It happens we're doing that at home. Earlier on the show, host of the Glory Days podcast, Johnny Manziel. Coming up, Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh, Army head coach Jeff Monken, actor Alexander Ludwig, plus latest news and more. And now, it's Rich Eisen.

Yes, that's correct. Our number two, the Rich Eisen Show is on the air right here on the Roku Sports Channel. Phone lines are lit. We'll take your phone calls.

Don't you dare move. But we begin our number two with a man who I can't I mean in terms of people on the planet who have provided me with so much joy. This man's top five. And it's not just because in my in my in my notebook that I have right here on my desk. It is autographed by him and his dad, Jack. OK, right here.

It's on my desk every single day. But he's kind enough to join us now after his team goes to seven and three. I guess if I'm excited, coach, do I go like this? Do I just go up here and I pull down?

What do I do, Jim Harbaugh? Like this? So what I do? Grab it, pull it down.

Yeah. That's what I'm doing right now. I'm grabbing and pulling it down.

I'm seeing it on my screen. How are you doing, coach? Good to see you, Jim. How are you? Hey, doing good. Thank you. Right back at you. You provide the I mean, so much good, so much good and so many people. Nothing but respect, Rich.

Yeah. Right back at you, man. Last time I saw you, your lovely wife, your family out there at the Rose Bowl, helping me raise money for for St. Jude. You know, I saw what you were doing to Justin Herbert, like pounding on his on his shoulder pads and everything like that. I'm like, you know, I've been there.

That was such a great day at the Rose Bowl. Right. Right. You are you are I mean, it's it's legendary what you what you've done. And thanks for including us.

Oh, come on, man. Your lovely family. That was that was a signature day. That was that was so much fun.

I had my niece was there and my brother in law ever had a ball. And it was the first time you'd been back at the Rose Bowl since you quarterbacked there. Right, Jim?

Is that right? Well, since that since coaching in the Rose Bowl, coaching the Rose Bowl. Right, obviously. But that would that day was the first time you were there since you played in the Rose Bowl. Right. When you coached in the Rose Bowl. Yeah. Coaching at the Rose Bowl was the first time I was back there.

No, no, I don't know. As a matter of fact, I went to a couple of games. I went to Michigan, Michigan, USC Rose Bowl, and I went to the Texas. Okay. Oh, the man USC Rose Bowl.

Okay. Well, that was a that's as classic as a Super Bowl. We're going to the Super Bowl, Dallas and the Bills Super Bowl. It's an iconic place, isn't it?

Who's got better atmospheres in the Rose Bowl? So it looks like you're just having a blast, Jim. It really is look like you're having a blast through the first 10 games in the first 10 months, pretty much of your tenure here in L.A. Yeah. I mean, just just just was so lucky.

Came into a to an established culture here. Just a mindset of winning and the players, everybody in the organization, just attacking, doing every anything and everything in their power to to help us be successful. Just guys that guys I mean, we got we got a number of guys that are that do their job and do it really well and consistently. We got a number of guys that I mean, they're so good that they can they can make up for coaching mistakes. They can make up for others mistakes. There's guys that love football, guys that must win, guys that hate to lose, guys that they're not afraid to work.

I could I could go on and on. I mean, there's just so many virtues, guys that I mean, I've never been around that love football as much as as Derwin James or James perfectionist and talent like Justin Herbert. It's it's been it's been really incredible. And and nobody that's given any grief or caused any distraction, we're just you know, let's get that working coach.

That's the first conversation I had with Derwin James when I took the jobs. It goes, you ready to get that working coach? I go, yeah, I'm ready. Let's let's go. Let's have at it.

It's it's been that way weekly, daily, weekly, monthly since taking the job. You know, and I know you don't like talking about yourself. I've been around you a long time. You don't like doing that. And I remember, again, all those postgame press conference or postgame moments on the field when, you know, after Michigan wins, you'd always bring players over and you're like, talk to them and you and you'd leave. So I understand that. But everybody's just been talking about your coaching, you know, again, in a new spot and flipping things around from a record one year to another one from losing to winning. So what what is your formula or your secret sauce, Jim, where where so many people are watching you do it again in Los Angeles?

So what what what is that when you join a new spot that you can? Well, first of all, I don't I don't throw around things loosely when I say I love these guys. I mean, my two great loves are my family at home and my family here at work. And, you know, I guess I guess where you when you when you hit me with something like that. And I go back to my college days of playing for Bo Schembechler and Gary Moller, too, who was the defensive coordinator. He had this he had this he had this thing. So like when people are telling you nice things, rich and you know, sometimes he's even comes from from friends or family or could be, you know, media, media people, just anybody, you know, like he said. But would say and Gary would say, kick him in the shin, kick him in the shoes.

