an offensive-minded league now. So does he get another opportunity despite the failures at USC, Raiders, Tennessee. There's no year you know three strikes and you're out policy when you're a coach in the NFL or college football if people think you have that opportunity to win them games.

So that's my point when it comes to him. But we mentioned the Raiders and they're two and nine. They're probably the worst team in football. They have cool music and cool uniforms. Nice helmets, nice logo, great loyal fan base. More so in Oakland than ever in Vegas. I am wearing my Lyle Alsado jersey today. Loved it. Loved how he long loved Lyle Alsado.

Lyle Alsado yeah. You're a great player. And my prediction we're gonna beat the Chiefs today.

Well right there I know you're a fraud because you said we're gonna beat the Chiefs today. So you're obviously speaking from the heart not the head. Oh yeah. Art. Always from the heart.

Always. But Art you know we're members of the media. You're not supposed to say we.

I'm not a member of the media. You don't have your own Martinez jersey that's actually yours. You did have a linebacker named Martinez a few years back right? Yes and I have his jersey yes. Blake Martinez right?

Blake yeah. Now you have the jersey and you're like haha look it says Martinez yuck yuck yuck yuck yuck right? I know you probably did that. Oh yeah. I get it.

Oh yeah 54. I got a buddy at work last day Milliner he had a D Milliner Jets jersey and you can just say it's mine because D Milliner stunk. My whole point is look you said we and you're just speaking from the heart when you think that you have a shot to beat Kansas City. At this point you don't want to beat Kansas City. Keep losing games. The head says yes.

The heart says win. Exactly. Now here's the problem for the Raiders and this is why they're a terrible organization akin to the Jets. It's because last year you know they allowed here's what happened they fired the head coach Antonio Pierce is what the interim head coach I guess at first?

Yes. Surprising people there. The guy had really no experience. Look what happened at Arizona State when he was part of Herman Edwards's staff a lot of you know stuff that was not exactly on the up and up and he was part of all that right?

They all got in trouble there in Arizona State. That was not a successful tenure for Herm Edwards. So my point is the players all loved Antonio Pierce so what happens?

Mark Davis hires him to be the full-time head coach which was just a dumb idea and now you're seeing it and listen to Antonio Pierce and maybe this is the way that he looks to motivate his players. It's quite the head scratcher but here he is when he talks about this matchup against Kansas City. Let's call it spade to spade right? The best team in football against the worst team in football. Let's change the narrative right? Let's go out there and make it a dog fight. Let's make it ugly. Let's make it scrappy.

It's Black Friday. Let's create a little chaos. Let's get back to you know greater football and have some fun and some personality.

Let it loose. He's calling his team the worst team in football. There's two problems I have with that right? Yeah. One is he's calling his team the worst team in football.

Why would you? Is that the way to motivate? Hey guys you're so bad you're literally the worst team in football now go play better? Is that the motivational tactic?

I don't think that works. The best team in football against the worst team in football. Now he's accurate.

He's not exactly wrong. The only question with that comment is are the Chiefs really the best team in football? It's not whether the Bears are the worst team in football. You know the Raiders are the worst team in football. The question is are the Chiefs really the best team in football?

They just lost the Buffalo. The Raiders are close to the worst team in football. No I think they are the worst team.

No come on. I mean what I saw yesterday I mean that's got to be the worst team. Bears have literally doubled the number of wins for the Raiders this year.

Think about that. They have twice the number of wins. Are you going by statistics now?

Well they also should have been you know they could have been the Lions yesterday in Detroit if not for a head coach who doesn't know time management and a young wide receiver turned over the wrong shoulder and slowed down right? Just saying let's be honest. Hey taking a line from Antonio Pierce. Let's call a spade a spade right? They're the worst team in football. There you go. They're the worst team in football.

So the other problem I have is what he says there at the end of that quote Art. When he says let's get back to playing Raider football. Art I don't want to be mean here and I know you're a big Raiders fan and this might bring you to tears but you'll know this because you're a die-hard fan. When's the last time the Raiders really played Raider football? Uh 2021 when they made the playoffs. There you go.

There you go. They haven't played Raider football in a few years at least. To where people are like what is Raider football right now? So let me ask you this is a Raider fan because I don't know the answer right now. What is Raider football? Well I what I grew up with when they moved to Los Angeles when I was a teenager and they made the playoffs the first year and then they won the Super Bowl the second year. That's why I'm a fan.

I was 14 15 years old. They were big. They were burly and they they took no you know S word you know and and they played offense and they ran the football and then they beat you every every aspect of the game they beat you and they beat you up. Marcus Allen.

They'll poke your eye out. Lyle Elzato you know Howie Long. They're the ones that Lester Hayes scrum. With all the with all the stick them on his on his hands. Listen Art in the scrum they are the ones that will grab you twist whatever it is. Absolutely. Ted Hendricks.

Ted Hendricks. That's Raider football and that's what they are known for but when Antonio Pierce says let's get back to Raider football I don't know what that is anymore and not only that. I just go out there and make it a dog fight. Let's make it ugly. Let's make it scrappies.

Black Friday. Let's create a little chaos. Let's get back to you know Raider football and have some fun. It's a personality. Let it loose. But here's the other problem. Let it loose.

But here's the other issue here. We're just talking about the NFL is today. Art the NFL's a scoring league right? It's a high-powered offensive league. Raider football's not high-powered offense. Maybe it's time not to want to go back to Raider football. You could be aggressive. You could be mean. You could hit a guy late. Whatever it might be but that's not the way to win football games today.

It's not. Like the Ravens defense is pretty good but they win games because a guy named Lamar Jackson could win his third MVP and a guy named Derek Henry's could rush for 2,000 yards for a second you know for a second time in his career. So even Baltimore Ravens football which kind of resembled that old Raiders football right? What's Ravens football today? Scoring points with Lamar Jackson and Derek Henry.

So do you want to go back to Raider football? Your identity of being that tough grizzled team. One thing we didn't mention there was a quarterback. We didn't really mention a wide receiver when you went back in time art with a big smile on your face talking about the good old days. Was it an offensive-minded team that won them those games or was it the smash mouth defense that intimidated teams and when you ran that ball into a pile they made sure you felt it?

It was both. I mean Jim Plunkett on the offense was the quarterback and then Marcus Allen. You had Bo Jackson.

I mean geez. I mean both sides of the football were awesome. Yeah but you're going back to Jim Plunkett. Derek Carr had some moments right? I mean Derek Carr I think was... Oh yeah before he broke his leg. Yeah he was good. He was I think was MVP of the league wasn't he?

Close to it. Had some pretty good seasons. Not great but very good. Not top tier upper echelon but very good. Pro Bowl quarterback. It wasn't good enough but it was.

I just think Bears football today should not be the old Bears football as Antonio Pierce looked at but is Kansas City really the best team even in the AFC right now? I want to get to that as we're going to be hitting up hour number three of the Rich Eisen Show. Two hours down. Quick couple hours here obviously the news of the Bears firing their head coach. Dan Schwartzman in for Rich on this Black Friday. It's the Rich Eisen Show. Hey it's Rich Eisen here.