And I know, you know, Gary Moller and Bo Schembechler. But, yeah, that's that's always resonated. You know, we got we got we got to get a long road to home.

You know, rich in a big game this week. And, you know, all we can do is, you know, do our best. Try to get better and, you know, treat each other as we want to be treated and never give up. And that says it really. And that doesn't come from me. That's my try to I try to do that. That's why I try to, you know, conduct, you know, myself as a as when I was a player and a coach. But that comes from Mark Herbert, father of Justin Herbert. Justin shared that with the team this past week. That was the advice that his dad gave to the people we football team that he was coaching that Justin was on. I just, you know, just so sick.

It's so tight. It said so well that, you know, just I couldn't wait to go, you know, call my kids and give them that message. And, you know, in the hopes that they turn out, you know, as good as Justin.

Well, I mean, you know, I spoke to Scott Matlock here. Do your best. No, no. Do your best.

Right. But get better. Treat others as you would want to be treated.

Never give up. And that's and that's been your philosophy, you know, walking in there. And I guess, again, you're just being yourself and the guys really respond to it. I mean, we had Scott Matlock here in studio and he's talking about how he would run through a brick wall for you. And, you know, I noticed again when you were given that speech coming off of a signature win, as you called the one against the the Bengals, Jim.

You know, the first person you did hug it out with was Derwin James standing right there. You know, and Justin Herbert, you know, clearly they're they're buying everything that that you're selling. And it's just the opposite, though.

It's completely the reverse of what you're saying. I'm buying what they're doing, what you know, what they're what they're doing, because it's more what they're doing than what they're saying. You know, it's it's like any of us. It's what we do speak so loudly. It doesn't matter what we say.

I can't even hear what you're saying. So from day one, this coach is taking on the personality of this organization. And these players and, you know, I'm just hit with their virtue with numbing repetition every day.

I have been the one that has drawn a long straw here and is drinking the Kool-Aid that, you know, that those guys that you've mentioned and 53 others put on display every day. And obviously this week is is in our world, the media world focused on you and your brother. And again, you know, you don't like talking about yourself and your family is going to be right out there. What what what is it like to coach in a game and look across the way and see and see John? Jim, I mean, it's it's. Respect, it's love, and nobody could have a better brother than than I do.

I mean, nobody has it better than I have a brother like John Harbaugh. He is he's the toughest competitor right now and he just really pulls it out of you watching the tape of the Ravens team. You know, I've followed closely for years, you know, but really, really diving into it, you know, down after down, play after play. I mean, the toughness, the physicality, you know, the execution, it's just so tight. Everything is just, you know, so tight with this football team and you see them, you know, to make the improvements that they make. You know, the secondary, the the the pass rush, the way they split the double team. You know, it's just it's just one one technique after another. And you just you see how well coached they are. I mean, it's it's it's off the charts and the talent that they have. You know, that's Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson.

Those two are like the, you know, nobody more competitive or or more talented than those two two players. And then, you know, down throughout the roster, it's you know, it's kind of what we're driving for. You know, one of the watch the Ravens or what's that watch our team. We know we hope to be looking in the mirror.

That's that's how much respect we have for the Baltimore Ravens in a couple of minutes. I have left with you, Jim Harbaugh. Scott Matlock came in here and told me a couple of things I want to confirm with you. He said that you get in the cold tub with your you're fully clothed with some of the players.

Is that true? Have you done that, Jim? Well, I take off my shoes, OK, and my socks. And I also take my belt out off and I take out whatever's in my pockets. But yeah, you know, the no sense getting another pair of khakis.

They got to get washed anyway. So he also said that you will not let anybody on the team high five Justin Herbert with with their right hand. Is that true, Jim? Oh, that's that's that's factual. That's factual.

Yes, I you know, I I go to high five him sometimes, too. I just you know, I just want to pull it back. You know, that's a those fingers at hand that I just don't want to. Yeah, that's I don't know. Is that dumb? That is that? No, no. It's called covering all your bases, Jim.

That's what it's called. You're left. Left hand high fives are fine. Just don't mess with. There's nobody that enjoys the high five or respects the high five or gets it. It's more enjoyment out of giving or getting a high five than I think I do. But yeah, just when it's just that I feel like we do it the left hand, let's go with the left.

And is it true you say he's the last quarterback you want to coach in your career? God willing and the creep don't rise. It's great to see you, Jim. I know I know you're you're running to the next thing, as always. Send my best.

Oh, it's a pleasure. Go blue. Go blue. Do you do you talk to both shades, Rich? What do you say?

Both shades of blue. It's good. Have you talked to Sharon lately?

Jim, do you talk to her? Yeah, I love Coach Moore. And he's he's he's doing exactly what he should be doing. You know, just all you can do is do the best that you can get better.

Treat others as you would want to be treated and never give up. And he's he's attacking it with the enthusiasm unknown to mankind. We all know. OK, so powder blue and go blue, all the blue and enjoy the the week and seeing your whole family.

I imagine on Monday. Yeah. Thank you. Thank you.

Yeah. That's your friend Sarah. Susie says it sends her best to you, too.

Well, Susie, me and Sarah say hello. You got it. That's Jim Harbaugh, everybody getting set for the Harbaugh, as it's being called on Monday Night Football, just across the street. Our neighbor, Jim Harbaugh, right here on the Rich Eisen Show.

Awesome. Yeah, we're just we're just down the road. We got to go over there. We also saw Jim at the Tom Brady roast, Rich. Oh, that's right. That's right.

We did. The Tom Brady roast. That was a blast for sure.

Oh, my gosh. Also, Jim was so nice to Cage at the at the run, Rich, run. That was great because your son kept running again and he was standing there.

It's like, look who's back. Cage, I think, ran out like five or six times. Jim was very nice. Are you still there, Jim?

Just pop him back on real quick. Jim, you still. Cage was my guy.

The insurance that he has. I mean, he must have he must have run that race. He must have run that 40 yard dash 28, 30 times. And you were the best. You stayed there for every kid announcing them. And you're like, he needs no introduction. It's Cage. All right. Have a great day. There you go. That's Jim Harbaugh.

Very, very funny. He needs no introduction. Hey, I don't know how he got back here so fast. He won't talk about himself. He's not going to say, well, my philosophy, I do this with the guys.

Because I just don't think he he's got it written down. He just knows how to talk to guys and players. And he knows how to connect with them. He's a former player himself. He's a son of a coach. He's got the track record.

Right. And all he's got to do is let these guys. See that he's one of them, but also set up a situation of accountability. That's that's always the the fine line. If you're going to be hopping in a cold tub with guys, you know, suddenly they think you're best friends.

But what happens if they screw it up? On Sunday, Monday, Thursday, I think, too, as obviously as a football fan and a fan of high level quarterback play, seeing Justin Herbert unlocked and really meeting his potential that we all thought when he was drafted. That's been really fun to watch the last month, month, month or so. The first six weeks of the season, everyone's wondering where's the offense going to come from.

Yeah. And now, you know, I had an overreaction topic that like, you know, Harbaugh's kind of blown it with him right now so far and not in the last month. He's looked awesome. Well, Quentin Johnston last year, you know, had a tough rookie season and. And he's now he's he's beastly. And and then there's the Will Disley is suddenly.

But and then there's Lydidi McConaughey. Man. Patriots passed on them.

Frustrating. Let's take a break. Make sure we're on time for our next.

That's right. That guy. Let's make sure we're on time for our next guest, because I'm sure he will be as well. The head coach of Army strikes me as somebody who's timely. You're probably he's a strong and late Jeff Monken of the undefeated Army football team.

Who's got it better than me?

Nobody. Jim Harbaugh's on the Rich Eisen Show, aren't you? You there, Jim?

I'm here, Rich. Happy birthday. Monday. 50th. Big 5-0. Wow, awesome.

Big 5-0. I was supposed to be at your surprise party last Saturday night. I heard that story, but you got caught up with being a family man, which is... Yeah, I got my daughter's graduation party was that Saturday night. Her graduation was Thursday.

The party was Saturday. Are you going to have more honorary captains? Are you still doing that?

Yeah, we're still doing that. We're going to honor the 69 team. Okay, so that means Deardorff comes back? Deardorff should be back. He'll be in the radio booth, so okay.

We had some some terrific folk from Fort Irwin, the National Training Center, and the show ended with all of those who were were there with us. There was a Master Sergeant Nice was his name. I asked him if there was a Master Sergeant Naughty. At any rate, Sergeant Nice said, Go Army, Beat Navy.

That's how he ended the show. But there's a couple of games for undefeated Army before that, including one huge one this coming weekend in Yankee Stadium against Notre Dame. The head coach of Army football, Jeff Monken, joins us now here on the Rich Eisen Show. Coach Monken, how are you, sir? I'm great.

Thanks a lot. Are you? I mean, this is a this is a big one, obviously. How are you approaching this here football game with your charges, sir? I guess kind of like we approach all the rest of them, just trying to do our very best to prepare ourselves to to have our guys execute their fundamentals, their assignments and hang on to the ball and and try to try to not make mistakes that are going to give them any chances to to capitalize.

And when you play a really great team like Notre Dame, you don't have to play perfect, but you got to play really well. And and so just preparing our guys to do that. And do your guys talk about college football playoff possibilities? Do do they do they actually openly discuss it? Do you openly discuss it with your ball?

I don't think it's I don't know. That's productive to talk about that right now. There's a lot of football to be played before all those decisions are made. I'm I'm certain that our guys are influenced like everybody else, their friends, their family, social media.

They got a phone, so they read a lot of stuff about that. But we don't talk about it. It really isn't important right now. Well, I mean, obviously that's a maybe a media driven conversation and that's that's my world in which I reside. I think it would be phenomenal, absolutely phenomenal that in this new day and age of 12 teams making college football playoffs, if one of them was an old school back in the day type of team like Army football, that would be phenomenal. Straight up. I agree. I think it'd be phenomenal as well. And we're going to have to do something about it.

That's that's that's what I'm saying. And it does appear that that, you know, it would be a great way to remind everybody what what is successful in this world with NIL and portals and things of that nature. If a program like yours makes it and and and and shows up in a college football playoff game coach, to be honest.

It would be great. But, you know, I'm so proud of our guys. The season that they've they've put together here and the professor, the professionalism that they've approached every week with and the maturity that they've had.

Really, it's hard. It's hard to it's hard to go undefeated and it's hard to put successes behind you. You know, we all want to pat ourselves on the back and and talk about what's been done. But our guys have done a great job of really looking forward and and looking at what we need to accomplish.

And that's that's really the next game. And and all year it's been like that. We've got a great senior class. We've got really strong leaders within the unit. And I think that's important to have a very successful team. And so, you know, people aren't surprised to hear that we've got good leadership. But there are there are all teams, every team and each team's different. And sometimes there's just those teams and those special leaders that come along. And and that's that that happens here, too.

And we really got some good leaders. And they've they've done a great job of putting the past in the past and looking forward to the next game. So, Coach, this is obviously not your only stop of your your illustrious coaching career. So can you put in perspective the difference it requires in a player to play for Army than other places that you've been and what they do throughout the week, throughout the year that that places potentially other things on their plate that other collegiate football players don't have? Certainly the experience here is unique. And I think every college football player's journey and experience at their respective school is different. And everybody that plays it at each of the universities we see on Saturday afternoons, their experiences, guys on the same team don't don't go through the same things every day. They don't have the same major, the same academic regimen.

And and that's that's certainly the case here. But what our guys do is very unique. Just the the requirements academically there. We don't ever have a guy that gets to his senior year and he's got all of his credits done and he takes six hours because that's you know, that's all he needs to graduate. Our guys are taking a full load of classes every semester, which is anywhere between 15 and 22 hours a semester. They've got military requirements. They're all part of a company within the United States Corps of Cadets. And so they've got obligations to serve their company and and duties that they that they are obligated to every day. And that's part of the leadership experience as part of the the the development of each of these guys as leaders and future Army officers. So along with that, they're they're, you know, FBS football players and we demand a lot of our guys. Our our hours here aren't any different in our building than a typical FBS football player meetings and workouts and practice and film and all those things. So our guys do a great job of handling it. They've got a real balancing act on their hands.

Probably not enough hours in the day to to do everything that they they have to do, but they they managed to get it done. And that makes me particularly proud to see them having the success that they are because of all that they they they are responsible for every day. And what about you? What do you like coaching about an army that's different from other stops or requires whatever a certain difference in you, Coach Monken? I love coaching and I love football. I was a coach's kid. My dad was my high school coach. And so I come from a coaching family. I never wanted to do anything else.

So people, I think, kind of say off the cuff that, you know, how you doing? I'm living the dream. I'm actually living my dream. I love coaching and I love this sport and what it teaches people. And but I love coaching an army. These are incredible young men and women here. And, you know, we are we are in a society that that really encourages people to look out for themselves, to to maybe, you know, step on somebody else's toes if it means you're going to succeed. And and that that that's fed to our players and our students here their whole lives through social media and and and and other ways to give that message to them.

But the world has an 18 year head start on on all the students that come here. But over the course of the four years that they're here, the development that happens for them as leaders and and to come from a society that that tells them they should that tells these young men and women that they should look out for themselves. Yet they pledge a commitment to serve our nation and serve people that that they'll never meet a constitution that they didn't write and a flag that that represents all of us, not just those that serve. I mean, it's it's it's humbling to be around servant leaders like like they are and and and the people that are here to to train, educate, train and inspire them to to become leaders of character in our army. So one of the reasons I wanted to come here was that I knew my influence as a leader would extend well beyond our locker room and that our players would lead their soldiers the same way that they're taught here. So it's a tremendous sense of responsibility.

And I never served in the army or in the military, but in my own way, this is my opportunity to serve. And it's just an honor and a privilege to do that and to be in an incredible institution like West Point. And you had just mentioned your family being a coaching family. Your cousin, Todd, is the offensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens, correct? Jeff, he he is a remarkable football coach and doing a great job. So he's he's a great source of pride for our family. We're all excited for him and proud of him. So have you have you delivered any Bryson Daley plays for him to say Lamar should do this?

Have you done that? Hey, let me tell you that guy, he's got a great quarterback. He's coaching. And well, you have one, too. Now you've got one. We do. You know, we do. Bryce Bryce is a special guy.

And, you know, our our philosophies, at least for now, are pretty, pretty different. But we do what we need to do here to win. And he's doing what he needs to do to win it at Baltimore. So excited for him.

And I hope their success will continue. I would love that. Just one time, if you ever do that. Hey, Todd, this is what I do with my quarterback. OK, so maybe you should do that with Lamar.

Let me give you two cents. That'll be fun. He does a good job running his quarterback that he does. I do enjoy watching that. Not everybody does that in that league, but he's got he's got a talented guy. So he does a good job of drawing up some design runs for his quarterback. What do you say to people who think that an offense like that can't win a championship? Jeff, I think I think there's a lot of ways to win championships. There's not you know, it's not a it's not a cookie cutter blueprint. I think the personality of the team, the style of the coach, the players that that we can get in our respective programs or organizations.

I think all those things matter. So it's a lot of ways to get it done. Well, not to drag you into my level of things. I'm a red blooded American, and I think everybody can can get around, get behind rooting for Army football, especially Michigan Wolverine fans who hate the movie Rudy. Let me tell you, we are all Army fans in the Michigan Wolverine family this weekend.

I'll tell you that. Every American every American should be an Army fan where America is. And so you can recruit you can root root for all your your your home state teams and your your your blue blood programs.

But everybody can everybody can cheer for Army. Do we know if Aaron Judge is going to be there? Do we know if we're going to get any Yankees there this weekend?

I haven't I haven't got a I haven't gotten a celebrity list yet. OK, I imagine they'll they'll let me know if anybody is going to be kind of hanging around. I'm excited to I'm excited to get down there to Yankee Stadium. What a what an iconic venue and and a privilege for us to be able to play there. I know our players are excited.

I'm certain that's pretty cool. Are you a Yankee fan, coach? I am. I'm a converted Yankee fan. I'm a Cubs fan. I grew up a Cubs fan. I'm still a Cubs fan. But John Mosley, who's the director of football down there at at the Yankees, who happens to be a Notre Dame grad. I know he's become a good friend and those guys take good care of me and my family and I get a chance to go down to a game every year.

And so we've become we've become Yankee fans being local. Maybe Army could play in Wrigley Field one day. Maybe you could do that. Maybe that would be great. Listen, coach, I really appreciate the time.

My last one for you is this. And again, I understand Army puts Army on the back and the actual players names right there on the front. I understand that.

That's my winded long winded setup to ask you this. What would you tell the college football playoff committee about putting Army in? Should you navigate this season and go undefeated, beating Notre Dame and Yankee Stadium, so on and so forth? I understand it's a it's it's a marathon.

I just sprinted here. But what would you what's your message to the college football playoff committee? Should they have this decision in front of them one day? Coach? All the folks on that committee were chosen, selected for their expertise and and they're going to make the best decisions for college football. And and so I think we just let our play and and and our people kind of be the representation of who we are as a team. We get we got a great team. You know, I don't I never I never promote our team as being the most talented team. And we're not void of talent. But there's very few times we play where, as Marcus Freeman said in his press conference, that if you had put a tape measure to our team and a 40 yard dash and athleticism, we probably aren't going to win any track meets.

But that's not what it's about. You don't have to have the most talented players to win. You got to have the best team to win. And I think we've got a really good team. And because of what we do offensively, the uniqueness of it, it's an equalizer. And and we feel confident that we can play with anybody in the country. And I guess that that's just a culture and whether the whether the playoff committee believes that or not, you know, that's that's for them to decide. But we certainly have that confidence and just a great bunch of tough guys. And we'd be fun to watch.

I know that. Well, best of luck putting that decision in front of them, coach. And best of luck in Yankee Stadium against Notre Dame. I'll be watching. Appreciate the opportunity.

Be Navy. There you go. That's right. Again, I heard that this weekend from a bunch of folks from Fort Irwin coming on our show. So I heard that. Well, that's good.

I think they're they're cheering for the right team. I heard you talk about that. That sergeant major, that sergeant nice that said that's right. He did.

He did. Right. Train. It's the United States Army. Thanks again, coach. Appreciate it. You got to be Navy Army head football coach Jeff Monken here on The Rich Eisen Show.

That's awesome. The one team I'll gladly give up America's team for. Right there.

Could you again? The issue is, if Boise State goes undefeated for everything that I'm reading, they would have pole position being a Mountain West team. And maybe the Heisman Trophy winner on their team. Right. Right.

No, I'm not saying that they wouldn't be deserving. Again, everything I'm reading is that it's not as simple as just Army winning the rest of its games. The Army Navy game that we once upon a time thought would be decisive.

That game's being played after the field of 12 is set. Right. So. Listen, what would it be like if a 12th seeded undefeated Army football team strolls into Alabama, Alabama, Ohio State?

Yeah. Just to name a couple. Oregon, if Ohio State beats Oregon, Penn State. Come on.

SEC Big Ten Blue Bloods versus something straight out of the halcyon college football days of 30s, 40s, 50s. Out of the movies, too. I mean, that's a David Goliath. Oh, my gosh.

So. Let's say Army plays Ohio State. And, oh, Army's playing Notre Dame this week. That's my coach right there.

He's talking my language. We're full Star Spangled Banner. We're fully back in Ohio State. Oh, my God. I'm on the Jeff Monken fan club for life. I mean, we're back in them anyway, but we're really back.

I would back that play. Phone calls when we come back. 844-204-rich number to dial here on The Rich Eisen Show.

Not bring that under the bus by the bus just right now. See, he didn't even show his face. He's I was willing to wear this hat. He had it made. Well, he told me that the hat that he made up had the final score. No, he had the hat on there. It was a hat. I don't know what that the hat is supposed to read following. I am going to listen to hear this.

Yes. Hail to the victors valiant. Hail to the conquering heroes. Hail, hail to Michigan.

The lead ders and bangs. Wow. That is for you. Wow. I honestly did not want me to do that. I honestly can't have thought of anything else that you would do. That would make me think that you would not have to follow through on your end of the wager, which is where I should have gone to Michigan hat on the faunted field of Notre Dame with touchdown Jesus behind you. But do I let him out of that end of the bet now?

That was pretty epic, actually. And he nailed all the words. He grew up in the state of Michigan. He should know them.

He should know them. I mean, that was like 40 years ago. I had to look them up to make sure I was saying it correctly for you. Also, I'm getting visions of like Jerome practicing before he came out here. Yeah, it sounded rehearsed. That was great. That took a lot out of me. Great job, Jerome. You know that. That was awesome. It was one hour ago when we found out Joe Douglas, general manager of the Jets, being fired, being put out of his misery, or being done a favor, however you want to put it, by being bounced in the middle of the season, just like the coach that he was part of the process of hiring when Robert Stolle came over from the Niners. There was tons of optimism when they drafted Zach Wilson, and then no optimism, and then optimism when they acquired Aaron Rodgers, and then no optimism, and then optimism when Rodgers came back, and now three and eight, optimism is dead again. They put out a statement now.

I'm curious to know what they say. Woody Johnson, today I informed Joe Douglas he will no longer serve as GM of the New York Jets. I want to thank Joe for his commitment. Oh, Phil Savage, who has spent many years in front offices. I think he also is in charge of the Senior Bowl for a long time. He is a respected individual, will be the GM for the remainder of the season, will begin a new process to identify a new GM immediately, okay?

I still don't get it. Other than the fact that he wants to get a jump on finding a new GM, we'll find out. Jets hitting the reset button again. I think you nailed it with Woody potentially taking a position in the administration and leaving the country. You've got to get going on this.

Certainly if you can start, I guess, filling out your list, and there's a rule you must follow, the Rooney rule you must follow, and just making sure you go through this process faster, I don't know, because as you know, the league is slowing this process down, and I don't know if that's what Woody wants. Let's go to the phone lines here. Fitz and Dallas, you're on the Rich Eisen Show.

What's up, Fitz? Hey, now. Hey, now. Okay.

Hank Kinsley. I guess actually the tone should be more like, hey, now. Morale and Dallas. Don't dream it's over? That's sort of like crowded house, hey, now? That's the way it works? Okay.

You can do that? Very good. Okay. Well, I don't know if anybody caught the Manning cast last night. I mean, I've really gotten into it, especially this year.

Okay. Belichick has really been the cherry on top, and I know everybody says you're never going to get Bill, but to see, he was kind of coaching him up last night, just very brief, you know, but it was actually refreshing to see, and it's like, oh, God, Jerry, please, just give up the reins for a minute and let Bill take over for a couple of years, but I just don't know if that's ever going to happen. I think it makes sense, Fitz. Again, the reason why Parcells was hired back in the day is because of the churn that was going on and the lack of success that had become the brand, you know, and had become the general malaise that had set over the franchise from the Gailey Campo years, and I don't know if that's a similar environment that's happening now that would bring about a Parcells-Belicheck marriage. I don't know, and thanks to the cat, Fitz. Yeah, but if you guys haven't watched the Manning cast, you got a DVR, go back. TJ, especially you, brother, you might get a kick out of it, so. Because he was basically making it sound like what he would have been doing in real time with the Cowboys?

Absolutely. And it was the one week I didn't watch it. I mean, he was talking about both sides of the ball, defense, offenses, really, really interesting, so highly recommend if you guys have a DVR. Gentlemen, if I don't speak to you, I hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving, happy holidays. Thanks, man.

Talk to you soon. Yeah, one thing I did here, too, is that Bill was kind of subtly praising some of the recent Cowboys drafts, almost like, you know, just kind of being nice. Well, again, Bill is, last year we all know Bill leaving the Patriots organization, and Kraft using the word fired when he appeared on a podcast recently, which is not part of the new way of doing things where you're mutually parting ways. But all of that said, you know, the Falcons kicked the tires a couple times, and that was about it.

This time around, Bill will have a choice. I firmly believe it, that there will be some organizations that thought they were doing the right thing with their coaches and their direction with their coaches, and it did not work out, and it has completely fallen apart. Jacksonville and Dallas leap to mind. You could say the Jets as well, but Bill and the Jets, I don't want to keep repeating myself. That's just not going to happen. As long as Woody Johnson owns a team, it's just not going to happen. Like, you want to talk about what he says on the Manning cast is as something to indicate his thought processes. He takes a shot at Woody Johnson every time he can.

What do you call it? After firing solid, he said, ready, fire, aim. That's what he said on the Manning cast. That's not happening. But, you know, would Brady want Belichick there? That's the way it works in Vegas. Name me another team that might be considering this idea.

Chicago. I think it would be nuts for Cleveland to fire Kevin Stefanski. No matter what, Mike Vrabel's now got an earbud in his ear during games now. I think that would be nuts, and that would be somebody, if I'm the Jets, I'd be all over him in two seconds flat. Because I think he'd be great with the New York media, and I think he'd want an offensive-minded head coach. That's what you want.

And he's a two-time coach of the year. Giants? I don't think they're making a move, bud. Okay. I don't think they're going to make a move. Well, Saints obviously have an opening. Right.

But that's what I'm saying. He's going to have his choice. He's going to have his choice, unlike last year. And Dallas may just sit here and go, you know, as much as Jerry, when he was saying that he regretted firing Chan Gailey when he did, that can't sit it very well with the Cowboys fans looking for a new direction. He's living in that past to inform his current decisions. That was 24 years, 22 years ago. Well, but that did lead to Parcells, where it's just like, hey, we can still work together about shopping the groceries for you, but we need your resume and level of credibility when it comes to what's going on around here.

It may be a perfect spot. And him in the money division, Belichick with the Dallas Cowboys, you take that when you T.J. We wouldn't like it. You want to go you want to go younger? I think outside the box, I'm not trying to be an ageist, but the way football seems to be going now, one of these younger hotshot OCs, it seems to be the norm, you know, from the McVeigh tree or this Ben Johnson tree. Offensive innovators think that might be the way to go right now.

But I don't know. I mean, some people say we need to revert back to Smash Mouth football, old school style. So I'm kind of torn. I don't know where this team should go. You draft the kid out of Boise State, bring in Belichick to bring in McDaniels for for for Dak and Seedy. Get yourself a tight end. We got it. We got we have to go.

Then go to work. Need to reshape that offensive line. And tell Bill, turn Micah into the L.T.

that you know he can be. There you go. And there's the other question now.

Do you pay Micah the contract that he's going to command or do you let him go? No, no, no, no, no. That's it. And do it now, because you just don't wait with that one either.

Just do it now before somebody else sets the market. You know this. I don't know. Maybe you bring Bill in and Bill will be like, this is what we're doing. And they'll be like, OK, I don't know. We all know. We all know that's not how this works.

Maybe. Well, if Bill comes in and he's like, let's do it. Just was chatting with Amy Trask in the back. She and Suzy Schuster are going to do what the football with Kevin Harlan, who, by the way, was in Detroit. He called Detroit and he called last night's game as well. I'll never be able to think of Kevin Harlan now without the video of him driving. And giggling the whole way down.

That's funny. Amy asked me, sets the number at six. Coaches being fired, coaching openings. You take the over the under. Oh, more. You take more? Yeah.

TJ? I'd say about eight. You think it'll be eight? You think it'll be a third of the national football? I'm telling you, every year, every year there's a couple we don't know.

Yeah. We didn't see Pete Carroll coming last year. Every year there's more. There's there's one or two.

Someone's going to shock us. I take the number on the head. Six. You know, Nick Pichai. Rich, this is price is right.

You can't just you have to. Well, I mean, so they set the line at five and a half. Cleveland, Cincinnati, Vegas. Cleveland shouldn't do it. Cincinnati shouldn't do it. New York, Green Bay, Chicago. You don't mean Tampa, Tampa.

If they fall off. No, I don't think that'll happen either. Well, we've been proven wrong on that time and time again. It does happen. Bill has a relationship with Jason Light in Tampa. Jeez.

But Bill, what Bill was going through last January, that ain't happened in this January. No, it's top of the list. I think so.

Isn't it amazing what a few months in media will do for you? What about San Francisco? Oh, stop it. Why do you keep on? Because 90 fans are sick of it. You keep Kyle shaming San Francisco. They've capped out.

They've got they've got as far as they're going to go. Right. Like, why? Why can't Kyle Shanahan be the new Andy Reid?

You just need a change of scenery to change it up. No one thought Andy Reid was ever going to get fired from Philadelphia. You think Shanahan's the issue this year or is just like they've just kind of fallen apart? It's not his fault. It's not his fault that I blew out his knee.

Both can be true. It's not his fault that McCaffrey suddenly had Achilles tendinitis. Looking back, they probably should have traded him to Pittsburgh. But they wish they had that back.

I don't know, man. He went and just started Juwan Jennings and gone to work there. Juwan Jennings is probably their best receiver. Well, he's kind of their only one right now with Deebo in and out. Deebo having pneumonia, Kittle having a groin one week, a hamstring the next. Bose has now got a, you know, a hip or an oblique. It's a weird year. It's a weird year. I don't think that's Shanahan's fault.

Get out of here. He would be he would be snapped up in two seconds, as would Stefanski. Although I did say the same thing about Vrabel.

I don't know. Everybody wanted these sunny dispositioned newfangled coordinator guys, and sometimes you just need somebody to take his foot and put it somewhere and break it off. And I think maybe Dan Campbell is going to be the guy who is leading that charge. Dan Campbell is probably coach of the year, right? I think he is. I would name him that. Although Tomlin's got to be a close second.

Yeah. Alexander Ludwig coming up hour three. Hey, it's Rich Eisen here.

Join me and my compadre, Chris Brockman, every Monday on the Overreaction Monday podcast. Rich, Jameis has taken the browse to the playoffs. Dude, why can't they win seven, eight games to finish the year? Why not?

I'm not saying it's no, why not? But this is a definitive statement. That's clearly an overreaction and it's perfect fodder for a show like this one.

I appreciate you coming out of the gate hot. Come react or overreact with us. Overreaction Monday, wherever you listen. It's game over. Over, man.
